  • Paris Motor Show: 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept

2013-Volkswagen-Golf-GTI-Concept-THUMB2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept is going to make its motor show debut in Paris this week. The seventh-generation of the emblematic model comes with new visual appearance, new technology, engines, safety and infotainment features.

The GTI Concept is powered by an advanced 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine which generates 220 hp (162 kW). In addition as an option the car will also be available with a “performance pack”. It will enhance the car’s maximum power to 230 hp (170 kW).

Furthermore, the entry-level car’s maximum torque has been increased to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) thus giving the Volkswagen impressive flexibility and in-gear acceleration. The acceleration time from zero to 100 km/h here is only 6.6 seconds and the top speed is153 mph. However, when the performance pack is added, the top speed is increased to 155 mph, and the sprint time falls to 6.5 seconds.

Another important thing to be mentioned is that this performance pack not only enhances the performance but also the handling, with front brake disc diameters increased, plus a front axle differential lock which reduces power-related understeer.

Next, both GTI versions will be equipped with a standard Stop/Start system. Their engines will be matched to a six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option for both power levels.

As a standard, here is included a variable ratio steering system which. This basically allows the person driving the car to turn the car through a desired radius with smaller movements of the steering wheel.

In addition the new Golf GTI has a variable steering ratio, which reduces steering input during maneuvering and parking. The car also benefits from the technological advancements included such as reduced weight, new safety systems (multi-collision brake) and innovative infotainment systems.

What distinguishes the concept model from the regular Golf VII are the numerous external and internal styling features, including red brake callipers, honeycomb grille with double red stripe detail, smoked LED rear lights and LED licence plate illumination and chrome 80 mm diameter tailpipes.

The interior is equipped with tartan sports seats, a flat bottomed steering wheel, GTI golf ball gear knob and GTI-specific red ambience lighting hark back to cars of previous generations while remaining completely up to date and refreshed for the new generation.

  • The Seventh Volkswagen Golf is Out

Volkswagen-Golf-VII-thumbVolkswagen-Golf-VII-mediumTime to get excited since the seventh chapter of a 38-year-old legend is at our doorstep. The Volkswagen Golf VII made its debut in Berlin. More spunk and less fat for this one. Back to the primitive then!

Well, not really. The latest incarnation of the best seller will be still as complicated as a car can be – a new Modular Transverse Matrix body (which is supposedly roomier), a new information and entertainment system and even more interfering assistance software. Nevertheless, the Wolfsburg boffins have managed to trim off 100 kg of weight.

The 140 PS petrol engine is also now 23 percent more fuel efficient thanks to an already developed and tested cylinder deactivation system (remember the Polo Blue GT?). Additionaly, throughout the engine range, a stop/start system comes and standard and battery regeneration as well. Subsequently, we get figures that feel more at home with today’s diesel engines – 4.8 l / 100 km. Speaking of diesels, the 105 PS TDI in the Golf VII happens to sip just 3.8 l per 100 km. Add to that a BlueMotion trim and you get 3.2 l and less than 86 g/km of CO2 emissions.

Do not for a minute think however, that the seventh Golf will slip through without newly installed plants. There are two entirely new generations of engines, designed to offer power from 85 PS to 150 PS.

Be on the lookout for a full specification list.

  • 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is World’s Fastest Hybrid

2013-Volkswagen-Jetta-Hybrid-THUMB2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid has been announced as the world’s fastest hybrid ever created. The reason for this is that it as just set a world speed record at 185 mph.

This remarkable result was achieved at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Volkswagen was driven by Motor Trend Associate Road Test Editor Carlos Lago. In fact, the official speed that he had achieved was 185.394 mph (298.363 km/h).

This number was enough to announce that this was the “fastest speed ever achieved by a production-based hybrid car on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats.” However, “production-based” still means that the powertrain was modified by Volkswagen engineers.

The wheels were also made more aerodynamically inclined, however what exactly happened to the car in order to achieve this excellent result, wasn’t revealed.

In general Jetta Hybrid gets 45 miles per gallon and has a sprint time of 9.0 secondts for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. It utilizes four-cylinder 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI gasoline engine. The latter generates 150 horsepower (110 kW) and is mated to a 20 kW (27 hp) electric motor.

  • Depth of Speed: Back To Life [VIDEO]

Back-to-Life-DOF-THUMBWe are always awaiting the next Depth of Speed video passionately! This time Josh Clason has made an incredible footage about a legendary car which was so uniquely transformed that no one could possible imagine that this is achievable.

Joel, the owner of a 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit, entirely modified his car implementing an interesting theme and details onto it. For example the leather hood straps were made from belts. The steering wheel was wrapped in leather and the emblems were hand-painted.

Furthermore, an exquisite work can bee seen in the interior. In fact, Joel upholstered the seats himself from some old leather jackets. This tuning is so impressive, that it is hard to believe that this is the first car Joel had ever built!

Just take a look at the video below and you won’t regret it!

  • 1983 Volkswagen Golf I Chocolate Brown Becomes Car of a Special Kind

1983-Volkswagen-Golf-I-Chocolate-Brown-THUMBThis elaborately modified 1983 Volkswagen Golf I Chocolate Brown won the first place in the Show & Shine competition at the 2012 TÜV Rheinland Tuning Night. In addition to this the lucky winning Volkswagen will become a showcase car for TÜV Rheinland at the Automechanika 2012 in Frankfurt.

Marco Mueller is the name of the owner, and he is proud to demonstrate that spectacular tuning trim. The guy was trained as a master mechanic, so it is not a surprise that he had to deal every day with tuned cars.

