The new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be delivered at dealerships in the spring. More importantly it will come with improved performance because of the new mounted automatic transmission with the latest General Motors’ improved TapShift technology. Since its introduction, TapShift has allowed drivers to control up- and down-shifts with paddle shifters. Now, GM powertrain engineers made a patent-pending software algorithm which enhances tap response time by up to 60 percent in comparison to the previous system! No hardware changes were required for the upgrade. This upgrade results in the acceleration time of the new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s six-speed automatic transmission, which now for 0-60 mph is 3.9 seconds. This is a tenth of a second faster than the manual transmission time. In details, by staging hydraulic pressure in the clutch for the next gear, the new control module algorithm reduces tap delay for the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5 up-shifts by 200-300 milliseconds. The TapShift system waits for shift requests based on current gear, throttle, torque and speed. By pre-filling the clutch for the next gear, the tap up-shift response is almost momentary. This makes the new Camaro the most powerful production of the model ever, which gets the fullest potential out of the supercharged 6.2L engine that is SAE-rated at 580 horsepower (432 kW) and 556 lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm).
2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Customers of the new ZL1 have the choice between an automatic 6L90 transmission with TapShift manual mode and a six-speed manual transmission, both unmatched in their class. With 0 to 60 taking 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h), the power and acceleration of the ZL1 automatic outstrip many other supercars. The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe will go on sale this spring.

A very special Chevrolet “Military Tribute Camaro” has been auctioned at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. The Achilles Freedom team will benefit from the final bid which reached $175,000. It is an association that helps wounded war veterans to overcome their physical and psychological trauma by engaging them in various sports activities, athletics and marathons.
The 2010 Camaro itself boasts an impressive paint job. It has been done by the renown artist Mickey Harris who has been airbrushing things for 33 years now. He has spent most of his childhood on military installations and one can notice that just by looking at his works.
“The Military Tribute Camaro was designed to honor our armed forces heroes. Now, thanks to its generous new owner, it will help our injured veterans rebuild their lives through the excellent work of the Achilles Freedom Team,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Chevrolet Marketing and Strategy.
The other impressive thing about this car is that before the auction, it has toured over 30 military camps within the USA including the Pentagon. And now, last Sunday its journey ended at the Barrett-Jackson auction with a novel cause.
The whole project was supported by the GM Military Discount Program – one of the most generous military discount programs in the industry. Through it, GM offers GM Preferred Pricing (the same price extended to GM suppliers) on any Chevrolet (except Volt), Buick or GMC.
Other US soldier aid programs, supported by Chevrolet include the Cell Phones for Soldiers – This program provides phone cards to service men and women. In 2011, Chevrolet raised $212,000 (worth 100,000 hours of talk time) from the auction proceeds of a 2012 Honor and Valor Camaro SS and Chevrolet donations of $100 for every car and truck sold during Military Appreciation Month in May. Since 2010, Chevrolet has collected more than 70,000 used cell phones, worth 70,000 hours of talk time. Then there’s the Travis Manion Foundation – named after First Lt. Travis L. Manion who was killed in battle in Iraq 2007, this association has received by GM 250 000$ intended to relief families of fallen soldiers and veterans. There is also a number of events sponsored by GM, which involve active and retired military servicemen annually.

The advertisement called “Chevy Happy Grad” deserves some special attention, indeed. This ad won the Route 66 Super Bowl Ad Contest among 198 other choices. It was created by 26-year old Long Island resident Zach Borst. It will be aired officially during the telecast of Super Bowl XLVI. What is more interesting here is that the ads submitted for this contest gained more than 32 million total online views between December 22 and January 14.
The requirement for the filmmakers was to depict a life’s journey and how Chevrolet is there along the way. “Happy Grad” ad not only answers this requirement but also shows the passion that Chevrolet elicits. Moreover it is hilarious and lot of families can relate to similar situations, where expectations actually don’t meet reality. Some great news for the filmmaker Borst is that the audience on Super Bowl Sunday is expected to exceed 110 million television viewers.
"Chevy Happy Grad Ad"
Borst filmed “Chevy Happy Grad” near his home on Long Island during a weather window that offered Zach, his cast and crew only four hours to complete the project. They did spectacular job, didn’t they! Furthermore is that the story was inspired by his dad’s efforts to buy him a car for his graduation. Although it was used, it was very special gift. This lead Borst to the idea, what it would look like if he got a brand new Camaro as a graduation gift? And this is how the ad was born.
Always pointed as the category cars that gives drivers the most thrilling experience on the road, the convertible rides have walked a long way from the early ragtops with leaky roofs till the nowadays quiet, fast and extremely comfy cabrios. (more…)

