  • Audi RS6 C8 „@TenTension“ by Wheelsandmore

    2020 Wheelsandmore Audi RS6 C8 TenTension - Front Angle

    Stage 1:
Using classic software optimization, the Audi tuner generates 710hp and 920Nm torque from the original (441kW) 600hp and 800nm of torque.
The price for the upgrade is about family-friendly 2,100 EURO With the ecu upgrade the v-max lock will be removed with all optimizations!

    Stage 2:
In addition to the matching engine control, the luxury tuner installs a flap-controlled exhaust system from Capristo, which replaces the front and middle silencers for flow-optimized and acoustically relevant reasons. This upgrade results in an engine output of 725hp and a maximum of 930nm torque.
Price for stage 2 including assembly: 7,688 EURO

    Stage 3:
Due to the lack of TUV approval, the exhaust system is no longer used and the tuner replaces the air duct and filter housing together with filters for optimized versions and implements modified intake manifolds. This upgrade to 786hp and 1060nm is available from Wheelsandmore with the appropriate blessing from the regulatory authorities at a price of EUR 12,521

    Stage 4:
All components from stage 3 are supplemented by revised turbochargers. The series turbos receive larger turbine shafts, as well as a correspondingly modified compressor unit, reinforced axial bearings and larger-sized inputs.
Also this upgrade to crazy 965hp and 1250! nm enjoys the blessing of the TUV through appropriate acceptance and is offered at a price of just 33,529 euros.

    Stage 5:
Out of any TUV standard Wheelsandmore offers the final Stage 5. Everything that disturbs power from the modern EURO 6-d Temp emission and eats performance is replaced by empty pipes beginning the downpipes from the turbochargers. Catalysts, gasoline particulate filters and all silencers other than the rear silencers fall victim to the upgrade. The result is a magical 1010 hp upgrade with electronically limited torque at 1250nm.
Upgrade price: 41,932 EURO including assembly

Audi has now also realized that the sporty driver is more and more concerned with individual options without regard to comfort and already offers a neat 22-inch gear train from the factory. Due to the correspondingly low offsets, however, the manufacturer does not invite customers or tuners to purchase alternative rims that match the accessories. Since most customers with an interest in a modified wheel / tire combination are always concerned with the maximum possible widening, in this case wider rims or wheels with almost neutral offsets are required.

Compared to some other tuners Wheelsandmore has taken a while to construct the perfectly fitting wheels and presents 3 different models including a new monoblock design.
The well-known designs 6Sporz² and F.I.W.E. are expanded by the new design “Atom”. All 3 rim models are either available on both axles with 295/30/22 Continental tires or when using the wider 11.5J rims on the rear with 285/30/22 and 335/25/22 tires. The price for a complete wheel set with TPMS sensors starts at 6,300 EURO.
All rim designs can be individually finished in any color and can also be front polished using an in-house CNC machine to implement an elegant bi-color effect.

As with the predecessor C7, suspension manufacturer KW also has various options for optimizing and lowering the suspension in its range for the current RS6. In addition to a Variant 4 coilover kit for 4,369 Euros, Wheelsandmore also offers adjustable lowering springs at a price of 755 Euros.

  • Audi R8 V10 with 1050 hp „Apocalypticar“

    2020 Wheelsandmore Audi R8 V10 Apocalypticar - Front Angle

Audi´s high-revving V10 engine is without question one of the most solid units on the market and combines sportiness with high suitability for everyday use. The all-wheel-drive model type 4S is currently flanked by the 620hp performance model. Wheelsandmore has been offering a powerful compressor upgrade called B3AST² with almost 800hp engine power since the model was introduced in 2015. In addition, the manufacturer offers minor upgrades using software optimization, also combined with a flap exhaust system from exhaust specialist Capristo. But the latest upgrade will let the hearts of tuning fans beat even faster. The 10-cylinder engine remains completely untouched, but receives a set of asymmetrically working turbochargers, which are supported by special tailored water- and charge air coolers. With the appropriate software for the engine control and the adapted transmission control, which transmits hte signals to a high-performance double clutch from Promax, switchable 1050hp at 1000nm of torque via a boost controller are good enough for a new top speed of 357 km/h. The acceleration values:0-100 km / h = 2.7s0-200 km / h = 6.3s100-200 km / h = 3.6s0-300 km / h = 14.2 s0-357 km / h = 20.3s With prices between 2,940 EURO and 66,387 EURO for the Stage IV 430hp upgrade, Wheelsandmore has the right tuning upgrade for the R8 V10 for every requirement and budget.

Optically the modified super sports car hardly gives any idea of the performance it is capable of. The only visible but striking feature are the hand-made forged wheels of the type F.I.W.E., which fully fill the wheel arches in all directions coated in matt black. Wheelsandmore mounted the wheel 9.5×20 inches on the steering axle and covered it with 255/30/20 tires from Continental and on the other axle in the brutal size 12.0×21 inches with 325/25/21 tires. The prices for a wheel set customized in color and surface according to customer requirements are starting at 11,100 EURO.

The leader in suspension manufacturing KW also supplies all variants of its range for the successor of the Type 42. The manufacturer offers in addition to adjustable lowering springs, a coilover suspension that can be adjusted in compression and rebound and a hydraulically adjustable high-end solution, which can be lifted-up at the front axle to ensure 100% suitability for everyday use despite lowering the chassis. The prices, plus assembly and wheel alignment, range between 924 – 7,562 EURO excluding VAT.

  • Hybrid drive finds another new home at Audi as Q3 SUV joins the TFSI e family

    Audi Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e / Audi Q3 45 TFSI e

Another convert to the zero local emissions movement is confirmed today as the new Q3 45 TFSI e stakes its claim as the first ever plug-in hybrid Audi model in the compact SUV class. The eighth member of the flourishing electrified TFSI e family will be available to order in the UK next spring in Q3 and coupé-inspired Q3 Sportback forms, the former featuring Technik, S line, Black Edition and particularly sumptuous Vorsprung specification options and the latter starting at S line level. In both a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and an 85 kW electric motor generate a system output of 245PS to enable travel without tailpipe emisions for up to 31 miles* between charges.

“TFSI e models are a perfect stepping stone on the path to electrification for Audi customers who are keen to play their part in the decarbonisation of our environment, but who are perhaps delaying making the leap of faith to a full EV due to lingering concerns about charging and range,“ says Director of Audi UK Andrew Doyle. “Like our other PHEV models, the new Q3 TFSI e can help to allay those concerns by proving how easily an EV can be assimilated into life, while also offering the safety net of an economical combustion engine which can greatly expand its range and refuelling possibilities if required. It’s a great way to begin gradually embracing the future of mobility.“

245 PS of system output, 13 kWh of energy capacity: the drive and the battery
The four-cylinder 1.4 TFSI petrol engine powering both new Q3 models contributes a healthy 150PS output, and this is supplemented by the 85 kW of power delivered by the permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM). Together, they generate 180 kW of system power (245 PS) and system torque of 400 Nm (295.02 lb-ft), on the strength of which both variants can reach 62mph from a standing start in 7.3 seconds and top out at 130mph.

