  • New Jaguar F-PACE SVR: Performance SUV is faster, more luxurious and more refined than ever

    2021 Jaguar F-PACE SVR1

Sitting at the pinnacle of the Jaguar performance SUV range, the new F-PACE SVR is faster than ever and features motorsport-inspired exterior design, a luxurious interior and the latest connected technologies.

Jaguar SV has refined the F-PACE flagship with a range of enhancements, providing sharper responses and heightened composure to accompany the latest Pivi Pro infotainment and connectivity technologies available across the rest of the performance SUV line-up.

Michael van der Sande, Managing Director, Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations, said:“The original F-PACE SVR was incredibly characterful, well received by our customers and has gone on to become the highest-selling Jaguar SV product ever. The new version builds on this success, by making numerous detailed improvements that combine to raise the bar in the high-performance SUV segment. With a wide range of technological enhancements from our team of expert engineers and a comprehensively improved exterior and interior finish, the new F-PACE SVR is more focused, inspires more confidence and is even more captivating than ever before.”

    Pinnacle of performance
The new F-PACE SVR is available exclusively with Jaguar’s 550PS 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol engine, now with 700Nm torque – an increase of 20Nm. This uplift in torque delivers enhanced performance, with the F-PACE SVR capable of 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds), three-tenths of a second faster than before, and a top speed of 178mph (286km/h), an increase of 2mph. The powertrain now features the same torque converter used in the record-breaking Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan, to withstand the higher loads produced. As well as the improved torque and acceleration, CO2 emissions are also reduced from 281g/km to 275g/km with fuel economy now up to 23.1mpg (12.2l/100km)**.

Enabled by Jaguar’s advanced new Electronic Vehicle Architecture, dubbed EVA 2.0, the transmission and dynamics systems have also benefitted from incremental tweaks. The uprated Dynamic mode features unique tuning, delivering a focused and honed driving experience. Jaguar SV’s engineers have recalibrated the software to provide sharper throttle response, stiffen the suspension set up, optimise steering weighting and enhance the exhaust mapping. A new Dynamic Launch feature also uses driveline inertia to maintain power to the wheels during gear changes, contributing to the SVR’s sharper acceleration from a standstill. At the same time, F-PACE SVR is now more comfortable and enjoyable to drive at a relaxed pace, without compromising its high-speed dynamics, further underlining the new model’s duality of purpose.

The steering system is enhanced with a new electronic power-assistance system delivering greater immediacy, providing a heightened connection between the vehicle and driver. There is a more defined difference to the steering feel between Comfort and Dynamic modes, to give these settings more focus.

Modified tuning of the adaptive damping provides a more refined ride at low speeds, which is further improved by revised chassis bushes. This tuning change has again allowed for greater definition of the ride between Comfort and Dynamic drive settings, demonstrating the F-PACE SVR’s dual capabilities as a luxurious and refined SUV with exceptional performance available in an instant.

Drivers also benefit from improved brake feel in the new F-PACE SVR. The 395mm (front) and 396mm (rear) two-piece disc brakes are now supported by a new Integrated Power Booster which, along with a recalibration of the system, delivers a sportier and shorter brake pedal. This tuning is specific to the SVR performance flagship, while the brake system uses an electric booster, rather than a vacuum system. The improved cooling and aerodynamics of the vehicle also improve the performance of the brakes, giving the driver even greater confidence.

The 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol engine is paired with Jaguar’s ultra-responsive, smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission which delivers rapid gearshifts for effortless performance, while adapting the way power is delivered to suit the driving situations.

Paul Barritt, F-PACE SVR Chief Programme Engineer, Jaguar SV, said:“As a team, we’re incredibly proud of the F-PACE SVR, so trying to improve on the original was always going to be a difficult task. The move to Jaguar’s new Electrical Vehicle Architecture gave us the opportunity revisit the calibration of every single component, so we took the chance to fine-tune the driving experience to make it feel even more focused and even more refined. Those thousands of detail changes take the F-PACE SVR to the next level.”

Jaguar’s All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics is fitted as standard. The technology has a rear-wheel drive bias for enhanced driver engagement and performance, with predictive and reactive software that can distribute torque to the front and rear axles independently, and almost instantly, to provide greater control and stability in low traction conditions. The retuned rear Electronic Active Differential delivers enhanced performance and greater confidence when required.

Adaptive Dynamics suspension technology ensures a precise, dynamic set-up coupled with a supple ride. In order to achieve this, the technology constantly analyses acceleration, steering, throttle and brake pedal inputs. Height sensors at each corner of the vehicle measure the vertical body movement, roll and pitch 100 times a second, while steering inputs are measured 500 times a second. Adaptive Dynamics uses these inputs to continually adjust the damper stiffness to maximise comfort and control.

