  • Volkswagen ID Buzz LWB

The ID.Buzz, a vehicle that brings good vibes like a rock song, has arrived. It’s the iconic electric vehicle that makes people smile. Now, the latest addition to the family is here: the ID.Buzz with a long wheelbase. It is “Made in Germany” for Europe, Canada, and the US. Volkswagen is making a comeback in North America with the ID.Buzz with a long wheelbase. The world premiere will be held on June 2 at Huntington Beach, a surfer hotspot near Los Angeles. It’s part of the biggest VW Bus festival in the USA, a tribute to the fans and the country. And as a generous gesture, June 2 will now be celebrated as “Volkswagen Bus Day” from New York to San Francisco.

In just three weeks, the ID.Buzz will have its European debut in Germany. It will take place from June 23 to 25 at the international VW Bus Festival in Hanover, Europe’s largest VW Bus meetup. This marks the continuation of the bus tour.

The VW bus left the USA and Canada 20 years ago with the T4 generation. However, it still has a cult following from New York to San Francisco. Even in 2023, the T1, T2, and T3 rear-engine generations are commonly seen at beach parking lots in California, Florida, and Long Island. Now, Volkswagen is bringing back the VW bus to North America with the ID.Buzz with a long wheelbase, this time as an electric rear-wheel drive, completing the circle.

Thomas Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Brand Group Volume, says: “Volkswagen is an extremely strong global brand with a great history, millions of loyal fans and legendary products. This is clearly evident here at the largest VW Bus festival in the USA. I am therefore delighted that the team at Volkswagen Group of America is celebrating the premiere of the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase here. With this model, we are taking a big step towards becoming a true love brand again.”

Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of the Volkswagen Group of America, underlines the importance of the electric VW bus for the US market:“The ID. Buzz and the USA – it’s a perfect match! The VW bus has a long history in the USA and enjoys real cult status. Our aim today is to further strengthen the Volkswagen brand in America. The ID. Buzz with long wheelbase is exactly the right model to fulfill this task.”

Lars Krause, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Sales and Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, also says that the ID. Buzz is the comeback of a certain automotive feeling for life: “In the USA, Canada, and Europe, the VW bus has embodied a unique attitude on life for decades. The picture of the legendary T1 Lightbus in Woodstock is unforgettable. The DNA of this symbol of freedom lives on in our ID. Buzz. It is of utmost importance to us that we can now offer the people of North America a modern, all-electric new edition with the ID. Buzz in an iconic design.”

The large ID.Buzz is perfectly suited for its launch in North America, measuring 4,962 mm in length and offering up to seven seats. Its extended wheelbase of 250 mm creates additional space for a third row of seats, providing a storage capacity of up to 2,469 liters. It also accommodates a larger 85 kWh battery, increasing its range, and features a heat pump for improved efficiency in winter. With a new 210 kW (286 hp) electric drive motor, the large ID.Buzz achieves a maximum speed of 160 km/h (European version: 150 kW, 145 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

For 2024, an all-wheel drive version called the ID.Buzz GTX with a power output of 250 kW (339 hp) is planned, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, making it ideal for merging onto highways.

The large electric VW Bus introduces new features such as a head-up display, an upgraded next-generation infotainment system, and remote parking via smartphone. It also includes a high-tech panoramic sunroof with smart glass, reminiscent of the iconic Samba Bus from the 1950s. The smart glass can be adjusted from transparent to opaque using a touch slider or voice assistant. Additionally, the North American versions will have air-conditioned seats and an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front.

The first deliveries of the ID.Buzz in America are scheduled for 2024, and around the same time, the long-wheelbase version will be available in Europe. All ID.Buzz vehicles, including the Multivan and Bulli T6.1 models, will be manufactured at the advanced Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plant in Hanover, which serves as the home of the VW Bus family.

  • Volkswagen Golf R 333 Limited Edition

Introducing the Golf R 333 Limited Edition, it’s time to unveil the showstopper! This fresh-out-of-the-box model, restricted to a mere 333 cars, is based on the mighty Golf R Performance and packs a punch with an impressive output of 333 PS (245 kW). With its all-wheel-drive special edition, get ready for exceptional driving stability and traction, courtesy of top-notch features like R-Performance Torque Vectoring and Vehicle Dynamics Manager. The Golf R 333 showcases a stunning Lime Yellow Metallic paint job, straight from the factory. The special edition also amps up its appeal with sleek black accents, making it a potential collector’s item.

