Crucially, we have achieved all this without compromising refinement, comfort, and luxury. Alongside our employment of industry-leading dynamic control and infotainment systems, the DB12 signifies the beginning of Aston Martin’s most thrilling new era.”

    Performance

DB12 doesn’t hold back; it makes a bold and unequivocal statement. It exudes the confidence of a car that sprints from 0 to 60mph in a mere 3.5 seconds, reaches a top speed of 202mph, and boasts unparalleled power from its 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine. This extraordinary engine, meticulously crafted by Aston Martin engineers, unleashes an industry-leading 680PS/671bhp at 6000rpm and 800Nm/590lb ft of torque between 2750-6000rpm—an impressive 34% increase compared to its predecessor, the DB11.

To achieve these heightened performance outputs, various enhancements have been made. The cam profiles have been modified, compression ratios optimized, turbochargers enlarged, and cooling capacity increased. The entire cooling system has undergone a complete redesign, with two additional auxiliary coolers added to the central main radiator to meet the elevated thermal demands. To ensure the engine maintains desired intake air temperatures under all conditions, a supplementary low-temperature radiator has been integrated into the charge cooler water circuit.

Furthermore, the auxiliary outboard engine oil cooler now boasts more than twice the surface area of its predecessor, effectively managing the lubrication circuit’s requirements. Optimal cooling has been further achieved by enhancing thermal airflow, increasing the open apertures by 56% to allow a greater influx of cold air into the radiators. Additionally, centrally positioned bonnet vents situated above the twin turbos facilitate the escape of hot air.

    Handling and dynamics

Power is transmitted through an 8-speed automatic gearbox, accompanied by a first-time inclusion on an Aston Martin DB model: the Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff). Unlike a traditional Limited Slip Differential, the E-Diff is linked to the car’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. It can swiftly transition from fully open to 100% locked, providing the driver with immediate response and precise, consistent handling.

Working seamlessly with the latest generation ESC system, the E-Diff significantly enhances the DB12’s cornering capabilities under any circumstances. In low to medium-speed corners, the DB12 exhibits impressive agility and responsiveness, truly coming alive on demanding roads with exceptional front-end grip and remarkable traction. Moreover, the DB12 maintains complete composure in high-speed corners, instilling the driver with a sense of confidence and control.

To enhance driver engagement and intensify performance, the DB12 incorporates a revised Final Drive Ratio (3.083:1), which results in punchier acceleration during gear shifts. Additionally, a unique transmission shift calibration reduces shift speeds and provides distinct shift characteristics tailored to the DB12’s diverse range of dynamic modes.

The DB12’s bonded aluminum structure has undergone enhancements, resulting in a 7% increase in global torsional stiffness. This improvement stems from modifications to various underbody components, such as the engine cross brace, front and rear undertrays, front crossmember, and rear bulkhead. As a result, torsional rigidity and lateral stiffness have been refined, particularly between the front and rear strut towers. This strengthens the attachment points for the dampers and rear axle, leading to improved suspension performance, isolation, refinement, on and off-center steering feel, and an overall heightened sense of driver connection.

With the introduction of new-generation intelligent adaptive dampers and meticulous engineering of key elements like stiffer anti-roll bars, the DB12 boasts class-leading driving dynamics and a significantly expanded range of capabilities.

These cutting-edge dampers possess a 500% increase in force distribution bandwidth, offering a vast improvement that allows for greater control and refinement across the DB12’s various drive modes. By leveraging this expanded scope, Aston Martin’s vehicle attribute engineers have pushed the DB12’s character well beyond that of its class rivals.

Thoughtful calibration of the dampers enables the gradual introduction of heightened response and tighter body control as the dynamic modes are cycled through. The suspension bushings have been meticulously tuned to deliver exceptional refinement and isolation. Combined with the E-Diff and ESC system, this means that in GT mode, the DB12 retains a luxurious ride quality for sublime and agile cruising. In Sport and Sport+ modes, the DB12’s responsiveness is intensified, and body control is tightened, enveloping the driver in a more compact driving experience, allowing the car to truly come alive on challenging roads like never before.

As the primary point of interaction between the car and the driver, considerable attention has been dedicated to perfecting the DB12’s Electronic Power Assisted Steering system (EPAS). The process begins with the installation of a non-isolated steering column, enhancing the dynamic feel by preserving the purity and uncorrupted nature of steering inputs from the driver and feedback from the road.

The calibration of the EPAS focuses on providing a balanced on-center feel along with a swift and natural rate of response. Care has been taken to avoid exaggerated or overly aggressive steering responses, resulting in an intuitive and confidence-inspiring feel in the DB12. This allows the driver to relax during long journeys while still being able to enjoy the car’s precision, responsiveness, and agility when attacking corners.

To maintain consistency and enhance driver connection, the EPAS features a constant 13.09:1 ratio rack with variable, speed-sensitive assistance and 2.4 turns lock-to-lock. The level of assistance is dynamically adjusted based on the DB12’s drive mode programs, gradually reducing as the car moves towards the most aggressive mode (Sport+).

To match its impressive speed, the DB12 is equipped with standard cast-iron 400mm front discs and 360mm rear discs. These discs have grooved and drilled faces to improve thermal capacity. The brake booster has also been fine-tuned to provide better pedal feedback, instilling greater confidence in the driver with a firm pedal feel and immediate stopping power combined with progressive response.

Emphasizing its Super Tourer credentials, the DB12 offers an optional Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) system. The CCB option provides enhanced braking performance and reduced brake fade even at high temperatures of up to 800°C. By choosing the CCB, the car benefits from a weight reduction of 27kg in unsprung mass compared to the standard braking system. This reduction contributes to improved ride quality and steering response.

As a testament to its commitment to the DB12’s Super Tourer nature, Aston Martin has partnered with Michelin to introduce the new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires, specifically designed for this model. The front tires are sized 275/35 R21 103Y, while the rear tires are 315/30 R21 108Y. These tires are not off-the-shelf versions but feature bespoke compounds and tuning by the Aston Martin dynamics team. They offer exceptional reactivity for precise steering, along with maximum grip in both wet and dry conditions.

The Pilot Sport 5 S tires also incorporate noise-cancelling polyurethane foam inserts in their construction, reducing tire noise transmitted to the car’s interior by 20%. This results in lower noise levels, improved refinement, and enhanced driver comfort.

The DB12 comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels, with a front size of 9.5J and a rear size of 10.5J. There are three design options available: the standard Five-Spoke, and the optional Multi-Spoke and Y-Spoke. These wheels come in various colors and finishes, including Gloss Silver, Satin Platinum, Satin Black, Satin Black Diamond Turned, Satin Bronze, and Satin Black Diamond Turned. Aston Martin has optimized the structure of these lightweight wheels to maximize performance without compromising aesthetics, using advanced simulation techniques to remove excess mass. As a result, these wheels are 8kg lighter than the previous 20″ offerings.

    Driver centricity

The DB12 is equipped with an industry-leading Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system designed to provide the driver with optimal dynamic support without feeling overly restrictive. The system offers four pre-defined ESP modes: Wet, On, Track, and Off, which can be selected via the ESP button on the center console. These modes are seamlessly integrated to deliver progressive control while avoiding abrupt interventions.

The ESP system utilizes information from various sensors positioned around the vehicle, including the advanced six-axis inertia measurement unit. This unit collects complex accelerometer data in real-time, enabling the system to build a precise picture of the car’s behavior. Using advanced algorithms, the ESP system predicts the available grip level and reacts to momentary instabilities.

The goal of this sophisticated system is to operate discreetly in the background, allowing the driver to extract the best performance from the car while maintaining a high level of safety. The same predictive and model-based technology is applied to all the car’s chassis control systems, including ABS, Traction Control, and Lateral dynamics, resulting in an unprecedented integration that enhances driver confidence and enjoyment.

In addition to the multi-mode ESP, the DB12 offers five pre-defined drive modes: GT, Sport, Sport+, Wet, and Individual. Each mode progressively adjusts the car’s dynamic behavior, with increasing freedom for the driver to explore the limits of grip and traction. Wet mode enhances stability on low-grip surfaces, while Individual mode allows precise customization of the vehicle systems according to the driver’s preferences, including chassis, powertrain, ESP, and traction control settings.

The drive modes can be selected using a knurled rotary controller on the center console, enabling quick and easy cycling through the five pre-sets. Additionally, individual override buttons for the chassis, ESP, and exhaust are located on the center console, allowing the driver to prioritize their preferred settings and override the default drive mode settings.

  • Toyota Tacoma

After nearly two decades as the champion of the mid-size pickup truck market, the Toyota Tacoma is ready for its next chapter. This go-anywhere truck is entirely new for 2024 with epic adventures in mind, improving upon every winning aspect that has made it a stalwart for truck buyers for years along with Toyota’s legendary quality, durability, and reliability and much, much more.

Redesigned from the ground up and built upon the TNGA-F global truck platform shared with Tundra and Sequoia, the all-new Tacoma was designed and engineered for the U.S. market. For its fourth generation, Tacoma utilizes a new high-strength boxed, steel-ladder frame; adds numerous features that off-road enthusiasts can play with; features an available fully redesigned multi-link coil rear suspension that improves ride and handling; and offers two powerful and efficient turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains including a top-of-the-line i-FORCE MAX hybrid producing 326 horsepower and a massive 465 lb.-ft. of torque. Tacoma will also introduce the world to Toyota’s all-new Trailhunter grade, first revealed at the 2022 SEMA show as a Trailhunter concept, that’s a purpose-built overlanding rig available right off the dealer lot.

“With even more off-road capability and the quality, durability, and reliability that our customers expect along with a host of options for every owner, we’re confident that Tacoma will remain the top choice for mid-size pickup buyers when it arrives later this year,” says Toyota group vice president and general manager Dave Christ.

The all-new 2024 Tacoma will go on sale later this year with i-FORCE MAX models arriving in early 2024. Manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale dates.

Design and Development Driven by “Tacoma-ness”

Toyota’s North American-based CALTY Design Center located in Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan led the design efforts for the new Tacoma, as they did with the Tundra and Sequoia that launched last year.

