  • McLaren 650S Claims Awards on Three Continents

After obtaining three prestigious titles in just one week, the McLaren 650S has achieved further global praise. This innovative car was recognized as the ‘Best Supercar’ in the Middle East Car of the Year awards, followed shortly after by winning the coveted ‘2015 China Performance Car of the Year’ title. But this is not all, my friends. This McLaren triumphed as ‘Scottish Sportscar of the Year’ too. The award was bestowed by the highly regarded Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.

Apparently, the McLaren 650S has managed to make a statement and leave a strong impression ever since it has been launched (which happened at the Geneva Motor Show in March). The remarkable results and achievements are testimony for McLaren’s workmanship, uncompromised excellence, hard work and thought put on the making of the vehicle. What is more, the 650S claimed the third successive annual title for McLaren in the Middle East region, thus following the path of the 12C and 12C Spider which had previously scooped the ‘Best Super Car’ award.

Jolyon Nash, Executive Director for Global Sales and Marketing commented: “The past week has seen the 650S claim three prestigious titles in three different continents, which is proof of the breadth of abilities this McLaren presents in all markets. The no compromise blend of high performance, refinement and driver engagement proving as important, no matter where in the world you choose to experience the 650S. That the 650S has received these commendations in such differing markets is also testament to how much and how quickly McLaren has grown as a global car company, with today a network of over 60 retailers across 30 markets. And all opened in less than three years.”

  • McLaren Teases “Black Swan” Sports Series Again [VIDEO]

McLaren-Sports-Series-THUMBThe black swan is a symbol of a moment that completely changes the way we look at the world. The new McLaren Sports Series which is debuting on the world stage in 2015 is the next black swan moment for the brand. We have already seen the first teaser image and the video, and now McLaren has introduced the second photo (you can see it below), showing part of the butterfly door. The car is expected to be named McLaren P13 Sports Series.

P13 will be positioned below the 650S, and its lineup will probably comprise of coupe and a spider version. It will feature a carbon fiber composite chassis. How about the engine here? There are rumors saying that the new Sport Series will be powered by a modified 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine.

It will be coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. All this will allow P13 to cover the 0-100 km/h in approximately 4 seconds, while top speed is expected to be 333 km/h or even lower.

Although it somewhat resembles a Ferrari, the car definitely looks like a contemporary McLaren. You can see the thin LED headlights as well as ten-spoke alloy wheels. Wing mirrors are also there and they are mounted to the doors, and this is what is similar between the P13 and P1, and different between the first and the 650S model.

This car is being developed and released into production before the Acura NSX makes an official appearance. This means that the McLaren will definitely offer a better car Acura. McLaren Sports Series is also set to take on the admirers of the Audi R8 or the Porsche 911 GT3. The two-seater is currently undergoing testing.

  • McLaren to Call its next Sports Series Black Swan?

McLaren-Sports-Series-THUMBNo, don’t worry. There is absolutely no chance for McLaren to call its new vehicle Black Swan. Instead, it will be probably dubbed McLaren P13 Sports Series, and more importantly, the company has just officially released a first teaser image of the front of the upcoming racing machine. “Black swan moments” is only a metaphor, which means that something is going against ordinary belief and expectations.

And this is what we can expect from the future P13. From the image we see that the vehicle is currently undergoing testing. Nevertheless, the teaser image above does not show much of the car. In fact, it shows it partially and covered with camouflage.

In addition, McLaren Sports Series is set to take on the admirers of the Audi R8 or the Porsche 911 GT3.

P13 will be based on a carbon fiber monocoque and will be powered by a V8 engine. The rumors say that the unit will be a modified 3.8-liter twin-turbo, and just like the P1 it will be coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Last thing to mention is that the car will be a two-seater.

