  • MINI Expands its All-Wheel-Drive Range

MINI-Cooper-D-Paceman-THUMBMINI has just announced that it is going to expand its all-wheel-drive range (ALL4) of vehicles thus delivering more driving fun, focused experience and agile handling. In March the choice of additional models with ALL4.

That’s when the MINI Paceman will be launched featuring the ALL4 as a standard or an option. The number of models with this technology will increase up to eight. The first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium compact segment sees ALL4 optionally teaming up with the diesel engines in the Cooper SD Paceman (105 kW/143 hp) and Cooper D Paceman (82 kW/112 hp), as well as the petrol unit under the bonnet of the Cooper S Paceman (135 kW/184 hp).

In addition, MINI John Cooper Works Paceman will also be equipped with the all-wheel-drive system as standard. The model generates 160 kW/218 hp and has as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. Automatic transmission comes as an option.

As a matter of fact, ALL4 delivers boost to traction, directional stability and agility through corners. In addition, the ALL4 will be featured in the Countryman, Cooper S Countryman, Cooper SD Countryman and Cooper D Countryman as an option. On the other hand as a standard it will be included in the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.

To go further into details, the all-wheel-drive system utilizes an electromagnetic centre differential to distribute drive seamlessly between the front and rear axles. In normal driving the system diverts up to 50 per cent of the engine’s power to the rear wheels, rising to 100 per cent in extreme conditions.

ALL4’s control electronics are integrated directly into the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) management unit, enabling drive to be channelled through the wheels as required in a matter of milliseconds.

In addition it also optimizes the fuel economy. It also utilizes the data collected by DSC to tweak the power split pre-emptively and to effect through dynamically taken corners. The system feeds a higher proportion of the engine’s power to the rear wheels to make turn-in as precise as possible.

All of the models which will feature the ALL4, will also include the DSC system with DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) mode. The latter allows controlled slip through the driven wheels to ease moving off on loose sand or deep snow. What is more, those models will also have a very specific chassis set-up, which includes an inner vibration damper and delivers great acoustic and dynamic comfort.

As a matter of fact, the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works is set to give mouthwatering sporting flair and inimitable style. Its goal is to introduce a new dimension in driving fun to the premium compact segment.

The race-bred powertrain and chassis technology which are its equipment bring poise and assurance on the road. Moreover, the lowered sports suspension and an aerodynamic kit add to the irresistible feeling of race competition to the driver and occupants.

John Cooper Works Paceman’s driving characteristics and design deliver instantaneous power and an unquenchable appetite for revs. The turbocharged power unit under the bonnet is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. • New Mini Paceman unveiled

2013 MINI PacemanIt won’t be long before the seventh model in the Mini range goes on sale in the UK, though it’s difficult to know what the British market will make of it. Essentially the new car, called the “Paceman”, is a Mini Countryman with three doors which Mini hopes to market as a “Sports Activity Vehicle”.

Unfortunately the Paceman isn’t all that sporty when compared to many of the larger sports utility vehicles, and it’s hard to say whether drivers will be willing to show it off, even if it is the first “Sports Activity Coupé in the premium small and compact segment”.

That’s not to say that the Paceman doesn’t look good though – inside especially it’s not dissimilar to the Countryman with its large (though not particularly garish) speedo; complete with sat nav, fuel gauge and audio. The rev counter is much more difficult to see, tucked away as it is behind the steering wheel. There’s plenty of information on show if you do crane your neck over the wheel to notice, with an odometer and a gauge for fuel economy on display.

The fuel economy is likely to be one of the major selling points for the Paceman, as it ranges from a very reasonable 46.3 mpg in the standard Cooper S, to a not too shabby 64.2 mpg in the smaller capacity diesel variant.

Sadly the Paceman needs to be cheap to run, costing as it does £18,970 for the most basic version. Road tax is not exactly inexpensive, and cheap car insurance from 123 for Irish customers are among the best available; with reasonable quotes in the UK often hard to come by.

The Paceman looks set to be somewhat rare though due to the extremely niche nature of its audience, so proper protection is absolutely essential. The good news for Mini drivers is that it’s a relatively safe vehicle, with the four wheel drive version handling particularly well even for a small car.