“Our primary design goal for the all-new Tacoma was to be authentic to the way our customers use their trucks for rugged outdoor fun,” says Kevin Hunter, president, CALTY Design Research. “We looked at our truck DNA and the Toyota Baja race trucks for inspiration to capture the extreme spirit of offroad adventure. High lift, big tires, slim body, and a powerful athletic stance define the iconic Tacoma look, referred to as ‘Tacoma-ness’.”

The CALTY team of designers focused on the theme of a “Badass Adventure Machine” when defining the essence of the new Tacoma. This refers to Tacoma’s engineered toughness along with its athletic attitude. The design team strives for Toyota trucks to have a family resemblance, each with unique personalities defined by each one’s purpose. For Tacoma, its narrow body and wide upper grille are a nod to the original HiLux, with features like the aggressive skid plates expressing the extreme ruggedness of Tacoma. Other signature design elements include the high-mount headlamps, side functional air intakes, hexagonal grille motif, as well as integrated roof and tailgate spoilers.

Engineering research and development was conducted at Toyota Technical Centers in Michigan, Arizona, and California. The collective engineering teams embraced the “Tacoma-ness” concept and worked tirelessly to develop the next-generation Tacoma as an extremely capable multipurpose vehicle that can go almost anywhere. Improvements were made across all grades. The team enhanced Tacoma’s off-road capability, from severe rock crawling to high-speed desert racing. As a result, Tacomas will perform in widely varied environments, on road and off. This includes everything from a luxurious night out in the Limited grade or traversing Black Bear Pass in the Tacoma TRD Off-Road that is more capable than ever.

“We strove to provide even greater attribute separation between grades,” says Sheldon Brown, chief engineer, Tacoma. “Each has a distinctive focus on the core attribute and uses hardware, spec, and performance-based tuning to deliver that unique experience more so than in the past.”

    Rugged Construction and Capability

The new Tacoma utilizes Toyota’s TNGA-F global truck platform shared with the all-new Tundra and Sequoia. Much like its full-size brethren, high-strength steel with blanking and laser welds is used throughout the chassis to increase rigidity over the previous generation, and aluminum is used on the upper body to reduce weight. Frame crossmembers are also strengthened to increase durability and carry Toyota-available overlanding gear such as rooftop tents and camp fridges. Additionally, the roof is equipped with integrated attachment holes that allow the ability to easily add roof rack rails on all models combined with a roof channel sealer to ensure a watertight seal. A new front cross member was constructed for the steering gear box, which adds rigidity via additional cross member support while enhancing steering input for the driver and handling dynamics. A new high lift jack point is also integrated into the rear frame end.

Also enhancing ride and handling characteristics on Tacoma is a newly available multi-link rear suspension. This system replaces the previous model’s leaf springs in favor of a set of coils. However, leaf springs remain standard on SR, SR5 XtraCab, and TRD PreRunner grades. Tacoma also now gets four-wheel disc brakes for increased braking performance compared to the previous model, while TRD models and above are equipped with a larger front brake package. TRD models and above equipped with i-FORCE MAX add a larger rear brake package. An electronic parking brake allows for low-speed radar cruise control and a brake hold function. To provide improved steering feel and facilitate the incorporation of additional safety and convenience features, Tacoma will now have electric power steering.

Tacoma now features suspensions tuned specifically to each grade. For instance, TRD Sport has red TRD sport-tuned shocks for a more responsive feel. The TRD Off-Road grade is equipped with monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks for extended wheel travel and greater heat dissipation and includes an end stop control valve (ESCV) that provides increased damping force as the suspension comes closer to full bound stroke. TRD Pro comes fitted with FOX’s new QS3 three-way adjustable internal bypass shocks with remote reservoirs for improved high speed off-road performance and FOX Internal Floating Piston (IFP) rear bump stops to improve bottom out feel. Trailhunter includes new Old Man Emu (OME) 4×4 Suspension by ARB that is tuned for optimum levels of off-road control and load carrying capability. Limited grade features a new Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system that constantly adjusts damping forces based on changing road conditions. The linear-solenoid-type AVS system features built-in actuators in the front and rear shock absorbers to continuously change damping force based on road conditions to give the new Tacoma a smooth and luxurious ride.

Maximum towing capacity for Tacoma is rated at 6,500 lbs. on SR5 i-FORCE and TRD PreRunner XtraCab grades, and maximum payload increases to 1,709 lbs. on TRD Off-Road. To help make towing a breeze, Tacoma is available with a variety of supporting features including a trailer brake controller, trailer backup guide, and digital display mirror. Trailer Back Up Guidance aids in overall maneuvering of trailers, while the available Straight Path Assist feature is designed to help your truck and trailer back up in a straight line. The available 360-degree cameras create a top-down view to aid overall visibility, including tough-to-see areas around the truck and trailer. When operating with Toyota’s integrated trailer brake controller, the Blind Spot Monitor is designed to recognize blind spots for not only the truck, but certain trailers as well.

To make things even easier for truck duty, there is a 7-percent increase in bed volume that is useful for loading necessary gear under an available tonneau cover. Additionally, the aluminum tailgate features an available power open and close function with jam protection, and a quick release and close button is integrated within either taillight. Gas grades offer an available 400W AC inverter outlet in the bed and on the rear of the center console, while i-FORCE MAX grades come standard with a 2400W AC inverter. 12V DC power access is also available in both the bed and in the cabin. Trailhunter features an integrated high output air compressor in the bed for airing large diameter tires back up quickly after airing down for spending days, or weeks, on the trail.

    Taking Tacoma to the MAX

Tacoma will offer two powerful and efficient powertrains using a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. For entry-level SR grades, this engine produces 228 horsepower and 243 lb.-ft. of torque. For all other grades, output increases to 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque when paired with the new eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). Enthusiasts rejoice: a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) with automatic rev matching and anti-stall technology is available. Manual transmission models produce 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.

New to the mid-size, body-on-frame pickup segment is Tacoma’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, the most powerful powertrain ever offered on Tacoma. Available on TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and standard on the TRD Pro and Trailhunter halo models, i-FORCE MAX pairs the 2.4-liter engine with a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission feeding off a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack that creates a total system output of 326 horsepower and a whopping 465 lb.-ft. of torque, nearly doubling the torque output of the current-gen truck with the V-6 engine. When equipped with i-FORCE MAX, Tacoma can ascend an 8-percent interstate grade without the need to downshift, making long road trips more pleasant than ever in a Tacoma. Fuel economy estimates for all powertrains will be announced closer to their on-sale dates.

Tacomas with rear-wheel drive feature an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD), and four-wheel-drive models have an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range along with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD). An electronic locking rear differential is standard on TRD PreRunner, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter grades. The new and luxurious Limited grade now features a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a center locking differential on i-FORCE MAX models.

    The Ultimate Adventure Machine

Tacoma’s legendary off-road capability is taken to the next level for its new generation, making it the ultimate adventure machine. An all-new available front stabilizer bar disconnect increases flex at the push of a button. With the front stabilizer bar disconnected, Tacoma’s articulation increases by 10 percent compared to the previous-gen truck. The electronic stabilizer bar disconnect will even be compatible with Toyota-approved lift kits.

Tacoma has up to 33.8-degree approach, 23.5-degree breakover, and 25.7-degree departure angles on TRD Pro without the tow package. Running ground clearance maxes out at 11 inches on TRD Pro. And with tons of available cameras installed on the new Tacoma, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter drivers can view potential obstacles that are looming on the trail via the Multi-Terrain Monitor that can display crisply on the available 14-inch touchscreen. For the sketchiest of situations, Tacoma offers standard front and optional rear recovery hooks and underbody protection.

Multi-Terrain Select, which is now functional in both 4WD-High and 4WD-Low, offers adjustable settings to help control wheel spin on a variety of terrain such as Mud, Dirt, and Sand. Tacoma also adopts the new, significantly quieter CRAWL Control function that acts as a low-speed, off-road cruise control that allows the driver to focus on steering while the system maintains one of five selectable speeds. When traction is extremely limited, the available electronically activated locking rear differential can help split power 50/50 to the rear wheels. Downhill Assist Control is another off-road feature available and helps the driver navigate descents by limiting the speed of the vehicle. Manual-equipped Tacomas get a standard clutch start cancel that allows the truck to start in gear, which means the driver doesn’t have to press the clutch when facing challenging off-road driving scenes when starting.

    All-New Trailhunter: Go Far

Tacoma introduces the all-new Trailhunter grade to the lineup of rugged Toyota Trucks. Toyota has long been a top choice for overlanders due to its legendary quality, durability, and reliability, and now enthusiasts can get a factory-developed overlander straight from Toyota. To help bring Trailhunter to life, Toyota worked with renowned Australian-based ARB to co-develop Old Man Emu (OME) position sensitive 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks with rear external piggyback style remote reservoirs, a steel rear bumper, robust rear recovery points, and a bed utility bar with removeable MOLLE panels. ARB engineering even worked on-site at Toyota alongside the project development team to co-develop Trailhunter. With either 5- or 6-foot bed Double Cab configurations available, serious overlanders can take their Trailhunters to the next level with available light- or heavy-duty versions of a full ARB bed rack to support additional gear like rooftop tents, canopies, or a camp shower.

The OME shocks along with the 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires boost up Trailhunter an additional two inches in the front and one and a half inches in the rear. A high-clearance trail exhaust tip is also standard along with a low-profile high-mount Trailhunter Air Intake that is routed up the passenger-side A pillar to source cleaner air to the i-FORCE MAX. Trailhunter protection includes rock rails and a multitude of hot-stamped high strength steel skid plates for serious off-the-grid-adventure capabilities straight from the factory.

Trailhunter is also equipped with a bronze-colored “TOYOTA” heritage-inspired grille with an integrated 20-inch LED light bar that’s complemented by white/yellow color switching RIGID LED fog lamps. Lighting in the Trailhunter’s bed is triangulated to help avoid dark spots, and integrated bed side scene lights help illuminate the area surrounding the bed for setting up camp at night. A powerful 2400W AC inverter provides juice to two locations in the cabin and the rear deck where both 12V and USBs can also be found to power other devices such as an ARB Fridge Freezer. Trailhunter also comes pre-wired for accessories with three auxiliary toggle switches on the dashboard.

