  • 2014 GMC Sierra Pick-Up With Improved Aerodynamics

2014-GMC-Sierra-Wind-Tunnel-Air-Dam-THUMB2014 GMC Sierra full-size pick-up truck will now offer its customers new and exclusive designe changes as well as enhanced interior quietness. The vehicle has spent more development time in a wind tunnel than any GMC pickup thus achieving the afore mentioned changes as well as better fuel economy.

The improved airflow is a result of a study how the air passes over, under and around the Sierra. The engineers utilized for this purpose the Aerodynamics Lab, which is a 750-foot-long tunnel through which a 43-foot-diameter fan powered by a DC electric motor with the equivalent of 4,500 horsepower can generate winds of up to 138 mph.

As a matter of fact, a consequence of the aerodynamic improvements is the new air dam below the 2014 Sierra’s front bumper. It reduces drag through directing the air toward the ground and away from the truck’s rough underbody. In addition, vehicle’s ducted flow path between the grille and radiator stops the air from swirling inside the truck’s front cavities.

What is more, the air is guided flawlessly around this GMC’s tailgate and the center high-mounted stop light. These elements were optimized for this purpose. Additionally, a new sealing has been added which prevents the unwanted airflow between the cab and bed.

Added noise and increased fuel consumption is a result of add-ons like bug deflectors on the hood, wider tires, aftermarket bumpers or lower tailgate. In fact, when the tailgate is in the up position then the car should be more aerodynamically efficient.

Therefore the accessories that can be used as aerodynamics-enhancers are the soft covers and fully integrated flush-mount running boards which can also help air flow smoothly down the truck’s sides and can provide a minor improvement to the truck’s drag coefficient.

  • 2013 GMC Terrain Denali 3.6L V-6

2013-GMC-Terrain-Denali-3-6L-V-6-THUMBGMC is currently expanding the Denali sub-brand through the debut of the all-new 2013 GMC Terrain Denali, which undoubtedly will bring even more style and power to the luxury small SUV range. The reason for this is that the with the introduction of the Terrain Denali, GMC also announced the simultaneous introduction of the new 3.6-liter V-6 engine with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing, which will replace the current 3.0-liter V-6 engine in Terrain lineup.  In details, the engine delivers the exciting 301 horsepower (224 kW) at 272 lb.-ft. (369 Nm) of torque. And although it makes more power and torque, it is expected to deliver fuel economy equal to its predecessor. How is that possible? Well, the answer lies in the use of new lightweight components in the V-6 engine, which in contribute to the fuel efficiency. In addition, an integrated cylinder head/exhaust manifold design saves about 13 pounds compared to a non-integrated design. Next, a composite intake manifold saves about 5.5 pounds vs. an aluminum intake. And eventually, there’s the lightweight structural front cover and high-strength connecting rods, which save further from the weight of the SUV.

Terrain Denali will be offered with its standard Ecotec 2.4-liter I-4 with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing as well. It will also include front-wheel drive as a standard on Terrain Denali, with all-wheel drive available for both engines. However, what is exclusive to the Terrain Denali’s suspension system are the new dual-flow dampers. In particular, this technology delivers a smoother ride and improved handling by means of control on the suspension dampening across a broader range of driving conditions.

2013 GMC Terrain Denali includes high-end details. The models with the 2.4L engine feature 18-inch wheels, while the V-6 engine model sides on 19-inch wheels. Further exterior features are: signature chrome grille, satin chrome accents, body color front and rear fascias, body color rocker panels with satin chrome molding, new headlamp and taillamp designs, dual chrome finish exhaust outlets (single outlet on 2.4L). How about the interior – Terrain Denali’s includes the soft-touch of Jet Black leather, which lines the seats and door inserts. In addition, a contrast stitching and red accent lighting contribute to an inviting interior. Additionally to the interior are exclusively included: soft-touch instrument panel with French stitching, leather-wrapped steering wheel with smoked mahogany wood accents, embossed Denali logos on front seatbacks, smoked mahogany wood trim accents, Denali illuminated front sill plates, Eight-way power driver and passenger seat.

  • Chevrolet Camaro Military Tribute Auctioned – 175 000$

Military-Tribute-Camaro-Auction-thumbA very special Chevrolet “Military Tribute Camaro” has been auctioned at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. The Achilles Freedom team will benefit from the final bid which reached $175,000. It is an association that helps wounded war veterans to overcome their physical and psychological trauma by engaging them in various sports activities, athletics and marathons.

The 2010 Camaro itself boasts an impressive paint job. It has been done by the renown artist Mickey Harris who has been airbrushing things for 33 years now. He has spent most of his childhood on military installations and one can notice that just by looking at his works.

“The Military Tribute Camaro was designed to honor our armed forces heroes. Now, thanks to its generous new owner, it will help our injured veterans rebuild their lives through the excellent work of the Achilles Freedom Team,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Chevrolet Marketing and Strategy.

The other impressive thing about this car is that before the auction, it has toured over 30 military camps within the USA including the Pentagon. And now, last Sunday its journey ended at the Barrett-Jackson auction with a novel cause.

The whole project was supported by the GM Military Discount Program – one of the most generous military discount programs in the industry. Through it, GM offers GM Preferred Pricing (the same price extended to GM suppliers) on any Chevrolet (except Volt), Buick or GMC.

Other US soldier aid programs, supported by Chevrolet include the Cell Phones for Soldiers –  This program provides phone cards to service men and women. In 2011, Chevrolet raised $212,000 (worth 100,000 hours of talk time) from the auction proceeds of a 2012 Honor and Valor Camaro SS and Chevrolet donations of $100 for every car and truck sold during Military Appreciation Month in May. Since 2010, Chevrolet has collected more than 70,000 used cell phones, worth 70,000 hours of talk time. Then there’s the Travis Manion Foundation – named after First Lt. Travis L. Manion who was killed in battle in Iraq 2007, this association has received by GM 250 000$ intended to relief families of fallen soldiers and veterans. There is also a number of  events sponsored by GM, which involve active and retired military servicemen annually.

  • GMC 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine

General Motors Company has introduced their latest creation – a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which will have its official debut in the 2013 Cadillac ATS next month at the Detroit Motor Show.

“This engine is the perfect match for the new ATS, which will be a refined performance luxury sedan,” commented Don Butler, Cadillac vice president of Global Marketing.

“The 2.0T has an exceptionally smooth and responsive power curve that will make the ATS nimble, quick and fun to drive.”, he added.

The features direct-injection technology, four-valve-per-cylinder with CVVT, twin-scroll turbocharger, forged-steel crankshaft, and a two-stage variable-displacement oil pump with jet-spray piston cooling. It boasts 273PS (201 kW) and 353Nm (260 lb-ft) of toque at just 1500RPM, which is an impressive 136PS per liter.

Overall engine friction is reduced by up to 16 percent. The low-friction design means engine power is delivered more efficiently.

Proprietary computational fluid dynamics analysis techniques were used to develop an all-new combustion system with a higher compression ratio, which also helped boost efficiency.

Additional details on the ATS will be announced at the 2012 NAIAS. The ATS will be built at the Lansing Grand River plant alongside the Cadillac CTS Sedan, Coupe and Sport Wagon and V-Series performance cars.
