  • 2014 Geneva Motor Show: Nissan GT-R Nismo

Nissan GT-R Nismo EU-Spec has made its official European debut at the 84th Geneva Motor Show. The super-powerful sports car comes with enhanced engine and aerodynamics.

The 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V6 now delivers 600HP (441 kW). Advanced aerodynamics generating additional 100kg of downforce at 300km/h (186mph) for exceptional road-holding.

2014 GT-R Nismo boasts uncompromising engineering and motorsports-inspired technologies to achieve new levels of power, speed and handling.

“With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R Nismo holds the volume production car lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement.”, said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.

    Engine

    • Under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6 engine benefits from the know-how that Nismo has gained from participating in such events as the world-renowned Nürburgring 24 hour race. Engine power has risen and is now rated at 600PS (441kw) and 481 lb ft (652 Nm) of torque.
    • New high-flow, large capacity turbochargers, which are used for GT3 racing, improve breathing, while optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and upgraded fuel pump improve combustion.

    Chassis

    • The springs and custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers in the front and rear suspension are specially tuned to deliver exceptional grip levels and progressive handling response at the limit. Three suspension modes can be selected: Comfort, Normal and R, for circuit applications.
    • Exclusive Nismo tires – developed by Dunlop – exhibit outstanding grip and handling characteristics. Front: 255/40 ZRF20; rear 285/35 ZRF20.
    • Specially-developed links fitted to the front double wishbone suspension increase castor trail to optimize wheel position during high-G cornering and improve straight-line and cornering stability. Additionally, large high-rigidity bolts are used to increase stiffness of the wheel-hub attachment area.
    • To minimize body-roll during cornering and changes of direction, the Nissan GT-R Nismo features a 17.3 mm hollow rear anti-roll bar which raises roll stiffness while reducing weight.

    Body construction

    • Increased rigidity in the bodyshell is achieved using adhesive bonding in addition to spot welding leading to precise suspension response under extreme load, the Nismo “factory tuned” enhancement.

    2. Exterior design – Exclusive styling with improved aerodynamics

    • Using the latest Computational Fluid Dynamic simulation techniques to analyze airflow, Nismo has developed an aero package that improves road-holding, minimizes the negative impact of drag, while giving the car a menacing and muscular appearance.
    • Together, the front bumper, engine undercover strake and carbon rear spoiler increase downforce, lowering the center of gravity and generating an additional 100kg*1 (at 300km/h) compared to the freshly updated 2014 Nissan GT-R model. The car’s aerodynamic characteristics are tuned to ensure the downforce is equally spread front to rear at all speeds for progressive handling characteristics. A widened front bumper configuration and elongated yet tapered rear bumper design keep the drag to Cd 0.26, same with that of 2014 Nissan GT-R.
    • The Nissan GT-R Nismo will be available in four body colors: Brilliant White Pearl, Meteor Flake Pearl Black and Ultimate Metallic Silver. And unique to the GT-R Nismo model, a Dark Matte Grey*3accentuates the car’s imposing exterior muscularity.
    • The GT-R Nismo’s black 6-spoke wheels are inspired by Nissan’s GT-R race car which races in the GT500 class in SUPER GT.

    3. Interior

    • The Nissan GT-R Nismo cockpit inspires driver confidence through both its craftsmanship and optimized driving position.
    • Ergonomically sculpted carbon-fiber-backed reclining RECARO seats comfortably, yet firmly, support the driver and front-seat passenger.
    • Nismo racers influenced the design of the steering wheel which is dressed in Alcantara®, with three spokes, red center mark and red stitching to give the best combination of grip, feedback and comfort.
    • The combi meter has carbon-like finish, and tachometer features a red design. The meter hood is also dressed with Alcantara®.
    • Interior trim features include discreet red stitching on the seats, center console, door trim and steering wheel.

  • AMS Nissan GT-R Alpha Omega – Epic History Moments and Records

There is no doubt that Nissan GT-R is one of the best sports cars ever created. It is not only extremely fast in its factory version, but it discovers new horizons in terms of tuning and drag racing. TheRacingChannel has published a video on Youtube showing epic history moments from the creating of AMS Performance Nissan GT-R Alpha Omega to a lot of record breaks.