In addition to Toyota Genuine parts and accessories, additional accessories are available through the recently announced Associated Accessory Products program (AAP) for customers to customize their Tacoma Trailhunter exactly the way they want straight from Toyota’s participating dealerships. The AAP ecosystem will continue to evolve over time and currently includes over 100 accessories such as off-road recovery gear, rack attachment brackets for storage gear, outdoor sporting equipment carriers, and more. These products can also be conveniently rolled into customer’s monthly payments, and they aren’t exclusive to Trailhunter, either, making accessorizing Tacoma through Toyota easier than ever.

    TRD Pro: Go Fast

While Trailhunter is specifically developed for off-the-grid overlanding adventures, Tacoma TRD Pro elevates its proven go-fast, desert running attributes for its newest generation. Red aluminum front TRD upper control arms optimize front geometry and reduce unsprung weight, while Fox internal bypass 2.5-inch manual modal Quick Switch 3 (QS3) shocks can be adjusted to three different settings via dials on the shock bodies to tune compression damping. Built around the new multilink rear suspension, FOX Internal Floating Piston (IFP) bump stops can help knock the edge off some of the gnarliest terrain.

For a more menacing stance than ever before, TRD Pro sits two inches higher in the front and an inch and a half in the rear and is three inches wider than a Tacoma SR5. Black flow-formed TRD wheels are wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires. TRD Pro’s standard i-FORCE MAX engine breathes more efficiently courtesy of a TRD performance air intake and TRD cat-back dual tipped exhaust. A new integrated LED light bar works in conjunction with the LED headlights to optimize beam pattern aiming for balanced light output with significant range, and a set of RIGID white LED fog lamps increase visibility during inclement weather. TRD Pro also gets a high-clearance ARB rear metal bumper with red recovery hooks and an aluminum TRD front skid plate.

Debuting exclusively on the new TRD Pro is a segment-first IsoDynamic Performance Seat that helps provide a smooth, confidence-inspiring ride for those in the driver and front passenger seats. The goal of this patent-pending feature is to stabilize the driver’s field of vision to improve focus, comfort, and reduce fatigue while on rugged trails. The IsoDynamic Performance Seat uses an air-over-oil shock absorber system allowing for vertical and lateral seat movement simultaneously to dampen body movement and stabilize the head and neck to keep alignment with the spine. This dampening effect is tunable based on body mass and occupant preference and can be bypassed, if desired, via levers on the seatbacks.

    All the Latest Tech Inside

The all-new Tacoma is filled with the latest technology and information screens that bring significant updates to the cabin. A new 8-inch or available 14-inch multimedia touchscreen displays Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia system that debuted on the 2022 Tundra pickup and is designed and engineered by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technologies team. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and pairs well with the available Qi wireless charging pad with enhanced power output. A USB-C data and charging port is integrated on the right side of the display, and dual USB-C charging ports are included in the front row and available for the rear passengers. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with four different styles is standard on higher grades while a 7-inch gauge cluster is standard on lower grades.

Standard on all grades is a Smart Key System with push-button start. With an active Remote Connect trial or subscription, an available Digital Key connects with compatible smartphones to allow vehicle entry, tailgate access, and vehicle starting (4G network dependent). The Digital Key can also be remotely shared with others to give more control over vehicle access rather than giving someone the physical key. Additionally, a Smart Card key is available, which is a credit card-sized smart key that allows the driver to carry their key easily and conveniently with them wherever they go.

Tacoma makes the most of its cabin for this newest generation. Gas models have three times more storage space under the rear seat compared to the current-gen truck, and the rear seatback can also fold down flat for additional loading surface. A shelf is integrated into the instrument panel for the passenger to put a phone or other small items, and MOLLE panels on the center console and door panels allow for even more versatile storage. Rubber grips are located on the passenger side of the center console, on all doors, and on the front passenger side. Double Cab models also include assist handles on the B-pillar overhead. A hidden side pocket on the driver’s side dashboard has a QR code that directs owners to the Toyota website for dimensions to design and 3D print their own accessories such as a lantern, multitool, or toolkit.

For those who love to jam out both in their truck on the way to camp and at the campsite, Tacoma now offers a premium ten speaker JBL® audio upgrade, including a new externally coupled subwoofer for improved output and a JBL® FLEX portable speaker. When docked on the dash, the JBL® FLEX charges and operates as the center channel speaker. When undocked, the JBL® FLEX portable Bluetooth speaker can run for up to six hours, pair with other Toyota JBL® FLEX Portable Speakers, and can be submerged in up to three feet of water.

    A Tacoma for Everyone

Tacoma will be offered in numerous grades and configurations for its new generation. Two cab styles are available with either a 5- or 6-foot bed: a four-door Double Cab and a new two-door XtraCab with clever storage features behind the front two seats.

XtraCab, available on SR, SR5, and TRD PreRunner grades, is all about maximum utility and comes exclusively with seating for two, a functional rear cabin storage area, and a 6-foot bed. This configuration has no rear doors and no rear seat but makes the most of its cabin with all kinds of additional storage options. Lockable storage on the rear floor is useful for storing things like small packs, toolboxes, or a tacklebox, and lockable storage on the back panel can store things like shovels and fishing poles. Quick access to rear storage is aided by a long-slide driver’s seat with slide memory. Additionally, the passenger seat can fold flat and can be used as a workspace and includes a water bottle holder.

In terms of grades, Tacoma is available in SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Returning for 2024, TRD PreRunner is available in the XtraCab configuration with two-wheel drive only. It has a lifted front suspension, larger diameter BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, and an electronically locking rear differential. For a sportier look and feel, TRD Sport gets black 18-in. TRD wheels, color-keyed door handles and overfenders, hood scoop, black exterior badging, and aluminum pedals. The TRD Off-Road grade is more capable than ever thanks to new Bilstein remote reservoir monotube shocks for better heat dissipation and the available front stabilizer bar disconnect system.

Trailhunter is also all-new for 2024 and offers a well-equipped overlanding rig that’s adventure-ready right from the dealer.

Tacoma will offer a robust color palette that includes Supersonic Red, Blue Crush Metallic, Underground, Wind Chill Pearl, Solar Octane, Celestial Silver Metallic, Black, Ice Cap, and Bronze Oxide. A new TRD Pro-exclusive color for the 2024 model year will be announced this summer.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Standard on All Tacomas

All 2024 Tacoma models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Toyota’s suite of active safety and convenience systems. New-to-Tacoma TSS enhancements are made possible by system sensors with improved detection capability. This suite of features includes:

    • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
    • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
    • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
    • Lane Tracing Assist
    • Road Sign Assist
    • Automatic High Beams
    • Proactive Driving Assist

Proactive Driving Assist is new to Toyota Safety Sense. When system operating conditions are met, using the vehicle’s camera and radar, this system is designed to provide gentle braking into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help support driving tasks such as distance control between a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist. Proactive Driving Assist is not a substitute for the Pre-Collision System and operates in different circumstances.

The Toyota Safety Sense features have been enhanced for TSS 3.0:

    • The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection has enhanced detection capabilities thanks to new system sensors. It receives enhanced intersection support with improved detection capability in certain circumstances. In addition to pedestrian and bicyclist detection, this system now includes the capability to detect a motorcyclist.
    • Lane Departure Alert will now provide Steering Assist as well as enhanced lane recognition that includes detection of certain 3D objects, like guardrails, that may be used to help define the lane.
    • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will have Full-Speed Range capability and adds a fourth following distance setting, from the previously available three. Enhanced vehicle detection allows for the ability to detect more than one preceding vehicle, as well as vehicles in adjacent lanes. This helps the system to provide smoother, more natural speed adjustments, especially when the driver changes lanes.
    • Lane Tracing Assist is new to Tacoma, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control must be enabled for it to function. The system requires detectable lane markings in order to function. Like Lane Departure Alert, lane recognition is enhanced over prior TSS generations. In addition to lane centering, this system also helps provide more space between vehicles being passed in adjacent lanes. It works by offsetting the vehicles’ driving path with minor steering adjustments while keeping the vehicle within its lane.
    • An Emergency Driving Stop System is a new function of Lane Tracing Assist. It’s designed to monitor the driver’s inputs, such as steering operation, to determine if they’re inattentive or non-responsive, such as during a medical emergency. This feature is designed to bring the vehicle to a stop if the driver doesn’t respond to alerts to take control.
    • Road Sign Assist is also new to Tacoma. This system is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs, and certain warning signs, and display an icon of the sign on the Multi-Information Display (MID).

In addition to TSS 3.0, other available features include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) for added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning. Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) also comes standard.

The bespoke valve stack has been adjusted and accumulators in the struts are used for the first time in the 750S. These changes improve ride comfort, roll control, steering feedback, and cornering balance. The new spring and damper design reduces the car’s weight by 2kg. PCC III delivers even greater dynamic breadth than its predecessor, the 720S, while maintaining comfort and significantly improving circuit performance.

The 750S offers greater agility than the car it replaces, thanks to a 6mm wider front track, new suspension geometry, and a faster steering ratio. The electro-hydraulic steering system provides precise feedback and features a new power-assistance pump.

The interior of the 750S is designed to be even more driver-focused, with innovative technology and high-quality materials. The new displays, located on the steering column, provide information and instruments. The controls for selecting Powertrain and Handling modes are on either side, enabling the driver to switch between Comfort, Sport, and Track Active Dynamic settings without taking their hands off the wheel.

The McLaren Control Launcher (MCL) is a new technology that allows drivers to customize their driving experience by saving their preferred settings for aero, handling, powertrain, and transmission. The MCL button can be pressed to instantly recall these settings. The 750S also features Apple CarPlay® and a new Central Information Screen with richer graphics. The Rear View and Surround View camera system is upgraded for higher definition, and a vehicle-lift system raises the front of the car in just four seconds. The 750S also has bespoke engine mount tuning and a new central-exit exhaust layout, which gives a distinct tone at high engine speeds, creating a more emotional connection between driver and car.

