    2023 BMW X7 M60i - Front View

With its inimitable combination of exclusivity, dynamic excellence, luxuriant spaciousness and versatility, the BMW X7 has quickly developed into the most successful BMW model in the luxury class. And now the unique character profile of the brand’s largest Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) has been honed to significant effect thanks to extensive design refinements – most notably a visually impactful front end – plus a new-look M Sport package, light-alloy wheels measuring up to 23 inches (an ex-factory first for BMW) and the latest-generation iDrive control/operation system including BMW Curved Display and BMW Operating System 8. The new BMW X7 also comes with a further expanded range of standard equipment, additional driver assistance systems and the latest 48V mild hybrid technology for the three engine variants offered.

The new BMW X7 is a central pillar in the ongoing product offensive at the most exclusive reaches of the premium carmaker’s model line-up. The new X7 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, the competence centre for BMW X models in the US state of South Carolina. The worldwide market launch for the new BMW X7 will get underway in August 2022.

Exterior design: exclusive looks, progressive style.

Fuelled by its highly versatile skillset, the largest BMW X model convinces with both on-the-road elegance and off-road ability. Extensive design modifications accentuate above all the visual exclusivity of the largest BMW X model even more vividly. Indeed, its design underscores more clearly than ever the status of the new BMW X7 as one of the brand’s flagship models. The newly structured front end picks up on signature BMW design cues such as the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. In their newly interpreted form, these features emphasise the car’s upright stance and reinforce its road presence.

Split headlight units are making their debut in the new BMW X7. The horizontal LED light elements set higher up in the front end house the position light, daytime driving lights and turn signal indicators. The LED units located below them for the low-beam and high-beam headlights give the impression of retreating into the background with their dark housing and deeply embedded position in the front apron, and only come to the fore when activated. The new adaptive matrix LED headlights with non-dazzling high beam and adaptive light distribution now also provide the functionality of front fog lights with their automatic bad weather light.

Discreet cascade lighting for the two BMW kidney grille elements brings a richly extravagant feeling to the front end of the new BMW X7, both when stationary and on the move. The “Iconic Glow” BMW kidney grille is a standard feature of the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 13.3 – 12.2 l/100 km [21.2 – 23.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions: 303 – 278 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures in the NEDC cycle: –) and will be offered as an option for the other model variants.

At the rear end, the progressive style of the extremely slim light units, which now have three-dimensional sculpting, is accentuated. The elegant chrome bar connecting the rear light units on the new BMW X7 is enclosed within an exquisite glass cover.

The optional, newly designed M Sport package shines an even brighter spotlight on the dynamic driving properties of the BMW X7. And M-specific design features for the exterior and interior also clearly emphasise the performance attributes of the BMW X7 M60i xDrive. The M Marina Bay Blue metallic paint finish can be ordered exclusively for the BMW M model. Another new addition to the range of exterior colours is Sparkling Copper Grey metallic. 20-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard on the new BMW X7. The range-topping model and cars specified with the M Sport package come with 21-inch M light-alloy wheels. Optional 23-inch light-alloy wheels are available ex-factory for the first time for a BMW model.

    Luxuriant spaciousness, extended standard equipment.

The generous feeling of space on board the new BMW X7 can be enjoyed across three rows of seats. The second row accommodates three passengers as standard and offers two particularly comfortable individual seats as an option. Heated comfort seats are provided as standard for the driver and front passenger. In European markets, BMW Individual Merino extended leather upholstery comes as standard. In other markets, standard specification includes seat surfaces in new Sensafin trim (not available in Europe). This high-quality, vegan surface material with leather-like properties has exclusive three-dimensional quilting and surface perforation.

Together, the newly designed instrument panel – with its slim air vents and an ambient light bar included as standard in its lower section – and the BMW Curved Display bring a modern style shaped by progressive digitalisation to the cockpit. The innovative light bar complements the likewise standard ambient light. Its effective backlighting – with the help of LED units and a graphic including “X7” lettering (or the M logo in the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive) – is an integral element of the situation-based light effects and enhances the aura of exclusivity inside the cabin. The gear selector lever is also given a new and cutting-edge design.

The further expanded range of standard equipment for the new BMW X7 goes to new lengths in enhancing the comfort of those on board and maximising their wellbeing. As well as the four-zone automatic climate control, panoramic glass sunroof and hi-fi system, it now also includes the comfort seats for the driver and front passenger, a Sport leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles and a new tray for wirelessly charging compatible mobile phones. Highlights of the options list include the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof (illuminated by LED units), the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the newly designed Travel & Comfort System. Active seat ventilation and a massage function are also offered for the driver and front passenger. If the new Comfort Package is specified, the seats in the second and third rows can also be heated, as can the steering wheel and the armrests for the driver and front passenger.

Newly developed engines with the latest 48V mild hybrid technology.

The engine range is headed by a new 4.4-litre petrol V8 for the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive, which is derived from the engines powering the high-performance cars coming out of BMW M GmbH. M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold imbue the 390 kW/530 hp unit with peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) with impressively assured power development.

A latest-generation six-cylinder in-line engine makes its debut in the BMW X7 xDrive40i (fuel consumption combined: 10.5 – 9.2 l/100 km [26.9 – 30.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions: 240 – 210 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures in the NEDC cycle: –). It boasts a wealth of innovations for the combustion process, gas exchange, valve control, injection and ignition system that enhance both performance and efficiency. The output of the new engine is 35 kW/47 hp up on the predecessor unit, at 280 kW/380 hp, while peak torque rises by 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) to 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) – and can be boosted to as much 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) with the input of the mild hybrid system.

Detailed upgrades to the six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the new BMW X7 xDrive40d have also yielded improvements to its fuel economy and emissions (fuel consumption combined: 8.7 – 7.6 l/100 km [32.5 – 37.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions: 230 – 200 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures in the NEDC cycle: –). The maximum output of its overall drive system is 259 kW/352 hp. The nominal torque of the diesel engine is 700 Nm (516 lb-ft), which can be increased to as much as 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) with the input of the mild hybrid system.

The most important shared feature of the three engines is the integration of new-generation 48V mild hybrid technology. In its latest incarnation, this form of electrification consists of a crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated into the transmission and contributes an extra 9 kW/12 hp of output and an extra 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. All of the engines partner with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including shift paddles on the steering wheel and a Sprint function. Engine power is channelled to the road – or unsurfaced terrain, if required – via the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive.

Sophisticated chassis technology optimises agility and comfort.

The adaptive two-axle air suspension teams up as standard with electronically controlled dampers to deliver signature BMW dynamic prowess combined with excellent comfort on long journeys. Standard specification for the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive also includes Integral Active Steering and the Executive Drive system with active roll stabilisation. Both are available as options for the six-cylinder models, as is the xOffroad package.

All the chassis systems have been retuned for the new BMW X7 to enable it to span the widest possible spectrum between sporty handling and driving comfort. Standard specification for the BMW X7 M60i xDrive also includes 21-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M Sport differential at the rear. The six-cylinder models come as standard with 20-inch light-alloy wheels. And the new BMW X7 is the brand’s first ever model to be offered with the option of factory-fitted 23-inch light-alloy wheels.

Expanded selection of driver assistance systems.

Comfort and safety in the new BMW X7 are further enhanced by a significantly expanded selection of automated driving and parking systems. New features include the extended range of functions offered by the front-collision warning system, which now also reduces the danger of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians or oncoming vehicles when turning off. If the optional Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function is specified, the automatic Speed Limit Assist, route monitoring and traffic light recognition features will be included too. Also new is the exit warning function, which alerts occupants to a risk of collision when opening the door.

The standard Parking Assistant also includes the Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant. On cars with the optional Parking Assistant Professional specified, the Reversing Assistant can now take over the job of steering the car for a distance of up to 200 metres. And the new Trailer Assistant makes it easier to execute reversing manoeuvres when towing a trailer. The new Manoeuvre Assistant can store manoeuvres covering a distance of up to 200 metres each. When the vehicle next arrives at a memorised starting point, the Manoeuvre Assistant will be able to carry out all the tasks required to complete the manoeuvre, controlling the accelerator, brakes and steering as well as changing gear to move forward or reverse. While the automated manoeuvre is being performed, the driver can focus on monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings.

