  • Geneva Motor Show: 2013 Volkswagen Golf Estate

2013-Volkswagen-Golf-Estate-THUMB2013 Volkswagen Golf Estate is making a first world appearance at this Geneva Motor Show. The model has been present on the automotive market for twenty years. This Volkswagen model resembles the Golf hatchback but is based on the MQB platform and in addition is up to 105 kg lighter than its predecessor.

Furthermore, for the first time the Golf Estate will be available as a full BlueMotion model as well, with a combined fuel consumption of just 85.6 mpg which is equivalent to 87 g/km of CO2.

What also has to be highlighted is that its boot volume has been expanded from the 505 litres of itspredecessor to 605 litres. This means that when it is loaded up to the front seat backrests and under the roof, it delivers a cargo volume of no less than 1,620 litres.

Moreover, in terms of exterior visual attributes, the new Golf Estate closely follows closely the lines of the Golf hatchback model. It has a total length of 4,562 mm, and visually the “third” side window forms a part of the D-pillar. The result is more sporty appearance.

There are also available a variety of engines. First of all, the derivative BlueMotion utilizes a 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 110 PS (80 kW) and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine line-up here begins with a 1.2-litre TSI 105 PS (77 kW), rising via a 1.4-litre TSI 122 PS (90 kW) unit to a 1.4-litre TSI ACT 140 PS (103 kW) engine with cylinder deactivation.

Additionally, two other diesel-engine models will be offered: a 1.6-litre TDI 105 PS (77 kW) and a 2.0-litre TDI 150 PS (110 kW). Prices and specification will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

  • Geneva Motor Show: 2014 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion

2014-Volkswagen-Golf-BlueMotion-THUMBThe new 2014 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is making a world premiere at this year Geneva Motor Show. This is one of the world’s most fuel-efficient family cars: a genuine five-seater, with all the Golf’s traditional attributes of comfort, safety and practicality, along with combined fuel consumption of 88.3 mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of just 85 g/km, makes it the perfect car.

The above mentioned numbers also signify that there is a 15 per cent improvement over the previous-generation Golf BlueMotion, which emitted 99 g/km. The new model is equipped with a 50-litre fuel tank and has 88.3 mpg fuel consumption. The theoretical range of this Volkswagen model is 970 miles.

The great fuel consumption figure is achieved through innovative lightweight design. This includes 26 kg less weight in the running gear and 37 kg less in the body, engine-related modifications and a collection of other measures such as super low rolling resistance tyres with higher air pressure, longer gear ratios – five-speed manual gearbox, the Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems that are standard in all new Golf’s, plus specific aerodynamic modifications.

Furthermore, the frontal area of the new Golf has been reduced by 0.03 m2 and aerodynamic drag by nearly 10 per cent. In terms of aerodynamics, the BlueMotion has lowered ride height, a roof spoiler, lateral air guide elements on the rear window, a masked front grille, partially closed air inlet screens, enhanced cooling system airflow, special underfloor panels, optimised brake cooling channels and a C-pillar spoiler. The result is that the Golf BlueMotion is one of the most aerodynamic cars in its class.

More importantly, at the heart of the new Golf BlueMotion concept lies the 1.6-litre 110 PS TDI from the newly developed EA288 engine series. This unit develops 110 PS (80 kW) and has a maximum torque of 250 Nm (185 lb-ft) from just 1,500 rpm up to 2,750 rpm.

Pricing and exact specification of the 2014 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion will be announced closer to launch.

  • Volkswagen e-Co-Motion Concept Debuts In Geneva

Volkswagen-e-Co-Motion-Concept-THUMBVolkswagen e-Co-Motion Concept will be unveiled at Geneva International Motor Show next week. The transporter concept vehicle has a large cargo capacity but at the same time is compact and maneuverable.

It has 800 kilograms of payload, but still manages to deliver zero emissions on the road thanks to its electric drive system. This special Volkswagen model is exclusively conceptualized with an electric drive, and in addition has great vehicle properties: high maneuverability with a small vehicle footprint, very good visibility and seating ergonomics with easy entry, exit and walk-through, a low cargo floor height and large cargo capacity.

As one can see, the exterior of the e-Co-Motion combines what at first appear to be contradictory development specifications: maximum space on a minimal vehicle footprint. It has a length of just 4.55 m, width of 1.90 m and height of 1.96 m.

This concept delivers maximum cargo capacity of 4.6 m3 and an 800 kg of payload thanks to the lower driving-relevant zone containing an underfloor drive unit, battery and gearbox; and an upper superstructure that is relevant to delivery tasks.

The result is that there are present ideal conditions for maximum space use and all sorts of body versions and customer solutions. For example, it can be a driver’s cab in front of a cargo box or a passenger shuttle, low platform or refrigerated box.

  • KW Volkswagen Golf VI Convertible Adds The Lambo-Effect with LSD-Doors

LSD-VW-Golf-VI-Cabrio-THUMBThe sub-brand of KW Automotive – LSD-Doors has given the Volkswagen Golf VI Convertible new spectacular appearance. LSD Doors were installed without a big effort giving this Volkswagen model a great advantage.

Namely – instead of replacing the entire door, one just have to replace the series hinges against the LSD-Doors hinges. This means that one can now open the Golf doors just like the doors of many Lamborghini models.

As a matter of fact, the LSD fittings set a standard for high quality styling accessories with their three-dimensional adjustment possibility, the effortless installation at the original mounting points and their perfect fit. The perfect opening and closing of the doors happens thanks to the adjustable roller guide of the Guided Roller System (GRS+) with additional locking.

Furthermore, the swing arm of the LSD hinges is directed via roller when the movement is happening. A gas spring which matches the weight of the door, keeps it in position in the complete opened status. In addition, thanks to the LSD hinges, the original doors open first outwards and then in the upper direction.
