  • 2012 Hyundai i30

2012 Hyundai i30 will be exhibited at the IAA Frankfurt. Hyundai expects the new-generation i30 to build on the remarkable success of the original model – the company’s first car to be launched with the ‘i’ prefix, introducing a new nomenclature and heralding a new era for Hyundai in Europe.

“The new-generation i30 is recognisable thanks to the Hyundai family face with its signature hexagonal-shaped front grille and the jewel-like design of the headlamps, together with distinctive daytime running lights. These lights present an angular shape within a more softly-edged recess, adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury.”, said Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre.

It is one of the best-selling C-segment hatchbacks in Europe. It’s main rivalry is against Opel Astra, Ford Focus and of course Volkswagen Golf. However, the i30 passed over 115 000 units sold across the old continent.

The award-winning Five Year Triple Care package provides five years of unlimited-mileage warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.

The company’s press conference will take place in Hall 6 at 12:00 (CET) on Tuesday 13th September 2011.

  • Hyundai Ix35 FCEV Uk Debut

EcoVelocity visitors can be among the first in the world to experience future travel in a hydrogen-powered car, with passenger rides available in the ix35 FCEV. The vehicle is Hyundai’s third-generation FCEV and it demonstrates the company’s work on cutting-edge alternative fuels.

Boasting the same convenience as today’s vehicles powered by traditional internal combustion engines, the ix35 FCEV has a driving range of 360miles (580 Km), a maximum speed of 100 mph and zero-to-62mph time of 12.8 seconds. The fuel cell stack can operate at sub-zero temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius, and unlike a combustion-engined car, the ix35’s only emissions are water vapour.

This vehicle moves Hyundai closer to the commercialisation of fuel cell electric vehicles, and the aim is to bring an FCEV to market in the next few years.

Earlier this year, the Hyundai Motor Group signed a memorandum of understanding with four Northern European countries to operate test fleets of FCEVs. Test drives have already been carried out in Korea and Copenhagen.

    Hyundai ix35 FCEV
    Hyundai ix35 FCEV

Hyundai UK’s managing director, Tony Whitehorn, commented: “We are extremely excited to be showcasing the ix35 FCEV in the UK for the first time at EcoVelocity. Hyundai is a world leader in the development of hydrogen-powered technology and is constantly researching and developing modes of transportation that use alternative fuels at the Eco-technology research institute in Mabuk, Korea.

“The ultimate goal would be to see zero-emission vehicles on UK roads within the next few years; however, the market and local infrastructure will be the real determinant of this. In the interim, Hyundai is working hard to make internal combustion engines as efficient as possible.”

Also featuring on the Hyundai stand will be the sub-100g/km CO2 i10 Blue and the recently launched i20 Blue. The i10 Blue is powered by a 1.0-litre Kappa three-cylinder petrol engine returning an impressive 67.3mpg combined. The i20 Blue is powered by a 1.4-litre CRDi four-cylinder engine with76.4mpg on a combined cycle. Due to their low emissions, both vehicles offer exemption from VED and the London Congestion Charge.

Visitors will also be able to see Hyundai’s two newest models on the stand – the all-new i40 Tourer, due to go on-sale on September 8 and the Veloster coupe due to launch later this year.

EcoVelocity will run from September 8 -11th at Battersea Power Station and will feature the latest green models, including electric, hybrid and low CO2-emitting cars, as well as providing test drives on a specially-constructed circuit in the shadow of the famous power station.

  • Hyundai i10 Blue – Most Genuinely Economical Petrol Engined Car

Hyundai i10 Blue is powered by a new ultra-efficient 1.0 litre petrol engine withIntelligent Stop & Go technology. The three-cylinder power unit delivers 68BHP, which is not enough for fast overtaking, but it is superb for everyday driving in the city.

Mainly, because of the great fuel economy – 67.3MPG and the low CO2 emission – 99 g/km. 0 to 100 km/h takes 14.8 seconds, which is a whole second quickere than the previous model. Hyundai i10 stands on small 13” wheels fitted with low-rolling resistance tires.

“Nothing gets our users going quite like fuel economy: when consumption in real life fails to live up to the official published figure, they soon let us know about it. So it’s good to be able to reward the models which come closest to matching – or improving on the official fuel consumption figure and the Hyundai i10 Blue is one of the best examples of this by genuinely delivering over 60mpg in real-world driving.”, commentedDan Harrison, Editor, HonestJohn.co.uk.

Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai Motor UK managing director: “Hyundai is committed to researching and developing cleaner, more efficient powertrains to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.  The Blue drive system – which includes an ultra-efficient 1.0-litre petrol engine and Intelligent Stop & Go technology – ensures that the i10 Blue is one of the cheapest cars to buy and run on sale today.”, he added.

The interior has a few changes to the Blue to mark it from other i10s, save for some BlueDrive badging on the doors and tailgate.

  • Hyundai 1.6L T-GDI – 211PS and 265Nm

Hyundai will put the new 1.6 litre T-GDI turbo petrol engine in the 2012 Veloster and later it will also appear in the upcoming 2013 Hyundai ix30 and next-generation Kia ceed. The turbocharger will significantly improve the performance and the response of the engine.

The turbocharger also increases efficiency at low engine speeds, which lowers emissions and improves the fuel consumption.

    The 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 211PS (155 kW) at 6000RPM and 265Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque between 1600RPM and 5000RPM.

The 1.6L T-GDI direct-injection engine is a part of the manufacturer’s new initiative called Blue Drive which aims to lead the automobile industry in fuel efficiency and sustainability.

More details will be available after the official revealing of the engine at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

  • Hyundai Blue2 fuel-cell concept

Hyundai Blue2 fuel-cell concept is exhibited at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show.

The car is powered by a fuel cell stack with power of 122PS (90 kW) that delivers 34.9 km/liter. Blue2 is an attempt of getting ahead of its rivals in the race for hydrogen-powered electric vehicle technology. The car will show the comfort and capabilities that a fuel-cell sedan can provide. It will be a very good choice, because the petrol is getting more expensive each year.

Hyundai Blue2 has a futuristic design and features rear-view cameras that replace the side-mirrors. There is also an automatic door opening system. The interior boasts wide seats for easy access and the Transparent Organic LED monitor on the center console. Finally, the car offers Motion Sensor Moustick – a wheel and sensor that create a new way for the driver to more easily operate the multimedia system.