750S customers can choose to upgrade to a track brake system featuring ceramic discs and monobloc calipers from the McLaren Senna, along with Formula 1-inspired caliper cooling technology. Super-Lightweight Carbon Fibre Racing Seats, track-focused Pirelli P ZERO™ Trofeo R tyres, and lightweight titanium wheel bolts are also available options. The car’s design features refinements such as a new lower nose section, narrower intakes, and a lengthened rear deck that channels air towards a raised and lengthened carbon fibre active rear wing. The car’s carbon fibre monocoque construction provides excellent visibility, and the interior can be customized with Nappa leather or a combination of Alcantara and Nappa leather, along with new TechLux and Performance interior themes. Additionally, a new audio system has been developed by Bowers & Wilkins, and the car comes with a three-year vehicle warranty and a three-year scheduled maintenance/service plan.

    MINIMISING WEIGHT FOR MAXIMUM BENEFIT

The new 750S supercar from McLaren is lighter than its predecessor, with a weight of just 1,389kg (DIN). It can be made even lighter with additional carbon fibre and lightweight options, making it weigh just 1,277kg in its dry lightest form. This makes it 193kg lighter than its closest rival and gives it a leading power-to-weight ratio of 587PS-per-tonne. The racing seats are 17.5kg lighter than before and the 10-spoke wheels bring a significant 13.8kg weight reduction. The 750S Spider is also lighter than its rivals due to the stiffness and rigidity advantages of carbon fibre, and weighs just 1,438kg (DIN). Super-Lightweight Carbon Fibre Racing Seats are also available as an option, using an innovative double-skin shell technology that reduces weight by 33%.

    FOCUSED ON DRIVING EXHILARATION

The goal of the 750S development programme was to make the car more engaging for drivers and to increase its performance. This was achieved by improving agility, feedback and connection, resulting in a more fun driving experience.

The suspension system of the 750S has been improved with new geometry and a lighter coil spring and damper design. The car features the latest generation of McLaren’s Proactive Chassis Control linked-hydraulic suspension, which offers precise body control and a compliant ride. The suspension also has driver-selectable modes that can alter the character of the vehicle.

The front track is 6mm wider than on the 720S, and the car has a hydraulic roll circuit in place of conventional mechanical anti-roll bars. The tuning of the compression and rebound of the dampers has been improved, and a new way of tuning dampers was used to perfect the 750S. The result is a car with improved dynamic performance and a more repeatable response, regardless of the temperature or environment.

The development team focused on improving low-speed performance by engineering passive hydraulic valves and electronic valves in the semi-active dampers. The new dampers work with corresponding spring rates on each axle to improve the steering response and ensure both axles respond in harmony. Bump steer was also mitigated to achieve faster transient steering response and greater agility. The electro-hydraulically assisted steering has been honed with a faster steering ratio and greater steering linearity. The driver can choose between three handling modes – Comfort, Sport, or Track – to experience different driving characteristics. The new hardware and software improve the dynamic abilities of the 750S while offering better comfort and usability than the McLaren 720S.

McLaren Variable Drift Control (VDC) allows drivers to adjust traction control intervention independently of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) setting, enabling a smooth transition from electronic intervention to none at all for those who wish to fully explore the dynamic capabilities of the 750S. The larger surface area of the active rear wing improves braking performance, deploying in under half a second to increase downforce, improving high-speed stability and reducing braking distances. Carbon ceramic discs are paired with a new brake booster for better modulation and pedal feel.

For track-focused 750S customers, a new track brake upgrade with 390mm carbon ceramic discs and monobloc calipers is available. The discs take seven months to create and are 60% stronger with four times the thermal conductivity of conventional carbon ceramic components, resulting in increased braking performance without increasing disc size or weight, reducing brake fade and wear rates. The track brake upgrade, which includes monobloc front calipers from the McLaren Senna, a new brake booster and vacuum pump, and integrated caliper cooling inspired by Formula 1, delivers precise pedal feel and incredible stopping performance even under the most demanding circuit conditions.

The active rear wing on the 750S has a 20% greater surface area than the 720S, optimizing aerodynamic efficiency while being lighter by 1.6kg due to its carbon fiber construction. A cut-out in the centre section maintains rear visibility and protects the wing from high exhaust temperatures when the vehicle is stationary after extended circuit running.

McLaren’s Composites Technology Centre in Yorkshire, UK, uses new production methodologies specific to the 750S to build the hydraulically actuated wing. The wing has three primary operational positions, each designed for specific configurations and speeds unique to the coupe and Spider models.

When the Aero button is pressed in the cabin, the Driver Downforce mode partially deploys the active wing, increasing downforce levels during high-speed cornering. DRS automatically activates drag reduction functionality when accelerating in a straight line, up to the maximum vehicle speed. High Speed Braking mode fully deploys the active wing in less than half-a-second, delivering significantly increased rear downforce that improves high-speed braking stability and reduces braking distances.

The 750S comes standard with Pirelli P ZERO™ tyres, engineered specifically for the model by McLaren and its tyre partner, Pirelli. Higher-performance Pirelli P ZERO™ Corsa and racetrack-focused Pirelli P ZERO™ Trofeo R tyres are available options, as are the Pirelli P ZERO™ Winter tyres from McLaren retailers.

Buyers can choose from a selection of 10-spoke Ultra-Lightweight ‘Turbine’ wheels, 10-Spoke Super-Lightweight Forged Alloy ‘Strike’ wheels, and 5-Twin Spoke Ultra-Lightweight Forged Alloy ‘Vortex’ wheels, with different finishes depending on the wheel design: Silver, Dark Stealth, Gloss Black Diamond Cut, Gloss Black, and new gold Orum. The ‘Strike’ wheel can also be specified in a Dark Stealth finish with a McLaren Orange rim.

    METICULOUSLY CRAFTED; DRIVER FOCUSED

The McLaren 750S prioritizes the driver’s experience, blending advanced technologies and high-quality materials. Despite being hidden from view, the car’s most innovative element is the carbon fibre monocoque, which is connected to Formula 1. The monocoque, which provides immense structural rigidity and lightweight construction, enables the dihedral doors of the 750S coupe to hinge upwards and incorporate a section of the roof. The carbon fibre also allows for the design of slim A-pillars and glazed C-pillars, improving forward and over-the-shoulder visibility. Customers can choose to display parts of the carbon fibre structure in the cabin, and can even opt for a double-glazed panel to showcase the V8 engine. The Spider’s Retractable Hard Top is also constructed using carbon fibre and can be opened or closed in just 11 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h (31mph) using eight electric motors.

The 750S introduces a new suite of driver controls that is highly advanced and provides several advantages. The driver-focused instrument display is located in a binnacle that is mounted on the steering column and moves with it. The binnacle also has the controls for the Active Dynamics functions on either side, allowing the driver to select Powertrain and Handling modes without having to take their hands off the wheel.

The new steering column, which is electrically powered as standard, and the beam structure that supports the driver display are both stiffer, leading to improved Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) properties. The buttons for Launch and Aero settings are now situated next to the central touchscreen, where the Active Dynamics switches used to be in the 720S, making them easier to use. Additionally, the 750S features a new driver technology called the McLaren Control Launcher (MCL), which allows drivers to save their preferred configuration of aero, handling, powertrain, and transmission settings with a button featuring the McLaren Speedmark logo.

As with all McLaren vehicles, the steering wheel of the 750S is intentionally free of buttons or switches, enabling the driver to concentrate on the feel and feedback from the chassis and road. Information and infotainment details are accessed through the new driver display and the touch-sensitive Central Infotainment Screen (CIS), which has richer graphics and greater touch sensitivity. The Rear-View camera and Surround View system have been upgraded for improved definition and clarity, and the in-car microphone has been improved for greater voice command accuracy and clearer hands-free calling.

To make driving more convenient, the 750S has features like Apple CarPlay® which enables smartphone mirroring and use of specific apps on the Central Infotainment Screen. An optional upgraded audio system is available, which has been developed in collaboration with McLaren’s audio partner, Bowers & Wilkins. Since 2015, Bowers & Wilkins high-performance audio systems have been incorporated in every McLaren, providing exceptional sound quality and pushing the limits of speaker capability. The new audio system of the 750S includes a more powerful amplifier and the company’s exclusive Continuum® cone speakers, aimed at revealing the original recording as faithfully as possible. Moreover, the car’s lift system has been revamped, and it now lifts the front of the 750S in just four seconds (ten seconds for the 720S), with improved radio reception thanks to a new antenna. The 750S Spider has two switches located between the driver and passenger seats, which allow independent control of the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) and rear window glass.

    THE PUREST EMOTIONAL CONNECTION

The McLaren 750S earns its name by generating up to 750PS from its 4.0-litre V8 engine, surpassing the petrol-engine outputs of the legendary McLaren P1™. These impressive numbers reflect the incredible rate of progress and the astonishing levels of performance that the McLaren 750S offers its drivers. The engineering developments enhance the 720S’s daily usability, while the power and performance of the 750S remain undiminished. The car’s acceleration is exceptional, with 0-100km/h (62mph) achieved in 2.8 seconds, 0-200km/h (124mph) in 7.2 seconds, and 0-300km/h (186mph) in less than 20 seconds. However, it is not just the impressive figures that astound and excite; the visceral sensation of performance and speed is truly extraordinary. The V8 engine, mid-mounted for ideal weight distribution, handling balance and purity of response, is optimized for very high performance, with several features that reduce powertrain mass and enhance precision. The McLaren M840T engine has twin-scroll turbochargers that increase boost pressure and an additional high-flow fuel pump that tops up pressure only when necessary for optimal efficiency.

To reduce inertia mass and optimize the powertrain, the McLaren 750S uses lightweight pistons like those in a 765LT, and a bespoke engine management system that controls the increased power and torque. The electronics also allow the powertrain to run on high-octane 99 RON fuel. The transmission features a shorter final drive ratio for quicker acceleration, and a 7-speed sequential shift unit engineered for high-performance applications.