“The Golf R 333 is the first R model with a specification predefined by us that leaves no customer wishes regarding performance unfulfilled – thanks to its extensive equipment,” says Hakim Halimi, Head of Product Marketing at Volkswagen R. The standout features include R-Performance Torque Vectoring with Vehicle Dynamics Manager, not only distributing power between the front and rear axles but also among the two rear wheels. This adds a special touch of sportiness, especially during cornering. Additionally, the Drift and Special driving profiles, designed for the Nürburgring racetrack, bring extra joy beyond public roads. The R Performance exhaust system by Akrapovič, featuring titanium rear silencers, and black 19-inch Estoril wheel rims with semi-slick tires, further accentuate the motorsports character of this special-edition model. The top speed has also been boosted to 270 km/h.

The decision to limit the edition was inspired by the mighty engine output of 245 kW (333 PS), making it the most powerful Golf variant with a torque of 420 newton meters. Moreover, the optimized engine tuning ensures an extremely responsive throttle response. The turbocharger maintains a constant speed during partial-load driving, resulting in quicker power delivery for subsequent acceleration. Furthermore, the open throttle valve during overrun phases enhances dynamics and on-road performance. When the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator and then accelerates again, it allows for a faster build-up of engine torque, noticeably improving the engine’s responsiveness. Clocking in at 4.6 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h, the Golf R 333 Limited Edition sets the best-in-class benchmark (compared to key competitors).

The Lime Yellow Metallic paintwork expands the color palette for the Golf R, which already includes Pure White, Lapiz Blue Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl Effect. “With the special exterior colour, black-painted roof and design decals with 333 logo on the sides, this Golf R will be offered in a combination that is unique up to now,” says Halimi. “It is the first Volkswagen R model with a strict limitation to 333 units and with a sequentially numbered badge in the interior.”

The standard equipment also boasts premium sport seats upholstered in Nappa leather, complete with integrated head restraints, and the powerful IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, inclusive of the Light and Vision package. State-of-the-art driver-assist systems are bundled in the IQ.DRIVE package, featuring Travel Assist, Lane Assist lane-keeping system, Emergency Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop & go functionality. The Golf R 333 Limited Edition is also equipped with a front center airbag and a rearview camera system. To ensure perfect sound within the cabin, there’s a Harman Kardon system with 8+1 loudspeakers and a total output of 480 W.

The Golf R holds an iconic status, with over 250,000 orders placed since 2002 for this Volkswagen R bestseller. “The Golf R 333 Limited Edition is extremely important for our brand,” says Peter Jost, Head of Marketing & Sales, Volkswagen R. “It is precisely such limited and high-performance vehicles that turbocharge the Volkswagen R brand – a genuine eye-catcher and extremely attractive. Every customer can be sure that they have an extremely rare vehicle and a potential collector’s item in their garage.”

Priced starting at 76,410 euros, the special-edition model can be ordered at German dealerships from June 2nd. Production of all 333 vehicles in Wolfsburg is set for September this year, ensuring that the first models can be handed over to customers by October. Additionally, a customer event at Autostadt is planned for all Golf R 333 Limited Edition buyers who pick up their vehicles in Wolfsburg, Germany, in October.

  • Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25

To celebrate this milestone, Volkswagen is rolling out a unique version called the Polo GTI Edition 25. Back in 1998, the Polo proudly embraced those three iconic letters: GTI. Now, twenty-five years since the launch of the Polo III GTI, VW unveils a limited edition of the current Polo GTI, packing a punchy 152 kW (207 PS). This dynamic performance is not the only remarkable feature of this sporty compact car. Equipped with sports suspension, the XDS electronic differential lock, a wide range of standard features, and special design elements, the anniversary model truly stands out. Starting from 1st June, the Polo GTI Edition 25 can be ordered in Germany, priced at €35,205. The exact specifications and pricing for the UK market will be confirmed soon.

