  • Peugeot 208 GTI Concept & 208 XY Concept

Peugeot 208 GTi Concept ThumbPeugeot is going to present two modern concept cars at Geneva Motor Show, which is going to take place in just a month. The first one is the Peugeot 208 XY Concept which is intended for city dwellers who love distinction and refinement. And the second one is the Peugeot 208 GTi Concept which is a modern reincarnation of the iconic legend. The first glance these two concepts stand out with their detailing of the signature LED headlamp design, which is prominently visible during day and night. The precision continues with the integrated style components on the bodywork. Wheel arches have wing extensions, and bodywork with sills enhance the stance.

All this of course is featured in the new 208 Peugeot GTi Concept. In addition, it also includes chequered-flag motifs that embellish the metal mesh of the grille. The lower bar proudly affirms its origin by displaying the French ‘Le Tricolour’ flag or the Union Jack when in the UK. Furthermore, other distinctive exterior features include: double chromed exhaust tailpipes, aero lower bodywork spoilers and lower sill skirt extensions that all capture the signature badging.  Placed within the grille is the brushed aluminium GTi Concept logo that can also be found on the rear quarter panels, as a salute to its illustrious predecessor – the legendary 205 GTi. The interior is also remade. The passenger compartment is a true GTi environment, with a characteristic sports leather stitched steering wheel. This theme is replicated on the sides of the gear lever. Double stitching is also featured in the. The sports seats are trimmed with Nappa leather on the outer section, and cloth in the centre with an embossed tartan motif, and a leather head restraint. Moreover, the red perforated leather steering wheel continues the check motif, and has a pronounced lower flat section, which carries the GTi Concept logo set in an aluminium ring. The fascia capping is dressed in Alcantara with grey stitching, the roof lining is entirely black and the pedals are aluminium. The centre console architecture and ventilation vents all feature a graduated red to black effect, and the chequered-flag theme is also present on the aluminium door crossbars. This makes it a perfect representation of a sports car. To go further into details, the GTi Concept has a powerfully-compact 1.6-litre RCZ THP 200 engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox.  Moreover, it is more compact and lighter than its predecessor, thus delivering road-holding that is both excellent and precise.  To improve further the dynamic experience, it has a 36mm wider track, at the front and at the rear, and a rear roof spoiler to generate down force at speed. Eventually, GTi Concept is equipped with four discs for optimum braking performance.

    Peugeot 208 GTi Concept
    Peugeot 208 GTi Concept

Next comes the Peugeot 208 XY Concept, which also carries the name “Urban chic”. It is powered by a 1.6-litre e-HDi engine, which develops 115bhp (85 kW) and is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The exterior colour of the vehicle is crimson, and you can see it of course all over the interior too. However, in the body paintwork is also featured a so called special ‘Pulsion’ paintwork. This means that the XY Concept appears to constantly change, depending on the distance and the position from which it is viewed. The interior of the cabin is trimmed with crimson stitched leather on the dashboard, armrests, steering wheel rings, gear lever gaiter and sides, and with stripes on seat inserts and floor mats, while the panoramic glass roof is edge-trimmed in black leather. Pearly grey leather pleated seats feature five metal rings, which pinch and tighten the material. The steering wheel in leather received crimson micro-stripes with a chrome insert in the lower section. Furthermore, the finishing touches to the interior add a ‘gunmetal’ aesthetic treatment to the door crossbars, steering wheel decorations and vent trims. At last, the XY Concept rides on exclusive dual-effect 18″ alloy wheels complementing its ‘Pulsion’ colour.

  • Peugeot 308 in Brazil

Peugeot-308-thumbPeugeot is moving forwards in the world’s economy and the latest sign of that is the introduction of the 308 to Brazil which will happen March this year. Brazil will be the second South American country (after Argentina) to acquire the 308 two-box design as a mid-size option. The Brazilian version of the 308 distinguishes itself from the flock of Peugeots with three main characteristics – bald outer lines, abundant equipment trims and a an option of a Flex Fuel 1.6 engine, with the Flex Start® system.

The car itself, destined for Brazil, is made in Argentina and that’s a good thing as there is an internal free trade agreement between the Mercosur countries among which are Brazil and Argentina. There is something  made in Brazil however –  the clever EC5 Flex Fuel 1.6 engine  develops 122 hp which ranks it as the most powerful one in the segment. Flex Start is a piece of technology, developed by BOSCH, that has never been seen in a Peugeot before. It is an alternative to the existing small additional petrol tank located under the bonnet, used for cold starting at low temperatures. Instead the Flex Start uses an electronic system to heat up the Ethanol for maximum efficiency even at the severest of temperatures. That innovation, brought the EC5 driven Brazilian 308 much praise from IBAMA, Brazil’s Federal Ministry of the Environment. They have now stuck a ‘green label’ on the model which indicates their contempt.