The PSM is integrated into the housing of the six-speed S tronic transmission together with the separating clutch. This dual-clutch transmission transfers the power to the front wheels, and integrates an electric oil pump which maintains supply even when the TFSI engine is switched off to enable normal functioning and gear selection to continue.

The high-voltage battery is located under the vehicle floor in front of the rear axle and belongs to a new generation of compact and relatively lightweight units with enhanced storage capacity. Its 96 prismatic cells store 13.0 kWh of energy and maintain optimal performance with help from their own cooling circuit, which can also be coupled to the circuit used by the air conditioning system to ensure effective cooling even when requirements are at their highest.

Focus on efficiency: the drive management system
Optimal efficiency at every stage of a journey and in every scenario is naturally the overriding aim of the drive management system, so both new SUVs are always started in electric mode, except in extremely cold conditions.  At low speeds, their AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) emits an e-sound to warn other road users of their presence. Both versions can cover up to 31 miles* at speeds of up to 87mph in electric-only mode with zero local emissions according to the WLTP test.

In “Auto-Hybrid” mode, the main operating mode, the drive management system divides the tasks between the 1.4 TFSI and the electric motor intelligently and efficiently. The electric motor supports the four-cylinder engine in a wide range of situations, such as when overtaking or when accelerating from low speeds, when it uses its strong and rapidly produced torque to imperceptibly bridge the few tenths of a second needed by the turbocharger to build up pressure.

Drivers can prioritise electric drive at a touch of the EV button. The drive management system constantly evaluates data from numerous sources, including the route information from the navigation system and feedback on the immediate surroundings from the vehicle sensors, to enable it to identify when the car is approaching a town sign, a speed limit or a roundabout, or is getting too close to the vehicle ahead. When the accelerator pedal is released, the Audi Q3 45 TFSI e and the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e start to coast with the TFSI engine switched off in most situations.

The right mode for the right requirements: “Hold”, “Charge” and dynamic
While the drive management system intelligently exerts its influence in the background, the driver always remains in control. Pushing the EV button determines which of the auto hybrid and electric-powered driving modes is active, and at the same time provides access to others  –  “Battery Hold” and “Battery Charge” – offered by menus that open up in the MMI operating system at the same time. These serve to keep the battery charge at the current level or to increase the state of charge. The driver can also fine tune the response of elements including the steering, engine and transmission using the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. It offers Comfort, Auto , Dynamic and Individual profiles, and in the Dynamic setting can make the full 330Nm (243.4 lb-ft) torque reserve of the electric motor available to the driver for up to 10 seconds if the S tronic is set to “S” mode and the accelerator is fully depressed. As soon as the pedal is released again, the electric motor switches to recuperation and recovers energy in generator mode. In this way, the vehicle can also decelerate quickly thanks to its electric motor.

Irrespective of the driving profile, both models always recuperate when the driver applies the brakes. Up to around 0.3 g – i.e. in the vast majority of braking situations encountered in everyday driving – the electric motor performs the deceleration alone. It is only when the brake pedal is applied more heavily that the hydraulic wheel brakes come into play, activated by an electric brake servo. Thanks to the precise blending, the transition is practically undetectable, and the recuperation remains active. During braking, the system can recover up to 40 kW of power through the electric motor and store this in the battery.

Conveniently versatile: charging at home and on the go
The Audi Q3 45 TFSI e and the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e can be charged using alternating current via a domestic AC wallbox using the Type 2 cable supplied. The process can be completed in 3h 45 minutes, and can be remotely controlled using the free myAudi app, which enables the driver to define activation and deactivation times and also to remotely activate the climate control via a smartphone or tablet to pre-heat or cool the cabin before a journey begins. A mode 3 cable is also supplied for charging at public AC charging terminals, a process which can be expedited through the use of the e-tron Charging Service, which gives TFSI e drivers the opportunity to recharge at more than 155,000 charging points across Europe with just a tap of a single RFID card that generates one convenient monthly invoice.

To make light work of long journeys the comfort suspension that is standard for Technik (Q3 only), S line and Black Edition versions of the Q3 45 TFSI e and Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e provides suppleness and absorbency for smooth, serene electric-only travel but also a good degree of agility for more press-on driving. Vorsprung versions are equipped with an electronically controlled suspension system with adaptive damping which smoothes surfaces and straightens out corners even more impressively. The standalone Q3 Technik model rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the SUV and Sportback move up to 19-inch rims when equipped to S line and Black Edition level, and to a 20-inch design in Vorsprung form.

From S line level upwards all models benefit from privacy glass and the exclusive S line design for the bumpers, sill trims and diffuser, while Black Edition and Vorsprung versions add a black styling pack which darkens elements such as the grille surround, window cappings, roof rails (SUV only) and door mirror housings. LED lighting is standard across the board, with Vorsprung versions upgrading to Matrix LED units for even more precisely targeted illumination. S line interior detailing is common to all specification options bar the entry level Technik, with Piano Black inlays and a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel setting apart the Black Editions.

True to form in the Q3 range the seats offer excellent comfort, and the rear bench is notable for offering forward and backward adjustability to prioritise luggage or passengers. Its backrests are also divided into three sections and recline at seven different angles. The luggage compartment has a basic volume of 380 litres which increases to 1,375 litres in the Q3 45 TFSI e and 1,250 litres in the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e when the seats are folded down.

Experts in networking: Infotainment and Connectivity
Two displays form the basis of the operating and display concept in the new TFSI e models. Centrally positioned in the instrument panel, the MMI touch unit with its 10.1 inch screen shows the operating status of the hybrid drive system and is the access point for the top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus, which is a standard feature of all UK versions. Its functions are displayed on the MMI Touch display and in the instrument binnacle by the Audi virtual cockpit with its 10.25-inch screen, which is also standard. An expanded version with additional functions – the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus – is fitted to Vorsprung models. In both formats a powermeter can be called up to show the drive system’s operating status, output and recuperation phases, the battery’s state of charge, and the range. Functions can be activated via the central touch screen, through the multi-function steering wheel or using natural-language voice control, which can source information stored in the cloud when formulating its responses to commands.

