  • Updated Seat Alhambra is More Efficient but More Powerful

Seat Alhambra Front and Side ViewIf you are a fan of Game of Thrones, then you would probably know that some of the scenes are actually filmed in Alhambra in Granada, Spain. This is a very beautiful palace and fortress complex and was originally a very small fortress built in 889 but then dropped behind. What makes it so special is that it was eventually rebuilt in the mid-11th century by the Moorish emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar, who has made it famous for its looks. And here is where its name comes from, literally meaning: “the red one”.

But enough history talk, we are here to discuss the new generation Seat Alhambra that was just released and carries by accident (or not) the same name. The first thing to say about this MPV is that it is up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient, despite its increased output. Of course, the reason for this is the updated engine range.

It has been completely revised and all diesel and petrol powertrains in it fulfill the Euro 6 emissions standard. There are two 2.0 TDIs, with the first one delivering 150 hp (110 kW) that corresponds to 57.6 mpg and 130 grams of CO2 per km, and the second one with 184 hp (135 kW) and 380 Nm (288 lb-ft). There is also a 1.4 TSI petrol engine that joins the range and it will produce 150 hp. The optional transmission is the DSG dual-clutch automatic.

Furthermore, the new model is also equipped with SEAT Easy Connect infotainment systems. These comprise of high-resolution touchscreen displays and navigation. The other standard equipment here is the multi-collision brake system. New and optional are the Blind-Spot Sensor, Dynamic Chassis Control and those comforting massage seats.

Sadly, the exterior design of the car hasn’t been changed much. At the back we see LEDs, while at the front there is a new grille and logo of Seat. The wheels also feature different design. Inside, the Alhambra received additional trim colours, the steering wheel is now with SEAT Leon’s design and there is also a keyless entry and start system.

Seat Alhambra will be available in dealerships this summer.

  • The Car of the Future Will be Able to Avoid All Accidents

Every vehicle should be a combination of attractively-crafted design and ultimate safety, the latter, of course, being the key factor in every automotive industry. In attempts to create a car which is “capable of avoiding accidents totally in the future”, the experts from Seat Technical Centre are working hard, running a number of tests which serve to push them closer to the development of a smart and accident-preventing automobile.

Going into some details, Henrico Puttenstein, one of the engineers at the Technical Centre’s Department of Passive Safety explains that; “We launch different impact elements against the car, mimicking parts of the human body, such as a leg, hip or head.“ He, then continues and says;” The tests we carry out reduce the probability of serious injury in accidents to 20%.”

Interestingly enough, the start of the safety-measures began in 1970’s with the development of the safety-belt. But there is more than just safety-belts and airbags in the car when it comes to secure driving experience and environment. For instance, there is a specially-designed energy-absorbing area along with foams of different densities which are integrated behind the front bumper and the bonnet. Their function is to help reduce the force of the impact.

Still, the biggest ambition of Seat engineers is to craft a vehicle which is fitted with systems and technologies that are able to detect accident in advance and as a result “can change the speed and direction of a car autonomously” in order to avoid collision.

  • The New SEAT Leon ST Curpa Conveys Compact Sportiness

Seat revealed its top-of-the-range Leon ST Curpa which takes the Leon ST wagon bodylook and twists it through its own prism, thus turning it into the Curpa hot-hatch style we are able to see.

The new Seat Curpa three and five-door hatchbacks manage to condense simple style and utility along with a top-class performance. Both versions are powered by the well-known four-cylinder 2.0 turbocharged gasoline engine. The powerplant in the Leon ST Curpa can deliver 265 HP (195 kW) while the motor in the Leon ST Curpa 280 pushes out 280 HP (206 kW). Still, the cars produce a peak torque of 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

Among the models, the Curpa 280 represents the fastest version, fitted with the optional DSG gearbox which accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6 seconds. When we compare it to the manual gearbox, the first one is 0.1 quicker. As a result, the regular Leon ST Curpa covers the 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 6.1s with the DSG and in 6.2s with the six-speed manual. The top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) is reached by all Curpa variants.

Let’s talk about equipment now. The new Seat Leon ST Curpa benefits from a Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system which can adapt the chassis characteristics to the road conditions within seconds. The front-wheel drive car also has a front-axle differential lock that significantly enhances traction and handling and also reduces torque steer.

Standard for the Leon ST Curpa is the set of 18-inch alloy wheels while the “280” version takes advantage of bigger 19-inch rims featuring titanium paint finish. Something that differentiates the second version is its spoiler mounted on the rear roof side, “Curpa ” lettering on the brake callipers and black side mirrors. Inside it receives deep glossy black or classic chrome trim accents.