Just like its “older sibling” the Golf GTI, the Polo has a long history and a number of sporty predecessors: VW is now marking a quarter of a century of the Polo GTI with the special anniversary model Polo GTI Edition 25, limited to 2,500 units. “Volkswagen has a rich heritage and the Polo is one of our most iconic vehicles,” says Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “GTI fans are very important to us and our anniversary model is a way of marking this milestone together with them: celebrating 25 years of power, performance, sportiness, and fun driving in the Polo class.”

    Performance and vehicle handling

Underneath the hood, the Polo GTI Edition 25 boasts a robust two-liter TSI motor generating an impressive 152 kW (207 PS) of power and a torque of 320 Nm. This mighty engine enables the front-wheel drive Polo GTI Edition 25 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds. Not only that, but this model comes with a specially calibrated sports suspension as a standard feature. With a lowered body by 15 millimeters and the electronic differential lock XDS working in harmony, the result is a seamless fusion of exceptional driving dynamics, enhanced traction, and precise handling—a hallmark of GTI models.

    Exclusive anniversary equipment

The special edition Polo GTI Edition 25 doesn’t just perform, it also makes a visual statement. Embodying the iconic GTI aesthetic, it features eye-catching red brake calipers and trim strips, a honeycomb design on the radiator grille, and chrome-plated tailpipes. But that’s not all. This Polo GTI Edition 25 comes with a range of exclusive equipment to enhance its sporty appeal, including sleek 18-inch Adelaide alloy wheels in Black Glossy, a black roof, and black exterior mirrors. Inside, you’ll find premium sport seats in perforated black-red leather adorned with stitched GTI logos, complemented by glossy black decorative trim featuring red GTI lettering. As a subtle reminder of its limited availability, the sill panel trim proudly displays the “One of 2500” logo. In addition to the classic GTI colors like Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Grey Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl Effect, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is also offered in the stylish Ascot Grey hue.

    Innovative technologies

The Polo GTI Edition 25 comes packed with standard features, including IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with Dynamic Light Assist and LED daytime running lights, ensuring excellent and uniform road illumination. The leather multifunction sports steering wheel with paddles and the distinctive “25” logo also come as standard, adding a touch of sportiness. Furthermore, this special edition model is equipped with advanced assist systems typically found in higher-class vehicles. As part of the IQ.DRIVE assist package, the optional Travel Assist enables partially automated driving. With Travel Assist, the system can take control of steering, braking, and acceleration for the Polo GTI within the speed range from 0 km/h up to 210 km/h. It relies on well-known technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control for maintaining a safe distance and Lane Assist (standard) for precise lateral guidance.

The instrument cluster and Infotainment system in the Polo GTI Edition 25 are thoughtfully designed on a single visual axis, ensuring clear visibility and effortless operation at all times. The standard Infotainment system, Ready2Discover, features a high-resolution 8-inch (20-centimeter) display, offering cutting-edge connectivity options. Additionally, there are two optional systems available for those seeking even more advanced features.

A look back at 25 years of the Polo GTI

When the GT variant of the initial Polo lineup hit the scene in 1979, it caused quite a sensation. However, it wasn’t until 1998, with the arrival of the third-generation Polo, that the iconic trio of letters was bestowed upon the car. VW decided to produce only 3,000 units of the first Polo GTI and swiftly announced that the model was completely sold out. Several years later, in 2006, the next GTI iteration made its appearance. The Cup Edition, boasting 132 kW (180 PS), delighted fans as its visual design drew inspiration from the racing cars used in the Polo Cup.

Then came the fifth generation in 2010, featuring a turbocharged and supercharged 1.4-liter TSI engine that captured the hearts of GTI enthusiasts while attracting a fresh wave of admirers. Its successor in 2014 proved to be a true powerhouse, equipped with a brand-new TSI engine delivering 141 kW (192 PS) and reaching impressive top speeds of 236 km/h.

The evolution of the Polo continued, and with it, the GTI tradition evolved as well. The sixth generation, introduced in 2021, set new benchmarks for compact cars. Built on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform, it exemplified technological progress across VW’s entire product lineup, boasting high structural integrity, remarkable weight efficiency, and exceptional crashworthiness.