Access to the Audi connect portfolio is included for all versions on a three-year subscription basis and supplements the navigation with Google Earth mapping, traffic information online, points-of-interest search functionality and Car-to-X services based on the principle of swarm intelligence. These include updates on available roadside parking spaces in the vicinity and notifications of upcoming hazards and speed limits sourced through the networking of the Audi fleet. Audi connect also includes media streaming, online news and access to e-mail.

The Audi smartphone interface is standard, and enables a handset‘s Apple Car Play or Android Auto environment to be reproduced on the MMI display. Vorsprung versions also feature upgrades including the Audi phone box for inductive wireless charging of mobile handsets and the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound, as well as enhancements such as a panoramic glass sunroof, Alcantara and Twin leather-upholstery, front electric seat adjustment and heating and a host of additional driver assistance aids. A particular highlight among these is adaptive cruise assist, which supports the driver with acceleration, steering and braking within the limits of what is currently legally permissible, substantially enhancing comfort on long journeys in particular. These features add to a core package of assistance features for all models that includes Audi pre sense basic, pre sense front, Audi side assist blindspot monitoring and lane departure warning.

  • Update for a TDI titan – the new generation Audi SQ5

    Audi SQ51

Its mighty V6 TDI engine, and the advanced electrically powered compressor which so compellingly quickens its responses, have already earned the SQ5 TDI the distinction of being the first Audi SUV to wear the evocative S badge. Now both key elements have raised their game yet again in the new generation model, which combines improvements to that already highly acclaimed powerhouse with extensive modifications inside and out. These include the introduction to the cabin of the latest Audi touch-screen MMI Touch control and the availability of new next generation digital OLED rear lighting as part of an exterior rework that brings the top tier SUV back up to speed with contemporary Audi design principles. On arrival in the UK in early 2021 the new generation model will be offered in two formats – SQ5 TDI and SQ5 TDI Vorsprung – the latter featuring a particularly comprehensive selection of indulgences and practical driver aids.

“It’s the immediacy of the power delivery as much as the sheer force of the acceleration that makes such a lasting impression in the SQ5 TDI,” says Director of Audi UK Andrew Doyle. “Now that the formidable engine and independent electric compressor have been primed to perform even more readily and even more efficiently, and the successful SUV they power has been updated inside and out, the SQ5 TDI promises to be even more crushingly effective as a driver’s car and as an ownership proposition.”

In its latest incarnation, the 3.0-litre V6 at the heart of the new generation SQ5 TDI delivers 341PS and 700 Nm (516.3 lb-ft) of torque, the latter across a wider engine speed range between 1,750 rpm and 3,250 rpm. Peak power is also produced earlier than before, helping to propel the mid-size performance SUV from rest to 62mph in 5.1 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. An actuator in the exhaust system gives the V6 a particularly sonorous sound.

    3.0-litre TDI with extensive modifications
Numerous detail enhancements have been made to the V6 3.0 TDI. Its original aluminium pistons have been replaced with stronger, lighter forged steel equivalents that not only reduce heat losses but also ensure combustion is faster and more efficient thanks to their newly introduced stepped recesses. The solenoid injectors used to inject the fuel operate with consistently high precision thanks to a new piezo sensor that monitors the closing of the needle. They can perform up to eight injections per work cycle, with injection quantities that are scalable with even greater precision. The maximum injection pressure is 2,500 bar.

The direct air/air intercooler that was originally located in the bumper has been replaced by an indirect water/air cooler in the inside V of the engine. The shortened intake air paths this permits help to build up boost pressure quickly. The indirect intercooler is more effective and can even heat the intake air shortly after the engine is started in cold ambient conditions in order to reach the ideal combustion temperatures more quickly. This means that the exhaust gas cleaning system can respond more quickly to further optimise emission control.

The turbocharger now features a smaller and lighter compressor wheel that spools up with exceptional speed – a key factor in the engine’s spontaneous and high torque build-up – while the exhaust manifold also benefits from improved insulation, enabling the exhaust gas to reach the optimum temperature more quickly after a cold start.

MHEV and EPC: even greater efficiency and response
As before, the SQ5 TDI is able to strike its remarkable compromise between performance that more than warrants the S badge and efficiency that is in step with modern day demands thanks to its 48-volt mild hybrid system (MHEV) and electrically powered compressor (EPC).

The MHEV integrates a belt alternator starter (BAS), a lithium-ion battery that provides buffer storage and a 48/12-volt voltage converter. When the car decelerates, the MHEV system recovers up to 8 kW of power. It also enables the SUV to coast for up to 40 seconds with the engine switched off, after which time it is unintrusively restarted by the powerful BAS.. The MHEV system has the potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.7 litres for every 62 miles driven.

The EPC intervenes whenever the exhaust gas flow provides too little energy to drive the turbocharger. A compact electric motor, which also uses the compact 48-volt system, accelerates the compressor wheel of the EPC to 65,000 rpm in roughly 300 milliseconds. In the latest generation SQ5 TDI the EPC is now used more frequently and across a broader engine map, and it makes its presence felt particularly strongly during step-off acceleration and when pulling away from low engine speeds. Its interaction with the MHEV, the turbocharger, the engine itself and the tiptronic transmission has been further optimised in this latest application to make the abundant power and torque even more readily accessible.

Two SCR catalytic converters interact: the exhaust gas aftertreatment
For exhaust gas aftertreatment, Audi uses twin-dosing technology based on two SCR catalytic converters working together. The first of these is located directly behind the manifold in the exhaust gas system, where it also functions as a particulate filter. The second is located further away from the engine under the vehicle floor. Each of the converters covers different operating situations and exhaust gas temperature windows, and each is supplied with the AdBlue urea solution from a 24-litre tank. Thanks to twin-dosing technology, the SQ5 TDI substantially undercuts the limits of the new “Euro 6d ISC-FCM AP” emissions standard, which also stipulates a dramatic reduction in NOx emissions in the real driving test conducted on public roads in everyday traffic situations. In the official tests, the latest generation SQ5 TDI proved capable of returning up to 34.4 MPG with CO2 output from 216g/km.

Shifting gear quickly and conveniently: the eight-speed tiptronic
The significant modifications to the engine and ancillaries have been taken into account when configuring the new shift strategy for the eight-speed tiptronic transmission, which delivers fast and smooth shifts and incorporates a clutch that interrupts the power flow when the SQ5 TDI is in coasting mode with the engine switched off.

As with all S models, output is channelled to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, which in normal driving conditions distributes it between the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio. In the event that grip is compromised, the majority of the available torque is directed to the axle with the better traction. Up to 70 percent can flow to the front wheels and a maximum of 85 percent to the rear. During fast cornering, the wheel-selective torque control makes minor brake interventions at the wheels on the inside of the bend to maintain the best possible trajectory.