  • McLaren P1: The Air-Slicer

As they say in the video; “For years cars have been basically the same but this really isn’t. It’s a game-changer, a genuinely new chapter in the history of motoring.” This is McLaren P1. It is probably the most mind-blowingly powerful superhero among supercars. It is super economical and fast. Super-fast. In fact, extremely fast. Did I say it was fast? I probably used too many “supers” but one is just not enough when it comes to describing this hybrid monster.Jeremy Clarkson takes this air-ripping hypercar to Belgium for a super (yes, I did it again) fast lap around the Spa, the longest F1 motor-racing circuit. There he tests the ultimate power of McLaren P1 which excellence springs from the outside as well as from the inside. The glossy black (in this case) body is made from the finest panels which are five in total. The windows’ glass is thick only 3 and a half mm. which is 1 and a half mm. thinner than the glass used for every other normal car. I will point it out again. NORMAL car. The wheels are made from military-grade aluminium and the carbon ceramic brake disks are infused with silicon carbide. What is more, the electric motor and the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine seem to work in a symbiosis and give a combined output of 903 bhp. As Clarkson says in Top Gear magazine; “Full throttle in a P1 is like Christmas. It’s something that you can only use once a year. And even then only briefly, because it actually hurts. When this car accelerates, it beats you up. It hurts your face. It’s like Christmas in other ways too. It causes arguments with your loved ones. And it’s great.”McLaren P1 is indeed heroically good car partially because it looks like something from some big-budget sci-fi movie and partially because it is so cleverly crafted and made. Observing how it simply slices the air into pieces it is not difficult to notice how this rocket-like car does not move. It rather, slides. On the road and on one’s senses too.To see the full performance, click the following link.httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL_eIZjiLUk

  • Catching a Glimpse of the Track-Focused McLaren P1 GTR Interior

McLaren finally discloses how the new McLaren P1 GTR will look like interiorly. The revealed insides of this automotive monster really can make a person get goose bumps. It looks like something coming out of Marvel Universe! With its boosted cutting-edge power, dynamic look and excellent performance it is transformed into a machine which is set to become the world’s best track weapon ever.

Did anyone say power? More power? How much more power? Well, precisely 83bhp more than the road-going P1 model, taking total output from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and electric motor to 986bhp.

There is a whole lot more about the McLaren P1 GTR than a simple power boost. I mean “simple” really. Perhaps you can notice from the photos that the new P1 GTR does not have a roll cage. That’s because the car does not need such. In addition, from the official first pictures it becomes apparent that the interior is designed in such a manner that speaks for driver-focused style. The DTM-style seats are positioned directly to the chassis, which in return reduces weight by having no additional mounting brackets.

If it still doesn’t look like a race car enough for you, check out the upgraded steering wheel! Its design is similar to the steering wheel of the MP4-23 F1 driven by the 2008 championship winner Lewis Hamilton. Intended to make all controls easily accessible, all of the key controls along with the mode switches are located in the center of the bespoke steering wheel. The DRS and IPAS are also retained there. It does look bloody amazing indeed!

McLaren-625C-THUMBMcLaren 625C is company’s first regionally tailored model which aims to conquer the Asian market. The new car promises the greatest of refinement of any McLaren model up to date. This of course will come in combination with the enhanced driving dynamics. The 625C model is being launched in response to demand from customers in the Asian region. The vehicle shares the same visuals as the 650S, but has somewhat more focus on day-to-day usability and comfort.

The ProActive Chassis Control and the suspension hardware have been refined, thus delivering optimized driving dynamics and ride quality. The name of the 625C refers to the power output – the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 powerplant, which produces 625 hp (460 kW), while the ‘C’, stands for ‘Club’. In fact, the McLaren 625C has several technical benefits when compared to the 650S.

First, enhancements have been made to driveability and efficiency with engine torque of 610Nm (450 lb-ft). Second, the acceleration time from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) is only just 3.1 seconds, while to 200 km/h (124 mph) – 8.8 seconds (for the Coupé). The maximum speed mirrors that of the 650S, which is 333 km/h (207mph) (329 km/h (204 mph) for Spider). The CO2 emissions have been rated at 275 g/km.

