A, B and CLA-Class with Improved Engines

Mercedes-Benz has announced several new engines for the A,B and CLA-Class. The model ranges are being extended with the addition of highly economical entry-level versions, another fuel-efficient BlueEFFICIENCY Edition model as well as 4MATIC all-wheel drive variants boasting high levels of traction.

The A and B-Class gain an entry-level 160 CDI model with 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel with 90HP (66 kW) and 220Nm (162 lb-ft). 0-100 km/h in 13.8 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). The fuel consumption is 3.8 litres / 100 km – 61.9 mpg US for the A-Class and 4.1 liters / 100 km for the B-Class.

The new B 220 4Matic is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine with 184HP (135 kW). It is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph).

The B 180 CDI has a new 1.5 liter turbo-diesel with 109HP (80 kW) achieving 4.1 litres / 100 km – 57.3 mpg US.

The models will be joined by the previously announced CLA 250 4Matic, CLA 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG Edition One.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Edition 1

Mercedes-Benz has announced the CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 featuring some exterior and interior upgrades.

The exterior boasts a gloss black rear spoiler, a set of matt black 8J x 19” alloy wheels fitted with low-profile performance tires (235/35 R 19) and grey side stripes. Further standard equipment for the CLA 45 AMG “Edition 1” includes the AMG Night package – red accents on the radiator grille and exterior mirrors, and AMG sports stripes in matt graphite grey above the side sill panels.

The interior boasts red contrasting topstitching embellishes the AMG Performance seats in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre, the door panelling, the top section of the instrument panel in ARTICO man-made leather and the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre. Other visual highlights include the E-SELECT lever with embossed AMG emblem, the “Edition 1” badge on the AMG DRIVE UNIT and the AMG floor mats.

The CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol with 360HP (265 kW) at 6,000RPM and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque at 2,250RPM. 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG [video]

Mercedes-Benz AMG has published a nice video with Lewis Hamilton testing the high-performance A45 AMG.

The hot hatchback is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol with 360HP (265 kW) at 6,000RPM and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque at 2,250RPM. 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). The engine is mated to an AMG SPEED SHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission with three driving programs, double-declutching function and Race Start.

Hamilton is really impressed by the smallest AMG saying that the throttle response is as sensitive like in a Formula 1 car. This is may be true, but the acceleration, handling and everything else is far away from an F1 car.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class – UK Price £62,650

Mercedes-Benz UK has announced the pricing of the all-new 2014 S-Class. The super-luxurious saloon starts from £62,650 OTR for the entry level model – S 350 BlueTEC SE. The price can go up to £88,130 for the top-of-range S 500 L AMG. There are also rumors that the S-Class Pullman will replace Maybach and the pricing will start from more than £170,000.

Additional new equipment for the S-Class includes Magic Vision Control, the innovative wash/wipe system that applies washer fluid directly in front of the wiper blades to minimise waste and obstruction to the driver, enhanced AirMATIC full air suspension system with continuously adaptive damping control delivering a composed ride while retaining the ability to lower at speed (by 10 mm at 70 mph and a further 10 mm at over 100 mph) or rise by 30mm should it be required during low speed manoeuvres, and COMAND Online NTG 5 – the latest generation of telematics – all as standard.

The Magic Body Control suspension system debuts on the new S-Class – an option on the S 500 (£4,340). Linked to the new Road Surface Scan system, Magic Body Control uses a stereo camera located on the top edge of the windscreen to scan the road up to 15-metres ahead, allowing it to model a precise image of the road surface.

Three different seat packages are available in the rear – ranging from three seats finished in high quality leather to two individual seats complete with the ability seats to recline to an angle of 43.5 degrees. Furthermore, the seats can, if desired, simulate a hot stone massage for even greater comfort and the armrests can be heated.

The options list also include Burmester 1,540 WATT 3D surround sound system with 24 speakers for £6,430 and Air-Balance Package for an additional £360.

D2Forged Mercedes-Benz CLS-550 FMS08

D2Forged Mercedes-Benz CLS-550 FMS08 comes to show its new appearance. The four dour CLS-550 coupe is powered by a 4.6 liter direct-injected twin-turbo V8 engine. The unit produces 402 hp (296 kW) and is capable of generating 600Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.

This powerful beast has been caught under the attention of the specialists at D2Forged Wheels, which had the goal to make it more distinctive than ever. They have been working on creating builds with their Fixed Modular Spec (FMS) entry level forged wheels, thus delivering this Mercedes-Benz with a real-eye catching feature.