Sport differential: more torque, greater adjustability
As a further aid to adjustability, the sport differential which is standard for the SQ5 TDI Vorsprung actively controls the distribution of torque between the rear wheels. It sends more torque to the wheel on the outside of the bend that has better grip, literally pressing the car into the curve and reducing understeer considerably. The outer rear wheel also receives more torque when the car is accelerating out of tight-radius corners to further improve driving dynamics. A high performance braking system, including six-piston S-embossed aluminium brake calipers on the front axle which grip discs with a diameter of 375 millimetres, provides consistently reassuring stpping power during more committed driving.

    Supreme precision: the suspension
The suspension that supports quattro and the sport differential is no less sophisticated. The five-link front and rear set-up, which lowers the body by 30 millimetres versus the standard Q5, naturally has S-specific tuning and also features adaptive damper control with with exceptionally wide operating parameters that enable it to very effectively prioritise cruising comfort, challenging cornering and everything in between.

Together with the sport differential (where fitted) and the engine, steering and tiptronic transmission, the controlled dampers are networked into the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, which is fitted as standard. The driver can choose from six profiles which influence the operating characteristics of these systems: auto, comfort, efficiency, dynamic, offroad, and individual. A seventh profile, allroad, is available to drivers of the SQ5 TDI Vorsprung, which features S-specific adaptive air suspension – this air suspension adjusts the ride height of the body through five levels depending on the driving situation.

    Audi SQ5 TDI

    New accents: the exterior design
Sat low on its standard 20-inch wheels the remodelled Audi SQ5 TDI has a powerful stance, with striking details that give it an even more rugged appearance. Vertical fins provide structure to the large side air inlets on the front bumpers, and in the octagonal Singleframe grille that is specific to the S models, large octagonal honeycomb sections are linked by narrow bars. These have an aluminium finish, as do the fins on the air inlets. At the rear, a matte aluminium strip is integrated in the lower bumpers, below which are the diffuser insert and four chromium-plated oval tailpipe trims. SQ5 TDI Vorsprung models, with their larger 21-inch alloy wheels and additional black body detailing, are even more distinctive.

The latest lighting technology: Matrix LED headlights and digital OLED rear lights
Matrix LED headlights with automatic high beam and dynamic indicators are fitted as standard to both models, and the rear lights in SQ5 TDI Vorsprung versions also feature new digital OLED technology. The OLED rear lights are split into three tiles of six segments each, and at the point of order customers can select the light signatures these display from a choice of three, each with its own specific design for coming and leaving home. When the Audi drive select mode “dynamic” is activated, the lights also display a signature that is specific to this setting. The OLED rear light also has a proximity detection function that activates all the OLED segments if a road user approaches a stationary SQ5 from the rear to within a distance of less than two metres. The OLED lighting technology is also available as an option for SQ5 TDI models.

Black, grey or red: the interior
Inside, the SQ5 TDI can be finished in black, dark grey or red. Its electrically adjustable sport seats featuring embossed S logos offer a three-mode massage function and are upholstered in fine Nappa leather with a rhombus pattern in contrasting stitching which is carried through to the seat edges and steering wheel. Brushed aluminium inlays bisect the dashboard and doors in SQ5 TDI models, while the SQ5 TDI Vorsprung is trimmed in carbon which is also optionally available for its standard counterpart.

At the rear, the standard “plus” version of the seat bench not only features a base that can be moved backwards and forwards to give priority to luggage or passengers, but also tilt adjustable seat backrests. Via the electrically operated tailgate the luggage compartment has a basic capacity of 520 litres, increasing to 1,520 litres with the rear seat backs folded down. Roof rails in either aluminium in standard models or black in Vorsprung versions also maximise versatility, as does the SQ5 TDI’s capacity to tow trailers weighing up to 2.4 metric tons (braked, on a 12 percent gradient).

Operating system, infotainment and Audi connect
The new 10.1-inch MMI touch display, a central element of the MIB 3 modular infotainment platform, serves as the nerve centre of the new generation SQ5 TDI models. As an alternative to fingertip entry via the touch screen, the state-of-the-art system can also accept commands made via the multifunction steering wheel and using the spoken word thanks to advanced natural language voice control. If several drivers use the car, they can store their personal settings in up to six individual profiles. The 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit is naturally also standard and provides three different graphic layouts: Dynamic, Sport and Classic. In SQ5 TDI Vorsprung models it is also supplemented by a head-up display projecting important information onto the windscreen in the driver’s field of vision.

The internet-enabled Car-to-X services available as part of the standard Audi connect package can help drivers find parking spots on the roadside and warn of hazards such as slippery roads and fog on the route ahead. The Audi phone box is also on hand in both versions to connect smartphones with the vehicle’s aerial and charge them inductively. A digital connection between the car and the user’s smartphone can also be established using the myAudi app, which enables a number of features to be controlled remotely using the handset.

Convenient and precise: the driver assist systems
SQ5 TDI Vorsprung models feature a wealth of upgrades such as a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System, a panoramic glass sunroof and electric steering wheel adjustment, as well as virtually the full complement of driver assistance features available across the Q5 range. Chief among these is the Tour Pack, which incorporates an adaptive cruise assist system that can assume responsibility for accelerating, decelerating and keeping in lane over long distances, and predictive efficiency assist to foster a predictive driving style with the goal of lowering fuel consumption, plus turn assist and collision avoidance assist functions.

Audi offers post Brexit price protection peace of mind
The announcement of the new SQ5 comes at a time when Audi UK is now offering added peace of mind to customers. Sections of the retail automotive industry in England had to close from November 5, however Audi’s showrooms remain virtually available to customers, while ‘click and collect’ and home delivery services are in operation. Service departments also remain open to customers to provide essential servicing, maintenance and MOT work. Retails in Scotland and Northern Ireland continue to be open, while those in Wales reopened this week following a national lockdown.

In addition to this while there is continuing uncertainty over Brexit negotiations Audi has stepped up and now guarantees it will not pass on any potential post Brexit tariffs for all orders placed before 17:30 on December 2, 2020. The move is aimed at giving buyers confidence and offering certainty in uncertain times*.

  • Better by design – the new generation Audi SQ2

    Audi SQ21

It is already adept at quickening the pulse, and now the 300PS Audi SQ2 is even more capable of catching the eye as it adopts the sharper new look and upgraded lighting technology already favouring the other members of the compact SUV range. Enhancement of the S model that first brought sub-five-second acceleration potential to the Audi Q family’s singularly stylish lead-in SUV two years ago has also taken place beneath the skin. The cabin now benefits from additional equipment, improved infotainment and web-based Audi connect functionality and an expanded portfolio of driver assistance systems. When they become available in the UK from November 19, 2020 the latest generation SQ2 and even more striking SQ2 Black Edition models will also be joined by a newly inroduced SQ2 Vorsprung with a particularly exhaustive equipment list. Deliveries of all variants will begin here early in 2021.

