  • Kahn Porsche 911 with Wide Body Styling Package is Coming Soon

Kahn-Porsche-911-Wide-Body-THUMBKahn-Porsche-911-Wide-BodyKahn Porsche 911 is going t be equipped with Kahn’s unique Wide Body Styling Package. The car vehicle is not ready yet, but the designer promises it is set to be revealed very soon.

This Porsche model is definitely a car which has left its imprint on the automotive world. However, the aim of the tuners is to deliver more evolved version of the current one and to excite more Porsche enthusiasts. And they definitely will!

Afzal Kahn himself said that the car will retain its classic look but will add more adventurous spirit: “We believe all Porsche 911’s and 991’s should look like this,” he adds.

Kahn Porsche 911 Wide Body is set to release in the coming weeks ahead. Then we are to be delighted to see the car equipped with a wide arch kit including front and rear wide track arches, front and rear sections, the Kahn cross hair exhaust system and the unique paint job.

Of course, a tuning that carries the name Kahn, cannot go without the transformation of the interior. Inside will be of course the bespoke touch, but no other details are left in secret for now.

In addition, the 911 will run on Kahn Monza wheels, perfectly conveying its essence. With simple clean lines, soft organic surfaces on the edge of the spoke and a purposeful mechanical centre, the Monza wheels are synonymous with elegance and innovation.

What’s left is only to add that we are eagerly looking forward to the completion and release of this project!

  • Oxigen Add Color to 14 Oxrock Line

Oxigin-14-Oxrock-thumbLet’s talk about wrapping again. Apparently a fairly popular marque of wheels can now come with certain candy shades. It’s the 14 Oxrock line from Oxigin – the Esslingen, Germany based manufacturer.

All Oxigin 14 alloy wheels can have some high-grade foil applied to them and the colour spectrum is immense. Leather based foils are also available. Also, unless you like to grind curbs on a daily basis, the wrapping should last and should not fade.

Oxigen even have a sample car for us which is a Porsche 911 with an appropriately coordinated theme that matches the wheels. We personally wouldn’t go for the baby blue (red on black is our weakness) but the end effect is satisfying.

The Oxigin 14 Oxrock can be supplied in the following dimensions:

    • 7.5×17 inches
    • 8.5×18 inches
    • 8.5×19 inches
    • 9.5×19 inches
    • 8.5×20 inches
    • 9.5×20 inches
    • 11×20 inches
    • 10×22 inches

You’ll get some documentation as well – ABE or TÜV. Quality stuff.

  • Porsche Exclusive 911 Carrera S

Porsche-Exclusve-911-Carrera-S-thumbAftermarket enhancements is what most tuning houses do, no question about it. If one seeks to extract something extra from his/hers Porsche, the logical thing to do is contacting the people from SpeedART, TECHART, 9ff or even RUF. Now though, you can turn to Porsche Exclusive… if you happen to have a Porsche 911 Carrera S. They will be more than happy to provide some extra oomph for the engine with their ‘Porsche Exclusive Program.’

With that in place, your Carrera S will have 450 bhp instead of 400. A Coupe with that kind of power and a PDK transmission on Sport Plus mode can do 60 mph from a stand still in just 3.9 seconds. Surprisingly however, the Carrera’s economy figure remains unchanged.

How they have achieved this is beyond us. No, wait. It’s not. The cylinder heads have been redesigned and so have been the camshaft profiles. The engine now breathes better and thus allows some tinkering with the management system. The Exclusive Carreras will sound right as well thanks to the new variable resonance intake system design that has seven flaps in total.

We get some visual alterations as well. The level of “kitting” will be fairly flexible – one can go for the subtle ducktail spoiler or go all the way to the Aerokit Cup package where there’s a fixed rear wing over the standard rear spoiler and a special front spoiler lip with more vents then ever.

The Exclusive Program will be available in the USA this fall. It will be specifically made for the Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe or Cabriolet and you’ll get a ton of other options as well.

  • Nakai-San from Rauh Welt Begriff: thoughts on the creative process [VIDEO]

If you hear for the first time the name Nikai-San or are unfamiliar with Rauh Welt Begriff (RWB), then it is time to be introduced with a bit more information about this amazing Japan-based Porsche tuner.