Configurable Dynamics provides enhanced driver appeal by enabling the driver to set up the vehicle to suit their personal preferences, with a choice of Comfort or Dynamic settings applied to the throttle mapping, gear shift points, steering effort and suspension. A stopwatch, G-Meter and pedal graph also help the driver to monitor performance in Dynamic mode while Adaptive Dynamics continuously adjusts the dampers for enhanced comfort and refinement depending on road and driving conditions.

The new F-PACE chassis now supports the introduction of the latest JaguarDrive Control and new Auto Vehicle Hold function. JaguarDrive Control features Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow and Dynamic modes, which can be chosen manually by the driver based on the road conditions. The settings, selected through a new rotary dial next to the all-new Drive Selector, optimise the F-PACE SVR’s steering, transmission, throttle and (when specified) Adaptive Dynamics settings accordingly.

Auto Vehicle Hold provides added convenience and smoother operation than conventional Automatic Hill Hold. The new technology holds the brakes for an unlimited period of time when stationary on a gradient, only releasing the brakes when the driver depresses the accelerator to drive away.

    Purposeful race-inspired exterior
The design of the new F-PACE SVR is inspired by SV’s motorsport experience, with enhanced airflow and aerodynamic benefits delivered through new apertures and vents for improved powertrain and brake cooling. The changes deliver superior aerodynamic performance including 35 per cent reduced lift and drag reduced from 0.37Cd to 0.36Cd. As well as the performance enhancements, these elements also provide a more purposeful aesthetic.

Surrounding the new SVR-badged grille, the revised bumper design features X-shape and blade-like elements intersecting the lower side air vents and intakes. An enlarged lower intake improves airflow, to cool the F-PACE SVR’s 550PS powertrain. While the new-look design delivers performance benefits, it also provides a more athletic appearance by visually lowering the front of the vehicle.

The larger aperture is framed by enlarged side vents, which help to direct air to the wheelarches for enhanced brake cooling. The openings are finished with a grille mesh design inspired by the record-breaking Jaguar XE SV Project 8, reflecting the lineage of high-performance Jaguar SV models. A new stretched diagonal blade element feeds further airflow to the brakes and engine, and adds to the dynamic stature of the vehicle, giving the F-PACE SVR a wider and lower stance.

New diagonal blades below the lower bumper, shaped in partnership with the SV aerodynamics team, ensure every design detail has a functional purpose, while also helping to visually plant the F-PACE SVR closer to the road.

The super-slim all-LED quad headlights with ‘Double J’ Daytime Running Light (DRL) signatures are available with optional Pixel LED technology* and deliver increased resolution and brightness. Adaptive Driving Beam capability* evaluates the road ahead and automatically adapts the high beam light to mask oncoming traffic or traffic signs, the system can create varying light beam patterns by selecting different LED segments to optimise visibility and minimise risk of distracting other drivers.

The new front-end design is finished by a longer bonnet design which features a wider power bulge flanked by air vents to help extract hot air from the engine bay.

New slimline rear lights feature Jaguar’s trademark double chicane graphic – first seen on the all-electric I-PACE – which accentuate the width of the vehicle. The new look is completed with the addition of the updated SVR logo, while quad tailpipes feature in the lower bumper, giving a visual reminder of the performance potential on offer.

The new F-PACE SVR is also available with a new 22-inch forged alloy wheel design. The five-spoke design is finished in Gloss Black with Satin Grey inserts, with the grey tone matching other exterior finishes on elements such as the side air vents and wheel arch trim, for a stealth-like appearance. This is all finished off with the new SVR logo printed on the wheel.

    Precision crafted interior
The interior of the new F-PACE SVR is comprehensively redesigned, with materials enhanced to heighten the dynamic character of the revised cabin and its controls.

  • Hagerty asks what road pricing could mean for the classic vehicle community

    Hagerty2

Hagerty is best known as a classic vehicle insurer, but with a 600,000-member strong Drivers Club, an 800,000-circulation printed magazine and 1.5m subscribers on YouTube they are one of the world’s largest automotive lifestyle brands.

McKeel Hagerty, Hagerty CEO, is a lifelong car enthusiast, restoring his first classic car, a 1967 Porsche 911S, aged just 12. As a result of that passion Hagerty has always been there for the classic vehicle community and champions the statement – Hagerty exists to save driving.

Hagerty UK regularly shines a spotlight on challenges faced by classic vehicle enthusiasts, from E10 fuel to the damage caused by government-led scrappage schemes. Now Hagerty UK reports on road pricing and the affects this could have for classic vehicle owners in the future.

