  • Kia Launches VR7 Line For Picanto, Rio, Cee’d

Kia-VR7-Range-shadowKia-VR7-Range-mediumKia are planning to introduce a new range for the Picanto, Rio and, cee’d (low-case spelling) models. It’s called the VR7 which sounds sporty but it really isn’t.

All VR7 models should have a high level of standard equipment. That means air conditioning, leathered steering wheel and gear shift knob, Bluetooth connectivity and USB and AUX ports. On the exterior the new trim-line cars will showcase a selection of features usually found on premium models: alloy wheels, reversing seonsrs, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, and electric windows on all doors.

The Kia Picanto VR7 comes in either a 3- or 5-door version. The latter holds a slightly more powerful 1.0 engine with 84 hp. (the 3-door has 68 hp). Either way, you get an entirely comprehensive automotive package complete with things such as ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (ESB), Brake-Assist System (BAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), six airbags and Hill-start Assist control (HAC).

The Kia Rio VR7 models are again in either 3- or 5-door shells. The 3-door Rio VR7 comes only with a 1.25-liter 84 hp engine and a 5-speed manual. All the while, the 5-door can have the same engine or a 1.1 CRDi diesel with 98 hp and a 6-speed manual ISG transmission. All the Rio models boast color-oriented bumpers, exterior door handles and door mirrors. Needless to say, ESC, VSM, HAC and Anti-theft Alarm System are again included.

Finally, the cee’d VR7 family. Weather you’re going to go with a pro_cee’d, a 3-door cee’d, a 5-door cee’d or a cee’d Sport Wagon, you will always end up with a 1.4 engine. All but one have the same power output: 98 hp. The one exception is the cee’d CRDi engine which develops 89 hp. All cee’ds have a 6-speed manual and all have a great bundle of standard extras: a rear spoiler, projection headlights, front fog lights and daytime running lights.Kia-Picanto-3door-VR7-medium

  • Radical RXC and RXC Turbo – Street Legal in the US [video]

Radical RXC and RXC Turbo are approved for street-legal use in the United States. Both sports cars look more like track-only models, but they meet all requirements for everyday use.

    Radical RXC is powered by a 3.7 liter V6 – 380HP (283 kW) and 433Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque. The RXC Turbo comes with a 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 – 460HP (338 kW) and 678Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 298 km/h (185 mph).

The British manufacturer has been working with American RXC owner Jeffrey Cheng to get the car approved. The task is extremely difficult, especially with low-volume British sportscars. Still, they succeeded, where others have failed.

Radical RXC complies with all regulations for both Europe and worldwide in all key criteria areas – visibility, crash safety, noise and emissions.

  • Ford Auctions First 2015 Mustang GT For $300,000

2015-Ford-Mustang-GT-First-Unit-shadow2015-Ford-Mustang-GT-First-Unit-medium-1Last week we talked about the Barret-Jackson sale where the rights to buy the first production Camaro COPO for 2014 and the first Z/28 were auctioned off. However, there were even more production firsts that went under the hammer. Car collector and North Texas Ford dealer, Sam Pack signed a $300,000 check after placing a winning bid for the first retail production 2015 Ford Mustang GT. Yikes.

It’s not just money spent for bragging rights though. A part of the sum goes to the JDRF charity, a leading diabetes research organisation that has been endorsed from Ford since 1983. Mr Pack will also have the benefit to peruse the options list and customize the GT to his liking. He can choose any colour scheme he fancies for the inside and outside, and he can go with either a manual or an automatic. (fingers crossed for stick). Oh, and the design team will sign the car as an act of appreciation of the donation to JDRF.

The 2015 Ford Mustang brandishes a throaty V8 that turns out “more than” 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. It also doesn’t fall behind in terms of connectivity and ease of use. And by that we mean launch control – for that exquisite off-the-line start. A pony that actually doesn’t want to destroy it’s tires. Who would have thought?

Jaguar-XK-Signature-THUMBTwo special edition Jaguar XK models are now being introduced by the brand. The Signature and Dynamic R specification are to be available in Coupé and Convertible form and will add impressive performance technologies and luxury features.

Jaguar XK Signature model focuses on luxury. It is equipped with a 5.0-litre V8 engine which produces 385 hp (283 kW). The car is fitted with standard 20” Kalimnos wheels and Reverse Park Camera. On the other hand XK Dynamic R, which is based on the existing XKR, focuses on performance. It is equipped with a 5.0-litre supercharged powertrain capable of delivering 510 horsepower (375 kW). This variant also offers Black Dynamic Pack that comprises of XKR-S suspension and dynamics and a 10mm reduction in ride height, as well as Speed Pack, which consists of an Aerodynamic Pack and an increased top speed of 174 mph. Standard equipment here is also the Performance Active Exhaust.

