  • Nissan TeRRA SUV Concept debuts in Paris

Nissan TeRRA SUV Concept is going to be unveiled the Paris Motor Show in the end of this month. The new concept vehicle is going to show the visitors that it is a perfect combination of an SUV and EV.

In addition it has an innovative 4×4 fuel-cell electric powertrain and an athletic exterior. This Nissan is designed as a functional and flexible choice in order to bring eco-friendliness along with a secure driving feel under any road conditions.

The new SUV comes in pack with big tyres, high belt-line, thick pillars and thin side windows. However, it also retains the slender waist and a sculptured bonnet of brands popular design philosophy.

For example, the sharp corners, short overhangs and sculptured lamps lead to a clean and confident presence. An aerodynamically flat body pan in addition is what grabs the attention immediately.

Nevertheless, the tough exterior isn’t continued as a theme in the interior. The door panel is a sculpted fusion of blond wood trim and colored acrylic, layered in an intriguing pattern.

At shoulder height one can see a metal frame. The wood-metal contrast continues across the dashboard, a beechwood-acrylic fusion that exudes soft warmth.

One of the most eye-catching features in this concept is the unique instrument cluster, which consists of electronic tablet. The latter is utilized as an “intelligent key”, which the driver docks when entering the car and removes it when leaving.

TeRRA’s driver seat is positioned almost in the centre in a unique diagonal layout. This positions the rear passengers over the shoulders of those in front, rather than directly behind.

A hexagonal motif can be seen carried through various aspects of the inteiror design. Another impressive innovation here is that when the passenger seats are folded down, the boot floor is completely flat, presenting no obstacles to carrying bikes, kayaks.

The TeRRA also is envisioned with another unique feature – a 4×4 fuel cell electric powertrain. The front wheels are powered by an electric propulsion system currently featured in the Nissan LEAF.

In each back wheel on the other hand, is an in-wheel electric motor, based on the working prototypes featured in three successive PIVO concepts. Given that no drive shafts are required to power the rear wheels, there is no hump in the floor or on the underbody.

More importantly, the concept SUV is powered by Nissan’s hydrogen fuel cell stack: a flat, highly compact unit that includes world-leading power density of 2.5kW/L. And although a purely concept car, we are definitely excited to see it as a mass-production vehicle!

  • Nissan GT-R AMS Alpha 12+ vs Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R

Usually we know that the motorcycles are extremely fast and especially, when matched to ordinary cars. However, the highly tuned Nissan GT-R AMS Alpha 12+ is not an ordinary car and it manages to beat a lot of superfast bikes including this brand new Kawasaki ZX-14R, which also has minor upgrades.

The GT-R AMS Alpha 12+ is running on regular 93 octane gasoline, but still has more than 1000WHP (1200+ HP). It rolls Toyo 888R tires, which hardly can get any traction at low speeds.

The Kawasaki ZX-14R comes with modified sports exhaust system boosting the engine to 220HP (195 WHP), which is also a lot, because the bike is superlight.

Still, the GT-R is way faster than the mighty ZX-14R as you will see in the video below.

    Enjoy!

  • GT-R EcuTeck vs 911 Proto 1000 and 911 Switzer

Dragtimesinfo has released a new video with two of the fastest cars in Russia – Porsche 911 Turbo 997 Mk.1 Proto 1000. As you may suggest, the car is boosted to one thousand HP. The second is also a Porsche, but this time a 911 Turbo tuned by Switzer having 950HP.

The first start is between 911 Proto 1000 and a lot underpowered Nissan GT-R Mk.2 Ecutek Stage 2 with “just” 670HP, which is 330HP less than the German beast. The GT-R didn’t stand a chance and finished the 1 mile race for 27.289 seconds with 300.00 km/h terminal speed, while the 911 stopped the clock at 25.377 seconds with 318.66 km/h.

The second start was between the same GT-R and 911 Turbo Switzer. Again, the Nissan is a lot underpowered, but the two cars are in same class, so everything is fair. The GT-R finished the 1 mile race in 26.656 seconds with 302.26 km/h, which is great result, but the 911 stopped the clock at 26.113 seconds with 298.44 km/h. Still, both cars are very close despite the 280HP difference.

  • 2013 Nissan Almera for Russia [video]

Nissan has officially unveiled the new 2013 Almera model at the Moscow International Motor Show. The vehicle is specially designed for Russia.

It combines exceptional roominess and genuine refinement with a robust chassis and proven drivetrain, while the design mixes contemporary Nissan styling cues with classic features to create a modern yet timeless look.

“We have ambitious expansion plans in Russia and the new Almera will play a central role in that growth,” commented François Goupil de Bouille, Managing Director, Nissan Russia.

“To create the car we have taken the best engineers from Japan, Europe and Russia and immersed them in the specific demands of the region. The new Nissan Almera is a Russian car through and through, but one which benefits from the engineering and design expertise developed by Nissan globally. It is perfectly in tune with the needs and expectations of Russian consumers,” he added.

At the front, Nissan’s familiar wide four bar grille is chromed – as are the door handles – to underline the quality image. But showing the attention to detail that has helped to create the new Almera, the chrome incorporates anti-corrosion technology which was specially developed by Nissan.

Four wide-opening doors allow easy access to the interior which is notably larger than class rivals. In fact, the rear compartment knee room is actually more generous than that offered in some premium D segment cars and is easily capable of carrying three adults in comfort. As well as providing more interior space than rivals, at 500 litres Almera’s luggage trunk is among the largest in its class.

Power comes from another tried and trusted source, Nissan’s proven 1.6-litre, 16-valve petrol engine developing 75kW (102hp) and 145 Nm of torque for competitive performance and economy. Almera will be available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

Following established Nissan practice Almera will be available in three grades: Welcome, Comfort and top-of-the-range Tekna.

Standard equipment on Comfort models, expected to be the biggest selling grade, includes remote central door locking, heated power door mirrors, fog lamps, a trip computer and height adjustment for the driver’s seat.

There are chromed accents to the air vents while the trim material is patterned. Large door mirrors are finished in body colour and the door handles and trunk finisher are chromed while the front seats are heated to provide extra comfort in winter months. Air conditioning and alloy wheels are available as options.

Top Tekna models have air conditioning as standard, along with power windows at the rear, four speakers, a leather wrapped steering wheel and 15-inch alloy wheels. The audio system is a fully integrated double-din AM/FM tuner with single disc CD player and Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones. An Aux-in jack socket to connect a MP3 player is also standard.

The sophisticated Nissan Connect communications system is available as an option on Tekna models, making Almera the only car in its class available with a fully integrated navigation system.

Nissan Connect has a five-inch full colour touch screen with 2D/3D mapping and voice guidance. Updates can be downloaded from the Internet and uploaded to the system via USB. The audio system includes a single disc CD player, an AM/FM tuner, an Aux-in jack and Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones and audio streaming.

All grades have active and passive safety features including anti-lock brakes, plus driver and front passenger airbags as standard.

The colour palette has seven exterior body colours – a solid white and six metallic shades.
