  • ECOTECH: 2016 Opel Astra Comes With To Show What Style and Pleasure

ecotechOpel‘s latest 1.4-liter engine is called ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo and will celebrate its debut in the latest Opel Astra at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, held this September. In its core this is a four-cylinder turbocharged machine, that comes with a special direct injection system and will be available with two outputs: 125 hp (92 kW) and 150 hp (110 kW). As you also noticed, this combination is similar to the recently introduced 1.0-ECOTEC Direct Injection, geared with Opel ADAM and Corsa models. We can even say, that the 1-4-liter ECOTEC is sort of the big brother of the 1.0 version. Furthermore, both engines are part of the small gasoline engine family: this is a lineup of advanced engines with three and four cylinders and trunks below 1.6 liters. This lineup plays important role in today’s Opel plans for development, as the lineup contains 17 engines.

The Latest Opel ECOTECH engine is a pleasure to the ears and for the purse

    ecotech

Opel team paid a lot of attention to improve the dynamics and responsiveness of the unit. Now, the ECOTECH unit provides between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm: incredible torque plateau. Further improvements were also made onto the efficiency rates of the powerplant. Now it delivers not that bad emissions, measured at 114g/km and consumes about 5 liters of gasoline for every 100 km (62 miles). And this is not all. Engineers have also paid attention to the reduction of the noise volume, coming from the engine, that now purrs like a little kitten. But beware! The kitten can instantly become a furious tiger if you dare to step properly on the gas pedal!

  • Vauxhall Astra is here! First Official Pictures and Data Released

2015 Vauxhall Astra Side View 2015 Vauxhall Astra is unleashed! The company has finally released the first official photos of the car and detailed data revealing a lot ahead of its official premiere in Frankfurt this September. There are a lot of exiting facts about it. First, the new Astra is about 200kg lighter than outgoing model. Although it is smaller on the outside, Vauxhall says that it is bigger on the inside.

In addition, the engine range now features the 145PS 1.4-liter petrol unit. Another interesting fact is that this is the first Vauxhall ever to feature OnStar technology. There is also an IntelliLink R 4.0 that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    Lightweight Design

This is actually the seventh generation of the Astra model which is scheduled for production later this year. Depending on the trim level, the new car sheds an average of 130kg and up to 200kg, when compared with its predecessor. Major role for this plays the new architecture of the car.

SEE ALSO: Opel Corsa Gets 150 hp Turbo Engine

Every component of it was made of lightweight materials like the high- and ultra-high-strength low-weight steels. The compact subframes and the weight reductions to the front and rear axle also play crucial role.

    Drivetrains

The powertrain portfolio of the model features petrol and diesel units with power output ranging from 100PS to 200PS. The star here is the new petrol 1.4-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo unit, which not only generates more than 145 PS but also 250Nm, available between 1,800rpm and 4,000rpm.

The base level engine is the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo petrol with 105 PS, and the diesels are based on the 1.6 CDTi ‘Whisper Diesel’ with output range from 110PS up to 160PS.

    Exterior Design

The design of the 2015 Vauxhall Astra is based on the Monza Concept. The car actually looks better than ever with its athletic and imposing stance. At the front we see how the front IntelliLux LED Matrix Light headlamps flow into the radiator grille, but the most significant design cue can be seen on the sides where the divided C-pillar creates the impression of a floating roof.

As mentioned, the seventh generation Astra is smaller on the outside, but bigger inside. It has a total length of 4.37m making it 5cm shorter than its predecessor. The height is 1.46m, which is also 2.6cm lower.

    Interior Design

Although the wheelbase has been reduced by 2cm, the amount of space inside was increased. This is due to the implementation of the newly-designed seats, which allow the rear passengers the experience of additional 35mm legroom.

The instrument panel features clean look and includes large colour touchscreen in the centre stack and a reduced amount of control switches and buttons.

At last, the OnStar is going to be featured for the first time in a Vauxhall, while the IntelliLink – in an Astra. The latter is an infotainment system which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

  • A Combination of two Universes: Opel ADAM Will Come with Easytronic 3.0

With the best possible balance between economics and sporty comfort, the Opel ADAM with Easytronic 3.0 is ready for its debut. Opel’s mini will demonstrate the latest generation of automated manual transmission and lots of exciting features at the Istanbul Motor Show from May 22-31. In fact, the ADAM comes with compact design, that is lighter, dynamic and comfortable.

The Easytronic 3.0 itself is an automated manual transmission system, which means, that it is based on a manual gearbox, but has two different modes. When the automatic mode is selected, the electro-hydraulic actuator takes over the shifting operations. This all results on automatic selection of the most efficient gear for the moment. How cool is that? On half-automatic mode, the driver shifts gears manually by pulling or pushing the gearshift.

Furthermore, the special transmission system reduces the fuel consumption and brings even better control and dynamics on the road. Especially in urban driving.  Working in perfect harmony with the  87 hp (64 kW) 1.4-Liter engine, the Easytronic 3.0 lowers the fuel consumption by 0.1 liters per 100 km. The latest generation of Easytronic systems also delivers and more comfort of driving. The car comes with quicker and smoother gear shifts, that are made possible by the improved sensor and control technology.