The tuning company has created the first 9-,8- and 7-second Nissan GT-R and holds some other records like 60-130 mph (96-209 km/h) in 2.67 seconds and 100-150 mph (160-240 km/h) in 2.42 seconds, which are practically unbeatable.

As a reminder, the GT-R Alpha Omega did ¼ mile in 7.984 seconds with a terminal speed of 299.33 km/h (186 mph). It also set 0-60 mph in spectacular 1.72 seconds.

Still, the tuned GT-R is completely street legal and can go in city almost unnoticed for pedestrians and police. The car doesn’t make scary noise, when its driven normally and goes smoothly even in bumper-to-bumper situations.

We just can’t describe the atmosphere that the video is offering so… Enjoy!

  • Switzer’s Beast: A 2000 HP Nissan GT-R

Switzer-Beast-Nissan-GT-R-shadowSwitzer-Beast-Nissan-GT-R-mediumEvery now and then tuning people just go bananas and take things beyond reasonable. Case in point: Switzer Performance’s 2000 hp Nissan GT-R. Yes, that much and it’s for a client of theirs. We won’t complain, though, as we haven’t heard from Switzer for quite some time.

They’ve called it the “Beast” (makes sense) and the only thing more impressive than the actual power coming out of it is the way it they’ve come around extracting the said power. Pop up the hood (or, judging by the video, just sneak a peak) and inspect the engine bay and you’ll find that it still has the factory 3.8-liter Nissan VR38 plant in it. Nobody has bothered with putting new pistons in it, increasing the size or changing the crankshaft. Instead, what Switzer have done is install their own ECU, tweak the fuel delivery and timing, and introduce two humongous turbochargers.

Watch the Beast strapped on a dyno, however, and you realize that quite a bit of that power dissipates before actually reaching the wheels. Still, 1760 whp is not exactly the definition of feeble. And hey, it runs on ethanol too. Greenpeace would be delighted.

  • Nissan GT-R DT1200R – 1 mile in 22.484 seconds with 371 km/h

Once again Garage D proven that Nissan GT-R is one of the best sports cars in the world. This time the tuned GT-R DT1200R managed to set an impressive time at 1 mile as well as at ¼ mile drag race.

Nissan GT-R Mk.1 DT1200R has no less than 1200HP and it needs just 9.450 seconds to cross ¼ mile mark with epic 265 km/h. One mile is finished in 22.528 seconds with 371 km/h, which is pretty amazing.

In the video we can also see a second start versus Audi RS6, which the GT-R humiliates. During the second start, the DT1200R does ¼ mile in 9.360 seconds with 266 km/h and 1 mile in 22.484 seconds again with 371 km/h.

The DT1200R is completely street legal.

    Enjoy!

  • 2015 Nissan GT-R Recieves Minor Updates

    2015-Nissan-GT-R-shadow2015-Nissan-GT-R-medium

We are having a Nissan GT-R hat trick today (1 and 2) with this latest release from the Japanese company: the MY 2015 Nissan GT-R – now with an updated “ride comfort, more refinement and benchmark fit and finish.”

The suspension has been fine-tuned to reduce load fluctuation between the four wheels, thus increasing grip and stability. The electronic control of the shock-absorber valves has also been optimized to keep the wheels more consistently on the ground. The front stabilizer spring rates and bush links have also been modified. It’s not all in the name of performance though – the ride, Nissan say, is also relaxing and comfortable. The standard tires that will go along with the model are now Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT, measuring at 255/40ZRF20 at the front and 285/35ZRF20 at the back.

Visual touches on the outside are also present. Take the color for example. This is called Gold Flake Red Pearl and it has tiny specks of gold…tinted glass inside it. Much light has been shed on, well, the lights – efficient, high-intensity, multi-LED headlights. The clever bit about them is that they incorporate Nissan’s AFS (Adaptive Front lightning System) – the angle of the light beam automatically adjusts in accordance to the speed of the vehicle. The rear lights also, erm, form coherent circles of illumination. What was the illumination beforehand?

