  • GMC Sierra HD AT4X

GMC has taken the lead in the off-road truck market with its Sierra 1500 AT4X and Canyon AT4X models. Now, GMC has announced the release of the first-ever 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X, which includes the Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition. This truck is designed to provide adventurers with increased off-road capability, as well as the towing capability required for heavy-duty hauling.

The Sierra HD AT4X is a premium off-road truck that combines increased off-road capability and smooth on-road handling. It also boasts the most trailering technology in its class and luxurious comfort features. GMC’s AT4X trim will be available across its entire truck lineup, offering customers more premium choices when it comes to “do-it-all” capabilities.

According to Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick-GMC, each model in the AT4X lineup delivers unique strengths, with the all-new Sierra HD AT4X offering the most luxurious and off-road capable HD truck ever offered by GMC. The AT4X makes it possible to conquer almost any terrain in complete comfort, while also having the towing power to bring along recreational toys, gear, or a camper for the adventure.

    AT4X

The new Sierra HD AT4X builds on the revamped 2024 Sierra HD, which has received fresh design updates, new premium interiors, and a new tech-focused layout. The highlights of the new Sierra HD AT4X include:

    • Available 18,500-pound max trailering capacity1
    • Factory-installed 1.5-inch (38mm) suspension lift
    • Multimatic DSSV dampers
    • Rear e-locking differential
    • 35-inch Goodyear Territory tires
    • Specific front upper and lower control arms and specific steering knuckles
    • Larger steel transfer case skid plate and front aluminum skid plate
    • Unique Obsidian Rush interior featuring premium appointments like massaging, full-grain leather-wrapped front seats

The Sierra HD AT4X comes with a new Off-Road Mode that adjusts different vehicle calibrations, including anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control. This feature provides optimized performance for off-road adventures. The Off-Road Mode also modifies throttle progression and transmission shifts, enabling better off-road control and performance.

    Extreme AEV Edition

The AT4X AEV Edition, which is available, includes robust stamped steel bumpers with integrated recovery points and front winch capability to provide additional driver confidence and protection. The truck also has heavy-duty steel skid plates that help protect essential components, like the steering gear and transfer case, on the trail. Additional features of this edition include unique 18-inch Salta wheels, exterior badging, and interior cues.

Dave Harriton, AEV CEO and founder, said that the Sierra HD is an ideal foundation for on-road performance, off-road capability, and towing power. AEV used its signature performance-driven approach and attention to detail to enhance the aspects that off-road customers want and demand in their heavy-duty truck, just like they did with the Sierra 1500 before. The result is an impressive truck with capability and confidence in all the right places.

Heavy Duty capability: Turbocharged pulling power

The new AT4X has the standard 6.6L gas engine, and it also offers the turbocharged power of the available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel. For 2024, the Duramax Turbo-Diesel is improved to deliver 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, providing more power across the entire operating speed range.

Both engines come with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission that’s designed to optimize engine power, torque, and efficiency.

    Confidence-inspiring trailering tech

The new AT4X, like the rest of the 2024 Sierra HD lineup, has the most trailering assistance technologies in the heavy-duty class2. It also has the available ProGrade Trailering System that includes a suite of available intelligent assistance technologies designed to help streamline the hitching and towing process.

These technologies include available enhanced Transparent Trailer View4 for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering, available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert5, and new, available Adaptive Cruise Control5 with Trailering. Additionally, there are up to 14 available camera views6, including Hitch View, Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance, and Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator, that can help enhance customers’ safety and confidence.

    First-class interior luxury and comfort

The first-ever Sierra HD AT4X is a premium HD pickup truck that is both off-road capable and luxurious, with the exclusive Obsidian Rush interior featuring full-grain leather-wrapped seats, Vanta Ash wood décor, and a 12-speaker Bose® Premium Series audio system. The AEV Edition adds the AEV logo on the front-seat head restraints and unique AEV-branded floor liners.

The new cabin boasts an all-new, tablet-style 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center, and a 15-inch-diagonal head-up display. These features provide customers with high levels of personalization and intuitive engagement. Additionally, the Obsidian Rush interior features power massaging front seats.

    Coming in Q3 2023

The new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition will be available in dealerships in the fall of 2023, and their pricing will be revealed closer to the start of production.

