  • Citroen turns heads at Milano design city with ‘time to be my Ami’

    Citroen AMI1

Citroën is taking part in Milano Design City, an event dedicated to the culture of design and innovation, with a specific focus on the reconfiguration of urban spaces, sustainability and the circular economy. This globally recognised event represents a strong appeal for the whole design industry.

AMI – 100% ëlectric is a practical response to the new mobility expectations. It rewrites the rulebook with its compact size, its unique design and its novel graphic approach all culminating in a very relevant mobility solution.

VENUE DESIGNED WITH CITROËN STYLE DEPARTMENT
‘TIME TO BE MY AMI’ has been designed in collaboration with the Paris based Citroën Style Department as an immersive journey into the AMI – 100% ëlectric world. In fact, by following the red thread of the lifestyle products inspired by AMI – 100% ëlectric, the audience is invited to discover the striking features of this revolutionary urban mobility object, offering innovation, accessibility and ease of use.

The venue displays various products from the Lifestyle AMI collection in XXL dimensions, to create a playful theme that emphasises the ultra-compact and non-conformist character of AMI in the mobility landscape.

Simultaneously, modern and colourful AMI posters decorate the outside of the building to emphasise its urban, innovative and non-conformist character.

On arrival, visitors are greeted by the three AMIs situated in front of the building’s entrance including two of the iconic ‘Parisian Inspired’ AMI from the Free2Move car sharing fleet in Paris:

    1. My AMI Orange
    2. AMI with a covering representing the iconic Parisian district Pigalle*
    3. AMI with a covering that represents the iconic Saint Germain des Prés district*

*The designs were inspired by Parisians as part of the launch of AMI in-car sharing in the French capital, “AMI ❤️ Paris”. An identical project is coming soon in Milan as “AMI also ❤️ Milano”.

As a brand synonymous with producing model versions of all of its road going vehicles, visitors can see a life-size Citroën AMI – 100% ëlectric which is placed inside an XXL ‘miniature’ box, emphasising the compact dimensions of AMI – 100% electric.

Placed to the side, near the walls, is an XXL AMI MUG in bright orange.

Covering the whole wall and hanging like an ‘unfolded sculpture’, is the cardboard that replicates the outline of the AMI – 100% ëlectric accessory box. This too in an over-size version and showcases the AMI blueprint (technical drawings of the various AMI – 100% ëlectric perspectives). Also reproduced on a large scale is the 2D cardboard packaging of the accessories that customers can use to personalise their own AMI. The staging illustrates the customisation kit that can be ordered online, delivered to the home and easily installed by the customer’s themselves on the AMI, as ‘Do It Yourself’.  The accessories include functional and decorative elements, both for the outside and inside of AMI – a central separation net, two stickers for the rear quarter windows, decorative wheel trims, door nets, door stickers, floor mats and a smartphone support.

In the vicinity, an Ultimate Ears speaker in AMI colours is replicated in XXL format. It is inspired by the AMI Bluetooth speaker accessory, a portable and lightweight Ultimate Ears Boom 3 AMI. Sturdy and water resistant, it has a battery range of 15 hours. It can be used indoors or onboard the AMI – 100% ëlectric, where it sits in a specific holder on the dashboard.

Visitors will discover an enormous domestic 220 V plug to highlight how AMI can be charged in three hours on a standard socket. The plug is connected to the cable, creating a path that morphs into a cosy sofa for relaxation, to underline the typical Citroën comfort and show how it is easy to order AMI from the comfort of your sofa (for selected markets). This concept is designed to showcase how easy it is to recharge AMI – 100% ëlectric anywhere, even using a simple household socket. The wire sofa has a diameter of approximately 55cm and is 15 metres in length; with foam padding to provide the typical comfort of a couch and an outer lining in elasticated technical textile, which is a nod to the external appearance of the AMI – 100% electric recharging cable.

The ‘TIME TO BE MY AMI’ CAFÉ, has been set-up in the colours of the vehicle. The counter has been designed so that three recharging stations are available for visitors to charge their smartphones.

An AMI pop-up allows visitors to get up close with the mobility object and sit inside it. This pop-up is designed for a retail sales experience and offers the chance to discover the different colours that make up the accessory kits.

