  • A Trendy Seat Mii Mango Special Edition

Seat-Mii-Mango-Special-Edition-shadowSeat-Mii-Mango-Special-Edition-mediumWhat do you get when you take a Spanish fashion house and a Spanish car make (that’s actually supervised by a German company) and put mash them together. Why, the Glam Beige Seat Mii by Mango special edition of course. It’s the one car that will make its début on a fashion show rather than on a car show. That is to say, the 080 Barcelona Fashion event (27-31 January).

On the outside, the Mii special edition distinguishes itself with a special set of dark grey 15 inch alloy wheels, grey electric door mirrors and “Mii by Mango” badges at the back and on the B-pillar.

The interior is where most of the designer side of it really shines. Leathered steering wheel and gear stick, Alcantara upholstery on all seats with a beige trim and, again, “Mii by Mango” embossing. The door sills too read the same. The mirror on the driver sun visor and the glove box handbag hanger clearly hint that Seat are targeting a very specific group of people (women) with the Mii by Mango. Is that sexist?

The Mango Mii will be available in either 3 or 5-door versions and will be equipped similiarly to the Style trim line. That means ESC, ABS, front and lateral airbags for the front seats, head-thorax airbags, air conditioning, CD/MP3 audio system, hill hold control, central locking, power windows and more as standard.

  • Seat Leon ST 4Drive Arriving Soon

Seat-Leon-ST-4Drive-shadowSeat-Leon-ST-4Drive-mediumToday the Vienna Autoshow kicked off for a 3-day run. To be honest, there isn’t much hype around it. Seat, however, are taking the opportunity to debut and showcase their up-and-coming Leon ST 4Drive. That last bit means permanent four-wheel drive.

Seat’s 4Drive setup is pretty much identical to VW’s 4MOTION system which we discussed last week: the same Haldex 5 coupling, EDS dynamic control, and an extended differential lock (XDS without the ‘+’). It’s only natural, really. Afterall, Volkswagen is the parent company, and the Leon and Golf do share the same platform.

There are two TDI engines (and nothing else) available with the AWD ST Leons. One is a 105 PS 1.6-liter unit, while the other – a 2.0-liter – boasts 150 PS. Both are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. With start/stop systems and braking-energy regeneration both engines sip the diesel rather than guzzle it. Yet, the 2.0 has a 0 to 60 mph time of 8,7 seconds. That’s pretty impressive if we don’t forget that we are talking about a 4.5 meter long station wagon with 587-liters of luggage space (put the rear seats down and that number becomes 1,470 liters).

Standard equipment on both engine choices will include Seat’s Media System Touch, air conditioning, and power windows and power wing mirrors. The Style trim (available again with both engines) adds things like 16-inch alloy wheels, Media System Touch Colour, a leather steering wheel and cruise control. The FR trim (2.0-liter only) reinforces the sporty character of the Leon ST 4Drive with a particularly powerful front and rear design, 17-inch alloy wheels and a sporty suspension.

No picture material available yet, but the 4Drive shouldn’t look any different from the standard ST.

  • Seat Reveals Leon Cupra And Leon Cupra 280

2014-Seat-Leon-Cupra-280-THUMBThe quickest and most powerful series production car in Seat’s range is finally here. Seat Leon Cupra 280 is the top car of a five-strong family. It is capable of achieving less than 6 seconds acceleration time for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, while at the same time managing to deliver 44.1 mpg fuel consumption on average.

Leon Cupra comes as standard with a mechanical front axle differential lock, a progressive steering system, DCC dynamic chassis control and two-stage deactivation of the electronic stability control (ESC). The new Leon is built on a new chassis and has a wider front track and entirely independent front and rear suspension.

In other words Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 offer power, performance and dynamics. For example the Cupra 280, with optional DSG transmission, accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, or 5.8 seconds when equipped with the six-speed manual gearbox. The top speed is 155 mph.

The maximum torque of both models is 350 Nm from 1,750 rpm to 5,300 rpm. At the same time, the cars manage to deliver average fuel consumption of only 44.1 mpg and CO2 figures of just 149 g/km and 155 g/km.

Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 are equipped with 2.0 TSI turbo petrol engine which delivers 265 hp (195 kW) and 280 hp (205 kW), respectively. This serves in terms of fuel economy optimization and reduces particulate emissions. In addition, the efficiency package of the Cupra also features Start/Stop and Energy Recovery systems.

The impressive dynamics of the model rely on the low weight and a stiff structure. With DCC dynamic chassis control, a front-axle differential lock and progressive steering, the vehicles can deliver now faster acceleration and dynamism.

Furthermore, the new front-axle differential lock improves the traction and handling of this front-wheel drive car. In addition, this system also eliminates torque steer. Progressive steering system is also included as a standard here. It enhances agile handling of the car.

Seat Leon Cupra also features new design. Precisely, its front end now features large air intakes and full-LED headlamps, while at the rear one can see rear diffuser and two oval end pipes. The car runs on exclusive 19-inch wheels alloy wheels with a titanium paint finish, while the red brake callipers and tinted side and rear windows highlight additionally its individuality.

Inside, the Cupra features unique sports steering wheel with shifting paddles for the optional DSG transmission. There can also be seen the sports seats, in dark grey Alcantara finished with white stitching. As an option, Seat offers black full-leather upholstery with white stitching. The pedals and entry sills are made from aluminium.