“For the SQ2 we took the basic template set so successfully by high performance hatchbacks like our S3 Sportback and used it to create a version of our already capable compact SUV that has a great deal to offer fans of both formats,“ commented Director of Audi UK, Andrew Doyle. “The carefully considered design and technology updates it receives here as part of the improvement programme for the entire Q2 model line will only increase its appeal further still, as wlll the installation of the very appealing new Vorsprung model at the head of the range.“

Impressive all-rounder in peak form: the 2.0 TFSI
The 2.0-litre TFSI engine powering the new generation SQ2 draws its 300PS output from 1,984 cm3 of displacement, and makes peak torque of 400 Nm (295.0 lb-ft) available to the driver across a broad swathe of the rev range from 2,000 to 5,300 rpm. The turbocharged four-cylinder always responds keenly to throttle inputs, and its sound becomes fuller as speed increases thanks in part to the switchable flaps in the exhaust system. The key figures it delivers speak for themselves: 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, a top speed of 155mph, the potential for up to 34.0 MPG and CO2 emissions from 188 g/km based on the official test cycle.

A number of key enablers support the delivery of thrills with relative thrift in the SQ2. The Audi valvelift system (AVS) switches the stroke of the outlet valves between two levels to continually optimise the flow of exhaust gas to the turbocharger and therefore enhance response, particularly in the lower reaches of the rev range; sophisticated thermal management ensures highly effective coolant flow; and integration of the exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head helps the engine to warm up quickly, ensuring that exhaust gas aftertreatment can be activated as early as possible. Needless to say, thanks to these and other measures the Audi SQ2 complies with the limits of the new Euro 6 AP emission standard.

Driving pleasure and driving safety: the seven-speed S tronic and quattro drive
The 2.0 TFSI works in harmony with a seven-speed S tronic transmission in the top-tier Q2. Its lower gears feature closely spaced ratios while the seventh gear is long to maximise fuel economy. The super-fast dual-clutch transmission features D or even more performance-focused S modes, and also enables manual shifting via the lever or the steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. If the standard Audi drive select system is in “efficiency” mode, the clutch disengages when coasting, allowing the compact performance SUV to freewheel.

Like every Audi model that has ever borne the evocative S badge the updated SQ2 is firmly affixed to the road by quattro all-wheel-drive, in this case based on an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch that distributes torque smoothly between the axles. In the event that the front wheels break traction, the clutch redirects output completely to the rear within a few milliseconds. It features here in latest generation form including many improvements to elements such as the bearings and oil supply which increase its efficiency. The entire clutch weighs just under one kilogram less than its equivalent in the previous model, due in part to the fact that the control unit is now integrated in the clutch housing.

During faster driving on more challenging roads, the electronically controlled quattro system can direct a proportion of the torque to the rear axle in the interest of agility, and enables precise turn-in during load reversal. Its highly intelligent reactions are also supported by wheel-selective torque control, which makes minor brake interventions at the wheels on the inside of a corner to maintain the best line through to the exit.

    Dynamic character: suspension and steering
The ideal operating conditions for quattro drive are provided by S sport suspension which lowers the body by 20 millimetres versus the Q2, and by standard progressive steering whose ratio becomes more direct as lock is applied. This makes the SQ2 even more agile when manoeuvring, in urban traffic and through the hairpins.

Audi drive select allows the driver to influence how the updated SQ2 responds to inputs. The dynamic handling system features “auto,” comfort,” “dynamic,” “efficiency” and “individual” modes that can fine-tune the operating profile of the steering, the S tronic transmission, the engine and other systems. For driving a little further off the beaten track, the driver can also activate an off-road mode for the Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC) at the touch of a button.

Sizeable brakes with S-branded calipers and a diameter of 340 millimetres at the front axle and 310 millimetres at the rear guarantee reassuringly forceful stopping power. In the SQ2 they sit behind 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 tyres, and in the SQ2 Black Edition they are housed within 19-inch wheels with a contrasting grey diamond-cut finish and 235/40 section tyres

Strong character with high definition lines: the exterior design
With its crisp, precisely defined corners and edges the SQ2 is a car full of character. The frontal styling is now even more striking, particularly in the area below the upgraded headlights. Its octagonal Singleframe is slightly lower, making the front section appear wider, and its insert now also references the polygon motif that characterises the entire car. The design of the large implied air intakes surrounded by wide frames in selenite silver is also more expressive, and narrow slits between the radiator grille and the bonnet pay homage to the design of the iconic Audi Sport quattro.

LED headlights are standard for SQ2 and SQ2 Black Edition models, while the SQ2 Vorsprung takes a step up to Matrix LED units. Each of their modules houses seven individual LEDs that deliver an intelligently controlled high beam light that always illuminates the road as brightly as possible without blinding other road users. Ten further light-emitting diodes installed behind rhomboid optical components generate the daytime running light, while seven LEDs generate the dynamic indicators that are incorporated in conjunction with Matrix LED. The SQ2 also features LED lights at the rear, which are also paired with dynamic rear indicators in Vorsprung versions. These top specification headlights and rear lights also offer dynamic light sequencing when the car is locked and unlocked.

In profile, the revised SQ2 highlights its membership of the S series through its aluminium-look mirror housings, while its pronounced sill inserts, roof edge spoiler and platinum grey C-pillar blades add to its distinctive visual appeal. At the rear, the pentagonal polygon treatment is now carried through into the bumper, within which is a diffuser insert framing two sets of twin exhaust tailpipes. Raising the standard powered tailgate reveals a minimum of 355 litres of luggage capacity, which can be expanded to 1,000 litres if the rear seat backrests are folded.

The latest generation SQ2 can be specified in a choice of seven colours, and its C-pillar is offered in two contrasting shades – the standard platinum grey or brilliant black – or alternatively in the chosen body colour. Upgrading to the SQ2 Black Edition adds gloss titanium black detailing for the the Singleframe surround, the strips on the air inlet grille and the rear diffuser, and a matt titanium black finish for the radiator grille, the underbody protection, the air inlet surrounds and the rear diffuser. The exhaust tailpipes are also trimmed in black chrome and the exterior mirror housings and C-pillar blades in solid Brilliant black.