Latest-generation BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display.

The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus in the new BMW X7 includes the latest edition of the BMW iDrive control/operation system. It is based on BMW Operating System 8 and comprises the BMW Curved Display, which is formed by a 12.3-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. With the new display grouping in place and the continually expanding skillset of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the new BMW iDrive is geared squarely towards touch operation and gesture control as well as dialogue using natural language.

The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be specified as an option with Augmented View on the control display. The optional BMW Digital Key Plus enables customers to lock and unlock their new BMW X7 with their Apple iPhone via security-enhanced ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technology. And the new BMW X7 also allows customers to enjoy the benefits of optimised smartphone integration, a personalised BMW ID and an eSIM designed for the new 5G mobile technology.

  • BMW 2 Series Coupe [UK]

2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe UK - Front View

Striking looks, exceptional handling and classical rear-wheel drive will leave potential customers of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé in no doubt that this is a car to excite and inspire.

The new generation of the two-door model incorporates the new BMW design language to highlight a fresh, youthful feel with meticulously engineered and perfectly balanced driving attributes.

Reaffirming its sector-leading status, the BMW 2 Series Coupé boasts rear-wheel drive, a six-cylinder in-line engine option and new equipment features that combine to underscore its standout sporting characteristics.

The advances made over the predecessor model are also reflected in a far broader range of driver assistance systems and the latest connectivity innovations.

The standalone vehicle concept of the BMW 2 Series Coupé puts clear water between it and the BMW 1 Series models (which are based on an advanced front-wheel-drive architecture) and borrows extensively from the technology used in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series. As a result, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé occupies a defiantly niche position in both the brand’s model portfolio and among its rivals.

The UK market launch begins in March 2022 with three model variants initially available. Topping the range is the all-wheel-drive BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, which is powered by a 374hp six-cylinder in-line engine, while customers can also choose from four-cylinder petrol and diesel versions in the standard M Sport specification.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is built at the BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

    Individual proportions, optimised aerodynamics

The exterior dimensions provide the ideal starting point for excellent driving dynamics. A length of 4,537mm and width of 1,838mm represent increases over the predecessor model of 105mm and 64mm respectively. The new car is 28mm lower, however, with a vehicle height of 1,390mm. Its wheelbase is also 51mm longer at 2,741mm. Wider track widths of 1,575mm (an increase of 54mm) at the front axle and 1,587mm (an increase of 31mm) at the rear axle (BMW M240i xDrive Coupé: +63mm at the front, +35mm at the rear) are ideal for excellent cornering dynamics.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé’s boot offers load capacity of 390 litres – a 20-litre increase in primary capacity over its predecessor – and the height of the loading edge is 35mm lower.

The concept for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé body also includes targeted measures for optimising its aerodynamics. An active air flap control system for the BMW kidney grille – adjustable through ten stages according to need – and the lower intake in the front apron, plus air curtains, flush-fitting door handles, aerodynamically optimised light-alloy wheels and an almost completely sealed underbody, serve to channel the airflow effectively. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé also has turning vanes and splitters at the front of the underbody which deflect the air precisely as required to reduce lift.

Intelligent lightweight design optimises rigidity and weight

An intelligent mix of materials succeeds in minimising the weight of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, while also enhancing the body’s rigidity and crash safety.

As in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé, die-cast aluminium spring struts and an engine side member made from extruded aluminium profiles are deployed to save weight at the front end. Other advances over the outgoing model have been achieved through the aluminium construction of the bonnet and front side panels of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. These measures alone account for a reduction in weight of around 9.6kg.

A comprehensive passive safety concept maximises occupant protection and the BMW 2 Series Coupé is also equipped as standard with an active bonnet system to optimise pedestrian protection.

Sporty, classically designed exterior with eye-catching front-end design

The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé instantly announces its overtly sporting nature. With powerful proportions set within the classical three-box design of bonnet, passenger compartment and boot, it truly embodies the extraordinary dynamic potential of the new 2 Series Coupé.

Three-dimensional surfaces, triangular forms and diagonal lines are integral to the front end of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. The low-reaching front apron, headlights positioned to the outer edges of the front end and the horizontal BMW kidney grille give the car a wide, low-slung look.

    2022 BMW2 Series Coupe M240i

The BMW kidney grille features vertically arranged air flaps at its heart in place of the classical bars. These operate electrically and only open when the engine has an increased need for cooling air.

Inspired by the legendary BMW 02 models, the headlight units each have a single individual circular headlight using full-LED technology for both low beam and high beam.

A long bonnet, short overhangs and a set-back passenger compartment give the new 2 Series Coupé proportions cut from the time-honoured BMW mould. The car’s roofline, that dramatically swoops down from the B-pillar, and the short boot lid culminating in a pronounced spoiler lip, typify sporting compact BMW coupés.

Powerful rear with striking light and shadow effects

Horizontally pronounced surfaces give the rear end of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé its structure. They produce an interplay of light and shadow effects to accentuate the rear end and complement the darkened rear lights.

The rear end also features a dark shadow rear apron insert, while the exhaust tailpipes on petrol-engined models come in a dual-branch arrangement. The tailpipes are circular on the BMW 220i Coupé and trapezoidal on the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

Customers can choose from one non-metallic and six metallic exterior paint shades. A new addition to the range is the Thundernight metallic colour available exclusively for the sporty two-door model.

Distinctive M accents enhance the performance-focused appearance

Specific design features of the six-cylinder BMW M240i xDrive Coupé highlight its performance attributes. The surfaces bordering the lower air intake in the front apron display the U-shaped graphic typical of BMW M cars. A black splitter rounds off the front apron at its lowest point. The BMW kidney grille surround and side air-intake trim come in Cerium Grey, as do the M-specific exterior mirror caps, the exhaust tailpipes and the model badges. Also part of the standard specification for the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé are M High-gloss Shadow Line trim and 19‑inch M light-alloy wheels. Like the rear apron inlay, its side skirts are also in High-gloss Black. An M-specific boot-lid spoiler painted in body colour and a black diffuser between the exhaust tailpipes optimise the airflow at the rear of the car.

The standard M Sport specification also sends a clear message about the car’s dynamic ability. It includes the powerfully structured front apron with large side air intakes, M High-gloss Shadow Line trim and 18-inch M light-alloy wheels. The side skirts and the lower section of the rear apron with integral diffuser are painted in Dark Shadow metallic.

Interior: sports-car flair meets a premium ambience

Inside the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the latest interpretation of the driver-focused cockpit design is defined by the ergonomically optimised arrangement and operation of the displays and controls. The BMW Controller, gear selector lever, Start/Stop button, Driving Experience Control switch and numerous other function buttons are grouped within a modern-looking control panel in the centre console. High-quality materials, precise workmanship and carefully executed details mark out the elevated quality levels of the interior.

Standard equipment includes a Sport leather steering wheel with newly designed multifunction buttons. The standard M Sport specification come with Alcantara/Sensatec upholstery in Black with blue contrast stitching and the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé comes with Vernasca leather.

The standard heated sport seats for the driver and front passengers of M Sport provide both excellent long-distance comfort and pronounced lateral support. Electric M Seats with integrated headrests and M seatbelts feature in the six-cylinder flagship model.

    2022 BMW 2 S0eries Coupe UK Interior

The Easy-Entry function slides the electric front seats forward in a controlled movement when the backrests are folded, making it easier for passengers to access the rear compartment. The contours and integral headrests of the two rear seats give them a sporty look and feel.

The combination of triangular surfaces and diagonal lines in the exterior of the car is carried over into the interior. A new design feature comes in the form of trapezoidal accent surfaces above the armrests in the doors.

The interior trim strips on all variants come in High-gloss Black as standard. Standard equipment also includes cushioned knee pads on the centre console, an M headliner in Anthracite, door sill finishers bearing the M logo, M pedals, M floor mats and M-specific displays in the instrument cluster.

