  • Hyundai i20

Hyundai Motor unveils the new i20. The car has a refreshed, stylish design and offers a comprehensive safety package and best-in-class connectivity features. It will hit the roads soon.

    Elegant and sporty design

The new i20 has a modern and stylish exterior that is sure to turn heads. The front bumper, radiator grille, and rear bumper have been redesigned, and new taillights and 16- and 17-inch wheels have been added to enhance the overall look. The model has received praise for its dynamic design, which combines proportion, architecture, styling, and technology on both the interior and exterior.

Thanks to its low roof profile and long wheelbase, the i20 retains its sporty stance while improving aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. The vehicle’s dynamic light signature, highlighted by Z-shaped LED rear lamps, adds to its bold look. The interior is spacious, with plenty of room for passengers and a generous 352 litres of boot space.

The i20 is available in eight exterior colours, including three new colours: Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Grey Pearl, and Meta Blue Pearl. The model’s interior features a vibrant new Lucid Lime colour package, which includes lime-coloured stitching and a sporty pattern on the seats.

Overall, the new i20 is a stylish and dynamic addition to Hyundai’s line-up, with plenty of features that make it stand out from the crowd.

    Seamless technology

The new i20 offers the latest connectivity features, making it an even more convenient vehicle for passengers. It has a standard 4.2-inch LCD cluster, USB type-C, second-generation eCall using 4G network, and Over-the-Air (OTA) map updates. Popular features from the previous model, like the optional 10.25-inch cluster and display screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charger, and Bluelink® telematics, are also available.

The new model now includes more Hyundai Smart Sense safety features as standard. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) for ‘City’, ‘Interurban’, and ‘Pedestrian’ now includes ‘Cyclist’, helping detect and avoid potential accidents with obstacles ahead. Lane Following Assist (LFA) ensures that the vehicle stays in the current lane of travel.

Optional safety systems, such as Rear Cross-traffic Collision Assist (RCCA), Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA), and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), are also available. RCCA applies the brakes while backing out of a parking space if a collision with vehicles to the rear and side is detected. BCA uses visual alerts to avoid collisions with other vehicles, while NSCC uses the vehicle’s navigation system to adjust speed for safer driving on curves and straights on motorways.

    Enhanced convenience for more comfort

The new i20 is an ideal option for European drivers seeking a vehicle with a stylish and sporty design. The updated model now uses LED technology for improved in-car illumination, replacing traditional light bulbs. Passengers can also enjoy multicoloured ambient lights that can be adjusted to match their mood. Additionally, the car is equipped with a BOSE® Premium Sound System for an enhanced audio experience.

Engine options for optimised fuel consumption

The new i20 is equipped with a 1.0 T-GDi engine, which is available in 100 PS or 120 PS and is designed for optimal performance and efficiency. Drivers can choose between a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) or a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), both of which provide a smooth and responsive driving experience. With iMT, the engine can be decoupled from the transmission to save fuel when the accelerator is released, allowing the car to enter a coasting mode.

Production of the new i20 is set to begin in the third quarter of 2023 at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Izmit, Turkey, with additional variants to follow.

The i-range prioritizes quality, reliability, and practicality, making it an ideal choice for customers’ daily needs. Furthermore, the range has evolved over time to include more stylish designs, advanced connectivity options, and comfortable interiors that do not compromise on accessibility.

    Disclaimer: CO2 and emissions data

The new i20 is not yet available for purchase, and the CO2 emissions have not yet been certified.

The pricing and specifications for the UK market are still to be announced.

The new model features a sportier design than its predecessor, with a low-slung and elegant profile, more aggressive styling, and advanced technology. The updated exterior design is based on Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” philosophy and takes a fresh approach to the four-door coupe concept.

The new SONATA boasts an N Line-based exterior design that conveys a sports coupe style with a long hood, low front-end, and fastback roof line. The horizontal front-end layout integrates Hyundai’s signature Seamless Horizon Lamp, hidden headlamps, wide grille, and air intake, giving the vehicle a more dynamic and aggressive appearance. Its exterior design exudes “The Sportiness” with sharp, linear elements and clean, supple surfaces, while the interior creates a futuristic mood with a “floating” theme and high-tech details that cater to modern lifestyles. The new SONATA is a significant upgrade from its predecessor and promises to deliver a more advanced and enjoyable driving experience.