On the track, the new ‘limit downshift’ function allows for greater driver freedom when selecting gear changes while delivering an intense audible experience by allowing the engine revs to momentarily bounce on the rev-limiter before engaging the next gear. The engine mounts are also tuned to optimize the V8’s low-frequency sounds and intensify the connection felt by the driver.

The central-exit exhaust system, made of stainless steel, is 2.2kg lighter than the one in a 720S and contributes to weight reduction while delivering a new and clear exhaust tone. The exhaust sound is achieved by reducing certain order sounds and allowing others to dominate, with a greater crescendo at high engine speeds. The transmission and exhaust improvements intensify the already heightened physical and emotional connection between driver and car.

    AERODYNAMICALLY INNOVATIVE; ORGANICALLY BEAUTIFUL

McLaren puts the driver at the center of its design philosophy, and the 750S interior reflects that. The car features a canopy-like cabin with near 360-degree visibility, allowing the driver to experience the vehicle at the forefront. The windscreen is deep and broad, and the A-pillars are narrow to provide excellent sightlines over the raised front wings, helping the driver place the car precisely on the road. The car’s coupe version has transparent, glazed C-pillars made possible by the carbon fibre Monocage II, and an expansive rear screen that offers unrivaled over-the-shoulder visibility. The 750S Spider has bespoke carbon fibre architecture above the engine bay to accommodate the carbon fibre rollover protection system (ROPS) and Retractable Hard Top (RHT), providing excellent visibility on the road and track.

The car’s organic shape includes many concepts that maximize downforce, minimize drag, enhance powertrain cooling, and optimize aerodynamic balance. ‘Eye sockets’ in the nose of the car perform a double function, integrating digital LED lighting with a unique intake path for the low-temperature radiators while minimizing drag. The car’s aero ducts slice into the bodywork, functionally highlighting how cooling airflow is driven into key areas. The 750S has particularly slim LED headlights, deeply hooded following revisions to the surrounding bodywork.

The 750S has a new front splitter and bumper that helps manage airflow, with eye-socket intakes that channel the air over and around the car or down to the underfloor. The double-skinned doors and outer surface of each door blade help control the airflow and extract air from the front wheel arches to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Enlarged sill intakes and other changes to the rear of the car provide additional cooling performance to support an increase in power.

The 750S Spider has a longer front wing, shorter door, and a revised gas strut position and door hinge system to accommodate the removal of the fixed roof. The active rear wing is positioned 60mm higher for better powertrain cooling, and the venting from the rear wheel arches reduces air pressure within the wheel arches. The rear bumper has less volume and guides the expelled air upwards.

The 750S comes with Alcantara interior trim as standard, but customers have the option to choose from two other interior themes to personalize the vehicle’s character. The Performance interior mixes Alcantara with fine Nappa leather, while the TechLux option uses Nappa leather throughout. Both selections come in black colors, but customers can add a contrast stitch if desired.

For those who want more color in their interior, there are various options available, including vivid reds, oranges, rich tans, dark blue inks, porcelains, and teals. The car’s interior is also complemented by a new dark metal finish and customizable ambient lighting that highlights design details at night.

In addition to the standard exterior paint finishes, there are Elite colors available, and customers can also collaborate with McLaren Special Operations (MSO) to create a bespoke paint of their own.

    GUARANTEED PEACE OF MIND

The McLaren 750S comes with a warranty that lasts for three years from the date of purchase and doesn’t have a mileage limitation. The warranty covers visible cosmetic corrosion for five years, paint surface for three years, and perforation corrosion of the car’s body for 10 years. The 750S also includes a standard three-year maintenance plan with service intervals every 15,000 km/10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. In addition, the car is eligible for the McLaren Extended Warranty, which can be purchased in 12- or 24-month periods until the car is 15 years old from the first date of purchase.

  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class

For 75+ years, the E-Class has been the benchmark for mid-range luxury sedans. In 2023, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the new E-Class, which will lead the way in shifting from combustion engines to electric power. It will also provide a fully digital user experience, thanks to its updated electronics architecture. European sales partners will receive the first 214 series sedans in the fall of 2023.

    Exterior design

The new E-Class has classic three-box sedan proportions, with a short front overhang, long hood, and a set-back greenhouse. Its design is rounded off with a well-proportioned rear overhang.

A black panel connects the radiator grille and headlamps, reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models. The radiator grille has a 3D design and is either progressive or classic depending on the equipment line. LED headlights come standard, with DIGITAL LIGHT available as an optional extra. The daytime running lights take the shape of an eyebrow and powerdomes accentuate the hood.

The side view highlights the harmonious proportions and distinctive “cab-backward” design, with optional flush-fitting door handles and two character lines emphasizing the sporty character.

At the back, the two-section LED lights have a new contour and special design, with a star motif in both light units providing a special day and night design.

    Interior design

The interior of the E-Class offers a digital experience with its dashboard. The MBUX Superscreen extends to the central display if the optional front passenger screen is equipped. The driver’s display is visually detached and located in the driver’s field of vision. For models without a passenger display, a large trim element extends to the centre, and the central display appears to float above the concave surface of this trim element.

The light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting illuminates the front section of the instrument panel in a wide arc from the windscreen to the doors. This creates a feeling of spaciousness. The upper section of the door panels has a free-floating control array that matches the look of the glass surfaces of the screens.

The centre console is a homogeneous unit and merges straight into the lower section of the dashboard. A stowage compartment with lid and cup holders is integrated into the three-dimensionally shaped trim element at the front. The rear part of the centre console has a soft padded armrest.

The armrest and door centre panel blend seamlessly with a curved design. The front section is a metallic high-tech element that acts as a handle and has the power window switches. The seat surface and backrest have indented vertical lines that give a floating appearance.

The E-Class is known for its spaciousness. The driver has five millimetres more headroom than the previous model. The longer wheelbase provides rear passengers with extra leg and knee room, and elbow width has also increased. Luggage capacity is up to 540 litres.

The new E-Class is highly efficient thanks to systematic electrification and downsizing. Half of all models will be plug-in hybrids, with three out of six versions combining the benefits of combustion engines and electric cars. The current engine family FAME is used to produce four and six-cylinder engines, which are flexible enough for electrification. The diesel and petrol engines are both mild hybrids with turbocharging and support from an integrated starter-generator. The electric motor has been improved, with increased power and boost torque thanks to a new battery.

At the launch of the E-Class in Europe, the range includes both combustion engines and mild hybrids.

    Sound Visualisation

The new E-Class has an Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation feature that allows occupants to experience music with three senses. They can hear the music (with Dolby Atmos® technology if desired), feel it through sound resonating transducers in the optional Burmester® 4D surround sound system, and now “see” it through visualisation on the light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting (optional extra). The visualisation applies throughout the car and creates different lighting moods based on the rhythm of the music.

The front passenger has an impressive entertainment experience with an optional screen that can display dynamic content such as TV or video streaming even when the driver is looking over. The display is switchable, and the advanced camera-based privacy function reduces brightness to prevent driver distraction.

New third-party apps plus selfie and video camera

Mercedes-Benz software experts have developed a new layer of compatibility that allows third-party apps to be installed. Several popular apps are available at launch, including TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, Zoom, and Vivaldi browser. The ZYNC entertainment portal is also available as an optional extra, offering video streaming, on-demand content, interactive experiences, local video programmes, sports, news, games, and more on the central and passenger displays through a single user interface.

The MBUX Superscreen comes with a new selfie and video camera on top of the dashboard, enabling drivers to participate in online video conferences through Webex or take personal photos and videos when the vehicle is stationary.

The intelligent voice control system has been improved, allowing for activation without the keyword “Hey Mercedes” using the “Just Talk” function. The display will show a red microphone symbol, indicating that the vehicle is ready and waiting for commands.

    The routines

Mercedes-Benz is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to learn and automate the comfort functions frequently used by car occupants under similar conditions. This will result in a personalised automation called ‘routine.’ The development of this innovation is in an advanced stage. Customers buying the new E-Class can use standard templates for routines or create their own. The occupants can connect different functions and conditions to create personalized routines, such as “turn on the seat heating and adjust the ambient lighting to warm orange if the temperature inside is below twelve degrees Celsius.”

ENERGIZING COMFORT and THERMOTRONIC with Digital Vent Control (both optional)

Mercedes-Benz has a comprehensive wellness program called ENERGIZING COMFORT which includes mobilizing massage, activating light, and soothing sounds. The ENERGIZING COACH provides individual recommendations for this program. In addition, the E-Class introduces a new feature that helps alleviate travel sickness symptoms. In the future, the ENERGIZING COACH will have a bio-feedback function for stress relief with breathing exercises. With the optional THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, the Digital Vent Control enhances comfort by adjusting the front air vents to the desired ventilation scenario automatically. This feature can also be adjusted manually.

Numerous driving assistance systems, some of which have been developed further

The E-Class comes standard with various driving assistance systems, including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with reversing camera, and Speed Limit Assist. The driver can see the status and activity of the driving assistance systems as a full-screen view in the Assistance mode of the driver’s display.

ATTENTION ASSIST now has a driver distraction warning in the optional 3D driver display, which detects if the driver’s eyes are not focused on the road for several seconds and warns the driver with both sound and visual cues. If the driver continues to be distracted, there will be a second warning and a continuous warning tone, and the Active Emergency Stop Assist can initiate an emergency stop.

The optional Driving Assistance Plus package includes Active Steering Assist, which helps with lane-keeping, and allows the E-Class to automatically restart after longer standstills in city traffic or on country roads. Additionally, if Active Steering Assist is not available due to unclear lane markings, the driver will receive a warning via vibrations in the steering wheel.

Sophisticated body concept and coordinated restraint systems

Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class relies on a safety concept that uses a sturdy passenger cell and crash structures that can deform in a specific way. The restraint systems, like the airbags and seat belts, are designed to adapt to the circumstances and offer optimal protection to the occupants in case of an accident.