Basically RWB has combined Japanese and Euro tuning elements, with the only aim – to create uniqueness. In particular, Nikai-San puts this philosophy into practice and creates the distinct RWB style for Porsche chassis. And the Porsches created are one-of-a-kind and belong to the sole customer.Back in the days, RWB has started off as a small countryside body-shop in Chiba-Ken.

Nevertheless RAUH-Welt 911’s can now be commonly seen on both the streets and racing circuits of Japan. This wonderful interview made by eGarage.com, delivers more information about the tuning process, what is the main source of inspiration, and more importantly, Nikai-San speaks about it himself!

  • Honda NSX Twin Turbo vs Porsche 911 Turbo S [HD video]

“Power is nothing without control”, this is very popular phrase in the world of motorsport and especially in drag racing, where the highly tuned cars have to be driven extremely carefully in order to get maximum traction and perfect times.

In this video by Dragtimesinfo, you’ll see a Honda NSX Twin Turbo prepared by Total Race with 700HP versus Porsche 911 Turbo S (997) Mk.2 Stock with just 530HP. However, the Porsche made a perfect start and set a terminal speed of 282.74 km/h in the first, which was more than enough to beat the mighty Honda.

In the second start, the NSX also had huge troubles with the launch, but after that it managed to get the needed traction and won.

  • Porsche 911 – Best Performance Car of 2012

2012-Porsche-911-Carrera-thumbA bit of trivia from the New York International Auto Show: the Porsche 911, the seventh one, has been named the 2012 World Performance Car. The news came at a press conference held by Bridgestone Corporation. There were other 33 contenders involved.

This annual award is usually presented after a careful assessment of the participants by 66 top-level automotive journalists from 25 countries around the world A.K.A an international jury. Each juror is typycally experienced in test driving, reviewing and evaluating outgoing models and are quite renown for it basically.

“We are honored that the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors as the 2012 World Performance Car,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “For just the seventh time in almost 50 years the iconic 911 has been revised to the point of being a new-generation, and winning this award from a global team of world-class journalists is excellent validation for the work and dedication of everyone at Porsche.”

The 2012 Porsche 911 is naturally, longer, wider, lower, more powerful and more efficient than its predecessor. Two variations of it deliver different amounts of power – the Carrera’s 3.5-liter boxer engine leaves you with 350 hp while the Carrera S gets 400 hp from its 3.8-liter unit. The choice of transmission for both cars, leaves you with two options – A seven-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed dual-clutch Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) automatic. With the latter one, the Carrera gets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds while the S needs only 3.9 seconds.

The interior is mainly driver oriented – no distractions and no needless features. Well, there is a radio. Leg room is now up the priority ladder as well and the center console is elevated so that its on an easy reach distance from the driver.

The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the 2012 Carrera stands at $82,100 and for the S is $96,400 (base models, $950 destination charge not included)

P.S. – News about this latest award come shortly after the passing of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – a mournful day for the automotive industry. Grandson of Porsche’s found, Prof. Ferdinand was head of the Porsche design studio in the early sixties when and where the iconic profile of the 911 was born. At the time of his death he was 76 but his contribution to the world is to remain timeless. Our hearts go out to his friends and relatives.

  • SpeedART SP91-R Porsche 991 Carrera

SpeedArt-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbNews from the German tuner house SpeedART. It’s an update on their SP91-R project. As we all know by now, the subject is the latest 911/991 Carrera S (Porsche is sort of their turf) – fresh yet grunty, slippery and stylish it has all there is to have when it comes to performance customization.

When it comes to power, ECU upgrades and calibration are to be available for both the Carrera and Carrera S engines – that means a projected power increase of 25 hp and 20 Nm. On the other hand. the sport exhaust system, complete with sport-catalysts and manifolds, seems to do the trick. One can fit an optional sound switch function so that, at the very least, people can be fooled into thinking that 911 is even meaner and leaner. The tailpipes come in several different versions so that the owner is presented with as much flexibility of choice as possible. Hardcore enthusiasts will most definitely prefer the Titanium sport exhaust system which reduces the overall weight.

The suspension can be both street or racetrack friendly. It will harbour sports springs and sports absorbers with adjustable rebound and height. A separate air-lift module on the other hand will provide some clearance for that dragging SP91-R body kit when passing over a speed hump.

Yes, there will be a full body overhaul – front lip spoilers, diffusers, side skirts, rear wings… the lot. Everything is made to fit perfectly and seamlessly to the standard mounts.

For a complete look, the Carrera rolls on a set of specially designed modular LSC- FORGED 21-inch wheels – again light and agile, great for the overall performance.