  • Hyundai i10

Hyundai Motor has revealed the new i10 – which arrives with an upgraded and refreshed design. Customers have the option to purchase the sporty i10 N Line variant, which is inspired by Hyundai’s high-performance N models.

The company has also added advanced connectivity features, comfort elements, and technologies that are usually only seen in higher segments. This progressive move makes the model even more competitive in its class.

    Bold and unique design

The new i10 has seen a design upgrade both in and out compared to the original, which launched in 2019. The model now boasts a sportier stance and gives off a bolder feeling thanks to its low roof and long wheelbase.

Inside, the model is outfitted with blue mood lamps in the front seats. A new colour package, the Purple Package, brings a sense of playfulness to the car’s sporty exterior design.

It offers tartan fabric seats with vertical purple lines, as well as purple touches in the stitching and air vents. Grey touchpoints with a purple sheen, as seen in the crash pad and lower central console, add extra style.

The i10 N Line has design features inspired by motorsport, including bespoke bumpers, inserts, and red touches. The backs of the seats feature triple red line fabric, and the model comes with new 16-inch alloy wheels.

    Smart technology

Seamless connectivity features not only make the new i10 more technologically advanced, but they also make the in-car experience more convenient. New technologies in the model include a standard 4.2-inch LCD cluster, USB type-C in the front and rear, second-generation eCall based on the 4G network, and Over The Air (OTA) map updates. However, the model remains consistent with the 8‑inch display screen, Audio Video Navigation (AVN), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger, and the latest update to Bluelink® telematics.

The model also comes standard with more Hyundai Smart Sense safety features. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) for ‘City’, ‘Interurban’, and ‘Pedestrian’ has also been expanded to include ‘Cyclist’. FCA helps detect and avoid potential accidents with obstacles ahead. Lane Following Assist (LFA) uses steering control to help the car stay in the current lane of travel. Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) reminds the driver with a message in the cluster if the rear door had been opened during the journey – to prevent anyone or anything in the rear seat from being left behind.

    More comfort and convenience

The new i10 remains a practical choice for European drivers. Progressive in the A-segment, the model is outfitted with power folding mirrors. And like its predecessor, it offers a boot capacity of 252 litres with the seats up and 1,050 litres with the seats folded, a two-stage luggage board, one-handed rear seat folding, and a rear-view camera.

Production of the new i10 is planned to begin in April 2023 at Hyundai’s production plant in Izmit, Türkiye. The first units are expected to arrive on European roads in the second half of the year.

    Hyundai’s i-range

Hyundai’s i-range – comprising of i10, i20, and i30 – has been a success story for the company in Europe. As three of the brand’s most popular models, the i-range has always stood for quality, reliability, and practicality, supporting its diverse customer base in their everyday lives. Over time, the i-range has undergone changes to boast dynamic styling, advanced connectivity features, and uncompromised accessibility and comfort.

  • Hyundai Kona

Hyundai has showcased the 2024 Kona Electric, Limited, and N Line models at the New York International Auto Show, making their debut in North America. The Kona, which is a premium small SUV, comes in different powertrain options, with the all-electric variant leading the pack, providing advanced safety, convenience, and an impressive electric range of 260 miles, as per initial estimates by Hyundai. The second-generation Kona offers one of the most comprehensive product packages in the small SUV category, with a wide range of powertrain options, including an electric and internal combustion engine, and a sporty N Line version. The new Kona will be available at U.S. dealers this summer, and the Kona Electric will arrive in the late fall.

In an unusual move, Hyundai prioritized the electrified powertrain while developing the new Kona platform, aligning with the company’s plan to expedite electrification, which includes introducing 11 new Hyundai EVs worldwide by 2030.

