  • BMW E92 M3 ESS vs Mercedes SL 65 AMG, Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R [HD video]

    Here is another great drag race battle between several ultra-fast sports cars – BMW M3 E92 ESS VT2-650 with 700HP, Porsche 911 Turbo 997 with 530HP, Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG PP-Performance Stage 2 with 750HP and mighty Nissan GT-R Mk.1 Sportec Stage 2 with 600HP.

The BMW meets all its opponents at incredibly slippery surface, so it had huge problems with the traction.

In the first start the M3 E92 met the 911 Turbo. The BMW crossed the 1 mile mark with 282 km/h and time of 30.942 seconds, but that wasn’t enough fast to beat the underpowered Porsche, which won with 30.024 seconds and terminal speed of just 271 km/h.

In the second start, the BMW went against the 6.0 liter bi-turbo Mercedes, which also had problems with the traction, but managed to beat the M3 with a small lead. The SL65 AMG crossed the finish line at 30.372 seconds time with 290 km/h.

In the final start, another M3 with the same tuning package, but a saloon version (E90) didn’t stand a chance against a brutal Nissan GT-R with 600HP. The GT-R made incredible time of 28.542 seconds, which is more than 2 seconds faster than the BMW.

  • Porsche Carrera GT with straight pipes = BRUTAL Sound! [HD video]

Here is a nice video by Marchettino, who filmed a modified Carrera GT. This supercar from Porsche comes with extremely loud straight pipes exhaust system. There are some very interesting moments including full throttle accelerations and high speed flybys.

This particular Carrera GT has Stage 3 package by EDO Competition including a huge rear wing, a performance package, suspension upgrade, high-performance brake pads and 6-point harness.

Porsche Carrera GT was introduced back in 2003, but it remains one of the most powerful and fast cars in the world. It has a 5.7 liter naturally aspirated V10 with 612HP (450 kW) at 8000RPM and 590Nm (435 lb-ft) of torque at 5750RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

However, the EDO Competition Carrera GT boasts 770HP and 690Nm. 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of whopping 365 km/h (227 mph). The curb weight remains the same – just 1380 kg.

Carrera GT rolls enormous 9.5J x 19” rims at the front with 265/35 ZR20 tires and 12.5J x 20” at the rear with 335/30 ZR20.

Enjoy the video and turn up the volume!

The Hofele body kit parts are simply fitted at the original fixing points or glued onto the car without any changes and can be used for all Cayenne models, including the Turbo model.

The interior boasts elegant two-tone “StarLight” leather seats with quilted accents and Hofele logos on the headrests.

  • Porsche Boxster Arrives in UK Showrooms

Porsche-Boxster-S-showroom-thumbThe Porsche Boxster hits the showrooms in the UK. Prices will start at £37,589 which means that it still will be the cheapest Porsche around and, because of it’s new profile, it will be more accessible as well. By accessible, I mean more appealing to men as well. Let’s be frank. Up until now, women have been the most common sight behind the wheel of a Boxster roadster.

Some highlights: two flat-six engines with direct injection and a recalibrated chassis. It’s 35 kg lighter than the old one and has a 60 mm longer wheelbase (shorter overhangs nevertheless). The front and rear axles are wider and the tires on them are larger. Reports come in that the new Boxster S can lap the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 7:58 minutes – that’s a 12 second improvement over the old one. Take that and the fact that the interior is partly inspired by the Carrera GT and you’ll get why I think it will be now more appealing to men – it’s more aggressive, sleek and quite frankly bad (in the good sense).

Aggressive and bad are also the drive trains. Fort the Boxster – a downsized (used to be 2.9) 2.7-liter horizontally opposed engine develops 265 hp. That’s 10 more from the old one. The Boxster S (from £45,384) gets 315 hp from it’s 3.4-liter engine. By default, both of these cars will come with a manual six-speed gear box. Optionally, you can get the seven-speed dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (if you can say this out loud, you get it complementary … not). If you opt for that however, plus the Sport Chrono package, the Porsche Boxster can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds while the Boxster S does that in 4.8 seconds. In return, with that setup, you get 36.7mpg, and CO2 emissions of 180g/km from the Boxster and 35.3mpg and 188g/km of CO2 from the S.

Standard equipment for the base Porsche includes in Alcantara interior, 18” alloy wheels, Auto stop/start and Sports mode, remote control hood operation, audio CD with 7-inch colour touch-screen control, a universal audio interface offering MP3 connectivity and a three year warranty.

The Boxster S has 19-inch instead of 18-inch wheels, “partial” leather interior and Bi-Xenon headlights.

The brand will finally unveil the second-generation Cayenne GTS at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in just two weeks. The popular SUV’s design is based on the Cayenne S. However this new model comes with 20 additional horsepower, a 20 mm lower ride height and a lower final drive ratio which equals improved driving dynamics.