Inside, what e find particularity fresh is the lime shades. The blue, contrasting stitching and the diamond patterns it forms, might be a bit too much but everything else is spot on – leather/Alcantra on the seats, dashboard etc. It’s a keeper.

  • Jeep SRT-8 vs Mustang, 911 Turbo, Cayenne and X6M

Here are several starts of a brutal Jeep Cherokee SRT-8 Supercharged with 700HP against some powerful, tuned vehicles – BMW X6M Hamann Stage 2 670HP, Porsche Cayenne Turbo Gemballa GT600 with 600HP, Ford Mustang GT500 612hp and Porsche 911 Turbo Stage 2 580HP.

As you can see, all these SAVs and cars are underpowered, but as we know – power is nothing without control. Although the BMW starts first with reaction time of only 0.310 seconds, it is quickly overtaken by the Jeep. The X6 M crosses the finish line with 248.31 km/h terminal speed against 246.74 km/h for the Cherokee.

In the second start versus the Cayenne Turbo the scenario is the same. Better reaction from the Porsche driver, but worse 60ft and overall performance – 236.43 km/h at 1 mile for the Cayenne and 262.49 km/h for the Cherokee.

The third start is versus the mighty Mustang having 612 HP, a lot less weight and way better cD (drag coefficient). At the start the Mustang is dominated, because it is RWD against the AWD in Cherokee. The Mustang’s 60ft time is bad – 2.198 seconds against just 1.699 seconds for the Cherokee. However, the car crosses the finish line with 284.27 km/h, which is more than enough for a win.

In the last start, the Cherokee is against Porsche 911 Turbo with 580HP. The SUV didn’t have any difficulties, because it started first, with better 60 ft time and overall performance – 260.05 km/h and 29.820 seconds at 1 mile.

  • Porsche at 2012 Techno Classica

Porsche will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic 911 RS 2.7 at Techno Classica, in Essen, Germany, from March 21-25.

Techno Classica is the world’s largest trade fair dedicated to classic cars, and this year’s event will see Porsche Classic showcase its wide range of customer services on a stand more than twice as large as last year’s.

To mark the occasion, two racing versions of the 911 Carrera RS from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart are on display. The first is a 1973 911 Carrera RSR delivering 330HP, which is joined by the ultimate RS variant, the 1974 911 Carrera RSR Turbo. It produces 500HP from a small 2.1 liter turbocharged flat-six engine.

The RS-themed display is completed by a 911 Carrera RS 2.7 road car, which has been restored by the Porsche Classic workshop specialists. Also on show is an early Porsche 911, which is currently being restored for a customer at Porsche Classic.

Experts from Porsche Classic will be on hand to provide advice and practical assistance to visitors regarding the preservation and maintenance of their historic vehicles. They will also provide information on the availability of Porsche Classic original spare parts. Especially noteworthy, for example, is the coveted “orange” Porsche bonnet badge of the 911 models from 1965 to 1973, which has been not been available since 1974. In 2012, this will be re-released once more.

Together with a Porsche Museum information stand, Porsche Exclusive & Tequipment will also be represented on the spacious 600 plus square metre stand. A custom-equipped 911 Carrera of the current 991 model series is being used to showcase the comprehensive personalisation options.

Porsche Design Driver’s Selection rounds off the varied offering on the Porsche stand with a wide selection of Porsche.

  • Vorsteiner V-RT 911 Twin Turbo Cabriolet

Vorsteiner-VR-T-Porsche-911-thumbLately, a lot of Vorsteiner dealers tend to showcase exotic cars with kits and wheels from the source. This one is from Wheels Boutique in Florida. Vorsteiner VR-T components expose themselves here and there on this Porsche 911 Twin Turbo Cabriolet.

The VR-T line front bumper seems just about right for the job. It houses bigger carbon fiber air intakes and throws away the factory fog lights and headlight washer bezzles. The VR-T rear bumper works on the wide aspects of the Porsche – the flaring side vents also benefit the intercooler. The back end also gets a molded carbon diffuser with twin fins and enough space for the quad sport exhaust tips. For the overall complete feel, a VR-T rear deck lid and wing had to be heavily modified to fit on the convertible version.

At the end of the day, we have a perfectly decent roadster with a bit of character added that is ready to take you out under the blazing sun Florida. Hope it comes with sunscreen as well.
