  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS Carrera RS 2.7 Tribute

The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS made its first in-person appearance today at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, only two days after its digital world premiere. The show car – customized by the GT Model Line and Style Porsche – is a tribute to the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Additionally, as announced by Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. (PCNA), the car will serve as inspiration for a limited-availability Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur offering exclusive to U.S. customers: a Tribute to Carrera RS Package.

“America is the second home of the 911 and a special tribute exclusive to the U.S. is the perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7,” said Gruner. “So many of us idolized the original 1972 car. We want to create a special experience that combines exclusive options on the new GT3 RS with a one-of-a-kind list of accompanying items. Together, it will be an exciting and individual tribute to the RS lineage. This is a live project in its early stages, and is being created by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts as a joint effort between our colleagues in Zuffenhausen, Flacht and our team in America. The ideas and concepts are really exciting and we’re having a lot of fun developing it – all of us are looking forward to sharing more details with you soon.”

Appropriately for Monterey Car Week, the model on display is extensively personalized. Finished in white with key areas in Python Green, the car is a direct reference to the iconic white and green color configuration offered in 1972 on the first 911 “RS” model as well as a new interpretation of it. In this instance, the body is finished in non-metallic white including side air intakes painted to match with model designation graphics on the sides and rear in Python Green, forged aluminum wheels in Python Green with white pinstripes. Exclusive Design taillights emphasize the green-on-white theme by eliminating the red color from the rear taillights and third brake light. Finally, the side plates on the left and right ends of the large rear wing are painted white with RS logos in Python Green.

“Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur allows customers to personalize their car to a point where the vehicle is as much a reflection of them as it is of Porsche,” said Karl-Heinz Volz, Director of Exclusive Manufaktur Options. “Personalization is a Porsche tradition dating back to our first production model, the 356, when a customer requested a wiper be added to the rear window of their car. Today it is an incredibly extensive personalization program, offering options ranging from small changes to true one-off creations.”

The headlights also feature a pinstripe ring in white, something that is not available via the normal list of factory-available options. The color combination continues inside the car with matching stitching, trim panels in white to match the exterior.

“As a car enthusiast growing up, my walls were plastered with models that I was particularly fond of. One of the most influential was the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. As a young kid it captured me imagination and even today it puts a smile on my face,” said Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Model Lines. “That’s where the styling inspiration of the 996 GT3 RS came from, which was one of my first projects at Porsche. At the time, that car felt totally extreme so colors nodding to the forefather made sense. Today, it’s a very emotional moment for me to pay tribute to the first 911 RS model with our most extreme and capable 911 GT3 RS yet.”

    About the 2023 911 GT3 RS
The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the most extreme street-legal 911 model yet. Its 4.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer six-cylinder engine generates 518 hp, and revs to 9,000 rpm. That power is routed exclusively to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Making extensive use of motorsport-derived aerodynamics, it generates more than 900 lbs. of downforce at 124 mph and 1,895 lbs of downforce at 177 mph. This is also the first example of a 911 GT3 RS with active aerodynamics, a feature that is used to offer incredible levels of downforce, provide deceleration assistance by creating an air brake, and by offering a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that can reposition aerodynamic elements to cut drag at the driver’s command in certain conditions.

    About the 1972 / 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7
Fifty years ago, the world knew the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 as Germany’s fastest sports car. It began as a homologation special and featured many technological innovations. It was the most powerful version of the first-generation 911, generating 210 PS at 6,300 rpm and 188 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,100 rpm from its air-cooled flat-six developed by Hans Mezger and Valentin Schäffer.

A more potent engine was only part of the success story. Much like the new 911 GT3 RS, wind tunnel testing and aerodynamic science introduced never-before-seen technology to the 911. The ducktail, now as much an icon of style as an element of function, was critical in achieving stability at high speeds. Not only did it unlock the ability to drive faster, but it did so without incurring additional drag. In fact, it reduced the drag coefficient.