  • Volkswagen ID.7

Volkswagen has unveiled its first global electric model, the ID.7, for the upper mid-size class. The car has a range of up to 700 kilometres (WLTP) and boasts a superior powertrain, spacious interior and premium technologies, making it ideal for comfortable long-distance travel. The model is almost five metres long and has an enhanced customer-focused operating concept and a high-quality appearance. The ID.7 will be launched this year in Europe and China, and in North America from 2024.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said, “With the ID.7 we are taking the next step in our electric offensive. The limousine offers a high level of comfort and long ranges. By 2026, we will offer the widest electric range of all manufacturers in Europe – from the entry-level model for less than 25,000 euros up to the ID.7 as the new top model within the ID. family. Our goal is to achieve an electric car share of 80% in Europe by 2030. Volkswagen will produce only electric vehicles in Europe starting from 2033.”

Kai Grünitz, who is responsible for Development at Volkswagen, said that the ID.7 model sets new efficiency standards with the help of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). They are targeting a range of up to 700 km according to WLTP, which is possible due to good aerodynamics and increased efficiency in powertrain and thermal management. The ID.7 is the first MEB model with a new and highly efficient drive system that delivers 210 kW (286 PS) of power, making it the most powerful electric drive motor in any Volkswagen ID. model to date. The power variant is the same for all battery sizes and has an internal designation of APP550, which was developed and produced in Kassel, Germany by Volkswagen Group Components.

The new electric drive has been optimized to consume less energy, and it is expected that the WLTP ranges of up to 700 km and charging capacities of up to about 200 kW will be possible, depending on battery size. This makes the ID.7 ideal for long-distance travel, making it suitable for frequent drivers and fleet customers.

The ID.7 was built with aerodynamics in mind and is almost five meters long. Its roof slopes elegantly to the rear in a coupé style, which helps achieve a drag coefficient of about 0.23 (depending on vehicle equipment). The long wheelbase and short overhangs provide ample interior space for all passengers.

Volkswagen introduces a new operating and display concept for the first time, along with exclusive equipment options.

Volkswagen has introduced a new operating and display concept in the ID.7 based on feedback from customers. The company has improved the operating experience in important areas.
This includes the following features as standard:

    • a 38-centimetre (15-inch) infotainment system screen
    • the augmented reality head-up display
    • a new air conditioning operating concept integrated on the top level of the infotainment system as well as freely assignable favourites buttons
    • a backlit touch slider

Imelda Labbé, who is a Member of the Brand Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, believes that the ID.7 is a highly significant model for Volkswagen in several regions around the world. The ID.7 is equipped with premium technologies, which make it highly appealing for existing as well as new customers. The car offers features such as massage seats, an electronically dimmable panoramic sunroof, and an adaptive seat Climatronic, which are typically found only in higher-end premium vehicles. The new panoramic sunroof has smart glass, which can be switched between opaque and transparent settings by touch control. The ID.7 also features a 700-watt sound system from Harman Kardon, with 14 high-end loudspeakers, including a subwoofer in the luggage compartment, which provides a remarkable sound experience.

    Enhanced best-in-class assistance systems

Volkswagen’s ID.7 features Travel Assist with swarm data, developed with the VW Group’s software company, CARIAD, which can take control of lateral and longitudinal driving as needed. At speeds above 90 km/h, the ID.7 can also support assisted lane changing on multi-lane motorways. The driver monitors this but driving is significantly easier. For parking, the electric Volkswagen can perform assisted manoeuvres in different ways, including parking with memory function up to 50 metres away. The driver can remain inside the ID.7 or monitor the parking process from outside using the smartphone app.

Accelerated electric offensive: ten new models by 2026.

Volkswagen plans to launch ten new electric models by 2026, and the ID.7 is one of them. This year, Volkswagen will introduce the new ID.3, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase, and the ID.7. The carmaker is also planning to launch an electric compact SUV and the production version of the ID.2all at a price of less than 25,000 euros in 2026. Volkswagen aims to offer the widest range of electric vehicles compared to its competitors. The ID.7 will be produced in the Volkswagen plant in Emden (Germany) for the European and North American markets, while in China, corresponding ID.7 models will be produced locally.