  • Irmscher Conquers Auto Shanghai with Custom Insignia

Irmscher Opel Insignia Front and Side ViewAt the Shanghai Motor Show we have seen the debut of very odd vehicles. And I am not talking about those we have written about. We are all familiar with the copy-cat capabilities of the Chinese industry (no-offense on that) and if you try searching about the strangest vehicles at this year’s Auto Shanghai, you would be amazed. Just google it.

Nonetheless, some of the cars on display there were mind-blowing. An example for one is Irmscher’s four-door Opel Insignia. The tuning company has remodeled the body of the car in order to make a sportier model.

Take a look at the front and there you’ll see a redesigned front apron with splitter underneath, which ensures that the large vents can take enough air. Throughout the exterior there are also visible the side line side skirts and rear diffuser.

In addition, there is a rear wing for better downforce, which also displays the sports characteristics of the Insignia. A very impressive fact is that Irmscher has tested all parts in the wind tunnel and has adjusted them in resonance with car’s original aerodynamics. The exterior tuning is rounded out by a special color graphics and 20-inch the Turbo Star alloys.

At last, the tuner is offering an optional performance upgrade for Insignia’s range of engines. Sitting at the top of the range, the most powerful updated unit produces 370 hp, which equals 279 kW.

  • Corsa OPS is Ready to Hit the Road

Opel Corsa OPCAfter the incredible positive feedback, the Corsa OPC is ready for the road. This is the fastest member of the Corsa lineup and mixes incredible sporty character and wonderful adaptive body, suitable for every track. The almost four-meter long vehicle demonstrates a high-torque engine, that brings 207 hp (152 kW). In fact the sporty style doesn’t affect the interior in any way. The cabin is still comfortable and brings further pleasure of driving.

The Corsa’s design catches the eye with the redesigned and large air intakers, the exclusive paint and wonderful lines, that connect to the back of the car.

The rear really continues the sporty affair, by the overall flamboyant vision. The tailpipes and exhaust systems, add even more drama to the beautiful looks.

The interior comes with Recaro performance seats, leather steering wheel, OPC gear knob and especially designed pedals. The inside of the Corsa is a really comfortable place, despite the overall sporty character.

Under the hood you will find a wonderful 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, that delivers 207 hp (152 kW) and a maximum torque of 245 Nm. This is a front-wheel-drive car and is geared with a six-speed transmission, that is especially designed for short and fast shifts. The Corsa OPS goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds. The top speed is 230 km/h (127 mph).

One of the main changes in the OPS Corsa is the especially developed chassi, that brings the Fequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology. As the name suggests, the system adapts to the overall frequency of the car and creates wonderful balance between comfort and flexibility.

And this is not all! For people, who want even greater sporty feel, Opel offers the Corsa OPC Performance Pack. It includes 18-inch wheels, Michelin tires, different chassis set-up. The pack also includes with high-performance brake system.

  • Opel ADAM ROCKS S: Cute or Masculine?

Opel Adam Rocks S Back and Side ViewOpel’s sporty mini-crossover is going to debut at the AutoRAI in Amsterdam on 17th of April. ADAM ROCKS S is cute, but at the same time it has this masculine appearance. And thanks to the Swing Top canvas roof it is ready for adventure. Powered by the 1.4-liter turbo ECOTEC engine, it is capable of 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque.

Due to the Start/Stop function the engine is not only potent but also efficient because it uses 5.9 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. This equates to 139 g/km of CO2. The unit also comes fitted with a short ratio 6-speed gearbox, which contributes for the 0-100 km/h acceleration sprint to happen in mere 8.5 seconds. Top speed is 210 km/h.

With this performance the car needed some other sport tweaks. For instance, the chassis has been lowered by 15 mm compared to the ADAM ROCKS version. It is also equipped with a direct sporty steering and a high performance braking system and an ESP system.

Furthermore, the vehicle stands firmly on the road due to the wide front and rear tracks that measure 1,472 and 1,464 mm, respectively. The other special sportswear that needs to be mentioned comprises of an extended rear bumper, aggressive exhaust tailpipe and a rear spoiler planted on the roof.

At last, the car is also fitted with wide range of technology features like the Advanced Park Assist, Side Blind Spot Alert and the IntelliLink infotainment system. That’s nice, isn’t it? And if the price is reasonable, I bet this car will be a big hit in Europe.

The unit is coupled with a six-speed transmission that drives the front wheels.

Although this engine is more powerful than the Corsa 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo with only 115 hp, it shows great efficiency. The car needs only 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. If you wonder about the CO2 emissions, they are 136 g/km.

In addition, this particular Corsa will be offered in two trim choices: the so called Color Edition and the INNOVATION. There is also a Turbo Plus Package that offers additional equipment which is similar to the OPC version of the car.

To go into details, inside the Color Edition one will find wide range of standard features such as aluminum sports pedals and in the rear – a darkly tinted Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing.
