  • TECHART Individualization for the new Porsche 911

With the official launch of the new Porsche 911 in December, TECHART offers first individualization options for the sports car. A refinement program for the exterior and interior as well as the TECHART light alloy forged wheels give the customer countless possibilities to give the car a unique character.

The TECHART styling packages for the exterior give the sporty and elegant design of the Porsche 911 a quite personal note. Trims, painted in custom colour or in carbon-fibre, make the sports car an individual piece. A clear statement of sportiness: the TECHART Formula III forged light alloy wheel in 20- and 21-inch size, available colours are Sterling Silver and individual paint with five dynamically shaped twin-spokes. The particularly low weight and the significantly reduced unsprung masses directly result in an enhanced driving performance of the new Porsche 911.

The TECHART interior individualization offers a number of refining options to give the car the unique character of its driver: from the high-quality all-leather interior with decorative stitching to elegant styling optic packages made in carbon-fibre or in an individual colour. A maximum of driving pleasure plus quick shifting and perfect handling of the new Porsche 911 enable the TECHART 3-spoke sport steering wheels with the TECHART paddle shifters.

  • Porsche 911 (991) 7-speed manual layout – first looks

When Porsche released the information about their new 7-speed manual gearbox, which they are introducing with the long-awaited 911 replacement, reactions were pretty much split between disbelief and annoyance. After all, in many cases even 6 speeds could be a handful and, in a car of the 911’s breed, it is kind of important to be able to work the shifter with the same ease you slice through mom’s freshly-baked pie.

Therefore, initially there was disbelief, which grew into concern about the usability of a seven-speed manual in a car traditionally touted for its German practicality, utilitarianism, and efficiency. Still, Porsche have moved ahead with their production plans and we are about to see the official presentation of the newest 911 at the Frankfurt Auto Show (September 15-30, 2011). Shortly before, however, we are finally able to see the shifting layout of the transmission, which the guys at CarEnvy.ca have posted on their Facebook page.

    Porsche 911: 7-speed manual layout

Judging by the picture, using the shifter would not be an issue, at least for those who managed just fine with its 6-speed predecessor in the current model generation. Seventh gear is ‘squeezed in’ just beside sixth, which does not change anything about the layout of the other gears – no surprises for Porsche drivers. In addition, Porsche’s claim has been that the top gear is added with the sole purpose of reducing engine noise and fuel consumption and is to be used only on occasions, such as leisurely cruising, so this should happen rarely enough.

All of this is supposed to do away with the practicality/efficiency doubts. In fact, Porsche estimates that the 991 (as is the factory designation of this 911 generation) should be around 15% more fuel efficient than the current car, which is already extremely frugal by supercar standards. Of course, we will have to wait and see the official unveiling of the new 911, in order to be sure, but so far it appears that more is still better.

  • Free inspection for Porsche Cabriolet models

Porsche has announced a special complimentary vehicle inspection on June 4 at participating Porsche Centres nationwide. The manufacturer will celebrate the start of the summer holiday season with this service, which will help ensure all Porsche cabriolet owners maximise their open-air driving pleasure.

All Porsche cabriolets are welcome, whatever their model or age. The service will include all cars from a 356 Speedster, a 1994 968 Cabriolet, or the latest Boxster Spyder or 911 Turbo Cabriolet.

The national Porsche Cabriolet and Roadster Service Clinic will inspect the cars for free. Furthermore, the owners will also get the chance to attend a workshop at their local Porsche Centre together with their technician. These Service Clinics will also provide customers with information and advice to ensure that the operation of the hood folding mechanism is correct and that the roof remains wind and weather-proof. Other checks will ensure the expected safety, reliability, and performance levels of their cars are maintained.

The Service Clinics will be conducted one week before the Le Mans 24 Hours race in France.

The idea is simply great, because many of the drivers don’t have enough time and resources to make a full inspection of their vehicles.
