  • A Volkswagen Golf for the Summer by Schmidt

Schmidt-VW-Golf-GTI-Convertible-thumbWhen we heard that Schmidt Revolution are bringing out yet another Golf, we got excited. It was only after when we realized that the “programme” comprised solely of a set of wheels and a fancy audio system. The upside of the story is that, since the programme is just that, all Golfs are eligible to it. We were pleased to find out that Schmidt’s weapon of choice was a Volkswagen Golf Mk 6 Convertible GTI.

That means 210 hp coming from a 2.0-liter TSI engine which in turn uses a PDK transmission to channel that force to the wheels. This is where Schmidt made their move. The Golf here in the pictures has 8.5Jx19H2 Shift design wheels that boast 45 mm of positive offset. The color: gloss silver. Tires: Conti Sport Contact 5 sized 235/35R19. One however, can go a tad less conspicuous with the 8Jx18H2 version of the same wheels or even the 7,5x17H2 ones.

That leaves us with the B&S Sound system with Rockford Fosgate- and Mosconi-components, a foot-mounted subwoofer and the Kenwood DNX521DAB navigation which is as sophisticated as the Starship Enterprise.

So there you have it. The Schmidt Revolution Volkswagen Golf GTI Convertible – not a lot of work done but then again, not a lot of work needed to be done in order to end up with a genuinely good car.

  • How to find the perfect offer for a used car?

Volkswagen is one of the biggest car manufacturer in the world. The brand is owned by VAG, which also has Porsche, Audi and some more. One of the best-selling vehicles in the 20th century is Volkswagen Beetle followed by all series of VW Golf, which has been run since 1974. Until now, there are six series of the legendary Golf model with hundreds different sub-models and engines.

The used car market is huge and nowadays people always search for the best offer – low mileage car with a lot of extras and good condition. One of the good opportunities is to search for a volkswagen. They have a huge database with up to date offers, so the customers are able to choose carefully and to find the best possible car, which will suit to their needs.

Of course, Volkswagen and especially the Golf V model is a very good choice. Used vehicle on low mileage can be found as low as £3 000, which compared to a new vehicle costing five times more is superb offer.

Still, customers should be careful and always triple check their future cars. So, if you decide that a certain Volkswagen will suit to your needs, you have to check it’s history, repairs and recent updates.

And remember, try to avoid cars with over 100 thousand miles on the clock, because not always, but most of the times these cars are very “tired”.

  • 2013 Volkswagen Polo BlueGT: dynamic and efficient

Volkswagen-Polo-BlueGT-thumb2013 Volkswagen Polo BlueGT has the potential to set new benchmarks. It combines the aspects of “dynamics” and “fuel efficiency” and hence creates unheard levels of fuel efficiency.

The most important highlight in the new Polo is that it benefits from its TSI engine with active cylinder management (ACT). What it does is to basically shut off two of the engine’s four cylinders.

The torque-friendly 1.4-litre TSI engine produces power output of 103 kW / 140 PS. However it still is able to deliver fuel consumption of just 4.6* l/100 km and has 107 g/km CO2 emissions. When the Polo BlueGT is equipped (optionally) with the optional 7-speed DSG transmission, then the fuel consumption is further reduced to the number of 4.5 l/100 km and 105 g/km CO2, respectively.

Nevertheless, the BlueGT is so powerful that it has a top speed of 210 km/h, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

The coexistence of efficiency and dynamic in one car is enabled by the systematic interplay of ACT, downsizing (reduced engine displacement plus direct injection and charging) and BlueMotion Technologies (Stop/Start system, battery regeneration, aerodynamic components).

    2013 Volkswagen Polo BlueGT
    2013 Volkswagen Polo BlueGT

In addition, the new Volkswagen model is distinctive in terms of exterior and interior as well. Externally, the BlueGT is characterised by such features as new 17-inch aluminium wheels, a roof edge spoiler, modified bumpers (with diffuser on rear bumper), distinctive side sills and a 15 mm lower ride height.

The interior of the car includes extended functional range of standard feature: multifunctional display, cruise control system, sport seats in front, ESP, front airbags, head/thorax airbags and electrohydraulic steering.