  • Peugeot 208: Thiner and Less Thirstier

The new Peugeot 208 is set to hit the UK markets somewhere in June this year and it will be very green. The range of engines included have the sole purpose of saving the planet. Weight and dimensions have shrunken and “up to 25%” of the polymers used are from recycled products. A variety of 208 choices will meet the needs of picky – the vehicle comes as a 3 or 5-door hatchback, petrol or diesel with automatic transmissions, 5 or 6 speed manuals, stop and start systems for diesels and for an extra 500 quid, one gets a touch screen navigation.

First thing we notice are the looks – it’s a recognizable figure that has taken on modernity and sharpness. The boomerang-style tail lights are bulkier and more amorphous, the grille incorporates a funkier pattern while curves on the side dauntingly suggest – “I am French and don’t let them tell you otherwise”

Top of the range 1.6l THP petrol engine will be available this summer, developing 156 bhp and 240 Nm of torque while returning perfectly respectable 48.7 mpg. For ultimate economy though, the new 3-cylinder 1.0 or 1.2 VTi petrol bees are up for the job with 65.7 and 62.8 mpg respectively. Yet, the 1.4l e-HDI diesel trumps all the others with its economy of 83.1 mpg and 87g/km of carbon dioxide emissions. These minuscule figures are courtesy to Peugeot’s clever micro-hybrid Stop & Start System that comes with almost all diesels and the Electronic Gearbox Control (EGC).

    Peugeot 208 (2012)
    Peugeot 208 (2012)

Weight is down by around 110kg compared to the previous 207 and it is also a bit shorter with 7cm. Obviously the 208 has gone on a diet so that its occupants can let loose a bit as there is more back seat legroom and a significantly larger boot space – “optimized architecture”, say Peugeot. Moving on to the driver’s seat we are overjoyed with pure simplicity – we have a strangely elevated dashboard which houses a rev. counter, a speedometer, a temperature gauge and a fuel gage – classic Peugeot. The central console is tidy enough and the small steering wheel looks like a steering wheel and not like a Playstation controller. It is really as simple as today’s standards allow it to be, which is good for there’s nothing to distract the driver from the act of driving a perfect, nimble and sleek super-mini. The only traces of sophistication can be found on the 7-inch touch screen which controls all the USB/Bluetooth, multimedia bits and pieces.

All there is left to verify now is the handling performance which has the tough job to honour the 208’s predecessors. This Spring someone in mainland Europe will be lucky enough to test it out while in the UK, people will have to wait until June.

  • 2012 Peugeot 107

2012 Peugeot 107 thumbThe new 2012 Peugeot 107 is now renewed, refreshed and even more modern and urban than ever. It shows subtle and sophisticated style, and it will undeniably attract more attention. The reasons for this are several. Firstly, the designers have put a lot of attention on its appeal without making any sacrifices in terms of its advantages when facing the constraints of city driving. Next, the car has become even more practical and fuel-efficient. Moreover the new 2012 Peugeot 107 is enriched with a regularly renewed range, special editions and new equipment, in order to keep up with customer expectations. Furthermore it will offer a great satisfaction above all through its maneuverability, driving pleasure and economy. The aim of the designers was to develop its advantages in an increasingly competitive segment.

For instance it is with completely redesigned front face but unchanged in dimensions, thus making the 107 adopt the new style of the Peugeot brand, cut as closely as possible to the mechanics, while retaining its compactness. Moreover the new and more curved bonnet incorporates the new identity of the brand, so the rib of the bonnet which frames the two-tone lion and the number plate repositioned in the centre of the lower front panel hint at its relationship with the 208.

    2012 Peugeot 107
    2012 Peugeot 107

Furthermore the light units are more refined. At the front, they are extended and adopt a two-tone mask, echoing the color of the brand emblem situated on the bonnet. On the other hand at the rear they are adorned with a dark mask thus framing the lamps with a deep ruby color. In addition there is a new radiator grille, which is composed of honeycomb cells specific to the 107. It forms a fine and distinguished mouth, suspended by the body color that surrounds it. Next, the new lower front panel has contact cappings (one on the front face and the other two at the side). This makes it aesthetic and protective, particularly useful in city driving.