2012 Camaro ZL1 manages to beat BMW E92 M3 GTS and Porsche GT3 RS, so the myth about the slow and boring american cars is busted.
Actually, this is an auction price for Camaro ZL 1, which has been sold at the Barrett-Jackson event in Las Vegas. The vehicle was offered by Fairway Chevrolet-Buick-GMC in Las Vegas, with 100 percent of the auction proceeds benefitting the YMCA of Southern Nevada.
Camaro ZL1 is one of the most powerful street legal vehicles in the world. It is powered by a brutal 6.2 liter LSA V8 engine equipped with supercharger. The power is “just” 588PS (432 kW) and 754Nm (556 lb-ft) of torque. What is more, the ZL1 comes with Performance Traction Management and third-generation Magnetic Ride Control.
Rick Hendrick won the special 69th Camaro ZL1 for $250 000. It is finished in Carbon Flash Metallic.
“Our family has been involved with the YMCA for more than 25 years,” said Greg Heinrich, president of Fairway Chevrolet.
“In that time, I have seen firsthand how the ‘Y’ helps young people, families, and seniors in our community. Today, the community’s dependence on the YMCA of Southern Nevada is greater than ever, with the Y sponsoring one out of four members.”, he finished.
Most of you have strong memories from your father’s or grandfather’s car. “One day I will have one for myself”– we thought. Unfortunately most cars have no more than 10 years on the production line meaning that whatever it was that you fancied as a kid is now about 30-40 years old and looks like(or actually is) scrap or costs an amount of money with a lot of zeroes. Luckily someone thought of all these enthusiasts. So, who did?
Chevrolet Camaro
The first Camaro was built back in 1966/1967. Very long front end, massive rear tires and wide arches made the Camaro look really inspiring. It also had engines to make the picture even better. Top versions boasted 8 cylinder engine, 7+ litres and more than 400 hp. How about 5.2 seconds for 0-60 and less than 13 seconds for a quarter mile – impressive results for its time and not only. So back to reality, what is available today? In 2009 the fifth generation Camaro was introduced.
1968 Chevrolet Camaro
Having plenty of new gadgets and modern stuff, it has something very important – the spirit of Camaro – 550 hp, V8 and shares a lot of the curves from its predecessor – same large arches, same aggressive and appealing look – you can simply never mistake this car. If you want to celebrate Camaro’s 45th anniversary, wait for the special edition in 2012 – one-of-a-kind badges, unique interior and something more maybe.
Volkswagen Beetle
This model has about 73 years of history and has played a huge role in German car manufacturing as a whole. This car was ordered by Adolf Hitler and its task was to be a car for the people (Volks Wagen – German). Being almost airtight, this car could even stay afloat for a couple of minutes and its aircooled flat-4 engine turned to be very suitable for the conditions in Africa’s deserts. The beetle was not meant to beat records.
1938 Volkswagen Beetle
The 1200 model was capable of 100 km/h in 37 seconds and the diesel model with 1,3 N/A did 100 in 1 minute! What not too many people know is that the last year of manufacturing of the Beetle as we know it from black and white pictures is 2003 – In Mexico. The entirely new Beetle was announced in 1997 and the design was definitely inspired by the original. Apart from this however it does not share too much – Engine is in the front, the car is FWD. What is more, this is no more a car for the people – the top model costs $ 58 000 – not something everyone can afford.
Mini Cooper
The original was introduced in 1959 and was a great hit back then. This was a really small car with wheelbase of just 2 metres and the FWD set up would save a lot of space for passengers and luggage. There is a reason why this car was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century after the Ford Model T.
1959 Mini Cooper
The weight distribution and the size of the car made it also very successful in sports. Not too many cars have won the Monte Carlo rally 4 times in a row. A famous car magazine awarded the Mini “Car of the century” in 1995. More than 5 000 000 were sold on the market making it the most successful UK car for the moment. The main drawback of the Mini Cooper is its safety – it also has some awards about this – in the negative aspect. In 2000 BMW (the new owner) presented the new Mini. Take a magnifying lens, look at the old one and you will see the new one. Exterior is quite similar, yet the new one is really sleek and has modern curves and styling. In terms of power the new generation offers a good range of engines 75-204 hp. Similar to the original, the new Mini Cooper will try to participate in the world rally championship and be just as successful. Good luck!
A new powerful 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was introduced at the Super Chevy Show at the Palm Beach, Florida International Raceway. The project name is 2011 MOTION Camaro Phase III 427-SC and it is a result of the hard work of Joel Rosen and Howard Tanner of Redline Motorsports.

The 2011 MOTION Camaro Phase III 427-SC will be limited and the price is “just” $150 000.
