  • NRW Volkswagen Passat CC With Enhanced Power Output

NRW-Volkswagen-Passat-CC-THUMBThe latest project by FolienCenter-NRW is this Volkswagen Passat CC which has been wrapped with high-grade Marrakech brown-matt taken from the Hexis foil program. However, they have made a contrast with the warm brown colour shade and the roof, external rear-view mirrors and the radiator grill which were covered in glossy black.

In addition, there is also a three-dimensional “R” relief which is embossed on the broad C-column in the wrapping dress. It is naturally reflected in the factory-installed R-line bodywork package of the luxurious flagship.

The specialists have also equipped this Volkswagen with new set of shoes. To make it even more luxurious they have included Bentley Mulliner rims with matt-black stars which perfectly match the 9×20-inch Nobel wheels. The latter in addition were applied with Nankang NS-II tyres of the dimension 225/30R20.

Furthermore, the CC was given a lowering DDC coilover kit which ensures that the wheel-tyre combination is completely fitted in the wheel houses. An additional boost in the engine was delivered by SKN. The professionals there managed to increase the output of the 2.0 litre TDI engine from 170 hp (125 kW) to about 210 hp (155 kW) via “stage 1” engine map optimization.

This enhancement also resulted in increase of maximum torque which now is more than 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and thus leading to a powerful thrust whenever the accelerator is pressed.

At last, FolienCenter-NRW also put some efforts on the interior of the Passat CC. For instance the company equipped the car with aluminium surface of the R-line package on the dashboard, centre console and door linings wrapped in the colour of the car, R-line sports steering wheel which is flattened below and R-line aluminium pedal systems.

  • Officially Revealed: Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept

Volkswagen-Design-Vision-GTI-Concept-THUMBOne of the biggest tuning events this year is the Austrian Wörthersee festival, where the race car Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept was just revealed. The model is based on the seventh-generation GTI, but has substantially wider front and rear tracks, as well as runs on specially developed 20-inch wheels coupled with 235 tires in the front and 275s at the rear.

This concept is able of achieving a top speed of 186 mph thanks to the 503 hp (370 kW) developed at 6500 rpm by its engine. Namely, it is the turbocharged and direct injection TSI® 3.0-liter V6 engine that utilizes twin turbochargers. Two three-way catalytic converters are arranged close to the engine in order to reduce the emissions.

The torque here is estimated at 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque from as low as 2000 rpm and at 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) at 4000 rpm. All this power and torque is distributed to the wheels via a DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. These numbers allow effortless acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds.

Furthermore, this Volkswagen is fitted with large carbon-ceramic brake discs in size 15.0 inches up front and 14.0 inches at the back. They and the red-painted brake calipers peek through the spokes of the 20-inch alloy wheels, which are 8.5J wide at the front and 9.5J at the back.

Design Vision GTI looks radical, because it’s shorter, wider, and lower than a regular GTI. It is no less than 2.2 inches lower, at 54.5 inches, and it is 2.8 inches wider (73.6 inches). The track has also increased: at the rear it is now 62.2 inches (59.7 for the production GTI) and 62 .8 inches at the front (versus 60.6).

The color scheme for the model is in traditional GTI triad of black-white-red. The paint is white (in particular in White Club), the add-on parts are black (piano paint black), and the GTI insignia as well as the strip integrated in the front are red.

The C-pillar is drawn outward as an autonomous design element, while the main part of the body narrows strongly towards the rear. This process starts right behind the front wheel with a vertical air outlet that highlights the waisted doors. On the other hand, the sill grows continually outward until its upper edge merges with the C pillar.

What is more, the front end is also sculptural. Here the radiator grille, the bottom air inlet, and the brake cooling vents are combined with the headlights and framed by the front fenders and the hood.

At the same time, an all-round sharp edge is present at the rear. The taillights straddle the space between the C-pillars and the rear deck, while the integrated rear spoiler has the same position as the production GTI’s. At the bottom of the car, the dominant elements are the aerodynamically conceived ribs of the rear diffuser and the exhaust tips that frame the assembly.

The interior of the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept brings about the philosophy of “reduced design. This basically means – as few switches as necessary. For instance, the steering wheel here features an ergonomically optimized DSG paddle shifters.

In addition, there are number of controls integrated into the upper section of the center console such as the switches and rugged turn knobs for climate control, the hazard light switch, and the activation for the on-board camera. An electrical kill switch, a push-button for the fire extinguisher and the ESP deactivation are housed underneath. The car has three drive modes: “Street,” “Sport” and “Track”.

Another highlight here is that the race-car-feel is further enhanced by the partial use of carbon fiber. The latter is combined with “Anthracite” and “Titan Black” Alcantara as well as “Black” and “Flash Red” Nappa leather. The rear seats have gone, their space taken by an X-shaped cross member that additionally reinforces body stiffness.

  • Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabrio Austria Concept

Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Golf GTI Cabrio Austria Concept.

