ŠKODA KODIAQ carries company’s new design language into the SUV segment

The debut of ŠKODA KODIAQ will happen in a month on September 1st in Berlin. Since there isn’t much time left and the interest must be raised, ŠKODA has just released four images and a teaser video of the upcoming SUV, which is destined to transfer the brand’s new design language into the crossover segment.

Since we have a number of photos, let’s comment on what we are about to expect from the new model. The aim of ŠKODA’s designers is obviously to impress the public in Berlin. The radiator grille appears to be wider than expected, with three dimensional design, and coming in combination with narrow and rake-like headlights. The appropriate question here is whether the full-LED technology featured will be standard on the KODIAQ or not? Well, unfortunately it will come as an option for those keen on goodies like the LEDs.

Next, at the sides we see the athletic shapes of the doors, while the rear’s tailgate shows an expressively design forms. The good news here is that the rear lights will be fitted with LED technology as standard, shining in the typical ŠKODA C-shape.

But there are also details we can’t see on the teasers in the gallery, which ŠKODA has politely disclosed. First, the KODIAQ is going to offer a large amount of space. Precisely: a capacity of 720 to 2,065 litres, when the rear seats are folded down. If you haven’t heard, the SUV will have the convenience of a seven seat option.

In terms of driver assistance systems, ŠKODA has equipped the KODIAQ with Area View, which uses surround-view cameras at the front, rear and in the wing mirrors; Tow Assist and Manoeuvre Assist. The connectivity won’t be left inappropriate, because the company has ensured that the innovative ŠKODA Connect mobile online services are featured.  By the way, what we know so far is that they will be divided into two categories: the Infotainment Online services and Care Connect services. The centrepiece of the latter is the emergency call following an accident (it automatically calls emergency if an airbag is activated).

So are you excited for the word premiere?

  • Skoda will challenge supercars from the ’70s and 80’s. Stupid idea, indeed

    2016 SKODA Superb 200hp

This time SKODA team tries to do the impossible. And most likely it will fail. The engineering team tries to achieve performance rates from a vehicle that are enough to challenge a Lambo car or a Ferrari. And the most surprising thing? Well, SKODA is not going for this ultra-high quality next-gen hyper ultracar which goes from 0 to 200 mph in two seconds. Nor the team will charge some six figures for the model. So, let’s see what is going on here!

We talk about a new Superb model with 2.0 TSI 280hp (208kW) power unit. In fact, SKODA claims that this is by far brand’s most refined and powerful engine provided so far. And what for? To challenge a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB. Genious, SKODA. Challenging a 40-year older vehicle seems a good idea. And it is worth spreading the news. Apparently, SKODA team has way too much free time.

Along with its not-bad-sporty-oriented drivetrain system, the new Superb also comes with tons of luggage space. Okay, not tons, but a good 660 liters of free space. This also makes this particular mode one of the most spacious throughout all SKODA lineups.

SEE ALSO: Skoda Kodiaq is here. First images and details reveled!

Available in SE L Executive, SportLine and Laurin & Klement trim levels, the vehicle offers 18-inch alloys, Columbus satellite navigation system, electrically operated boot, leather upholstery and heated seats. Of course, we get the ambition to prove itself worthy among retired vintage cars, but we prefer not to talk about that.

It seems as SKODA team needs a summer vacation. A long one.

Skoda Kodiaq SUV breaks cover under military disguise

Skoda Kodiaq has been finally revealed as the company stars its major advertising campaign. Being 4.7m long, the SUV has the largest boot capacity within its class. In addition, it will be offered with the option of a third row of seats. Skoda fans must be excited right now and what they need to know is that the new model will go on sale in the beginning of next year.

Of course, the company did not disclose the entire specification list, but instead put a strong emphasis on the key advantages of Kodiaq. Here is what we know so far.

It seems that Skoda’s way to be future oriented is to include more technology and connectivity features. So, it promises that the Kodiaq will sport a variety of infotainment and online connectivity treats. Precisely, the SUV will be given Volkswagen’s second-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix, which offers numerous functions and interfaces, and what Skoda calls “capacitive touchscreens”.