  • Volkswagen Atlas Peak Edition

Volkswagen of America, Inc. will showcase the 2024 Atlas Peak Edition trimline at the New York International Auto Show. The design draws inspiration from the Basecamp Concept presented in 2019. Body cladding elements give a tougher overland appearance, and black-out detailing and a unique interior palette enhance the 2024 Atlas family’s aesthetics.

Peak Edition models of the Atlas have a distinctive front fascia and silver underbody cladding. The lower fascia has a gloss-black “X” design element borrowed from the Atlas Cross Sport. The grille is mostly blacked-out, with two chrome strips that stand out and flow to the illuminated logo.

On the side of the vehicle, there is a large gloss-black badge with the Peak Edition logo in orange and chrome on the front quarter panel. The Atlas has 18-inch black alloy wheels with 255/60 all-terrain tires, making it more versatile. The side sills in black and silver also contribute to the rugged appearance. Additionally, the black-out look is complete with black mirror caps, window surround, wheel arches, and roof rails.

The rear of the Atlas has a black tailgate strip that connects with a rugged black and silver diffuser featuring chrome exhaust bezels. The Peak Edition models have two new exterior colors that are exclusive to the Atlas family: Avocado Green and Pure Grey.

Peak Edition models have a unique interior that uses colors from the logo. The seats are Titan Black leatherette with light grey accents and orange contrast stitching. The dash and door inserts have a black metallic check pattern that differentiates the Peak Edition from the other Atlas models. The steering wheel clip has the same logo as the exterior badging, and the ambient lighting has 30 color choices that pair with innovative backlit dash décor that reads “Peak Edition.”

The 2024 Atlas lineup will include the Peak Edition trimline, which will be fully detailed closer to its launch this summer.

  • Volkswagen ID.2all Concept

Volkswagen is introducing its ID. 2all concept vehicle, a preview of its affordable electric car that will cost less than 25,000 euros. Volkswagen is also again placing greater focus on design. Andreas Mindt, Head of Design at Volkswagen Passenger Cars: “The ID. 2all gives a preview of the new design language of Volkswagen, which is based on the three pillars of stability, likeability and excitement.”

Exterior design: friendly face, very dynamic and new C-pillar signature

One element of this new design language is the C-pillar design developed for the first Golf. The ID. 2all is the first Volkswagen with a new interpretation of this signature. Other design features of the concept include a body with a clear and powerful stance on the wheels, a friendly face, a good portion of dynamics and timeless elegance.

Interior design: spacious, high-quality appearance, self-explanatory operation

The interior also has a clear design and is characterised by a high-quality appearance, a self-explanatory infotainment system with classic volume control and a separate air conditioning block. The storage volume is a generous 490–1,330 litres, a value exceeding that of higher vehicle classes.

Accelerated electric offensive: ten new electric models by 2026

The production version of the ID. 2all is one of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen by 2026. This year alone sees the introduction of the new ID.3, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase and the ID.7 saloon. This will be followed by a compact electric SUV in 2026 and, in spite of all the challenges, Volkswagen is also working on an electric car at a price of less than 20,000 euros. This will give the car manufacturer the widest range of electric vehicles compared with its competitors, and the company is also aiming to achieve an electric car share of 80 per cent in Europe. • Volkswagen ID.3

Fresh design, higher-quality materials and the latest-generation assist systems: that is the new ID.3. Two and a half years after the launch of the first generation, the all-electric bestseller from Volkswagen is now coming to the market with a comprehensive upgrade. In addition to the latest software, the compact electric car comes with a sharpened exterior and refined interior design. The range of colours has been extended by new colours, including Dark Olivine Green. High-quality, animal-free and sustainable materials reflect Volkswagen’s strategy for the all-electric ID. family.

Imelda Labbé, Member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen: “With the second-generation of the ID.3, we are continuing the success story of our ID. family. The design has matured and the materials in the interior have been significantly upgraded. The new ID.3 demonstrates our clear commitment to quality, design and operability, and we have systematically taken on board the wishes of our customers.” The new ID.3 is one of ten electric models that VW will launch by 2026.