  • 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America edition announced

2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America

Porsche will offer a special, market-specific sports car with the “America” moniker. The new 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America will reach showrooms in late 2022 as part of the 2023 model year. A very limited number will be created, making this one of the rarest Type 992 models.

Its arrival marks the continuance of a tradition that began in 1952: offering an open top, enthusiast-focused sports car made specifically for the North American market. The new model – revealed during the 2022 Porsche Parade in Poconos, Pa. – is based on the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, and features the same high performance chassis and powertrain as that model. Emphasizing its focus on driving pleasure, it is exclusively available with a seven-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

“Passion for driving a Porsche runs deep in the United States. In particular, there is something special about hitting the road in an open top 911 with a manual transmission that fits perfectly here,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. “This is also the perfect time to add another ‘America’ model to our story as we look back on 70 years since the 356 America Roadster and 30 years since the 964 America Roadster.”

A high performance sports car for open top driving enthusiasts
The new 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter boxer six-cylinder engine to generate 473 hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport is standard equipment, and lowers the ride height by 10 mm while adding helper springs to the rear axle. Sport Exhaust and the Sport Chrono Package are also both standard equipment. Rear axle steering and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are available as added cost options. The standard cast iron brake rotors measure 408 mm (16 inch) in front with six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 380 mm (14.9 inch) rotors in the rear with four-piston fixed aluminum calipers finished in black.

    Styling by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur

Aesthetic changes applied by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur make this a striking sports car both from a distance and up close. The exterior color, Azure Blue 356, was inspired by the 1953 356 America Roadster. Through Paint to Sample Plus, the color is revived and reserved for this special vehicle in the 2023 model year. The windshield frame is finished in Satin Black. RS Spyder Design Wheels are specially-finished with the interior portion of the spokes in white, the outermost flat surfaces in silver and a Guards Red pinstripe along the edge of the rim.

Along the doors, decals in white with Guards Red accents read “America” while the model designation on the rear features “911 Carrera” in white and “GTS” in Guards Red.

Cross stitching in Guards Red with surrounding stitching in Pebble Grey continue the color combination through the cabin, including along the upper dashboard and door panels. Two-tone stitching in Guards Red and Pebble Grey continue the contrast on the center console armrest where “America” is embossed in the leather. Unique illuminated door sill plates commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 356 America Roadster are also included as standard equipment, along with a leather interior in black, seat belts in Guards Red, the tachometer and instrument cluster in white and a heated GT Sport steering wheel.

An optional extended interior package continues this theme with a 12 o’clock marking in Guards Red to the steering wheel and Guards Red cross stitching on the inside edge of the wheel. This package also adds two-tone stitching to the shift boot and adds a gear pattern on the manual lever in Guards Red. Sport Seats Plus with double stitching in Guards Red and Pebble Grey with “911” stitching on the headrests in Guards Red and the leather backrest release loops in the same color. The floor mats also gain the same two-tone stitching in Guards Red and Pebble Grey. Finally, the vehicle key is painted in Azure Blue 356 to match the car, and a leather key pouch with two-tone stitching and “America” embossment completes the package.

    Pricing and Availability

The 2023 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America is expected to arrive at U.S. dealers in late 2022 and will carry a starting MSRP of $184,920 excluding $1,450 for delivery, processing, and handling. Including the extended interior package, MSRP is $192,430 also excluding $1,450 for delivery, processing and handling.

  • Porsche announces details for 2020 911 Carrera models

2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4Just like all 2020 911 Carrera models, new 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet come with tons of new features and similar technological tweaks.

New models are geared with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat six power unit, which is fitted with model-specific turbochargers. This system generates a total of 379hp and 331lb-ft of torque. Fitted with an 8-speed PDK gearbox, the 2020 911 Carrera 4 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in mere 4.0 seconds. However, when equipped with the exclusive Sport Chrono Package, the sprint finishes in 3.8 seconds.