  • Porsche 911 – Best Performance Car of 2012

2012-Porsche-911-Carrera-thumbA bit of trivia from the New York International Auto Show: the Porsche 911, the seventh one, has been named the 2012 World Performance Car. The news came at a press conference held by Bridgestone Corporation. There were other 33 contenders involved.

This annual award is usually presented after a careful assessment of the participants by 66 top-level automotive journalists from 25 countries around the world A.K.A an international jury. Each juror is typycally experienced in test driving, reviewing and evaluating outgoing models and are quite renown for it basically.

“We are honored that the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors as the 2012 World Performance Car,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “For just the seventh time in almost 50 years the iconic 911 has been revised to the point of being a new-generation, and winning this award from a global team of world-class journalists is excellent validation for the work and dedication of everyone at Porsche.”

The 2012 Porsche 911 is naturally, longer, wider, lower, more powerful and more efficient than its predecessor. Two variations of it deliver different amounts of power – the Carrera’s 3.5-liter boxer engine leaves you with 350 hp while the Carrera S gets 400 hp from its 3.8-liter unit. The choice of transmission for both cars, leaves you with two options – A seven-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed dual-clutch Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) automatic. With the latter one, the Carrera gets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds while the S needs only 3.9 seconds.

The interior is mainly driver oriented – no distractions and no needless features. Well, there is a radio. Leg room is now up the priority ladder as well and the center console is elevated so that its on an easy reach distance from the driver.

The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the 2012 Carrera stands at $82,100 and for the S is $96,400 (base models, $950 destination charge not included)

P.S. – News about this latest award come shortly after the passing of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – a mournful day for the automotive industry. Grandson of Porsche’s found, Prof. Ferdinand was head of the Porsche design studio in the early sixties when and where the iconic profile of the 911 was born. At the time of his death he was 76 but his contribution to the world is to remain timeless. Our hearts go out to his friends and relatives.

  • SpeedART SP91-R Porsche 991 Carrera

SpeedArt-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbNews from the German tuner house SpeedART. It’s an update on their SP91-R project. As we all know by now, the subject is the latest 911/991 Carrera S (Porsche is sort of their turf) – fresh yet grunty, slippery and stylish it has all there is to have when it comes to performance customization.

When it comes to power, ECU upgrades and calibration are to be available for both the Carrera and Carrera S engines – that means a projected power increase of 25 hp and 20 Nm. On the other hand. the sport exhaust system, complete with sport-catalysts and manifolds, seems to do the trick. One can fit an optional sound switch function so that, at the very least, people can be fooled into thinking that 911 is even meaner and leaner. The tailpipes come in several different versions so that the owner is presented with as much flexibility of choice as possible. Hardcore enthusiasts will most definitely prefer the Titanium sport exhaust system which reduces the overall weight.

The suspension can be both street or racetrack friendly. It will harbour sports springs and sports absorbers with adjustable rebound and height. A separate air-lift module on the other hand will provide some clearance for that dragging SP91-R body kit when passing over a speed hump.

Yes, there will be a full body overhaul – front lip spoilers, diffusers, side skirts, rear wings… the lot. Everything is made to fit perfectly and seamlessly to the standard mounts.

For a complete look, the Carrera rolls on a set of specially designed modular LSC- FORGED 21-inch wheels – again light and agile, great for the overall performance.

Inside, what e find particularity fresh is the lime shades. The blue, contrasting stitching and the diamond patterns it forms, might be a bit too much but everything else is spot on – leather/Alcantra on the seats, dashboard etc. It’s a keeper.

  • Kahn Porsche Cayenne Wide Track

Kahn-Porsche-Cayenne-thumbIntroducing the latest product coming from Afzal Kahn – the Porsche Cayenne wide track edition. It’s called that way because of its…erm….width. It’s got some new body panels, exhaust pipes and some wheels.

First off we have these flaring front and rear wheel arches that have vents in them. LED lining for the front vents, a boot lid spoiler at the back, carbon fiber inserts on the front bumper and red brake calipers. For some extra flash, there’s an LED bed under the chassis that illuminates the road bellow.

The suspension hasn’t been left behind either – sports springs combined with 22” Kahn RS600 wheels achieve a meaner, leaner look for the Cayenne at the very least. As a rounding detail, a Kahn stainless steel quad exhaust system is added.

Inside a blend of quilted claret and perforated leather greets the passengers. The driver gazes at the speedometer and rev counter which are in contrasting red and cream and is engulfed by the Kahn style. As usual, choice is what makes the project so desirable. Everything can and will be custom made to fit the needs of picky customers.

This particular fashion statement is available for $123,805.