Exterior: sharpened design, improved aerodynamics. The exterior of the all-electric model from the compact class catches the eye with a fresh and sharpened look: optimised air-cooling openings and large painted surfaces make the front appear confident and friendly from every angle. One reason for this is the new bumper. The bonnet now appears longer because the black strip under the windscreen has been removed and recessed sections at the sides additionally extend the front. VW has optimised the aerodynamics by improved air flow around the front wheels – known as the “air curtain”. At the rear, the two-part tail lights also shine in the rear lid for the first time.

Interior: superior quality, sustainable and animal-free. The interior of the new ID.3 combines modern design and sustainable materials. Precise seams in a contrasting colour additionally enhance the feeling of quality. VW uses the microfibre material Artvelours Eco for the door trims and seat covers, a fabric that contains 71 per cent recyclate. This is a secondary raw material that is obtained by recycling plastic that has previously been disposed of as waste at least once. Artvelours Eco has the same characteristics in terms of look and feel and durability as conventional new materials. The interior equipment is also completely animal-free.

In addition, numerous suggestions from customers were collected and implemented as product improvements and to enhance the standard equipment package. Soft, foam- backed surfaces in the cockpit create a new haptic experience. The remodelled interior door trims also have softer and larger surfaces.

Intelligently connected as standard. Charging is easier and even more convenient with the new ID.3., thanks to standard functions such as Plug & Charge – where the vehicle authenticates itself and starts the charging process when the charging cable is plugged in at a charging station – and the intelligent Electric Vehicle Route Planner. On longer journeys, the Electric Vehicle Route Planner calculates charging stops so that the destination can be reached as quickly as possible – using current traffic information and forecasts in addition to the battery charge level. The charging stops are evaluated dynamically on the basis of the capacity of the individual charging stations. This means that the route planning function may suggest two short charging operations with high power instead of a single long charging stop with low power. In addition, the system detects charging stations that are occupied – and does not suggest them in the first place. Points of interest can be transferred to the car using the free We Connect ID. app.

Modern and intuitive operating concept. The new ID.3 comes with the latest software generation. This improves system performance and is able to receive over-the-air updates. The compact driver display with a screen diagonal of 13.4 centimetres (5.3 inches) is operated on the multifunction steering wheel. The middle of the console accommodates the now standard 30.5-centimetre (12-inch) touch display for the navigation system, telephone functions, media, assist systems and vehicle settings.

Many customer wishes were also taken into account when designing the menu structure. Among other things, the layout has become clearer, and the charging menu is now located on the first level of the touch display.

The optional augmented reality head-up display (AR head-up display) projects information such as the vehicle speed and dynamic navigation instructions onto the windscreen. For the driver, this information appears to be 10 metres in front of the vehicle – displayed with the correct perspective and clearly recognisable.

Latest-generation assist systems2. The optional Travel Assist with swarm data3 is now also available in the ID.3. In combination with the adaptive cruise control (ACC) for longitudinal vehicle control from 0 km/h up to the top speed and Lane Assist for lateral control, this driver assist system can make use of two proven systems that are fully integrated with one another in the new ID.3. If swarm data is available, Travel Assist needs just one identified road lane marking to keep the vehicle in lane when driving on country roads.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Development: “With the new ID.3 we are bringing premium technologies into the compact class – in line with our Volkswagen goal of successively offering innovations in the whole model range. This is also reflected in the latest-generation convenience and assist systems in the ID.3. By using swarm data in the Travel Assist system, we are taking the next step on the path to highly automated driving.”

Volkswagen on the Way to ZERO. VW has reached a further milestone on its way to becoming a zero-emission, software-based mobility services provider. Since the launch of the ID. family, more than 600,000 ID. models based on the modular electric drive (MEB) platform have already been delivered to customers around the world so far. The Volkswagen product range now comprises six ID. models. In addition to production in Zwickau and Dresden, the new ID.3 will also be built in the parent plant in Wolfsburg from autumn 2023.

  • Volkswagen Atlas

Volkswagen of America, Inc. unveiled the new 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport at the Chicago Auto Show today. The refreshed seven- and five-seaters offer enhanced technology, upgraded interior designs and materials, and a livelier powertrain.

“The Atlas was the first modern Volkswagen designed, engineered and produced specifically for American buyers, and since its debut, it has become a major player in the U.S. market,” said Pablo Di Si, president and CEO, Volkswagen of America. “The refreshed Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport continue to build on that success, with an elegant new interior and a sophisticated turbocharged engine that improves both performance and the driving experience.”