“The all-new Kona and Kona Electric continue to build upon our extremely successful first-generation model, with outstanding efficiency, innovative technologies, distinctive styling, and comprehensive safety features,” said José Muñoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America. “The new Kona Electric represents the next step forward in eco-friendly mobility solutions, a key model in Hyundai’s rapid transition to clean mobility and progress for humanity.”

The all-new Kona retains its distinctive style with a robust, active design and larger dimensions, catering to the needs of active customers of all ages. It comes equipped with innovative technologies and convenience features that ensure a safe, connected, and comfortable ride. Some of the upgrades include dual panoramic display screens measuring 12.3 inches, Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system, Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, and Digital Key 2 Touch.

The Kona Electric model is powered by a 64.8-kWh battery that is expected to offer a range of up to 260 miles based on Hyundai’s preliminary internal testing. The battery can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 43 minutes using the available 400V fast-charging capability. The standard battery, on the other hand, is estimated to provide approximately 197 miles of range based on initial internal tests.

The all-new model has unique proportions, featuring increased dimensions and interior volume. The length of the Kona internal combustion version is now 171.3 inches, which is 5.7 inches longer, while the wheelbase has increased by 2.3 inches to 104.7 inches. Additionally, the overall width is now 71.9 inches, which is a full inch wider than its predecessor.

    EV-driven Exterior Design

Hyundai took an unconventional approach to the development of the 2024 Kona, using an EV-to-ICE development process. This resulted in a futuristic exterior that emphasizes the Kona’s unique look, combining sleek and rugged design elements.

The new Kona Electric boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.27, making it aerodynamically efficient without compromising on style. The sculpted wheel arch armor, parametric surfaces, and dynamic chrome lines connecting the belt line to the rear spoiler and center high-mounted stop lamp add character to the vehicle’s pure volume. The Electric variant also features a Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp and Pixel graphics, adding a unique touch. Furthermore, the Kona offers a range of vivid exterior colors that cater to the diverse lifestyles of a broad spectrum of customers.

    Roomier and More Versatile Interior

Hyundai designed the Kona’s larger interior space to cater to a wider range of customer lifestyles, thanks to its EV-based universal architecture and upscaled dimensions. The driver-centric front row features a floating horizontal C-Pad and two 12.3-inch panoramic display screens.

The shift-by-wire gear selector has been relocated from the center console to a stalk behind the steering wheel, freeing up space in the open console area. This highlights the Kona’s spacious interior, which offers a versatile and comfortable space for driver and passengers. Driver controls have been moved around the steering wheel to make way for a multi-use center console with a rotational cupholder design. Ambient interior lighting options correspond to drive modes, acceleration, or to suit the driver’s mood. The second row features a Curveless Bench Seat, allowing maximum rear passenger legroom. Furthermore, a two-stage latching system enables rear seat reclining.

The second-row seat and rear compartment of the new Kona are fully foldable, providing 25.5 cubic feet of rear cargo volume with seatbacks up and 63.7 cubic feet with seatbacks folded down. Loading cargo is now more convenient with the available Smart Power Tailgate that makes accessing cargo space easier.

    EV-Specific Features

Kona Electric has several unique features to enhance the driving experience, including battery preconditioning to ensure optimal performance in colder temperatures and a charging port door lamp for visibility at night. Additional features include forward storage, active grille shutters, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability for charging other electrical equipment. The i-PEDAL driving mode and Smart Regenerative System adjusts regeneration according to traffic conditions. With the bi-directional onboard charger, the V2L function can power devices or charge electrical equipment using the available V2L adapter from the front charging port.

The i-PEDAL feature of the Kona Electric allows drivers to control acceleration, deceleration and stopping using only the accelerator pedal. The Smart Regenerative System adjusts the level of regenerative braking based on real-time traffic flow data for greater efficiency.

Refined and Efficient Internal Combustion Powertrains

Hyundai prioritizes high efficiency for Kona powertrains. Kona has two gasoline powertrain options, including a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson engine with an estimated 147 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 132 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm. This engine is paired with a Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) to optimize fuel efficiency. The Atkinson cycle design focuses on maximizing the cylinder expansion ratio during the compression stroke to improve efficiency.

