  • OXIGIN Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI Clubsport is a piece of art

OXIGIN Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI Clubsport front and side viewVolkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is going to star in our news a lot today! The reason is that the special edition model is marking 40 years since it has first appeared on the market in 1976. Back then, the car was powered by a 1.6 litre fuel-injected engine producing 110 hp (81 kW). It might not look a lot now, but it was back then! The latest GTI Clubsport, which is also depicted in the article, is driven by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine sending a lusty 265 horsepower (195 kW) to the front wheels, with up to 290 hp (213 kW) on tap in short-term overboost.

Anyways. We are going to show you a simple project with incredibly beautiful pictures, made especially for those who admire not only Golf’s but also woman’s beauty. The project is made by the “wheels specialists” at OXIGIN. Here are the details.

SEE ALSO: Anniversary Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport Celebrates the Spirit of GTI in Frankfurt

The Clubsport has some serious styling cues: check out the black trim on its bumpers, the tartan checked sports seat inserts, the red topstitching, and its golf ball gearknob. All of these distinctive features were inspired by its ancestor.

OXIGIN Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI Clubsport side view

To make the car even more individual, the experts at OXIGIN decided to add a set of 8.5×19-inch OXIGIN 20 Attraction alloy wheels wrapped in red and white foil (by hand) over gloss black. Next on the list was the addition of KW Clubsport coilover suspension with variable front top mounts.

For the best look, the specialists at Wrap Carstyles stepped in. They have applied a digitally printed and red and black color-coded foil design to give the impression the bodywork has been scratched by huge claws. At last but not least, in order to lower exhaust backpressure, Schalk-Tuning fitted a Bull X-Downpipe with 200-cell HJS catalyst and a Remus sports exhaust system.

The result is a unique, isn’t it? Any thoughts on the image gallery?

  • Tiny car with great hidden potential: meet WIMMER RS Volkswagen Polo WRC

WIMMER RS Volkswagen Polo WRC front viewWIMMER RS Volkswagen Polo WRC is one little car with enormous potential. One can hardly imagine that this tiny beasty can reach the heights of developing 420 horsepower. Does this mean that size does not matter when it comes to engine power boost? In this case we are pretty positive, but still there might be many out there who are on the opposite opinion. So, let’s see what caught our attention in this project.

We must admit that the original Volkswagen Polo R WRC, on which the tuning is based, is already an impressive “rally” car. Since WIMMER RS has broad experience in modifications, it has chosen only road-approved components. They will ensure high functional reliability and longevity.

SEE ALSO: You Have to See the KTM X-Bow GT Black Edition Before You Watch the New Batman Movie!

To make a good comparison, we have to discuss the initial data of the engine. Under the hood of the Polo is the 2.0 liter unit with the capability of producing 220 HP (162 kW) and 475 Nm (350 ft-lb) of torque. It has 6,02 kg/HP power to weight ratio and achieves 243 km/h of maximum speed.

WIMMER RS Volkswagen Polo WRC Rear View

To uprate the performance characteristics of the car, the tuners created level IV package. It includes the upgrade of the turbocharger, an adjusted air intake, a 6-bar-fuel-pump, a modified high-pressure pump, a Y-pipe with sport catalytic, an internal stainless steel sports exhaust system including valve control, an intercooler and an optimized software.

The result is impressive: the Polo comes around with 420 HP (309 kW) and 650 Nm (480 ft-lb) of torque, 3,15 kg/HP power to weight ratio and breath-taking Vmax of 280 km/h! To make everything more harmonious with the new output figures, WIMMER Rennsporttechnik also installed more efficient high-performance K&N air filter, a set of stylish 8×17 OZ-rims with 215/40-17 tires and a KW-coilover suspension.

  • Is the family car Volkswagen Passat B8 ready to tackle any performance challenge?

Wetterauer Engineering Volkswagen Passat B8 front viewWetterauer Engineering is a tuning company from Germany, which has been out there since 1973. If you haven’t heard about it, we have a great example of their work, which involves a Volkswagen Passat, powered by the 2.0 TDI 4Motion engine, delivering a stock output of 240 horsepower. Well, this is a pretty nice basis, but the tuners have done their work pretty good.

Although, the VW Passat has the reputation of a spacious family car, suitable for covering long distances, without sacrificing the comfort, this conversion is for those looking to bring out more from their Passat. The means? Chip tuning of course!

SEE ALSO: Volkswagen Premieres the Hybrid SUV of the Future!

There are two stages prepared for the Passat B8. The first one delivers an impressive final output of 272 hp (200 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. This is an addition of 32 hp and 80 Nm over the production numbers.

Wetterauer Engineering Volkswagen Passat B8 Engine

For those seeking more extreme heights, Wetterauer Engineering created the Stage two, which adds to the 240 hp an addition of 60 hp and 100 Nm, making it up to a total of 300 hp (221 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of maximum torque.

The tuning company has also assured us that the other Passat model could be uprated. For instance, the less powerful 2.0-liter TDI with 150 hp variant now makes 185 hp and 400 Nm, while the 190 hp version is boosted to 220 hp and 460 Nm of torque.

But to go back to the current tuning, we see that the looks of this particular car has been changed. To bring the handling and visual appearance to the same level as the newfound performance, Wetterauer Engineering mounted a set of H&R lowering springs. The more dynamic stance is further complemented by a set of 20-inch Tomason TN16 turbine design alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35ZR20 Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires.

  • Volkswagen Premieres the Hybrid SUV of the Future!

Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE front viewVolkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE is the strongly teased and highly anticipated vehicle, which has just made its Beijing debut today. If you remember well the last information revealed, this concept previews the future of Volkswagen’s sport utility vehicles. Powered by a plug in powertrain that drives all four wheels, this SUV is a step forward in brand’s more eco-minded future.