While the refreshed Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport maintain the same underpinnings of the successful outgoing models, the spacious interior of each vehicle receives a major upgrade for the 2024 model year. Premium materials are adopted throughout, including a leatherette-trimmed soft-touch dash and center console. Front-row door trim and décor flow seamlessly into the dash panel, creating an upscale cockpit; the door treatment is also mirrored in the second row. Available ambient lighting with 30 color choices pairs with innovative backlit dash décor featuring the model name to elevate the new design. Top-of-range models feature quilted leather seats with a diamond pattern.

Comfort features get a boost as well. A heated steering wheel with shift paddles, ventilated front seats and a height-adjustable passenger seat are now standard fare, along with Climatronic® automatic climate control and Voice Control. The center console is redesigned with a storage cubby underneath. Leather seating surfaces and heated rear seats are now available a trim line lower than previous models.

Enhanced technology in the refreshed Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport offers a more connected experience. A 12-inch floating infotainment display is an elegant focal point in the redesigned cockpit, and drivers of every trim level benefit from the 10.25-inch fully configurable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro. Connecting devices is easier than ever with standard wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, and six USB-C ports (eight available) with 45-watt fast charging.

IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technology, featuring hands-on semi-automatic capability, is now standard as well. On the highway, IQ.DRIVE features lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel to make driving easier. Around town, IQ.DRIVE helps alert you to surprise obstacles in front of you, and keeps an eye around you to help make driving safer. A head-up display and predictive Adaptive Cruise Control are also available.

Outside, model year 2024 brings a new front end design and greater differentiation between Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. On both cars, a wide chrome four-bar grille is framed by LED headlights with the newly standard Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). On all but base trims, the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) wrap around the headlights and continue into an illuminated lightbar that sits atop of an illuminated VW logo, giving the vehicle an unmistakable premium look. A new front fascia with integrated air intakes completes the front end treatment. Atlas Cross Sport models feature gloss-black grille details and a gloss-black “X” design element stretching across the lower fascia, similar to Taos.

At the rear, both models add a larger spoiler, lengthening the overall roofline of the vehicles and giving them a sleeker side profile. All but base trims mirror the front lighting signature in the rear with an illuminated lightbar and VW logo sitting between the LED taillights. Atlas Cross Sport models add a more aggressive rear diffuser than the previous generation, further differentiating the two models.

All trims get new wheel designs, ranging from 18 to 20 inches with machined alloy and black finishes available. R-line® trims up the ante with a gloss-black grille, 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and signature R-line badging.

For 2024, the Atlas family will be powered solely by a four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine with 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The new engine provides similar power to the outgoing VR6, a bump in torque—which is available over a broader rev range, improving drivability and acceleration—and is anticipated to provide improved fuel economy. Towing capacity remains the same, at 5,000 pounds. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard; Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is available across the model lineup.

  • Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet Grey Edition

Volkswagen is launching the T-Roc Cabriolet as a limited “Edition Grey” small series. The car for open-top driving features a special matt paint finish in the colour Indium Grey as well as interior and exterior accents in black. The special-edition model also includes numerous driver assist systems and a range of high-quality equipment, with a price advantage of up to 1,400 euros. The first cars in the limited edition of 999 vehicles will be delivered from February 2023.

Matt paintwork is the trend of the times and emphasises sporty elegance. Volkswagen already launched its first model with matt paintwork last year with the T-Roc “Edition Blue”. The character of the new T-Roc Cabriolet “Edition Grey” is now also defined by this special paintwork. Instead of a gloss paint finish, the basic paintwork in Indium Grey has a matt clear coat. This offers the same level of protection as the conventional clear coat, particularly with respect to its resistance to ultraviolet radiation and stone chipping.

Black accents for a special appearance. The sporty R-Line specification (including sports running gear and progressive steering) provides the basis for the new special edition model. The standard equipment also includes the Black Style design package with black trim strips and mirror covers and a black rear spoiler. The door handles and T-Roc lettering on the rear are also in Deep Black. Black-painted 18-inch wheels in Grange Hill design round off the overall appearance.

