  • Acura Releases More Technical Details on the Super Cool NSX

Acura NSX Technical SketchAcura just released more details on the NSX and I am super excited about that, because this happens right before the market launch of the car. The reason for the disclosed information were the engineers, who lead the development of NSX and have shared more technical details and design strategies two days ago at the SAE 2015 World Congress and Exhibition. At the base of the working process was the goal to create a “New Sports Experience”, which required a totally new approach in the body construction, engine development and manufacturing technologies.

So, Acura has used for the first time an innovative multi-material space frame design, which you can view in the gallery below. The result is excellent body rigidity mixed with light weight. In the process of achieving this, the engineers have applied for the first time ablation casting technology, which not only ends in a better rigidity, but also promises exceptional handling and control.

Another first use here is the three-dimensional and ultra-high-strength steel A-pillar, which also supports the high level of the rigidity, crash performance and at the same time delivers great outward visibility.

In terms of aerodynamics, the NSX probably scores the best among all. Note that this happens without the utilization of active aerodynamic elements. In support comes also the three-motor Sport Hybrid power unit, which is cooled through 10 heat exchangers, due to the application of a general airflow management strategy. This optimizes the flow of air around and through the beautiful NSX.

As we know already the car is driven by a twin-turbocharged 75-degree DOHC V6 engine mated to nine-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) and three-electric motor Sport Hybrid system. The news here is that the twin turbo unit has been confirmed to be 3.5-liters. It will also use racing technology, which will apply both direct and port injection to its design. In addition, the NSX will show one of the highest torque capacities in company’s history, due to the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.

In fact, Super Handling is the last announced super-cool feature that the car will be equipped with. It will proactively respond to driver inputs. This in turn will allow the vehicle achieve more in the line trace and give a substantial support in the changing driving environments.

Everything sounds very exciting, doesn’t it?

And one of the best news is that the starting price of the 2016 model is almost the same as the 2015 model.

The 2016 5-seater SUV machine brings even more power and higher-rate performance. RDX is geared with a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine and it is refreshed with some weight and handling tweaks and, as expected, the list with technology units is expanded.

The inside of the RDX is restyled and brings lots of well-known features and additional technology, that together make the cabin a really comfortable and lovely place. Some of the goodies are the 8-way adjustable seats, the special dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Informational Display (ODMD), HD radio, outdoor cameras and a blind spot information system.

The Advance Package comes with 18″ alloy wheels, fog lights, parking sensors nad additional display monitors. All the RDX models could be further equipped with the AcuraWatch suite, that brings even more safety features. • Acura to Display ILX Endurance Racer in New York

Acura ILX NASA Endurance Racer Side and Front ViewNorth American International Auto show was the first to display the gorgeous 2016 Acura NSX Supercar, powered by a twin-turbocharged 75-degree DOHC V6 engine and a three-electric motor Sport Hybrid system. Now, there is another event in which the ultra-performance vehicle will take part and it is (of course) this one in New York. Next to it, at the Acura stand will shine the TLX GT that has just won this year’s Pirelli World Challenge, as well as the new ILX endurance race car.

Well, the last model is actually the big debut for the brand in NY. It has been never shown before and was developed for a severe competition. For this purpose, the ILX is equipped with modified engine, and also features new chassis and suspension. Even the interior was changed and wrapped in stock-like bodywork.

The endurance racer was developed with the only purpose: Victory in the 25 Hours of Thunder Hill race. There it will run for the first place competing Porsche, BMW, and other strong brands, so we wish it luck and hope for a positive outcome.

Next to the first appearance of the ILX, and the production NSX twin-turbo hybrid supercar, Acura will also display two SUVs: the RDX and MDX, and three sedans: the ILX sport one and the updated luxury RLX, and the best-selling TLX.

  • More Goodies for 2016 Acura MDX

Acura upgraded significantly the 2016 MDX SUV. The updated luxury vehicle launches in March and it will feature various new features and technologies as well as new powertrain options and an expanded model range. All trim levels will be equipped as a standard with the nine-speed automatic transmission which will assist the 3.5-liter, 24-valve i-VTEC direct-injected V-6 engine. The transmission features Sequential SportShift and is 66 lbs lighter than the previous six-speed automatic.