In addition, VW is also debuting here the new Curved Interaction Area: this is an entirely new digital display and control concept, which merges the innovative curved infotainment display with the interactive displays and controls. As a result, there is a brand new human-machine interface (HMI).

SEE ALSO: Volkswagen Teases Hybrid SUV Concept Ahead of Premiere in Beijing

Comfortable, spacious, with excellent traction of an off-road vehicle and the agility of a sport sedan, T-Prime Concept GTE simply combines everything that one might need in a vehicle. Here are the details.

    Exterior

Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE rear view

Starting-off with the exterior, here are some exiting facts about this concept. First, the design is an example of the Volkswagen SUV of the modern days. For instance, there is the chrome radiator grille that extends across the entire width of the front end and integrates the LED headlights. Besides the impressive front of the vehicle, another identifying feature is the opposing window and character lines, where the window line begins in the hood and ends in the side window of the D-pillar at the rear. On the other hand, the character line, begins in the rear lights, slices through the rear wheel arches with a razor-sharp undercut and ends in the front wing.

Volkswagen has revealed that the T-Prime Concept GTE has been based on the modular longitudinal platform (MLB); meaning that it is 199.6 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 67.2 inches tall. We also see the typical for all Volkswagen plug-in hybrid and EVs C-shaped Daytime Running Lights in the front bumper. The large wheel arches are filled out with huge 22-inch alloys and 285/40 tires.

    Interior

    Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE Interior

The expressive exterior invites us to look include. The cabin is sporty and stylish, and features many technology innovations. A lot of materials have been used: from aluminum used for the surrounds and door handles, through the blue leather for the upper part of dashboard, door panels, steering wheel rim, to the glossy-black surfaces of the wing-shaped front side of dashboard, center console, door accents and multifunction switch arrays on steering wheel. Wood accents are making great contrasts, and they are seen around the dashboard and doors, propshaft tunnel trim.

The best thing about the T-Prime Concept GTE is that it completely forgoes the conventional switches, with the exception of the steering wheel stalks. This means that all controls are implemented as touch-sensitive surfaces with white backlighting. As mentioned there is the innovative Active Info Display which simply is digitalized instruments and the infotainment display combined together. It is positioned under a glass surface and forms the newly developed Curved Interaction Area. By the way it is an example how the cockpit of the future Volkswagens would look like as early as 2017.

The new Active Info Display has a 12.0-inch screen where all important vehicle information is shown. The curved home screen is sized 15.0-inch and can be configured by the driver or front passenger. Another revolutionary feature of the T-Prime Concept GTE includes “by wire” control of the gear shift unit for the 8-speed automatic gearbox on the center console. In addition, the multifunction steering wheel comes without switches, because the individual functions are activated by pressure or with a swipe gesture.

To make a tribute to the Chinese lifestyle, (after all the premiere is in Beijing) the color and materials of the T-Prime Concept GTE are based on water, earth, wood, metal, and fire. These five elements have been inseparably intertwined. For instance, water is expressed via the petrol-blue body paint color “Beihai Blue”, “Xirallic” and “Ipanema Blue”.

The earth is a solid element that brings everything into balance, and leather and Alcantara in the light-grey contrasting color “Mistral”, and the wood accents in “Walnut Trunk”. The metal can be found in the polished and satin aluminum accents. At last, fire is envisioned through the leather piping on the seats in the color “Himalayan Brown.”

    Powertrain

    Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE powertrain

Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE is driven by a 375 horsepower (276 kW) plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It includes electric motor, turbocharged gas engine, and battery, which can charge externally or during the drive. In the silent electric E-Mode, it permits up to 31 miles of zero-emission driving in metropolitan areas. Housing an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine producing 248 hp and 273 lb-ft, as well as an electric motor which develops a power of 134 hp and a maximum torque of 258 lb-ft, the full system power impresses with a total output of 375 hp and 516 lb-ft of system torque. This force is driving all four wheels.

In hybrid operation, the fuel consumption has been measured 29 mpg, while the combined fuel consumption in the NEDC cycle for plug-in hybrid models is 87 mpg. In GTE mode, the T-Prime Concept GTE accelerates to 60 in 6.0 seconds and has a top speed of 139 mph. And if you ask about the recharging, the concept is fully charged after just two hours and 30 minutes.

That’s a nice step in Volkswagen’s bright hybrid future! We are hopeful.

  • BBM Motorsport Releases Video of 815 HP Volkswagen Golf Gen One During Dyno Testing

BBM Motorsport Volkswagen Golf 1 Dyno Testing BBM Motorsport is lately gathering strength and releasing in a row so nice projects that we just can’t keep our hands off the keyboard and not writing a word about them. Just like the last project, the heavily uprated Chevy Corvette C7 Z06, the tuners optimized a Volkswagen Golf (note!) from the first generation to the unimaginable 815 horsepower. But this is not all! They have captured a dyno session with it on a video, which you are lucky to watch below.

As we all know (being fans of the tuning world), the after market proof of power before and after modification is a vital part of the development and testing process. In this particular case it is carried out on BBM’s chassis dynamometer, which is capable of measuring outputs of up to 2,000 hp and top speed of up to 320 km/h.

BBM Motorsport Volkswagen Golf 1 Engine

Extremely unusual about this project is that BBM typically converts exotic or classic cars. The case with this Volkswagen however, is that it is what they call a “genuine sleeper”, because it eventually demonstrates its unexpected power potential.

The DMK Motoring VW Golf 1 is driven by the 2.0-liter 16V engine, which the BBM dynamometer has credited with 815 hp! Everything was captured on film, with the incredible demonstration by the BBM Motorsport video crew, who has the task to document the daily work of BBM Motorsport and their visits to events and track days in moving pictures.