Advanced chassis technology honed to deliver class-leading driving dynamics

From day one, the series production development process for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé was focused squarely on leading the way in terms of dynamic performance in the premium compact segment. Compact dimensions, intelligent lightweight design for the body and chassis, almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution and optimised aerodynamics create an ideal blueprint for a vehicle character focused on sporting excellence.

Another central element of the vehicle concept underpinning the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is power transfer to the rear wheels or – in the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé – via intelligent all-wheel drive with a noticeable rear-wheel bias.

In all model variants, sophisticated chassis components originally designed for the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models ensure supreme driveability at all times. While the new BMW 2 Series Coupé outstrips its predecessor in terms of performance agility, the comfort it offers remains at the same high level. When it comes to rolling comfort and acoustics, the new car has made significant improvements.

Highlights of the chassis technology include a two-joint spring strut-front axle, five-link-rear axle, wheel bearings that are 2.7kg lighter and have 45 per cent less friction than before, lift-related dampers with bespoke characteristics, and weight-saving construction throughout.

Adaptive M suspension spans an extremely wide spectrum between sportiness and comfort

The adaptive M suspension available as an option for the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé allows drivers the widest possible spread between sporty and comfort-oriented responses. Adaptive M suspension combines the characteristics of M Sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers.

Switching between the various Driving Experience Control modes produces a clearly perceptible variation in the damping characteristics – from the well-balanced long-distance refinement of COMFORT mode through to the highly dynamic set-up activated in SPORT PLUS.

An extra mode can be selected using the Driving Experience Control switch on models with adaptive M suspension. In the ADAPTIVE setting, the steering, damping and accelerator responses along with the transmission’s shift characteristics are automatically adjusted to suit the driving style.

Variable sport steering is fitted as standard to all versions of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

M Sport braking system with model-specific adjustments

Powerful lightweight braking systems with a bespoke configuration also play a part in the car’s precisely controllable performance. The optional M Sport brakes (standard on the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé) provide excellent braking performance through a specification that includes four-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating callipers at the rear. The callipers bear the M logo and are painted red as standard or with a blue finish option available at no cost.

The functions provided by the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system include not only anti-lock braking (ABS) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), but also a variety of stabilising functions and the drive-off assistant. The Performance Control function gives the car even more agile handling by varying the distribution of drive torque to the rear wheels according to the situation at hand.

M Sport differential fitted as standard on the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

The outstanding performance attributes of the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé stem from a carefully composed package of powertrain and chassis technology, which also includes an M Sport differential as standard. Its electronically controlled, fully variable locking function in the rear differential optimises traction and directional stability, as well as agility and cornering dynamics.

Trio of engine options include a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé

The flagship model in the 2 Series Coupé range is equipped with the most powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the core BMW brand engine portfolio. Producing 374hp, the 3.0-litre unit develops 34hp more than the engine in its predecessor. Its peak torque of 500Nm is on tap from 1,900-5,000rpm. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé accelerates from 0 to 62mph in only 4.3 seconds.

Developed using the motor-racing expertise of BMW M GmbH, the engine features an aluminium crankcase with a closed-deck construction and an alloy cylinder head. Internal engine efficiency is increased by weight-optimised pistons and con rods and a forged steel crankshaft. Power development and efficiency also benefit from the latest BMW M Twin Power Turbo technology. The standard M Sport exhaust system provides the perfect soundtrack to the engine’s spirited power delivery.

As well as the latest version of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with twin-scroll turbocharging and High Precision Injection, the four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine of the new BMW 220i Coupé also has a cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold. Making its debut in the 184hp unit, this design enables particularly effective exhaust gas cooling, which helps to minimise emissions. It generates 300Nm of torque, enabling acceleration of 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds.

The enhanced 2.0-litre power unit in the new BMW 220d Coupé develops 190hp and peak torque of 400Nm. It now features two-stage turbocharging and further developed common rail direct injection. Mild-hybrid technology supports the diesel engine. A 48V starter generator takes the role of an electric drive system, providing an extra 11hp of power. This electric boost enhances dynamic response when accelerating off the line and overtaking. The BMW 220d Coupé sprints from 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds.

Standard across the new BMW 2 Series Coupé: eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission

The eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission fitted as standard in all BMW 2 Series Coupé model variants helps the driver to execute dynamic manoeuvres. As well as gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, this transmission also brings a Launch Control function for when the driver is looking to power off the line with optimal traction. For quick bursts of speed while on the move, meanwhile, there is the Sprint function. Here, the transmission automatically shifts into the lowest usable gear when the driver pulls the left-hand shift paddle for at least one second.

BMW xDrive: precisely controlled power distribution for optimal traction and driving pleasure

The intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive in the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé increases traction, directional stability and agility. It uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case interlinked with the powertrain and chassis systems to distribute power between the front and rear wheels as required for the situation at hand. In this way, any tendency of the vehicle to oversteer or understeer is nipped in the bud.

In driving situations where all-wheel drive is not necessary, the power from the six-cylinder in-line engine is sent to the rear wheels alone. This set-up and the M Sport differential likewise fitted as standard in the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé work together to deliver the type of performance experience customers expect from a BMW when pushing the dynamic limits.

Standard equipment includes three-zone automatic climate control and BMW Live Cockpit Professional

The standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit Professional features a fully digital screen grouping. It includes a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a 10.25-inch control display. The fully digital instrument display in the cockpit provides enough room to accommodate an excerpt from the navigation map, media content or status indicators for the driver assistance systems.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is fitted as standard with acoustic glazing for the windscreen and a rain sensor with automatic headlight activation. Electrically adjustable, heated and folding exterior mirrors also form part of the standard specification, as does three-zone automatic climate control and LED lighting for the interior. The new version of the optional glass slide/tilt electric sunroof has a transparent surface that is 80mm longer than in the outgoing model and is nearly 20 per cent larger overall.

Tailor-made performance: M Sport package Pro and M Performance Parts

The standard M Sport trim can be further enhanced with the M Sport package Pro. Comprising M Sport brakes, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, M High-gloss Shadow Line with extended features, the M lights Shadow Line, a black M rear spoiler, this package delivers optimised driving dynamics and particularly striking looks. A sporty drive sound in the interior, Steptronic Sport transmission, the harman/kardon hi-fi speaker system and M seat belts also increase levels of driving pleasure.

In addition, the M Performance Parts available for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé allow customers to give their car an extra sporting touch, as per their personal tastes.

New and improved driver assistance systems

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé enhances safety and comfort with a significantly expanded selection of driver assistance systems. The automated assistance functions are among the best on the market. They assist the driver or lighten their workload in a wide variety of driving situations and when parking.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is fitted as standard with front-collision warning. This system includes Collision Warning with braking function and pedestrian and cyclist warning with braking function. Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator is another feature fitted as standard.

Also to be found on the standard equipment list is an enhanced version of Lane Departure Warning with lane return, which can be used when travelling at speeds between 44 and 130mph.

Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function is also optional as part of Driving Assistant. This system works when driving at speeds of 19-99mph and is capable of braking the vehicle to a standstill, if necessary, and even setting off again automatically after short pauses lasting up to 30 seconds. The standard and optional cruise control systems both include a manual Speed Limit Assist function.

Drivers of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé can also benefit from effective assistance when parking and manoeuvring, for example from the standard Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear. The optional Parking Assistant Plus offers even more assistance with features that, among other functions, generate an excellent 360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings.

Innovative digital services enabled by the standard BMW Operating System 7

  • BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer UK 220i

The UK market launch for the completely reengineered BMW 2 Series Active Tourer commences in March 2022, with the model offering a host of new features to create an even more tempting proposition in the premium compact segment. It boasts significant advances in all key areas and comes with an array of innovations previously reserved for the brand’s larger, more expensive models.

Notably, it marks the debut of BMW Operating System 8 and the new generation of the BMW iDrive control system with BMW Curved Display in a compact-class BMW. Until now the advanced system has only featured in the fully-electric BMW iX and BMW i4. Likewise, the range of driver assistance systems specified as standard or available as options sets a new benchmark both for the BMW model line-up and the sector.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s all-new architecture is designed to accommodate both electrified drive systems and conventional engines. New engines, the second generation of 48V mild hybrid technology from BMW, the seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission fitted as standard in all model variants, and extensively updated chassis technology take both efficiency and agility to new heights.