The shift lever which was previously console-mounted is now replaced with a fully electronic, shift-by-wire gear selector. The driver can select Park, Neutral and Drive modes with the push of a button. Reverse is selected by pulling back on a dedicated switch.

For those who want to manually select gears, Acura kept the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Furthermore, the MDX is also fitted with company’s next-generation Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). It uses lighter weight (by 19 lbs.) twin-clutch rear differential and progressively distributes torque between the front and rear axles, and between the left and right rear wheels.

MDX with Technology Package models can be equipped with the AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. These include Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor. In addition, the Advance Package comes as a standard with AcuraWatch.

At the heart of AcuraWatch is the combination of camera and radar technology.

Working together, the camera and radar can sense the roadway and objects within it, including other vehicles and pedestrians, thus helping avoid or mitigate the severity of a collision.

Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning are offered as standard equipment on the MDX with Technology Package. All MDX models come equipped with a Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines.

Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) uses a Monocular Camera that is mounted on the upper portion of the windshield. It identifies solid or dashed painted lane lines, Botts’ Dots and Cat Eye markers. RDM utilizes both steering force, via EPS, as well as braking force, via VSA, to help the MDX stay a detected lane. Versatile visual and audible warnings alert the driver when the RDM system is taking corrective action.

Rear Cross Traffic Monitor is the next new assistive technology which is featured in the AcuraWatch. RCTM works in conjunction with the Blind Spot Information (BSI) radar sensors. Both improve driver’s confidence when parking.

Next, the 2016 MDX also adds frameless rearview mirror, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition and an easy-entry/exit driver’s seat that moves 35 mm rearward when the driver’s door is opened. There is also a TPMS fill assist that applies audible alert in the case when the driver inflates the tire to the correct pressure.

2016 Acura MDX has a starting of $42,865 USD.

  • Salute the Next-Gen Acura NSX! [VIDEO]

Acura has finally taken the wraps off its icon, the 2016 NSX supercar, at the North American International Auto Show. Twenty-five years after the debut of the original model, the new NSX comes to make a huge shift in our understanding of sports cars! The production model comes in shiny red finish and is driven by a twin-turbocharged 75-degree DOHC V6 engine mated to nine-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) and three-electric motor Sport Hybrid system. All of this is imbibed in rigid and lightweight multi-material body.

The iconic car has been developed under the concept of a “human-centered supercar”. This means that it puts the driver first in every aspect of its design. Next to the hybrid power unit, the body and chassis deliver exceptionally intuitive and immediate response to driver inputs.

The body of this fantastic car has low and wide proportions coupled with contemporary and aggressive front design and tail lights. Every element of the exterior has been optimized and modified with the aim of perfection, including the hood vents, front fender vents, side air intakes, and the deck spoiler.

When it was introduced for the first time, the NSX was world’s first all-aluminum supercar. The new NSX includes an innovative new multi-material body design with world’s-first material applications and construction processes.

To be more precise, the body uses a space frame design. This is an internal frame constructed of aluminum, ultra-high strength steel and other advanced materials. Anchored by a carbon fiber floor, torsional and bending forces are taken up entirely by this structure. The body panels are composed of a combination of aluminum and sheet molding composite.

Inside, the NSX offers exceptional forward visibility, simplicity and intuitiveness in terms of controls, and exceptional ergonomics. The instrument cluster features a dynamic TFT display, while the center console holds the Power button that readies the sport hybrid powertrain.

What is more, the supercar utilizes a fully independent, all-aluminum front and rear suspension. It puts its significant amount of power down through ContiSportContact high-performance tires. They come in dimensions of 245/35Z R19 at the front and 295/30Z R20 at the rear, and are coupled with 19×8.5 inch front and 20×11 inch rear aluminum alloy wheels.

The braking performance is provided by 6-piston front and 4-piston rear monoblock calipers squeezing ultra-high performance carbon-ceramic brake discs. Handling is greatly improved by Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD), which enables lightning-quick response to all driver inputs.