The 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine in the N Line and Limited trims delivers an estimated 190 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700-4,500 rpm, ensuring smooth acceleration in urban driving. The engine provides low-RPM responsiveness in everyday driving conditions, with peak torque starting at just 1,700 rpm and holding through 4,500 rpm. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that offers excellent efficiency, seamless shifting, and brisk acceleration.

    Responsive and Refined Chassis Tuning

Hyundai designed Kona with improved driving dynamics and responsive performance in mind, specifically for various driving conditions in urban and multi-surface areas. Kona’s planted stance, resulting from its long wheelbase, short overhangs, and wide track, provides exceptional agility in urban environments, with improved linear stability and ride comfort. Kona’s internal combustion models come with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and a hollow stabilizer bar design. Kona AWD models are equipped with a multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar, while FWD models have a refined torsion beam rear axle design. Kona Electric models feature a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and a multi-link rear suspension.

    Kona N Line Sporty Variant

The N Line model has many features including bodycolor cladding, 19-inch N Line alloy wheels, N Line rear spoiler, dual-outlet exhaust tips, Bose premium audio, sport seating with red accents, aluminum sport pedals, N Line scuff plates, and black mirrors. The front and rear fascia designs are wing-shaped and aggressive to give a sportier appearance and emphasize a lower stance.

  • Hyundai Grandeur

Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the bold new design of its seventh-generation Grandeur, badged as Azera in markets outside Korea, flagship sedan. The all-new model comes six years after the sixth generation launched in 2016.

Since its original debut as Hyundai’s high-end sedan in 1986, Grandeur has led the Korean sedan market, with design and innovations that stand for success and premium quality. The seventh-generation Grandeur has evolved into a model with a new level of refinement and sophistication, full of innovative design cues and high-tech details, which reflects the great transformation happening in the mobility sector without losing sight of the model’s tremendous heritage.

“The seventh-generation Grandeur expresses our respect for the past and commitment to move on to the future,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center. “We are creating a new standard for the premium sedan market through emotive design and a refined customer experience.”

Creating an exterior design that perfectly fuses art and technology

The All-New Grandeur’s exterior design takes inspiration from previous models and applies Hyundai Motor’s philosophy to reflect on its past while setting a course for the future.

One of the model’s most prominent aspects is its pure volume and excellent sense of proportions that balance premium and dynamic styling attributes. The All-New Grandeur is defined by a Seamless Horizon Lamp inspired by the first light of dawn, accentuating the model’s wide stance and harmonizing with its parametric jewel grill. The Seamless Horizon Lamp is a perfect fusion of technology and art and characterizes Grandeur’s future-focused design sensibility.

The large sedan’s pure volume is accentuated by a single character line that runs smoothly and horizontally from the headlamps to the rear combination lamp over clean, uncluttered body sides with frameless doors and auto-flush handles that reflect the model’s contemporary style and refinement.

Grandeur’s stretched wheelbase harmonizes with the boldly receding cowl point and C-pillar to provide an excellent sense of spaciousness as well as dynamic and sporty proportions.

The ‘Seamless Horizon’ design is also applied to the signature combination lamp that spans the taut rear end, emphasizing the model’s slim yet confident stance.

An interior that serves as an oasis for relaxation and recovery

For the All-New Grandeur, Hyundai Motor created a wrap-around interior space trimmed in premium and sustainable materials to provide a clean, comfortable respite for busy lives.

The ambient mood lighting spreads softly across the door trim and the front of the dashboard, and interactive lighting on the upper right of the integrated display provides a new user experience. The pattern details on the door trim are designed with a delicate Korean aesthetic. Together, these elements provide passengers a calming space for relaxation and recovery.

The steering wheel was also inspired by the single-spoke design of the first-generation Grandeur and reborn in its current form by integrating and rearranging controls to provide a more optimized layout for the driver. With the gear knob moved to the steering wheel, the console space provides neat and clean storage conveniences and wireless charging tailored for diverse customer lifestyles and connectivity needs.