He designed this car not with the so much appreciated nowadays prefabricated plastic parts, but instead used the old-fashioned metal work, such as the widened wheel arches.

Furthermore he also utilized chrome parts for the front and rear bumpers and wing mirrors. Additionally, the front optics now benefit from spoiler extension and new grill.

Clear glass headlights and red-tinted tail lights rejuvenate the appearance of the Golf.

The name Chocolate Brown is more than obvious for what it stands. The exterior color of the car has a terrific depth and shines with fascinating reflections. Thanks to the sparkling finish, the Golf I can now show its best side from any perspective observed.

Next, the glossy and compact BBS wheels harmonize with both the upgraded chrome embellishments and the classic feel of the car. In details he used 16-inch wheels with 195/45er Kumho tires.

The driving dynamics were also improved by the stiff suspension and whopping reduction. Other performance parts such as sharp Schrick camshaft, SLS chip, modified throttle, Supersprint exhaust system enhance the performance of four-cylinder barrel organ to an impressive 220 hp (162 kW).

This results in exceptional acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, which happens in little more than six seconds. The speed limit Marco Mueller estimated at about 220 km/h.

“I’m curious how my colleagues will find the Golf”, says the master mechanic, but we can ensure him that the positive feedback is unquestionable.

  • Volkswagen Passat CC by KBR Motorsport

KBM-Volkswagen-Passat-CC-thumbKBM-Volkswagen-Passat-CC-medium Usually, when you need some extra character on the road, you turn to aftermarket designers like A. Kahn or tuning houses that resemble Gemballa or Prior. They will be more than happy to put a bumper or two on your gone-souless Mercedes or Porsche. But then, you can do this with your car…provided that you are not ashamed to drive around with “SWAT” written on your side.

Here SWAT actually stands for “Special Wagons And Tuning” which is the parent company of KBR Motorsport and they are responsible for this camouflaged Volkswagen Passat CC. It’s not likely to blend in with it, is it? Luckily, for every drop of insanity here, there’s some sense that compensates. Take the aftermarket 3rd grade coilover suspension – it lowers the four-door coupe neatly so that, at the very least, the 9 x 20-inch R12 Nero wheels gain as much visual prominence as possible. The tire size on all fours stands at 225/30ZR20. There’s some artillery involved as well – an exhaust system that includes a racing catalyst and a 76 mm single tailpipe. That jumps the power of the Passat to 280 hp.

And that camouflage thing, is not really a paint job. It’s more of a foil job done by the guys at CoverEFX. And that pretty much wraps it up – the KBR Motorsport Volkswagen Passat CC Now-you-see-me-now-you-do style.

  • Shark Week with a Volkswagen Beetle [Teaser Video]

Beetle-Shark-Observation-Cage-thumbI have just stumbled on this video/thing on YouTube. It’s from the Volkswagen channel and it’s supposed to be a teaser. Yes, the Beetle is newish but the focus is not on it per se. In August, Discovery Channel are going to broadcast their annual “Shark Week” and Volkswagen will somehow be involved in it.

    Volkswagen Beetle Shark Observation Cage
    Volkswagen Beetle Shark Observation Cage

Why a Beetle then? Well, since the Inglostadt guys don’t have a particular car named after a certain species of shark, why not? Besides, If we got this right, they will be putting together a “Beetle Shark Observation Cage“, which sounds like the most unsettling, comfortable thing ever. Volkswagen have rigid and reliable history but this stunt takes on a whole new meaning.

However, If the cage is to be modeled after a Beetle, it kind of makes sense since it’s the perfect shape – spacious and view friendly. Thus vigilance won’t be an issue when dipping for sharks.

The whole plan will come to light, we guess, on Sunday, the 12th of August when Discovery’s Shark Week will be in motion. Don’t miss out.

  • Hartmann Vansports Volkswagen T5 Prime

Hartmann-Vansports-Volkswagen-T5-Prime-THUMBHartmann Vansports Volkswagen T5 Prime is powerful and stylish, and although it is based on a van, it looks better, sportier and more luxurious.

Hartman has added more power and dynamic to the Volkswagen by upgrading the engine. In details, the Vansports electronic Diesel-Performance-Kit pushes the 2.0 TDI from 103 kW (140 hp) up to 122 kW (165 hp), and the torque from 340 Nm (460 lb-ft) up to 395 Nm (535 lb-ft). If the bus is equipped with the 2.0 BiTDI then the transformation is from 132 kW (180 hp) up to 156 kW (212 hp), torque from 400 Nm (542 lb-ft) up to 460 Nm (623 lb-ft).

The driving fun is further enhanced thanks to the Hartmann’s sport-exhaust-system and an electronic accelerator pedal kit. What they do is basically to optimize the standard signal in the T5, which allows a significantly shorter reaction response during acceleration.

Furthermore, the sports suspension which has been added is giving a better visual outlook to the van. In addition it enhances the road handling for all steering, acceleration and braking maneuvers without sacrificing any comfort.

In particular, the sport suspension brings the T5 30 mm closer to the road. Additional visual highlights are the front spoilers, the side-skirts and the rear skirt extension, as well as the light alloy wheel program.

The wheel design here is created by VEST 3 and the size is 9 x 20 inches coming along with 275/35 R20 Tires. At last, the interior styling of this vehicle offers velour carpeting with an embroidered Hartmann emblem, antiskid rubber-knobs and interior parts in carbon optic.