Customers can choose from two petrol engines and one diesel, with the range set to expand from summer 2022 with the addition of two plug-in hybrid models equipped with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology for a significantly extended electric range.

A choice of Sport, Luxury and M Sport variants, plus the availability of extensive individualisation options, ensure the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer appeals to a wide number of drivers. Its contemporary style, interior packaging, advanced technology and efficient drivetrains are destined to continue the original’s popularity: the first-generation model sold more than 430,000 units with, significantly, around 80 per cent of sales to customers who were new to the BMW brand.

The model is produced at BMW Group Plant Leipzig with the three and four-cylinder petrol engines built at BMW Hams Hall near Birmingham. Careful selection of materials optimises sustainability in the manufacture of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and ensures a high degree of recyclability at the end of its life.

Sporting elegance expressed in a new style with increased presence

At the front of the car is the iconic BMW kidney grille, which has a radar sensor for the optional driver assistance systems integrated into the central section. The addition of full LED headlights as standard adds to the front end’s fresh look. A new interpretation of the distinctive light graphic divides the headlights into three clusters for low beam, high beam and daytime driving light, the latter also performing the role of turn signal indicators. Adaptive LED Headlights, available as an option (or standard on the M Sport models), include a cornering light function, non-dazzling matrix high beam, urban lights, a motorway beam pattern and bad weather light.

When viewed from the side, two precisely drawn character lines underscore the car’s surfaces. The upward tick, the forward-leaning BMW kidney grille, raked A-pillars, stretched side window graphic and slim C-pillars not only increase the appeal but improve all-round visibility. The rear of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer features slim light units with LED technology for all light functions, arranged – if the optional Adaptive LED Headlights are specified – in a striking L shape.

The new model is larger than its predecessor – by 32mm in length, 24mm in width, and 21mm in height. While the wheelbase is unchanged at 2,670mm, its track widths have been increased by 25mm at the front and 26mm at the back. An intelligent mix of materials minimises the body’s weight while enhancing rigidity and crash safety.

The aluminium bonnet reduces weight at the front while lightweight plastic supports for the doors and lightweight forged wheels bring further weight savings.

Optimised aerodynamic properties and acoustic comfort

Aerodynamic optimisation brings benefits for both driving dynamics and efficiency. Measures undertaken to channel the flow of air around the car include an active air-flap control system for the BMW kidney grille and the addition of aerodynamic body aids, while a virtually fully sealed underbody with air guides and integrated exhaust tailpipes contribute to the car’s low drag coefficient of just 0.26 on some models. Wind noise has also been reduced and a new engine and transmission mounting improves vibration isolation, particularly when starting and stopping the engine.

Sport, Luxury and M Sport models

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is be offered in Sport, Luxury and M Sport specification. Sport includes 17-inch alloy wheels, Sport seats with anthracite cloth upholstery, LED headlights, high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, and Parking Assistance with reversing camera and Park Distance Control as standard. Luxury cars feature 17-inch V-Spoke alloy wheels, Aluminium exterior trim, Vernasca leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The M Sport package introduces a distinctive front apron design, 18-inch Bi-colour alloy wheels, Adaptive M Sport suspension, Adaptive LED headlights, folding exterior mirrors, Sport seats with Alcantara/Sensatec upholstery, Luxury Instrument Panel, heated seats, Comfort Access, and wireless charging.

Large selection of exterior colour shades and light-alloy wheels

Two non-metallic and nine metallic paint finishes are available for the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, including the new Sparkling Copper Grey metallic. 17-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard to Sport and Luxury models, with additional18- and 19-inch wheels as options.

Progressive premium ambience for the interior

The interior of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been completely redesigned. Taking its cues from the BMW iX, the BMW Curved Display – with its frameless glass surface angled towards the driver – brings a modern highlight to the cabin, as well as enhancing the spacious and open feeling of the cabin. Five interior trim variants, including the new Aluminium Hexacube and open-pore fine eucalyptus wood, enable owners to individualise their car. The newly designed control panel contains the redesigned gear selector, Start/Stop button, volume control, and buttons to activate the parking brake, My Modes, Park Assist and vehicle settings. The front area of the centre console serves as a smartphone tray with wireless charging an option, or standard for M Sport models.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer enjoys increased headroom, shoulder room and elbow room in both rows of seats compared to its predecessor. Rear seat passengers also enjoy a noticeable increase in kneeroom over the previous model.

Newly-developed seats provide improved long-distance comfort and enhanced lateral support. Anthracite cloth upholstery is standard on Sport models with perforated Sensatec as an option. Vernasca leather and Alcantara/Sensatec with blue stitching are featured on Luxury and M Sport models respectively. Seat heating can be specified as an option for Sport models, as can 6-way electric adjustment with memory, lumbar support and massage function for all models.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer UK 220i interior

ISOFIX child safety seat fasteners are integrated into the rear outer seats, and the 40:20:40 split rear backrests can be folded down to expand boot capacity. The backrest angle can be adjusted separately, allowing the boot capacity to grow by up to 90 litres, while the forward/back adjustment allows up to 13cm of travel.

Load capacity can be expanded from 470 to 1,455 litres (BMW 218d Active Tourer) or from 415 to 1,405 litres (BMW 220i Active Tourer, BMW 223i Active Tourer). The boot of the plug-in hybrid model holds up to 1,370 litres of cargo. Automatic tailgate operation comes as standard, while the optional Comfort Access (standard for M Sport) adds hands-free opening and closing.

A Sport steering wheel is standard, while the M Sport specification includes an M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, joined by an anthracite M headliner, Sensatec/Alcantara sport seats, M pedals and an M logo in the information display.

A host of further options allow owners to individualise the premium interior to their own tastes and requirements, including an electric panoramic roof with a new multi-layer roller blind cover and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon Sound System.

New engines, seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission as standard, 48V mild hybrid technology, plus two plug-in hybrid models

Driving pleasure, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions are key features of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, with petrol and diesel engines taken from the latest generation of the BMW Group’s EfficientDynamics engine family. A more powerful version of 48V mild hybrid technology makes its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, with two plug-in hybrid variants to follow. All engines are married to a new seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission as standard.

Petrol engines with optimised fuel consumption and emission levels

Two latest-generation petrol engines are available from launch, starting with a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit. Its output of 156hp is assisted by a 19hp electric motor for a combined output of 170hp and peak torque of 280Nm. As a result, the new BMW 220i Active Tourer accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit powering the BMW 223i Active Tourer develops 218hp (204hp plus 19hp) and 360Nm. It sprints from 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds, yet emits just 137-149g/km and achieves 42.8-47.1mpg.

Diesel engine with even greater efficiency

The new BMW 218d Active Tourer is offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that has undergone extensive development. Friction-optimised pistons, a graphite coating for the piston skirts, and an active oil separator with map-controlled electric motor all contribute to increased overall efficiency, as do optimisations to the two-stage turbocharging system, common-rail injection system and exhaust gas recirculation system. With 150hp and 360Nm, the new 218d accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 8.8 seconds, while returning 53.3-58.9mpg with emissions of just 125-138g/km.

    Standard: seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first to feature a new version of the seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission. The latest generation of BMW’s automatic transmission features all-electric actuation, a wider gear spread, better shift quality and higher internal efficiency. It also offers a gear selection strategy adapted to the route profile and now includes a coasting function in all My Modes options. When the engine is switched off, the transmission now automatically shifts into the P position.

Debut for new 48V mild hybrid technology

Mild hybrid technology has enabled the BMW 223i and 220i Active Tourer models to deliver improved driving dynamics and optimised efficiency. The 48V electric motor acts as a starter generator and power booster for the engine and is now integrated into the automatic transmission. It delivers an extra 19hp when pulling away from a standstill, or during mid-range acceleration. The starter generator enhances the smoothness of the Auto Start Stop function, with the energy required stored in a 48V battery located underneath the boot, charged by recuperation during overrun and braking.