Precisely, the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine offers not only great power but also enhanced fuel efficiency. The reason for this is that incorporates spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT). Furthermore, the engine has been constructed from lightweight aluminum, which in the cylinder heads is recycled to minimize the environmental impact.

The other impressive detail here is that the XK Signature reaches 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds, and produces 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque. The top speed here is 155 mph while the CO2 emissions are rated at 264 g/km.

The XK Dynamic R’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 offers torque figures 625 Nm (461 lb-ft), taking the car to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Although this Jaguar is extremely powerful, it also offers great efficiency and 292g/km CO2 emissions.

Both variants are quipped with a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles, which control Jaguar’s Sequential Shift function for greater driver control. Dynamic R edition has an advantage: it features Jaguar’s Active Differential Control technology, which utilizes a multiplate clutch to vector torque to the driven wheel with the most grip. XK Signature on the other hand uses a mechanical differential, which delivers outstanding levels of grip and stability under power.

Both cars are fitted with Dynamic Stability Control system. The latter has four modes: Normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off. The double wishbone front suspension on both models includes a fully-machined steering knuckle, while the rear suspension features rear wheel steer that has been optimized for maximum agility.

Furthermore, the XK Dynamic R comes as a standard with a Black Dynamic Pack. The latter comprises of suspension technology, Adaptive Dynamics, lowered ride height by 10mm. The other standard pack here is the Speed Pack, which increases the maximum speed from 155 mph to 174 mph, and also features a body-coloured Aerodynamic Pack with front splitter and larger rear spoiler body-coloured rear diffuser and side sill extensions. A Performance Active Exhaust is also fitted as standard here.

The interior of the Signature is given Luxury seats in the choice of Ivory or Charcoal soft grain leather. It also features Canvas Suedecloth headlining, Figured Ebony veneers and Bright Metal sport pedals. The XK Dynamic R on the other hand is fitted with sewn Performance seat in either Ivory/Charcoal soft grain leather with Ivory contrast stitch or Charcoal/Red soft grain leather with Red contrast stitch leather. The interior Jet Suedecloth headliner is complemented with Piano Black veneers, while Bright Metal sport pedals come also as standard.

Both variants run on 20 inch wheels. In case of the XK Signature they are Kalimnos or Takoba wheels, while XK Dynamic R has the Vortex diamond turned wheels with distinctive Red painted brake calipers as well as Vulcan Gloss Black lightweight alloys.

Jaguar will offer both the XK Signature and Dynamic R editions in the choice of the following exterior colors: Polaris White, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Italian Racing Red, Dark Sapphire and British Racing Green.

  • Mcchip-DKR Mini John Cooper Works With A 2.0 TFSI And DSG Gearbox

Mcchip-DKR-Mini-John-Cooper-Works-TFSI-DSG-shadowMcchip-DKR-Mini-John-Cooper-Works-TFSI-DSG-mediumHow often do you get to see some tuner house behind the scenes action? Most of the time it’s just figures and dyno graphs. Ever wondered what it takes to actually do a proper overhaul?

If you have, it’s your lucky day. The guys at Mcchip-DKR have the uncanny idea to lift and transplant a Volkswagen TFSI engine. The recipient? A Mini John Cooper Works. Apparently, the JCW Mini’s 208 hp and 261 Nm of torque just don’t make the cut. Mcchip are anticipating a much more volatile end product with 340 to 350 hp.

The Mini’s new heart, a VAG 2.0 TFSI engine, is supposed to get new pistons and rods before the transfer. A Stage 3 kit (VLN Package) should yeald the desired power output. The rest of the JCW drive train has also been scrapped in favour of a DQ250 DSG transmission and a Drexler differential lock.

Judging by the provided picture material, we’d reckon Mcchip are going through quite a lot of hassle. If, however, everything goes as planned, this should be one demonic piece of work.

  • Kia GT4 Stinger Convertible Concept [render]

X-Tomi Design has published a render picture of Kia GT4 Stinger Convertible Concept. The Korean manufacturer managed to impress the audience at 2014 NAIAS in Detroit with GT4 Stinger Concept.

The Coupe is powered by a T-GDI 2.0 liter engine – 315HP. All of that power is sent to the rear wheels via a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. The stopping power is courtesy to the Brembo Gran Turismo 15” crossdrilled rotors and four-piston calipers.

The GT4 Coupe boasts 52:48 weight distribution, the quick-ratio steering rack and its relatively low unsprung mass which stands at 1,303kg (2,874 lbs). Probably the Convertible will be slightly more heavy, but it will still manage to keep the perfect weight distribution.