Finally, visitors conclude their tour by passing through the AMI boutique which displays all the lifestyle products inspired by AMI – 100% ëlectric. Finished in vibrant colours AMI lifestyle products include the Bluetooth speaker accessory, mug, clothing and footwear as well as a 1/43 scale model of the iconic AMI itself.

  • Scotland’s thin blue line begins to go green

    Hyundai Kona Electric1

Hyundai Motor UK today announces the award of an initial contract to supply circa 180 Kona Electric 64kWh vehicles to Police Scotland. The agreement supports Police Scotland’s ambition to establish the first blue light, ultra-low emission vehicle fleet in the UK while making a significant contribution towards the Scottish Government’s legally binding target to cut greenhouse gases to net-zero by 2045.

The deal currently represents Hyundai’s largest pure electric vehicle fleet order to date and follows on from numerous similar procurements from fleet customers in recent months, with Hyundai securing well over 200 new fleet policy agreements from the start of lockdown in March through until the end of August. Thanks to Hyundai’s ability to quickly meet customer demand for all-electric vehicles within weeks of ordering, delivery of the first Kona Electric vehicles to Police Scotland will begin in this month with the full order due to be fulfilled by March 2021.

Forming part of Hyundai’s expanding line-up of class-leading electrified vehicles, the Kona Electric is already a multi-award-winner. In 2019, it received a coveted Which? Best Buy and was also hailed “Best Small Family Car” in the inaugural Top Gear Electric Awards in April this year.

The Hyundai Kona Electric was chosen by Police Scotland for its usable range of up to 300 miles, its technology, practicality and its immediate availability.

The Kona Electrics join a range of other electric vehicles already operating as part of the Police Scotland fleet. Enabling officers and staff to fulfil their duties with a minimal carbon footprint, while also reducing fuel and maintenance costs, the Kona Electric fleet will serve as a testbed to give Police Scotland greater experience of operating an increasing number of zero-emission vehicles.

Deputy Chief Constable Will Kerr said: “Police Scotland’s Fleet Strategy is highly ambitious, with the aim of having the UK’s first ultra-low emission blue light fleet by 2030. This substantial contract marks a major step towards that goal by making ULEVs accessible to more of our officers and staff.

“Achieving our Fleet Strategy aims will significantly reduce carbon emissions, while also reducing maintenance and servicing costs. It’s one of many strides the organisation is taking to achieve a sustainable, flexible service which meets the needs of our fellow citizens while also providing a modern, fit-for-purpose fleet for our people to use in the course of their work.

“The gradual transition of our unmarked fleet from our current internal combustion engine vehicles to ULEVs will also assist with improving the existing fleet, as the age and mileage thresholds for replacing existing vehicles is being reduced. This means officers will have use of more modern vehicles while reducing maintenance and repair costs, at the same time as increasing the resilience of our contingency fleet.”

Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK said:  “We are delighted to be able to support Police Scotland in their determination to transform to an ultra-low emission fleet with the immediate supply of a number of Kona Electric vehicles. Police Scotland’s approach to cutting greenhouse gases by switching to more sustainable means of transport mirrors our goal to become one of the leading providers of electric vehicles in the UK. Demand for our pioneering electric vehicles for fleets has been exceptionally high in recent months and looks set to continue as we move towards a zero-emission future.”

  • THE NEW BMW 128ti

    2021 BMW 128ti1

After an absence of over a decade, BMW’s legendary ‘ti’ model designation returns with the BMW 128ti. Designed to deliver exceptional driving enjoyment, with M Sport specification as standard, the new BMW 128ti is an authentic ‘Turismo Internazionale’.

The exclusively front-wheel-drive model fulfils its sporting promise with such features as the Torsen limited-slip differential, specially tuned M Sport suspension, optimised eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and a 2.0-litre, 265hp engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

With an advanced drivetrain that includes the anti-roll bars and brakes of the flagship BMW M135i xDrive, it also features a sporty exterior and driver-focused interior that boasts exclusive details to distinguish it from other BMW 1 Series variants. It is also circa 80kg lighter than the BMW M135i xDrive.

