  • Hyundai Fantastic Five Debuting at SEMA

Hyundai-SEMA-Concepts-THUMBSEMA is a really big thin at the moment for the entire automotive world. One of the companies with an every year presence at the show is Hyundai, and it has released five of its concepts introduced at the event. It has once again teamed up with some of the biggest names in the tuning community. This year, the focus is on performance, thus boosting the new Genesis and Sonata models. The lineup of Hyundai vehicles includes ARK Performance AR550 Genesis Sedan, Bisimoto Engineering Sonata, Blood Type Racing Genesis Coupe, JP Edition Sonata and Toca Signature Edition Genesis Sedan.

ARK Performance AR550 Genesis is ultra-luxurious and equipped with supercharged power. ARK also focused on the power, handling, and note: sound of the Hyundai power plant. High-performance racing technology was also integrated in the Genesis in order to introduce a very unique and bold tuning.

Bisimoto is teaming up with Hyundai for the third year for SEMA. The powertrain gurus have created the most-powerful, front-wheel drive Sonata ever! The number is 708 horsepower (521 kW) and is produced by the entirely custom 2.4-liter “Theta-II” four cylinder engine. The car is made distinctive via the custom laminated body wrap and graphics.

The third car is the Blood Type Racing Genesis Coupe and it is the most-powerful 2.0-liter Genesis Coupe ever built. It features high-boost Precision Turbo turbocharger, strengthened and fully balanced internal components, a custom intake, intercooler, full exhaust kit and nitrous injection. All of this means that the tuners at BTR achieved the goal of extracting almost 1000 horsepower (735) from the engine.

The aggressive appearance of the Genesis Coupe which perfectly complements power under the hood is the addition of a widebody kit from Japanese designer Kei Miura, with 40mm-wider front and 60mm-wider rear fenders, front bumper lip spoiler, rear diffuser and a GT wing.

Number four is the JP Edition Sonata and it features a balance of performance products, in-car entertainment and represents the enthusiasts whose cars showcase an extension of their personalities and lifestyles. JP has given the Sonata a performance boost, as well as AEM cold air intake, a MagnaFlow exhaust kit and a hot charge pipe from Bisimoto engineering.

At last, Toca Signature Edition Genesis, dubbed “Steel Phoenix”, is powered by the Hyundai’s “Tau” 5.0-liter V8, which later was enhanced with Garrett twin turbo setup, ARK Performance catback exhaust system. The result is a power output of 600 horsepower (441 kW). Inside, the vehicle has also been given a boost: custom black leather seats with contrasting white stitching, carbon-fiber trim panels and a Rockford Fosgate sound system are all at hand.

  • Hyundai Previews New Sport Series with HB20 R-Spec Concept

Hyundai-HB20-R-Spec-Concept-THUMBHyundai HB20 R-Spec Concept is another vehicle that most of us will see only on pictures. But if you are living in Sao Paolo and you are a car enthusiast, then you have already seen this little gem as the auto show which is currently taking place in the Brazilian city. Of course, like all of the other concept an production vehicles that have debuted there, this one is specifically developed for the Latin American market.

In fact, the HB20 derivative is very popular in the country, an in my opinion it absolutely mimics the Chevy Spark. Well, in Sao Paulo for local consumption, Hyundai produces this HB20 in three versions: hatchback, sedan and crossover. It is the former on which the current HB20 R-Spec is based on.

The concept car is covered in matte blue and as you can see it features aggressive aero kit. There are additional cooling ducts and LED headlights. This mini runs on 17-inch alloys and knows how to treat its occupants, because of the leather trimmed interior and the striped seats.

There is no official data on engine or other technical equipment. Even though, this R-Spec looks pretty well and we suppose that it will go in production very soon. This was the story of the HB20 Crossover which debuted in 2012 at the show in Sao Paolo and a year later went official on the market.

  • Hyundai Elantra Reaches 10 Million Unit Milestone

The huge success of Hyundai does not cease to impress people. Recently the Korean automotive company announced that its 2015 Elantra sedan (which is also known as Avante in some other parts of the world) surpassed the 10 million sales mark since its start in 1990. The striking achievement becomes even more striking when you take into consideration that Hyundai Elantra is the first model produced by Hyundai manufacturer and also one of the 10 cars in the whole auto-history to make such an amazing boom. This reputable accomplishment is possible thanks to the average sales of 420,000 per year which is rated approximately at 1,100 a day. Mind-blowing, isn’t it?