Two plug-in hybrid models added to the range

Plug-in hybrid technology is expected to join the range from summer 2022 with the BMW 230e xDrive and 225e xDrive Active Tourer. The fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology consists of a current-excited electric motor installed in a single housing along with the power electronics and transmission plus the latest battery and charging technology. In both models, the electric motor acts on the rear wheels while a three-cylinder petrol engine drives the front wheels. With the aid of an intelligent powertrain management system, this results in all-wheel drive that delivers exceptional sportiness, directional stability and traction in all driving situations.

Maximum output is 326hp (150hp plus 177hp) for the BMW 230e xDrive Active Tourer and 245hp (136hp plus 109hp) for the BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer. Maximum charging capacity is up from 3.7kW to 7.4kW, meaning that a full charge can be delivered in around 2.5 hours, or just under 8 hours via a conventional household socket. Electric range has also been increased and is now up to 49 miles based on the WLTP cycle.

Great to drive and comfortable, whatever the situation

The chassis of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been engineered to combine driving pleasure and ride comfort. All front-end components have been re-developed almost from scratch to give the car better turn-in and optimised steering feel, while highlights of the rear include a bespoke modular three-link axle with relocated springs and dampers that free up more interior space.

Adaptive M suspension with mechanically controlled adjustable dampers is standard on M Sport models. The package brings a 15mm drop in the vehicle’s ride height (except plug-in hybrid models) and includes M Sport steering with a more direct rack ratio.

Near-actuator wheel slip limitation for extremely quick, precise response

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now comes with near-actuator wheel slip limitation to maximise the car’s agility. This traction control system is integrated into the engine management, eliminating the long signal paths to the control unit for the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) and allowing corrective inputs to be applied up to ten times faster than in conventional systems, ensuring optimum traction even on slippery roads and during acceleration.

The functions provided by the DSC system include not only anti-lock braking (ABS) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), but also a variety of stabilising functions and the drive-off assistant. The Performance Control function further increases agility by varying torque to the front wheels.

Integrated braking system optimises handling characteristics

The braking system in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is unique in its segment and delivers outstanding stopping power and reliable pedal feel. This system brings together brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a compact module. The required brake pressure is triggered using an electric actuator that generates pressure more dynamically and ensures faster and more precise interventions by the DSC.

    Driver assistance systems

Comfort and safety in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are enhanced by the largest selection of automated assistance functions ever offered in a compact BMW. These functions can be improved or expanded by means of Remote Software Upgrades and Functions on Demand.

The right speed for every situation – automatically

Automatic Speed Limit Assist controls the car’s speed by maintaining the desired safe distance from vehicles in front and observing speed restrictions along the route. It takes into account speed limits detected by the Speed Limit Info system or by using data from the navigation system and, with the system enabled, the maximum permitted speed is automatically adopted.

The route monitoring function uses the navigation system’s map to look ahead and reduce the car’s speed when approaching a corner, roundabout, junction or an exit. The system also adjusts the speed as required before entering built-up areas.

Cruise Control with brake function and manual Speed Limit Assist as standard

Cruise Control with brake function is fitted as standard. A manual Speed Limit Assist function is also available, allowing the driver to import the speed limit registered by the Speed Limit Info system including no-overtaking indicator – another standard feature – as the new set speed.

The optional Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function can maintain the preferred speed (operational between 19-112mph) while also keeping a safe distance from vehicles travelling ahead by using sensor data from the cameras and radar.

Front-collision warning and Lane Departure Warning are also standard, with the former now able to react to oncoming traffic.

The complete package: Driving Assistant Professional including Steering and Lane Control Assistant

With the optional Driving Assistant Professional package, Active Cruise Control can be used at speeds up to 130mph, with Steering and Lane Control Assistant helping drivers to maintain their current course with subtle steering corrections. Active Navigation, meanwhile, helps the driver to keep to the route calculated by the navigation system on multi-lane roads.

Emergency Lane Assistant (in selected European countries including the UK) and Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection are also included, while Road Priority Warning, Wrong-way Warning and Front-crossing traffic Warning help to further prevent collisions. Exit Warning activates visible and acoustic signals if a vehicle or cyclist is approaching and there is a risk of collision on either side of the vehicle.

Providing the help required with parking and manoeuvring: Reversing Assist Camera, Reversing Assistant, Parking Assistant

Active Park Distance Control (PDC) uses visual and acoustic alerts and automatic brake inputs to help avoid collisions with obstacles and includes a Reversing Assist Camera as standard.

The latest version of the Parking Assistant is also standard and helps the driver to park in spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road. Instead of just using other vehicles to help it select a parking space, the system is now also able to use the kerb as a guide. Parking Assistant can now be used both to enter and exit spaces and as well as steering, it also carries out the acceleration, braking and gear changes required.

Reversing Assistant, meanwhile, offers the option of automated reversing in confined spaces or situations where the driver does not have a clear view, such as multi-storey car parks.

The optional Parking Assistant Plus incorporates Surround View, Panorama View and 3D View to create a 360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings. Meanwhile, the Remote 3D View function gives drivers the ability to call up a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and its immediate vicinity on their smartphone.

BMW Drive Recorder is available on cars with Parking Assistant Plus and uses the driver assistance systems’ cameras to record video all around the vehicle, up to 60 seconds in length, for later playback or export via the USB interface. In the event of a collision, up to 20 seconds of video taken both before and after the impact (40 seconds in total) are stored.

The new BMW iDrive and innovative digital services

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first premium compact model to be equipped with the most recent incarnation of the BMW iDrive display and operating system. Boasting new-generation BMW Operating System 8 software along with powerful connectivity and data processing, it takes interaction between driver and vehicle to another level.

The user experience is underpinned by the seamless interaction between the BMW Curved Display, voice control, the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and the optional BMW Head-Up Display. The new display grouping and the expanding capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant mean the new BMW iDrive has been geared towards interaction using touch and natural language. As a result, steps previously carried out with the BMW Controller can now be performed more easily and intuitively using the touchscreen, voice control or the buttons on the steering wheel.

Fully digital BMW Curved Display with state-of-the-art graphics

The BMW Curved Display fitted as standard in the new 2 Series Active Tourer is formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a control display of 10.7 inches. The screens are housed together behind a glass surface that curves towards the driver, so they merge into a single fully digital, high-resolution unit.

The BMW Curved Display’s graphics and menu structure have been designed to have a smartphone-style appearance. The layout in the centre of the display can be customised to suit the driving situation and personal preferences, while the arrangement of widgets on the home screen provides a simple overview of the menu options.

The automatic climate control is operated by voice control or the touchscreen. Controls for adjusting the temperature on the driver and front passenger side are shown permanently, while airflow, air distribution and the seat heating function can be controlled by calling up the climate control menu.

Personalised driving experience with the new My Modes

Drivers of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer have a choice of PERSONAL, SPORT and EFFICIENT My Modes, each activating specific settings for the powertrain and steering, the style of the readouts on the BMW Curved Display and the interior lighting.

Fast, accurate, informative: the BMW Maps navigation system

The cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system, which is part of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus, offers enhanced performance and accuracy along with a simplified method of destination entry. The new-generation navigation system enables fast route calculation, carried out dynamically and based on real-time traffic data. The arrival time is calculated using an anticipatory method which factors in the usual traffic levels along the entire route.

With Connected Parking, BMW Maps is also able to provide assistance when searching for a parking space close to the destination.

    Precision navigating with Augmented View

The new optional Augmented View function supplements the navigation system’s map view with a live video stream from the driver’s perspective shown on the control display and augmented by, for instance, an animated directional arrow to help the driver take the best turn-off for the planned route.

Natural dialogue with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant

The new generation of BMW iDrive also sees the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant gaining additional skills. Spoken instructions can now be used to adjust the air conditioning, open a window or operate the optional panoramic glass roof, for instance. The system is also capable of recognising routines and proactively suggesting that the driver automates them, for example, if you have to scan an ID badge upon arriving at work at a similar time each day, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will recommend automating the driver window lowering.

Interior camera for snapshots; glancing inside the car using the My BMW App

The new overhead interior camera can be used by the car’s occupants to take snapshots during the journey. Pictures can be shared by simply scanning a QR code in the control display with any smartphone connected to the car via Wi-Fi.