Apart from the standard airbags for the driver and front passenger, a knee airbag for the driver’s side is included to shield the legs from hitting the instrument panel or steering column in a severe frontal collision. The standard window airbags reduce the risk of head injuries from side window impacts or external objects. In case of a severe side collision, the window airbag on the side of the impact expands like a curtain from the A- to the C-pillar over both the front and rear side windows. If the car detects a rollover, the window airbags can deploy on both sides. Optional side airbags can cover the thorax area, including the outer rear seats, in case of a severe side impact.

Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the E-Class with a centre airbag (depending on the country), standard pyrotechnic belt tensioners and force limiters on all outer seats to ensure maximum safety in case of an accident.

    Resource-conserving materials

The E-Class uses eco-friendly materials in several components. The basic seat upholstery is a blend of recycled materials and undyed alpaca wool. The seat foam incorporates certified recycled raw materials through a “mass balance approach”. These materials have similar properties to those produced from crude oil, but help reduce the need for fossil resources while maintaining quality.

  • Polestar 4

Polestar has revealed the Polestar 4, an electric performance SUV coupé, which is the second SUV in the company’s lineup. The vehicle merges the aerodynamics of a coupé with the space of an SUV, creating a new category of SUV coupé. The design features, which were first introduced in Polestar’s concept cars, have now been included in the fastest production car to date. The Polestar 4 will sit between Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price. Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, said that the company took a new approach to SUV coupé design, prioritizing rear occupant comfort and experience, rather than merely modifying an existing SUV.

    Design

Polestar 4 is a design-focused brand, and its design follows the Polestar Precept concept car, which includes removing the rear window to provide an immersive rear occupant experience. The front lights have a unique Polestar light signature, complemented by the Polestar emblem with millimetre-precision lighting from below. The low nose, retractable door handles, flush glazing with frameless windows, rear aero blades, and air flow optimization around the rear light bar enhance aerodynamic efficiency.

The car is built on the premium Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) developed by Geely Holding. It’s a D-segment SUV coupe with a large body, long 2,999 mm wheelbase, 4,839 mm overall length, 2,139 mm width, and 1,544 mm height. The spacious interior, especially the rear seats, has reclining seats and adjustable ambient lighting inspired by the solar system, providing a personalized driving environment.

The full-length glass roof is standard, and it’s available with optional electrochromic functionality that allows for opaque or transparent execution, depending on the mood. The glass roof extends beyond the rear occupants’ heads due to the lack of a rear window, creating a unique interior ambiance. A secondary media and climate control screen is placed between the front seats to enable rear occupant control. The rear-view mirror is replaced by a high-definition screen showing a real-time feed from a roof-mounted rear camera, providing a wider field of view than most modern cars.

Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar, says that the Polestar Precept removed the rear window and pushed the rear header further back, providing an immersive rear occupant experience in their SUV coupe.

This vehicle presents a new performance, sportiness, and driving pleasure paradigm with its innovative design, maximum-efficiency aerodynamics, and new carbon frame concept.

The combined power of an entirely new combustion engine and three electric motors, along with a double-clutch gearbox, delivers an output of 1015 CV. The powertrain comprises high specific power elements, with the new 128 CV/liter combustion engine working in synergy with two front axial flux motors and a radial flux electric motor positioned above the first eight-speed double-clutch gearbox on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini.

Additionally, a lithium-ion high specific power battery pack powers the three electric motors and supports a fully-electric drive mode.

“The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions.”

The Sant’Agata Bolognese factory uses artisan craftsmanship to produce carbon fiber, which serves as the principal structural element in the new Revuelto car. Carbon fiber is used not only in the monofuselage and frame but also in all bodywork components except for the doors and bumpers. The combination of lightweight materials and powerful engine helps achieve the best weight-to-power ratio in Lamborghini’s history at 1.75 kg/CV.

Revuelto boasts top-notch performance figures in its segment, including a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in under 7 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 350 km/h. The car’s exceptional dynamism is thanks to the introduction of electric torque vectoring and four-wheel drive, which is available in fully-electric drive mode. The result is a super sports car that excels on the track and in daily driving.

“With Revuelto we take the experience of driving a Lamborghini to a superior level,” said Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer. “Revuelto takes a significant step forward in terms of reactivity and responsiveness to ensure the most emotive and natural driving in every environment. Revuelto is a car delivering the highest performance but our objective right from the start was to confirm it at the very summit of driving emotions.”

    Design

Revuelto introduces the future of Lamborghini design to the present day while remaining true to the brand’s exclusive design DNA. It presents an entirely new stylistic language that pays homage to the iconic V12 cars of the past and creates a bridge between them and the future.

The car’s external and internal design represents a significant leap forward, while still being inspired by previous V12 legends. The Countach prototype of 1971, with its perfect proportions developed on a single longitudinal line, created a pure and essential style that defined the Lamborghini V12 super sports car DNA. This car introduced the distinctively Lamborghini V12 element of vertically-opening scissor doors, which are also featured in Revuelto and add to its character.

Revuelto also draws inspiration from the inimitable proportions of the Diablo and the floating blade on the rear fender, as well as the muscularity and inclined front of the Murciélago.

“The Revuelto is adrenaline made visible,” says Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini Head of Design. “The design of the new Lamborghini Revuelto opens a fascinating door towards the future of our unique design language. From first sight, Revuelto is an intriguing next-generation Lamborghini V12, with all lines embracing the monocoque and celebrating a free view towards the V12 HPEV powertrain.

“The unique and recognizable Y-shape light signature is significant in this new era of our most iconic flagship car, and the interior is a dramatic leap forward in defining the new design direction of Lamborghini. Our philosophy of “feel like a pilot” is vivid and visible in every detail: the driver and passenger are deeply integrated in the very lightweight Y-shape design of dashboard and center console, replicating the sensations of being in a race car but with a perfect intuitive balance between digital and physical controls.”

Lamborghini introduces the Revuelto, a new vehicle that leads the way in the Space Race and adapts to challenges posed by electrification. It features a design language that hints at the shapes and proportions of future super sports cars.

The design is inspired by aerospace elements, showcasing sculpted surfaces between two lines that start from the front and embrace the cabin and engine, narrowing down to the hexagonal exhausts. The front of the car features a shark-nose section with a broad monolithic carbon-fiber hood that conveys power and speed.

The headlamp clusters with Y-shaped daytime running lights, framed by aerodynamic blades that connect the splitter to the hood, are a distinctive stylistic feature of contemporary Lamborghini design. Side fins behind the front wheel arches channel airflow along the sides, leading to the side air intakes that feature sharp edges echoing the arrows on the front.

The roof provides more headroom and specific aerodynamic functions. The recessed profile channels air to the rear wing and allows more headroom in the cabin for the driver and passenger. The rear is a tribute to the hybrid V12, with a fully-exposed longitudinal engine highlighting the mechanical heart of the Revuelto. The engine is visually connected to the double hexagonal exhausts surmounted by the geometrically profiled wing, framed by headlamp clusters with Y-shape light signatures.

Lamborghini’s driver-focused interior design is influenced by the “feel like a pilot” philosophy, which is embodied by the “Y” hallmark. The cockpit is a perfect blend of digital and physical experiences for both everyday driving and track use. The central air vents and 8.4″ vertical touchscreen are enclosed in a “space-ship” carbon-fiber profile at the visual center of the cabin. Revuelto also introduces a new immersive driving experience, allowing both pilot and co-pilot to view the same information on displays located on both sides of the car. The steering wheel is inspired by racing, with four rotors for selecting driving modes and car lifting systems. Buttons are used for turn signals and launch control, while maintaining an optimal grip on the wheel. The three digital screens offer new features that allow the driver to focus solely on driving, just like in a race car.

The Revuelto is designed to serve as both a race-inspired super sports car and a practical vehicle for daily use. During the design process, great emphasis was placed on ensuring that the cabin is spacious, functional, and well-equipped for both track-day outings and daily driving. The roof design provides more headroom than the Aventador Ultimae, while the monofuselage offers additional legroom and space behind the seats for luggage up to the size of a golf bag. There are also storage compartments located under the center dashboard and between the seats, as well as a cup holder built into the passenger-side dashboard to make life on board more comfortable. Furthermore, the compartment under the front hood can hold two cabin trolleys.

    Personalization

Revuelto provides the highest level of personalization for any Lamborghini production model, with over 400 colors available for the bodywork, as well as other customization options for creating a unique super sports car. The car is designed with sustainability in mind, including the use of water-based paints and limiting waste during the production of the upholstery materials. The cabin features visible carbon fiber and a mix of fine leathers and recycled Corsa-Tex fabric in Dinamica® microfiber, with up to 70 color options available for the customer to choose from. The customer can opt for a balance of both materials or choose one according to preference.

    Aerodinamica

On the Lamborghini Revuelto, style and function have one purpose: to enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The car’s design requirements for aerodynamic development are different than those of the Aventador. The development was based on four pillars: efficiency, synergy between components, integration between components, and design.

The active rear wing is a key element of the strategy to combine high downforce and minimized drag, ensuring the best aerodynamic performance in all driving conditions. New actuators have been developed to manage the load optimally in every situation. The wing changes position according to the driving mode and dynamics, or it can be changed manually by the driver using the dedicated rotor on the steering wheel.

The front section of the Revuelto has a carbon fiber splitter with a radial leading edge in the central part and slanted in the lateral part, generating vortices that increase frontal load and deflect the air, avoiding the wheels. The central area channels the flow to four rear vortex generators, consisting of narrow curved blades positioned in the underbody that are essential for increasing the energy of the airflow that strikes the car at the bottom. This generates additional downforce and directs the airflow toward the diffuser.

The diffuser is extreme in a V12 and performs aerodynamic functions by extracting the incoming flow from the underbody via a differentiated channeling system between the central part with low slant and the lateral part with high slant. The diffuser also performs a structural and cooling function for the engine compartment.

The new design approach increased the Revuelto’s front aerodynamic load by 33% and the rear load by 74% under maximum load conditions compared to the Aventador Ultimae.

The focus on the cooling pattern is evident in the Revuelto’s design approach. The front radiator generates hot air that must be managed correctly, so it doesn’t impact the performance of the side radiators. The front radiator outlet grille has outward-facing louvers to direct the flow of hot air away from the wheel and side radiators, while the front bumper has fins to reduce drag.

