  • 2013 Volkswagen Groove Up! and Rock Up!

Volkswagen has introduced two Up! special editions for the fans of loud music. The two new special-edition versions are called Groove up! and Rock up!.

Both vehicles are based on the top-specification High up! model, each with a unique twist.

Firstly, the Groove Up!, which comes with a pumping Fender sound system, complete with 6 speakers, a subwoofer and a 300-Watt amplifier. Also standard is the Maps & More personal infotainment device, which along with touchscreen satellite navigation provides Bluetooth phone connectivity and music streaming, making it a cinch to synch with your tunes.

It is available as either 3-door or 5-door model. It also features heated front seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake with orange stitching, bespoke black seats with orange edging, dark-tinted glass from the B-pillar back, 16” Upsilon alloy wheels and black gloss door mirror caps.

Second is the Rock Up!, which is available only as a 3-door model. It boasts distinctive styling, including an anthracite stripe running the length of the bonnet, roof and tailgate and a full body kit, consisting of gloss black front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler.  The door mirror caps are also gloss black, apart from on vehicles ordered with Deep Black Pearl paintwork, in which case they are chrome.  Smart 16” Upsilon alloy wheels complete the look.

As with the Groove up!, standard equipment levels are high: air conditioning, heated front seats, the Maps & More infotainment system and a six-speaker audio system are all standard, as is remote central locking.

Optional equipment includes the award-winning City Emergency Braking system; a sensor pack that includes rear parking sensors, cruise control and a multifunction computer; and for the five-door Groove up!, a forward-folding front passenger seat to accommodate long loads.  The Groove up! is also available with a panoramic glass sunroof.

Both are powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-litre 75HP petrol engine, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.  This returns a combined fuel economy of 60.1 mpg while producing CO2 emissions of 108 g/km, meaning both models qualify for VED band B, which is free for the first year, and just £20 thereafter.

The Groove up! 3-door costs £11,640 RRP and the 5-door £12,015.  The Rock up! costs £12,980.

  • Debut For Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept In China

Volkswagen-CrossBlue-Coupe-THUMBVolkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept has just been presented to the public at 2013 Shanghai Auto Show showing it the future design cues intended for Volkswagen SUVs.

The five-seat CrossBlue Coupe is 4,889 mm long, 2,015 mm wide and just 1,679 mm high and for that reason offers distinctive and muscular look. When observed at the front one can see the radiator grille trim that consists of two polished aluminium struts and the VW logo in a 3D form which eventually extends into the headlights.

Moreover, under the C-pillars there can be seen ports for the fuel tank and battery. The fuel filler neck is positioned under a lid on the right side of the vehicle, while the cover for the electrical outlet is located symmetrically on the left side. It consists of one socket for charging the high-voltage battery and another for connecting electric devices. This basically means that the interface (16 A, 230 V) makes the CrossBlue Coupé a generator as well.

One can not go without paying attention to the tailpipes, which are designed in stainless steel, and in addition are integrated into a polished aluminium trim panel that runs horizontally along the back of the coupe.

One of the most important highlights here is the drivetrain that offers an extended range of possibilities. Here we are speaking about a plug-in hybrid system that comprises of a V6 turbocharged direct injection petrol engine and two electric motors (40 kW front and 85 kW rear).

When they work together they are capable of generating 415 hp (305 kW). The power is transmitted via a six-speed DSG gearbox. These horsepower make the car sprint form standstill to 100 km/h in only 5.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 146 mph.

Despite those inspiring results, the fuel economy is impressive with a combined cycle figure of 3.0 l/100 km, or 94.1 mpg. In hybrid mode, the CrossBlue Coupé returns 6.9 l/100 km (40.9 mpg). What is more, when the vehicle is powered by its battery alone, the CrossBlue can cover up to 33 km/20 miles as an EV.

When the vehicle operates in E-mode, only the rear electric motor propels the vehicle and the TSI engine is shut off. However, it is switched again after 75 mph an then the TSI unit is coupled to the drivetrain again, within fractions of a second. The battery can be charged by external power sources or by the engine while the SUV is moving.

In addition, the TSI drivetrain charges the battery while driving thus storing electrical energy for EV operation. There are also a number of other modes such as Coasting, Battery regeneration, Boosting, Off-road(‘propshaft by wire’), TSI only.

  • Petrolicious: Volkswagen Beetle – Kindred Spirits [VIDEO]

When you think about which car is one of the most famous and emblematic one in history you will definitely ponder on at least five models. What is also certain is that among them will be the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. One of the best words to describe this vehicle is “ubiquitous”.

The model entered production in 1935 and since then from it were produced over 21 million units. With almost 80 years old history the Beetle continues to be as successful as in its days of fame. Although it remained mostly unpopular with its original name – Volkswagen Type 1, the Beetle remains the longest-running and most manufactured car of a single design platform.

Despite the fact that so many cars of this Volkswagen model were produced, it is still extremely hard to find two Beetles that are customized in the same way. The idea of endless customization is probably what endears so many to model, or perhaps it is that behind these cars there are no two owners alike. This basically means that behind every one of it there is a story.

In the video below, the fellows from Petrolicious show exactly this: the story of Stephan Ruiz and his Beetle. After many mishaps involving stolen, burned, and wrecked Beetles, he has eventually found his personal Beetle. Clean is the best word to describe this one-year-only 1967 Beetle, and Stephan wants to keep it that way.

The electric motor has a maximum output of 82HP (60 kW)  and a continuous power of 55HP (40 kW). The torque is 210Nm (155 lb-ft) from the first rev. 0-100 km/h in 14 seconds and a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). The 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack can be charged up to 80 % in just 30 minutes.

Other higlights include LED daytime running lights, aerodynamically optimized: underbody, sills and front end. There is a set of 15” alloy wheels fitted with low-resistance tires.

The curb weight is 1,185 (2,612 lbs).

The vehicle’s interior features e-up! light-grey seat covers with blue top-stitched seams. Special leather and chrome accents have been used to convey a puristic impression that matches the vehicle concept of a full-fledged urban electric car.

Looks like the perfect city car, but will it be…?