At the last count, there were more than 20 toll roads in the UK, including 18 river crossings, but also the M6 toll road and congestion road pricing in Durham and London. UK motoring taxes raise almost £40 billion a year, 70 per cent of it in fuel tax. In the last 20 years, fuel duty had dropped from 2.2 per cent of gross domestic product to 1.3. And it will drop to effectively zero as the government heads to ‘net zero carbon emissions” by 2050.

Road pricing isn’t just about money, congestion is also a factor. In 2018, transport consultant INRIX published a report showing the average British driver spent 178 hours stuck in jams a year, costing each one £1,317 in lost time, which annually loses the British economy £7.9 billion.

Classic and many modern classic cars don’t have connectivity, some don’t even have electrics to speak of, which means to make something like a national road-pricing scheme work, owners of cars without the necessary communication equipment will have to carry a tracker or pay up front before driving their cars – or we adopt nationwide automatic numberplate recognition technology. While proponents of road pricing point out that mobile telephones, fitness trackers and even credit cards monitor our movements, there is a general unease with the idea of tracking our every journey.

“We might have bigger fish to fry with this issue,” says Wayne Scott spokesman for the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC), “such as how we get fuel after 2030 and whether it will still be made.”

That said, however, the general assumption is that since classic vehicles registered before 1980 are exempt from road tax and the requirement to have an annual MoT test (if more than 40-years old), they could well be exempt from road pricing as well.

“That’s what you might expect,” says Scott, “especially as classic vehicles are responsible for less than 0.2 per cent of all road miles, but we are very keen to be seen as paying our way and not an exception as that might affect our freedom to drive on the roads.”

The Queen’s Highway is a peculiarly precious idea in British Society; freedom of movement and association have been hard won in our society and are not easily or simply returned back to our masters. Do we really want to establish such an overwhelming level of surveillance and control by governments as well as the sheer embuggerance and cost of road pricing?

The full report can be viewed on the Hagerty UK website

Lee Mathewson, Vice President of International Insurance Products and Managing Director of Hagerty UK concludes “There are many factors affecting the classic car world, not least the planned phasing out of new combustion driven vehicles in 2030, and now road pricing. The UK classic car industry is misunderstood, far from being old and decrepit it is modern and dynamic and adapts fast to provide innovative ways for owners to enjoy their vehicles in an ever-changing world. Hagerty champions the cause for the classic motorist and will continue to do all we can to protect the industry and keep classic vehicles on the road.”

    • 300PS MHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, nine-speed automatic, AWD
    • 309PS PHEV 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD

The advanced 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is the latest member of the modular, flexible Ingenium engine family, and is available in E-PACE with PHEV technology.

The lightweight new aluminium engine – 33kg lighter than the four-cylinder – delivers strong performance and refinement with low levels of friction which contribute to excellent efficiency and fuel consumption. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the aluminium cylinder head, this contributes to the rapid warm-up times and minimises the distance from the exhaust ports to the turbocharger’s turbine wheel for improved responses.

The new P300e PHEV powertrain combines the 200PS 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine and a 109PS (80kW) Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) motor. This ensures impressive performance and efficiency, with 0-60mph in 6.1seconds (0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds), CO2 emissions of 44g/km and fuel economy up to 141mpg (2.0 l/100km) (WLTP TEH combined).

The compact ERAD motor is powered by a 15kWh lithium-ion battery located under the boot floor. When fully charged it provides up to 34 miles of all-electric range, enabling the new E-PACE PHEV to complete the average UK daily commute, to and from work, of 18.8 miles in EV mode without requiring a recharge***.

On the four-cylinder petrol and diesels, the MHEV system uses a Belt integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) in the engine bay to harvest energy usually lost when slowing and braking, which is then stored in a 48V lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear loadspace. It is able to redeploy the stored energy to assist the engine when accelerating and delivers a more refined and responsive stop/start system.

Dirk Lorenz, Chief Product Engineer, Jaguar, said: “The new Jaguar E-PACE is available with a comprehensive choice of powertrains to suit any requirement while the new Premium Transverse Architecture ensures the exceptional performance, ride, handling and comfort expected from a Jaguar.”

The new E-PACE is also available with the next-generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel and the latest 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol powertrains, paired with MHEV technology, AWD and nine-speed automatic transmissions.

The 163PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel MHEV produces 380Nm, with CO2 emissions from 167g/km and fuel economy up to 44.3mpg (6.4 l/100km). The 204PS MHEV produces 430 Nm and is capable of covering 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds (0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds) while returning up to 43.9mpg (6.4 l/100km) with CO2 emissions from 169g/km*.

    Also available in six-speed manual transmission, FWD-only form is a 163PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel non-MHEV engine with CO2 emissions from 158g/km and fuel economy up to 46.9mpg (6.0 l/100km)*.