All elements of the Revuelto have been designed to optimize airflow, including the door handles, which have a Y-section wing profile to divert airflow to one of the horizontal fins located along the side, directing it towards the radiator.

The brake system’s cooling pattern integrates aerodynamics, with the front suspension deflectors and grille inside the wheel arches designed to improve front brake cooling and reduce resistance inside the wheel well, increasing front load.

At the rear, two NACA ducts in front of the rear wheels collect flow from the underbody and direct it to the rear brake cooling duct.

The carbon fiber roof improves interior roominess and plays an important aerodynamic role with a wing profile design that directs air to the rear air intakes and inverter and electric motor on the gearbox.

    Monofusolage

Lamborghini’s Revuelto utilizes a new aeronautics-inspired chassis called the ‘monofuselage’. This monocoque is made entirely of multi-technology carbon fiber and features a front structure in Forged Composites, which is a special material made of short carbon fibers soaked in resin. This results in a lighter and more torsionally stiff structure than the Aventador, with 25% more torsional stiffness and a 10% reduction in weight.

The monofuselage is designed for maximum integration between components, optimizing the use of Forged Composites technology and a monolithic rocker ring made of CFRP. This rocker ring encloses and connects the Forged Composite elements of the car.

The Revuelto is also the first super sports car to have a 100% carbon fiber front structure, with the front cone structures also made of carbon fiber for improved energy absorption and weight reduction.

While autoclave composite production was used for the roof construction, the Revuelto’s unique single-element ring-shaped component made of CFRP forms the supporting structure of the car. This manufacturing decision also allows for maximum customization of the roof.

The rear chassis of the Revuelto is made of strong aluminum alloys and incorporates two important hollow castings in the rear dome area. These castings combine the shock towers of the rear suspension and powertrain suspension into a single component with a closed inertia profile. This results in a significant reduction in weight, increased rigidity, and fewer welding lines.

The Revuelto represents a new approach to car production using carbon fiber called AIM (Automation, Integration, Modularity). ‘Automation’ involves introducing automated and digitalized processes while still maintaining traditional Lamborghini manufacturing methods. ‘Integration’ involves combining several functions into a single component using compression molding to ensure optimal integration between components and high torsional stiffness. ‘Modularity’ refers to making the applied technologies modular and flexible to meet all product requirements and characteristics.

    Powertrain and Layout

The Revuelto has a unique design and powertrain, featuring a mid-mounted naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine and three electric motors. One electric motor is integrated into the new double-clutch eight-speed gearbox, which is placed behind the combustion engine for the first time. The transmission tunnel, which used to house the gearbox, now contains a lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motors. The electric motors enhance power delivery at low revs and allow the Revuelto to function as a purely electric car, reducing CO2 emissions by 30% compared to the Aventador Ultimae.

    A unique architecture

Since its inception, Lamborghini has been synonymous with V12 engines, and the first car to boast this engine was the iconic 350GT launched in 1963. Lamborghini first paired an electric motor with a 12-cylinder internal combustion engine in 2019 with the Sián, which had a 25 kW electric engine that supported the previous generation of V12, storing electrical energy in a supercapacitor.

The Revuelto, on the other hand, introduces an unprecedented hybrid architecture and a new generation of V12. It is launched as the very first High Performance Electrified Vehicle – HPEV: a plug-in hybrid super sports car equipped with a lightweight high-power lithium ion battery, which is placed in the transmission tunnel in the central section of the chassis. This innovative solution is designed to reduce emissions compared to the previous V12, while maximizing performance.

The Revuelto features a super powerful and lightweight V12 engine, known as the L545, with a capacity of 6.5 liters. It is the lightest and most powerful 12-cylinder engine ever produced by Lamborghini, weighing only 218 kilograms – 17 kilograms lighter than the Aventador. The engine is rotated 180 degrees compared to the Aventador layout, and it produces 825 CV at 9250 revs per minute thanks to the redesigned distribution system that supports a maximum rev range of 9500 rpm. This V12 engine has a specific power output of 128 CV per liter, which is the highest output in the history of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder engines. The maximum torque produced is 725 Nm at 6750 rpm.

Lamborghini has redesigned the air intake ducts to increase air supply and ensure optimal airflow in the combustion chamber. The new engine’s combustion has been optimized by regulating ionization in the chamber with two control units, which is already being used in the Aventador and now transferred to the new model. Additionally, the new combustion system has an increased compression ratio (12.6:1 compared to 11.8:1 for the Aventador Ultimae). The exhaust fluid dynamics have been improved to reduce counter-pressure at high revs, boosting the specific power output.

Lamborghini cars are well-known for their emotional and distinct sound. The new L545 engine has received particular attention to enhance its “soundtrack,” which starts with a melodious tone at low revs and gradually rises to a harmonious crescendo.

    Electric four-wheel drive

The Revuelto keeps the tradition of four-wheel drive of Lamborghini. Besides the internal combustion engine powering the rear wheels, two electric motors appear for the first time on the front axle, each providing traction to one of the front wheels. There’s also a third electric motor above the eight-speed double-clutch gearbox, which supplies power to the rear wheels when required or according to the driving mode.

The total torque produced by the combustion engine and the three electric motors is unique, reaching 725 Nm from the internal combustion engine and 350 Nm from each of the front electric motors. The power unit delivers a maximum combined output of 1015 CV.

The front electric motors are axial flux units, oil-cooled, and weigh only 18.5 kilograms each, providing power to the front wheels and also enhancing driving dynamics by vectoring torque while recovering energy under braking. The Revuelto works in front-wheel drive mode when using electric power only, optimizing energy consumption, and engaging rear-wheel drive on demand.

The central tunnel of the Lamborghini Revuelto houses a lithium-ion battery pack with a high specific power of 4500 W/kg. This placement ensures optimal weight distribution and a low center of gravity. The battery, protected by a lower structural layer, is connected to the front and rear electric motors, as well as an integrated recharging unit.

Measuring 1550mm in length, 301mm in height, and 240mm in width, the battery contains pouch cells with a total capacity of 3.8 kWh. It can be recharged using regular domestic alternating and charging column current up to 7 kW in power, and takes only 30 minutes to fully recharge when it reaches zero charge. Additionally, it can be recharged under regenerative braking from the front wheels or directly from the V12 engine in only six minutes.

    Getting into gear

Lamborghini made innovative technical decisions involving the gearbox in the Revuelto, which is the nerve center of the hybrid plug-in unit, due to the adoption of a new platform. They developed a new compact transmission unit that can meet the needs of a potent electric power unit, and it will be used in the next generation of super sports cars. The gearbox incorporates a wet double clutch as the most efficient and performance-oriented solution to manage the Revuelto’s 725 Nm of torque at 6750 rpm from its internal combustion engine.

The new eight-speed gearbox is positioned transversally behind the longitudinal V12 engine, creating space in the tunnel for the lithium-ion battery that feeds the electric motors. This technical solution is unique in the high-performance car world and puts Lamborghini at the forefront of automotive engineering. It also helps to keep the car’s wheelbase contained and ensures effective weight distribution for optimal driving dynamics.

Only two other V12 Lamborghini cars have had a transverse rear gearbox, the Miura and the Essenza SCV12. The new gearbox has two shafts, one for even-numbered gears and the other for odd, saving weight and space. The eight-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) was developed for sporty driving, with an eighth ratio added for fuel efficiency. ‘Continuous downshifting’ allows for multiple gears to drop down during braking with a single paddle press. The transverse layout creates more cabin space and the DCT is lighter and faster than the one in the Huracán range. The compact DCT weighs just 193 kg and includes a new component for the car’s hybrid architecture: the rear electric motor with maximum power of 110kW and peak torque of 150Nm.

The electric motor sits above the gearbox and serves multiple purposes, acting as the starter motor and generator while also providing energy to the front electric motors through the transmission tunnel battery. The electric motor can also provide power to the rear wheels, enabling electric four-wheel drive, depending on the selected driving mode.

An uncoupling mechanism with a dedicated synchronizer allows the connection to the double-clutch gearbox, determining how the system functions. In the P3 position, the electric motor is separated from the gearbox and can provide additional power to the V12 engine. In the P2 position, it can recharge the battery at low speeds and when parked, as well as serving as a starter motor.

By selecting the appropriate driving mode, the Revuelto can become an electric four-wheel drive car, continuing Lamborghini’s four-wheel drive tradition. The two front electric motors provide reverse gear, but the rear electric motor can also activate the rear axle and wheels for extra momentum, allowing the Revuelto to drive all four wheels in electric mode, even when reversing in low-grip conditions.

    Absolute driving experience

The Revuelto was created to offer drivers unparalleled control and excitement in all driving conditions, with a focus on a high level of confidence and connection with the car.

Revuelto is designed with an innovative layout, featuring a mid-mounted 6.5-liter V12 engine, three electric motors, and a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that is arranged transversely to the V12 behind the combustion engine. The car’s lithium-ion battery is located in the tunnel, which traditionally houses the gearbox, and drives the electric motors.

This unique architecture provides the Revuelto with optimal weight distribution, allowing for a balance that makes it extremely agile and effective on the road and the circuit. The car’s capabilities are enhanced by various features such as the four-wheel steering system, increased stiffness of the anti-roll bars, and reduced steering ratio.

The Revuelto offers 13 different driving modes, including electric 4WD, thanks to the new hybrid powertrain that maximizes electric motor support. The car’s aerodynamic design and chassis also contribute to its top-of-the-line performance, making it a leader in its category.

Lamborghini’s Dinamica Veicolo 2.0 system is introduced with the Revuelto, along with electric torque vectoring that optimally distributes torque to each wheel for better agility and stability during cornering, working alongside the four-wheel steering system. The new torque vectoring system intervenes on brakes only when necessary, to improve efficiency and performance. Additionally, the e-axle and rear electric motor help in deceleration, reducing brake stress and recharging the battery. The Revuelto’s monofuselage is an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber structure that provides increased torsional stiffness, making it stable and contributing to its compact and responsive feel.

