Riley-Technologies-Dodge-Viper-GT3-R-THUMBWhen the United SportsCar Racing (USCR) season opens in January, Riley Technologies and racer Ben Keating will debut the Dodge Viper GT3-R. The vehicle was built as the first mass-produced GT3-based car designed and manufactured by Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT).
The first one to purchase the SRT Viper GT3-R was Keating and he also wishes to compete full-time in the USCR’s GT Daytona Class in 2014. He will manage a team next to the vice-president of Riley Technologies – Bill Riley. The racing car will carry the number 33.

In fact, the last Viper GT3 car was officially unveiled in 2005 and went on to win two GT3 championships and a World Challenge GT title. Back then the car was based on the GTS-R program, which dates back to 1996.
Currently the team prepares for the first official USCR test in November, while the first time that a car will be put on track will be in October. A public debut of the car is expected at the USCR official test in November.

Riley Technologies is looking forward to building several Viper GT3-Rs over the next several months.

  • 2013 Dodge SRT Viper and Viper GTS [video]

Dodge has announced the two new models – SRT® Viper and SRT Viper GTS. Both are developed by Street and Racing Technology (SRT®) and come with superb performance, superior craftsmanship, new technologies and creature comforts.

This is the fifth generation of the iconic two-seat, American-built supercar has been deliberately evolved to incorporate superior craftsmanship, a host of new technologies and ergonomic improvements while respecting its visceral legacy of outright performance.

    Some of the highlights include:

    • All-aluminum, mid-engine 8.4-liter V-10 delivers an estimated 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world
    • Chassis enhancements bring 50 percent improvement in torsional stiffness
    • Triple-digit weight reduction results in Viper best power-to-weight ratio
    • Standard safety features include electronic multistage stability control, traction control and new 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS)
    • All-new, innovative interior designs set new standards with premium materials, new technologies and superior craftsmanship
    • All-new carbon-fiber and aluminum skin is sculpted for high-speed stability and a slippery .364 drag coefficient (Cd)
    • Timeless exterior design incorporates iconic Viper styling cues with a contemporary execution

“After a gut-wrenching period of uncertainty, the Street and Racing Technology brand team is extremely proud that our hand-built in Detroit, flagship supercar is back and ready to take on the performance car world,” commented Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.

“Beyond being the flagship for the new SRT brand, the launch of the 2013 Viper proves that we simply would not let the performance icon of the Chrysler Group die. Willed to live on by a very special group of performance enthusiasts inside the company and across Viper Nation, this SRT team under our new leadership was challenged to not just continue the legendary Viper, but to create a world-class supercar that would showcase the very best we have to offer.”, he added.

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWNdzvjqRog

The 2013 SRT Viper is powered by a new 8.4 liter all-aluminum, V-10 overhead-valve engine.

It boasts tra-high flow and lightweight composite intake manifold, high-strength forged pistons, sodium-filled exhaust valves, new catalysts to reduce back pressure and an aluminum flywheel that reduces reciprocating losses. More than 25 lbs has been shaved from the fully dressed engine.

The power is insane – 640HP (471 kW) and 813Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque, which makes it the engine with most torque of any naturally aspirated power unit in the world.

To handle all that power, the manufacturer coupled the beast with Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission that has been improved with a shorter throw shifter, closer gear ratios and a final drive ratio that has been shortened to 3.55 from 3.07.

The 2013 Viper models will be more engaging to drive and top speed is now achieved through 6th gear with maximum engine speed (redline) at 6 200RPM.

The braking system is also solid – 4-piston Brembo brakes with fixed-aluminum calipers, and vented rotors with a diameter of 355 mm by 32 mm, are used at all four corners.

The available SRT Track Package features lightweight and slotted two-piece rotors from StopTech.

The 5-spoke, forged-aluminum “Rattler” wheel design on the 2013 Viper model is available with fully polished (standard), fully painted Hyper Black or fully painted low-gloss black finishes.

