  • Toyota Offers First Glimpse and Details of Next-Generation GT86

2017 Toyota GT86 front viewBesides the Batman movie premiere next week, another major event that you should be looking forward to is the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). So far a lot of teasers have been released and we expect to see some stunning vehicles. However, Toyota was the first to actually show an NY debuting car with two images, and this is the next generation Toyota GT86. After the debut, the car will go on sale by the end of this year.

There are some major changes we can spot in the design f the vehicle. A lot of attention to the details has been paid and this is visible through the styling elements. Take for instance the enlarged central air intake that highlights the lower and wider stance of the GT86. In addition, at the front we see restyled bumper, fog light housings and LED headlamps and turn indicators in a new design. The alloys have been given twisted spokes.

Although there weren’t released any pictures of the cabin, Toyota says that the new GT86 will feature an interior with a combination of leather and Alcantara upholstery and Alcantara-wrapped instrument panel and doors. The new upholstery will be contrasted via silver stitching, while the sports steering wheel will have a brand new look and will sport integrated audio controls and an 86 logo.

In terms of driving dynamics, the GT86 from the 2017 model year will be equipped with new suspension, with revised shock absorber tuning and spring rates. Despite the changes so far and the expectations for modifications on the engine, it will stay unaltered, meaning that the GT86 will be driven by the well known front-mounted, naturally aspirated 2.0-litre “boxer” engine that drives the rear wheels.

Besides the new MY2017 GT86, Toyota has been also developing a racing variant, GT86 CS-Cup, which will compete at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The GT86 CS-R3 version of it will be available to customers for rallying events.

  • Ryan Millen and His Trustworthy Toyota RAV4 SE Are Ready for Some Track Action

2016 Toyota RAV4 SE The new race season begins with tons of ordealsand challenges, but race driver Ryan Millen and his trustworthy Toyota RAV4 SE seem to be prepared for the Sandblast Rally in Cheraw, South Carolina this Saturday. As you might know, the race marks the beginning of NASA Rally Sport Atlantic Rally Cup, which is a 5-race competitive, and there will be more than 50 cars and 30 motorcycles at Sandblast. It all sounds like an epic event, doesn’t it?

In fact, drivers are not the only ones with pressure on them. The ever-critical navigator also plays a role. Actually, a key role. And luckily for Ryan, he will be accompanied by his trusty friend and colleague Christina Fate. The team made huge impression back at the Rally America’s Show Drift Rally, so we do have high expectations about this duet.

One of the major issues for the team is indeed the lack of time for preparation. The limited amount of time between the last rally and the upcoming is definitely not enough. But as we know, for Millen these races are much more than fun time of winning and losing, so we are pretty sure that he will make everything possible to drive himself to the victory.

  • Toyota Setsuna Concept: A Boat-Like Car that Deserves Your Attention

Toyota Setsuna Concept Car front View Toyota Setsuna Concept is a car that we won’t see every day. And although it is unusual topic for our online magazine, the effort that Toyota is making with it should be appreciated. As you can see on the picture, this vehicle is rather an object of art, then a regular car. And that’s was the purpose of the concept – to impress visitors at the Milan Design Week next month.

To go directly into details the car is really made primarily out of wood. This material was chosen for the project because it was one of the few which can capture the developing relationship between people and their cars and more specifically – the way objects that people use and how their appearance changes over the years. This means that Setsuna’s surfaces will gradually transform with the years it stays usable and drivable.

SEE ALSO: What Should We Expect from Toyota at the Geneva Show?

Standing for “moment” in Japanese, the name Setsuna was chosen to reflect how people can experience special and memorable experiences with their cars. In this lies the belief of Toyota that over time such collective moments can give cars a significant place in their owners’ lives.

More specifically, the designers at the brand picked different and distinctive types of wood for different parts of the car, including the exterior panels, frame, floor and seats. Exactly this gives Setsuna appealing characteristics not found in “normal” cars. For instance, it can last for many generations and its colour and texture will change in response to its environment.

Another interesting fact is that during the process of the building, Toyota used the traditional Japanese joinery technique called okuriari, which doesn’t use any nails or screws. As a result, the completed body line expresses a beautiful curve reminiscent of a boat.

It will be rather strange if we told you that the Setsuna is powered by a petrol or diesel engine. The concept car is driven by electric motor, but we didn’t receive any other specifics regarding its output. At last, to get the whole picture about this ship-like vehicle, it measures 3,030mm in length and 1,480mm in width, it is a two-seater and stands 970mm tall and has a 970mm wheelbase.

Toyota Setsuna Concept Car will be exhibited in public at 31 Via Tortona in Milan from 12 to 17 April.

  • Toyota Aygo x-clusiv: Is It Really “All You Could Want For 2016”?