Furthermore, new family members are equipped with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management). And just like all other 2020 models, these two beauties adopt the electronically variable damping system with selectable driving modes. • Convertible roofs: How to ensure longevity

Porsche Carrera Convertible There are some trends that come and go in the automobile industry, but it would be fair to say that convertible roofs don’t fall into this category. They have survived the test of time and it appears as though they are here for the long-term.

However, if you haven’t owned a convertible in the past, this is a completely different beast when it comes to maintenance. The typical Sunday morning wash doesn’t suffice here; you need to take great care with the roof to ensure that it stays in optimum condition.

Bearing this in mind, let’s take at some of the key maintenance points to keep in mind if you do own a vehicle which has a convertible roof.

You don’t have to always keep the roof down

If you own one of the classic convertibles, like the Carrera, it can be almightily tempting to keep the roof open at all times. When you are cruising around the highways this should be expected, but when it is being stored in your garage it’s not quite as necessary.

There’s no doubt that these vehicles are built to the upmost standards, but it can be better for them if you at least store them with their roofs completely closed. When the roof is left open, the mechanics can start to strain and potentially deform over time. It can lead to a visit to a Porsche repair center eventually; which is obviously not the desired result for any car owner.

    Beware of the snow-factor

Something else that you need to keep an eye on is the snow. Of course, this isn’t going to apply to everyone, but if you do reside in an area which receives a lot of snow this is something else that can wreak havoc with your convertible roof.

This isn’t necessarily due to the fact that snow happens to be very cold, either. It’s more related to the sheer weight of it; this is something that will weigh down heavily on your roof and can ultimately cause it to deform over time.

    Take the appropriate maintenance steps

Let’s not forget that most of these roofs are constructed from vinyl, which is a textile. As such, you need to have a regular maintenance plan.

Generally, such a plan will involve washing it on a weekly basis. Performing the task by hand will work the best, but a car wash can suffice as well. If you can do this regularly, you can ensure that any debris that lands on the roof isn’t going to leave permanent damage.

Don’t let your car succumb to dust

Finally, we’ve spoken about all sorts of remnants that can find their way onto your roof, but let’s conclude by talking about dust. If you are storing your vehicle away for the season, it’s a good idea to not only keep the roof closed, but cover it as well. This can prevent dust from emerging on it, which can also impact its lifespan.

  • 2019 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S hit the roads: here’s what to expect!

2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S Eighth generation of Porsche 911 is finally here! Faster, more advanced and fraught with cutting-edge technologies, new family member has a lot to demonstrate to both enthusiasts and critics. On the eve of LA Auto Show, Porsche team reveals a vehicle with a well-known and yet revised design, classic Porsche DNA and yet new features and this very same and menacing Porsche spirit.

New 911 comes with a choice of six turbocharged engines that deliver a total of 443hp for the S modes and benefit from improved injection process and new layout for turbochargers and intercoolers. Also, new powertrain units are mated to a revised eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox that is not only more efficient, but also contributes to improved power distribution and improved driving dynamics. There’s also a new Wet driving mode, which increase driver’s awareness on wet roads. In fact, drivers will also benefit from new Porsche Communication Management system with large 10.9-inch touchscreen design and new sporty seats. Cool!

Now, let’s talk about the engineering solutions, shall we?

The turbocharged flat-six engine is one of the most powerful to date and requires as little as 3.5-seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100km\h (62mph). This means that the new guy is 0.4 seconds faster than predecessors and 0.6, when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top track speeds have been measured at 191mph for Carrera S and 190 for the AWD version. At the moment there’s no manual transmission option, but such will be added to the personalization list at later date.

    Design and expression

    2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S

Exterior body language remains true to its Porsche roots, but it is definitely different, compared to other 911 machines. There are way more wide wheel housings over large 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. The front is wider and more muscular, while the rear remains tight and clean, as one would expect from a premium sports car. new additions are the electric door handles, revised LED headlights, front luggage compartment lid with pronounced contours and wider rear spoiler for that seamless and elegant design.

  • Even the mightiest of cars should bear good tires. Here’s why!

Are Your Tires too Old to Be Driving on?

