The Subaru Legacy’s appeal has grown as news came about a “JNCAP Five Star Award”. The acronym there stands for Japan New Car Assessment Program. It’s annually held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Vicitim’s Aid. It’s basically a parallel to the Euro NCAP.
The five star award is usually given to the car that performs best in terms of safety performance. A segment from the test even includes an assessment of how safe are the pedestrian’s legs after a collision.
Pedestrian head protection performance tests: Level 5 (highest rating)
Pedestrian legs protection performance tests: Level 4 (highest rating)
This is not the first time a Legacy delights the JNCAP officials. In ’09/’10 it was proved to be the best Grand Prix safety car. 2 years before that, the Impreza held the same title. Also, in 2009, the Subaru Forester and Exiga were crowned “Ecvellent Cars”
So then, the Legacy is proving itself to be quite a character. Rigid enough to hold on to its paint work yet kind the fragile bones of the pedestrians. Not to mention all the clever gizmos inside that prevent it from crashing in the first place. And don’t worry about the weight of the thing. We are pretty sure that at the very least, the 2.5-liter boxer engine under the hood provides more than enough oomph.
2013 Subaru Legacy has just been unveiled at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. What lies beyond this new model is the philosophy of “All performance enhancement”. This refers to improvement made regarding the design, fuel economy, drivability and safety.
In addition to this Subaru Legacy comes with more extensive modifications, which are not only limited in to exterior and interior changes.
The new Subaru model delivers more excitement in driving and more comfort for the passengers. In addition it is equipped with the new generation Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine, thanks to which the fuel economy is improved.
The exterior design of the vehicle conveys stability and confidant stance. This is probably due to the headlamps with the motif common with other Subaru vehicles and a hexagon grille.
Other modifications were made on the vehicle’s height which was raised by 60 mm. In addition to this the front bumper, side spoiler and rear bumper were newly designed.
All these original modifications in the exterior design of the legacy result in bolder look and powerful presence.
The front and rear fender design now has massive wheel arches. For this reason the vehicle’s width was extended by 40mm.
2013 Subaru Legacy sits on the new 18 inch-wheels, while the wheel arch designs embodies power running through the symmetrical All-Wheel drive. The high-quality of the car is further highlighted by the chrome parts which can be found on the side sill spoiler and rear bumper.
2013 Subaru Legacy
Furthermore, the interior of the car now expresses luxury and comfort. The color of the center panel, front console and steering switch panel is now black-metal-like color. In addition, electronic parking brake and “SI-DRIVE” switches were relocated for better usability.
The new Legacy is also environmentally “conscious”: the fuel efficiency it provides is now outstanding. This is due to the new generation Boxer engine, which combines the light and compact second-generation Lineartronic (CVT).
Moreover, suspensions were also updated in order to refine the driving experience.
In terms of safety features, the vehicle includes the additional bumper beam reinforcement and the knee airbag for a driver. There is also added the VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) with new control system.
2013 Subaru BRZ US spec is priced from just $25 495, which is sensational price for such type of vehicle.
The new BRZ is $1 295 more than the Scion FR-S, but comes with a lot of extras including a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the slightly more expensive Premium models feature touch-screen GPS Navigation, Bluetooth® connectivity and HID headlamps. Above the well-appointed Premium model, Limited models add Alcantara seat inserts with leather bolsters, heated seats and mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control system, fog lights, Keyless Access & Start and body-color decklid spoiler.
Limited models come equipped with leather seats and start at $27 495 when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and $28 595 for automatic versions.
2013 BRZ is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine with 200HP (149 kW) and 205Nm (151 lb-ft).
New 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer engine features “square” configuration (bore and stroke dimensions identical) for high-revving performance; double overhead camshafts and dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS); fuel injection system combines direct injection and port injection technologies; very high compression ratio; high specific engine output: 100 hp/liter.

Fuji Heavy Industries, or Subaru if you like, plan to introduce the XV, first seen at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show back in September 2011, to the US market. It will be known as the XV Crosstrek and will have a specification made fit for the States.
Being a “compact SUV”, the Subaru XV Crosstrek is actually an elevated Impreza that will be the replacement of the current Subaru Outback. Supposedly, it has good ground clearance (8.7 inches of it), a comfy ride and a dynamic feel. For power, it used a 2.0 liter flat Boxer petrol engine that sends torque to all fours. And thanks to a Linetronic CVT transmission, Subaru claim that the XV can return 33 mpg on the highway.
In America, there will be two trim levels – Premium and Limited with the latter bringing advanced interactivity thanks to a 6.1-inch touch screen, multi-function navigation system.
The US debut will be made at the 2012 New York International Auto Show which is set to kick off on the sixth of April. Subaru’s press conference will be the day before at 9:55 am.
Scion has just announced pricing for the 2013 Scion FR-S compact rear-wheel drive sports car, which start at $24 200 (MSRP). The vehicle is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. However, it has a version that comes with a six-speed automatic transmission that features paddle shifters and rev-match technology and is priced at $25 300. The Scion will go on sale this spring.