The latest powertrain features a selection of advanced engine technologies to enhance refinement and efficiency, including high strength steel pistons for the first time. They reduce friction while a variable vane turbocharger and the new 2,500 bar piezo common rail injection system, which delivers even finer control of fuel delivered into the cylinders, also optimise efficiency.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine is available in three power outputs, all featuring MHEV technology. The 200PS version produces 320Nm of torque and will complete 0-60mph in up to 8.0 seconds (0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds), while the 249PS, 365Nm powertrain will complete the same 0-60mph benchmark in up to 7.0 seconds
    (0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds).

Heading up the petrol engine range is the 300PS variant. Available exclusively in the 300 SPORT, it produces 400Nm of torque delivering 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds).

The advanced powertrain features the latest engine technologies including intelligent Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL), which works alongside Variable Cam Timing (VCT) and an electric supercharger supported by a twin scroll turbocharger for a strong combination of refined performance and efficiency.

    Chassis and transmission
Significant updates to the body architecture of the new E-PACE deliver enhanced dynamics, comfort and convenience. The new Premium Transverse Architecture features new engine mounts, which contribute to an improvement in throttle response.

The new architecture also provides improved front suspension attachment point stiffness, delivering a more comfortable ride while retaining trademark Jaguar agility. The structure reduces vibration and harshness across the whole cabin, making it a tranquil sanctuary for all occupants, while also reducing cabin noise for enhanced comfort and refinement.

The majority of models feature Jaguar’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system, with three-cylinder AWD models mated to eight-speed automatic transmissions, four-cylinder models using nine-speed automatic transmissions. Ratios are closely-spaced for immediate response, with manual control facilitated by using the zinc-alloy steering wheel shift paddles for added driver engagement. A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard on the front-wheel-drive 163PS diesel derivative.

The new E-PACE’s AWD system utilises second generation ‘Standard Driveline’ technology, which automatically distributes the torque between the front and rear wheels to ensure traction is always maximised.

For the first time, Standard Driveline features Driveline Disconnect technology. During steady state cruising, the setup disengages the AWD system, sending power only to the front axle, delivering increased fuel efficiency.

Exclusive to the 300 SPORT, Jaguar’s second-generation Active Driveline AWD system delivers accomplished all-wheel traction with trademark dynamic capability.

Like the Standard Driveline setup, the Active Driveline AWD system is able to transfer torque between the front and rear axles. Further to this, at the rear axle, two independent electronically-controlled wet-plate clutches are able to distribute torque across the rear wheels, with the capability to direct 100 per cent of that torque to either rear wheel in 100 milliseconds (0.1 seconds).

All E-PACE models have Jaguar Drive Control featuring Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow (on FWD models) and Dynamic modes, which can be chosen manually by the driver based on the road conditions. • Pristine Jaguar e-type series 1 takes you back to the factory floor

    PRISTINE JAGUAR E-TYPE1

Ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type in 2021, E-Type UK is pleased to offer this extremely early Series 1 that perfectly exemplifies the fascinating developments hidden with the first E-type design – Chassis 875407.

Chassis 407 is the 407th left-hand-drive roadster to have rolled off the production line, and the 21st model built after the final outside bonnet locker E-type. Today seen finished in a heritage correct Opalescent Gunmetal over Red interior with French Grey hood, fully restored, this early Series 1 E-Type retains the same beautiful shine that it did when it rolled off the production line in August 1961.

What makes Chassis 407 so desirable is the level of early and original features, which include flat floors, spot welded-in louvers, two-piece door skins, correct double hinges and single drain hole of the boot, the extremely sought after Butlers number plate lights and of course the pumpkin-colored cylinder head. So significant is this E-Type, that it is frequently referred to in the ‘Jaguar E-type Six-Cylinder Originality Guide’ by Dr. Haddock & Dr Mueller, a well-known E-Type bible for true enthusiasts.

From new, it was exported to Jaguar Cars in New York before being sold to an owner in Ohio and is believed to have spent the next 45 years in the Mid-West, including a full restoration by its owner in 1981. Completed with input from Jaguar Cars, including original factory records, the car was returned to as-new condition.

A later trip to Dubai to what was registered to be the third owner in 2015, saw the E-type treated to a full strip-down of the chassis to bring new life to the heritage combination of Opalescent Gunmetal, red interior and French Grey mohair hood.

Whilst maintaining the breathtaking red leather interior – adding originality to the vehicle – the Series 1 also underwent several reliability upgrades, including a new aluminum radiator and power steering, adding a new level of drivability to this stunning vehicle.