Adding further to its new style, the 2012 Peugeot 107 adopts a new visual signature at the lower front panel by means of LED day running lamps which emphasize the side protectors, and fog lamps animated by a chromed bead. Of course all of these style components were designed with the utmost care. Moreover the range of colors sees the addition of an exclusive and provocative new “Plum” color. The interior has new equipment and color schemes: “Mistral” interior color scheme, the new “Manhattan” seat upholstery and the two material door and dashboard trims. Furthermore there is also new comfort equipment which features CD audio system with two additional speakers as standard or as an option according to the level of finish; new PC Bluetooth CD audio system available as an option, combined with two additional speakers; USB, MP3 and Bluetooth connections; new steering wheel combined with a new gear lever knob, both leather trimmed, available as standard or as an option.

The 2012 Peugeot 107 is available in 3 and 5 door versions and with 2 different engines: 1.0i 5-speed manual and 1.0i 5-speed two-tronic manual. Last but not least, the car is designed to be environmentally efficient. The 107 lowers its levels of CO2 emissions still further to 99 and 104 g/km respectively for the manual and two-tronic gearboxes. Its running costs are also improved with fuel consumption reduced to 4.3 and 4.5 l per 100km (respectively for the manual and two-tronic gearboxes).

  • 2012 Peugeot 208

Peugeot will launch all-new 208 model in two distinct body styles; 3- and 5-door. It is set to arrive in mainland Europe in the spring and for the UK in the summer of 2012. Peugeot 206/207 are ones of the best-selling cars is in the ‘B’ (Supermini) segment, so the manufacturer expect huge success of the new 208.

2012 Peugeot 208 is completely different vehicle than the predecessor 207. It is lighter – 173kg with a range which starts at 975kg, more aerodynamic – Cd of 0.29, CdA of 0.61 and smaller – 70mm shorter and 10mm lower. These benefits are accentuated by noticeably increased occupant space, with more room in the rear seats (+5cm at the knees) and a more generous boot (+15 dm3 in volume), proof of optimised architectural performance.

“The strength of the 208 lies in its style: it is a real ball of energy. It has the potential to please everyone, like a popular piece of music that touches the human soul regardless of culture.”, commented Gilles Vidal, Style Director, Automobiles Peugeot.

Its latest generation engine technology and the use of the e-HDi micro-hybrid system on virtually all versions add to the vehicle’s improvements in terms of weight reduction and aerodynamics.

The 208 introduces a new range of 3-cylinder petrol engines, 1.0- and 1.2-litre VTi, which are particularly efficient. They return up to 65.7mpg with emissions of just 99g/km of CO2 .

The 208 renews the driving experience, a key factor in the DNA of every Peugeot:

    • Due to the small steering wheel which provides new ergonomics, the driver experiences a completely new driving agility,
    • Due to a new level of engineering between comfort and road holding, the result of the historical expertise of the Marque in terms of suspension and the benefits from the compactness and reduced weight of the vehicle.

  • 2012 Peugeot 4008

Finally, Peugeot tried to fix their huge mistake – 4007 model. The new 2012 Peugeot 4008 boasts distinctive, stylish appearance and 4×4 SUV features – 2×4, 4×4, and LOCK.

The vehicle looks rather better than the outgoing model. The new Peugeot SUV has floating grille and a feline design of the lamp units with visual signature: at the front, a line of LED daylight running lamps that complement the headlamps and three red claws sculpted rear lamps.

The off-road character has been emphasised by adopting a vertical design of grille, inclusion of body sill protectors and prominent wheel arch protection trims, to accommodate large wheels enhanced by the sophisticated design of the wheel rims. The almost-horizontal bonnet grooves and the style line – which extends to the rear wing where itdescends again crossing the lamp – are a distinctive feature and appear to hollow out along the body side, accentuating the strong and dynamic aspect of the 4008.

The engine range includes a 1.6 liter petrol with 115PS (85 kW) and 152Nm. There is also a bigger petrol with 2.0 liters of displacement and more power – 150PS (113 kW) and 198Nm (146 lb-ft).

    Of course, a diesel variant is more suitable for a SUV – a 1.6 liter HDi with 110PS (82 kW) and 270Nm (199 lb-ft) or a 1.8 liter HDi with 150PS (110 kW) and 300Nm (221 lb-ft). Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Hopefully, the new 2012 Peugeot 4008 is more successful than the previous effort of the manufacturer to build a SUV.