The new BMW 128ti is due for launch in November 2020 and will be priced from £32,995 OTR.

    M Sport specification as standard
The new BMW 128ti is based on the M Sport model specification available for the BMW 1 Series, which includes distinctive front and rear aprons.

The BMW 128ti adds specific additional trim, such as the outer air intakes carried over from the front apron of the flagship BMW M135i xDrive and the trim for the Air Curtains, in red. The side sills containing the ‘ti’ badge are also red on cars finished in Storm Bay metallic, Mineral Grey metallic, Sapphire Black metallic or Alpine White paintwork. If the BMW 128ti is ordered in Melbourne Red metallic or Misano Blue metallic, the accents and “ti” badge on the sill (which can all be deleted, if desired) come in black and the sill reverts to body colour.

    Exclusive exterior features
The BMW 128ti has extended Shadowline trim with a black BMW kidney grille and dual 90mm diameter black chrome tailpipe finishers as standard. An even darker front-end appearance can be achieved with the optional BMW Individual lights Shadowline, which are largely devoid of chrome. The window surrounds feature BMW Individual High-gloss Black Shadowline trim and the ‘128ti’ badge on the tailgate is in chrome. The 18-inch Y‑spoke 553 M bi-colour light-alloy wheels are exclusive to the BMW 128ti.

The interior of the BMW 128ti features high-class materials, with red accents throughout creating a bold contrast to the black headlining. A large ‘Race Red’ surface adorns the front centre sections of the standard Sensatec/cloth sport seats. A red ‘ti’ is stitched into the centre armrest which – like the door armrests, the door panels, the instrument panel and floor mat edging – also features red contrast stitching. The steering wheel rim and airbag cover of the standard M Sport steering wheel also feature red stitching. Standard equipment also includes the M door sill strips on the front door openings, and M seat belts. Boston backlit trim strips are standard whilst the Berlin trim is available as an alternative.

Perforated Dakota leather and M Sport seats available as options
The M Sport seats are optionally available in perforated Dakota leather – in Black or in Magma Red with grey accents. If the latter is chosen, the contrast stitching and ‘ti’ badge are in grey and the floor mats have stitching in the BMW M colours.

The infotainment features of BMW Operating System 7.0 are accessed via a display screen of up to 10.25 inches with the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional. Gesture control is also available and a 9.2‑inch BMW Head-Up Display can be specified as options. The load compartment has a capacity of 380 litres, rising to 1,200 litres with the rear seat folded. Electric tailgate operation is also optionally available. Folding Mirrors, Heated Seats and cabin Ambient Lighting are also included as standard.

    Bespoke, lowered M Sport suspension
The new BMW 128ti is available exclusively with specially tuned, bespoke M Sport suspension. It has the firmer anti-roll bars and anti-roll bar mounts from the range‑topping BMW M135i xDrive, plus stiffer modified springs and shock absorbers – it’s also10mm lower. This, combined with a model-specific steering setup that has been designed to further minimise torque steer, results is even sharper driving dynamics. A weight saving of around 80kg over the all-wheel-drive BMW M135i xDrive contributes to the sporting performance of the BMW 128ti.

Torsen limited-slip differential for improved traction
The BMW 128ti is equipped with the same Torsen limited-slip differential as the BMW M135i xDrive. As well as increasing traction, agility and stability, the limited-slip differential also gives the car excellent cornering ability.

If the inside wheel loses grip while powering through a bend and the driver accelerates at the same time, the limited-slip differential directs more torque to the wheel with greater grip, thereby preventing wheel slip and enhancing traction and agility.

BMW Performance Control and ARB technology
The mechanical limited-slip differential is assisted by several electronic control systems. One system that has been specially modified for the BMW 128ti is BMW Performance Control, whose ‘sharper’ yaw moment distribution boosts rear axle agility. ARB (near-actuator wheel slip limitation) technology is also utilised, as it is on all models in the BMW 1 Series range. This newly developed traction control system, that made its combustion-engine debut on the 1 Series, features a slip controller positioned directly in the engine control unit rather than in the control unit for the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system, enabling ARB to work ten times faster. As a result, not only is operation smoother and more sensitive, the system can also make maximum use of the potential traction offered by different road surfaces. The ARB technology works with DSC to significantly reduce the power understeer that can affect front-wheel-drive cars.