Complete with its original 3.8L straight-six – one of the most iconic engines of all time –, this ultimate driving machine combines classic performance with modern upgrades for a truly memorable driving experience.

E-Type UK Founder, Marcus Holland said: “This is a fine example of an early Series 1 E-Type that has been incredibly well maintained by each of its owners. As we enter a very important anniversary year for the E-Type, it’s a real privilege to have Chassis 407 in our showroom. These early E-Types are very nearly the purest translation of the original engineers’ and designers’ vision, and they hold a very important place in automotive history.”

The heightened luxury and attention to detail inside the F-PACE with seamlessly integrated state-of-the-art technologies ensure both driver and passengers feel a real sense of occasion whenever they get in the vehicle.”

The new Drive Selector – just one of the many beautiful details – features an upper section finished with ‘cricket-ball’ stitching, the lower part is made of precision-engineered metal for enhanced tactility.

New door casings, featuring a new 360-degree grab handle, provide easier access and increased storage for drinks bottles, and other items, while the electric window switches are moved down from the top of the door roll, putting them within easier reach of occupants.

New seats feature wider cushioning, new massage functions, and enhanced coverage of the heated and cooling areas. An embossed Jaguar Leaper features on the headrests of selected models, while a set of ‘Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry’s upholstery tags highlight the brand’s heritage.

A series of advanced technologies ensure the health and wellbeing of all occupants. Cabin Air Ionisation improves interior air quality through Nanoe technology, which removes allergens and unpleasant odors. The system now also features PM2.5 filtration, which captures ultra-fine particles – including PM2.5 particulates – to improve occupant health and wellbeing.  The customer activates the system simply by pressing the ‘Purify’ button.

    Plug-in power and performance

The new F-PACE is available with the P400e PHEV** powertrain as well as the latest four-cylinder and new in-line six-cylinder petrol and diesel Ingenium engines. Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology is also available on selected engines for the first time. All
F-PACE models feature intelligent all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmissions. The full powertrain range is:

    Diesel

    • 163PS MHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
    • 204PS MHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
    • 300PS MHEV 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD

    Petrol

    • 404PS PHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD

The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder PHEV model produces a combined 404PS and 640Nm from its petrol engine and 105kW electric motor. The advanced electric motor is powered by a 17.1kWh lithium-ion battery and helps contribute to CO2 emissions from 49g/km* and fuel economy of up to 130.2mpg* as well as impressive performance figures of 0-60mph in 5.0 seconds.

When fully charged, the new P400e is capable of up to 33 miles of all-electric driving, enabling the new F-PACE PHEV to complete the average UK daily commute, of 18.8 miles*** to and from work, in EV mode without requiring a recharge. Fast Charging (32kW DC) is capable of delivering 0-80 percent charge in 30 minutes while a domestic 7kW wall box can provide a charge of 0-80 percent in as little as one hour 40 minutes.

Advanced MHEV technology, available on the four- and six-cylinder diesel engines and featured on the six-cylinder petrol powertrain, use a Belt integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) to harvest energy usually lost when slowing and braking. This energy is then stored in a separate 48V lithium-ion battery before being intelligently redeployed to assist the engine when accelerating away, as well as delivering a more refined stop/start system.

With MHEV technology, the next-generation 163PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine achieves CO2 emissions from 163g/km* and fuel economy of up to 45.4mpg*.

The in-line six-cylinder 300PS diesel engine delivers strong performance from low speeds while returning fuel economy of up to 38.1mpg* and CO2 emissions from as low as 194g/km*. As well as the competitive efficiency, performance is just as impressive with 0-60mph covered in just 6.1 seconds.

The new diesel engine meets stringent emissions targets, including Euro 6d-Final, thanks to a raft of advanced technologies – series sequential turbos and an advanced after-treatment system make it one of the leading diesel in the world.

For petrol customers, the 400PS 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine produces 550Nm of torque and features the latest engine technologies. An electric supercharger supported by a twin-scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) delivers a strong combination of refined performance and efficiency and is capable of 0-60mph in just 5.1 seconds.

Finally, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder 250PS Ingenium petrol engine produces 365Nm of torque, delivering 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and CO2 emissions from 209g/km* with fuel economy of up to 30.4mpg*.

All engines are paired with Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox, which can be controlled using the steering wheel shift paddles for added driver engagement.

Colin Kirkpatrick, Chief Product Engineer, Jaguar, said: “The new Jaguar F-PACE delivers a powertrain to suit all customers. Our next-generation PHEV system delivers great fuel efficiency and low running costs, while the all-electric range of up to 33 miles is enough to cover the daily commute for most customers. The extensive powertrain choice includes our latest Ingenium petrol and diesel engines which feature advanced technologies and provide the perfect blend of performance, refinement, and efficiency.”