2013 Volkswagen Polo BlueGT will be available at dealerships by the end of the year with a starting price of 19 650 euro.

  • Volkswagen Polo GTI 6R Synergetic Effects – A Joint Venture Project

Volkswagen-Polo-GTI-6R-Synergetic-Effects-THUMBVolkswagen Polo GTI 6R Synergetic Effects is very interesting result of the work of collaboration of CFC® in Weilheim with CFC® StylingStation® Neuss, the firms MK-SoundStyle Neuss, AIV in Heilbronn and ASA-Wheels from Kaiserslautern. They all have established a sort of a joint venture which has an effect this one-of-a-kind Polo.

The CFC® StylingStation® Neuss has done all the work concerning the exterior. What it has done basically is to entirely foil the Volkswagen in a princess-style camouflage design. As you can see this camouflage creates a delicate mixture of the two pink tints of different intensity and the two relatively colorless primary hues.

The vehicle how ever is not girlish at all! The Polo 6R comes with screw-threaded AP chassis with improved dynamics and is equipped with the most exquisite combination of wheels and tires: TEC by ASA AS2 Max.-Pink wheel rims in 8×18 inches are equipped with the package of tires by Falken, in the dimensions of 215/35-18.

There are also included some carbon parts for which is responsible blackGold designs. Eventually, the rear bumper makes Polo GTI 6R a true “piece of art”.

The interior of the Polo was made by MK-SoundStyle and AI, which have taken care for the acoustic system. In the Polo is included full audio system Rainbow DL-C6.2 with 20-mm silk tweeters and a neodymium speaker driver.

The Rainbow Intelli Sub 8 AFE, a very flat 200-mm active subwoofer in the body equipped with High Level In and the auto-start function, is also featured. Under the driver’s seat one can find a stable aluminum die-cast body, as well as the woofer with 2 x 2 Ohm dual oscillating coil and a remote control.

  • Volkswagen Caravelle Business

Back in the 50s hippies, surfers and generally happy-go-lucky people had the Volkswagen Caravelle (Transporter T2) to identify with. It was so big (as a name) that it became a symbol of simple life, peace and love. Jump forward 70 years later and we find ourselves at the other end of the spectrum. It’s the Volkswagen Caravelle Business (Transporter T5) – the executives strike back.

It’s a conference room on wheels basically. You get your Wi-Fi internet connectivity and Bluetooth, 5+1 Nappa leather seats and a table. The mid-row swivels (standard on all Caravelles) so that you can hold a mildly interesting meeting that involves let’s say Power Point slides. The rear end seats house a fridge in between them. More luxury is brought by the burr wood inserts here and there while additional curtain airbags ensure all-round passenger safety.

Moving on to the driver, we notice a cruise control option, a 6.5-inch satellite navigation and a 30 GB hard drive. There’s also a lane change assist system which monitors blind spots and a very smart heater that can fine tune the interior temperature (the back seats can do that independently).

On the outside, the windows are tinted, the wheels are 17-inches and the rear lights are darkened. For the tight spaces the wing mirrors can be folded electrically while front and rear parking sensors annoy the devil out of you every time you approach a lamp post. A camera acts as a rear view mirror and Xenon lights at the front light up automatically. Can’t go without LED daytime running lights and also the side doors slide electronically.

For the driving force, a 2.0 liter 180 PS bi-turbo TDI is used (best of the best). A lump of 400 Nm hits you in the head as soon as 1,500 rpm. The transmission is a DSG unit as standard and thus the economy stays at 34.9 mpg on the combined cycle and Euro5 type of emissions of 214 g/km.

Prices for the Volkswagen Caravelle Business starts at £53,856 or $83,628 excluding VAT.

  • Audi A1 Quattro Going 0-259 km/h on Gravel

Audi-A1-Quattro-thumbHere’s a treat for the eyes… and ears. An Audi A1 Quattro rummaging through a tight, gravel-ish path. Not sure if the 259 km/h was the end goal or end result but either way, it came out as a fact.