  • GMC Sierra EV

GMC’s introduction of the first-ever Sierra EV marks a turning point for the premium truck brand, as it expands its portfolio of all-electric trucks. Led by the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, it offers uncompromising pickup capability, a GM-estimated 400 miles of range on a full charge and unique features made possible only by its dedicated EV truck platform.

“This is the Denali of EVs — and a truck that is every bit a GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “That means it leaves nothing on the table when it comes to hauling, towing and overall power while unlocking even more possibilities around what a GMC pickup can offer.”

GMC will be the only brand to offer three all-electric trucks, with the Sierra EV joining the popular GMC HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV. Underpinning these three trucks is GM’s groundbreaking Ultium Platform, which enables incredible versatility and optimal performance in an all-electric truck.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be available at launch in early 2024. GMC will introduce the Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation trims in the 2025 model year.

“The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is just the beginning,” said Aldred. “It will offer customers our very latest in technology, capability and luxury delivered in a way only GMC can do — with much more to come. From the HUMMER EV supertruck to the first-ever Sierra EV, GMC continues to write the next chapter in its future as a premium truck and SUV brand.”

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 breaks new ground for GMC in four key areas:

    Next-Gen Power

    • GM-estimated range of 400 miles (640 km) on a full charge
    • GM-estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode
    • Onboard Power Station Pro turns Sierra EV Denali into a mobile power source, with up to 10.2kW of off-board power that can be used in a variety of situations
    • 800 Volt DC Public Fast Charging capable at up to 350kW, enabling up to 100 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes — the best charging capability in the EV truck segment

    Purposeful Technology

    • 16.8-inch-diagonal freeform infotainment touchscreen — the largest ever in a Sierra
    • Trailering-capable Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada
    • Customizable drive modes, including Max Power mode, which enables 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 4.5 seconds (GM estimate)
    • Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that both enables a more comfortable ride as well as the ability to raise or lower the truck by approximately 2 inches
    • EV-enabled propulsion technologies including Regen on Demand Braking, One-Pedal Driving and 4-Wheel Steer with CrabWalk

    “Grille-to-Gate” Versatility

    • Versatility and next-generation GMC functional design enabled by the Ultium Platform
    • GMC-first MultiPro Midgate™ expandable bed offers room for hauling longer items, while still enabling room for a rear-seat passenger
    • eTrunk™ increases cargo room capability with lockable, weatherproof compartment at the front of the vehicle
    • Up to 9,500 pounds (4,309 kg) max towing capacity

    Modern Luxurious Appointments

    • Authentic premium materials including grain-matched open-pore wood (including a wood veneer induction wireless charger), aluminum, etched stainless steel and more that customers have come to expect from the Denali name
    • Bold, all-new design features including a panoramic fixed glass roof
    • A sleek, modern interior crafted with exceptional attention to detail — from seat stitching that invokes the bold lines of the truck’s profile to a streamlined dashboard — lays the foundation for the future of the brand

“This truck is everything customers know about the Sierra, but is so much more,” said Nichole Kraatz, chief engineer, GM Battery Electric Trucks. “Leveraging GM’s dedicated Ultium pickup platform, it takes the Sierra franchise to new benchmarks of capability, versatility and luxury — all in a zero-tailpipe-emissions package.”

    NEXT-GEN POWER

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s Ultium battery pack enables its GM-estimated driving range of 400 miles on a full charge. It is also a structural element of the vehicle, which contributes to its overall strength, durability and performance. Furthermore, the placement of the battery pack lowers the truck’s center of gravity, while enhancing ride comfort and driving confidence on and off the road.

Front and rear electric drive units channel a GM-estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque to the wheels via an e4WD system in Max Power mode, giving the truck exceptional traction and capability in almost every driving scenario.

The foundation of the all-new Sierra EV’s range, performance and capabilities is the revolutionary Ultium Platform, first seen on the GMC HUMMER EV supertruck. After the launch of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, GMC will introduce additional trims with a selection of ranges and trailering ratings.

