  • The Last Fourth-Generation BMW M3 Coupe

BMW-M3-Coupe-651-THUMBThe production of the two-door BMW M3 Coupe has officially ended ant in fact the orange car you see above is the last one of the series. However, the racing career of the model continues, since the car achieves one victory after another.

In fact, the high-performance sports car won DTM and American Le Mans Series. Now it is ending its career on the “legal” road after more than 40 000 examples have left the factory. Nevertheless, the M3 Convertible powered by a V8 engine will still be in production until September this year.

BMW M3 has a long history in racing which started in 1986. The fourth generation of the iconic model included the innovative technology that resulted in more intense driving, athletic design, hallmark M precision and top-class performance capability. As a matter of fact, up too date have been built 40 000 units of the coupe, 10 000 units of the Sedan and just under 16 000 units of the Convertible.

What is common between the three body variants is their powertrain and chassis technology, which stems directly from motor sport. Under their hood one can find the 4.0-liter V8 engine which has cylinder banks positioned at a 90-degree angle to one another.

It produces output of 414 hp (305 kW) and generates peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and revs to a maximum 8,400 rpm. Numerous construction details, such as the electronically controlled individual throttle butterflies, ion current knock control and dynamically optimized oil supply, were taken straight from motor racing.

Furthermore, a lightweight chassis was specifically developed for the M3. It included a front axle secured to the body by an aluminum stiffening plate and a five-link rear axle with hollow-tube anti-roll bar and forged aluminum axle control arms. In addition they were complemented by a rack-and-pinion steering system with M-specific Servotronic and the variable M differential lock.

As a standard the fourth-generation BMW M3 was fitted with a high-performance compound braking system and optionally one could chose three-mode Electronic Damper Control system and M DCT with Drivelogic. The intelligent lightweight construction of the model played a crucial role in addition to the aluminum hood and plastic fenders and carbon roof in lowering the weight of the car.

Several special editions of the coupe were offered in United States, including the Frozen Grey, Frozen Black and Frozen Silver Editions as well as Frozen Red, Frozen While and Frozen Blue Editions. However, on the top was the Lime Rock Park Edition which was finished in Fire Orange, which honored the M3’s home track in the US and celebrated nearly 20 years of racing success.

  • Caterham Seven 620R Revealed And To Make Debut At Goodwood Festival of Speed

Caterham-Seven-620R-THUMBAfter Caterham Cars teased its most extreme Seven in the end of May, now the car is ready to be fully revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend (July 12-14). The model will mark the 40 years of developing and building the Seven.

With it the brand is re-inventing the already enviable parameters of its emblematic model through this Seven 620R and will set a new benchmark in the outstanding performance. The car is equipped with a brand new two-litre supercharged Ford Duratec engine, which is able of generating 310 hp (228 kW).

Thanks to this amount of power, Caterham Seven 620R is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in even less than 2.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 155 mph. In fact, this puts the 620R at the top of the current range, replacing the legendary Superlight R500.

The car will be driven by the Caterham F1 Team driver Charles Pic up the famous Goodwood hill at the Festival of Speed. In addition, a static version of the new model will also be included on brand’s stand at the event alongside other performance vehicles.

620R is the most hardcore production Seven ever built for the road. In addition, it emphasizes Catherhams philosophy of delivering ‘accessible fun’ and the traditional Caterham minimalistic, lightweight approach of engineering.

Furthermore, the models also benefits from several other new enhancements such as unique gunmetal chassis, an air-flow optimized nose cone, race-developed cooling package, De Dion rear suspension, wide track front suspension units and high-performance dampers. In addition 620R rides on lightweight 13” alloy wheels fitted with track-inspired Avon ZZR tyres.

In the cockpit one can see many enhancements featured including performance-focused instrumentation and ergonomic switchgear. There are also noticeable carbon fibre interior panels, dash plus carbon fibre race seats and a Q/R race steering wheel.

While the launch edition of Caterham Seven 620 features the sportier ‘R’ pack, a slightly less hardcore ‘S’ pack will deliver all the power of the original but will also include more accessibility. The ‘S’ pack will be launched later this year.