SEE ALSO: Skoda reveals the new bear-inspired Kodiaq SUV with couple of sketches

Columbus and Amundsen systems are featured as an option and they come with a WiFi hotspot as well as LTE module for faster mobile services. In addition, the Skoda online services run via the Skoda Connect App, which is also helpful in cases of checking, configuring and finding the car from afar via a smartphone. The SmartLink platform, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate are all there.

    Skoda Kodiaq SUV rear view

The Kodiaq also comes equipped with a wide range of driving assistance system like the Area View cameras, the Tow Assist system and Front Assist, Parking Distance Control and more. But besides the technology and assistance systems, Skoda says that probably the most important asset of Kodiaq is the design, which is “full of character and emotion”. Furthermore, the SUV can be specified as five- or seven-seater, offering a capacity of up to 2,065 litres or the largest boot within its class.

In terms of engines and chassis, the new model in Skoda’s line-up can be specified with two TDIs and three TSIs. At the top of the range stands the 2.0-litre TSI petrol with its 180 hp (132 kW). The transmission options available are the six-speed manual gearbox, DSG transmission, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. One can also go for an off-road ride with the four-wheel drive specification just at the touch of a button specifying the preferred Driving Mode.

Detailed information and more images are going to be unveiled soon as Skoda is starting a major Kodiaq campaign. Stay tuned!

  • Skoda Superb SportLine: mixes sports experience with convenience

    Skoda Superb SportLine front view

To be offered with three petrol and two diesel engines

Skoda is often regarded as a mediocre brand, which offers family cars based on a Volkswagen’s platform. And it is actually famous for the latter. There are a lot of faithful fans out there and an equal amount of haters. Regardless on which side you are on, Skoda is strengthening its positions in the automotive word and releasing vehicles which are better than they have ever been in the brand’s history. We are witnessing a continuous expansion of the lineup, as well as extra equipment with every single model the Czech company releases. Let’s see what’s going on in their “garage” now.

The newest addition of the Superb lineup has been revealed. It is called SportLine and it is intended for those looking for sportier experience but still want “to keep it safe”. The first thing you have to know is that you can opt for this car in an Estate or Hatchback variant.

SEE ALSO: Skoda reveals the new bear-inspired Kodiaq SUV with couple of sketches

Then you should be probably thrilled to know that the Superb SportLine offers an enhanced “sporting” design. To prove this let us tell you that the car features 19-inch Anthracite Vega alloys, Bi-Xenon headlights, sports design bumpers, and black gloss grill. Sunset glass, wing mirrors, window surrounds and the body-colored spoiler are making it look even more dramatic. If you have chosen the Hatch, then you’ll also get the rear spoiler at no extra cost. To keep the family trend, Skoda has equipped the Estate with roof rails in black gloss.

    2016 Skoda Superb SportLine wheels

The cabin has suffered some changes too: it adds a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with silver stitching, quilted Alcantara sports seats (they are kind of nice, aren’t they) and LED ambient lighting. But what really make this Superb stand out, as a sports edition, are the carbon dashboard trim and the aluminium pedals.

The Superb SportLine has also lowered chassis. Compared to its family, it sits 15mm closer to the ground. Another benefit that brings about excitement in the driving experience is the XDS electronic differential lock, which ensures the sharper handling.

If we have convinced you that this is the best car for you, then you should also know that it comes in various color options, but there is one in particular, which has been specifically introduced for the SportLine. It is called Dragon Green metallic (you will love it!), but unfortunately you should specify it as an option.

At last, there are a lot of engine options offered for Skoda Superb SportLine, precisely three petrols and two diesels. The range-topping is the 2.0-litre TSI 280PS 4X4, which makes it to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and emits just 160 g/km CO2.

  • Skoda reveals the new bear-inspired Kodiaq SUV with couple of sketches

Skoda Kodiaq Sketch - front viewSkoda Kodiaq is the next SUV in brand’s lineup and it has been just unveiled with couple of sketches. Well, we must say we are a bit disappointed because it looks like a Fabia but on bigger wheels. Kodiaq is about to celebrate its world debut in September, and Skoda is obviously expecting to impress the public. But it won’t do that if the production version really stands for what the sketches show.