Of all your car’s parts, its tires have the greatest effect on the way it handles and brakes. Unfortunately, failures of older tires have resulted in fatalities. Thus, it’s important to keep an eye on your tires! The investigation into the accident’s cause that killed actor Paul Walker in 2013 revealed that the Porsche Carrera GT he was riding in had nine-year-old tires. The California Highway Patrol indicated that the tires’ age may have compromised how they handled.

For years, drivers have relied on the tread depth to judge the condition of a tire. But the rubber compounds in a tire wear out with time, regardless of the tread’s condition. An old tire can be a safety hazard. For some people, old tires will never be a problem. If you drive somewhere around 12,000-15,000 miles each year, a tire’s tread may wear out in three to four years, before the rubber compound does. But if you only drive around 6,000 miles a year, aging tires may be an issue.

Rubber bands may illustrate the point. Everyone knows that rubber bands age poorly and will develop cracks within a couple of years. That’s essentially what happens to a tire. Cracks in their rubber start to develop over time. They may appear on the surface and inside the tire, too. This cracking can eventually cause the tread’s steel belts to separate from the rest of the tire. Hard use can accelerate the process.

How to determine a tire’s age

SEE ALSO: speedART team showcases a neatly revised Porsche vehicle. Check it out!

Tires made after the year 2000 have a four-digit DOT code. The first two numbers represent the week of the year in which the tire was made. The second two represent the year of make. A tire with a DOT code of 1207 was made in 2007’s 12th week. Check tires once in a while for any sign of aging, such as tread distortion, or small or large hairline cracks in the sidewall. According to the Service manager at Hiley Mazda of Hurst, a local full-service car dealer in Hurst, TX, vibrations may also be an indicator of aging problems.

How long a tire lasts for

If living in a warm climate, you may want to pay special attention to your tires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that tires deteriorate quicker in warmer climates than cooler ones. Do you live near the coast? Keep that in mind when monitoring the condition of your tires. Are you using a spare tire? Well, avoid storing it in the trunk. It will get really hot in there.

However, the NHTSA doesn’t have any specific guidelines on tire aging and defers to the recommendations of tire manufacturers and car makers. Some carmakers such as Mercedes-Benz and Nissan tell people to replace tires six years after their production date, regardless of their tread life. A few tire manufacturers, such as Continental and Michelin, say that a tire can last up to ten years when a driver has all the proper maintenance done as per their vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation.

Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet by Porsche Exclusive Exterior Porsche Exclusive has introduced a very special edition of the facelift version of the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. The car that you see features characteristic styling and interior design that hasn’t been used in other Porsches before. And it perfectly exemplifies the personalization options that the company is offering for the 911.

    The Design

The Carrera S Cabriolet is dressed in Jet Black Metallic exterior color, which is contrasted by red brake calipers behind the 20-inch light gray multi-spoke alloys. But the real magic happens inside the car and it actually gives hints to some of the styling features that Porsche will include in its new model year vehicles.

The interior is adorned by elegant leather in Espresso color. Giving a luxurious feel is the wood trim, that has been used for the steering wheel, dashboard, door panels, center console and gearshift lever. This isn’t the typical trim that one uses for a sporty car such as the 911, however it gives a perfect example of how versatile a 911 Carrera Cabrio might look.

In addition, the interior of this particular example comes with Porsche crest embossed on the central armrest. Other contrasts are provided by the metallic accents all around the cabin.

Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet by Porsche Exclusive Interior

    Carrera 911 Capabilities

There is nothing changed regarding the engine, so this means that this 911 Carrera S Cabriolet’s 3.0 litre six-cylinder engine generates 420 hp (309 kW) and 499 Nm (368 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This force is transferred to the rear wheels and managed with the help of the standard seven-speed manual transmission.

As an option, Porsche offers seven-speed PDK, which has the advantage of better acceleration time (especially when equipped with the Sport Chrono pack). Precisely, the vehicle runs from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 187 mph (301 kph). Without the pack and with the standard transmission the time rises to 4.4 seconds.