“Reaching this historic mark is a testament to Elantra’s staying power and the global appeal of a vehicle that delivers design, functionality and performance,” pointed out Bob Pradzinski, vice president of National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. He continued and added that; “As a company it also shows our ability to quickly adapt to changing consumer preferences and continue to push the compact car segment with features once reserved for luxury vehicles.”

The most recent Elantra model keeps its position of a leader among the exclusively competitive compact car range. This has been confirmed by several prestigious awards which the Elantra has achieved, thus including ranking the highest in its segment for initial quality in the influential J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS). Elantra is also the three-time winner (during 2011, 2012 and 2013) of the ALG Residual Value Awards and remains one of the most desirable and purchased vehicles in the segment.

  • Art and High-Performance Blend in John Pangilinan’s SEMA-based Sonata [VIDEO]

John-Pangilinan-Hyundai-Sonata-THUMBAt the SEMA show we are used to see Hyundai displaying a range of exceptional custom vehicles. For this year the company is set to raise the standards even more by blending art and performance … literally. The embodiment of this philosophy is John Pangilinan’s SEMA based Sonata, which strives to change the perception of what the regular sedan is by combining high performance driving dynamics with the striking visuals of Los Angeles street art.

The design vision for the JP Edition Sonata is included in details in the video below. It is called “Hyundai SEMA 2014: Meet the Builders” and it shows how it is possible to build the connection between the fashion and street art and the tons of horsepower.

JP Edition Sonata keeps the stock white paintwork as the visual base. In this way, John Pangilinan wanted to represent a blank white canvas, upon which he would create his work of art. The artist has worked together with Flexfit | BSCMP and Mr. 44 – a renowned Los Angeles-based street artist. The result is exceptional: the trio was able to create a Sonata that reflects a union between equally passionate street art and auto-enthusiast cultures.

In addition, the Sonata also got a performance boost via the added AEM cold air intake, a MagnaFlow exhaust kit and a hot charge pipe from Bisimoto engineering. The chassis has also been changed with the addition of KW coilovers.

LTMW wide body and lip kit make the JP Sonata more aggressive. The same effect is additionally strengthened with the exclusive 19 inch RAYS Gram Lights 57Getter wheels wrapped in Toyo R888 tires.

Inside, the tuning consists only in the substitution of the standard seats with Recaro cross sportster seats and the addition of BP Auto Sound with Alpine and Scosche electronics, which we definitely don’t find enough for a project which is to be exhibited at SEMA.

Don’t miss to check out what inspires these tuning veterans to build this Hyundai car for the SEMA show. Are they missing something and will their work be as successful as they claim? Leave your thoughts below in the comment section and stay tuned for more details around this project!

  • Automotive Technology With Teenagers In Mind

Car crashes are the number-one killer of teenagers in the United States. Contributing factors include behaviors such as speeding, lack of seat belt use, drinking, and texting. Various manufacturers have addressed this issue with safety technology and the many of the systems they have developed are quite unique. In this article we looked at systems from Ford, GM, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz.

GM’s Family Link is part of OnStar and costs $3.99 a month on top of the OnStar subscription fees. It allows parents to find their teen’s car on a map on their website and receive a text or email as to their whereabouts. Parents can set a time to receive a geo-based alert, which is helpful to verify they arrived at their destination safely.

Hyundai BlueLink is similar to OnStar in that it keeps track of the vehicle and driver’s safety in an emergency. For $179 a year, you get roadside-assistance features in addition to teen safeguards, such as a speed alert, geo-fencing (restricts where the car can be driven), and curfew alert. This allows parents to set these boundaries on the car and to receive a message when they are overridden.

The Ford MyKey system became standard on most Ford models in 2010. It allows a parent to program a second vehicle key that holds specific driving restrictions. Here are some of the features offered to parents:

    • Sets off an alarm and won’t allow the radio to go on when a seat belt isn’t fastened
    • Sets a top speed up to 80 mph, with chimes that go off at 45, 55, or 65 mph.
    • Limits audio volume.
    • Set the low-fuel warning at an earlier level, so instead of 50 miles to empty, you can change it to 75 miles.
    • Driving aids such as blind spot, park aid, and traction control cannot be deactivated.