2016 Acura NSX has been specifically created to bring a “new sports experience” to the supercar segment. It challenges conventional beliefs about supercars that we have. Acura will begin accepting custom orders for the new NSX in the summer, while the first customer deliveries are expected later in the year.

  • Acura Shares First Glimpses at 2016 NSX Production Model [VIDEO]

As a huge fan of Honda the next news are extremely exciting for me! And it is not “a big deal” unless you have been waiting to see the production version of the highly anticipated 2016 Acura NSX supercar. Yes, that’s right! The successor of the legendary original NSX is scheduled to make its global debut on 12th of January at the next edition of the North American International Auto Show. The model will not only include the styling cues of its predecessor but also will be a real example of the production car, which his slated to launch in 2015.

Acura has released four images giving not so vague idea of what we are to expect. In addition, there is also a new video called “My Way” which comes to promote the NSX. The 30-second teaser video shares an early glimpse of the production car and the sound of its three-motor, twin-turbocharged Sport Hybrid power unit. You can view the film below.

In addition, the Japanese company is promising that the NSX is destined to deliver a ‘new sports experience’. The new model will serve as the ultimate expression of Acura performance that is fueling a reenergized brand.

The NSX concept model was revealed for the first time at the same show in 2012. After three years of intensive development Acura is finally displaying the next-gen supercar. What we have also understood is that the team behind this project has developed a human-centered supercar that responds to the driver’s will and that builds upon the NSX heritage.

  • 2016 Acura ILX Gets Teased Ahead of Los Angeles Reveal

2016 Acura ILX is getting readied for an official reveal at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. With this entry Acura is aiming to bring higher standard in the entry-premium sedan segment. The expansion in the general appeal of the car includes a comprehensive update that features a strong new powertrain, more forceful and muscular sporty exterior styling as well as entirely upgraded interior design.

Just like in the TLX model, Acura will give the upcoming 2016 ILX sharper performance focus and at the same time – greater comfort, convenience and safety. The brand didn’t reveal much more details, except for the teaser image of the rear of the car you see. The official unveiling of the ILX will happen on 20th of November at the event.

Judging by the released image it looks like the brand is getting more aggressive about moving the ILX away from its Civic roots. In fact, it also seems like it wants to turn the new model in to Acura’s future luxury car.

What we can expect in terms of power is that the new ILX will draw more of its powertrain. We don’t know whether it will be a new one or just a boosted old one. As a reminder, the previous generation ILX is driven by a 2.0 liter i-VTEC.

This unit produces 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque, and is coupled with a five-speed automatic gearbox (5AT). When equipped with the Technology Package or Premium Package, the car gets the more potent 2.4 liter i-VTEC engine that generates 201 horsepower (148 kW), and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

More details are expected to be revealed ahead of the debut, so stay tuned!

2015-Acura-TLX-THUMBThe mass-production of the 2015 Acura TLX has just begun at the Marysville Auto Plant. The new performance luxury sedan is scheduled to hit the dealerships across the United States in August. The car was designed, developed and engineered by R&D teams in Ohio and Los Angeles. However, it has been exclusively built in Ohio. TLX looks just great. It combines the sports-sedan athleticism typical for Acura (Honda) with the luxury-sedan refinement.

This Acura vehicle will be driven by either of two powerful and efficient direct-injected engines: the 206 horsepower (151 kW) 2.4-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder, and a 290 horsepower (213 kW) 3.5-liter SOHC V-6 unit. Both are both produced locally.

The first one is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (8DCT) with torque converter, while the second comes mated to the nine-speed automatic transmission (9AT). There are also two next-generation Acura precision-handling technologies included: Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).

Innovations to the manufacturing process that are to be used include a roll hemming technology which allows for more exquisite vehicle styling, as well as the application of new sound-deadening materials which deliver ultra-quiet cabin of the TLX.

Standard equipment in the TLX features LEDs at the front, rearview camera, Hill Start Assist and push button ignition. Inside, there is a 7” infotainment system, heated and ventilated front seats, LED interior lighting, automatic climate control, 10-speaker 455-watt Acura ELS Premium Audio System. In terms of safety this Acura includes Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