Standard M Sport brakes and sport tyres
As in the BMW M135i xDrive, the BMW 128ti is fitted with M Sport brakes, which provide increased fade resistance and exceptional feel. The front callipers bear the M logo and are painted red (a first for a BMW 1 Series model). The front brakes consist of aluminium four‑piston monoblock fixed callipers and 360mm x 30mm inner-vented discs, while floating callipers with inner-vented brake discs measuring 300mm x 20mm are at the rear.

The 18-inch Y-spoke 553 M bi-colour light-alloy wheels exclusively fitted on the BMW 128ti can be specified with sport tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 4) in 225/40 R18 format as a no-cost option.

    The 19-inch double-spoke 552 M light-alloy wheel with 235/35 R19 tyres is also optionally available.

265hp, 2.0-litre engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology
The engine in the BMW 128ti is a direct offshoot of the BMW Group’s most powerful four-cylinder unit. The 2.0-litre engine was modified with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and produces 265hp from 4,750-6,500rpm. Peak torque of 400Nm is available from 1,750-4,500rpm. The BMW 128ti can sprint from 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155mph. Despite this strong performance, the 128ti returns combined fuel consumption of 44.1 – 46.3mpg* and emits only 148-139g/km of CO2*. This enables it to meet the Euro 6d exhaust standard. The standard Active Sound Design (ASD) ensures the driver can enjoy a distinctive engine sound in the cabin without any increase in external noise.

Model Max Power (hp) Peak Torque (Nm) Acceleration

Rapid gear changes with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission
Like the range-topping BMW M135i xDrive, the BMW 128ti is fitted as standard with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Fast automatic gear changes ensure the highest possible gear is always engaged. Shift paddles on the steering wheel also allow the driver to change gear manually at any point.

Lightweight M Performance Parts enhance aerodynamics and exterior stylingCustomers can personalise the new BMW 128ti with accessories from the exclusive M Performance Parts range, which has been developed with the expertise of BMW M GmbH .

Various lightweight parts in new carbon-fibre look and High-gloss Black components further enhance the sporting appearance of the BMW 128ti. The M Performance front splitter, the rear diffuser and the roof-edge spoiler with air through-flow and the aero flics in High-gloss Black optimise aerodynamics. These M Performance Parts have been developed specifically for the BMW 1 Series and adapted in the wind tunnel to work together perfectly. The hand-made, high-quality carbon-fibre components that also include M Performance exterior mirror caps are sealed with clear coat and given a high-gloss polished finish. 18-inch forged wheel Y-Spoke 711 M in Ferric Grey and the 19-inch M Performance bi‑colour light-alloy wheel Double-spoke 555 M with polished finish are optionally available.

The M Performance steering wheel, complete with Alcantara covering, large thumb rests, red marking in the 12 o’clock position and silver-grey hand cross-stitching adds to the race car feel of the BMW 128ti interior. For even more sportiness, there is the M Performance Steering wheel cover in carbon fibre/Alcantara or carbon fibre/leather with M Performance lettering, plus M Performance Shift paddles in carbon fibre to operate the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.

  • New Citroen C3 Puretech range cuts CO2 emissions even further

    www.matthowell.co.uk 07740 583906

Committed to the continuous improvement of its vehicles, in particular, to reduce their environmental impact, Citroën is pleased to announce reductions of between 3 and 7g/km of CO2 across the New C3 PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engine range.

Available on New Citroën C3 from October 2020 production, the developments comprise new batteries on versions equipped with a manual gearbox, with the entry-level PureTech 83 Stop and Start manual also receiving a new alternator to further optimize efficiency. In addition to this, all New C3 PureTech petrol models will also benefit from a fuel consumption meter as standard fitment ahead of the January 2021 regulations that see their installation become mandatory.