On the sleekly styled interior surfaces, designers applied real wood, aluminum and naturally dyed Napa leather quilted in a traditional Korean pattern to provide further differentiation and refinement. The sedan’s interior and exterior abound with sustainable materials. In addition to eco-process Napa leather, there is hygienic, anti-bacterial leather applied to various touchpoints.

    Hyundai N’s vision on electrification

Since launching its very first high-performance production road car in 2017, Hyundai i30 N, N has pushed the limits of performance to help customers discover how fun driving can be. The brand claim is ‘Never just drive’ because getting from A to B should never be boring. Even in the electric future, N brand pursues its three pillars: corner rascal (tight, perfectly balanced cornering machine), racetrack capability (all N models are built to perform directly on the track) and everyday sportscar (for everyone and every need, not just track days and highways).

“In just seven years, Hyundai N has become the fastest evolving performance brand,” says Till Wartenberg, Vice President of N Brand Management & Motorsport Sub-Division at Hyundai Motor Company. “N is moving forward to set new standards in sustainable high performance. We enthusiastically start this new chapter of electrified high-performance and will pursue this goal by using our creativity, engineering expertise and competitive spirit.”

Introducing RN22e, a glimpse of upcoming EV N

RN22e offers racetrack-ready performance by refining and optimizing Hyundai’s market-leading E-GMP and packaging it in an IONIQ 6-based streamliner design. As Hyundai N’s first rolling lab based on E-GMP, RN22e shows the electrified N brand’s vision and direction while opening the possibility of a high-performance EV model in the future. The concept received its name because it is the rolling lab of N brand developed in 2022 with EV performance.

RN22e is tested to maximize N’s three performance pillars, starting with ‘corner rascal.’ N has been developing cornering capability since the brand launch and has been providing e-LSD, Corner Carving Differential, for most N models. RN22e elevates the corner carving feel with inevitably heavier weight, by exploring torque vectoring by twin clutch. Moreover, the 3D printed parts reduce weight and keep the rigidity for better corner attack. Equipped with AWD, RN22e provides optimized torque distribution according to different drive modes that allows drivers to choose the torque power on the front and rear wheels.

To enhance RN22e’s racetrack capability, N focused on cooling and braking to enhance endurance. RN22e provides track-optimized settings to let customers enjoy the circuit without derating. Having four piston monoblock calipers and a 400-mm hybrid disc allows RN22e to withstand the weight of its power electric (PE) system. In addition, Hyundai N will use RN22e to study how to deliver dynamic movement with regen-braking that precisely controls yaw and corner attack.

    2022 Hyundai RN22e Concept

As Hyundai N develops and verifies state-of-the-art technologies for transfer to N production models, RN22e plays an important role as the rolling lab for upcoming EV N models. Knowing what exhilarates enthusiasts, N is developing new features, such as the emotional driving experience for electrified models. RN22e provides N Sound+, which generates sound from the interior and exterior speakers, for a dynamic driving feel. In addition, N e-shift integrates the vibration and shifting feel with N Sound+. As it is a rolling lab, where Hyundai N continuously develops advanced technologies, these emotional driving experiences will be further developed in various types via RN22e, so that drivers can select their own fun.

By adapting IONIQ 6’s streamliner design, RN22e will leverage the new EV’s aerodynamic features. In order to maximize the performance, Hyundai N has added motorsports-inspired details. Through low ground clearance and emphasized shoulders, Hyundai N achieved a design with a wide and sturdy stance. While maintaining IONIQ 6’s design, the lower bumper has been designed to be sporty, radiating an unexpected charm. With these functional aesthetics, RN22e could improve its cooling and aerodynamics.

Measuring 4,915 mm long, 2,023 mm wide and 1,479 mm tall on a 2,950 mm wheelbase, RN22e will continue to develop with motorsports expertise, so Hyundai can hone and perfect its advanced technologies to launch a mass-production electric N model utilizing the potential of E-GMP.

    Introducing N Vision 74

Inspired by Hyundai Motor’s heritage, N Vision 74 is a high-performance hydrogen fuel cell hybrid rolling lab that underlines the company’s leadership in sustainable performance technology. N Vision 74 is inspired by both technology and design, rooted in N’s sustainable vision announced in 2015 and Hyundai’s passion for high performance since 1974.