Dark tones, upscale materials: the interior
As is the case with all Audi S models, the interior of the SQ2 features high quality materials presented in a dark colour scheme. Front sport seats upholstered in a black leather and Alcantara mix in the SQ2 and SQ2 Black Edition or in full Fine Nappa leather in the SQ2 Vorsprung provide ample support and also now feature electrically adjustable lumbar support. The headlining is also finished in black. In the latest models the door panels are crafted from a new, more tactile soft-touch material, and the air vents and S tronic selector lever have a new look.

In terms of equipment, the already extensive core list for all versions expands for this latest generation to include a rear view camera to complement the rear parking sensors, which are now also joined by front sensors for enhanced perimeter monitoring. Protection of the SQ2, its occupants and other road users was already cutting edge in the class thanks to the inclusion as standard of Audi pre sense front, which uses radar to observe the area in front of the car in order to avoid accidents or reduce their severity.

On-board infotainment technology is also significantly enhanced across the board, not only by the addition of the fully digital virtual cockpit with its 12.3-inch binnacle display but also by MMI navigation plus with its 8.3-inch monitor controllable via rotary pushbutton or natural language voice control. As before, the Audi smartphone interface also features as standard to enable key apps from a handset to be displayed and controlled by the MMI system.

MMI navigation plus includes an LTE module for fast data transmission, and a three-year subscription to the web-based services of Audi connect, granting access to online traffic, weather and local fuel pricing information and Google Earth navigation mapping. It also now includes the new features Audi connect emergency call & service and Audi connect remote & control, which via the smartphone-based myAudi app allow the owner to lock the vehicle remotely or check the fuel fill level and range, for example.

Exceptionally inclusive: the new SQ2 Vorsprung
As elsewhere in the Audi range, Vorsprung specification offers the ultimate pre-defined equipment package for the SQ2. Taking the Black Edition model as its basis, but marked out externally by its exclusive alloy wheels and Matrix LED lighting, the top tier SQ2 is further enhanced by features such as front seat heating for the upgraded Fine Nappa leather sport seats, a panoramic sunroof, Bang & Olufsen audio and the Audi phone box enabling wireless charging and connection of smartphones to the vehicle’s aerial.

Its driver assistance capability also increases considerably thanks to the inclusion of systems such as park assist for automatic ‘hands-free’steering into and out of parking spaces, Audi side assist blindspot monitoring, the cross traffic assist reversing aid and adaptive cruise assist, the latter making its SQ2 debut as part of the model update. Adaptive cruise assist enables the driver to let the system largely take over the tasks of accelerating, decelerating and steering within a lane with the help of its frontal camera and sophisticated sensors. In order to maintain automatic lateral guidance, the driver need only gently touch the steering wheel, which is part of the system, to prove that they are paying attention.

  • JMS tuning

    2020 JMS tuning

As a result of the global corona pandemic, a year with practically no tuning fairs and meetings. After the Tuning World Bodensee in Friedrichshafen and the PS Days in Hanover, also the undisputed highlight of the year of the refinement and customization industry, the Essen Motor Show, was canceled, so that the community in this extraordinary season – apart from a few smaller events – practically only could come together online. How relatively this “only” can be rated, however, was shown by the tuning specialists at JMS Fahrzeugteile by hosting a mega-tuning event on the last Saturday of November and sending it out into the world via a professional live stream from the large forging hall of Motorworld Manufaktur Metzingen.

In front of the great backdrop of the historic industrial building, JMS Managing Director Jochen Schweiker and especially presenter William De Fensfoster from d-fens.tv presented products and project vehicles from JMS customers, suppliers and business partners to the livestream viewers – even some world premieres were unveiled.

For example, the suspension experts from KW suspensions rolled a Lamborghini Huracán with the brand new Variant 5 coilover suspension into the colorful spotlight of the forge hall, which was also equipped with an exclusive Novitec finish: In addition to a Torado N-Largo kit, the Italian fighting bull was wearing 9×20- and 12.5×21-inch rims with tires of the dimensions 245/30R20 and 325/25R21.

ST suspensions, also a brand of the KW universe, presented the ST XTA Plus 3 coilover kit with 3-way adjustment as a world premiere. This was already installed in a Focus ST with 19-inch Motec MCR2 ultralight wheels.

One of the program highlights was undoubtedly the world premiere of the two new wheel designs from the Barracuda Racing Wheels brand sold by JMS: The new “Dragoon” design from the Barracuda Ultralight Series was already installed on a VW Golf, while the Nissan Silvia drift car from the Drift Team “Driftinglele ” rolled on the new Barracuda motorsport rim “Summa”. Both wheels will be available in three different colors from next spring.

JMS Fahrzeugteile presented various tuning conversions, the focus of which was on different segments, such as chassis technology, exhaust technology, body kits, wheels and much more. Particularly impressive: vehicles created as joint projects, for example in cooperation with KW, Eisenmann, Friedrich Motorsport, Senner Tuning, TR Exclusive, cardiologie and Schwabenfolia, such as a BMW M2 Competition, a Ford Focus ST or a 360 hp Cupra Leon ST.

The exhaust gas experts from Eisenmann Exhaust provided the audience with technical information about their exhaust systems and presented a 3-series BMW of the current generation G20 with Oxigin alloy wheels and a Z4 with gasoline particle filter as project vehicles. As a world premiere, Eisenmann had brought new tailpipe variants.

The “Multimedia” tuning segment was not neglected either: the Gladen car hi-fi specialists presented various components, illustrated by vehicles such as the BMW X5, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai i30 N or Mercedes-AMG A 35.

RaceChip presented an increase in performance via a chip tuning box for the new Golf 8 and provided interesting information about the product range.

  • Passion for quality and progressiveness: the new Audi e-Tron GT

    The Audi e-tron GT

Passion for detail, maximum precision, and top quality: The new Audi e-tron GT reflects all the passion with which Audi develops and builds cars. For the production of the electrically powered Gran Turismo at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site, the company uses customised new technologies – however, the finishing touches are applied by highly skilled hands. And since the dynamic work of art must also sound good, Audi has brought musical flair and technical competence to bear in composing a unique sound for the e-tron GT. It sounds powerful and progressive – just as an Audi should.

Production of the Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT is the brand’s first fully electric car to be built in Germany. The Gran Turismo will start rolling off the production line at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site at the end of 2020. The small-series production facility has been expanded, upgraded, and converted for its new role. The skilled craftsmanship from the previous facility has been retained and is supplemented by digital processes and smart technologies. During the expansion, production planners made use of new virtual methods. The tests of the work procedures on the assembly line and the logistic processes were conducted in the virtual domain for the first time, with container planning also performed with the help of VR technology. Production of the e-tron GT was designed without physical prototypes – a first at Audi.