Additionally, the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s Power Station Pro allows the truck to be used as a mobile power source in multiple situations. With the available Ultium Power Bar accessory, the 2024 Sierra EV offers 10.2kW of off-board power through up to 10 outlets that can help power tools and other accessories on the trail or at a campsite, as needed. When properly equipped, the Sierra EV Denali’s Power Station Pro can even power another EV.

This off-board power capability means that with the right configuration, such as a bi-directional charger and additional products and services offered through GM Energy’s Ultium Home line, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 can power a home’s essential necessities, for up to 21 days collectively.

When it comes to charging performance, the 2024 Sierra EV Denali includes a 19.2kW onboard AC charging module for home and public charging. It also features 800V DC Public Fast Charging capability of up to 350kW, enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in only 10 minutes.

Owners also have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic approach to EV charging, designed to help simplify the overall charging experience, including access to more than 110,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada.

    PURPOSEFUL TECHNOLOGY

The Sierra EV offers the brand’s latest charging, infotainment and propulsion technologies that work holistically to help enhance and optimize every drive.

It all starts when the driver enters the vehicle. With Hands-Free Start, the vehicle turns on after the driver enters with a key fob. Once in the vehicle, the driver simply has to put their foot on the brake and put the vehicle into gear and they are ready to go. Simple and intuitive.

The driver is also welcomed by the bold animation of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s multiple high-resolution display screens, the center point of which is a large, 16.8-inch-diagonal freeform touchscreen. It’s the first portrait-oriented screen for GMC.

The touchscreen offers a user-friendly, freeform, customizable experience where icons can be organized similar to a smartphone, while keeping common buttons easily accessible. The screen can also be “split” to operate up to three apps simultaneously. And with GM’s Ultifi vehicle software platform, new features, apps and experiences can be downloaded over the air for greater personalization.

Additionally, in the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, the central 16.8-inch-diagonal screen is paired with an 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver information center and a multi-color Head Up Display offering 14 diagonal inches of view. It all adds up to more than 40 diagonal inches of digital displays providing ease of use and confident command for the driver. Further supporting that confidence are up to 14 available camera views to enhance visibility around the vehicle.

When it comes time for long trips, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 includes Super Cruise, the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance technology, allowing drivers to travel hands-free on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada, even when towing.

Customers have even more control over their driving experience with technologies enabled by the versatility of the Ultium Platform, including:

    • Customizable Drive Modes enable the driver to adjust steering, suspension, propulsion, sound and power settings for the ultimate personalized driving experience. These modes include:
      • Standard
      • Tow/Haul
      • Off-Road – for when the pavement ends
      • My Mode – a fully customizable experience for the driver
      • Max Power – a thrilling amount of EV torque enables 0-to-60 mph acceleration in under 4.5 seconds (GM estimate)
    • 4-Wheel Steer enables all four wheels to work together for a smaller turning circle and improved maneuverability
    • CrabWalk, a GMC-exclusive diagonal-drive feature that, at low speeds, turns the rear wheels in unison and at the same angle as the front wheels, allowing diagonal movement of the vehicle
    • Variable Regen on Demand Braking converts the kinetic energy of the vehicle’s forward momentum into electricity that’s stored in the battery pack to help improve driving range
    • One-Pedal Driving, which can slow the vehicle to a full stop, using only the accelerator

    ‘GRILLE-TO-GATE’ VERSATILITY

Functional innovations enabled by the Ultium Platform provide unprecedented flexibility and versatility for hauling and cargo stowage never before available in a Sierra.

“Without the need to work around a conventional propulsion system, there was an exciting opportunity to reimagine the Sierra EV with a refined yet bold, next-generation modern style and functionality,” said Sharon Gauci, executive director, Buick and GMC Design. “The Ultium Platform allowed us to design what a truck can offer differently when it comes to appearance, spaciousness and capability. It was an important goal for Sierra EV to be visually distinctive yet maintain the essence of GMC and this can be seen in many elements inside and out. For example, the powerful front shield and strong, continuous body side with machined detailing.”

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has a bold, forward-looking, and ultra-premium aesthetic that announces a new era for the brand’s design language, including a new interpretation of the GMC grille, which serves as an integral part of the sophisticated approach lighting animations, including perimeter grille lighting. Additionally, the Ultium Platform is integrated into the truck’s body structure, which enables more expressive overall design and a confident stance.