What does the Czech brand says? Well, according to their opinion, Kodiaq is about to make “a strong statement” with its “impressive combination of powerful design and generous space”. Since the design is inspired by the new generation Fabia, with clear-cut lines and three-dimensional effect, we would definitely say that the SUV we see on the road is Skoda-made.

SEE ALSO: Kodiaq is Skoda’s largest SUV to be premiered in the second half of 2016

In details: the “striking design language” we witness on the sketches shows highly recessed shoulder line, flat and raked headlights and wide grille. The rear highlights Kodiaq’s sporty character and it tries doing so with the C-shaped LED rear lights. The side view shows the long wheelbase of 4.70 meters (the only benefit here, because this SUV is offering third row with two optional seats) and short overhangs.

Skoda Kodiaq Sketch - rear view

    But is this enough?

The information we have about the interior is that it will be big and will adopt the “clear design” of the exterior. Skoda also disclosed that it will feature strong vertical elements, like the four large air vents, a large display which will split the instrument panel into two equal sections for the driver and passenger.

At last, if you still wonder what the name means, here’s the secret behind it: as the largest SUV in Skoda’s range, its name refers to the Kodiak bear species, which are currently living alongside 14,000 people on the Kodiak Island and on its harsh but captivating landscape located off the southern coast of Alaska.

    So impressive, Skoda, so impressive!

  • SKODA Octavia meets 2017 model season with tons of improvements

2017 SKODA Octavia The 2017 range of SKODA Octavia becomes even more appealing, thanks to the numerous dynamics and efficiency improvements. One of the most notable changes is definitely the new high-tech, three-cylinder turbo petrol power unit and the adaptive DCC that is optional for units with 150 hp or more.

This unit replaces the 1.2-liter one and offers 115hp (85kW) and 200Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. In fact, this is the first three-cylinder unit to be installed in the Octavia that features sophisticated acoustics and excellent driving dynamics.

Combined with a 7-speed DSG, the new 1.0 TSI accelerates from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 9.9 seconds and has a top speed of 228km/h (126mph). The combination with a 6-speed manual reduces the sprint to 9.6 seconds.

    2017 SKODA Octavia

Some achievements were also made on the fuel consumption efficiency that is measured at 62.8mpg with emitting 105g CO2/km with the automatic gearbox. There is also an optional aero pack with some more improvements on the fuel efficiency: it brings lowered sport chassis, active air flaps, a tailgate or roof spoiler and low rolling resistance tires. Sweet.

  • Kodiaq is Skoda’s largest SUV to be premiered in the second half of 2016

Skoda Kodiaq SUV teaser image Skoda Kodiaq is the newest and largest SUV in the lineup of car in company’s family. The rather strange name of the vehicle is not accidental. Since it is the larges in the range, the name refers to the Kodiak bear species, which lives on a remote island off the southern coast of Alaska.  And this is the way the indigenous people of the Alutiiq have called the bear. What we also know is that the new SUV campaign and its debut introduction will happen in the second half of 2016.

There are not so many details available at the moment, but Skoda has actually given us a hint with the Alaskan story. 3500 Kodiak bears are currently living alongside 14,000 people on the Kodiak Island and on its harsh but captivating landscape located off the southern coast of Alaska. So are we to expect that the vehicle will sport a great off-road and all-weather capability? Or would it be as big as the biggest SUV in its range?

SEE ALSO: We Have Told You About SKODA VisionS, But We Havent’s Told You About Brand’s Plans. Here They Are

In addition, the native people, the Alutiiq, has helped (not directly but rather inspired) Skoda’s team to use the letter “q” at the end of SUV’s name. The reason: the Alutiiq call the bear Taq uka ‘aq and the ‘q’ is characteristic of animal names.

Well, Skoda has actually confirmed that the Kodiaq is 4.70 metres long and will accommodate comfortably seven people. In addition, representatives also said that it will offer fantastic performance both on and off the beaten track. We haven’t seen the design of the SUV so far, but what we know for sure is that it is an expression of its hidden power. So the design would definitely feature muscular lines representing dynamic, robust and strong appearence.

At last, Skoda will be launching a campaign for the promotion of the SUV under the moto ‘Discover new ground’. In addition, the model will be also marking the beginning of the brand’s new SUV campaign, and will aim at attracting new consumer groups in this segment.

