Opel to Introduce Brand New GT Concept in Geneva [w/videos]

Opel GT Concept Teaser Image Opel is going to introduce at the Geneva Motor Show a brand new car, called GT Concept. It has just released a second teaser video showing a glimpse of the future car. If you have missed the first one we have featured both videos below. What we can see from the last one is more of car’s design.

In the clip, the CEO of Vauxhall and Opel, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, opens a door to display the front of the purebred GT Concept. He also says ‘Don’t miss what happens next.’ In addition, the company also released the first teaser image of the GT Concept, which displays its central double exhaust.

As a matter of fact, this feature is was a highlight of ground-breaking concept cars from both Vauxhall and sister brand Opel in the mid-1960s, and comes to show the link between now and then. Vauxhall introduced the XVR at the Geneva Show in 1966, while Opel – the Experimental GT at Frankfurt the year before. So, are we to witness similarities in design?

One thing we are sure of is that the GT Concept won’t be in any way old-fashioned or retro. However, the cars will share the same design philosophy which stands for ‘ultra-modern, minimalistic and uncompromising with a sculptural shape ’.

As for red tire of the Opel GT Concept we have seen in the previous video (the second one below), it pays homage in an avant-garde way to the MotoClub 500, a futuristic Opel motorcycle from 1928 that wore red rubber. This new concept undoubtedly promises an innovative approach to the well-known Opel design.

The world premiere of the OpelGT Concept will happen at the Geneva International Motor Show from March 3rd until March 13th.

2016 Vauxhall Maloo Will Become Even More Appealing. Check Out Why.

2016 Vauxhall Maloo LSA Despite the fact that Vauxhall doesn’t offer that many pickup models, there is one particular that catches our eye: the Maloo LSA. It did it with arrival of the latest and greatest 6.2-liter 536hp (394kW) V8 power unit.

In fact, the improvements for 2016 model year are clear: boost from 431hp to 536hp and from 570Nm to 671Nm. And this massive power will be cooled by an especially designed cooling system, which is indeed the Eaton 4-lobe and will be further supported by a bi-modal exhaust function. In order to support the additional 105hp and 101Nm of power there were also numerous modifications made onto the chassis. The springs and dampers received some fine-tune improvements that now deliver better stiffness qualities and somehow better braking efficiency.

And in addition to the power and chassis improvements, 2016 Maloo will also benefit from numerous exterior style improvements. The front will feature a special restyled fascia and a subtle splitter, while the back will include a pitch-black bonnet air vents and reshaped lines to underline that aggressive look. Of course, in terms of aesthetics, the vehicle stays impeccably beautiful with all the elegant and fluent lines, the 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and the new colors Slipsteam (blue) and Some Like it Hot (red) further enhance the passionate and elegant stance.

Winter is Coming and According to Vauxhall, There Will Be Light

2016 Vauxhall Astra Adaptive LED Matrixh Lights Winter is coming and brings tons of responsibilities for drivers and vehicle owners. And at this time of the year Vauxhall decided to add some more flavor to its all-new Astra with the IntelliLux LED Matrix headlights. As the dark times of the year approach, these adaptive, glare-free, permanent high-beam lamps will illuminate your road in a significant way and will also reduce the risk of accidents. Or at least say so Vauxhall’s engineering team.

According to the Department for Transport statistics, there are over 900 accidents in darkness hours that involve carriage way hazard. And almost the half of them involve animals and other objects. And in such dark times Vauxhall comes with solution and offers salvation and devotion to the light side. So, let’s check out how bright is the light side of driving.

The Adaptive LED Matrix Lights

The lights consist a total of 16 LED segments, eight on each side of the vehicle and a special matrix system that switches the high beam on right after the car exits the urban area and then again automatically and constantly adapts both the length and shape of the light cone in every traffic situation.

And using the input from the front camera that detects the light source from an approaching vehicle, the IntelliLux again automatically deactivates the individual LEDs in the relevant zone that can blind other drivers. Frankly, this seems a really useful idea.