Mercedes-Benz mbrace2 has similar features as Hyundai’s BlueLink. It adds an interesting feature called Safe Ride that allows the driver to signal they need help getting home, such as if they are intoxicated. The cost for mbrace2 is $280 a year and $20 more for mbrace plus, which adds a geo-fencing, speed alerts, a comprehensive driving journal, and travel assistance.

The reception to the public to these features by the public has been strong. The fees can sometimes sound expensive for these services, yet in reality, most families would probably use them just for a couple of years. Of course, most parents don’t necessarily buy a new car for their teen, but when sharing a family car (which saves on insurance), teens can benefit from these potentially life-saving services.

  • 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe offers new features

    2015-Hyundai-Santa-Fe_thumb2015-Hyundai-Santa-Fe_651

Hyundai has proudly announced that the new 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport offer more standard features, comfort and convenience equipment than ever, including refinements to the steering and suspension systems.

More specifically the improvements to the power steering system include a 32-bit microprocessor that delivers a refined steering feel. The steering system keeps the Hyundai Driver Selectable Steering Mode, which offers a retuned “Sport” setting that makes use of the new processor and offers firmer steering. The front wheel bushes have also been re-tuned for 2015, which enhances the steering feel.

The suspension systems in the 2015 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport increase the wheel bearing stiffness and lower control arm bushing stiffness, which increases the overall lateral stiffness of the front suspension. The revised rear suspension geometry and bushings also increase the lateral stiffness.

The two new models also come with tons of new standard and safety features that include daytime running lights, a driver’s blind spot mirror and an auto up/down front passenger power window. Hyundai’s innovative new power Hands-Free Smart Liftgate with Auto Open is now available on Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models, which makes it even easier for owners to gain access to the cargo area when their hands are full. The system makes it easy for the driver to keep both feet on the ground, simply waiting for the liftgate to open after standing within a few feet of the rear bumper with the key fob in a purse or pocket. This is also the first time Santa Fe Sport can be equipped with a power liftgate. Furthermore the two new models offer two new colors – Sparkling Silver and Platinum Graphite and there is a two-tone grille for 2015 (Santa Fe Sport only) that emphasizes the car’s sportier personality.

Both vehicles offer new rich safety equipment for 2015 including Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System, seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, four-wheel disc brakes and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) with Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe is powered by a 3.3-liter Lambda II V6 engine, while the Santa Fe Sport offers a choice between an efficient 2.4-liter four cylinder engine or a powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. All engines use gasoline and offer direct fuel injection and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT). A six-speed automatic transmission is standard on all 2015 Santa Fe models; the gearbox transfers engine power to the front wheels or all of them, depending on what you choose.

The vehicles are available now with the 2015 Santa Fe Sport starting at just USD 24,950, excluding a USD 875 freight fee.

  • Toca Marketing Group Tunes Genesis to New Performance Benchmark

Hyundai seems to be well prepared for the upcoming 2014 Sema Show for it teases ahead of the show with a modified 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan. Referred to as the “Steel Phoenix” and constructed by Chicago-based tuning company Toca Marketing Group, the new Genesis characterizes with aesthetic improvements and performance upgrades that are said to crash the “barriers of innovation in the pursuit of perfection.” Toca has worked hard to design a car that does not run behind German super sedans with its sharp style and luxury

Here, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan’s 5.0-liter V-8 is boosted to 600 HP (447 kW) by a custom-designed Garett twin-turbo system base. It gains its finish look with a full ARK Performance catback exhaust system. There is also an AirRex digital air suspension system which allows the car to lower down closer to the ground on ultra-high performance Toyo rubber. Power is sent to the pavement via Toyo tires that are wrapped around custom 21-inch COR 3-piece wheels. Furthermore, the stopping power is supplied by Neo Motorsport that incorporates 8-piston brake calipers up front and 6-piston units in the rear.

Inside, the Steel Phoenix is ‘touched’ as well. Thanks to the exclusive treatment provided by Toca, the interior of the car can make one’s jaw drop. For real. It features custom black leather seats that are contrasted by white stitching, carbon-fiber trim panels and an audio system that is updated with Rockford Fosgate sound components. What is more, the vehicle is given a new finish – a custom blend of BASF R-M products which bring to the paintwork a steel, metallic appearance.

Toca has taken care of the exterior appearance as well. The new all-metal wide body-design is further accentuated with matte and gloss black elements. The achieved effect is that of certain uniqueness and a sort of exclusive attractiveness.