Customers are also able to have pictures from the interior camera sent to their smartphone using the My BMW App’s remote function if they wish to glance inside the car to check whether bags or other items have been left there, for example. The interior camera is also activated when the Remote Theft Recorder is triggered.

    Personalisation using the BMW ID

With the new BMW iDrive, customers benefit from greater personalisation thanks to BMW ID. This is used for securely storing personalised settings and transferring them between vehicles with a PIN code for security. Scanning a QR code is all it takes to create a new BMW ID on a smartphone, and if the user already has a BMW ID, this will be automatically imported into the car via the app.

The BMW ID can be created and activated in vehicles with BMW Operating System 8 or BMW Operating System 7. Once imported, the driver will receive a personal greeting that will include their customised profile image. At the same time, personal settings for seat position, exterior mirrors, navigation system, driver assistance functions, display layouts, shortcuts and favourites as well as infotainment system settings will be imported automatically. Personalised suggestions from the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant are also stored in the BMW ID, together with individually selected wake words and privacy settings.

Smartphone linking and integration of third-party services

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are integrated wirelessly as standard, allowing customers to access digital services they use on their smartphones such as voice assistants, map apps, music streaming and messaging services. Information from the apps can be viewed both in the control display and in the instrument cluster or optional Head-Up Display.

The My BMW App is available in more than 40 countries for both iOS and Android operating systems and can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. It acts as a universal interface to the car, providing information on the vehicle’s status at any time, enabling (depending on equipment) remote operation of functions such as vehicle location, door locking, Remote 3D View and, on plug-in hybrid models, the auxiliary climate control system.

    2023 8 Series

Since its premier in 2018, the award-winning design of the BMW 8 Series luxury performance vehicles continues to thrill and impress with grace and power in equal measure.  Today, with striking exterior design enhancements and interior developments, BMW has honed the character of the new 2023 8 Series.  A redesigned front fascia presents a form as dynamic as it is elegant.  The interior likewise conveys an even more intensely focused feeling of driving pleasure and a luxurious ambience, featuring as it does an enlarged 12.3-inch Control Display for the BMW iDrive operating system.

More than ever, the BMW 8 Series embodies a passion for inspiring performance and exclusive style.

BMW twin-kidney grille with Iconic Glow, new paint finishes and wheel designs.

The characteristic BMW kidney grille adds an arresting accentuation to the front of all BMW 8 Series variants.  The BMW Illuminated Kidney Grille provides an iconic glow using waterfall lighting for the two grille elements, creating a dramatic impression when the new BMW 8 Series is viewed from the front. The illumination is activated when the vehicle is unlocked or a door is opened and can be switched on or off manually by the driver.  The grille also features redesigned vertical bars with a distinctive U-shaped profile.

Five new exterior paint colors have been added to the 8 Series palette: Skyscraper Grey metallic, San Remo Green metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey.

Two new 20-inch wheel designs, style 895M and 894M, are optionally available on all new 8 Series models.  The wheel style 895M fitted with high-performance, non-runflat tires is included in the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package, which is optional on M850i xDrive coupe and Gran Coupe.

  • The Final V12

    BMW V12 Logo

In June 2022, BMW will produce the very last V12 engine ever to be fitted to a BMW series production road vehicle. To mark the occasion, BMW will offer The Final V12; a limited series of 12 vehicles for customers in the US.  Based on the BMW M760i xDrive, these will be 12 of the last V12 BMW vehicles crafted for the US market and will be distinguished by unique badging, wheels, and a choice from the vast collection of exterior colors and upholstery offered by BMW Individual.

BMW introduced their first roadgoing V12 in 1987. The naturally-aspirated, five-liter M70 V12 engine featured single overhead camshafts, two valves per cylinder, and an innovative drive-by-wire electronic throttle.  The effortless thrust produced by the 295 hp V12 was key to the original BMW 750iL becoming the standard by which all other luxury sedans of the time were measured.

Today, the V12 engine in The Final V12 displaces 6.6 liters and features BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology.  Two mono-scroll turbochargers combine with infinitely variable valve control (Double VANOS and Valvetronic) and high-precision direct injection to produce 601 bhp between 5,500-6,500 rpm.  This engine together with an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission moves The Final V12 from 0-60 mph in a shattering 3.6 seconds.

Externally, The Final V12 will be discernable from other 7 Series models by a simple, bold “V12” icon at the rear.  Special 20-inch Style 760M double-spoke light alloy wheels are uniquely painted the customer’s choice of either Window Grey or Jet Black, then burnished to reveal a dark silver surface highlight.  The wheels surround formidable M Sport brakes with a choice of blue or black calipers.

Moving inside, threshold plates at each door sill are inscribed with “THE FINAL V12” as is a plate on the cover atop the almighty 12-cylinder engine.  BMW Individual Piano Black Finish trim surrounds the interior and features a console-mounted plaque commemorating the vehicle as “1 OF 12”.

The Final V12 will be offered only in a fully-equipped configuration, including BMW’s Driving Assistance Professional Package, Luxury Rear Seating Package, Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof, Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight, and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound Audio System.  To make their vehicle a uniquely personal statement, customers may select from over eighty exterior colors and several tones of opulent Full Merino leather from BMW Individual.

Soon after the customer has taken delivery, they will receive a custom-built desk trophy to commemorate their specific vehicle, recognizing the special order paint, leather, and vehicle identification number as one of The Final V12 vehicles.

With The Final V12, BMW has a unique opportunity to recognize and appreciate a group of enthusiasts who over the years have shown their enduring passion for the ultimate luxury sports sedan.  In the coming days, clients with a long history of V12 7 Series ownership will be approached through their preferred BMW centers with an invitation to purchase the vehicle.  Production will commence in June 2022, with deliveries expected in July.

  • BMW iX Flow featuring E Ink.

2022 BMW iX Flow E Ink - Front View

Digitisation is delivering an integrated user experience characterised by individuality and emotionalisation in the interior of current BMW models. The My Modes allow the driver to tailor the atmosphere in the interior entirely to their personal mood and the driving experience they want. With the BMW iX Flow featuring E Ink being presented at CES 2022, the Munich-based premium car manufacturer is offering the prospect of a future technology that uses digitisation to also adapt the exterior of a vehicle to different situations and individual wishes. The surface of the BMW iX Flow featuring E Ink can vary its shade at the driver’s prompting.

Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development: “Digital experiences won’t just be limited to displays in the future. There will be more and more melding of the real and virtual. With the BMW iX Flow, we are bringing the car body to life.”

The fluid colour changes are made possible by a specially developed body wrap that is tailored precisely to the contours of the all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle from BMW. When stimulated by electrical signals, the electrophoretic technology brings different colour pigments to the surface, causing the body skin to take on the desired colouration. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design: “The BMW iX Flow is an advanced research and design project and a great example of the forward thinking that BMW is known for.”

The innovative E Ink technology opens completely new ways of changing the vehicle’s appearance in line with the driver’s aesthetic preferences, the environmental conditions or even functional requirements. The technology thus offers unprecedented potential for personalisation in the area of exterior design. The BMW iX Flow featuring E Ink demonstrates this potential to impressive effect. Against this background, the BMW Group is driving the development of the technology so that a new form of personalisation can be experienced both on the outside and in the inside of future production vehicles.

Already today, the colour chosen for a car is an expression of the driver’s personality. The choice of exterior paints available for current BMW models covers a wide colour spectrum. In this way, the longing for a wildly expressive, extravagant, or sporty appearance on the outside can be taken into account as well as the desire for an understated, subtle or elegant appearance. New variants are added each year that reflect the characteristics of the model in question and that allow the brand to keep setting trends in the area of exterior design.

New technologies will provide a whole new level of decision-making freedom in the future. “This gives the driver the freedom to express different facets of their personality or even their enjoyment of change outwardly, and to redefine this each time they sit into their car,” says Stella Clarke, Head of Project far the BMW iX Flow featuring E lnk. “Similar to fashion or the status ads on social media channels, the vehicle then becomes an expression of different moods and circumstances in daily life.”

How a variable exterior colour can increase efficiency.