Pricing remains unchanged despite the increased efficiency of New C3. For company car drivers, the lower CO2 emissions result in BIK tax band reductions of up to 2% – as an example, this reduces the monthly tax bill of a 40% taxpayer by over £140 in the 2021-22 period (when driving a Flair Plus PureTech 83 S&S manual).

In addition to this, New C3 continues to offer the same RDE2-compliant BlueHDi Diesel engines as it did when it opened for orders in June 2020, therefore avoiding the 4% non-compliance BIK surcharge.

New Citroën C3 is on sale now in the UK, with prices starting from just £16,280.00 MRRP OTR. Always supremely comfortable, New Citroën C3 is now the brand’s most customisable hatchback, with up to 97 different exterior colour combinations.

Available in three trim levels, ‘Feel’, ‘Flair’ and ‘Flair Plus’, New C3 comes with a wealth of standard equipment, including Airbump® door panels, EcoLED headlights, 3D rear lights, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto, automatic air conditioning, cruise control and speed limiter, lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and recommendation, and Coffee Break Alert.

New C3 buyers can also equip their vehicles with Citroën’s Advanced Comfort seats, which are available as standard on all Flair Plus models. These generously proportioned seats – which are designed to feel similar to an armchair – provide enhanced comfort, both visually, and in terms of posture and lumbar support (adjustable on the driver’s side). Special foam on the surface of each seat is coupled with thick fabric for unrivalled softness. As soon as you sit in New Citroën C3, the emphasis on comfort is immediately apparent.

  • MANHART F350 – small motorsport track toy in a British racing green outfit

    2020 Mini F3501

The motorsport tradition in Great Britain is huge. The United Kingdom has produced some of the World’s most prestigious race tracks, such as Brands Hatch and of course Silverstone, as well as many successful drivers and race cars. The characteristic and downright legendary paint finish for the latter developed into the color “British Racing Green”. In reminiscence of past glorious motorsport successes, MANHART Performance has now chosen exactly this color to be featured on the latest model of the MANHART F350 based on the MINI John Cooper Works GP.

The typical MANHART racing and decorative stripes, which are distributed over the body, are in a strong red color, creating a high-contrast look that further enhances the already considerably eye-catching factor of the MINI, due to its extroverted body kit. The foil design was realized by the Dutch specialists at JD Customs. The same color combination is also used for the bracing strut in the rear of the F350. Further visual highlights are provided by the matte black, MANHART Concave One alloy wheels with red accent lines, which are mounted on the axles of the power dwarf in the dimensions 8.5×19 inch with 235/30 ZR19 tires.

By the way: The new owner of the MANHART F350 shown here can be sure of the absolute exclusivity of his vehicle. This is because while MANHART Performance can choose from countless color combinations, each color scheme realized will only exist exactly once – including the one in British Racing Green and Red.

Furthermore, the extremely sporty appearance is by no means out of place here, because after all, MANHART expertly provided a performance boost for the turbocharged, B48 four-cylinder engine in the front of the JCW GP, which already provides 306 hp and 450 Nm in series production: 350 hp and 530 Nm maximum torque. The MANHART F350 is therefore extremely powerful. An ECU remapping by the Dutch MINI specialists from Beek Auto Racing as well as a MANHART intercooler from Airtec is responsible for the power increase. To round off the range, MANHART is offering a gasoline particle filter replacement pipe and a cat-back exhaust system with four-stage flap control manufactured at Remus.

On the chassis side, F350 customers are spoilt with a choice: MANHART Performance offers either lowered springs, which lower the body by 20 millimeters at the front and 15 millimeters at the rear and has been installed on the vehicle shown here, or fully adjustable coil overs in three versions – each from AST Suspension in the Netherlands.

MANHART worked closely with Beek Auto Racing from the Netherlands in the conversion of the John Cooper Works GP to the F350. Among other things, Beek Auto Racing runs MINIspeed.eu, one of Europe’s largest webshops specializing in MINI. Thanks to this cooperation, MANHART will in the future be able to offer numerous other tuning components for the JCW GP on request.

All further facts as well as price and delivery information can be obtained at www.manhart-performance.de or directly from the MANHART Performance sales team. More information about the complete range of Beek Auto Racing products for the MINI JCW GP can be found at the webshop www.MINIspeed.eu. The webshop offers more than 1000 different products for the entire MINI model range.

