  • FolienCenter-NRW Audi TT RS In Chrome Red Delivers 501 HP

FolienCenter-NRW-Audi-TT-RS-THUMBChromium wrapping is expected to be one of the most important trends that are happening at the moment. For this reason the wrapping experts at FolienCenter-NRW have given a new skin to this Audi TT RS in exceptional “chromium red” prototype wrap of Hexis.

Thanks to this, the Audi becomes an absolute attention “grabber”. Furthermore, the red chrome gives the perfect contrast to the elements in matt silver, such as the exterior mirror which is in factory-chosen matt silver, as well as the high-gloss consolidated Audi RS6 rims.

To be more precise, the 9×20 inches rims are covered all round with Hankook S1 Evo tires of 225/30R20. In addition, Bilstein B16 coil-over suspension is responsible for the opulent lowering.

What is more, the unit under the hood has been also reworked with the help of LOBA motorsports components: LO500P turbo charger, charge air inter-cooler, fuel pump; and the better high-performance ignition plugs and a final software optimization by FTS Fahrzeugtechnik.

The result is that the five-cylinder TFSI engine generates now exactly 501 horsepower (368 kW) from its 2.5 liter cubic capacity and maltreats the Sachs-Performance clutch with a maximum torque of 563 Newton meters (415 lb-ft).

That is not all! This Audi has a deep voice to show thanks to the Milltek exhaust system following up on the HJS racing catalytic converters. It has the ability to cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds on its way to the top speed of 320 km/h.

  • Audi’s Cylinder-on-Demand Technology for A1 and A3

Audi is now offering the A1 and A3 1.4 liter TFSI engine with Cylinder-on-Demand technology. The manufacturer is moving CoD technology from Audi S and RS models to bring 60 mpg economy potential to A1 and A3.

    The 1.4 liter TFSI has 140HP (103 kW) at 5,000RPM And 250Nm (184 lb-ft) at just 1,500RPM. 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds for A1 with S-tronic and 8.3 seconds for A3 with 6-speed manual. The top speed is 212 km/h (132 mph) for all models.

All versions of the A1 and A1 Sportback are equipped initially with the 7-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission, and all versions of the A3 and A3 Sportback with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Both transmissions will however become available for all A1 and A3 CoD models later this year.

    Audi A1 three-door can return 60.1 mpg UK – 4.7 liters / 100 km with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km, while the 5-door version will do 4.9 liters / 100 km and 113 g/km CO2.

The bigger A3 has the same fuel economy as A1 three-door, but A3 Sportback needs 4.8 liters / 100 km with 112 g/km of CO2.

The Cylinder-on-Demand technology doesn’t only operate according to set parameters. Using information from the throttle pedal sensors, it determines how the driver is driving, and if it detects an irregular pattern, for instance over a series of roundabouts or on a twisting A-road, it inhibits cylinder deactivation because here it would generally only be of short duration and wouldn’t save any fuel.  Two-cylinder operation is also disengaged if the driver brakes, enabling all four cylinders to support braking when coasting, and if the car is travelling downhill.

  • 2013 Geneva Motor Show: Audi A3 Sportback g-Tron

Audi is currently exhibiting the new A3 Sportback g-Tron at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The ultra-efficient hatchback boasts incredibly low fuel consumption and awesome range.

The A3 Sportback g-Tron has two gas tanks which can carry up to 7 kg (15.3 lbs) of compressed natural gas (CNG) at a maximum pressure of 200 bar. Despite the huge pressure, the car is perfectly safe, because the tanks are manufactured from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). What is more, they weight only 27 kg (59.5 lbs) – each, when they are full.

The engine is a 1.4 liter TFSI with 110HP (81 kW) and 200Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph). Although the performance is not great, the car consumes 3.5 kg / 100 km and provides a range of around 400 km (242 miles) on CNG and another 900 km (559 miles) on gasoline. This means an impressive range of 1,300 km.

  • Geneva Motor Show: Premiere For Audi RS 5 DTM

Audi-RS-5-DTM-THUMBAt the Geneva Motor Show was just presented the racecar for the DTM 2013 – the exceptional Audi RS 5 DTM. Model’s technical specifications are matching all of the regulations demanded.

Although the car’s specifications for the 2012 season were perfect, there were also made some additional development, butt only in limited form. Over the winter, the Audi Sport DTM team put its attention on identifying if any of the 4,000 components in the racecar from the 2012 season offered any potential for optimization.

The name of the model is also new. This Audi motorsport car also establishes a direct reference in the DTM to the company’s successful production models. In addition the abbreviation ‘RS’ stands for the sportiest Audi models. In fact, the performance data of the current RS 5 and RS 5 DTM are very similar, hence the Audi RS 5 DTM was born.

To go further into detail, eight examples of th RS 5 DTM will take part in the grid for the 2013 DTM. They are fielded by the three proven Audi Sport squads Abt Sportsline, Phoenix and Rosberg. The drivers have been also selected. Among them is one newcomer – Jamie Green from Great Britain, who will join DTM Champion Mattias Ekström (Sweden) at Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline.