The Viper GTS has a split 6-spoke forged-aluminum “Venom” wheel design with three available finishes, including polished face with graphite-painted pockets (standard), fully painted Hyper Black or fully painted low-gloss black.

Available SRT Track Package wheels are ultra-lightweight, track-ready wheels in Hyper Black or matte black finishes.

  • Most Collectible Cars from the Present

2013-bugatti-veyron-ThumbHere is a short list of some of the most collectible cars from the present, which in my opinion, are going to cost even more amount of money in the near or distant future. They are unique in several aspects, including style, speed, expense and produced examples of their particular model. Such cars are driven for prestige and are considered as a symbol for high status.

Let’s start with Dodge Viper, which undeniably is one of the most famous cars ever produced. Its production started back in 1992 and continues till now. The vehicle has 6 speed manual transmission which allows the person behind the wheel to experience the excitement of driving. Moreover it is usually equipped with very powerful engine which produces a pleasant roaring sound and in some versions achieves the whole 600 hp (442 kW). Therefore, if you seat behind the steering wheel with the aim to achieve the top speed, then you’ll get up to 202 mph (325 km/h). Undoubtedly, this model is an emblematic one for the American automotive history and I am sure that one day models will cost a lot.

Next comes the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which production started in the near past – in 2009 and since then it is still being produced. Although it has a short history, it is the most powerful Corvette ever made. It includes six speed manual transmission, but unlike the previous discussed vehicle, it can produce the astonishing 638 hp (470 kW) at 6,500 rpm of torque. The top speed here is 205 mph (325 km/h)! It definitely deserves the investment, because it is going to be one of the most desirable collectables in the future.

Here comes the luxury Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren without which the sport car industry wouldn’t be the same. Its production began in the 2003 and lasted till 2010. Unlike the Corvette and the Viper, it has five speed automatic gearbox. Here the Mercedes achieves the 617 hp (454 kW) at 6,500 rpm, but its maximum speed is higher than Corvettes. This vehicle can reach up to 208 mph (335 km/h). And the price as well is far grater than the ZR1’s. The last one costs around $100 000. The Mercedes however, is estimated around $ 450 000. What is so typical and emblematic about this model, are its unmistakable gullwing doors.

    Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
    Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

There is a real rarity present to our attention – the two door coupe named Lamborghini Reventón, which production lasted just one year (from 2008 till 2009). What makes this car so special and priceless is that you can’t see it on the streets very often. And this isn’t due to its high price (which by the way is estimated around $1.6 million dollars), but due to the fact that there is only twenty of it produced! This beauty, has a six speed manual or six-speed paddle shift transmission, and as you expect its engine is a powerful V12 6,5 liter one. Hence, it produces the astonishing 650 hp (478 kW) at 8,000 rpm of torque. The top speed is exactly 211 mph (340 km/h).

Without a doubt a collectible one is Bugatti Veyron, for anyone who can afford it of course. It costs around 1,7 million dollars and since 2005, when it production started, is one of the most appealing cars to the famous people. Its acceleration, which for only 2.5 seconds goes from 0 to 100 km/h, is due to the unbelievable 1001 hp (736 kW) at 6,000 rpm! And not to forget the maximum speed of 268 mph (431 km/h) which makes the car one of the fastest cars in the world! But wait this is not all! The new hyper car model, which is going to make its debut in 2013, will be also powered by the famous 8.0 liter W16 quad-turbo engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Moreover, it is expected to achieve more than 1200 hp (895 kW)! This makes it a real collectable car even before its official release, isn’t it!

  • The Stig in Hennessey ZR1 HPE750 [VIDEO]

Corvette-HPE750-thumbHere is a video of The Stig thrashing a Corvette ZR750 (from Hennessey Performance) and setting a new record Power Lap time without breaking sweat. If you are not familiar, The Stig is the mysterious Top Gear driver who handles the scariest performance cars out there and sets time laps in whatever is given to him. Top Gear is a motoring series franchise with separate shows for Britain, Australia and the US. This one here is the American Stig going through the American Top Gear test track.