It boasts an Oryx White exterior with Flash Red stripes and numerous red accents. Other highlights include a new front spoiler, different rear apron and a set of 19” alloy wheels fitted with low-profile tires.

The interior comes with tri-color Recaro sport seats, red trim elements and powerful 2,250 WATT audio system. There is also a new flat-bottom steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and distinctive air vents with red accents.

The power is 333HP (245 kW) coming from 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine equipped with a stainless steel sports exhaust system. Other performance parts are a strut tower brace and Brembo brake system.

Projects such as the Golf GTI Cabrio Austria allow Volkswagen to give its best apprentices an opportunity to extend their knowledge. The “Austria” is the sixth “Apprentices’ GTI” to celebrate its world premiere in Reifnitz at the Wörthersee Lake. Previous models drew large crowds at public events, for example at the “IdeenExpo” exhibition in Hanover.

  • Volkswagen Amarok R-Style Concept

Volkswagen has announced the Amarok R-Style Concept, which will make its official public debut at the 2013 Worthersee Motor Show.

It is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 TDI with 272HP (200 kW) and 600Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, which is pretty good for a pick-up truck. The engine also boasts super-low fuel consumption and superb flexibility.

The exterior boasts 60 mm wider fenders to make room for the enormous 22” alloy wheels fitted with 295/35 R22 performance tires. There are also sill extensions with built-in carbon plates, two chromed tailpipes, GTI-like interior, carbon dashboard, subwoofer, race bucket seats and an 8” touchscreen display.

  • Premiere: Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept

Volkswagen-Design-Vision-GTI-THUMBVolkswagen will premiere today its new Design Vision GTI Concept at the annual Wörthersee meeting. The model is based on the seventh-generation Golf GTI, but transfers the design and power potential of the iconic hot hatch to the world of racing.

Highlights here are the C-pillars and side sills which have been extended out as autonomous body elements. The consequence is that they now allow wider track and larger wheels. In addition, the Design Vision GTI has a long wheelbase and short front overhangs.

It is 4,253 mm long (15 mm less than the production GTI), 1,385 mm in high (57 mm lower than the road-going car) and 1,870 wide – which shows a 71 mm growth in width. These dimensions are reflected in the car’s wide track: 1,595 mm at the front and 1,579 at the rear.

The car runs on unique 20-inch wheels and is equipped with ceramic brake discs. Many of the car’s external design features: the honeycomb grille, black, red and white colour scheme and horizontal red line details also contribute towards the sporty stance of the vehicle. However, a particularly striking elemts is the headlamp unit in which the lights are set back as if into the bonnet.

Under the bonnet, Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TSI engine with direct injection and turbocharger. It generates 503 hp (370 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. This amount of horsepower is channelled via a DSG gearbox to all four wheels. The result is effortless acceleration time from standstill to 62 mph in only 3.9 seconds.

How about the interior of this concept? Of course, it was designed with the aim of continuation of the sporty theme. It exhibits the minimum number of switches, and those which there are oriented towards the driver for maximum utilization when driving on the track.

What makes the car even more attractive is the familiar black, red and white color scheme, the touches of carbon and alcantara as well as a door handle in the shape of a red loop. In addition, the back seat space is occupied by an X-shaped cross member, while two black helmets are stored under the cross member.

At last, a large display on right of the main instruments serves as a display which shows the current circuit and times achieved. The display also communicates with other vehicles and calculates details about the current status of the race in real time.

This type of exhaust gas cooling makes a crucial contribution towards improving fuel consumption at full load in the new Golf GTI. In other words, the new Golf GTI is up to 18 % more fuel efficient than the previous model.

    Other highlights include 42 kg lower weight or a total of 1,351 kg, 10 km/h more in top speed – 246 km/h (manual) or 244 km/h (DSG) and 6.5 seconds – 0-100 km/h. The Performance variant is even faster – 250 km/h (manual) and 248 km/h (DSG) and 6.4 seconds to 100 km/h.

The Golf GTI Performance comes with a front LSD (limited slip differential) exclusively developed for this version. The Performance Pack itself not only consists of a power boost and the differential lock, it also offers a braking system with larger dimensions and internally-ventilated discs at all four wheels.

The exterior of the new GTI is distinguished from other cars in the model series by numerous additional features – red painted brake callipers, smoked LED rear lights in a custom design as well as chrome tailpipes on the left and right. The production colours Red (“Tornado Red”) and “Black” as well as “Pure White” have been typical for the Golf GTI since its early days. Also standard on-board the most powerful, fastest and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI ever are the newly designed 17-inch “Brooklyn” alloy wheels with size 225/45 tyres.

The interior also has some upgrades like sport seats, GTI instrument cluster, an independent leather sport steering wheel (with multifunction keys), red ambience lighting (in front, in the trim strips of the doors and the stainless steel door sill guards) and pedals made of brushed stainless steel.