In terms of design, N Vision 74 pays an homage to the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974, which was developed by the legendary car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The concept was then built into prototypes for Hyundai’s first production sports car. Although it could not reach production in the end, the daring attitude set the tone for the entire company.

N Vision 74 inherited the pure surface, the dynamic proportioned profile and the unique B pillar from the 1974 Pony Coupe concept. Hyundai’s design heritage meets the electrification era with high performance to shape N Vision 74. In addition, Parametric Pixel lighting provides a futuristic flourish.

“N Vision 74’s future-oriented design reflects the respect and appreciation we have for the dedication and passion that went into the Pony Coupe concept,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center.

N Vision 74 elevates the daring attitude of the Pony Coupe concept into a future Hyundai design, while reinterpreting the interior as an entertaining space without losing the pure architecture of the Pony Coupe concept. It is equipped with a driver-centric cockpit with a blend of heritage elements and modern design, such as digital cluster and analogue buttons.

    2022 Hyundai N Vision 74 Concept

Measuring 4,952 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,331 mm tall on a 2,905 mm wheelbase, it is the first high-performance rolling lab built on the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell system that Hyundai N has ever created. But this is not the first time for N to deal with fuel cell technology. N Vision 74 is also inspired by the concept car Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo, which was unveiled in 2015 with the launch of N brand to envision the future of hydrogen-based high performance.

Just seven years later, Hyundai N is introducing N Vision 74, setting its sights even further by realizing its passion for ‘fun to drive’ and imagination. Hyundai’s engineers developed a hybrid structure of a battery-electric in combination with an FCEV system, which is placed in an all-new layout. By having fuel cell system and battery-electric powering the N Vision 74 together, the cooling efficiency is improved, while the two different power sources can be used depending on different driving conditions. This fine-tuned logic system enables better torque vectoring by twin motors on the rear, allowing a precise and responsive cornering experience. Moreover, N Vision 74 explores the balance between the performance and cooling with a three-channel cooling system.

The high-performance technology is fully integrated into the design to fulfil the FCEV’s heat management requirements. With such functional aesthetics, N Vision 74 explores the balance between state-of-the-art-technology and iconic design. Along with long-range and fast refueling capabilities, N Vision 74 guarantees driving fun with a sustainable power source via the application of cutting-edge technologies.

History and Future of Hyundai rolling labs

In 2012, Hyundai embarked on Project RM to showcase its expertise in developing new technology and innovation. Through this project, the company develops and connects new high-performance technology from motorsport with future N models. The name of the project refers to the N prototype model’s ‘Racing Midship’ rear-drive, midship powertrain configuration. The fundamental difference of this design provides an ideal balance of handling and agility from a low polar moment of inertia.

Since its initiation, the RM series has progressively evolved to include RM14, RM15, RM16 and RM19. The RM platform facilitates an engineering rolling lab to test high-performance technologies while connecting to the tarmac at all speeds and driving conditions. Having undergone progressively extensive testing, RM models validate advanced technologies, observe their effective increase in performance, and improve them for application in future N models.

Two years ago, Hyundai introduced the next-generation electrified RM20e Racing Midship Sports Car. Within the RM series, RM20e was the first high-performance BEV. For the first time, Hyundai was able to apply the potential of zero-emissions powertrains to its high-performance cars.

Hyundai N has unveiled the new series of rolling labs under a different name to set the new standard of next-generation high performance. As the N brand continues to pursue its three pillars of N performance, RN22e and N Vision 74 are being tested to maximize racetrack capability, its everyday sports car characteristic and ‘corner rascal’ features. N will also stay true to its philosophy in the era of electrification.

As the initial big step, Hyundai Motor’s first electric N, IONIQ 5 N will hit the global market in 2023. More details about the first EV N will be unveiled later.

“These rolling lab projects are great assets to prepare the N’s electrification vision turning into reality, the IONIQ 5 N next year,’’ added Vice President Wartenberg of Hyundai Motor Company.