  • A double win for Volkswagen: new golf and ID.3 take victory in their categories at the German car of the year awards

Video: Electric mobility for all: Volkswagen Golf eHybrid

The judges had to choose between no fewer than 72 new models, split into five different categories: compact cars with a basic price of up to EUR 25,000 (Compact), premium models with a basic price of up to EUR 50,000 (Premium), more expensive vehicles in the luxury segment (Luxury), vehicles with alternative drive systems (New Energy), and sports cars (Performance). “Both the new Golf and the ID.3 won over our judges in their respective segments – though they faced some very tough competition,” says co-organizer Jens Meiners, a reporter for the German and US motoring press. Given the restrictions required due to the pandemic, Meiners had to deal with some unique challenges this year: “running a test event has never been more demanding. However, the program was never called into doubt. We believe that cars are still important, even during the coronavirus crisis – in fact, they may be more important than ever.”

“The new Golf and the ID.3 have already come out on top in a number of relevant comparison tests. The fact that the two top-of-the-range models were rewarded by the jury primarily for their environmentally friendly designs and innovations is also a very special form of recognition for all of us here at Volkswagen,” says Klaus Zellmer, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Passenger Cars with responsibility for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, in response to the journalists’ decisions. “Environmentally friendly design and innovation are the most important cornerstones of our “Way to Zero” strategy, which aims to deliver zero-emissions mobility for all. With its highly efficient engines, the Golf plays just as an important role during the transformation phase as the fully electric and already carbon-neutral ID.3.”

The 10-day event will enable customers to experience Renault’s growing range of battery electric vehicles and E-TECH hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains with an immersive experience that demonstrates the benefits of moving to an electrified model.

Renault’s broad range of electrified vehicles available

Renault’s expanding range of electric and electrified vehicles will be available to customers to test drive, including the New ZOE, All-New Clio E-TECH Hybrid, All-New Captur E-TECH Plug-in hybrid and Kangoo Z.E. commercial vehicle.

The New ZOE is Europe’s best-selling electric vehicle and boasts up to 245 miles (WLTP) driving range, with the ability to charge to 80% in just one hour and ten minutes via its new 50kW DC charging option. Alternatively, a 30-minute charge is all that’s needed for a 90-mile boost in range.

The All-New Clio E-TECH Hybrid is Renault’s first hybrid vehicle, offering drivers the ability to complete up to 80% of urban journeys on electric power alone, courtesy of its advanced E-TECH powertrain that always starts in electric mode. Not only is this model the most powerful Clio with 140hp, it also emits just 98g/km of CO2, making it an excellent all-round powertrain option that’s available across all Clio trim levels.

Alongside the Clio E-TECH Hybrid, Renault’s first plug-in hybrid models have joined the range – the All-New Captur E-TECH Plug-in hybrid and the New Megane Sport Tourer E-TECH Plug-in hybrid. Both of these models use the same 1.6-litre petrol engine found in the Clio, in combination with a powerful electric motor for a combined output of 160hp and the ability to drive up to 30 miles on battery power alone, while emitting just 30g/km of CO2.

Also available for customers to test drive will be the popular Kangoo Z.E., offering up to 143 miles of range in a choice of body lengths and Business and Business+ trim levels.

The recently introduced New ZOE Van and Master Z.E. are also included in the Unplugged promotion. The New ZOE Van boasts up to 245 miles of range and makes an ideal vehicle for couriers and delivery drivers in urban environments, while the Master Z.E. offers the same generous payload volumes as the rest of the Master range, while delivering zero tailpipe emissions.

    Commitment to COVID-safe dealerships

All Renault retailers continue to operate in a COVID-safe way, with stringent measures in place to ensure the safety of customers and staff.

Clear signage instructs buyers where to go once they reach the retailer, while any interactions when collecting a vehicle adhere to the guidance from the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) and Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) as well as latest government guidelines on social distancing.

All cars are prepared to a high cleaning standard, with attention paid to disinfecting door handles, using covers for seats, steering wheels, gear levers and floor mats, while Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn by anyone working on the vehicle. Keys are wiped clean and placed in a neutral zone for the customer to collect.