A cool new club or restaurant, a hot new travel destination, the latest fashion look – everyone wants something new and different. The Toyota Aygo has already proved a big success as a fun and super-stylish city car that gives people the chance to make a statement with a wealth of personalisation features. Now there’s a new addition to the line-up, the 2016 x-clusiv, taking its place at the top of the range.

This newcomer majors on looks and the kind of luxury features more commonly found on larger (and more expensive) models. On the outside the Electro Grey metallic paintwork strikes a winning contrast with bright silver customisation features – the style-defining front ‘X’, front pillar extensions, front bumper trim and rear bumper insert. Rear privacy glass and 15-inch machined alloy wheels with a large silver centre cap add to the x-clusiv’s visual impact.

An x-wave electrically retractable canvas roof lets the whole cabin enjoy genuine open-top driving.

The cabin is every bit as stylish, with black leather upholstery, a gloss black centre console and Electro Grey detailing on the air vent, centre cluster and gear shift surrounds.

    2016 Toyota Aygo x-clusiv

Other features, carried forward from the previous x-clusiv model, include the x-touch multimedia system with DAB radio, rear-view camera and Bluetooth, climate control, carpet mats, and dusk-sensing headlights.

The x-clusiv can be specified in three or five-door body styles, all powered by Toyota’s characterful and fuel-frugal 1.0-litre VVT-i engine. Both the five-speed manual and x-shift automated manual versions achieve sub-100g/km CO2emissions, which means there is no annual road tax (VED) to pay. Fuel costs are kept down, too, with official combined consumption from 67.3mpg.

    2016 Toyota Aygo x-clusiv

Like all Aygo models, the x-clusiv is equipped with ABS with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, six airbags, Hill-start Control and a tyre pressure warning system. Customers can also significantly increase their car’s safety provision by specifying the optional Toyota Safety Sense package, which includes a Pre-Collision Safety system (with Forward Collision Warning, Pre-Crash Brake Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking) and Lane Departure Alert.

  • Ryan Millen in Toyota Rally RAV4 to Chase Multiple Championships This Year

2016 Toyota Rally RAV4 rally car Front ViewToyota RAV4 is going to be driven again by Ryan Millen, who piloted it last year to four out of five Western U.S. victories. The car will take a bigger stage this year, participating in rallies all over the U.S., chasing the Atlantic Rally Cup and the Pacific Rally Cup in NASA’s Rally Sport series. The team will probably enter the National Championship.

This year, Millen and his navigator Fate will race in a RAV4 SE for the 2016 model year. The vehicle has new livery which emphasizes the partners of Toyota. Exactly this vehicle was unveiled today at the Chicago Auto Show.

SEE ALSO: Toyota Announces Details about Future Races in 2016

There are no changes made to the powertrain, so this means that the car is powered by the standard RAV4 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 176 horsepower (130 kW) and 233 Nm (172 lb-ft) of torque. The crossover was specifically built to compete in the 2WD-Open Class. This is the reason why it is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

The modifications done here are in terms of safety, communications, and convenience and include a stout roll cage, driver/navigator communications system, air vents and helmet boxes. All of this can be viewed in the gallery below.

  • Say Last Goodbye to Scion Brand [w/video]

Scion Transitions to ToyotaYes, it is over for Scion brand, since it is already official that it is going to transition to Toyota. Below you can hear the Jim Lentz, founding vice president of Scion and now CEO of Toyota Motor North America, who tells the details about it and how he feels as an establisher of the brand.

Scion was founded in 2003 as a laboratory only, which aimed at exploring new products and processes in order to attract young customers. Sadly, after 13 years the brand is transitioning back to Toyota, and the reason for this is that Scion “has already achieved its goals” of developing unique products and bringing in youthful customers.

SEE ALSO: Scion Unveiled the 2016 C-HR Concept Vehicle

For this mount of time, the brand managed to sell more than a million cars, and an interesting fact is that 70 percent of them were purchased by customers new to Toyota and 50 percent of them were under 35 years old.

Lentz also said that this decision was made in “response to customers’ needs”, since younger people look for a combination of fun-to-drive vehicle with good looks and more practicality. And since Toyota has evolved, it now offers cars with more dynamic styling and handling.

Because of the transition of the brand, which will happen in August this year, all 2017 model year vehicles will be rebadged as Toyotas. This means that the FR-S sports car, iA sedan and iM 5-door hatchback will eventually become Toyotas. There will be a final release series edition of the tC sports coupe, which will end production in August as well. The C-HR Concept, which we have shown you in November and which debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show, will be a part of the Toyota line-up.

If you own a Scion and worry about the service and repair process, you will be unaffected by this change as you will continue visiting Toyota dealerships’ service departments.

Scion has had some amazing products that we will definitely going to miss. But we are looking forward to see all of the benefits that the brand has brought through the years in new Toyota models.