Inside, one has the option to go with three color schemes which include a completely new one with pale ivory shades. The steering wheel sports some leather, while the seats are part-aniline leather and are embellished with stitched accents in tradition with the whole of the GT family.

Here’s a tasteful clip of the GT history so far:

  • 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 Series for Sale

    Nissan-GT-R-Nismo-GT3-shadowNissan-GT-R-Nismo-GT3-medium

If you saw  today’s news about the Nissan Nismo GT-R and thought: “Yes, but does it conform to FIA GT3 regulations?” Well, sorry but it doesn’t. Funny you should ask, however, because here’s one that does exactly that. It’s the 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. The best thing is, you can now own it. That is if you have $397,204 laying around. And that’s without tax.

Relying on data gathered from the 2012 model, Nissan’s engineers have managed to squeeze every drop of performance from this GT-R without really breaking any rules. The timing of the camshaft has been improved, the moving components of the engine have been made even more durable and the aerodynamics have been tweaked: canards were added to the front and the front fender louvers were enlarged. The positioning of the rear wing was optimized. The bottom line is – 3.8 V6 engine with over 543 hp and 637 Nm of torque. Yes, it’s not as much as the road going Nismo GT-R, but this one weights just 1,300 kilograms (despite having a metal, 5,5-inch 4-plate clutch disk). And the tyres? 330/710-18 on all four wheels.

Nissan will only make you one once you’ve ordered it. If the orders exceed their capacity you might end up empty-handed. Time to check your bank account?

  • Bugatti Veyron vs Nissan GT-R EkuTec [video]

Dragtimesinfo has published an interesting video with slightly tuned Nissan GT-R Ekutek Stage 2 with 700HP going against the powerful Bugatti Veyron with 1001HP.

Although the GT-R has 300HP less and a lot worse aerodynamics, it is not too much slower than the Veyron.  The tuned GT-R did ¼ mile in 11.922 seconds with 204.89 km/h, while the Veyron needed 11.285 seconds with 211.33 km/h. The 1 mile times were 28.788 seconds with 291.26 km/h and 28.341 seconds with 254.59 km/h, respectively.

Notice that the Veyron hit the brakes hard before the car crossed the finish line. Obviously the Veyron is not the right vehicle for drag racing, but it is pretty fast!

    Enjoy!

  • Nissan GT-R Switzer Goliath – 402 km/h on 1 mile

Dragtimesinfo has published another impressive video featuring a mighty Nissan GT-R. This time, the road-legal sports car is tuned by Switzer Performance and carry the name – Goliath.

Nissan GT-R Switzer Goliath managed to hit 402.23 km/h terminal speed at 1 mile drag race with 22.602 seconds time. The beast has more than 1,500whp (wheel-horsepower) at 7,000RPM.

The result is achieved using already tested and proven parts used on Ultimate Street Edition GT-R. This means using the same intercoolers, plumbing, and exhaust hardware, albeit slightly modified to handle such an increase in power.

In other words, the GT-R Goliath is completely street legal and has A/C, power steering and all other interior components.

    Enjoy!

  • 2016 Nissan GT-R [render]

Topspeed has published several renderings of the upcoming 2016 Nissan GT-R. One of the best sports cars in the world is going to get an entire new look.

The exterior borrows some elements from the recent concepts. The artists created a sleeking looking coupe that has features from the previous GT-R as well as Nissan’s future models. The result is probably very far from the real car, but it shows a stylish model with boomerang headlights and a familiar grille. There are also aggressive side skirts and ventilated front fenders. At the rear, there is a big wing and also boomerang-shaped taillights.

Nothing is mentioned about the performance, but the model is more likely to get slightly tuned version of the 3.8 liter twin-turbo V6 with over 600HP. Rumors have also suggested it could have cylinder deactivation technology and an engine start/stop system improving fuel efficiency drastically.