The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be offered exclusively in a Crew Cab model with an integrated 5-foot, 11-inch cargo bed. Its storage capacity is maximized with the innovative MultiPro Midgate™, which provides 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate, when the Midgate is open.

A 60/40-split second-row seat offers four configurations that allow users to haul gear or equipment while still accommodating a passenger, and an available tonneau cover allows longer items such as a kayak or windsurfing board to be stowed under a lockable, weatherproof cover.

GMC’s popular MultiPro Tailgate is also standard on the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. When this innovative tailgate is down, the maximum load floor length extends to nearly 11 feet with the MidGate down and the MultiPro Tailgate’s load-stop open.

At the front of the vehicle, the spacious eTrunk offers lockable weatherproof cargo space with two drains where the engine would be in a traditional truck, along with a 120-volt power outlet. The flat floor enables more storage space in the cab, including a modular center console.

GMC trucks are made to be used, and the Sierra EV is no exception. When it comes to the all-important task of towing, the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 delivers with up to 9,500 pounds (4,309 kg) of trailering capacity and up to 1,300 pounds of payload. A trailering package comes standard on the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

    MODERN LUXURIOUS APPOINTMENTS

Distinguished by distinctive interiors, next-level materials, exclusive features and technologies, Denali has always represented the pinnacle of luxury done the GMC way. In the new 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, that signature experience delivers the height of premium in an all-electric truck.

One of those expressions is the all-new, panoramic fixed glass roof that stretches above both rows of the cabin, creating an open-air ambience and a greater sense of spaciousness. The roof is infrared reflective and has a UV coating to help keep the cabin comfortable.

The interior accentuates openness, with attention to detail that shepherds in a modern and clean aesthetic. While distinctive quilting and the embroidered Denali logo on the front seat backs will be familiar to customers, the Sierra EV Denali introduces a new rich quilting pattern invocative of the vehicle’s bold front end. This attention to detail and premium materials is carried throughout the interior from the precise finishing on the doors to sweeping lines of authentic open-pore wood on the instrument panel. Also new is an inductive wireless charger finished in the same open-pore wood, creating the modern feel of uninterrupted lines and surfaces.

The wood décor is complemented with aluminum accents and even etched stainless steel on the speaker grilles of the Bose audio system. Additionally, the electric vehicle sound enhancement technology, developed with Bose, elevates the driver’s sensory experience.

    COMING IN EARLY 2024

Deliveries of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 are expected to begin in early 2024, with a starting MSRP of $107,000 (plus DFC).

More power, greater refinement for the Duramax Turbo-Diesel

The available enhanced 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel, paired with the 10-speed Allison transmission, now delivers 470 hp (at 2800 rpm) and 975 lb-ft (at 1600 rpm) of torque, offering more power across the entire operating speed range. Specifically, low-end torque production increases up to 25% compared to the current model for improved towing performance.

The 2024 Sierra HD will also offer best-in-class 2500 Crew Cab towing of up to 21,900 pounds and max 2500 towing of up to 22,500 pounds, enabled by a new available Max Tow Package.

Additional changes and upgrades were designed to produce a more efficient combustion and enhance overall performance. This latest iteration of the Duramax engines adds additional refinements including:

    • An all-new, more efficient turbocharger with improved efficiency to boost low-end torque
    • Increased power and torque over the entire operating speed range
    • Improved engine braking with a more powerful turbo vane actuator and uprated valve springs
    • New cylinder heads with improved cooling jackets
    • An all-new combustion system within the heads that’s matched with next-generation, higher-flow injectors and greater fuel injection pressure
    • All-new engine controller

10-speed Allison transmission enhances gas-engine trailering capability

The Allision 10-speed automatic transmission is now paired with the Sierra HD’s standard 6.6L gas engine. It replaces the previous six-speed automatic, offering smaller “steps” between the gears, which enables the 6.6L gas engine to hold closer to its peak power (401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque) for longer periods.

That translates into a more confident feeling of on-demand power, regardless of whether the truck is towing a trailer — but when it is, trailering performance and capability are enhanced thanks in part to the 10-speed configuration, along with the capability of channeling every single pound-foot of torque to the tires in every gear.