The Audi A1 Quattro, as you might have guessed, is far from ordinary. Sure, it has a 2.0 TFSI that can be found in many other Volkswagens and Audis, but the 256 PS generated here are put to maximum use by the Qauttro’s suspension setup, ESP system and transmission – The electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch is all the way back to the rear axle for better weight distribution. Further back, there’s an XDS locking differential while at the front 312 mm ventilated high-performance disc brakes provide enough stopping power to halt a planet. Eventually however, it all goes down to the decades old Quattro (AWD) system – refined, redesigned and perfected (at least for now). That’s the reason we witness such a smooth start and not a trench-digging contest. From there on, it’s just grip, grip and grip. When (if) it lets go, one can fix it with a pinky.

So there you go. A brilliant machine and a brilliant test. Just goes to show how road cars have gone up a notch and deliver a glimpse of the hardcore stuff.

  • Volkswagen at the AMI 2012 in Leipzig

Volkswagen are having a really mouth-watering lineup for the 2012 Auto Mobil International in Leipzig. We see some very recent faces such as the Volkswagen CC R-Line, the Beetle Fender and the Polo. The Volkswagen Scirocco however, takes the prize as probably the most exciting one out there. It’s a GTS version which is said to carry the essence of the 70s and 80s back when the Scirocco models was first born.

It’s a world premiere for this GTS version – a black and red stripe splitting the car in two equal halves, shouty red callipers, flaring side sills, new front and rear bumpers and a diffuser, a rear wing, color-coordinated wing mirrors and 18-inch “Thunder” alloy wheels with some black on them. The Scirocco even has the engine to match the looks – no less than 210 hp coming from a TSI 2.0 liter engine. The only thing above it in terms of performance is the 260 hp R version but we can get over that. Especially when we find that the gear stick in the GTS has a history value embedded or more like engraved – it’s the old “golf ball” design that used to be a trademark feature of first generation GTIs and ’82 Scirocco GTSs

Then there are the others – a mile-crunching, sporty looking, Volkswagen CC four-door R-Line that can invigorate even some of the most family people on the planet. As for the rebellious kids, a VW Beetle sounds right, right? Even more so when the music instrument making company Fender has a say when it comes to design. 400 watts of “concert-type” sounding. Finally, something for the bachelor – a CrossPolo “Urban White” – a car, we’ve been told, that it’s not simply white but more like “Oryx White Mother of Pearl” white… not something to brag about. But the 17-inch alloy wheels and the tinted rear windows do add a little character. Inside, a black mingle of Alcantra contrasts the body work and complements the wing mirrors and roof rails. To stress out that the Polo Urban White is for young people, Volkswagen have fitted sports seats so no fragile spines please. For the 70 bhp, the average student will have to pay $23,703 or in other words, 40 years of debt.

  • Volkswagen CC R-Line at Leipzig

Volkswagen-CC-R-Line-thumbAn auto show in Leipzig (the Auto Mobil International) is dangerously close and automakers are scrambling to get the word out. There, on June the 1st, Volkswagen will introduce the 2013 CC R-Line – hardcore driving action for the four-door coupe type of people.

It’s power will be drawn from a 2.0 liter TSI engine and will amount to 200 horsepower. The transmission for it can be either a six-speed manual or VW’s DSG six-speed dual-clutch engineering piece.

Some specific R Line features include a sporty front bumper with big fog lights on it, an “R” logo on the grille and some side skirts. At the back, in true fast and furious fashion, the taillights are tinted while the mad 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels complete the overall look. Inside, stainless-steel scuff plates bare a revealing engraving “R-Line” and the wheel is all sporty and functional.

As standard equipment, the CC R-Line gets adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights with accompanying LED Daytime Running Lights, LED taillights, LED license-plate lights, clever windshield wipers, climate control, heated power seats, touchscreen/multimedia/surround….iPod/Bluetooth/V-Tex thingy. Really, not a point of interest for a real gear head.

Sales in the US will start at the end of 2012. The price issue remains to be addressed.