All-wheel drive is standard across all F-PACE models and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics provides rear-wheel drive biased performance, with the ability to vary torque to individual axles almost instantly depending on conditions.

The new F-PACE chassis has been updated to support the introduction of the new electrified engines as well as enabling the latest JaguarDrive Control and new Auto Vehicle Hold.

The latest JaguarDrive Control features Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow, and Dynamic modes, which can be chosen manually by the driver based on the road conditions. The settings, selected through a new rotary dial next to the all-new Drive Selector, adapt the F-PACE’s steering, transmission, throttle, and (when specified) Adaptive Dynamics settings.

Auto Vehicle Hold provides added convenience and smoother operation than conventional Automatic Hill Hold. The new technology holds the brakes for an unlimited period of time when stationary on a gradient, gently releasing the brakes only when the driver depresses the accelerator to drive away.

    Cutting-edge connected technologies

The new F-PACE features Jaguar’s advanced Electronic Vehicle Architecture, dubbed EVA 2.0, which supports a range of new technologies to ensure the future-ready vehicle is always connected and always up to date.

The latest Pivi Pro infotainment technology is accessed through the all-new 11.4-inch curved glass HD touchscreen. Key benefits include enhanced clarity, the screen is three times brighter and 48% larger than the previous 10-inch screen, and the simplified menu structures allow drivers to access or view up to 90 percent of common tasks from the home screen in two taps or less.

To help drivers access vital information quickly, new F-PACE also features a new 12.3-inch HD Interactive Driver Display (standard fit on SE and HSE derivatives) with enhanced graphics and a configurable layout which can show full-screen navigation mapping with turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details. Working in conjunction with optional Head-up Display technology, new F-PACE gives drivers all the information they need with the least distraction.

The intuitive new infotainment system features Apple CarPlay® as standard and allows customers to connect two phones simultaneously via Bluetooth. Android Auto™ and Baidu CarLife are also available as standard depending on market applicability. Optional wireless device charging with phone signal booster allows occupants to fast charge their smartphones. The system also provides clearer calls through the help of an external aerial.

To enable instantaneous start-up, Pivi Pro has a dedicated power source, so is ready to use as soon as customers get behind the wheel.

The collection of new convenience technologies includes Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) capability, which ensures the performance SUV is always using the latest software. The technology means that owners don’t have to visit retailers to receive software updates for the vehicle.

Pivi Pro connectivity is provided by the latest embedded dual-sim technology with two LTE modems enabling the system to carry out multiple functions at the same time, such as streaming media and downloading SOTA updates, without compromising performance. The cutting-edge connectivity also ensures minimal interruptions caused by coverage blackspots as it roams across network providers for the strongest signal.

Segment-first Active Road Noise Cancellation technology constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the occupants. This means quieter levels within the cabin and improved refinement that helps to reduce fatigue, commonly associated with prolonged exposure to low-frequency noise. Cabin occupancy is monitored, with the system continuously optimizing performance to deliver the best possible experience for everyone. The lightweight technology ensures that vehicle weight and handling characteristics remain unaffected. Engine Noise Cancellation isolates the cabin from unwanted engine noise to further enhance the sense of tranquillity.

For enhanced convenience, an updated, second-generation wearable Activity Key can be used to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle without the need for the conventional key fob to be present in the vehicle. The rechargeable device incorporates a watch and has a battery life of up to seven days between charges.

The new Guardian Mode (the UK only) also uses a timer to provide added security and peace of mind when using the Secure app. It allows customers to identify times when the vehicle will be inactive, for example through the night, and receive alerts to their smartphone if it is used during this window – giving immediate warning of any unauthorized movements.

The new F-PACE also benefits from a selection of advanced driver assistance technology. This includes Clear Exit Monitor, which alerts both front and rear occupants to the presence of an approaching car or cyclist when exiting the vehicle. Adaptive Cruise Control (standard on HSE) automatically maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front.

Jaguar’s latest 3D Surround Camera technology delivers advanced 3D functionality using the latest camera technology to deliver more detail and a choice of real-time viewing when maneuvering the vehicle. The selection of settings includes Junction View, 3D Perspective View, and ClearSight Plan View.

Jaguar’s commitment to creating strong and lightweight vehicles continues with the new
F-PACE. The aluminum-intensive architecture uses recycled aluminum from closed-loop manufacturing for greater sustainability and is an important contribution towards Jaguar’s journey to Destination Zero, a world of zero emissions, zero accidents, and zero congestion.