The researches made in the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany and the European LightSightSafety initiative do demonstrate some interesting conclusions. At speeds of about 90km/h (50mph) drivers with full LED matrix systems locate objects at the side of the road approximately 30-40m earlier than drivers in vehicles with conventional halogen or xenon lights. In other words, the driver who uses LED matrix system has additional 1.5 seconds for reaction in road situations.

And one more thing. When the camera detects light sources from oncoming vehicles, the individual LEDs in the relevant zone deactivate themselves and cut out the area around the cars. But at the same time the rest of the road is highly illuminated.

So, should we trust Vauxhall’s path of illumination or should we stick to the old, but still proved itself path of not-that-dark-darkness?

2016 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Will be Even More Flexible

Vauxhall’s 2016 Astra Sports Tourer will make its debut at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Like its five-door sibling, the Sports Tourer is based on lightweight architecture technology, fresh design and improved drivetrain system.

Style

Just like the five-door hatch, the 2016 Sports Tourer embraces the “Sculptural Artistry meets Technical Precision” philosophy. But not only that. It even takes it to the next level.

The vehicle will come with extended dynamic lines and slightly arched sloping roofline. This combination gives the Tourer a sort of longer appearance. And the effect is even further enhanced by the divided C-pillar. And now the Tourer has a stable, robust but still confident stance.

Drivetrain System

The engines available for the vehicle are petrol and diesel units offering from 100 hp (73 kW) to 200 hp (147 kW). And now the latest 1.4-Liter 150 hp (110 kW) ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo and the 1.6-Liter CDTi Whisper Diesel are also included. Furthermore, the 200 hp 1.6-Liter ECOTEC petrol unit will make its debut at the Frankfurt Show.

Chassis

Depending on the model, the trim level is up to 200 kg lighter than its predecessor. The revised vehicle architecture is what makes this difference in weight so drastic. Furthermore, every components was created for compact design and with lightweight materials.

Connectivity

The vehicle offers Astra OnStar technology, which is famous for its high-speed 4G LTE mobile network, emergency response notification and stolen vehicle recovery alert. The Sports Tourer also offers and the already famous Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, available through the latest version of the IntelliLink infotainment system.

Will the Latest Vauxhall Astra Be Really That Interesting?

Vauxhall’s latest Astra will be unveiled at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt on 15th of September, around 09:00 at Stand D09 in Hall 8.0. Created at the Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, the model will be with 200 kg lighter than its predecessors and will also feature interesting engineering solutions: the vehicle will be smaller from the outside, but more spacious from the inside. Nice.

The latest Astra will grant owners with numerous powerplant options, both diesel and petrol units. Buyers can chose among several engine models with power ranging from 100 hp (73 kW) to 200 hp (147 kW). In fact, among the engine units, there is also the latest 1.4-liter 145 hp ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo with four cylinders. Vauxhall Astra is here! First Official Pictures and Data Released

2015 Vauxhall Astra is unleashed! The company has finally released the first official photos of the car and detailed data revealing a lot ahead of its official premiere in Frankfurt this September. There are a lot of exiting facts about it. First, the new Astra is about 200kg lighter than outgoing model. Although it is smaller on the outside, Vauxhall says that it is bigger on the inside.

In addition, the engine range now features the 145PS 1.4-liter petrol unit. Another interesting fact is that this is the first Vauxhall ever to feature OnStar technology. There is also an IntelliLink R 4.0 that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Lightweight Design

This is actually the seventh generation of the Astra model which is scheduled for production later this year. Depending on the trim level, the new car sheds an average of 130kg and up to 200kg, when compared with its predecessor. Major role for this plays the new architecture of the car.

Every component of it was made of lightweight materials like the high- and ultra-high-strength low-weight steels. The compact subframes and the weight reductions to the front and rear axle also play crucial role.

Drivetrains

The powertrain portfolio of the model features petrol and diesel units with power output ranging from 100PS to 200PS. The star here is the new petrol 1.4-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo unit, which not only generates more than 145 PS but also 250Nm, available between 1,800rpm and 4,000rpm.