The FR-S acronym in the name of the car stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport. It delivers an authentic rear-wheel-drive sports car with very well balanced performance and handling, compelling style, flexible utility and surprising fuel efficiency. Moreover, the vehcle is designed around the core goal of achieving “Pure Balance”, which begins with the strategic use of the world’s only flat boxer engine in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine has a compact size and flat shape, which allows to be mounted extremely low, giving the car a dynamically favorable front-to-rear weight ratio of 53:47 and a low center of gravity. Furthermore, the Scion has a 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which comes as a result of a joint development between Toyota and Subaru. In this work of collaboration Subaru’s newly developed, horizontally opposed engine will be combined with Toyota’s cutting edge D-4S injection system that incorporates both direct and port injection. The D-4S system, partnered with a high 12.5:1 compression ratio, results in 200 hp (147 kW) and 151 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual offers quick, precise shifts with a short-throw; while the automatic features aggressive up shifts and sporty rev-matched down shifts that are initiated by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Power is transferred to the pavement via a standard Torsen® limited-slip differential.
2013 Scion FR-S
In addition to this, the “Pure Balance” idea is further manifested by the FR-S’s lightweight design and compact size. This unique combination allows the car to be quick and with h dynamic high maneuverability, and confident handling. The coupe’s weight is minimized by using a lightweight aluminum hood, a solid roof, and by featuring a trunk design instead of a hatchback. This low weight is matched with a dynamically tuned suspension setup consisting of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone system in the rear. In addition, lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels and ventilated disc brakes are standard on all four corners.
The exterior of the car is really powerful: it reveals a hood and roof-line that is remarkably sleek and low, giving it an aerodynamic shape that channels air cleanly over to the top. In addition, the aggressive front fenders protrude upward and boast the iconic ‘86’ piston emblem. The rear fascia sits low and wide, with aerodynamic lower treatments that surround the sporty dual exhaust system. Of course, a today model can’t go without LEDs. Here they illuminate the edgy taillights, while center-mounted backup lights finish the muscular design. The 2013 Scion FR-S will be available in seven colors including Raven, Asphalt, Hot Lava, Argento, Ultramarine, Firestorm and Whiteout.
What about the interior: the FR-S’s interior includes a 2+2 seating configuration. The front seats include deep bolsters, they are mounted extremely low, while the rear seat folds down flat, creating flexible space. The large center-mounted tachometer is the focus of the three-gauge cluster and features a programmable shift-indicator. Here, the speed is being monitored by both digital and analog gauges. The 2013 FR-S features a sporty leather-trimmed steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment. As a standard in the vehicle are included eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/USB 300-watt maximum output Pioneer™ audio system, HD Radio™ technology, Bluetooth® connectivity.
Furthermore, regarding thee safety features, the FR-S comes with six airbags, including dual-stage advanced driver- and front-passenger airbags, front-seat-mounted airbags and side-curtain airbags. In addition, it also includes the Star Safety System with Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Smart Stop Technology (SST).
Subaru brand has just announced that its 2012 Subaru XV is awarded with the highest possible rating – five-star – by EuroNCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) for its overall safety performance. This year’s rating reflects the performance of the XV according to the latest requirements set by Euro NCAP’s. Additional assessment system has been applied since 2009 by Euro NCAP which evaluates “Adult Occupant Protection”, “Child Occupant Protection”, “Pedestrian Protection” and “Safety Assist”. Another highlight here us that five star rating is being awarded to the Subaru XV model for the second consecutive year.
Subaru further improved its unique “ring-shaped reinforcement frame body” by optimizing the impact energy relay structure. The use of high tensile steel was also increased on the new Subaru XV. All these features actually allow the reduction in weight, higher collision safety performance to impacts from all directions, and improved passenger safety. Furthermore, additional airbags have been installed in the front seats, driver’s knee, and sides. The above features are topped with VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control), which now is standard equipment on all models. The new 2012 Subaru XV has already received excellent reviews for its safety performance, SUV functionality and stylish design.
2012 Subaru XV
Moreover, Subaru aims to pursue all-around safety with the continuation of its’ active, passive and pre-crash safety technologies. In details, active safety includes safety enhanced by driveability and risk-avoidance technologies; passive safety: safety enhanced by collision safety systems; and at last the pre-crash safety featured safety enhanced by advanced driving assist technologies such as warning alerts and autonomous emergency braking
Subaru UK has announced the price list for the new 2012 Legacy Tourer. The family vehicle starts at £26 865 OTR for the entry level 2.0 D S model and goes up to 31 375 for the top-of-range 2.5i SE Navplus*. The new Legacy Tourer comes with a lot of significant technical improvements and equipment upgrades. It will deliver more satisfaction to owners and in the same time, it will lower the running costs and environmental impact.