  • 2013 MINI Paceman – Sports Activity Coupe

MINI has added another interesting vehicle to their line-up – the Paceman is the first Sports Activity Coupe in the premium small and compact segment. The small car is has nice presence with its powerful and dynamically stretched lines. th its two doors and large tailgate, plus two full-size individual rear seats, the seventh model in the MINI family complements the elegant sportiness of its proportions with a new rendering of the familiar MINI interior.

The car is designed squarely as a four-seater, which means sports seats for the driver and front passenger are included as standard, and the pair of individual seats in the rear offer impressive shoulder room and headroom, outstanding lateral support and exceptional comfort.

Still, the Paceman offers decent load capacity of 330 litres and 1080 with rear seats folded down.

The drivetrain of the new Paceman includes powerful BMW-sourced engines and optional ALL4 AWD system. The petrol range starts with MINI Cooper Paceman with 122HP (90 kW) and ends with MINI Cooper S Paceman with 184HP (135 kW), while the diesel options are MINI Cooper D Paceman with 112HP (82 kW) and MINI Cooper SD Paceman – 143HP (105 kW).

The Sports Activity Coupe is the second model – after the MINI Countryman –which customers can order with the ALL4 all-wheel-drive system as an option.

The standard equipment of 2013 MINI Paceman includes: air conditioning, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, the Centre Rail and the radio MINI CD with AUX-IN socket.

The options list can add: a sports leather steering wheel with optional multifunction buttons and cruise control, heated seats, an electrically operated glass roof, Comfort Access, xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights and Park Distance Control.

  • 2013 MINI Countryman – Refined!

2013-MINI-Countryman-THUMBMINI Countryman appeared in the automotive world two years ago. Now it comes back equipped with all-wheel drive and benefiting from an extensive round of modifications. The spacious five-door’s MINI is now additionally improved in terms of ease of use and practicality.

To be more precise some of the modifications include newly designed rings encircling the Centre Speedo and four air vents immediately. They can be found across the board in the colour shade Carbon Black and also have an inner ring in high-gloss black or – as part of the Chrome Line Interior option – in chrome.

Furthermore, the newly designed door inserts also contribute to better comfort and practicality. For instance, remodelled door armrests deliver comfortable support for the arms, and the controls for the electric windows are now also positioned in the door trim. A full control panel is integrated into the door armrest on the driver’s side.

In addition to all these changes, the switches clustered here feature the controls for all the windows, the deactivation facility for the rear window controls and adjustment for the exterior mirrors. Another highlight is that the Countryman will come as standard with a three-seat rear bench.

Additional changes to the model line-up include range of interior colors, interior trim elements and Colour Lines, which will be announced more specifically later this year. Some of them however, include Brilliant Copper metallic and Blazing Red metallic.

An important fact to mention is that the customers are being offered a better choice of engine variants – three petrol and three diesel units. They generate outputs stretching from 66 kW/90 hp to 135 kW/184 hp. Almost all models will be equipped with six-speed automatic gearbox.

And do you remember the sporty MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, powered by the turbocharged 160 kW/218 hp engine? Well, it will go along with ALL4 all-wheel-drive system, which will be fitted as standard. The impressive efficiency of the engines and gearboxes along with extensive MINIMALISM technology will offer to any driver great balance between driving fun and fuel economy.

  • 2013 MINI Cooper JCW GP – US Price $35,950

MINI US has announced the price of the special edition JCW GP. The hot hatchback, which is able to lap the Nurburgring in just 8 minutes and 23 seconds is priced from $35,950.

The new 2012 MINI John Cooper Works GP is powered by a BMW-sourced 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 215HP (160 kW) and 280Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. This is good for 6.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) – electronically limited. In other words, the MINI JCW GP is insanely fast.

The GP variant is a little more than $5000 more expensive than the regular JCW, but it comes with a nice fully-adjustable suspension and a significant weight reduction of 55 kg (121 lb). If you think that is not very much, check the curb weight of the car – 1235 kg (2722 lb). It is always hard to reduce the weight of a small car, because it doesn’t have too many components, which can be removed or lightened.

The GP model also comes with a big brake system including huge 335 mm front brake discs, so the smallest wheels, which can be fitted, are 18”. Commenting wheels, we have to say that this car comes with special performance tires for maximum traction on the race track.

Other highlight is the GP Racing mode for ESP allowing perfect handling and tire slip, when it is needed in order to be as fast as you want.