A variable exterior colour can also contribute to wellness in the interior and to the efficiency of the vehicle. This is done by taking account of the different abilities of light and dark colours when it comes to reflecting sunlight and the associated absorption of thermal energy. A white surface reflects a lot more sunlight than a black one. By implication, heating of the vehicle and passenger compartment as a result of strong sunlight and high outside temperatures can be reduced by changing the exterior to a light colour. In cooler weather, a dark outer skin will help the vehicle to absorb noticeably more warmth from the sun.

In both cases, selective colour changes can help to cut the amount of cooling and heating required from the vehicle’s air conditioning. This reduces the amount of energy the vehicle electrical system needs and with it also the vehicle’s fuel or electricity consumption. In an all-electric car, changing the colour in line with the weather can therefore also help to increase the range. In the interior, the technology could, far example, prevent the dashboard from heating up too much.

E lnk technology itself is extremely energy efficient. Unlike displays or projectors, the electrophoretic technology needs absolutely no energy to keep the chosen colour state constant. Current only flows during the short colour changing phase.

Millions of paint capsules in a custom wrap.

Electrophoretic colouring is based on a technology developed by E lnk that is most well known from the displays used in eReaders. The surface coating of the BMW iX Flow featuring E lnk contains many millions of microcapsules, with a diameter equivalent to the thickness of a human hair. Each of these microcapsules contains negatively charged white pigments and positively charged black pigments. Depending on the chosen setting, stimulation by means of an electrical field causes either the white or the black pigments to collect at the surface of the microcapsule, giving the car body the desired shade.

Achieving this effect on a vehicle body involves the application of many precisely fitted ePaper segments. Generative design processes are implemented to ensure the segments reflect the characteristic contours of the vehicle and the resulting variations in light and shadow. The generative design algorithms enable the necessary formability and flexibility required to tailor the ePaper exactly to the design lines of the vehicle.

Laser cutting technologies guarantee high precision in generating each segment. After the segments are applied and the power supply far stimulating the electrical field is connected, the entire body is warmed and sealed to guarantee optimum and uniform colour reproduction during every colour change.

  • The 2023 BMW iX M60 – the best of three worlds: i, X, and M

    2023 BMW iX M60 - Front View

BMW announced their first high-performance SAV designed for purely electric mobility. The even more powerful variant of its technology flagship: the 2023 BMW iX M60.  With a total system output of up to 610 bhp and 811 lb-ft of torque (when Launch Control is activated), and a unique M-enhanced adaptive dual-axle air suspension, it adds an outstanding performance experience to the world of emission-free driving.

By integrating a vehicle concept geared towards sustainability with the design of a modern Sports Activity Vehicle and thrilling dynamic driving characteristics, the BMW iX M60 embodies the best of three worlds; BMW i, the BMW X models and BMW M GmbH.

Fully electric mobility in hallmark BMW M style starts here.

With Sport Mode engaged to unleash 610 bhp and Launch Control activated to release all 811 lb-ft of instantaneous torque, the BMW iX M60 will hit 60 mph from a standstill in only 3.6 seconds. The intense power delivery of its M-specific electric drive continues steadily into high load ranges, so acceleration remains almost constant up to the electronically-limited maximum speed of 155 mph when properly equipped.

The two motors of the BMW iX M60 operate on the principle of a current-energized synchronous machine. That is, instead of permanent magnets, the excitation of the rotor is triggered by the precisely metered supply of electrical energy. This design method makes it possible to completely dispense with the rare earth metals required for magnetic components when manufacturing the rotor.

The M-specific design of the current-energized synchronous machine principle enables the electric motor of the BMW iX M60 – especially in the case of the rear motor – to achieve an extremely high power density. The drive unit is six-phase operated and has a double inverter. This makes it possible to achieve a particularly significant increase in peak power, which is available up to high speeds and enables typical BMW M power delivery.

The debut of the BMW iX M60 marks a milestone in the history of BMW M GmbH, which began 50 years ago. Together with the BMW i4 M50, it signifies the entry of BMW M into the segment of electrified performance cars. The extreme power and precise control of the electric all-wheel-drive, the highly responsive actuator-based traction control system, and suspension technology that includes a dual-axle air suspension with automatic level control provide the hallmark BMW M driving experience:  power, agility, and precision.

Balanced vehicle concept, extremely sporty orientation.

The vehicle concept of the BMW iX provides an ideal basis for an all-electric SAV with high-performance characteristics. The body structure and suspension design are geared towards combining superior ride comfort with sporty handling characteristics. The aluminum spaceframe and carbon cage with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the roof, side and rear sections are an intelligent mix of materials that combines increased rigidity with optimized weight.

The BMW iX M60’s performance, efficiency and range also benefit from its optimized aerodynamic properties, which give it a drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.26. The high-voltage battery is located low in the vehicle’s structure and within the wheelbase, lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity and ensuring agile handling as well as balanced weight distribution. The result is that the performance of the BMW iX M60 is not characterized solely by ferocious acceleration, but also by outstanding cornering dynamics and handling that can be precisely controlled at all times, even in highly dynamic situations. The perfectly balanced driving characteristics give the BMW iX M60 a confident and nimble feel at all speeds and provides the driver clear feedback in typical BMW M style.

The suspension technology of the BMW iX M60 is comprised of a double-wishbone front axle, a five-link rear axle, and electric steering with Servotronic assist and a variable ratio. In addition, the BMW iX M60 comes as standard with an M-calibrated adaptive dual-axle air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. This ensures particularly comfortable handling combined with increased agility and dynamic performance. The dual-axle air suspension ensures the optimum vehicle height at any speed, regardless of the load. The air supply to the suspension is regulated individually for each wheel and can therefore compensate for uneven loading. In addition, the height of the vehicle body can be adjusted manually using a button on the center console. The damper forces are adaptively controlled with continuously adjustable valves, which take into account longitudinal and lateral acceleration, road speed and steering angle as well as body and wheel acceleration on the front axle to provide the required damper force within a few milliseconds. The respective damper mapping is part of the overall vehicle setting, which can be activated by the driver using the My Modes button on the center console.

First BMW M vehicle based on the new future modular system.

The BMW iX M60 combines its typical M performance characteristics with the exceptionally advanced technology of the BMW Group’s new future modular system in the areas of automated driving, operation, connectivity, and digital services. Like the other model variants, the BMW iX M60 features a vast range of standard equipment in the field of driver assistance systems as well as numerous innovations. A new generation of sensors, new software, and a powerful computing platform also provide considerable potential for consistently advancing automated driving and parking.

Powerful proportions, impressive luxury: enhanced by M.

The powerful proportions of a modern SAV, clean surface design and precise details characterize the uncluttered exterior look while special M details give the BMW iX M60 its distinctive presence. The formidable brakes feature blue painted calipers and the M logo. The optional BMW Individual Titanium Bronze Exterior and M logos in a new High Gloss Black/Titanium Bronze finish on the rear of the vehicle clearly announce the high-performance character of the BMW iX M60. Unique 22-inch aerodynamic wheels featuring an exclusive Titanium Bronze design are optional.

The exclusive character of the BMW iX M60 is further emphasized by its truly comprehensive level of equipment. Included as standard are BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW Natural Interaction, which allows functions to be operated using speech and gestures, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, BMW Laser Light, Comfort Access, Active Seat Ventilation for the driver and front passenger, and the Radiant Heating Package, which warms the seats, steering wheel, and armrests and features innovative radiant heating of the door panels and dashboard to surround the occupants in warmth in cold weather.

  • 2022 BMW Concept XM – power and luxury beyond all conventions.

2022 BMW Concept XM Front Angle

At Art Basel’s 2021 Miami Beach show, BMW M GmbH is presenting an expressive new vehicle concept on the global stage for the first time. The BMW Concept XM looks ahead to the most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production, which is set to begin at the end of next year. At the same time, the BMW Concept XM shines the spotlight on standout aspects of the M brand. Electrification underpins an extraordinary driving experience which allows the driver to both glide along in near silence and enjoy the time-honoured pleasure of high performance, M-style. The BMW Concept XM provides a first glimpse of the new front-end design for BMW’s forthcoming luxury-class models. It will also introduce its audience to a highly progressive and distinctive take on BMW X model design and an all-new form of luxury and sense of space for the interior.