Large areas of the body of the all-electric Gran Turismo are constructed from ultra-high-strength steel and aluminium. To produce this material mix in the planned quantities, a body shop was established that combines the skilled craftsmanship of the employees with the full potential of automated production technology. It consists of an innovative body assembly line along which each body passes twice. It is constructed around what is called the two-way framer, in which ten robots are used to attach the inner and outer side panels. It combines all manufacturing steps involved in joining the sides in a single system – thus making production of the Audi e-tron GT possible on the existing floorspace.

The inline measuring procedure for the bodies is also new. It guarantees even greater accuracy and can respond very quickly to minute deviations. At the end of the body assembly line is where precise craftsmanship comes into play: Experienced workers fit the add-on parts and check the finish of the completed body. The expressive design of the Audi e-tron GT places unusually high demands on production quality – the side wall frame, for instance, has a remarkably large draw depth of 35 centimetres (13.8 in) between its highest and lowest point.

The expanded assembly line includes 36 instead of the previous 16 cycles. The e-tron GT shares it with the R8 – this integration of two technically completely different cars is unique in the Volkswagen Group. Both models are moved using the same driverless transport vehicles and an electrically powered monorail system. At one station of the line, humans and robots work side by side. A 3D printer is also on hand to produce customised assembly aids at the employees’ request. Once completed, every car is driven for 40 kilometres (24.9 mi) on public roads, which also includes sections on the highway and in urban traffic.

“With the integration of the Audi R8 and Audi e-tron GT, a unique combination of craftsmanship and smart factory technology is coming to life at Böllinger Höfe,” says Production Head Wolfgang Schanz in summary. “I am especially proud of the passion and spirit of our team.”

The e-sound of the Audi e-tron GT
Whether it’s quality, design or technical characteristics – the Audi e-tron GT is a car packed with all the passion of Audi. This also applies to the sound of the electrically powered Gran Turismo. Engineers Rudolf Halbmeir and Stephan Gsell conceived and designed the progressive electronic sound – on the computer, in the sound laboratory, inside the moving car, and in customer studies.

As with every electric car, the e-tron GT also features the statutory acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS), although embedded within a broader acoustic spectrum. A loudspeaker fitted in the front of the vehicle emits the AVAS sound. For customers ordering the optional sound package, a second, large loudspeaker is added in the rear. In parallel, two loudspeakers in the interior provide an emotional sound experience. Two control units continuously remix the e-tron GT sound based on variables such as speed or accelerator position. The Audi drive select system allows drivers to set whether and how intensively they wish to experience the sound.

  • Audi RS 3 limousine on Barracuda Ultralight Project 3.0

    2020 Audi RS 3 limousine

Julian Hanses is used to dealing with fast cars – even with very fast cars: The 23-year-old from Hilden has been active in motorsport since he was ten years old and started in the Formula 3 and 4 series after starting karting. This year Julian Hanses even drives Porsche 911 cars in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. Of course, such a petrolhead would also like to be motorized appropriately in everyday life: As Daily, Julian Hanses drives an Audi RS 3 in a stylish limousine version, which was equipped with chic Barracuda Ultralight Project 3.0 light-alloy wheels by JM Cardesign from Bergheim.

As a motorsport enthusiast, Julian Hanses knows about the driving dynamics advantages of low unsprung and rotating masses, so that he undoubtedly appreciates the weight advantage of the Ultralight Series one-piece rim from Barracuda Racing Wheels, which is achieved by means of the flow-forming production process: In the size built into his five-cylinder limo 8.5×19 inches, each wheel weighs only 10.9 kg. The milled spoke contours of the wheels in Flash Red contrast beautifully with the otherwise matt black rims and the glossy black Audi body. The weight-optimized 19-inches were soled with tires of the standard size 235/35R19.

Speaking of driving dynamics: The RS 3 is made even curvier by the KW coil springs installed by JM Cardesign, which reduces the ground clearance and the vehicle’s center of gravity by around 30 millimeters.

  • Another far-reaching change for the Audi A3 Sportback – the new 40 TFSI e plug-in hybrid

    2021 Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI1

A little ‘e’ goes a long way in the latest Audi A3 Sportback – it means that this new TFSI e-version of the high-tech compact hatchback can travel effortlessly, economically and environmentally soundly under purely electric power for up to 41 miles, and then for hundreds more when its powerful and frugal TFSI engine takes up the task. The new Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e plug-in hybrid will be available to order in the UK later this week in Sport or S line specification with prices starting from £33,060 OTR, and will reach its first customers here towards the end of the year.

“Compact hatchbacks are of course particularly well suited to urban environments, as are electric vehicles, so combining the two formats in a state-of-the-art package displaying all the essential Audi hallmarks naturally creates an attractive proposition for daily commuting and city driving,“ says Director of Audi UK Andrew Doyle. “The beauty of the new A3 Sportback TFSI e is that it can also reach the city limits well before it reaches its own  – it can travel far further afield impressively efficiently and then be refueled and recharged quickly and conveniently. It’s a consummate all-rounder.“

With the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e, Audi is continuing its electrification offensive, which has already brought plug-in hybrid versions of the A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7 models to market. Now, the compact models are following suit. The A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e brings the concept first employed in its successful predecessor, the A3 Sportback e-tron, right up to date, and it will be followed in the near future by a more powerful variant with an even greater emphasis on performance.

TFSI engine plus electric motor: drive, power transmission, and battery
A 1.4 TFSI serves as the combustion engine for the compact plug-in hybrid model. The four-cylinder petrol engine offers a peak power of 150PS and makes more than 250 Nm (184.4 lb-ft) of torque available in the range between 1,550 and 3,500 rpm. It works with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor which is lighter and more compact than its predecessor and has a greater power density. It produces 80 kW and 330 Nm (243.4 lb-ft) of torque, and as before is integrated into the housing of the six-speed S tronic transmission.

Together, the 1.4 TFSI and the electric motor deliver a system output of 204PS. When they join forces to deliver maximum boost, system torque reaches 350 Nm (258.1 lb-ft). The compact plug-in hybrid model sprints from rest to 62mph in 7.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 141mph. In the WLTP test cycle, it proves capable of returning up to 282.5 mpg with a CO2 output of no more than 31g/km. A six-speed S tronic transfers the output from the engine and motor to the front axle. The dual-clutch transmission is equipped with an electric oil pump that maintains oil supply and enables gear changes to continue even when the TFSI is deactivated temporarily.

The lithium-ion battery is located below the vehicle underbody in the area of the rear
seats of the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e. Its 96 prismatic cells store 13.0 kWh of energy, around 48 percent more than the installation in the A3 Sportback e-tron due to improved cell chemistry. A separate cooling circuit controls the temperature of the battery. It can also be coupled with the air conditioning system, if necessary. This allows customers to drive on electric power even at higher outside temperatures.