The Revuelto’s active aerodynamics significantly increase efficiency and downforce, achieving a +61% and +66% improvement, respectively, in high-load situations compared to the Aventador Ultimae. This is due to the front splitter and roof design that directs air to the high-efficiency rear wing. The aerodynamics work together with the semi-active wishbone suspension, which is controlled by the Lamborghini Vertical Control system designed specifically for the Revuelto. The system manages sudden load transfers during track driving, adapting the suspension and rear wing behavior in real-time.

The car’s braking system and brake cooling system have been revamped to handle the most demanding performance situations. The latest CCB Plus (Carbon Ceramic Brakes Plus) technology is used. The front calipers now have ten pistons instead of six, and are paired with larger 410x38mm discs, while the rear calipers have 4 pistons and 390x32mm discs. The discs are coated with a friction layer to improve performance, thermal management, and reduce noise during braking.

The aerodynamics of the car are designed to enhance the system’s efficiency. The front suspension strips and wheel arch grille improve front brake cooling by channeling air from the front diffuser to the brake. They also reduce resistance inside the wheel well, increasing the front load and limiting compression phenomena. The two NACA ducts in front of the rear wheels collect underbody flow and direct it to the rear brake cooling duct.

The Revuelto has three new driving modes that work with the existing City, Road, Sport, and Race modes for a total of 13 dynamic settings. The City mode is designed for everyday driving in urban areas with zero emissions. The V12 can recharge the battery in a few minutes if necessary, making it possible to drive in electric mode and access historic city centers with emission restrictions. The suspension system, traction control, and gearbox provide maximum comfort, while reduced aerodynamic drag makes City mode the most fuel-efficient with a maximum power of 180 hp.

Strada mode is perfect for everyday and long trips, with a combination of comfort and sportiness and up to 886 CV power. The V12 engine is always on and recharges the battery in Recharge mode. Active aerodynamics enhance stability at high speeds.

Sport mode offers an exciting driving experience with responsive orientation in Recharge, Hybrid and Performance modes. The hybrid system and combustion engine deliver up to 907 CV power, with a responsive gearbox, agile suspension and aerodynamics for cornering pleasure.

Corsa mode is designed for the track, with the highest level of performance and sound. In Performance mode, the car delivers up to 1015 CV power with control of the hybrid system to optimize torque vectoring and all-wheel drive. Corsa Recharge mode prioritizes battery recharge. Expert drivers can disable ESC and use “launch control” for a full-powered start.

    Tyres

Bridgestone has partnered with Lamborghini to develop bespoke Potenza Sport tyres for the Revuelto, which enhance the car’s sporty and high-speed capabilities. The Potenza Sport tyres are available in two different mixed fitments, as well as run-flat and tubeless versions. They provide excellent grip and steering precision on dry and wet surfaces, and run-flat technology ensures drivers can continue driving safely even after a puncture. Bespoke Bridgestone Potenza Race tyres are also available for track use, while Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 tyres are an option for winter driving. These tyres were designed using Bridgestone’s innovative Virtual Tyre Development technology, which reduces raw materials and emissions during development.

    HMI, Infotainment, Connectivity and ADAS

The Revuelto features a new Human Machine Interface (HMI) system with three displays: a 12.3′ instrument cluster, 8.4′ central display, and a 9.1′ display. The system has a modern design, with 3D graphics, animations, widgets and styling, and is managed by one technological ‘brain’ to ensure a consistent user interface and interaction across all displays.

The new Revuelto infotainment system offers customization functions for a personalized Lamborghini experience. Using a two-finger swipe, owners can move infotainment content to the instrument cluster or passenger display, and memorize favorite features for easy access.

The new steering wheel design is inspired by Squadra Corse race cars and includes added controls for easy access to vehicle dynamics and multimedia commands. Passengers can also enjoy dynamic driving information on the dedicated display.

The navigation system is redesigned and developed with real-time maps, route calculation, and search mechanism for faster and updated information. It also includes real-time traffic, weather, and point-of-interest information such as parking, petrol stations, and charging points with prices and usage details.

Amazon Alexa enables voice commands for vehicle control functions like climate, navigation, and media, alongside standard Alexa functions for entertainment and smart home devices. The new powertrain fully embraces the Sports Technologies moniker alongside existing performance-enhancing features from the optimised chassis of the 1.5-litre EcoBoost Puma ST – launched in 2020 – including bespoke twist-beam and anti-roll bar settings, and patented force vectoring springs.

Coupled with the compact SUV’s comfort, uncompromised interior space and innovative practical solutions including the Ford MegaBox, the versatile new Puma ST Powershift brings Ford Performance driving experiences within reach for even greater numbers of enthusiasts – delivering responsive 7.4-second 0-62 mph acceleration alongside 44.8 mpg fuel efficiency and 144 g/km CO2.

“The Ford Performance team called on all of its experience developing the original Puma ST to deliver ST signature fun-to-drive without losing the practicality of our compact SUV, and our new Powershift derivative is even more versatile. We’re using 48-volt mild hybrid technology not just to improve efficiency but also to enhance peak power and torque,” said Stefan Muenzinger, Ford Performance manager, Europe. “The multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is combined with a paddle-shift-operable, seven-speed, dual-clutch Ford Powershift transmission – fusing an energised driving experience and everyday usability.”

True ST Performance, mild hybrid efficiency

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid 48-volt mild hybrid technology offered to Puma customers since the SUV’s launch in 2019 is enhanced to deliver even greater performance for Puma ST Powershift.

The mild hybrid system engages energy recovery more quickly than in other applications for faster recharging of the 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. This enables the belt-driven integrated starter/generator (BISG) to offer a longer boost period of torque supplementation for enhanced performance at lower engine rpm. In addition, the increased energy recuperation allows a further 10 PS of electric assist from the BISG to boost peak power.

Combined with unique software tuning for the turbocharged, direct injected, three-cylinder petrol engine, the result is an almost 10 per cent increase in peak power compared with the 155 PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engine. Delivering up to 170 PS at 5,750 rpm and up to 248 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, the Puma ST Powershift produces exactly twice the power-per-litre of a 2002 Focus ST170.

Puma ST Powershift benefits from the same active exhaust valve technology as Puma ST for increased performance and a distinctive ST engine note under acceleration. Controlled by the selectable Drive Modes, the active exhaust valve remains closed in Normal and Eco modes for everyday refinement, but opens in Sport mode to intensify the sporty sound.

“The combination of a downsized engine and electrified technology helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions while providing accessible, everyday performance. Together with the recalibrated Powershift transmission, this package delivers smart performance and emotional ST fun-to-drive,” Muenzinger said.

Powershift to give the driver control

Developed to work seamlessly with Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engines, the seven-speed Ford Powershift transmission is optimised with revised software strategies that can maximise performance and efficiency for Puma ST Powershift customers.

In fully automatic mode, the dual-clutch gearbox provides smooth-shifting, effortless convenience and comfort – particularly stop-start traffic – and helps to keep the mild hybrid powertrain at the optimum rpm for efficiency. However, for truly exploiting the engine’s performance, triple downshifts enable faster overtaking when drivers request maximum acceleration. With Sport Drive Mode engaged, the transmission also holds lower gears for longer, for sportier responses. In addition, steering wheel paddle shifters allow manual control of shift points for full driver engagement.

The Powershift automatic also enables Stop & Go functionality for the available Adaptive Cruise Control, which can bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than three seconds, or resume after three seconds with the touch of a button or the accelerator. The transmission also enables a Remote Start function via the FordPass app.

    High specification ST chassis

A Puma ST Powershift chassis shared with the award-winning Puma ST sharpens responses using a rear suspension twist-beam rated at 2,000 Nm/deg torsional stiffness – an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the standard Puma – with a 28 mm anti-roll bar integrated into the U‑section and a 24 mm front anti-roll bar.

Ford’s patented force vectoring springs also improve the Puma ST Powershift’s stability, agility and responsiveness. The non-uniform, non-interchangeable, directionally-wound springs apply vectoring forces to the rear suspension and enable cornering forces to travel directly into the spring, for increased lateral stiffness.

This advanced spring technology is combined with Hitachi twin-tube frequency-reactive dampers at the front and rear, delivering the stiffness needed for enhanced body control alongside the compliance to isolate smaller road imperfections for high-speed refinement.

An 11.4:1 steering ratio – almost 25 per cent faster than the standard Puma – uses a combination of ST-specification front knuckles, steering arm and steering rack gearing, for heightened response during turn-in compared to the standard Puma, further supported by Torque Vectoring Control.

Enhanced braking performance is provided by 325 mm front discs – 17 per cent larger in diameter than the standard Puma specification. Puma ST Powershift’s brake booster is tuned for modulation, feel and feedback that supports performance driving, and the powertrain’s optimised energy recuperation also supports increased engine braking.

Design that combines form and function

A Ford Performance-embossed splitter integrated into the front bumper not only makes the Puma ST Powershift’s sports credentials immediately clear, but also increases front end downforce by almost 80 per cent versus the standard Puma. A large rear roof spoiler and distinctive rear diffuser also feature, while signature ST upper and lower front grilles are designed to maximise engine cooling capability and efficiency.

Puma ST Powershift introduces a new ST-exclusive Azura Blue signature colour among six exterior paint options. Complemented by an available gloss black finish for the roof and standard black grille surrounds, side spears, door mirror caps and rear roof spoiler, the SUV also offers a Magnetite finish on the standard 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, standard highlights include Ford Performance-developed sports seats finished in premium Sensico synthetic leather-effect material, a wireless charging pad, Quickclear heated windscreen, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, FordPass Connect modem, and Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™. Available driver assistance technologies include Pre-Collision Assist with Active Braking, Active Park Assist, Cross Traffic Alert with Active Braking, and Intelligent Speed Limiter.

Underlining the Ford Performance model’s versatility, Puma ST Powershift retains full Puma space and practicality, offering 456 litres of loadspace with the rear seats in place as well as the innovative Ford MegaBox that provides an 80-litre storage space beneath the boot floor – capable of comfortably accommodating two golf bags in an upright position.

“And, of course, the new Puma ST Powershift also delivers on the award-winning dynamic ability that our customers love,” Muenzinger said.