The series-production model – the BMW XM – will be built from the end of 2022 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the USA, the most important sales market for the new high-performance car. BMW M will therefore be introducing its first standalone vehicle since the legendary BMW M1 in the year it celebrates its 50th anniversary.  The BMW XM will be available in plug-in hybrid form only and exclusively as an M model.

The bold exterior styling of the Concept XM reflects the car’s exceptional performance attributes: dynamism, agility and precision, plus an all-electric range of up to 80 km. The newly developed M Hybrid drive system in the BMW Concept XM brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The first electrified vehicle from BMW M GmbH in the high-performance segment is therefore pointing the way for the future of the brand.

“The BMW Concept XM represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “It underlines the ability of BMW M GmbH to break with established conventions and push boundaries in order to offer fans of the brand the ultimate driving experience. The series-production car – the first pure BMW M model since the legendary BMW M1 – also shows how we are approaching the step-by-step electrification of our brand.”

BMW M goes its own way in the luxury segment.

The BMW Concept XM sees BMW M GmbH forging a distinctive path in the luxury segment. The car’s exterior majors on presence and extrovert appeal. Inside the car, a special take on the driver-focused cockpit for which M models are renowned meets an all-new rear compartment design: with its high-comfort seats and illuminated, sculptural headliner, the M Lounge offers passengers a luxurious retreat.

“The design of the BMW Concept XM is an extravagant statement by BMW M in the heart of the luxury segment,” says Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design. “It has a unique identity and embodies an expressive lifestyle like no other model in the BMW line-up.”

The front end: progressive design for maximum presence.

The BMW Concept XM debuts the new, progressive front-end design for BMW’s luxury-class models, a version of which will be seen for the first time in 2022 as part of the BMW model offensive in the luxury segment. The headlights have been split into two separate modules, a new design feature which creates a visually arresting appearance. The daytime driving light signature in the sharply styled, slim upper module is particularly eye-catching. The horizontal kidney grille sits boldly between the headlights and tapers towards the outer edges, producing a near-octagonal outline that emphasises the front end’s dynamic character. The black kidney grille elements are enclosed within an intricate surround and appear almost to be floating freely within a High-gloss Black surface. M-style double bars within the grille add to the perception of width. Eye-catching contour lighting sets off the grille to fine effect, ensuring the striking composition of kidneys and daytime driving lights is immediately recognisable in the dark as well. The new XM logo in the kidney grille and the large air intakes hint at the power of the V8 engine, which teams up with the electric motor to form the M Hybrid system.

M-specific details point to compromise-free performance.

The glasshouse of the BMW Concept XM rises up vertically, accentuating the front end’s strong, imposing feel. The colour of the roof contrasts with the black finish of the A-pillars. The windscreen seems to have an even heavier rake as a result, injecting modern dynamism into the front end. Slim LED searchlights have been incorporated into the roof above the A-pillars. The boldly sculpted bonnet extends the contours of the kidney grille back in the form of two power domes. A pair of air intakes in the bonnet mimic the appearance of the LED searchlights in the roof and add extra dynamic flair. Framing the statuesque body at its lower edge are the clean-cut black surfaces of the front apron. Triangular body-coloured blades at the outer edges accentuate the vertical air intakes while emphasising the sporty and robust stance of the BMW Concept XM.

The side view: an expression of unbridled dynamism.

The powerful and heavily contoured proportions of the BMW Concept XM highlight the car’s resolutely standalone identity and draw the eye to the coupé-like character of the body. The visually striking front end, long bonnet and stretched, sloping roofline present a characterful two-box design with a distinctive outline. The window graphic narrows significantly as it approaches the rear, enriching the dynamism of the side view.

The two-tone paint finish of the BMW Concept XM further accentuates its distinctive lines: the upper section is in matt gold-bronze, while the lower section sports the Space Grey metallic shade. Below the window graphic, a broad, High-gloss Black line – the “black belt” – separates the two exterior colours. The signature M exterior mirrors give the car a clean-cut and technical, sporty edge. The charging flap rearwards of the front-left wheel is a reminder of the M Hybrid drive system at work.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Side

Throughout the side view, deliberately short character lines, which start off boldly before fading softly, accentuate the car’s agile, modern feel. The expressive rear lights extend well into the car’s flanks and create an eye-catching transition into the rear. The black cladding typical of BMW X models above the wheels and on the side skirts is very clearly defined and gives the body an elevated appearance. The elongated body sits on 23-inch light-alloy wheels, which bring extra power and solidity to the side view.

The rear : powerful stature and newly interpreted design.

The design of the rear end likewise accentuates the car’s powerful stature, and the BMW Concept XM cuts a low and sporty figure from this angle. The rear window is inserted almost seamlessly into the rear end. The fresh interpretation of the design can also be seen in the arrangement of the BMW logo, which is laser-etched into the window below each of the two cant rails. This is a stylistic reference to the BMW M1, to date the only example of a standalone model developed exclusively by BMW M GmbH.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Rear

Lower down at the rear end, prominently flared wheel arches draw attention to the car’s powerful stance on the road. Extremely slim and boldly L-shaped rear lights extending across almost the entire width of the rear add to the effect. The lights themselves have a dark appearance when not active, giving way to a precise and uniform shade of red when switched on. Dominating the rear apron are the characteristic twin tailpipes of BMW M models. The dual-branch, twin-tailpipe exhaust system employed here reduces backpressure for the V8 engine and also generates the emotionally rich M-typical soundtrack accompanying the engine’s imposing power delivery. The vertical arrangement and hexagonal interpretation of the tailpipes breathe new life into this classically iconic feature.

The interior design – high performance and extrovert luxury.

Inside the BMW Concept XM, the driver will find a distinctive M interpretation of driver-focused cockpit design. The lines and surface design of the instrument panel, centre console, door trim and seats give the ambience in the front compartment a progressive feel with their powerful geometry and high-quality materials. Brown, vintage-look leather, copper and carbon fibre create a bridge between luxury and motor sport. A bold trim element provides clear visual separation between the driver’s area and the other sections of the car.

Inside the cockpit area, a decorative surface made from carbon fibre with interwoven copper thread creates a sporty and exclusive base for displays, air vents and control/operating elements. The new BMW Curved Display screen grouping positioned above it creates a neat balance between traditional driver focus and modern digitality. Red accents on the steering wheel and centre console are M-specific references to the car’s sporting prowess. A trio of vertical elements presented in the three colours of the BMW M brand logo form the heart of the centre console.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Interior

Spacious and luxurious: the M Lounge.

The unwavering driver focus of the front compartment contrasts with the extravagant and luxurious lounge-like ambience in the rear of the BMW Concept XM. Special materials, visually powerful surfaces and expressive details turn the rear seats into the unique M Lounge, black-tinted rear side windows underscoring the abiding sense of privacy here. While warm brown leather dominates the cockpit, the rear is decked out in the rich colour shade Petrol. The large rear seat bench with its deep seat recesses forms an inviting space to relax. Only the diamond-shaped area of the head restraints – which provides the supporting function familiar from BMW M Sport seats in other models – is leather-trimmed. The lower sections of the seats offer high comfort and an exclusive couch character with their luxurious velvet upholstery and diamond quilting. Deep-pile carpeting with a diamond pattern adds to the exclusive impression.

Illuminated and sculptural: the headliner .

The visual highlight of the cabin is its headliner with a three-dimensional prism structure. A combination of indirect and direct lighting produces a relief-like structure which showcases the headliner as an exclusive work of art. Together with the ambient lighting, it highlights the BMW Concept XM’s blend of luxury and comfort to extremely striking effect. The ambient lighting can be activated in the three BMW M colours.

BMW Curved Display with M-specific user interface.

Based on the latest generation of BMW iDrive, the M-specific version of the control/operation system translates the high-performance character of the BMW Concept XM into the digital world. Showcased in the familiar three M colours, the user interface lends itself perfectly to a sporty driving experience. It visualises the modes of the hybrid drive system as well as the pure-electric driving mode with captivating aesthetic appeal. The BMW Curved Display provides the perfect stage for showing off this bespoke design and previews the user interface that will bring extra intensity to the driving experience in all future BMW M models.
