  • Switzer Goliath Nissan GT-R

Switzer is one of the most appreciated tuning companies in the world. They have has been focused on cars that delivered blistering performance without sacrificing the comfort or reliability.

Switzer created a tuned Nissan GT-R capable of doing 9-second times at drag race or other, which as covered almost 100,000 miles since its conversion from a stock, 475 hp early GTR to an 800 hp Switzer P800.

The conversions are relatively cheap compared to the achieved performance. Still, a lot more can be done, so people ask themselves: “What if I want to push the limits? What if I don’t want to be conservative?”

The GT-R Goliath was built to explore the limits of Switzer’s package architecture, building off of the same hardware upgrades as the Ultimate Street Edition, as well as the same intercoolers, plumbing, and exhaust hardware used in the USE, as well as the P700, P800, and record-breaking R1K-X Switzer GTRs.

Keep in mind, this is not some chopped-up dyno-queen car. Grinding or welding on the chassis was not permitted, so Goliath’s firewall, frame rails, and power steering systems are totally intact.

The factory AC system is completely intact, and “is a must”, according to Switzer … which makes sense, considering how many of these cars end up in extreme climates.

“At the end of the day,” says Tym, “this is still a drivable streetcar, albeit at the limits of what most people would tolerate in real-world traffic. It’s an exercise in how far you can take a streetcar, which is what this customer wanted, even after I explained the risks and the process. The only ‘race stuff’ in the car is the fuel. In this case, it’s Q16. I’d have preferred something a little more ‘green’, like E85, but that would have been too hard for the car’s owner to source locally. So, only the fuel is ‘race’, really, but that doesn’t mean Goliath is for everyone. It’s not the no-excuses, Veyron-baiting, liter-bike chasing super car. That’s the Ultimate. Goliath … Goliath is just a monster. It’s the limit of how far we can push our GTR package hardware, so it shows the value in those packages as ‘building blocks’ to something bigger.”

So, the result: over 1500 WHP (wheel-horse-power), which is around 2000HP from the engine.

  • Exclusive: Vilner Reveals a Starry Sky Nissan GT-R

Vilner-Nissan-GT-R-Starry-Sky-THUMBJust ahead of the winter holidays, the Bulgarian tuning company Vilner is making a big Christmas gift to the readers of automobilesreview.com by revealing exclusively and only for them their new and absolutely breath-taking work on Nissan GT-R.

Vilner Nissan GT-R is definitely a very unique project. And this is not only because of the exquisite work and craftsmanship of the professionals, but also because of the “starry sky” ceiling that it includes. Few other cars have the same feature, and as a matter of fact this is the fist car in the tuning history to include such one.

In general the materials used in the interior in this project are the finest leather and Alcantara in black and crimson colors. The seats are mainly in black but include red bands on their borders. Furthermore, another accent here that catches the eye is the red stitching which creates rhomboid forms.

The same motive is seen on the panel, steering wheel, doors and ceiling. And as soon as one looks up to the latter, they see a “starry sky”. This amazing effect was the initial client’s wish and was achieved with the mounting of LED’s.

Under substantial transformation underwent all of the plastic elements that could be found in this Nissan. Originally they were in different shades of gray, but after the modification they shine exquisitely thanks to the Black Piano Varnish applied on them.

If one is familiar with the work of Vilner, they must definitely know that the specialist from the tuning team pay a lot of attention to the details. Here they haven’t forgotten this philosophy and have even wrapped the rearview mirror in Alcantara. Next, the steering wheel was individually modified and now includes elements in Black Piano Varnish.

As it concerns the edges of the door panels and the center console, here one can see red bands which give the GT-R additional sport spirit and visual stance. According to client’s wish, there were also added an iPAD and a stand for it.

  • Petrolicious: San Francisco Skyline [VIDEO]

DOF-SF-SKylines-THUMBIvan Jaramillo is the main character in the latest video of Petrolicious, besides his Nissan Skylines of course. For him driving is all about exhilaration and appreciating the moment. In fact, when he is in one of his Skylines he leaves all the problems aside and all that he does is to “feel” the driving excitement.

An important part of the experience is also listening to the car and the sound of the engine. And as a matter of fact Ivan says that there isn’t anything else in the world that can be compared with their sound.

Another benefit of owning such cars is that it draws people’s attention, and even if they don’t know anything about it still provokes excitement of seeing it. The aggressive exterior design undoubtedly contributes towards this.

In other words, everything resolves around the passion, depth, and love that this man has for its Skylines. This video portrays the enthusiasm and adoration which these remarkable cars create. But enough talk, check it out for yourself!

  • Advice on buying a sat-nav for a used car

Sat-navs really are a handy device that I think all drivers – regardless of their level of experience or the kind of car they own – should look to have. Although these products are now often built-in to new high-end vehicles, if you’re buying a slightly older second-hand, you may find you have to purchase one separately.

Even if you have been driving for many years, I can’t stress enough the importance of getting a good-quality sat-nav. After all, nobody wants to get lost while on the road – particularly when they’re driving to a destination for the first time or have an urgent appointment they cannot be late for – so the assistance such items provide will be vital.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that these devices can also help to make sure you’re in the right lane when approaching junctions, provide directions to amenities such as petrol stations and alert you to where speed cameras are located. Of course, the particular features that you can use will depend on the particular model you buy, so you should consider what you want from a device and which facilities you’re most likely to use on a regular basis before you make a purchase. With that in mind, here are some of the devices that I think are worth considering for drivers of all budgets and backgrounds.

    Garmin nuvi 2515

If you want an affordable sat-nav, the Garmin nuvi 2515 is certainly worth considering. Although it is not as expensive or feature-laden as some of other devices in the company’s range, it still has everything you need to help you reach your destination.

Featuring a 5-inch touchscreen and pre-loaded maps of the UK and Ireland, the gadget comes with Garmin’s trafficTrends technology, a service that calculates your route based on estimated traffic flow levels.

Other services include park position recall technology (a feature designed to help you locate where you parked your car) and built-in Bluetooth, which enables you to sync the sat-nav with your phone so you can make hands-free calls.

    TomTom Via 135

The TomTom Via 135 also allows hands-free calls to be made, while gadget-loving drivers may be interested in the fact it enables icons and text descriptions to be added to the destinations they drive to the most.

If you choose this device, you can get alerts to tell you when you’re approaching a speed camera, while the foldaway mount makes it easy to attach the sat-nav to your car’s windscreen.

    Navman Tourer

Finally, I think the Navman Tourer is a great choice of sat-nav for those who often take long trips, partially because it includes features such as 3D junction views and speed limit alerts.

It also comes with a Choice of Routes service that allows you to preview what the fastest, shortest, easiest and most economical directions for you to take are, before selecting the one that is right for you. Buy this sat-nav and you’ll not onlys access maps for roads in the UK, but you can also plan routes for dozens of European countries. France, Portugal and Germany are just three of the countries whose roads and motorways information are included on the device, so it’s perfect if you often take your car overseas.

Whether you own asecond-hand Nissanor some other car, I can’t stress enough how useful sat-navs are, but what are your experiences of using these devices? Please leave a comment and let us know!
