  • Fiat 500 Demonstrates One More Time Its Successful Formula

Fiat 500 has always been a fascinating and cute little vehicle. And since its introduction back in 1957 it started sort of a cult. It is cute, but at the same time offers some incredible dynamics. And this process hasn’t stopped until today. Almost sixty year have passed since the first 500 model and it still has a lot to demonstrate. So, let’s check out the latest Fiat 500 model.

    500 and its Packs

The cutie is available in saloon and convertible and further offers three trim levels: Pop, Popstar and Lounge. It really is a special car with all these customization options, isn’t it? So, the first one, the Pop pack brigs seven airbags, Uconnect Radio 5″, some USB ports, controls on the steering wheel and special LED daytime lights. In fact, nothing special. Just the good old Fiat 500 with some modern standard features. Meanwhile, the Popstar trim bring manual climate control system, vintage-styled hubcaps and chrome-plated mirror domes. Still nothing so interesting. And the Lounge version, the last one, offers some sophisticated details, panoramic sunroof, 15″-inch ally rims, chrome-plated grille, Uconnect Radio 5″, touchscreen and smartphone integration. It looks like, that the Lounge is maybe the most interesting of the three package. It is still better, than nothing, right?

    Drivetrain system

The latest Fiat 500 comes with 0.9 TwinAir engine, that offers the handy 85 or 105 hp (62 or 77 kW), a 1.2-Liter 69 hp (50kW) bi-fuel. In fact, the two-cylinder machine offers and one of the best efficiency rates and emissions: 90 g/km for the 85 hp version and 99 for the 105hp. So, what do you get at the end? A highly efficient vehicle with dynamic performance and not that interesting features. But it still will bring you wherever you like.

The latest Fiat 500 is refreshed and empowered, but it still stays that cute and special. The Fiat team one more time relied on the well-known success formula: aesthetics and technological innovations. And it still reminds us why Italy is a special place: style, passion and romance are blended in one with the Fiat 500

  • FIAT 500 to be Reborn on July 4

2007 Fiat 500 Side ViewFIAT 500 was introduced for the first time on July 4 back in 1957. Then the 2007 model variant of the FIAT 500 was unveiled again on the same date. Now it is time for a significantly updated variant of the car to be revealed on the 4th of July. Unfortunately there is no information about the car, but FIAT assured us that it will be available on its premiere.

    1957 Fiat 500

The first FIAT 500 was launched on July 4 in 1957. It was initially available only to the Italian customers. The developer of the iconic car was the engineer Dante Giacosa. He designed the vehicle with the aim of making it as affordable as possible and with great fuel efficiency.

SEE ALSO: A Vintage Affair With FIAT 500c 1957 Edition

The car was tiny, not because it had to avoid traffic (just imagine how many cars were rolling on the streets in the ’57 in comparison to nowadays), but because the materials were costly and because the bigger the car was, more expensive and not-efficient it became. In addition to this, the car adopted a full-length canvas roof, which was again lighter and cheeper in comparison to a metal roof.

    1957 Fiat 500

The same economical reasons were standing behind the choice of a rear-mounted, air-cooled, two-cylinder 479cc engine. It produced only 13hp (not even near to 10kW), but they were enough for the 470kg weight of the FIAT 500. In fact, the mini car was capable of just over 50mph, but this also means great fuel efficiency.

As a result, the FIAT 500 ended up in being a huge sales success. There were more than 3.6 million sales over its 18-year life cycle. Through these years the company was faithful to the initial goal of Giacosa and kept the original design and engineering principals.

    2007 Fiat 500

The evolution of FIAT 500 continued with the FIAT 126, FIAT Cinquencento and Seicento models. They also were brilliant urban vehicles, fun to drive and also commercially successful. However, the 500 disappeared when most needed in the cloggy traffic streets and tiny parking spaces.

So on July 4 2007 the FIAT 500 was reborn. Its design was true to the philosophy of the iconic 1957 car and kept it affordable and practical. The engine moved to the front, there was a lot more equipment and safety features but the design was kept in harmony with the original one.

Since then, the car has appeared in the markets of more than 100 countries and the sales outnumber 1.5 million. Now, the next chapter in the FIAT 500 history is about to begin … again on July 4. Stay tuned!

What I mean is that it has multiple personalities that can literally suit anyone. And now Fiat is introducing two other special edition specifications of the popular car which will debut at the 2014 Miami International Auto Show. The currently presented two new models are based on the 500 Pop and the 500L Trekking. 2015 Fiat 500 Ribelle (the latter word means rebel in Italian) shows its adventurous nature with a red Rosso roof, spoiler and mirror caps.

To make a perfect contrast the designers at Fiat complemented these red accents by the gloss black color called Nero Puro of the headlamp and tail lamp bezels. In addition, in the same color come the wheels. They however also add Rosso wheel caps.

The car will be offered in four exterior paint colors: Bianco (white), Billet Argento (Billet Silver), Grigio (gray) and Nero Puro. While the interior options are only two: Grigio/Nero or Grigio/Rosso.

