  • Ferrari with Best Performance Engine at the 2011 International Engine of the Year Awards

The brilliant 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 powering the Ferrari 458 Italia has won two prizes at the 2011 International Engine of the Year Awards.

The two awards are in categories – Best Performance Engine and Above 4.0-litre. The awards were received by Jean Jacques His, head of Ferrari powertrain department. The jury has also praised the brutal unmistakable sound of the power unit.

The engine is dry-sump, flat-crank 90 degree naturally aspirated V8 with a volume of 4499 cc. It has a high 12.5:1 compression ratio and maximum power output of 570PS. This means an outstanding power output of 127 PS/litre. The red line is at whopping 9000RPM.

The engine also creates a lot of torque – 540Nm at 6000RPM, with over 80% available from 3250RPM. The specific torque output of 120 Nm/l is another record.

Last, but not least, the 4.5 liter V8 produces a best-in-class 275 g/km of CO2 with fuel consumption of just 11.8 l/100 km.

RS Academy, which is one of the best track-driving car clubs, has taken delivery of only the second Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 to leave the factory. The car was taken to victory on its debut outing in the British GT Championship at Oulton Park on April 25th .

458 Italia GT3 is powered by a 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 with 580PS (426 kW) at 9000RPM and 540Nm (400 lb-ft) at 6000RPM with 80% torque available at just 3250RPM. The engine is extremely responsive and builds revs lightningly fast.

It’s this exclusivity which makes RS Academy a unique player in the high-end track day and supercar club market.”, commented RS Academy owner, Rob Stanbury.

  • A 7-year “Ferrari Geniune Maintenance” Programme

Ferrari is taking a huge risk with their special 7-year Genuine Maintenance programme. It covers all the scheduled maintenance for the first seven years, regardless of vehicle mileage. The programme offers services for all new Ferrari California, 458 Italia and FF models.

Furthermore, the Ferrari Genuine Maintenance programme is transferable to a new client in the event of a change of vehicle ownership. It is designed to anticipate one annual service each year during the 7 years, but because of the no mileage restriction, clients who reach the service intervals by mileage, will be able to have their car serviced more than once per year. The service intervals are every 20 000km (12 500miles).

The Ferrari Genuine Maintenance programme will be supplied as standard with all Ferrari California, 458 Italia and FF models delivered from 15 March 2011 and is only available through the official Ferrari service centre network. The programme ensures:

    • cars are maintained in accordance with Ferrari’s recommended schedule
    • safety and environmental standards are maintained thoughout the period
    • enhanced residual values for the original and subsequent owners

Such kind of service is unique and Ferrari will probably attract more clients of luxury supercars than their competitors.