Extensive technical equipment as standard. The “Edition Grey” special-edition model comes with convenient assist systems and attractive equipment details as standard. These include:

    • Discover Media navigation system (including Streaming and Internet),
    • IQ.DRIVE driver assist package, including the semi-automated driving assistance Travel Assist, the lane keeping system Lane Assist and the lane change system Side Assist
    • IQ. LIGHT LED matrix headlights, including advanced main-beam control Dynamic Light Assist
    • Winter package, including heated steering wheel
    • Rear view camera system

The special-edition model offers savings of up to 1,400 euros compared with the R-Line equipment.

The model is also optionally available with the additional Edition Plus package. Among other things, this includes:

    • Black 19-inch wheels in Suzuka design,
    • Adaptive chassis control DCC,
    • Discover Pro navigation system,
    • BeatsAudio sound system.

The price advantage here is 2,400 euros.

Limited edition. The small series of the T-Roc Cabriolet is limited to 999 vehicles. The numbering is shown on a sill panel moulding designed especially for this special-edition model. The T-Roc Cabriolet “Edition Grey” (with 1.5 TSI 110 kW / 150 PS) is priced at 46,470 euros in the “Edition” base specification or 51,600 euros with the “Edition Plus” package Deliveries are expected to start in February 2023.

The T-Roc – a model of success. More than one million vehicles sold since the market introduction in 2017 speak for themselves: the T-Roc is a bestseller and a main pillar in the product range of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. For open-air fans, VW has additionally offered the T-Roc Cabriolet since 2019. With their powerful design, top quality, outstanding equipment (also including the Digital Cockpit as standard) and high-performance assist systems, both models set standards in the high-volume segment. Proven core models such as the T-Roc, Golf and Tiguan provide a decisive basis for the success of Volkswagen in the transformation of the company.

  • Volkswagen ID.4 EV Drone Command Concept

Volkswagen of America is collaborating with the Tennessee Valley Authority as the utility corporation sets a goal of operating a 100 percent electric sedan and SUV fleet by the year 2030. As one of its early steps, the utility provider has chosen to collaborate with Volkswagen on a year-long test using its ID.4 EV to analyze capabilities and various applications of electric vehicle usage.  As part of this test, Volkswagen has modified a 2023 ID.4 AWD Pro S as a “Mobile Drone Response Vehicle” to equip TVA test drivers for a number of real-world response scenarios.

An eye-catching exterior graphics package was designed to boost visibility of the test fleet program. Featuring a trunk-housed custom storage unit for drone and field equipment, the vehicle is also outfitted with a portable power station. Versatility gets a boost by way of a Thule Caprock platform roof rack, supplemented with a Thule retractable side awning. Eighteen-inch wheels with H&R TRAK+ wheel spacers and 245/60R18 all-terrain tires unlock new roads for the SUV, while a heavy-duty suspension aids in hauling the weight of additional equipment. Roadside emergency lighting and side and rear-mounted floodlighting help responders when arriving on scene, while a full-display digital rearview mirror ensures optimal visibility for the vehicle’s operator. Additional Volkswagen Accessories on the concept include splash guards, a spare tire kit, dock & coat hanger, and Muddybuddy floor liners. The ID.4 EV Drone Command concept is shown with recovery boards and a fire extinguisher.

  • Volkswagen Golf R32

Twenty years ago, the Volkswagen Golf R32 took the world by storm. First released in Europe, the Mk4 Golf R32 was groundbreaking with its narrow-angle 3.2-liter VR6® engine putting out 240 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual and 4Motion® all-wheel drive. In 2004, a made-for-America version was produced, bringing just over 5,000 units of the one-of-a-kind performance hatchback stateside.

The two-door 2004 R32 featured a special three-grille front bumper, side skirts, rear hatch spoiler, and rear valance with special dual-exit rear muffler. It rode on 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, paired with 225/40R18 performance summer tires and 13.1-inch front and 10.1-inch rear ventilated disc brakes. It was available in just four colors: Black Magic, Deep Blue, Reflex Silver, and Tornado Red. The interior mirrored the performance nature of the elevated hot hatch. Sport seats with integrated head restraints and supportive high bolsters sat alongside a sport steering wheel and aluminum interior accents, with “R” logo placement throughout.
