The 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V6 now delivers 600HP (441 kW). Advanced aerodynamics generating additional 100kg of downforce at 300km/h (186mph) for exceptional road-holding.

2014 GT-R Nismo boasts uncompromising engineering and motorsports-inspired technologies to achieve new levels of power, speed and handling.

“With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R Nismo holds the volume production car lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement.”, said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.

    Engine

    • Under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6 engine benefits from the know-how that Nismo has gained from participating in such events as the world-renowned Nürburgring 24 hour race. Engine power has risen and is now rated at 600PS (441kw) and 481 lb ft (652 Nm) of torque.
    • New high-flow, large capacity turbochargers, which are used for GT3 racing, improve breathing, while optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and upgraded fuel pump improve combustion.

    Chassis

    • The springs and custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers in the front and rear suspension are specially tuned to deliver exceptional grip levels and progressive handling response at the limit. Three suspension modes can be selected: Comfort, Normal and R, for circuit applications.
    • Exclusive Nismo tires – developed by Dunlop – exhibit outstanding grip and handling characteristics. Front: 255/40 ZRF20; rear 285/35 ZRF20.
    • Specially-developed links fitted to the front double wishbone suspension increase castor trail to optimize wheel position during high-G cornering and improve straight-line and cornering stability. Additionally, large high-rigidity bolts are used to increase stiffness of the wheel-hub attachment area.
    • To minimize body-roll during cornering and changes of direction, the Nissan GT-R Nismo features a 17.3 mm hollow rear anti-roll bar which raises roll stiffness while reducing weight.

    Body construction

    • Increased rigidity in the bodyshell is achieved using adhesive bonding in addition to spot welding leading to precise suspension response under extreme load, the Nismo “factory tuned” enhancement.

    2. Exterior design – Exclusive styling with improved aerodynamics

    • Using the latest Computational Fluid Dynamic simulation techniques to analyze airflow, Nismo has developed an aero package that improves road-holding, minimizes the negative impact of drag, while giving the car a menacing and muscular appearance.
    • Together, the front bumper, engine undercover strake and carbon rear spoiler increase downforce, lowering the center of gravity and generating an additional 100kg*1 (at 300km/h) compared to the freshly updated 2014 Nissan GT-R model. The car’s aerodynamic characteristics are tuned to ensure the downforce is equally spread front to rear at all speeds for progressive handling characteristics. A widened front bumper configuration and elongated yet tapered rear bumper design keep the drag to Cd 0.26, same with that of 2014 Nissan GT-R.
    • The Nissan GT-R Nismo will be available in four body colors: Brilliant White Pearl, Meteor Flake Pearl Black and Ultimate Metallic Silver. And unique to the GT-R Nismo model, a Dark Matte Grey*3accentuates the car’s imposing exterior muscularity.
    • The GT-R Nismo’s black 6-spoke wheels are inspired by Nissan’s GT-R race car which races in the GT500 class in SUPER GT.

    3. Interior

  • 2014 Nissan Juke Nismo RS – 218HP and 280Nm

Nissan has unveiled the Juke Nismo RS at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The updated model comes with minor styling upgrades, but there are a lot of performance goodies. The suspension is improved as well as the power, brakes and exhaust system.

First, the 1.6 liter DIG-T engine is boosted to 218HP (160 kW) and 280Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque – an increase of 18HP and 30Nm. For perfect traction, even the 2WD models can be ordered with a mechanical Limited Slip Differential on the driven front wheels.

An LSD is not required in four-wheel drive versions which have Torque Vectoring, Nissan’s Xtronic transmission and 250Nm of torque. Xtronic transmission models now feature standard fit steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts to control the eight-speed manual mode.

The performance gains are matched by an improved soundtrack with a retuned exhaust system providing a sportier engine note thanks to a large diameter muffler.

The suspension boasts strategic body strengthening to increase torsional stiffness. The brakes now includes 320mm front discs, while the rear discs are now ventilated. Revised spring and damper settings complete the chassis changes.

Some of the styling upgrades include red brake callipers and discreet ‘RS’ badging on the front and rear. There is also RS logo in the rev counter while a distinctive suede wrap covers the instrument binnacle. The final finishing touch inside is an unusual water print finish on the shift knob/paddle shifters and the central cluster.

The options list include special Recaro sports “bucket” seats, Xenon headlamps, Nissan’s Around View Monitor and Safety Shield which includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Moving Object Detection giving visual and audible warnings to avoid potential collisions.

  • Senner Bling the Nissan Juke Nismo

    2013-Senner-Nissan-Juke-Nismo-shadow2013-Senner-Nissan-Juke-Nismo-medium

Senner pride themselves with their work on various Nissan 350Z and 370Zs. But anything that’s worthy of the attention of Nismo is worthy of the attention of Senner. Enter the Nissan Juke Nismo – an already vicious powerhouse of aggressiveness, sportiness and testosterone.

The first thing you might notice about the Senner Juke is the prevailing black and white. It is an especially pronounced theme on the Oxigin Oxrock 14 wheels with a “white-wrap-refinement” on the rim well. We wouldn’t call it refinement though. Too flashy for our liking. The sizes: 9,5-inches wide, 20-inch diameter fitted with Continental Sport Contact 5P 255/30 tires. The whole vehicle also sits 35 mm lower to the ground with Senner’s springs

Senner haven’t really tried to improve on the Nismo aerodynamic package. Instead, they have went for small accesorizing – wind deflectors on the side windows, LED daytime running lights, LED license plate illumination and, of all things, Philips Silver Vision chromium flashing indicator bulbs.

Now to the more serious stuff. The Juke’s 1.6-liter engine has received a boost in power because of some witchcraft with the electronics and because of the brand new INJEN-Cold Air Intake module. That’s 225 hp (as opposed to 200 hp) and 275 Nm of torque (as opposed to 250 Nm).