The next-generation Boxer diesel engine meets Euro 5 regulations with emission of just 149 g/km CO2 and astonishing fuel economy – 49.6 mpg (combined cycle). Importantly, the latter drops the car’s VED band down to level F, saving customers £35 per year. These figures are achieved thanks to a more efficient turbocharger, new exhaust-camshaft timing and lighter connecting rods, new oxidation catalytic converters and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
In terms of power, the diesel is very good – 147PS (108 kW) at 3600RPM and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) at 1600RPM. 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph).
The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a Lineartronic automatic is available as an option.
Suspension modifications for all 2012 Legacy models include new bushes for the front anti-roll stabiliser bar mounts to improve ride comfort, new pressed upper rear suspension arms to reduce weight (saving 2 kg per car), and new pillow-ball bushes in the rear wishbones to reduce friction and provide a smoother ride.
2012 Subaru Legacy Tourer
The exterior modifications of the new 2012 Legacy Tourer are minor – new door mirrors, a higher-resolution rear view camera (SE NavPlus only) and the availability of a new colour – Ice Silver Metallic. The interior benefits from a single-CD unit featuring a large LCD display screen together with USB and iPod connectivity and steering wheel-mounted controls. On diesel models (with manual transmission) the instrument cluster now has a ‘shift-up’ indicator to encourage an economical driving style.
Standard equipment includes cruise control, a glass ‘tilt-n-slide’ sunroof, dual-zone fully automatic air-conditioning, a premium audio system with six speakers (including two tweeters), automatic lights and wipers and a powered driver’s seat. A Bluetooth® hands-free system with voice activation is fitted as standard, while all but the S model are trimmed in black leather. Models with Lineartronic transmission feature steering wheel mounted paddle-shifters as standard.
SE and SE NavPlus models add a Sports Package which comprises a sports front bumper and front grille, dark tinted headlamps, larger 18” alloy wheels and special Bilstein dampers. SE NavPlus models also feature a new DVD navigation system as standard, with a high-resolution eight-inch display for optimum clarity.
In the UK, the 2012 Legacy is available in a selection of six exterior body colours – one new colour (Ice Silver Metallic) – alongside five popular carry-over colours, Satin White, Galaxy Blue Silica, Crystal Black Silica, Graphite Grey Metallic and Camellia Red Pearl.
2012 Subaru Legacy Tourer:
In the UK, the Subaru BRZ will be equipped with a generous array of standard features. The company is pleased to know that on the island interest is brewing. The sole example of that is the fact that people there are preordering already, without even knowing the spec prices.
It is clear now however, that the top of the line BRZ‘s will come with 17-inch alloy wheels, a torque-sensing LSD, front, side, curtain and knee airbags, MP3 connectivity, dual-zone climate control and LED daytime running lights. The driver-focussed BRZ will also come with Subaru’s VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) that can be adapted to work with either a six-speed short-shift manual or a paddle-operated automatic transmission.
A lower-spec car will also become available later this year followed by an even more modest, stripped out version dedicated to those who would like to customize it in their own likes. It will also be ideal for track-day enthusiasts.
Six eye-catching colors will be available for the BRZ – Subaru’s trademark WR Blue Mica, Sterling Silver, Satin White, Crystal Black Silica, Dark Grey Metallic and San Remo Red.
The car is notable for its tremendous low gravity center courtesy to the 200PS 2.0-litre Boxer engine that sits well under the hood. Power-to-weight ratio is said to be 164PS per tonne which makes it powerful indeed but with the lightweight materials used in making it, the BRZ will also handle brilliantly.

With the 82nd Geneva Motor Show approaching, more and more information is let loose to the world about premiers and lineups and surprises. Today,Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (Subaru makers) confirmed that they will debut (for Europe) “Subaru BRZ” and the “Impreza 5-door”.
The fourth incarnation of the Impreza is designed to be a symbol of reliability, handling and safety. As always it comes with Subaru’s symmetrical AWD and a flat engine. In Europe that engine would be a very green 1.6 petrol that is said prsereve the sporty legacy of the brand. On a side note, the company’s own symmetrical AWD system, which first appeared on the “Subaru Leone Estate Van” in 1972, is turning 40 years this year. So at the Geneva Subaru booth, tech enthusiasts will have the opportunity to visit a gallery illustrating the history of Subaru’s AWD and tryout a 3D virtual thematic game.
Subaru Impreza (2012)
The Subaru BRZ, which is almost identical to the Toyota GT 86 but is at the same time somehow better, will also make a European Premiere. This car will be the AWD exception as it is a front engined, RWD composition that throws us back in the days when tail-happy cars were appreciated. That said, it won’t be an uncontrollable lunatic car this, but rather a finely balanced GT car with a low center of gravity. That’s the beauty of a flat engine – it offers flexibility and compactness so the Subaru engineers have put it as low as possible and lo and behold, we have a performance fun house.
Subaru BRZ (2013)
Press day for the Geneva Motor Show is set for the sixth and seventh of March and on the eight, the public can join in. The Subaru press conference is scheduled at 11:45am on March 6th
