  • A-Team’s Bus Lives Again Thanks to RFK Tuning

RFK Tuning Volkswagen T5 Bus Front ViewWe rarely publish news like this, but this one is very intriguing, since this Volkswagen T5 looks like a masterpiece. This time under the spotlight is the designer’s team at the RFK and its unique take on the popular T5 bus from VW. As a matter of fact, the van looks like an A-Team van that was adapted to a VW T5 Bus.

You might wonder what is A-Team? This is a group of ex-US Army Special Forces men called “The A-Team” founded back in 1980. The band battled bad guys on the small screen every evening, creating history and making their black and red GMC G20 Van very popular.

In other words, the special van (bus) you see here was inspired by the visual concept of the A-Team van. It is of course painted in black and features distinctive red side flash. In addition, the T5 Bus features more aggressive front fascia because of the addition of the Delta 4×4 nudge bar, headlights with LED DRLs and the badge-less grille. At the rear the theme is continued via the darkened LED lights and a red color-coded wing on the trailing edge of the roof.

In terms of wheels, RFK specialists chosen Deep Concave variant of the in-house made Elegance Wheels E1. They were painted red to mimic the look of the wheels on the iconic original A-Team van and come in 20-inch size. They are shod with 275/35ZR20 tyres at all four corners.

The driven dynamics are also taken care for; hence height adjustable KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension was due. RFK Tuning also performed power upgrade by using their ECU optimization software to boost the 2.0 litre TDI motor from 140 to 170 hp, with peak torque growing from 320 to 380 Nm.

  • Volkswagen Presents the 2017 Golf Allroad Machine

2017 Volkswagen Golf AlltrackVolkswagen of America, Inc., unveiled the US production model of the AWD Golf Alltrack, scheduled to go on sale the Fall of 2017. The Alltrack is based on the SportWagen and will become proud Golf family member with its MQB architecture, turbocharged and direct engine and the overall excellent performance rates.

The Alltrack can also show some wonderful fuel consumption efficiency, but at the same time it also reminds of its agility: the 4MOTION AWD drive system, along with the Haldex-5 coupling offer front-wheel-drive experience, but as soon as the system detects wheel slip, it immediately delivers some torque to the rear wheels. Furthermore, the Haldex coupling also contributes to the effectiveness of the electronic stability control system by enabling uninterrupted transfer of drive power to the opposite side of a broken wheel.

    Exterior design

The fresh Golf also impresses with some distinctive looks. The car proudly shows fresh new bumpers, wheels, side sills and front fascia expression. Also, the S and SE trim levels come with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, while the flagship SEL offers large 18-inch wheels. Also notable are the silver details on the roof rails, matte mirror caps and diffuser.

And as expected, the production-based concept car marked great stats: at the first race weekend the Golf won the secon race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

But the celebration does not end here. To mark the notable anniversary, Volkswagen also launches the most powerful production GTI so far: the Golf GTI Clubsport. • Volkswagen Premieres the Goddess of Fidelity “Phideon” at the Geneva Motor Show

Volkswagen Phideon Front ViewVolkswagen Phideon luxury saloon is currently making a Geneva Motor Show world premiere. Although it is being premiered in Europe, it is actually created for the Chinese market, where it will be positioned between the Passat and the Magotan. It will be launched there by the end of the year. Why this debut is so important? Because the Phideon actually carries the new “face” of Volkswagen’s luxury saloons.

The design of the Phideon might look similar to this of the C Coupe GTE Concept car and the reason for this is that the first was actually derived from the concept that was presented at Auto Shanghai last year. As a matter of fact, it features only minor changes. In terms of techniques, the Phideon is based on the Modular Longitudinal Matrix (MLB) being the first VW to be based on such. In addition, the luxury saloon is also the first Volkswagen model to be equipped with camera-based night vision system.

SEE ALSO: Volkswagen Teases SUV Concept Ahead of Geneva Premiere

     The Name

One might also ask, what does the name Phideon stand for? Volkswagen did respond to this question philosophically, stating that the name “is a construct standing for elegance and reliability, and phonetically and symbolically evokes Fides, the Roman goddess of fidelity”.

    The TSI Engines

The presented at the show top-of-the-range model is equipped with the most powerful turbocharged direct injection 3.0 V6 TSI 4MOTION engine, which produces up to 300 PS (220 kW) and drives the four wheels. The torque is measured at 440 Nm (324 lb-ft).