    Efficiency takes priority: drive management
Optimal efficiency is always the target for the drive management system, which is supplied with a large volume of data by the navigation and assistance systems and the network of vehicle sensors. The new A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e always starts electrically, up to a temperature of -28 °C, and if required the driver can then ensure that electric drive is always prioritized throughout the journey using the EV button. WLTP test data confirms that up to 41 miles can be covered using the electric motor alone, meaning that the majority of everyday journeys can be completed with zero local emissions.

Fully electric travel is possible at speeds of up to 87mph, while at the other end of the scale the statutory e-sound of what is known as the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System is emitted at low speeds to warn surrounding pedestrians and other road users that the vehicle is approaching.

When the A3 PHEV is in hybrid mode, the two power sources divide the work intelligently. In the interest of efficiency, the drive management system selects freewheeling with deactivated TFSI in most situations when decelerating, allowing the car to coast. Two special modes can be selected via the MMI operating system: “Battery hold” and “Battery charge.” In “hold” mode, the available battery charge is held at the current level. In “charge” mode, as much electricity as possible is supplied to the battery.

Dynamic mode and S gear: full force acceleration
To influence how the drive system and other features such as the power steering and S tronic operate in the new A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e, the driver can also use Audi drive select, which is a standard feature and offers selectable Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual profiles. If the S tronic is set to S gear in the Dynamic mode, the hybrid drive exerts its maximum force on kick down, releasing the full boost torque for up to ten seconds. As soon as pressure on the accelerator pedal eases, the electric motor automatically switches to recuperation. The resulting deceleration creates a true one-pedal feeling.

While braking, the electric motor performs the deceleration alone up to around 0.3 g, which is sufficient to take care of the vast majority of braking applications in everyday driving. The hydraulic wheel brakes only come into play if the driver presses the pedal more forcefully. The transition is virtually imperceptible, and recuperation remains active. While braking, the electric motor can recover up to 40 kW of energy.

Sport and S line versions of the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e are factory fitted with 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels respectively, but as wheel size can bring about minor variations in the compact hatchback’s electric-only driving range customers have the option to go up or down in size depending on their preferences. Thus the S line can be fitted with a 17-inch wheel as a no-cost option so business users can still qualify for the six per cent BIK banding,  The wheels are carefully controlled by a sophisticated multi-link suspension system combining refined ride comfort that complements the plug-in hybrid’s hushed electric-only cruising with excellent stability and composure for occasions when the full 204PS output is put to good use on more challenging roads.

Charging at home and on the road: a full charge from a conventional socket in just four hours
When the time comes to charge the new A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e it can be plugged into a domestic AC wall box using the Type 2 cable supplied. A full recharge of a completely empty battery takes a little more than four hours, and the driver can decide when this takes place by using the myAudi app to define activation and deactivation times, meaning that cheaper off-peak electricity supply periods can be factored in. The app can also be used to remotely activate and modulate the climate control via a smartphone or tablet so that the driver can return to a car that is not only fully charged but also perfectly temperate inside. When outside temperatures are low, electric heating elements warm up the interior, while the electrically powered air conditioning cools the interior down when outside temperatures are high.

Charging is of course also possible at public charging points, and the myAudi app can also help here by pinpointing their location across the country and also facilitating their usage by highlighting those that are available to subscribers to the e-tron charging service. The service enables owners of Audi e-tron and TFSI e models to activate and pay for charging at numerous public charging points operated by a total of 18 suppliers across the UK using one RFID payment card that pools all costs incurred into one simple monthly invoice.

Typically Audi A3: driving pleasure and great everyday utility

LED headlamps to flank the wide, hexagonal Singleframe in both versions, and can be optionally upgraded to Matrix LED units. Their digital daytime running lights, a pixel array consisting of 15 LED segments, generate an e-shaped light signature – the symbol of the plug-in hybrid drive.

The interior with its crisply defined dashboard, striking air vents, attractively sculpted door handles and new compact gear shifter has the same purposeful air. It seats five comfortably while providing up to 280 liters of capacity for their luggage. To access the compartment, an electric tailgate that can be opened and closed easily with a foot motion is available as an option. When the rear seats aren’t required, capacity can be increased to 1,100 liters by folding the seatbacks.

The cabin design neatly and discreetly integrates a central 10.1-inch MMI Touch screen and a 10.25-inch fully digital Audi virtual cockpit. The primary 10.1-inch touch-screen display gives access to all media, navigation and internet-based Audi connect functions and includes handwriting detection as well as natural language voice control. In the TFSI e models, it also displays information on the energy flow between the various components of the hybrid system. In addition to its wide range of functions, the Audi virtual cockpit in the TFSI e models also features a power meter that displays the system’s output, the drive system status, the recuperation activity, the battery’s state of charge, and the range.

Intelligent and versatile: connectivity and equipment
Like all new A3 models, the compact plug-in hybrid is equipped with the third-generation modular infotainment platform delivering ten times more computing power than its predecessor.

MMI navigation plus offering flexible and intelligent route guidance with satellite images from Google Earth and predictions on the development of the traffic situation is standard, as is Audi connect, which performs all its connectivity tasks at LTE Advanced speed and includes an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot. A connection between the car and the user’s smartphone is easy to establish via the standard Audi smartphone interface and myAudi app, and the optional Audi Phone Box can link the device to the vehicle aerial and charge it inductively.

Audi connect makes a broad spread of web-based services available, including online traffic information, news, weather, and additional resources such as local fuel pricing, opening times, and user reviews relating to points of interest. In the longer term, it will also be able to make use of the swarm intelligence of the Audi fleet to provide Car-to-X features such as lane-by-lane information on traffic flow, alerts for upcoming hazards such as slippery roads and fog, and an assistant that will make it easier to find an on-street parking space in selected cities.

As well as the sophisticated infotainment technology that features as standard, equipment highlights for the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e-Sport include dual-zone electronic climate control, twin leather upholstery and the assistance systems Audi pre sense front, lane departure warning, turn to assist, and swerve assist.

Over and above their larger wheels and exclusive styling, S line models add LED rear lights with dynamic rear indicators, privacy glass, front sport seats with S-embossing and contrast stitching, and upgraded interior inlays.

New option highlights include a panoramic glass sunroof, and Ambient Lighting Pack offering a choice of 30 interior lighting colors adjustable via Audi drive select, and a Comfort and Sound Pack bringing on board upgraded Bang & Olufsen audio, and enhanced parking system, and front-seat heating. In the driver aids section, the adaptive cruise assist system is also a stand-out – it assists the driver in many situations with steering, accelerating, and braking within the limits of what is currently legally permissible, and is available as part of the Driving Assistance Pack.
