  • 2014 Renault Trafic – Fuel Consumption 5.1 l /100 km

Considered as the most economic van in its class due to its combined fuel figure of 55.5mpg UK (5.1 l / 100 km), it is crowned as Europe’s top Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) at the 2014 MPG Marathon. The All-New Renault Trafic gains the prestigious title of not just the “Best percentage improvement” but also “Best MPG”, thus, distributing economy improvements in terms of fuel performance and eco driving techniques. In relation to this, Dan Gilkes observes that; “The Trafic never missed a beat and was a pleasure to drive, with a quiet comfortable cab and controls.”

The bodystyles of the All-New Renault Trafic van vary in three versions. There is a Panel Van, Crew Van – which provides seats to six people in total – and Passenger – that has enough space to carry up to nine people and still does not lose any of its comfort. Yet, apart from the looks, one of the most significant innovations and changes to the new van is right under the bonnet. All-New Trafic offers a choice of four turbodiesel engines which achieve topmost efficiency. Replacing the old with a brand new 1.6-litre twin turbo – technology engine that serves to deliver maximum economy and develop an impressive torque figures, the van exceeds the expectations of its customers.

In addition, The ENERGY turbodiesel engine is invented in such precision that enables it to function in the most desired way. What is more, it exhibits not only an ideal performance but also ever-required fuel economy. As Mile Willis, Trafic Product Manager, Renault UK points out; “We’re delighted that All-New Trafic has come out on top as the most frugal LCV in the 2014 MPG Marathon and beaten its official economy figures.”

There are, of course, a great variety of other innovations and improvements on the van that are mere proofs of the high class which Renault incorporates into its standards. For instance, the loading area is made more practical, there is keyless entry, mobile office storage and functionality, touch-screen infotainment and, last but not least, innovative stability control.

The All-New Renault Trafic has definitely made the best of its name once again!

  • Next Generation Renault Espace with Premiere in Paris

This year’s Paris Motor Show is just around the corner and automotive brands are competing in showing us teasers, pictures and scarce information of what we are to see there. Such is the case with Renault, which will be taking the wraps off the new 2015 Espace model. The company has currently revealed three pictures of the soon-to-be-revealed crossover and gave us some details around it.

As we can see the large, elegant and innovative crossover has a strong design and seductive appeal. It is based largely upon the concept car that was revealed one year ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. 2015 Renault Espace keeps the 30-year long tradition of the product live alive, by offering a brightly-lit, comfortable and modular interior.

Espace will also charm the public in Paris with its fluid lines and occupant-friendly cabin and floating centre console. Renault said that it will offer the model in five- and seven-seat version. Both variants will feature ingenious interior modularity and huge attention to detail with regard to new car’s design.

The premiere of Espace will happen at company’s press conference at 11.00am on Thursday, October 2nd, on the Renault stand at the Paris Motor Show. However, we will all be able to see the event and be “virtually” there. The internet public will be able to access the on-line unveiling at www.crossover.renault.com.

  • World’s First 3D-Printed Car is Here! [VIDEO]

It will be the end of the automotive world as we know it, when the world’s first 3D-printed car drives out of McCormick Place in Chicago. During the six day event of International Manufacturing Technology Show, the vehicle will be printed over 44 hours then rapidly assembled by a team led by Local Motors. Then there will be a historic first drive set that will take place in the morning of September 13th.

The car carries the name “Strati” and it will be 3D printed in one piece with the utilization of direct digital manufacturing (DDM). And this is definitely history, because for the first time this method has been used to make a car.

And if you wonder how the mechanical components such as battery, motor, wiring, and suspension will be printed, well – they won’t. They will be sourced from various suppliers, including Renault’s electric Twizy.

The hopes for the Strati are to change the manufacturing status quo as well as consumer’s experience. It is also an example for the development of technology nowadays and how a car can be born in an entirely different way.

The innovative vehicle uses the material science and advanced manufacturing techniques pioneered at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The 3D printing will also contribute to faster and innovative manufacturing solutions.

The machine behind this project is called BAAM, which stands for Big Area Additive Manufacturing machine. Its deposition rate of 40 pounds per hour of carbon reinforced ABS plastic and its large size allow for 3D printing of larger parts.

Strati will be displayed at AMT’s Emerging Technology Center. Local Motors, is a platform, which empowers anyone to design, build, and sell machines. It combines global co-creation and local micro-manufacturing to bring hardware innovations faster to the market. The Company is created by community of enthusiasts, hobbyist innovators and professionals which have gathered together to solve complex mechanical problems. Currently, Local Motors have plans to launch production-level 3D-printed vehicles for purchase from the general public. This will probably happen several months after the show.

  • Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept

Renault has teamed up with Caterham to work on a production model of Alpine A110-50 Concept. The idea for the supercar was presented in May 2012 and the model will actually go in production in 2015 and first deliveries will commence in 2016.

The chief design of Renault – Laurens van den Acker commented that the vehicle’s styling has been completed and there is a hope for a sub-brand of Alpine models to come out in the next year. No further details are announced for the model, but Renaultsport’s chief – Patrice Ratti said that the Alpine supercar will be “more about driving pleasure than pure power”.

It is also known that the car’s official design will not have anything in common with the A110-50 concept. Still, new engineering mules are expected to start tests in a short period of time and we can get slight idea of how the car is going to look like.