2015 Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking is intended also for the urban streets. It has a Matte Nero exterior mirrors and bezels on the front and rear fascia, side sills and body-side molding. The car runs on 7-inch Matte Nero wheels. The black paint is complemented by Satin Chrome door handles, tail lamp bezels and accents on the front and rear fascia.

Inside, the 500L Urbana Trekking adds some special tweaks like the Nero leather steering wheel, leatherette door bolsters and cloth seats.

Of course, the Beats Audio system is standard. It features six premium speakers, a 6.5-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and eight-channel amplifier with Beats Audio’s proprietary digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

2015 Fiat 500 Ribelle will be available at dealerships in December at a starting price of $17,395 USD, while the 2015 Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking will appear in studios in the first quarter of 2015 with a price tag beginning at $22,795 USD.

  • Fiat 500 Couture Special Editions Exhibited in Paris

2015-Fiat-500-Couture-THUMBParis saw a really nice debut this year in the face of the Italian style icon – the Fiat 500 Couture. Under this name hide three distinctive vehicles: 500 Ron Arad Edition with a specific design like a garment “sewn” onto the car; the 500 Comics and 500 Camouflage showcars. The trio is inspired by the world of fashion and created to add to the pop and trendy nature in the 500′s DNA. The premiere took place during the Paris Fashion Week at the MotorVillage Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées.

500 Ron Arad Edition is a result of the joint work of the Italian brand and the internationally celebrated designer Ron Arad. To be more precise, the silhouette of the historic 1957 Fiat 500, or more famous as ‘Cinquino’, is drawn on the sides of the car using the Italian craftsmanship.

The car is equipped with great features such as a glass sunroof, chrome-plated accents, black interiors, superb black Poltrona Frau leather seats with ivory trim, 7″ TFT instrument panel, Blue&Me, leather steering wheel with radio controls, automatic climate control system, fog lights, 16 inch alloy rims, black metallic paintwork and white mirror caps with the silhouette of the legendary 500 drawn on the side panels.

The next two models, 500 Comics and 500 Camouflage showcars pay homage to the pop nature of the iconic Fiat 500. The first one has a two-tone livery, pastel ochre yellow and metallic black, embellished by craftsmanship resulting in “stitching” that traces out the stylish lines. The second model is inspired by 500′s DNA and features grey/green camouflage pattern, highlighted by the fluorescent yellow mirror covers.

Only 2015 Fiat 500 Ron Arad will eventually go on sale in Europe, starting from November this year. The car will be delivered to the new owner’s home together with an 1:18 scale model.

  • Fiat intros new Fiat 500 models in North America

    2015-Fiat-500L_thumb2015-Fiat-500L_651

The Fiat brand has long been associated with Italy but since year 2014 the acclaimed and popular car brand has some American blood in its veins. Of course we are talking about the Fiat and Chrysler merger earlier this year when the deal gave Fiat access to the North American market while providing Chrysler with knowledge how to build small and fuel-efficient cars. Thanks to the deal now Fiat introduces new Fiat 500 models in North America.

The Fiat 500 is one of the many legendary cars of Fiat. Introduced in 1957 the first model is often called “the first city car”. Cheap and easy to maintain, the Fiat 500 was in production until 1975 and more than 3 million Fiat 500 cars were sold back in the day. In 2007, exactly 50 years after the launch of the first Fiat 500, the popular car maker introduced an improved and modernized version of the Fiat 500 that is still in production in Europe and Mexico.

    2015-Fiat-Abarth_651

Now customers in the United States will be able to drive the new high-performance 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio as well as take advantage of the all-electric Fiat 500e and the Fiat 500L, which is an all-new five-passenger model that expands the Fiat brand into the growing B-segment.

Let’s take a look at the specs of the new cars. The 2015 Fiat Abarth comes with two transmissions – one 5-speed manual and one 6-speed automatic and a 1.4-liter SOHC 16-valve turbocharged multiair inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 119 kW (162 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque at 2,500-4,000 rpm (with 5-speed manual transmission). The same engine delivers 117 kW (159 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 183 lb-ft (248 Nm) of torque at 2,400-4,000 rpm with the six-speed automatic transmission. The estimated fuel economy is 28/34/31 US mpg (8.4/6.9/7.6 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) with five-speed manual and 24/32/27 US mpg (9.8/7.4/8.7 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) with six-speed manual. The tech specs of the Fiat Abarth Cabrio are the same except that the car does not offer a six-speed automatic transmission and you will have to do with the 5-speed one only.

We do not have information on the 2015 Fiat 500L (if there’s any at all) so we will describe the 2014 Fiat 500L specs – the car is equipped with a 1.4-liter SOHC 16-valve turbocharged multiair inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 119 kW (162 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque at 2,500-4,000 rpm. The car reaches 25/33/28 US mpg (9.4/7.1/8.4 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) fuel economy with the offered six-speed manual transmission and 24/33/27 US mpg (9.8/7.1/8.7 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) of fuel economy with the Euro Twin Clutch six-speed transmission. There’s no information on the Fiat 500e vehicle.

There’s no word on the pricing or the availability dates of the new models as of now.