To be more precise, they have secured for this Mercedes-Benz one-of-a-kind set of D2Forged FMS08 wheels which were installed in Brushed Brilliant Clear Center and include Chrome Lip and are in Gloss Black Inner Barrel color.

For the front, the professionals have utilized wheels in size 20×9.0” and for the rear – 20×11”. They undoubtedly take bring the car to the next level, thus securing it a prominent place on the road and securing it with many glances and admirations.

Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake by Spencer Hart has just been born out of the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and luxury menswear brand Spencer Hart. The vehicle shows elegance, style and glamour, and in addition brings together the design philosophies from the worlds of fashion and automotive engineering.

CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake by Spencer Hart has been styled by Nick Hart – the Creative Director of the famous menswear brand. This special edition car appears in a specially created colour ‘Nick Hart Midnight Blue’, which stuns with its extremely stylish cues.

In addition, for the project has been chosen subtle, dark, understated finishes for interior. CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake by Spencer Hart includes special dark Chocolate Brown Italian leather seats with contrasting Midnight Blue stitching. Of course, Spencer Hart’s logo is embroidered into each headrest. The unique design is further enhanced by Nick Hart’s signature, creating a subtle feature on the centre console.

The world debut of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake took place at the “Night of the Stars” at the Formula 1 German Grand Prix in July 2012. This unique high-performance vehicle from AMG was the new embodiment of an innovative vehicle concept. In essence it represents an unprecedented embodiment of a sports car with five seats and a large tailgate.

The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake by Spencer Hart is powered by a 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 with 557HP (410 kW) at 5,500RPM and 720Nm (533 lb-ft) of torque at 1,750RPM. It needs only 4.2 seconds to cover the acceleration sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. This car showcases that with creativity and imagination one can create something unique and special.

INDEN Design Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Borrasca

In Spanish Borasca means storm and thunderstorm, and this was the name given by INDEN Design to their latest projcet. They have transformed the iconic Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster model.

The designers confirm that it was tough to modify something that already has an inherent perfection. Fot this reason a good number of minor but highly effective „touches“ has been done on the sophisticated outer shell of this Mercedes-Benz.

First of all, in order to imrpve the aerodynamics of the vehicke, INDEN Design integrated a new bumper bar at the front in addition to the individual front spoiler lip. The latter was made entirely of high-grade carbon fiber tissue as well as the new engine hood.

When obsereved from the side, the SLS Borrasca stands out with its new mud guard with inserts of carbon fibers and black fins. Additionally, there were also added completely new side skirts with rear air shaft. At the rear the specialists have applied carbon fiber in the new rear apron which features a diffuser.

Furthermore, there is also visible a new stainless steel sports exhaust system with flap control. However, it is modified to have the original AMG end-pipes. In terms of power, the SLS AMG Roadster now generates 635 hp (467 kW).

The power is realized on the road via a set of classical light alloy rims with ten arched double spokes. In combination with a lowering of circa 15 mm, the wheel set fills the wheel houses of the SLS perfectly well in the format 10.5×21 and 11.5×21 inches for the front and rear respectively. The wheels are matched with Continental tires in the formats 265/30/21 and 295/25/21.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG – UK Price £37,845

Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG is now offered in the UK. The pricing starts from £37,845 OTR with first deliveries taking place in August. This is the first production car to achieve 181HP / litre displacement.

The A45 AMG is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol with 360HP (265 kW) at 6,000RPM and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque at 2,250RPM. 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). The engine is mated to an AMG SPEED SHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission with three driving programs, double-declutching function and Race Start. It is able to return 40.9 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 161 g/km of CO₂.

The exterior features new front bumper with extensions to the airdams to feed the intercooler is joined by a new AMG grille, a deep front splitter and, at the side of the car, gloss black sill extensions. A new braking system, springs and dampers are behind twin five-spoke 18” wheels. At the back, a new bumper sits above a bespoke exhaust system. The A 45 AMG is available in a choice of eight colours and three wheel designs in either 18” or 19” diameter.

Inside, the extensive changes continue – AMG Performance seats, fitted as standard, with red stitching, red nappa leather provide enhanced lateral support. A sports steering wheel in nappa leather with red stitching, red seats belts and the AMG badge on the seats add to the exclusive AMG feel along with carbon weave, textured trim.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive Production Car

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive Production Car has made a record time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife (“north loop”) circuit of a 7:56.234 minutes. This means that this Mercedes-Benz is at the same time the first electrically-powered series production vehicle, which masters the legendary race track less than eight minutes.