The most successful driver combination in the entire DTM 2013 field were Ekström and Green, who achieved 25 race wins and two championship titles. Additionally, nine DTM race wins are attributed to the other Audi driver teams which have remained almost identical since the 2012 season: the double DTM Champion Timo Scheider (Germany) and Adrien Tambay (France) compete for Audi Sport Team Abt, Miguel Molina (Spain) and Mike Rockenfeller (Germany) for Audi Sport Team Phoenix, Filipe Albuquerque (Portugal) and Edoardo Mortara (Italy/France) for Audi Sport Team Rosberg.

On 5th of May is when the new DTM season starts, and here are already known ten events, six of which are in Germany. The other will be held in Austria, Great Britain and the Netherlands and in Moscow. Audi RS 5 DTM will appear officially in public for the first time at the DTM test between 19th and 26th of April 26 and 29 in Barcelona and from 9th to 12th of April in Hockenheim, where a grandstand is open for spectators on the first day.

  • Audi A3 Sportback g-tron Supports Renewable Energies

Audi-A3-Sportback-g-tron-THUMBAfter the recent introduction of 2014 Audi A3 e-tron the brand is now ready to enter the A3 Sportback g-tron. The latter is a compact five-door car, powered by the CO2-neutral fuel Audi e-gas. This new Audi vehicle innovatively combines ecological balance, economy and high-tech solutions.

To go further into details, the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron is equipped with the full gamut of company’s technology expertise. Starting from ultra-lightweight technology, and infotainment, and ending with the driver assistance systems. However, what is the most important feature here is the state-of-the-art CNG drive technology, with included fuel storage.

The fuel storage has two tanks under the luggage compartment floor. Each of them can hold seven kilograms (15.43 lb) of CNG at a maximum 200 bar pressure. At the same time each tank weighs 27 kilograms (59.52 lb) less than its conventional counterpart.

Even more, the tanks consist of a new type of matrix, where the inner layer comprises of gas-impermeable polyamide polymer, while the second layer – of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) that gives the tank its extremely high strength. In addition, the third layer is made of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), which provides rugged protection against damage from the outside. High-strength epoxy resin is used to bind the fiber reinforced materials.

Another highlight in the A3 Sportback g-tron is the electronic gas pressure regulator, which is compact and lightweight and therefore reduces the high pressure of the gas flowing from the cylinders down to around five to nine bar in two stages.

For instance, if the pressure in the tank drops below ten barr, the engine management system automatically switches over to gasoline operation. The model is fully bivalent, this means that its performance figures are identical in CNG and gasoline modes.

Furthermore, the CNG provides a range of around 400 km (248.55 miles), with gasoline providing another 900 km (559.23 miles). All in all, the total range is approximately on a par with an Audi TDI.

The information of the fuel level is visible on two displays in the instrument cluster. The driver information system also displays the current fuel consumption based on the particular operating mode.

The engine under the hood of this Audi is based on the new 1.4 TFSI, which develops 110 hp (81 kW) and 200 Nm of torque. Key modifications relate to the cylinder head, turbocharging, injection system, and the catalytic converter.

The Vmax here is 190 km/h (118.06 mph), with an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62.14 mph) in 11 seconds. Additionally, the fuel consumption here is also impressive: the five-door car consumes on average less than 3.5 kilograms per 100 km of CNG or Audi e-gas – the fuel that is generated from eco-electricity in the Audi e-gas project. CO2 tailpipe emissions are less than 95 grams per km (152.89 g/mile) in gas mode.

What is more attractive however, is the greenhouse gas balance in a well-to-wheel analysis that accounts for all factors from the fuel source to the car’s wheels. When the A3 Sportback g-tron is powered by Audi e-gas, no more CO2 is released. Buyers of the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron will presumably obtain the e-gas at the public CNG refueling stations via an ecological accounting¬ method.

This so called e-gas project makes Audi the first automobile manufacturer to develop an entire chain of sustainable energy carriers. The start of the chain has electricity produced from renewable energy sources and the end products are hydrogen and the synthetic Audi e-gas.

What is more, the construction of the world’s first industrial plant to produce synthetic methane (e-gas) from CO2 and renewable electricity is almost complete in Werlte in Germany. The Audi e-gas plant will make a way for tapping into the natural-gas network with its huge capacity as storage and transport system for hitherto excess electricity capacity.

The CO2 used in Audi’s e-gas plant is a waste ¬product from a nearby biogas plant, operated by power utility EWE. The CO2, which would otherwise pollute the atmosphere, is chemically bonded into the fuel at the Audi e-gas plant. In addition, it is expected that the e-gas plant will annually produce about 1 000 metric tons of e-gas and will chemically bind some 2,800 metric tons of CO2.

In other words, the CO2-neutral e-gas derived from the plant will be able to power 1 500 new Audi A3 Sportback g-tron vehicles every year. The electricity-gas technology is an aim to significantly foster the expansion of renewable energies.