    Inspired by motorsport

Motorsport is considered the cradle of the N model lineup. For Hyundai’s Motorsport division, success is defined in broader terms than simply winning races and earning titles; it also exists to develop independent knowledge and collect data that can be shared with the company to enable Hyundai to build better cars. With its motorsport background, these benefits are transferred to consumer vehicles.

It is a two-way relationship between motorsport and production cars. The best elements of each type of car are used to improve the next. This knowledge transfer has a direct impact on Hyundai’s future N production models. New technologies are tested through motorsport, like the i20 N. The award-winning N model was inspired by the i20 Coupe WRC rally car. Everything Hyundai learns from motorsport is fed back into the R&D process to develop the next N model or performance project. The participation in ETCR implies Hyundai’s passion for sustainable high performance.

In line with its ‘Progress for Humanity’ vision, Hyundai is accelerating its electrification efforts to offer cleaner transportation and a more sustainable future. By pushing the limits of electrified high-performance cars, Hyundai will be prepared for tomorrow’s challenges and heralds an era of sustainable driving fun.

IONIQ 6’s human-centric design is both ethical and unique

IONIQ 6 demonstrates ethical and unique design through energy efficiency and sustainable material usage. IONIQ 6 design was human-centric from the start, with the interior space developed simultaneously with the exterior form. Efforts were made to maximize and optimise the interior space, stretching it at the front and rear, resulting in a unique streamliner silhouette and spacious interior.

Like the award-winning IONIQ 5 before it, IONIQ 6 implements the Hyundai Look design strategy that gives each model a unique appearance, like chess pieces. By taking a customer-centric direction, Hyundai designs with diverse lifestyles in mind rather than with a one-style-fits-all approach.

Single-curved streamliner with sleek yet functional aesthetics

IONIQ 6 is an electrified streamliner that realises the idea of Emotional Efficiency by simultaneously satisfying the customer’s aesthetic and functional needs. The aerodynamically sculpted silhouette with simple yet sensuous curves offer a new typology for the EV mobility era.

IONIQ 6 has an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.21, assisted by its low nose, active air flaps at the front, wheel gap reducers, and optional slim digital side mirrors[2]. Further aiding IONIQ 6’s enviable aerodynamic aptitude is its elliptical wing-inspired spoiler with winglet, slight boat-tail structure, and separation traps on both sides of the rear bumper. Even underneath the car, the endeavour to achieve better aerodynamics is evident in the full cover of the undercarriage, optimized deflectors and reduced wheel-arch gap.

IONIQ 6 also integrates over 700 Parametric Pixels in various places, such as headlamps, rear combination lamps, front lower sensors, air vent garnishes and centre console indicator, to reinforce the IONIQ brand’s identity throughout the vehicle.

The rear wing’s Parametric Pixel High-Mounted Stop Lamp (HMSL) delivers an eye-catching light execution when the brakes are applied. To further highlight IONIQ 6’s uniqueness, the newly designed Hyundai ‘H’ badge is applied on the front and rear of the vehicle.

Cocoon-inspired interior accommodates a mindful personal space on wheels

IONIQ 6’s cocoon-shaped interior serves as both a comfortable hideaway and personal space, replete with practical features and sustainable materials to facilitate a mindful, eco-friendly mobility experience and lifestyle.

Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) enabled the designers to stretch the interior, front and rear, to create optimized legroom and spaciousness that lets passengers stay comfortable in the vehicle. The Platform also allows for a completely flat floor, giving expansive feeling.

The user-centric interior architecture is exemplified by an ergonomically designed control unit that is centrally located to reduce distraction and spur safe, intuitive driving. The modular touchscreen dashboard integrates a 12-inch full-touch infotainment display and 12-inch digital cluster. A bridge-type centre console provides convenient and generous in-car storage.

Dual Colour Ambient Lighting provides overall illumination for IONIQ 6 interior. Users can choose from a spectrum of 64 colours and six dual colour themes developed by colour experts to help drivers and passengers feel relaxed and comfortable. The 4-dot Interactive Pixel Lights on the steering wheel enable easy communication between the driver and vehicle.