  • BMW Alpina B6 vs Lamborghini LP-560-4, BMW M6 G-Power, BMW X6 M and GT-R 1200

A stock BMW Alpina B6 F13 made some drag starts versus some powerful vehicles – BMW M6 G-Power SK III with 750HP, BMW X6 M PP-Performance Stage 4 – 760HP, a stock Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and a superfast Nissan GT-R Mk.1 DT 1200 R with 1200HP. The Alpina B6 F12 has only 540HP and it is not exactly the perfect car for 1 mile race.

The first start is versus the M6 G-Power, which did 30.499 seconds and a terminal speed of 283 km/h. The Alpina B6 finished in 31.168 seconds with 272 km/h.

The second start is against X6 M PP-Performance, which is winner of 3rd place in SUV Class 2013. The big SAC finished in 28.837 seconds with 279 km/h.

Versus the Gallardo, the Alpina lost again. The Lamborghini finished in 30.095 seconds with speed of 275 km/h.

The last start is doomed, because the GT-R has more than twice power compared to the B6 F12. The DT 1200 R finished in 25.362 seconds with 321 km/h.

  • Lexus Launches 2014 IS 250, 350 And 300h Sedans

Lexus has just launched the long awaited third generation of the highly successful 2014 versions of the IS 250 and IS 350 sedans. The model line-up includes also the F Sport variants across the range and the new IS 300h hybrid model.

The exclusive new rear-wheel drive models now have longer, wider platform with a 60/40 rear-fold split seat, innovative on-board features and a more rigid body. This is made possible thanks to the new construction techniques that the brand has used for the architecture of the car. The technologically advanced IS models are further complemented by an entirely redesigned interior and exterior, including the Lexus’ trademark spindle grille.

In addition, the F Sport models have more rigid platform thus delivering improved driving dynamics. Their steering and chassis is modified via an adaptive variable suspension system teamed to the new drive mode select feature.

What also differentiates the F Sport models are the bespoke interior and exterior styling packages, in which are included the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, grille, wheels and badging.

All of the IS models will also be equipped with wide range of standard equipment, such as pop-up hood, drive mode select, Lexus Remote Touch, tyre pressure warning sensors, eight airbags, satellite navigation, reversing camera, smart entry and start, and heated and ventilated front seats.

What is more, the vehicles now have increased in length of 75 mm. This results in an enhanced rear-seat legroom and greater boot space. The Lexus Enform telematics system on the other hand will provide the driver and occupants with a range of connected services like Enform Concierge (which connects to Lexus Customer Care centre, Drive Care, Lexus Dealers and Destination Assist), Destination Download, Fuel Finder, Local Search and Weather (which offers live search of current and forecast weather conditions for any chosen location.).

IS 250, IS 350 and IS 300h hybrid model will have engines mated to unique transmission (depending on the unit), and for instance the IS 350’s one will be matched with an eight-speed transmission.

Under the hood of the 2014 Lexus IS 250 one can find a 2.5-litre all-alloy V6 unit which generates 208 hp (153 kW) and 252 Nm (186 lb-ft) of torque. It is mated to a six-speed sequential transmission with throttle blipping and fast shift capabilities.

Next, the IS 350 models produce 317 hp (233 kW) and 378 Nm (279 lb-ft) thanks to their all-alloy 3.5-litre V6 powerplant matched to a new eight-speed transmission. In addition, this model also benefits from a wider spread of gears and the addition of IS F-style shift logic with quick shift and throttle blipping.

On the other hand, IS 300h’s 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powerplant generates a combined power output of 223 hp (164 kW), but still manages consuming only 4.9-litres of fuel per 100km, while emitting just 113g of CO2 per kilometre.

The new hybrid powerplant is matched with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (E-CVT), offering six-step shift logic and paddle shift. Thanks to the dubbed ‘shift-matic’, the new transmission reacts more quickly to driver inputs and road conditions to offer greater response and control.