There are also two drivetrains to be featured in the future. The first one is the available 2.0 TSI with a front-wheel drive, while the second is a plug-in hybrid. No details were additionally mentioned, regarding torque and horsepower.

    The Exterior Design

    Volkswagen Phideon Side View

The exterior of the Phideon coems with sporty proportions. Precisely, it is 5.05 metres long, 1.87 metres wide and 1.48 metres high. The most important thing about the design is the “new face”, which will be applied to other VW’s future high-end saloons. It includes bonnet with sharp contours, wide and comparatively high radiator grille with four chrome bars, two chrome-plated crossbars framing the dual LED headlights and LED DRLs.

The profile is characterised by a character line formed by two lines, large wheel arches and the huge alloy wheels, which were derived directly from the C Coupé GTE. At last, the rear section I powerful and mimics the front end. It is too dominated by a horizontal division of the surfaces, accentuating the car’s width, LED rear lights and a stainless steel exhaust tailpipes.

    Luxurious and Modern Interior

The sporty five-seater is spacious and comfortable inside. The dashboard and the overall interior design are focused on the technical aspects and driving dynamics, which allows for better driving experience. In terms of luxury, the car is equipped with luxurious seats that are electrically adjusted and include individual settings, have integrated seat ventilation and heating as well as a massage function. The wrap-around ambient light strip that can switch between three different colors adds to the ambient atmosphere.

    The High-End Technologies

These include convenience and driver assistance systems like the air suspension system, five individually selectable driving modes, electric soft-closing system for the doors, called “Soft Close” and the MLB assistance systems like Area View, Park Assist, Side Assist, etc.

At last, we must say that we hope Volkswagen to introduce this limousine soon in other countries except China.

  • Volkswagen Teases SUV Concept Ahead of Geneva Premiere

Volkswagen SUV Concept First TeaserVolkswagen will premiere a brand new SUV concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Initially, I though that in this news there is nothing interesting for telling. However, I looked at it for a second time and made up my mind, since the controversies with Volkswagen (and the emissions) were strong last year.

Basically, two models will take a center stage at the Volkswagen’s stand at the Geneva International Motor Show. The first one is VW up!, which we spoke of lately and that will come with impressive range of variants and powertrains, and the second one is the new concept car, which will “brings mobility to a whole new level”, says Volkswagen.

SEE ALSO: 2016 Volkswagen up! Will Make its Global Premiere At Geneva Show

Here my interested grew, since the brand also confirmed that this “exciting concept car” will liven up the compact car class and will actually be a trendy and affordable SUV. In addition, this will be the beginning of a large SUV development and this concept will serve as an example of the “completely new model series”, meaning that it will showcase a brand new future production model.

    Volkswagen SUV Concept Second Teaser

Volkswagen also revealed that the new SUV operating concept doesn’t feature any switches. And with this fact it also states that the vehicle will create a conceptual bridge to the BUDD-e. Remember it? This is the one that debuted at the CES in Las Vegas. This is probably the way of Volkswagen to say sorry to those customers that felt deeply hurt by the “fumes-scandal”. And I bet that the SUV concept will also emit less emissions of CO2 and will be fuel efficient.

Furthermore, the German company also sent us three teaser pictures to show us glimpse of the way the concept looks. The front of the car for instance looks exactly like a production model, since there are LED headlights and LED DRLs. It will be obviously painted in yellow exterior paint scheme, but what’s interesting is that this color of the body will be combined with plastic cladding on the bumper and wheel arches. The SUV will be also riding on bi-colored alloys, which will probably be sized above 20-inches.

If we got your interest, stay tuned because Geneva Motor Show is coming near.

Another highlight is the infotainment system: this sweetie features the top of the line 9,2-inch touch screen, gesture control, Active Info Display and heads-up display.

    Exterior design

2016 Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active Concept

The second-generation Tiguan is based on the modular tansverse matrix and comes with the same long wheelbase, short overhangs and exceptional architecture. The Tiguan GTE Active Concept is 176 inches long, 74 inches wide, 69.5 inches tall and has a wheelbase length of 105.6 inches.

Some of the changes that were made on the concept is the include reshaped face, sturdy front skid plate, matte aluminum shield and redesigned front bumpers. At the rear and sides there are also special air intakers and along with the stadard LED headlights there are completely new C-Shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, which became a sort of signature mark for all Volkswagen hybrid models.

SEE ALSO: BUDD-e: Volkswagen’s Vision for the Near Future

The sides are marked by distinctive profiled off-road tires, Dark Graphite wheelarch extensions and sill protection, especially developed for this particular concept.