For the appropriate soundtrack, Senner have thrown in their custom made stainless steel exhaust system with ridiculously wide end-pipes.

The whole thing, provided that you already happen to own a Nissan Juke Nismo, will cost you around $12,222. We can’t say if it’s worth it or not.

  • Public Feedback Makes Nissan IDx Freeflow IDx NISMO Reality

    2013-Tokyo-Motor-Show-Nissan-IDx-Freeflow-shadow2013-Tokyo-Motor-Show-Nissan-IDx-Freeflow-medium

If you think that the Nissan IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo on display at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show are tributes to a long-lost past of boxy cars and general sensibility, you’d be wrong. What you see before you is a product of collaboration between Nissan and the masses. The internet masses that is:

“It was designed to appeal to “digital natives,” the generation born after 1990, and integrates their feedback into the creation process. Nissan thinks this approach could have real applications in the near future.”

So no nostalgia was involved in the making of these IDx concepts (ID – identity; x – a “variable representing the new values and dreams born through communication”)? If that really is the case, then we applaud the new age thinking of simple-three box designs and “no nonsense steering wheels”. Let’s face it, these two look brilliant. Nothing too flashy, There isn’t an X-Box bolted to the dashboard and we can’t imagine there is a highly sophisticated vehicle management control somewhere in there that will keep you prisoner for weeks for trying to set the clock. No, in fact, the IDx Freeflow uses an analog clock to tell the time. One thing, however, doesn’t make sense to us – denim covers for the seats, denim patterns here and there? Must have been the work of either hipsters or of someone definitely not born in the 90s. Also, we are not sure what they mean when they say that the cabin has been designed to look like a living room. At 4.1 meters long, just 1.7 meters wide, and 1.3 meters high, the Freeflow is not what a real estate agent would call a bargain. Keep in mind that in addition to four people, the IDx Freeflow needs to accommodate an engine and a gearbox as well. The Nismo Idx, on the other hand is the more racing-oriented twin. An even more simplistic interior is ballenced out by a rather flamboyant exterior that, Nissan admit, has borrowed “liberally from memorable vehicles of yesteryear and the present”. Still, that spirit of the past is said to have come from video games rather then from the real thing.

Not that it’s relevant (because these are case studies and there are no plans for production), but Nissan say that it would be possible to mate a 1.2-to-1.5L petrol engine to one of their CVT in order to form the IDx base drivetrain – sensible, economically, revvy and smart. ‘Boo’ for not actually doing something about it at this point.

  • 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 Series for Sale

    Nissan-GT-R-Nismo-GT3-shadowNissan-GT-R-Nismo-GT3-medium

If you saw  today’s news about the Nissan Nismo GT-R and thought: “Yes, but does it conform to FIA GT3 regulations?” Well, sorry but it doesn’t. Funny you should ask, however, because here’s one that does exactly that. It’s the 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. The best thing is, you can now own it. That is if you have $397,204 laying around. And that’s without tax.

Relying on data gathered from the 2012 model, Nissan’s engineers have managed to squeeze every drop of performance from this GT-R without really breaking any rules. The timing of the camshaft has been improved, the moving components of the engine have been made even more durable and the aerodynamics have been tweaked: canards were added to the front and the front fender louvers were enlarged. The positioning of the rear wing was optimized. The bottom line is – 3.8 V6 engine with over 543 hp and 637 Nm of torque. Yes, it’s not as much as the road going Nismo GT-R, but this one weights just 1,300 kilograms (despite having a metal, 5,5-inch 4-plate clutch disk). And the tyres? 330/710-18 on all four wheels.

Nissan will only make you one once you’ve ordered it. If the orders exceed their capacity you might end up empty-handed. Time to check your bank account?

  • Nissan Nismo GT-R Revealed

    2014-Nissan-GT-R-Nismo-shadow2014-Nissan-GT-R-Nismo-medium

Hot news from Nismo, Nissan’s in-house performance division. Tingle with excitement as today was the official reveal of the latest Nissan GT-R Nismo – the fastest one to date:

“With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R Nismo* holds the volume production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement.” – says Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.

Under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine has been buffed to 600 hp thanks to GT3-grade, large diameter turbochargers, a new fuel pump, and some optimization of the ignition timing in each cylinder. The suspension also finds its roots in Nismo’s GT3 racing series. Think custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers with three settings of stiffness – Comfort, Normal and R. Surely, that lap time would not have been possible without some clever tinkering with the aerodynamics. That’s why we have a front bumper, engine undercover, and a carbon rear spoiler that add 100 kg more downforce (at 300 km/h) when compared to the stock 2014 Nissan GT-R. At the same time, the drag coefficient has remained low at Cd 0.26.

The suspension also finds its roots in Nismo’s GT3 racing series. Think custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers with three settings of stiffness – Comfort, Normal and R. At the back, a hollow anti-roll bar with a radius of 17.3 mm ensures rigidity at all times. In fact, the whole bodyshell has been stiffened up through adhesive bonding and spot welding. To round off the outside, the Nismo people have fitted four sticky Dunlop tires (front: 255/40 ZRF20; rear 285/35 ZRF20) on GT500-inspired, 6-spoked wheels. Available colors will include: Brilliant White Pearl, Meteor Flake Pearl Black, Ultimate Metallic Silver, Vibrant Red, and an exclusive for this model Dark Matte Grey. 2014-Nissan-GT-R-Nismo-medium-2

Yes, inside you find a sense of luxury thanks to the Alcantra-dressed wheel and red stitches here and there, but the carbon-fiber-backed RECARO front seats suggest that the Nismo GT-R is no joy ride. No, this car was made to beat down stopwatches to a pulp and then leave the track unapologetically on its own.