2014 Lexus IS models will be available from mid-July.

  • 2014 Suzuki Swift SZ4 4×4 Model Introduced

2014-Suzuki-Swift-SZ4-4x4-THUMB2014 Suzuki Swift SZ4 4×4 is being introduced to the European continent after its huge success in Japan. The strong heritage the brand has for 4WD models will make this Swift a true on-road icon.

The model will be offered as a five door 1.2 petrol model with manual transmission and equipped as either an SZ3 or SZ4 grade. Furthermore, the innovations around it include the new badging and the slightly increased body ride height of 25 mm. This makes the SZ3 the same in terms of ride height as the SZ3 five door.

Next to it, the SZ4 model has a more aggressive appearance and in addition delivers enhanced protection over rough ground. This is achieved via the new front and rear skid plates, black wheel arch extensions and black side skirts.

2014 Suzuki Swift SZ4 4×4 is equipped with the well established and simple fully automatic and permanent 4-wheel drive system. The latter transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when required via a viscous coupling. This in turn, further improves highly acclaimed cornering ability of the vehicle.

The aforementioned details makes the car the perfect choice for those who live in rural areas and need more mobility, or for crossing slippery surfaces during winter without owning a larger and more conventional SUV sized vehicle.

Moreover, Suzuki has utilized in this model small and lightweight components, which make it just 65 kg heavier than an equivalent 2WD petrol model. The result is that the SZ4 4×4 delivers only 126 g/km of CO2 emissions. SZ4 model now also includes power folding door mirrors with integral indicators and Daylight Running Lamps as standard equipment.

  • 2014 Range Rover Sport vs Spitfire [video]

Land Rover has published a promotional video of their all-new Range Rover Sport versus a 1945 Vickers Supermarine Spitfire.

The SUV is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops 510HP (380 kW), while the plane has a 1,750HP (1,305 kW) V12 Merlin engine and a top speed of 644 km/h (400 mph).

The race – the first of its kind at the airfield – involved a drag race down and back on the grass runway, punctuated by a nimble U-turn. It was particularly challenging being conducted on the bumpy grass airfield, a surface which is notorious for low traction levels.

“The team couldn’t resist the challenge laid down byFortyOneSix.comand to race such a British icon. It’s always difficult to find traction from a standing start on grass, but the Range Rover Sport made a great launch off the line. I was surprised by how bumpy the course was as I accelerated up to 130mph, and of course the other extreme challenge is to brake in time for the turn-around, but the car felt composed throughout the whole run.”, commented Mike Cross, Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief Vehicle Integrity Engineer.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Opel Teases Monza Concept [VIDEO]

Opel-Monza-Concept-THUMBOpel and Vauxhall are going to unveil their new exclusive concept called Monza at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. However, they have just teased the car with exclusive images and a video, which gives a glimpse over the innovative design of the Monza.

In the video, the concept is unveiled by Karl-Thomas Neumann, who states that this vehicle represents a vision of the company’s future and will set the beginning of the next generation of Opel/Vauxhall vehicles.

The new conpcept focuses on two major points: efficiency and connectivity. Both are expected to be the top priorities for all working on the next-generation models. This means that the Monza demonstrates rxcellent efficiency through its architecture and use of materials.

In addition, it features outstanding aerodynamics and ground-breaking powertrain solution. The connectivity point is covered by the possibilities offered by the new infotainment systems included. On the other hand, in terms of exterior, the Cr expresses a sense of lithe athleticism, rather than pure muscle power.

The front of the vehicle impresses the viewer with its low stance, flowing lines, clearly defined bonnet and striking headlamp treatment. The additionally developed signature Vauxhall themes are embedded in the overall look. For example, the typical crease on the bonnet now has a more three-dimensional look.

On the other hand, the chrome grille bar, on which can be seen the logo of the brand, sweeps up with winglets at its tips. Additionally, there are also added two characteristic blades under the headlamps. All this results in a light, athletic look of the concept, which also conveys efficiency, excitement and driving fun.

Although there are no additional details released yet, Neumann says that the interior design of Monza Concept will include trend-setting technologies which will change the driving experience once and for all. Moreover, he adds that the innovative body design and perfect proportions will “turn heads”.