We are expecting curiously the public debut of Skodsa Kodiaq in the second half of 2016, while the market debut is planned for the beginning of 2017.

  • Skoda VisionS Concept Revealed in Details. To Feature Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

Skoda VisionS Concept Front ViewSkoda VisionS Concept, which we showed you yesterday appearing in a ‘teaser’ video, has been revealed today with two images, showing its exterior at the front and the rear. With the VisionS the Czech car manufacturer will offer a glimpse into how company’s future SUV design language might look. Being on display at the Geneva Motor Show and making a debut there, the show car also presents its most important future technologies. Furthermore, the visitors of the event will also see the Skoda Octavia vRS 4×4, the Octavia G-TEC with DSG transmission and the ScoutLine version of the Fabia Estate.

    Skoda VisionS Concept: The Details

VisionS has a design, which is clearly influenced by Czech Cubism and the tradition of Bohemian crystal art and this is due to its precise lines that are sharp and clean-cut. These lines perfectly accentuate the Island-Green exterior color.

The concept car rides on a 2.79-meter wheelbase, and has a length of 4.70 meters, 1.91 meters width and 1.68 meters height. It is also based on Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) and is the first Skoda vehicle to be equipped with six seats across three rows.

The brand has also announced that the SUV will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with a total power of 225 hp (165 kW). Therefore acceleration happens from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds. The top speed is limited at 200 km/h.

    Skoda VisionS Concept Rear View

Having this kind of drivetrain means low fuel consumption, which in this case is 1.9 litres of petrol for 100 km. the emissions have been rated at 45 grams CO2 per kilometer. Furthermore, the VisionS can drive up to 50 km on electric alone, and will travel up to 1000 km with both systems.

Speaking of the powertrain, it comprises of an internal combustion engine, which is a 1.4 TSI with 156 hp (115 kW) and 250 Nm (185 lb-ft) of torque, and an e-motor that provides 40 kW of 40 kW continuous power and 220 Nm peak torque. Everything is integrated within a six-speed DSG that sends the power to the front wheels. There is a second electric motor, which delivers up to 85 kW and 270 Nm of torque drives the rear axle.

Here’s the deal: both motors work independently from each other and this means that the show car features a smart four-wheel drive, which requires no mechanical coupling. In addition, Skoda VisionS driver can choose between several modes of operation – from purely electric drive to charge modes. The e-motor is connected to a lithium-ion battery with a 12.4kWh capacity, which is mounted in front of the rear axle.

At last, we must say that the interior of the SUV concept is generous and includes three rows of seats, for optimal comfort of optimal number of passengers.

Skoda VisionS Concept Teaser Sketch Skoda VisionS Concept has been revealed with first couple of sketches in the beginning of this month. Now, the brand has released another image and the first of four design films that will promote the car. You can view it below the text.

VisionS is going to make its world premiere at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show this March. The company is carrying over their new emotive design language into the SUV segment with the unveiling of this innovative SUV show car. In addition, the concept will provide a glimpse of brand’s future large SUV model.

In other words, Skoda’s new design language emphasizes these three aspects: aesthetics, functionality and crystalline effects. The new styling philosophy was first introduced two years ago through the VisionC study, and was subsequently launched into series production with the Fabia and Superb. This means that the design of the VisionS will be probably transferred into a production Yeti.

As mentioned, this is the first of Skoda’s four VisionS promotion videos. In all of them Jozef Kabaň and his team explain what drives and inspires them in the development of company’s design language. Stay tuned, because more are coming soon!

Through it Skoda aims to preview the future modern design language in the SUV segment. The show car is said to look very closely to the production one, representing a perfect balance between aesthetics, power and function.

Back in 2014, Skoda released the VisionC design study, and to continue this approach, now the brand is transferring this to the SUV segment. The name VisionS clearly shows that ‘S’ stands for SUV. Speaking of which, it will be larger than the Yeti model, and will have length of 4,700mm and width of 1,910mm. Skoda VisionS Rear View

At the sides, the future Skoda SUV continues the sharp design language, while the angular wheel arches highlight the off-road character of the vehicle. The upper-shoulder contour forms a deep groove over the sills.