The second time round, the ZR750 sets a time of 1.21.4 which “unofficially” surpasses the current Power Lap score-board leader – the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR (1.22.0). That is close. So close in fact, that if it were a real time race, to the common spectator that would have been a neck-a-neck finish. Nevertheless the Corvette has the moral supremacy here. Will they do an official Power Lap, we’ll just have to wait and see.

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqq_ZTdHL94&feature=relmfu

In the mean time here are some specifications of the HPE 750 Vette:

    Power:
    755 bhp @ 6,600 rpm
    728 lb-ft torque @ 4,700 rpm

    Performance:
    0-60 mph: 2.8 sec.*
    1/4 mile: 10.3 @ 139 mph*
    Top Speed: 224 mph

*With optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires

The Hennessey upgrade for the ZR1 includes:

    • A new pulley for the supercharger (up from 9 psi to 13 psi)

  • ZAKSPEED Dodge Viper

In order to go into details about this ZAKSPEED Dodge Viper, we have to review some history about it. Firstly in 2010 the current owner acquired the Viper presented here. Obviously this Zakspeed racing car is stunningly racing-tuned. This tuning was made possible because the Heurich Classics plant (founded in 2006 in the Bavarian Zeitlofs-Rupboden specializing in custom work) was commissioned to convert this Viper. The aim here was to bring this Viper back to the streets and let it shine on an occasion. This time however, the car should be painted not in white, but in its old colors again.

In order to achieve the first goal and to get the racer back to the streets, a strategy will be developed jointly with the Engineering Supervision, which eventually was implemented in the Heurich Classics workshop. What they decided to do is to cut the spoiler, remove the rear diffuser, rebuild the side channels, put new tires and wheels, change the brake system and install a hand brake system with CNC-machined caliper carriers. Further modifications have been made in the steering angle which was increased. Next the cooling system was changed, additional fans were installed, engine peripherals were modified, exhaust system was adapted, electrics and complete light control were changed, seats as well as harness were renewed, passenger seat were installed, and finally the glazing was also renewed.

Their goal was to recreate the Viper in its original Hasseröder design of 1999.Hence the original colors of its time have to be made by means of platinum wrapping foils. These improvements were made by the company Cam Shaft in Kempen.

And for the curious ones, the Viper GTS-R was the car that won firstly the Zakspeed and then Michael Martin Racing Systems. It is not a surprise if you know that it features a 6.2-liter V8 with 600 horsepower (441 kW). Moreover the car is equipped with a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox, KW dampers and a Motec M8 system. And if you take all that into account, you’ll be amazed that it weights only 1350 kg.

  • Mopar 8.4 liter V10 with 800HP at 2011 SEMA

Mopar has created a monstrous entirely new 8.4 liter V10 engine, which was introduced at 2011 SEMA Show.

“SEMA is the perfect platform to introduce some of Mopar’s newest high performance and restoration parts and products,” commented Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar. “If you’re looking for horsepower that can be dropped in or bolted on, the Mopar exhibit area has a full range of small- and big-block products for the enthusiast.

“Mopar has been in the performance business for decades. In fact, the brand really came to life at the track,” he added.

“We are committed to supporting performance enthusiasts. We have an extremely rich product plan that will not only support the more than 5 million HEMI engines in market today and the 30 million Chrysler Group vehicles on the roads across the country, but will also support the products of tomorrow. The engines we are launching are the first of many exciting products to come for both on and off-road needs. We have an amazing track record of fueling enthusiasts and are committed to continuing this legacy.”, Mr. Gorlier finished.

The new 8.4 liter performance V10 produces 811PS (597 kW) and 941Nm (695 lb-ft) of torque. These results are thanks to a number of modifications – a forged steel crankshaft with forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons with a compression ratio of 12.5:1. All rotating components have been balanced for maximum performance at the track. The mighty engine revs up to 7000RPM.