  • Unique Bugatti type 57 Atalante leads Coachbuilt collection at Concours of elegance

    1938-Bugatti-Type-57-Atalanta1

The Concours of Elegance, presented by A. Lange & Söhne, will showcase the most astonishing coachbuilt automotive masterpieces in history, including a unique Bugatti Type 57 with coachwork by Gangloff. The one-off or ultra-rare motorcars are joined by Formula One racers throughout the ages, modern-day hypercars, Le Mans 24 Hours winners, and more at the UK’s finest Concours d’elegance, hosted from 4-6 September at Hampton Court Palace.

Harking back to a time when the world’s most advanced and luxurious cars were delivered only as a rolling chassis to be bodied at coachworks of your choice, the Concours of Elegance will celebrate this era’s most beautiful creations. Below are just a few examples:

    Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Gangloff

Many consider the Type 57 to be the pinnacle of Bugatti’s touring models. Revealed in 1934, it was the first car built under the direction of Jean Bugatti. He was also instrumental in the design of the new Type 57 engine, a 3.3-liter straight-eight producing 140bhp at a time when the equivalent Bentley figure was a ‘paltry’ 115bhp. The biggest selling point over and above the mechanical design, however, was the stunning body styling drawn up by Jean and in-house carpenter-wheelwright, Joseph Walter. The Ventoux two-door, Galibier four-door, and Atalante Coupé were later joined by the Aravis Coupé and the open Stelvio, from renowned local coachbuilder Gangloff. This Type 57 Atalante, 57633, was ordered in February 1938 by wealthy French industrialist Fernand Crouzet. He asked Gangloff to create a one-off, and its unique features included long rear wings, a boot lid-mounted spare-wheel mount, a single back window, special bumpers, and disc wheels. The car survived World War Two unscathed via several changes of owner, and post-war it was refurbished and put to use as the transport for the French Embassy in London.

    1957JaguarXK150SBertonecarphoto1

    Jaguar XK150 S Bertone

The Jaguar XK150 featured styling reminiscent of its XK120 and 140 predecessors while featuring a far more contemporary late-1950s design. It originally came as a fixed-head coupé, a drophead coupé, and a roadster, but in a few rare cases, it got bespoke coachwork from famous design houses. This Jaguar, S 834365, is just one of three XK150s that were sent as bare chassis to Bertone in Turin, to be bodied as prototype fixed-head coupés. Each had slightly different styling by Franco Scaglione, who was responsible for arguably some of the most striking cars of the 20th century, from the Alfa Romeo B.A.T. cars to the Lamborghini 350GTV prototype and the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale. The Bertone’s were reportedly built as prototypes for a possible XK150 replacement – a couple of years before the E-type would fill that space. Interestingly, the cars all had a delicate ‘XKE’ badge on their rear flanks. This XK150 Bertone is car no. 2, and its chassis was made on August 15, 1957, and dispatched to Italy the following month. It’s the only example known to still exist, with the other two cars had apparently been unseen for decades.

    1928-Bentley

    Bentley 4.5-Litre

Meet ‘Mr. Fred’, one of only two Bentley 4.5-Litre Drophead sports coupés still in existence with bodywork by Salmons & Sons, the legendary Newport Pagnell coachworks that was to become the home of Aston Martin. What’s more, this beautiful 1928 aluminum-bodied automobile was the personal car of company owner Mr. Fred Salmons – giving rise to its affectionate name. Founded in Buckinghamshire in 1830 by Joseph Salmons, the coachworks progressed from creating high-quality horse-drawn coaches and dog carts to bodying some of the earliest and finest cars for all makes of automobile chassis from 1898 onward. Its bespoke workmanship was much coveted. This 4.5-Litre’s front wings are a wonderful example of the type of elegance and form in aluminum for which Salmons was known, while its distinctive mother of the pearl instrument panel is a thing of delicate beauty.

These cars will join others in the Main Concours display, curated as a line-up of the rarest and most spectacular cars ever built. Joining them are a selection of ‘Future Classics’, iconic Formula One cars, and an all-new Junior Concours, showcasing the best of a half-scale pedal, electric and petrol-powered classic cars.

New for Concours of Elegance 2020 is the addition of the auction of the year, courtesy of Gooding & Company. The Gooding & Co team will be showcasing 15 vehicles, expected to fetch around £50m altogether, crowned by the most important competition Bugatti in history, a Type 59 Sports.

The UK’s finest automotive manufacturers and specialists will also be displaying their vehicles, including a line-up of rare Porsche 356s from Export 56 and showcases from Joe Macari and Fiskens. Lotus, Jaguar Classic, Aston Martin, and Brabham Automotive will each be showcasing their latest models.

Away from the automotive displays, Concours of Elegance visitors can enjoy picnics courtesy of Fortnum & Mason, champagne from Charles Heidsieck, and luxury shopping from the likes of Niccolò P. and its bespoke polo shirts.