The base level engine is the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo petrol with 105 PS, and the diesels are based on the 1.6 CDTi ‘Whisper Diesel’ with output range from 110PS up to 160PS.

Exterior Design

The design of the 2015 Vauxhall Astra is based on the Monza Concept. The car actually looks better than ever with its athletic and imposing stance. At the front we see how the front IntelliLux LED Matrix Light headlamps flow into the radiator grille, but the most significant design cue can be seen on the sides where the divided C-pillar creates the impression of a floating roof.

As mentioned, the seventh generation Astra is smaller on the outside, but bigger inside. It has a total length of 4.37m making it 5cm shorter than its predecessor. The height is 1.46m, which is also 2.6cm lower.

Interior Design

Although the wheelbase has been reduced by 2cm, the amount of space inside was increased. This is due to the implementation of the newly-designed seats, which allow the rear passengers the experience of additional 35mm legroom.

The instrument panel features clean look and includes large colour touchscreen in the centre stack and a reduced amount of control switches and buttons.

At last, the OnStar is going to be featured for the first time in a Vauxhall, while the IntelliLink – in an Astra. The latter is an infotainment system which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Vauxhall and Josh Stika Collaborated To Create Incredible Piece of Art

The well-known British artist Josh Stika revealed his latest artwork concept, that include collaboration with Vauxhall Motors. After numerous shows and numerous hours of work, the British artist comes back to the Shoreditch streets with incredible idea to demonstrate.

His latest work includes a graphic swirl on a wall of Sclater Street near Brick Lane, which stretches onto Vauxhall DAM ROCK AIR vehicle, which creates an incredible optical illusion, only witnessed from certain points.

The collaboration between Stika and Vauxhall Motors really demonstrates the talent of the artist. He really can create an incredible masterpiece and he shows it one more time with the special project and fresh idea of a car and a wall. Incredible. Stika uses his style of graphics and typography to paint the wall and car, which is the secret, behind the incredible optical illusion.

The wonderful piece of art will remain on Sclater Street, between Brick Lane and Boxpark until 30th May 2015. It is really a beautiful piece of art, that everyone must see with his own eyes. As some anonymous street artist have written once upon a time, “The earth without “art” is just “eh””. Think about it.

Vauxhall Shows Interesting Politics for its Customers

In fact, “Fill4Free” is part of brands Service4Fleet standards, that offer money-saving programs, fixed-cost menus and over 400 Vauxhall retailers. James Taylor, Fleet Sales Director ensures us, that the Service4Gleet Program will make customer’s life much easier. Definitely an interesting idea, but how efficient is it?

With the strict emission regulations, most Euro-6 diesel vehicles must be upgraded with a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system, that reduces the harmful Nox emissions. Current Vauxhall models, that include this technology are Insignia, Cascada, Zafira Tourer, Vivaro and Movano.

Opel Corsa Gets 150 hp Turbo Engine

2015 Corsa is getting a 150 horsepower 1.4 ECOTEC Turbo engine. The sporty new unit will be offered on both the three- and five-door variants. The result is better driving experience and performance. Besides the additional horsepower, the car receives more torque as well. Precisely it is measured at 220 Nm, which actually contributes to the 8.9 seconds acceleration time for the 0-100 km/h sprint. The top speed of 207 km/h speaks for itself. The unit is coupled with a six-speed transmission that drives the front wheels.

Although this engine is more powerful than the Corsa 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo with only 115 hp, it shows great efficiency. The car needs only 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. If you wonder about the CO2 emissions, they are 136 g/km.

In addition, this particular Corsa will be offered in two trim choices: the so called Color Edition and the INNOVATION. There is also a Turbo Plus Package that offers additional equipment which is similar to the OPC version of the car.