Seat-Eurocup-Leon-THUMBSeat Leon Cup Racer is a high-performance race car and it contributes to brand’s motorsport tradition. The car will enter a total of six race events in six European countries, where the car will be renamed as Seat Leon Eurocup.

The Eurocup vehicle will offer customer teams a great driving experience for the 2014 season. It runs on 18-inch wheels and sports a new front end which has been specifically designed for optimum aerodynamic efficiency and maximum airflow to the engine and brakes.

  • Seat Altea And Altea XL I TECH Editions

    Seat-Altea-I-Tech-thumbSeat-Altea-I-Tech-medium

Bad news? Your friendly “family hatchback with the size of an MPV” Seat Altea Copa is no more. Well, actually the Capo edition edition itself is gone. Instead, you now get the universal I TECH edition. Both, the Altea and the Altea XL (like the Altea but bigger) will be sold now exclusively as I TECH editions with bundles of equipment and, as the name suggest, technology.

The newly added set of goodies consists of 16-inch titanium finish alloy wheels, front parking sensors, a color TFT screen for rear passengers, and forward sliding rear seats for added versatility.

While the choice of editions will now limited only to the aforementioned, one can still contemplate on the range of engines. That is, a Volkswagen Group 1.6 TDI Ecomotive diesel with 105 PS, the same engine coupled with a DSG automatic transmission, and a 2.0 TDI with 140 PS. By far the most economical option would be the manual 1.6 as it is quoted to be delivering 62.8 mpg combined (relevant to the XL as well). The other two share the same value of 57.6 mpg. Oh… and there are two new colors available as well: “Bahama Blue” and “Technic Grey”. So many decisions!

Additional equipment for the I TECH includes dark tinted rear windows, roof rails, dual zone climate control, automatic wipers and headlights, rear parking sensors, Seat Media System 2.2, a double floor boot, and overhead interior storage.

Best part? No changes in the outgoing price. That’s neat, Seat.

  • 2014 Seat Leon ST [video]

Seat has published a video on Youtube with the recently introduced 2014 Leon ST, which is expected to hit the market later this year.

After the introducing of Skoda Octavia Combi and Volkswagen Golf VII Variant, Seat responded with the Leon ST which seems to have the best design. Of course, all of them share same suspension, engines and some other technical issues. The 2014 Leon ST boasts 587-liter cargo capacity, which is the smallest, but it can be expanded to 1,470 liters once the rear seats are folded. This is more than enough even, if you have some large luggage.

The engine range includes a 1.2 liter TSI with 86HP (63 kW) and 105HP (77 kW), a 1.8 liter TSI with 180HP (132 kW) for the FR model. The diesels are a 1.6 liter TDI with 90HP (66 kW) and an FR-exclusive 2.0 TDI producing 184 HP (135 kW).

Seat UK has confirmed the Leon ST will be offered in a right-hand drive as well as a four-wheel drive variant with the 4Motion system borrowed from the Golf VII Variant 4Motion, of course.

  • 2014 Seat Leon ST – Style and Technology

Seat has announced the new 2014 Leon ST, which which now comprises five-door hatchback, three-door SC and five-door ST estate.

2014 Seat Leon ST boasts a 587-litre boot, and with the rear seats folded flat its load capacity extends to 1,470 litres. It has the same wheelbase as the 5-door hatchback but the rear overhang has grown by 270mm to offer more luggage space. The additional length has increased weight to 1,233 kg (2,718 lbs), so it is 45 kg heavier than the 5-door model, but still the “lightest estate in its class.”

    The engine range includes a 1.2 liter TSI with 86HP (63 kW) and 105HP (77 kW). There is also a 1.4 liter TSI with either 122HP (90 kW) or 140HP (103 kW). The FR model is powered by a 1.8 liter TSI with 180HP (132 kW) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The diesel line-up includes a 1.6 liter TDI with 90HP (66 kW) and 230Nm (170 lb-ft) and a 2.0 liter TDI with 150HP (110 kW). The FR diesel has 2.0 TDI with 184HP (135 kW) and 380Nm (280 lb-ft).

And with the debut of the Leon ST, SEAT is expanding the extensive line-up of hi-tech options already available with the model, introducing Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) damper adjustment, and Progressive Steering.

The optional Dynamic Pack, including DCC and Progressive Steering, enables a high degree of control under sporty driving conditions.

  • New Technology Pack For SEAT Leon

SEAT Leon is now going to be equipped with new Technology Pack, which will add to the standard specifications ground-breaking full-LED headlights. They will be added to the new model (its SE or FR specifications) at absolutely no price if it is ordered until the end of September.

The Navigation System option also includes an upgraded high-resolution colour touchscreen. The latter features a clever proximity sensor which detects when a hand is moving towards it. Then it activates additional onscreen options.

The full-LED headlamps on the other hand add to the exterior presence of the car, providing a light beam that’s closer to natural daylight. In addition, they also utilize less power, thus contributing in an enhanced fuel economy.

In fact, the light is measured using colour temperature in kelvins (K). The natural daylight for instance is estimated around 5500 K. The new LED headlights featured in the SEAT measure around 5300 K. In comparison, the xenon headlamps emit light which is registered at around 4200 K, while the halogen bulbs – at 3000 K.

This basically means that the featured LED headlamps will radiate purer light which is much closer to the natural light thus resulting in no colour distortion perceived by the eye. This decreases eye strain and enables the eyes to more effectively distinguish contrast between objects.

These headlights function on low beam and operate utilizing around half the power of a xenon bulb. In addition, they’re extremely durable, offering a life of at least 10000 hours.