    Elevated and Purposeful Technology

    Best-in-Class Trailering Assistance Technologies

The 2024 Sierra HD will also offer the most trailering assistance technologies in the heavy-duty class through the available ProGrade Trailering System. The ProGrade Trailering System includes a suite of available intelligent trailering assistance technologies designed to help streamline the hitching and towing process, with integrated tools that help enhance customers’ feelings of safety, confidence and visibility including these new enhancements:

    • Available Enhanced, Industry First Transparent Trailer View for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering: Allows the driver to virtually “see through” the trailer. Using the camera mounted on the rear of the truck and an accessory camera on the back of the trailer, it pieces together a view of the area behind the truck and trailer as if the trailer was not there, improving visibility. An enhanced version of this technology for model year 2024 enables compatibility with gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers.
    • Available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert: Extends side blind zone alerts to include the blind zone areas around the trailer.
    • New GCW Alert: This all-new feature warns the driver if the vehicle and trailer weight exceed the vehicle’s Gross Combined Weight Rating.
    • New, Available Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering: Allows the Sierra HD’s available Adaptive Cruise Control to be used while trailering and to account for additional drag and increased braking distances when towing a trailer.

In total, the 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty offers up to 14 available camera views including:

    • Hitch Guidance with Hitch View: Provides a close-up view of the receiver hitch to help with alignment when connecting to a trailer.
    • Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance: Allows you to see the cargo bed to help with fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitching or to briefly check on cargo.
    • Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator: With a compatible trailer attached and a turn signal activated, this view will show a full screen down the side of the truck along with a Trailer Length Indicator to aid in lane-change maneuvers by visually showing obstructions with the trailer in adjacent lanes.

    High-Tech Digital Displays

The centerpiece of Sierra’s high-tech interior cabin is the new available 13.4-inch-diagonal tablet-style touchscreen — the largest infotainment touchscreen in its class. Situated in landscape orientation, the touchscreen offers a user-friendly, customizable experience. An available multicolor 15-inch-diagonal head-up display and a new available 12.3-inch-diagonal digital instrument cluster are also added in 2024 model year. Together, this creates over 40 inches of immersive digital displays helping to provide an engaging, customizable and comprehensive driving experience.

The all-new touchscreen infotainment center can be configured to a user’s preference, including the ability to operate multiple apps simultaneously in a “split-screen” view (e.g., a Navigation app running on the left side of the screen and a Music app on the right). Sierra HD’s infotainment system will also integrate Google built-in (on all trims except Pro) allowing customers to connect virtually every aspect of their daily lives within their vehicle. The system is compatible with both Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto.

    • Forward Collision Alert
    • Lane Departure Warning

    • Following Distance Indicator

2019 Rolling Big Power GMC Sierra HD2500Rolling Big power, a prominent manufacturer of aftermarket grilles, running boards, wheels, suspension and exhaust components, has partnered with Keaton “The Muscle” Hoskins from “Diesel Brothers” to debut an unique 2018 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali. The truck was created for Jonathan Barber, who was involved in a coal-mining accident back in 2017 that left him paralyzed. After connecting on social media, Hoskins and Barber became friends, and Hoskins transformed the Sierra 3500HD into a handicap accessible show truck.

The GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali was the ideal platform as it provided ample room and power. Barber is a longtime truck enthusiast who always dreamed of owning a lifted truck. The goal was to create a daily driver that was exclusive enough to show off at truck shows on weekends. Neat!

Under the watch of Hoskins, the truck has undergone a comprehensive transformation that features a handicap-accessible show rig, All-Terrain Conversion hydraulic chair lift and gullwing door, 24-inch Rolling Big power 12R Apex wheels with True Spike lug nuts and 40-inch Running Boards for easier entry for his family. There’s also a custom RBP Grille and fuel door that provide that signature RBP styling.

Also, in order to ensure increased tire clearance, Fusion bumpers were added at the front and rear, and Leer shell provides plenty of secure storage space for Barber’s wheelchair and gear. Primo Dynamics head and taillight assemblies were added for a truly custom look. The truck has performance modification to match its style, which includes an HP tune, Wehril Custom Fabrication-built gearbox and billet SunCoast torque converter.
