  • 2017 Nissan GT-R Breaks Cover at the New York Auto Show [w/videos]

2017 Nissan GT-R Exterior View2017 Nissan GT-R has been just unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. This is probably the most awaited car at the event this year and it caused a major excitement during its global reveal. Not only does the GT-R look better, but it also features more expressive interior as well as better driving performance characteristics. What is more, there are some new extra key features that are making the car even more wanted than before. Here are the details.

    The Changes of the Exterior

The front of the MY17 GT-R is entirely changed. As you can see, the most emphasis of the design has been put on the new chrome matte finish “V-motion” grille, which previews one of Nissan’s latest design signatures. From the grille flows the new bonnet, reinforced and more stable. The front spoiler lip and front bumper have been updated too for more aggressive appearance.

At the sides the changes made to the side sills give them a little bit pushed out characteristic to help improve the air flow. On the other hand the rear features new bodywork, which also helps improve the air flow. There are also new side air vents next to the quad exit exhaust pipes.

The changes made on the outside contribute for sportier looks, but they also make the GT-R more aerodynamically efficient with less drag but with the same downforce. Furthermore, there are fresh exterior paint schemes for the new model year GT-R, including the “Katsura Orange” (depicted here).

    The Interior Design

    2017 Nissan GT-R Interior View

Cabin’s premium interior benefits from entirely new dashboard and instrument panel that are wrapped in the best leather on the market, stitched with TAKUMI precision. From what we can see, we can tell that the dash has been simplified but improved. It integrates navigation and audio controls and bigger 8-inch touchscreen monitor. The centre console has been made from carbon-fibre. The paddle shifts are mounted to the steering wheel, which has new design too.

A detail is that the interior of the Prestige Edition features high quality leather and offers four different options: the newly added Tan, as well as Red, Ivory and all over Black.

    Updates for the Engine

    2017 Nissan GT-R Rear View

The new GT-R is powered by the 3.8-litre 24-valve twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It produces 570 PS (419 kW) at 6,800 rpm and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque. In other words this means an improved output compared to the previous generation. The powertrain is mated to a refined 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that features smoother shifts and less noise. That familiar GT-R tone also has been “touched” with an engine that has never sounded better. This is due to the addition of the new titanium exhaust and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE).

Running on “sticky” 20 inch tires wrapped around “Y-spoke” machine-finished forged alloys, the GT-R will offer smoother ride quality and one of your best driving experiences ever! 2017 Nissan GT-R will be available this summer, with the famous Recaro Edition soon to be officially announced.

The special pack comprises of unique and dedicated parts that were developed through the time attack project at Nürburgring in Germany. • Godzilla is Back: Meet Prior-Design’s 720HP Nissan GT-R

Nissan GT-R is undoubtedly on of the best sports cars on the planet. I sincerely think that there isn’t a car enthusiast who would not want to drive this emblematic vehicle. And it is always a pleasure when we see some good GT-R conversions. Remember the Liberty Walk Nissan GTR, for instance?

Well, this time the tuner is Prior-Design and it has given this Nissan a Widebody Godzilla aero kit. The most important thing that it has done for the GT-R is that it has lowered its weight, thus giving it the capability of faster acceleration.

    PD750 Body Kit

The aerodynamic PD750 body kit comprises of several carbon fiber parts that has been added to the car. The first one is the new front bumper, which features large intakes for the uprated intercoolers and brakes.

The second one is the front lip spoiler, and the others are the side skirts and a three-piece rear underbody diffuser with vertical fins. The fins actually channel the out-going airflow in order to minimize the drag. As an option, the company is also offering an eight-piece wheel arch extension kit.

    Drivetrain

The aggressive look of the Godzilla is complemented by the uprated engine. The 3.8-liter V6 unit driving the four wheels now produces 720 hp (529 kW) and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque. In addition, the new in-house made steel sport exhaust features a pair of 200-cell free-flow catalytic converters and a flap control. When entirely open, the latter emits powerful sound.

    Wheels & Suspension

Prior-Design has ensured that the GT-R receives the best, so they given it a KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension system. Thanks to it, car’s ride height can be adjusted. There is also an added bounce and rebound control, which assists in the effective use of the extra power.

At last, the Nissan rides on new alloys which measure 10.5 and 13.0×21-inches at the front and rear, respectively. They provide huge mechanical grip and look spectacular.

  • Nissan Celebrates GT-R with Gold Edition

2016 Nissan GT-R 45th Anniversary Gold Edition Side ViewThe first GT-R introduced with gold exterior was this of Usain Bolt. It obviously became very trendy since the brand will even produce it. We are talking about the 2016 Nissan GT-R 45th Anniversary Gold Edition which comes to praise the heritage of this particular model. It is based on the Premium trim level and its gold characteristics do not end with the exterior paint. But before continuing with them, we must also say that this special color, called “Silica Brass” was used for the R34 Type or the Skyline GT-R M-Spec.

The designers added a special gold-tone VIN plate under the hood and in the vicinity of the engine, as well as a plaque on the center console in the interior. In addition, there is some really good news regarding the powertrain. It is now capable of additional 50 horsepower added to its already generous 550 hp.

This means that the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 unit now produces a total of 600 hp (441 kW) thanks to additional fine tuning. There are also 24 Nm added to the torque, resulting in the spectacular 656 Nm (484 kW).

At last, we must also mention these premium wheels on which the car runs. Painted in nearly black as a contrast, they have 20-spoke design. The alloys are shod with Dunlop performance run-flat tires that measure 255/40ZRF20 up front and 285/35ZRF20 at the rear.

  • Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is Like No Other Le Mans Car [VIDEO]

The first glimpse of race-ready Nissan GT-R LM NISMO happened during Super Bowl XLIX. For those who missed it below is a bunch of pictures displaying the racer as well as the commercial video which was aired last night. Last year’s Super Bowl was the most watched television programme in the US with over 110 million viewers. Therefore the 2015 game was the best opportunity for Nissan’s “With Dad” ad to air for the first time, revealing the much-anticipated GT-R LM NISMO.

Nissan says that the LM P1 racing car is so innovative that it is like no other Le Mans car. The Japanese manufacturer has interpreted the sport’s technical regulations in an innovative way. If you ask how – it has produced a front-engined, front wheel drive car that is driven by a V6 3-litre twin turbo petrol engine and has a kinetic energy recovery system.

As you have probably figured it out, the new car will contest the LM P1 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. This is the highest category in world sports car racing. The racing season begins on 12th of April at Silverstone, UK. The series then will travel around the world to Spa in Belgium, onto the Le Mans 24 Hours and Germany’s Nurburgring.

The spotlight in this car falls on energy efficiency. With more technical freedom the LM P1 engineers had the opportunity to innovate. The intensive test programme began in Arizona last year and continues this week at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is the ultimate Nissan GT-R and expresses innovation that excites. What does this mean? We have already mentioned that the there is a V6 3-litre twin turbo petrol engine which sits in the front of the front-wheel-drive car, while the hybrid power is harvested from the front driveline to support acceleration.

In horsepower this translates in around 1250 hp (919 kW) with 550 hp (404 kW) from the petrol engine and around 700 hp (515 kW) from hybrid power. The engine produces a large amount of power – utilizing the allotted fuel flow limit (one of the new regulations at Le Mans).

In addition to that Nissan is using a kinetic energy recovery system (ERS).  The car is a mass, travelling at velocity and as it slows down for the upcoming corner it harvests that kinetic energy. Then, the stored energy is deployed to accelerate the car out of the corner and because the energy recovery system can release the stored energy very quickly it makes it very powerful.