The refined ride is ensured by the updated dampers and revised mechanical balance. In addition, the less stiff spring rate at the rear ensures a sharp response with no loss in ride comfort through the ProActive Chassis Control system in ‘Normal’ mode. There is also no compromise regarding handling or performance in ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ modes.

  • McLaren 650S Sprint to Debut at the Penultimate Round of the GT Cup Race

McLaren-650S-Sprint-THUMBMcLaren 650S Sprint will make an official dynamic debut at this weekend’s penultimate round of the GT Cup race at Donington Park in the United Kingdom. A month ago, McLaren has unveiled the 650S Sprint at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This weekend’s race marks the European debut of the car. 650S Sprint was developed and optimized specifically for the track, and now its eligibility to race in the NARRA US GT series, the SCCA GT Championship and the UAE GT series, has been confirmed.

The extremely fast vehicle will contest three races during the weekend: one sprint race with a driver-change on Saturday, followed by two shorter events on Sunday, where the drivers will be contesting one complete race each. Behindd the steering wheel will be the McLaren GT factory driver Rob Bell, who returns to the Von Ryan Racing team after running at this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa in the 12C GT3.

Furthermore, Bell has also been included in the development of the 650S Sprint, so that he can have a thorough knowledge of the track-only racer. Next to the driver will be sitting the experienced Nürburgring-racer and journalist Lomas, who has shown good pace in testing ahead of the event.

McLaren 650S Sprint is based on the road-going 650S. It features aerodynamically enhanced design, delivering increased levels of downforce, and revised air intakes that offer better cooling of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo M838T engine. • McLaren P1 GTR Design Concept with European Debut

McLaren-P1-GTR-THUMBMcLaren P1 GTR design concept debuted in Europe, specifically at this weekend’s Chantilly Arts & Elegance concours, after it had been unveiled at the Pebble Beach automotive weekend last month. Currently, the development programme for the McLaren P1 GTR continues at pace. McLaren says that this vehicle will be the most track-tailored and powerful model produced by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) up to date.

There are various updates done on the car. Take for instances the power uprate, with an increase in power to 1,000 horsepower. The prototype has been camouflaged and tests race-proven slick tyres with a unique exhaust system. The next stage in the development of the GTR P1 will be the optimization of the aerodynamic performance. The testing will continue even during the winter.

Alongside the McLaren P1 GTR design concept, the company has premiered a unique example of the McLaren 650S. The 650S Coupé has been produced by MSO and commissioned by the McLaren Paris retailer. It is a visually striking example of the mid-engined supercar.

The body of the vehicle has been painted in gleaming Pearl White metallic finish. The same color extends throughout the exterior, including the front splitter, door blades and side intakes. The contrast is made via details such as the roof, lightweight alloy wheels and mirror casings which all have been finished in gloss black.

Furthermore, the body-coloured front bumper and MSO door blades enhance the airflow and optimize the aerodynamic efficiency. In addition, the rear of the car is fitted with an aggressive carbon fibre diffuser which is in contrast to the crisp paintwork. Additional contrast is achieved with a set of five-spoke lightweight forged 650S alloy wheels finished in gloss black.

The interior of this unique 650S is trimmed with lightweight black Alcantara and contrasting orange stitching throughout. Extensive use of carbon fibre can be seen inside as well as a gloss black finish applied to the air vents, instrument cluster and switches on the Active Dynamics Panel.

  • McLaren Unveils P1 GTR Design Concept at Pebble Beach

McLaren-P1-GTR-THUMBMcLaren P1 GTR design concept was shown for the first time during a private event at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. The racing concept is a preview to the final mode. The latter has just entered the next step of development. The P1 GTR will be the most track-focused and powerful model produced by MSO (McLaren Special Operations). In fact, the goal of MSO is to create the best driver’s car in the world on track. The car has enhanced aerodynamics, race-proven slick Pirelli tyres, a fixed ride height, increased power delivery from the IPAS powertrain and large, fixed rear wing and an ERS-style push-to-pass system.