The 2012 MINI John Cooper Works GP is not just a good car, it is a perfect toy for track days and everyday driving.

  • The Future of Fun-Cars, Oddly Shaped Coupes?

The fun-cars have gone a long way. The swinging 60s created a demand for highly impractical yet beautiful cars. It was mainly Europe that latched onto the new fashion and the car acquired a whole-new purpose. Manufacturers like Fiat, MG and many others started concentrating on small cool two-seaters and coupes and the party lasted till the early 1970s when the fuel crisis put a new emphasis on the industry and the cars had to become practical (and boring) once again.

The times have changed, so has the technology. You no longer have to build a fuel-inefficient car for it to be fun to drive. As the modern car designers become braver and braver, we see a positive tendency in the automotive market with the concept of fun-cars resurrected. Small and quirky cars are the new craze – they seem to be getting a lot of love right now from everyone, both customers and motoring journalists.

The new generation of fun-cars is very distinctive. They are mostly small 3-door hatchbacks that may appear oddly-shaped to some, but very stylish to others. They are fun to drive because sporty features are often incorporated. They usually have a bold sporty look, excellent aerodynamics, sporty color and sporty wheels. Even with their small size, fun-cars can be roomy enough to fit in four adults comfortably.

To create fun in driving, they are often fitted with small but nippy 1.4 litre to 1.6 litre petrol engines depending on the model and variant. They are available in both 5 or 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission. There are many brands playing in the newly-born category but several vehicles stand out: the Hyundai Veloster, Nissan Juke, Alfa Romeo Mito, VW Beetle and the Mini One.

A car to watch is the Hyundai Veloster. It has aggressive contour lines and an excellent interior. Beneath the bonnet is a 138 horsepower, 1.6 litre GDI Double Overhead Cam 4-cylinder engine equipped with the latest Dual Continuous Variable Valve Timing (D-VVTi) technology. It is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. Performance on the road is stellar; you can even get 40 miles to a gallon. When driving, it gives out a smooth, power-efficient force when you accelerate. Thanks to the ever increasing quality and low prices, Hyundai is one of the first choices for people looking for car finance.

    Hyundai Veloster

The Alfa Romeo Mito is another cool little vehicle worth a look. It is a small car fitted with a patented Multiair 78 horsepower, 1.4 litre entry level petrol engine. Available in Italian racing colors (red, yellow and green), the Mito is quick and fast even with the entry level engine. However, if you want it to be a little quicker off the mark, you can get the 1.6 litre Distinctive S/S 3-door model. Driving and handling is good but the passenger leg room may not be comfortable for taller passengers.

    Alfa Romeo MiTo TwinAir

Now, the VW Beetle of course is a legend. The design is classic and iconic, not to mention that it is equipped with the latest safety features. Although the VW is basically a 2-door car, it is included in the fun-car category because it is really fun to drive. The turbo-charged engine can accelerate fast enough but the fuel economy is not that good compared with the Alfa Romeo Mito. Now with the new model recently launched, the previous generation has slightly depreciated. At Creditplus car finance specialists we notice an increased demand for the previous model Beetle. We are sure you will agree when we say that this is probably one of the most fun cars you can purchase on today’s market; especially if you opt for the original Beetle.

    2012 Volkswagen Beetle

Out of all the options, the Nissan Juke stands out as a very original and quirky car. It’s the styling that makes it so desirable. What is it really? A coupe or a 4×4? In fact, it’s classified as a crossover, which means it’s a hybrid of a utility vehicle and a sporty coupe. Although the engine size of 1.6 litres don’t suggest it’s particularly quick, the small Nissan is a very dynamic car. The 1.6 Dig-T version is the one to go for if you’re looking for good times behind the wheel.

    Nissan Juke

Lastly, we have the Mini One – its predecessor experienced the previous reign of the fun-cars. It is a 3-door hatchback with entry level variants as well as a sport variant. The entry level version look almost as good as the sporty One. The difference is in the engine configuration. The entry level comes in a smaller engine while the sports variant comes in 1.6 Liter 4-cylinder DOHC engine. All in all the car looks great and drives very well – that’s why it remains one of the favourite.

    Mini One

These were the most popular models, however, other manufacturers like Fiat, Citroen and Renault are quickly catching up.