Appointments and visits to the showroom are staggered where possible, and a limit on the number of visitors in the showroom at one time is in place, while social distancing is maintained inside and outside.

Renault dealerships have adapted sites to suit, with clear and informative signage to inform and reassure both workers and visitors. Reminders to adhere to social distancing measures are clear on arrival, while there are clear reminders to sanitise workstations and vehicles to the highest standards.

  • Passion for quality and progressiveness: the new Audi e-Tron GT

    The Audi e-tron GT

Passion for detail, maximum precision, and top quality: The new Audi e-tron GT reflects all the passion with which Audi develops and builds cars. For the production of the electrically powered Gran Turismo at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site, the company uses customised new technologies – however, the finishing touches are applied by highly skilled hands. And since the dynamic work of art must also sound good, Audi has brought musical flair and technical competence to bear in composing a unique sound for the e-tron GT. It sounds powerful and progressive – just as an Audi should.

Production of the Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT is the brand’s first fully electric car to be built in Germany. The Gran Turismo will start rolling off the production line at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site at the end of 2020. The small-series production facility has been expanded, upgraded, and converted for its new role. The skilled craftsmanship from the previous facility has been retained and is supplemented by digital processes and smart technologies. During the expansion, production planners made use of new virtual methods. The tests of the work procedures on the assembly line and the logistic processes were conducted in the virtual domain for the first time, with container planning also performed with the help of VR technology. Production of the e-tron GT was designed without physical prototypes – a first at Audi.

Large areas of the body of the all-electric Gran Turismo are constructed from ultra-high-strength steel and aluminium. To produce this material mix in the planned quantities, a body shop was established that combines the skilled craftsmanship of the employees with the full potential of automated production technology. It consists of an innovative body assembly line along which each body passes twice. It is constructed around what is called the two-way framer, in which ten robots are used to attach the inner and outer side panels. It combines all manufacturing steps involved in joining the sides in a single system – thus making production of the Audi e-tron GT possible on the existing floorspace.

The inline measuring procedure for the bodies is also new. It guarantees even greater accuracy and can respond very quickly to minute deviations. At the end of the body assembly line is where precise craftsmanship comes into play: Experienced workers fit the add-on parts and check the finish of the completed body. The expressive design of the Audi e-tron GT places unusually high demands on production quality – the side wall frame, for instance, has a remarkably large draw depth of 35 centimetres (13.8 in) between its highest and lowest point.

The expanded assembly line includes 36 instead of the previous 16 cycles. The e-tron GT shares it with the R8 – this integration of two technically completely different cars is unique in the Volkswagen Group. Both models are moved using the same driverless transport vehicles and an electrically powered monorail system. At one station of the line, humans and robots work side by side. A 3D printer is also on hand to produce customised assembly aids at the employees’ request. Once completed, every car is driven for 40 kilometres (24.9 mi) on public roads, which also includes sections on the highway and in urban traffic.

“With the integration of the Audi R8 and Audi e-tron GT, a unique combination of craftsmanship and smart factory technology is coming to life at Böllinger Höfe,” says Production Head Wolfgang Schanz in summary. “I am especially proud of the passion and spirit of our team.”

The e-sound of the Audi e-tron GT
Whether it’s quality, design or technical characteristics – the Audi e-tron GT is a car packed with all the passion of Audi. This also applies to the sound of the electrically powered Gran Turismo. Engineers Rudolf Halbmeir and Stephan Gsell conceived and designed the progressive electronic sound – on the computer, in the sound laboratory, inside the moving car, and in customer studies.

As with every electric car, the e-tron GT also features the statutory acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS), although embedded within a broader acoustic spectrum. A loudspeaker fitted in the front of the vehicle emits the AVAS sound. For customers ordering the optional sound package, a second, large loudspeaker is added in the rear. In parallel, two loudspeakers in the interior provide an emotional sound experience. Two control units continuously remix the e-tron GT sound based on variables such as speed or accelerator position. The Audi drive select system allows drivers to set whether and how intensively they wish to experience the sound.