To go into details, inside the Color Edition one will find wide range of standard features such as aluminum sports pedals and in the rear – a darkly tinted Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing. In addition, there are also steering wheel with controls for the audio and cruise control. On the outside this model stands out with high-gloss black roof and grille, chrome exhaust tailpipe, fog lights and 17-inch wheels.

INNOVATION trim is all about luxury. It adds chrome window trim and door handles. The other features that are worth mentioning here are the bi-xenon headlamps, the LED daytime running lights as well as the automatic low beam lighting and the rain sensor for the wiper blades.

As mentioned there is a Turbo Plus Package available. It mimics the OPC car with front and rear spoiler lip, body-colored side sills and a roof spoiler. Two elements are made of carbon – the exterior mirrors and the grille. Inside there is a sports steering wheel, Recaro sport seats, gearshift knob and handbrake wrapped in black leather.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR Leaks Ahead of Geneva Debut

Vauxhall Corsa VXR has just been revealed in pictures. The ultra-powerful small hot-hatch will be premiered officially at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. Vauxhall says that the car benefits from significant revisions in technology, new interior and exterior design improvements as well as new Corsa’s chassis. In addition, the vehicle shows literally breath-taking performance: it covers the 0-60mph sprint in only 6.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 143mph.

This result is due to the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, which produces 205 hp (150 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque from lower revs between 1,900rpm and 5,800rpm. An overboost facility provides an additional 35Nm of torque, ideal for swift and safe overtaking.

Despite these numbers, Corsa VXR is still capable of achieving 37.7mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 174g/km. The engine drives the front wheels via a second-generation six-speed transmission with a short, fluid gearchange.

The company has worked closely with Koni, a damper-supplier, in order to create the Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology.

FSD allows damping forces to adapt to the car’s movements, thus maintaining the body control when the car is driven fast.

Further improvements include a lowering in car’s height by 10 mm. In addition, Vauxhall is offering a two-stage switchable electronic stability programme (ESP) and traction control (TC) with the Corsa VXR. In Competition Mode the traction control is inactive, while the ESP is relaxed to allow less intervention. For track use, the ESP can be fully disabled.

Steering was made more direct and precise, while Michelin 215/45 R17 tyres and 308mm front brake discs take care for better stopping power. For Corsa VXR “die-hard-fans” keen to enhance their car’s dynamics still further, there is the optional Performance Package. It comprises of Drexler limited-slip differential, larger 330mm-diameter Brembo front brake discs, 18-inch alloy wheels and more focused FSD damper.

The standard model will come with bi-xenon lighting and a choice of six exterior colours. The new exterior design features more aggressive front-end design, large air intakes and an aluminium-framed opening below the headlights.

There is also a small scoop which finds itself below the bonnet. In addition, the side-sill extensions improve the performance of the car, while a rear spoiler provides downforce over the back axle. The twin Remus exhaust pipes distinguish the model from the regular Corsa.

Inside, the car features standard Recaro seats, leather, flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports pedals, as well as a VXR gear-lever and instruments. The front windscreen is heated and Intellilink connectivity for Apple iOS and Android smartphones also come at no cost.

Making its global debut at the Brussels Motor Show today, the new Vauxhall Corsavan will reach the showrooms in UK in February. The small car has fresh exterior, refined chassis and simple but effective interior. Replacing its award-winning predecessor, the new model is 4.02 meters long and 1.94 meters wide.

Vauxhall Corsavan which takes its power from the 1.3CDTi (75 PS) Start/Stop unit comes for the price of £13108.33; the model with the more powerful 1.3CDTi Start/Stop version which generates 95 PS will cost £13558.33 and, finally, the Corsavan Sportive that takes advantage of the 1.3CDTi (95 PS) Start/Stop has the price tag of £14558.33.

Furthermore, the driving environment has been improved thanks to the seats that offer better support, durability and extended travel. Additionally, the reduced levels of noise, harshness and vibration contribute to the pleasantness of having this car. Other extras include electronic climate control, Winter Pack with heated seats and heated steering wheel, IntelliLink with 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and DAB, 16-inch black alloy wheels and rear parking sensors.