The Concours of Elegance 2020 takes place 4-6 September. With audience welfare in mind, the organizers have created a new operational plan including revised hospitality and restricted audience capacity, with the introduction of separate morning and afternoon tickets. Guest numbers will also be strictly limited to comply with social distancing guidance.

  • Jaguar F-PACE SVR

    2021-Jaguar-F-PACE-SVR1

Lister Motor Company, Britain’s oldest racing car company, has taken the wraps off Britain’s fastest and most powerful SUV – the Lister Stealth. Based on the already dynamic Jaguar F-PACE SVR, the 666bhp Stealth is the latest in a long line of stunning, hand-crafted, and bespoke products from the Cambridgeshire manufacturer – a lineage spanning nearly seven decades.

Lister’s renowned skill for creating exclusive and luxurious, high-performance cars is already evidenced with the introduction of the Jaguar F-TYPE SVR based LFT-666 coupe and LFT-C convertible. Now, Lister enhances that reputation further with the mind-blowing power and speed of the Stealth.

To claim the title of Britain’s fastest SUV, the Stealth required a thorough update to the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine found in the factory F-PACE SVR. Lister’s core DNA of performance and driving enjoyment is abundant within the Stealth. The company’s team of highly experienced engineers set to work on the engine and cooling system to ensure it delivers an outstanding 666bhp and 881Nm of torque – a 22% increase over the standard car.

The process began with a custom-built intercooler and high-performance air filtration system for optimising combustion temperatures and airflow into the unit. Upgraded dual supercharger pulleys have the cumulative effect of forcing more air into the combustion chamber for unrivalled levels of performance for this vehicle segment.

Like in the LFT-666 and LFT-C, Lister’s Engineering Team has applied the brand’s proprietary Lister Engine Management System to the Stealth, modifying the programme mapping throughout the process to exploit the Stealth’s full capabilities. The result is a five-seat SUV that can deliver a devilish 666bhp with ease.

The Stealth will accelerate with the same urgency as a modern supercar and keep on going to its top speed of 195mph. In a sprint from 0-60mph, the Stealth takes a mere 3.6 seconds, making it not only the fastest accelerating SUV Britain has ever produced, but also the most powerful to date. The Stealth adds proof to its claim of being Britain’s fastest SUV after recently beating the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin Vantage, and McLaren 570 GT in a drag race at the renowned testing ground, VMAX200.

The Lister Stealth showcases its intent with a number of handmade bodywork enhancements that not only exude visual appeal but also contribute to the car’s aerodynamic performance and engine cooling. The redesigned carbon fibre front bumper features two large air intakes to aid airflow into the engine, while the front splitter increases aerodynamic efficiency at speed while adding to the Stealth’s dynamic handling. Uprated brakes, front, and rear, ensure the Stealth stops as well as it accelerates.

A large carbon fibre rear diffuser sits in the middle of an exclusively sculpted rear bumper, creating additional downforce in tandem with the front splitter. Lister has also fitted a custom-designed, stainless-steel exhaust system complete with carbon fibre tips delivering gains in overall power output, giving the Stealth an unmistakable and thunderous soundtrack.

Completing the distinctive exterior look are matching side skirts and wider wheel arches to give the Stealth its purposeful stance. This is all complemented by bespoke, Lister-designed 23-inch Vossen forged wheels – the only element of the Lister Stealth not made in the UK.

No expense has been spared in the design of the Stealth’s sumptuous interior. Alongside performance, luxury is one of the hallmarks of every Lister model.

The Stealth features the highest-grade Bridge of Weir Nappa leather interior that is tailored to every customer’s specification. Up to 36 individual colour choices are available with a further 90 different stitching options covering all aspects of the cabin from the seatbelts, sport seats, dashboard, steering wheel, and roof lining. With this level of customisation available, each Lister will boast its own unique identity that’s truly personal to each owner.

As with all Lister models, exclusivity is guaranteed. Just 100 examples of the UK’s fastest and most powerful SUV are earmarked for production worldwide. Prices start from £109,950 for this ultimate expression of luxury, practicality, and performance, with client consultation appointments available via the Lister website.

Warrantywise, the UK’s best-used car warranty, provides complete peace of mind for customers with an incredible and unprecedented seven-year warranty for this class of performance luxury SUV.

Lawrence Whittaker, CEO of The Lister Motor Company, said: “Creating Britain’s fastest SUV is not without its challenges, but our in-house design and development team have created a truly unique and world-class product with the Lister Stealth. The launch of the Stealth continues our track record of creating bespoke, beautiful cars that major on performance, luxury, and most of all owner and driver enjoyment, with a price point that significantly undercuts the competitors in this marketplace.”