The lower area of the bumpers is protected by anthracite colored all-terrain trim and also, the vehicle has two additional solid aluminum-colored metal hooks for towing struck vehicles or for removing obstacles that block the trail.

    Interior design

2016 Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active Concept

The design team also paid special attention to the interior and more precisely, to the interior space. The trim strips of brushed dark aluminum that wrap around the instrument panel and door trim panels match the materials that are being used for the front and read underbody guards and roof components.

At the same time, the fine Dragon Red strips in the air vents frames repeat the color of the exterior paint, as well as the two-tone Nappa leather upholstery: the seats, armrests and door inserts are covered in bright Rhodium Grey and Dark Graphite.

    Drivetrain system

2016 Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active Concept

And all this paired to two electric motors. The first one produces a total of 54hp (42kW) and the second one 114hp (83kW) of additional power. This engine system is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

What is also interesting about the drivetrain system is that it offers differend driving modes that can switch to front-, rear- or all-wheel drive composition.

Other useful feature is the Regenerative braking: when the driver takes the foot off the accelerator pedal or brake and the batter is insufficiently charged, both electric motors start working as generators in order to feed the generated during braking energy to the battery. Smart, huh?

  • BUDD-e: Volkswagen’s Vision for the Near Future

2016 Volkswagen BUDD-e ConceptVolkswagen embraces new visions and approaches for the 2016 season. And one of the symbols of this change is the futuristic avant-garde van dubbed BUDD-e. This is a special machine, based on the contemporary Modular-Electric Platform (MEB), which is especially created for plug-in vehicles. And in fact, this is the first car that is based on MEB technology and indeed, there is much to be shown. So, let’s waste no more time and see what is going on here!

With BUDD-e, Volkswagen shows what would the electric vehicles look like by 2019. The new platform will enable series of production vehicles to have pure electric range and is on par with today’s gasoline-powered cars  by the end of the decade. Furthermore, BUDD-e is the first concept car that Volkswagen develops in order to fundamentally change the nature of electric cars.

The new platform is created to offer enough space for the electric drive components and large batteries, while at the same time there is plenty of interior space for passengers and luggage. In addition, MEB vehicles will also offer high levels of functionality and networking, thanks to this very same architecture. How cool is that?

    Exterior design

    2016 Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept

Inspired by the iconic Volkswagen vans, BUDD-e looks practical and clean, but at the same time demonstrates this distinctive innovative and futuristic spirit.

The front end is definitely a 100% Volkswagen. The area around the logo can be backlit by integrated LED modules in many different ways, while the distinctive LED headlights are placed high up and the integrated LED indicators further enhance the distinctive and yet familiar front.

    2016 Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept

As we talk about vehicle’s appearance, we must also mention that its silhouette is characterized by the flat and enlonged roof, long windows, 21-inch aluminum alloys, while the narrow LED stripe that goes along the sides serves as special ambient lightning and contributes to that unmistakable design.

The rear shows an aerodynamic design with glossy black D-pillars that reduce the aerodynamic drag and optimizes the rear downforce. We also notice the iconic large tailgate, LED taillights strips and an unique C-shaped LED signature surrounds.

SEE ALSO: Volkswagen Has Great Gifts for the Polo, Golf GT and R-Line, and Passat Models

    Interior styling

    2016 Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept

The interior of BUDD-e is defined by innovative machine interface. The design is super-clean and cozy, while the technical architecture of the infotainment system makes a quantum leap to the flip phones to smart phones or from analog to smart watches. With the new design, BUDD-e eliminates the distinction between electronic instrument cluster and the center console.

Of course, the idea behind the navigation panel to be rooted was realized with one thing in mind: driving.  Behind the panel is the 3D navigation map with graphics which becomes the matrix of an interactive human-machine interface.

All of BUDD-e’s components and systems are operated by gesture control, touch screen functions and of course, voice control. The driver can choose between numerous control modes as for example, the “Hello, BUDD-e” that activates the voice control function.

    2016 Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept

Also, similar to smart phones, there is a special menu tab that offers quick and easy access to key functions. They include opening and closing the hatch, sliding the door, playing music, viewing video and numerous more. The information about basic functions as climate control and seat heating can also be shown at the bottom of the display, where all the buttons rest.

Of course, this is not all. The special vehicle also includes a special multifunction steering wheel with countless options and functions. It even activates some of the features by pressure or swipe gestures. Also, it offers this interesting new pre-sensing feedback. How cool is that?