The record for the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive shows the special position of compnay’s innovative and unique drive solution. Thanks to its efficient battery technology deriving from Formula 1, four electric motors positioned close to the wheels, the individual wheel torques “AMG Torque Dynamics”, the SLS eSound and the”AMG Lightweight Performance” design strategy, the vehicle is capable of doing miracles.

The total output of the four electrical motors of the car is of 552 kW (751 hp) and the maximum torque is of 1000 Nm (738 lb-ft). 2014 SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in a less than 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h.

In addition, the powerful highvoltage battery for this car is an end result of the collaboration between Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in an aim to deliver more power density and efficiency.

Furthermore, the car delivers agile response to movements. The reasons for this are the accelerator pedal and the linear power output: unlike with a combustion engine, the build-up of torque is instantaneous with electric motors – maximum torque is effectively available from the beginnig.

The driving dynamics of this model are ensured by the four motors, four wheels and the intelligent and permanent all-wheel drive. At the same time the latter provides the best possible active safety. Here the AMG Torque Dynamics feature is constantly active and allows for selective distribution of power to each individual wheel.

Furthermore, the same feature boasts a high degree of versatility by offering three different driving modes: Comfort (C) which delivers comfortable, forgiving driving characteristics, Sport (S) that is dedicated for sportier, balanced driving manner, and Sport plus (S+) which delivers sporty and very agile driving characteristics.

The production version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive will be officially launched this month. Its starting price is of 416 500 Euros (circa USD $549 780).

Carisma Auto Design has just unveiled a bespoke conversion of the Mercedes-Benz Viano which comes to offer ultimate luxury, hand craftsmanship, exclusivity and highly discreet travel. The vehicle’s interior is created via exotic materials and includes exclusive audio and visual equipment.

As a matter of fact, Carisma has redesigned and revolutionized the interior of this Mercedes-Benz. No two interiors of any Viano transformed by Carisma Auto Design are ever the same. The specification and design of each conversion is totally one-of-a-kind because it has to meet the individual customer demands.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Edition 1

Mercedes-Benz is now offering a limited edition Edition 1 model of the all-new 2014 S-Class. It will be available during the first 12 months of production.

The S-Class Edition 1 follows the announcement of the CLA Edition 1 and A45 AMG Edition 1 coming with additional equipment. The luxurious saloon can be ordered in exclusive blue anthracite or bright diamond white metallic colors. There are intelligent LED headlights offered as standard and panoramic sunroof and “Edition 1” badges on the fender.

The interior has Nappa leather with contrast stitching for the seats and roof lining. There are also leather-covered sun visors, a microfiber dubbed DINAMICA wrap for center armrest, top of the instrument panel and front/rear door panels.

Other highlights include “Mercedes-Benz” illuminated logos on the sill plates, Nappa grab handles with contrasting stitching and an interior theme choice of deep blue sea or satin beige.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Edition 1 comes with ambient lightning, parking, driving assistance and air balance packages – all of which are optional on the regular model.

The price of Edition 1 is just an extra €19,706 over the standard 2014 S-Class. Considering all the additional equipment, the new special edition is a real bargain.

KW Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Offers Better Driving Dynamics

In the beginning of the year we have seen the birth of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. Through the adoption of the design of the Concept Style Coupé, Mercedes-Benz has established brand new segment in the automotive industry. The CLA was initially offered with high-torque turbo engines rated at up to 211 horsepower (155 kW) and sports suspension.

KW Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class comes to offer more driving dynamics to those who are impatient to wait for the AMG version of the CLA. The model is equipped with special KW stainless steel coilovers which allow continuous lowering of up to 60 mm.

There are two variants of the coilovers offered – Variant one and 3+, the later from which additionally allows a targeted damper setup. In addition, the rebound and compression forces can be adjusted to the individual driving style.

To go further into details, the Variant 1 coilovers come with fix configured damper setup, thus giving the Mercedes-Benz CLA-class an extended balance, sportiness and practicality. On the other hand the KW coilovers Variant 3+ additionally adjust the rebound and compression damping independent of each other.

In fact, the compression damping can be adapted via an integrated adjustment wheel at the bottom of the damper housing. There are needed only twelve precise clicks. In addition, the separately adjustable rebound valve allows fixation of the characteristics of the damper with only sixteen clicks to new tires and larger rims. At last, at the rear axle, the lowering is achieved through the rear axle height adjustment, which has a range from 30 to 60 mm.