The engine can be taken from Renault Megane RS – a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 275HP (202 kW) at 5,500RPM and 360Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque at 3,000RPM. It probably will be tuned to around 300HP and 400Nm, which combined with ultra-low weight and rear wheel drive will satisfy the demands of petrol heads.

    Stay tuned!

  • Renault publishes UK Twingo pricing and more

    New-Renault-Twingo_thumbNew-Renault-Twingo_651

The French automaker Renault has described in detail the pricing of the upcoming third generation Twingo. The prices are valid for the UK only but they still give an idea what the new city car will cost.

Before we go to the price list we have to say that there are three versions of the all-new Twingo – Expression, Play and Dynamique with a choice of two engines – the new 1.0-liter 70 hp SCe three-cylinder normally aspirated engine and a Dynamique TCe 90 with a 0.9-liter 90 hp three-cylinder turbocharged unit. This gives a total of four models – the Expression SCe 70 will sell for GBP 9,495, the Play SCe 70 will cost GBP 9,995, while the Dynamique SCe 70 S&S and Dynamique ENERGY TCe 90 S&S will sell for GBP 10,995 and GBP 11,695, respectively.

In case you wonder what this money will get you here’s some more information. The new 1.0-liter SCe three-cylinder engine delivers 70 horsepower (51 kW) at 6,000 rpm, 91 Nm (67 lb-ft) of torque at 2,850 rpm and accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 14.5 seconds, while offering a top speed of 151 km/h (94 mph). The 0.9-liter TCe 90 three-cylinder turbocharged unit offers 90 horsepower (66 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 135 Nm (100 lb-ft) of torque at 2,500 rpm; the engine can accelerate the new Twingo from 0-100 km/h (0-62 miles) in 10.8 seconds and the top speed is 166 km/h (103 mph).

The new Twingo offers much more than engines, though. For the first time in the history of the car the engine is placed in the back and drives the rear wheels; in addition to that there are five doors instead of just three. The new rear-engine layout makes the car a bit smaller and the third generation Twingo is 10 cm (4 in) shorter than its predecessor at just 3.59 meters (11.8 feet) but the wheelbase is 12 cm (4.7 in) longer at 2.49 meters (8.2 feet) and there is 22 cm (8.7 in) more cabin room. The very fuel efficient three-cylinder 12V engines now allow you to get up to 14 UK mpg (22.5 km) more than before and feature as much as 35 grams/km lower carbon dioxide emissions than the engines in the previous Twingo. Thus the Dynamique SCe 70 car with Start & Stop technology can achieve 67.3 mpg UK (4.2 liters/100 km) of fuel consumption and just 95 g/km of carbon dioxide emissions. All versions of the new Twingo exceed 60 mpg UK (4.7 liters/100 km) of mixed fuel consumption and reach 50 mpg UK (5.6 liters/100 km) in urban conditions.

On the outside the new car comes with body-colored bumpers, door handles and exterior door mirror shells, a rear spoiler and LED daytime running lights.  Comfort and convenience are provided with electric power steering, electric front windows, remote central locking, a speed limiter, a height-adjustable steering wheel, a trip computer and gearchange indicator, a lane-change function for the indicators and the automatic activation of the rear screen wiper when reverse gear is selected. The Play version adds an air conditioner, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel and 15-inch black two-tone wheel trims in place of the grey ones with Expression.

Dynamique versions add 15-inch alloy wheels, pinstripe shoulder-line decals, front fog lamps, electric heated door mirrors, cruise control, a lane departure warning system, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshift knob, white instrument backlighting, a folding key and storage pockets in the rear doors. This version also benefits from Stop & Start engines that cut emissions and improve fuel economy.  The Dynamique TCe 90 is fitted with Variable Gear Ratio power-assisted steering, making the vehicle more agile and reactive at lower speeds.

All new Twingos provide connectivity through a new, smartphone-operated R & GO system that gives owners access to a variety of navigation, telephone, multimedia and trip computer functions as well as internet radio and a host of other practical features.  Dynamique models offer the option of the R-Link multimedia system with a seven-inch touch-screen, voice control, TomTom®navigation and 3D sound by Arkamys. DAB radio, Bluetooth®connectivity and USB sockets are standard on every version.

The new Twingo will be commercially available in September of this year but you can pre-order one of the models now.

  • Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R – Pricing Announced

Renault-Megane-R-THUMB2014 Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is the newest limited edition Sport hatch, which was introduced almost two months ago. Of course, the car comes equipped with variety of improvements as well as new more powerful engine: 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged one. As the name of the car states, the unit delivers 275 hp (202 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 360Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque at 3,000 rpm. Furthermore, the new Renault Sport model benefits from new Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, which is lighter than the one used in its predecessor.

This car has achieved two weeks ago 7m 54.36s record for a rear-wheel drive car round the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. The record was achieved thanks to the dedication of the teams at Renault Sport Technologies and the hundreds of hours of testing. The new lap record highlights once again the knowledge and expertise of the specialists at the brand.

Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R comes as a standard with the Cup chassis with limited-slip differential, Öhlins Road&Track dampers and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The car has no rear seats, and in the front one can see Recaro Pole Position polycarbonate monocoque seats with three-point seat belts.

The exterior of the model has new two-tone colour scheme: Etoile Black roof mated with a Pearlescent White finish. Highlights here are also the Trophy-R branded F1-type front blade, chequered flag graphic at the bottom of the front doors and graphics on the sides in Vif Red.

Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R has already gone one sale in France with an initial price tag of €45,000.