The GTR is based on the McLaren P1 road car, however it is optimized in terms of aerodynamics, features a ‘shrink-wrapped’ body shape, superior handling and enhanced driver engagement on track for maximum performance. Precisely, the front end of the vehicle has been increased by 80 mm and includes more aggressive GT-style front splitter.

The carbon fibre MonoCage chassis is positioned behind the front wheels. It channels the air from around the wheel well. There is also an extra aerodynamic blade, which is mounted behind the wheelarch. It cleans the air from the front tyres. When one looks at the side of McLaren P1 GTR, one sees that it is lower than the road car. This was achieved via the race-prepared suspension with a fixed ride height.

The snorkel air intake is still present within the roof structure of the carbon fibre MonoCage chassis. Another difference is made in the wing mirrors, which are now positioned to the A pillars. In addition, the trailing edge of the door-mounted radiator channels has been extended to draw more air down through the cavity within the door, and into the engine to aid cooling.

P1 GTR runs on lightweight 19-inch motorsport alloy wheels. At the back of the car there is large, twin-element wing which is positioned on the carbon fibre pylons. The hydraulically operated Drag Reduction System (DRS) boosts acceleration performance, and increases levels of downforce.

Below the rear wing there is a centrally mounted exhaust with brand new design and made from inconel and titanium alloy. This system optimizes the output 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine, which now delivers up to 1,000 horsepower (735 kW). The design concept which was shown at Pebble Beach event wears a livery inspired by the original F1 McLaren with chassis number 01R.

  • McLaren to debut 650S Sprint at 2014 Pebble Beach

    McLaren-650S-Sprint_thumbMcLaren-650S-Sprint_651

The 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be remembered with the debut of one more sports car – the McLaren 650S Sprint. This will be the race car’s global debut along with a number of other models from McLaren Automotive, four of which will debut at the same Californian event, scheduled for later this year.

As the name of the vehicle suggests the McLaren 650S Sprint is based on the already released McLaren 650S Coupe but the newcomer arrives with a number of important enhancements that include new developments to the Brake Steer system, more refined aerodynamics and a race set-up for the ProActive Chassis Control (PCC). All these improvements deliver a more engaging GT racing experience, without losing any of the refinement and balance found in the road car.

But the new features of the McLaren 650S Sprint do not end here – the new car comes with an aerodynamically optimized design, increased levels of downforce and optimized cooling for the 3.8-liter twin-turbo M838T engine the car comes with. This is the same engine, which is featured in the McLaren 650S Coupe but it also comes with unique engine and transmission calibration for even better on-track driveability and driver engagement. Weight has also been minimized thanks to the strong carbon fiber MonoCell chassis but driver safety has not been compromised. A lightweight carbon fiber HANS-approved racing seat, with full six-point harness, offers an optimized driving position, while an air-conditioning system is retained adding comfort. An integrated fire extinguisher system is also installed.

At the same time the McLaren 650S Sprint shares some design features with the McLaren 650S GT3 race car like a larger motorsport fuel “bag” tank with quick-fill connectors, optimized cooling from the larger GT3-developed front radiator with a GT3-inspired bonnet integrating radiator exit ducts and more. The 650S Sprint  has a lower ride height with recalibrated adaptive damping for revised spring rates, and sits on 19-inch center-locking racing wheels, fitted with Pirelli slick or wet tires, while an onboard air jacking system enables quick tire changes. Stopping power is also enhanced and provided by a race-prepared braking system developed for the 650S Sprint. This system combines with the road car’s highly effective Brake Steer system and enhanced active aerodynamics to offer superior braking performance. This allows for later braking into corners, but also improved brake feel and greater cornering speeds. A range of options is also available including a computational fluid dynamics developed aerodynamics package including carbon fiber rear wing and front splitter a passenger seat with six-point harness, and further lightweight components including a polycarbonate windscreen.

In the UK the new McLaren 650S Sprint will cost GBP 198,000 and will be available from all official McLaren retailers around the world.