Both Seat Leon ST Curpa models have full LED headlights, LED taillights, Alcantara-wrapped sport seats, LED ambient lighting and a Media System Plus infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen color display.

The Leon ST Curpas will be officially presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in early March.

  • Tij-Power Tunes Seat Leon 5F Cupra

Tij-Power-Seat-Leon-5F-Cupra-THUMBTij-Power Seat Leon 5F Cupra is a project that needs our attention. Tij-Power is a tuning company based in Germany, which is very well known for its intensive focus on the Seat Leon. The subtle adjustments and modifications made match perfectly the general setting of this car. In fact, the improvements made appear like a consistent progression. The suspension has been optimized with Plug & Play Coilovers from KW. They feature a rebound and compression stage, which can be set to pre-adjusted settings: Comfort, Sport or Cupra.

These settings can be reached by the DDC system in the cockpit. The Comfort setting delivers almost hover-like feeling, the Sport setting adjusts the steering sensitivity and offers direct feedback of the terrain, while in the Cupra mode, the car evolves to a true racecar.

This modified Seat runs on lightweight OZ Superturismo LM rims in grey finish which come in the size of 8.×19 at the front and 9.5×19 in the rear. They are matched with 235/35-19 tires. Next, this new Cupra was fitted with a tricky exhaust system. Once the pedal hits the floor and the throttle valve is fully opened, the car produces a mighty roar.

This is accompanied by an infernal sound, which escapes from the hand-welded 76 mm exhaust that begins right after the turbo charger. Tij-Power even says that this sound will remind one of racecars

Of course, there will be no full customization without changing engine’s parameters. The tuners substituted stock’s intercooler with performance part from Forge. In addition, thanks to the Tij-Power software, the car now yields the breath-taking 375 horsepower (276 kW) and 489 Nm (361 lb-ft) of torque. These numbers result in a top speed of 290 kilometers per hour.

  • 2015 Seat Leon ST 4Drive – Ready To All Roads

    2015-Seat-Leon-ST-4Drive-t2015-Seat-Leon-ST-4Drive-651

The new Seat Leon is now available in 4Drive all-wheel-drive version. With the complement of the ST 4Drive versions, the Spanish producers successful range now extends its offer with new models equipped with all-wheel drive.

The new Leon ST 4Drive offers a modern, electronically controlled Haldex clutch system that provides maximum grip on even the most irreconcilable roads. In normal operation, the clutch sends most of the engine power to the front wheels, but when traction suffers, the torque is deflected to the rear as well. The electronic control system is added to bring more safety and dynamics in all driving situations.

The AWD system works in sync with the four-wheel EDS dynamic control system consisting of electronic differential locks on both axles. The XDS (extended electronic differential lock) provides better traction while cornering. There is also an electronic stability program (ESP) as well as multi-collision brake system for maximum safety. These innovations make the car one of the most versatile and safe in its class.

    2015-Seat-Leon-ST-4Drive-651.1

“With its new all-wheel drive, the Leon ST 4Drive proves that expressive design, thrilling sporting character and exceptional everyday usability do not have to be mutually exclusive. The 4Drive will build on the success of the new Leon family,” says Jürgen Stackmann, President of SEAT S.A.

There are two engines in the range: a 1.6 liter TDI and a 2.0 liter TDI with 105 hp (78kw) and 150 hp (111kw), respectively. The smaller is able to average 4.5 liters / 100 km (52.2 mpg US), while the more powerful unit needs 4.8 liters / 100 km (49 mph US). Both are connected with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The 2.0 TDI model runs from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.7 seconds, while the 1.6 TDI does it in 12 seconds. Top speed is rated at 211 km/h (131 mph) for the 2.0TDI and 187 km/h (116 mph) for the 1.6TDI.

An interesting fact is that the both power units are from a very latest  generation of TDI engines, with intelligent thermal management and reduced friction, and also feature a reduced emission rate of only 124 g/km for the 2.0TDI model, and 119 h/km for the 1.6TDI.

The Seat Leon ST 4Drive will be sold in two trim levels – Style for the both engines and FR for the 2.0TDI.

Standard equipment includes: seven airbags, tire pressure sensor, hill hold control, Isofix and Top Tether anchoring points in the rear for child seats, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, dual zone climate control, cornering fog lights, Media System Color car stereo, 16 inch alloy wheels, electric heated door mirrors and others.

In addition to the standard equipment, there is also a wide range of safety and comfort options available for the new SEAT Leon ST 4Drive.