The removal of buttons from the front doors provided more breathing room and more storage. Transparent accents on the crash pad garnish, door map pocket and console lower cover further accentuate the sense of spaciousness and uniqueness.

Eco-friendly materials applied to various touchpoints for sustainability

In line with IONIQ 6’s Ethical Uniqueness theme and inspired by today’s eco-conscious consumers, the designers applied sustainable materials to the exterior, including recycled pigment paint from end-of-life tires to the cladding and bamboo charcoal pigment paint to the body.

IONIQ 6’s interior is also trimmed in sustainable materials and colours. Depending on the trim level, these include eco-process leather (seats), recycled PET fabric (seats), bio TPO skin (dashboard), bio PET fabric (headliner), bio paint derived from vegetable oils (doors), and recycled fishing net carpet — the latter is a first for the IONIQ brand.

IONIQ 6 on digital billboard and World Premiere

Upon the design reveal, Hyundai Motor releases immersive and impactful design 3D digital film at three global landmark billboard sites simultaneously. The film, featuring IONIQ 6’s streamlined design and flexible interior space, can be viewed at K-POP Square in Seoul, Piccadilly Circus in London, and the Big Kahuna in New York Times Square.

In addition, 2023 Palisade now applies nine standard airbags: dual front, dual side-front and rear, driver’s knee, and roll-over-sensing side-curtain airbags. Palisade uses a full-length large side curtain airbag that includes third-row seating coverage for enhanced rear occupant protection in the event of a collision. Palisade has a very rigid structure, with strategic use of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) in key areas to provide increased tensile-strength. Use of Advanced High Strength Steel has several benefits: lighter overall vehicle weight and greater vehicle strength and rigidity without the excessive costs of more exotic lightweight materials. Robust underbody and side structures are designed to increase energy absorption and cabin intrusion in a severe collision, especially in the small overlap test. Further, its underbody uses multiple load paths to better disperse potential crash energy in the event of a collision.

    New Rugged Palisade XRT Model

2023 Palisade will also offer a new, dark-themed, rugged XRT model to complement the Santa Fe and Tucson XRT models in the Hyundai SUV line-up. The Palisade XRT will include:

    • Rugged-look front and rear fascia with skid plate design elements
    • Rugged-look lower door trim
    • Dark-finish front grille

    Bluelink® Connected Car Feature Enhancements

Hyundai offers the latest version of its upgraded Bluelink® connected car services with the 2023 Palisade. This range of new features allows customers to control vehicle functions with their smartphone or voice to make their drive more convenient and enjoyable. New Bluelink features include Connected Routing, Last Mile Navigation, and a new User Profile feature.

Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) is an important safety feature within Bluelink. In the event of an accident and an airbag deploys, an Automatic Collision Notification signal can be automatically transmitted to the Bluelink Customer Care Center. A trained Bluelink response operator can attempt to establish voice communication with the vehicle occupants, dispatch appropriate services and remain on the line until help arrives.

New to 2023 Palisade, Bluelink-enabled features include:

    • Remote Profile Management stores select personalized driver preferences in the Bluelink cloud, and can remotely update and push-back to the vehicle
    • Remote Start Enhancements offer remote seat heating and ventilation functions as well as preloads of individual driver settings for seating position
    • Vehicle Status Notifications inform owners if the vehicle has doors unlocked or windows open
    • Maintenance Alert Enhancement tracks maintenance intervals in the multimedia system, with ability to reset

Palisade’s Dynamic Voice Recognition system accepts simple voice commands to conveniently control cabin A/C, radio, hatch opening/closing, heated steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, and other functions. The system can also assist with various points of interest (POI), weather status and stock market data updates.

The vehicles were also evaluated on an off-road course that simulated rough roads that some drivers often encounter. Plenty of loose dirt, deep ruts, steep climbs, and dramatic descents formed the second day’s route, challenging each vehicle’s four- or all-wheel-drive systems. The venue allowed the vehicles to showcase state-of-the-art technologies, including 360-degree cameras, hill descent controls, and state-of-the-art traction management systems.