  • 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet – Pricing Announced

The-Golf-GTI-Cabriolet-THUMB2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet is in fact the first ever convertible in GTI history, which is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 7.3 seconds. This is due to its outstanding engine, which is able to produce 210 horsepower and 280 Newton metres of torque from 1,700 rpm.

For decades GTI is considered one of the most original vehicles among compact sports cars. The numbers in sales speak for themselves. Volkswagen has sold over 1.8 million Golf GTI cars, and now is making a further step in the marketing launching the first open-top version of the iconGTI icon.

2012 Volkswagen GTI Cabriolet comes to offer its driver 155 kW (210 hp) of pure power. In addition to that it is perfect for the hot summer days being a true convertible. In terms of external appearance, the GTI is characterized by the typical GTI features. They include: red-framed radiator grille with honeycomb structure and GTI signature, the front GTI bumper, a new rear diffuser, chrome tailpipes, LED rear lights, side sill extensions and standard 17-inch ‘Denver’ alloy wheels.

  • 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept with world premiere

VW-Golf-GTI-Black-Dynamic-THUMB2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept has just made its debut at the 31st GTI Festival in Reifnitz on the Wörthersee in Austria. It comes to show unique black exterior, black-and-red interior, and more importantly – to give us a sense of 360 hp (265 kW).

This astounding power of the Volkswagen comes from its TSI engine and a lowered sport suspension. What is particularly interesting here is that nine Volkswagen apprentices from four professions have designed and produced this customization of the Golf model. It took them only seven months.

2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept
2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept

A very special feature here is the GTI lettering in the doors and hatch with handmade characters. Next to be mentioned is the 1,800 watt sound system installed in the boot and visible beneath a specially manufactured plexiglas sheet, with nine loudspeakers.

All of the custom features of the Black Dynamic were produced by the apprentices. Take for example the sport seats upholstered in black-and-red Alcantara and leather, or the interior door trim with decorative red seams.

Additional custom features made by them are the Deep Black Metallic exterior finish combined with flat anthracite film trim, the engine and gearbox management tuned to produce and transmit an extra 150 hp (110 kW), the oversized exhaust system and the eight-piston brake system.

A pretty good job they’ve done, haven’t they!

  • Volskwagen Polo WRC Street at Wörthersee

Volkswagen-Polo-WRC-Street-thumbIt’s been a tradition for over 30 years now – a convention within the convention – The “GTI Meeting at Wörthersee”…. for Volkswagen people. This year a concept “warm” hatch is making an appearance – It’s the Polo WRC Street. And calling it warm is a massive understatement. Surely however, the GTI festival won’t be a party of one. Lot’s of other exciting appearances will be made as almost all of Europe rolls into Austria for the event.

Literally taken from the track and put on the streets, the Polo WRC Concept is due to become a reality in 2013. It’s mad looks contribute to it’s appeal – a rear spoiler, a diffuser, a sporty and lowered suspension and a bunch of R-WRC logos. It’s not exactly a real WRC car (it wouldn’t be road legal) but it is out there – we are talking 220 spine-snapping PS from a 2.0-liter TSI engine. Want one for sure.

    Volkswagen Polo WRC Street
    Volkswagen Polo WRC Street

What is the real deal however is the Polo R-WRC – a road-going prototype of the actual FIA World Rally Championship. It’s pretty serious about taking on its WRC rivals next year. At it’s core a 1.6 TSI engine pumps out the 300 PS (that’s the championship limit).

Other notable appearances at the GTI Meeting will be the Golf GTI Cabriolet – a 210 PS open-top with a DSG transmission as an option and an XDS electronic differential lock on the front axle.

If you happen to be there, be on the look out for a Volkswagen Golf “GTI Black Dynamic” design concept as well. It’s been styled by a bunch of young men and women for the… young men and women – black and red motives, a low ride, a 1,800 Watt sound system with nine speakers and subsequently hardly any space for luggage.

The last of the best would be a Golf GTI “White Concept” and as you might imagine, it is white in color. Inside however, again we get that Black Dynamic gene of red and black (it really is a classic this combo). Some contrasting stitches here and there, on the fine Nappa leather, GTI logos. It’s more of a visual feast than anything else.
