  • Mercedes-Benz GLB

Numerous innovations and more extensive standard equipment – Mercedes-Benz is making the spacious GLB compact SUV even more attractive for customers. The redesigned front bumper with visual underbody protection points to its off-road genes. The SUV radiator grille with four horizontal louvres and central star underlines this impression. The athletic shoulder shape, with coherently modelled side graphics, creates an interesting interplay of light and shadow and a visually width-accentuated rear end.

New striking full-LED headlights and rear lights enhance the appearance, with the range of options now expanded with four additional wheel designs and a new Spectral Blue Metallic paint colour. In basic trim, the new GLB is fitted with 17-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels in high-gloss black with high-gloss turned surfaces. However, the GLB can also be configured with 18- to 20-inch wheels.

One of the highlights of the significantly upgraded interior is the freestanding double screen. Standard are a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch display for the respective instrument cluster and multimedia screens, with two 10.25‑inch wide-screen displays available as an option. The round air vents in turbine look convey sporty elegance and contrast with the straight-lined, off-road-typical interior elements in aluminium. The standard steering wheel of the current generation is upholstered in leather, with ARTICO man-made leather available on request. In addition, a heated steering wheel rim is available for the AMG Line for the first time.

Simplified offer logic with extensive standard equipment

Comfort seats come as standard in the new GLB, which are upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and black fabric with three-dimensional embossing. They are optionally available in the trendy sagegrey colour. Three interior colours – black, macchiato beige and sagegrey – are available in the Progressive equipment variant. The standard seat cover in ARTICO man-made leather/microfibre MICROCUT is now also available in bahia brown in the AMG Line, as are a total of four upholstery colours: black, bahia brown, sagegrey and the new shade red pepper combined with black. The comfort seat fabric covering is made of 100% recycled materials while in the ARTICO/MICROCUT seat cover, this proportion is 65% in the seat mirror and 85% in the bottom fabric.

The standard equipment of the GLB has been significantly upgraded. The offer logic has been adapted even more precisely to specific customer wishes. The basic equipment already includes Highbeam Assist, a reversing camera and the USB package in addition to the leather steering wheel and the LED front headlights, for example. Customers also receive the Parking Package and the Mirror Package from the Progressive equipment variant onwards. Further functional equipment is bundled into packages based on real customer behaviour, with customers being able to configure vehicles individually in terms of design features such as colours, upholstery, trim and wheels.

Intuitive operation and adaptive software in the latest MBUX generation

The GLB now features the latest generation of MBUX with newly designed display styles. “Classic” provides all relevant driver information while “Sporty” impresses with the dynamic rev counter. Those who want to limit themselves to essential content can select “Discreet”. In combination with the three Navigation, Assistance, and Services modes and the 10 Ambient Light colour worlds, customers are treated to numerous individualisation options. All previous functions such as Media, Phone or Vehicle are still available, and they can be conveniently operated via touchscreen or steering-wheel-mounted finger pads.

New design and improved performance were the main focuses of the revision of the telematics system. For further connectivity, the GLB now has an additional USB-C port and increased USB charging power while all USB ports are illuminated. In the future, wireless networking with smartphones will be possible via Android Auto Wireless or Apple CarPlay.

Intelligent voice assistant learns with you

The Mercedes-Benz intelligent voice assistant is becoming even more capable of dialogue and learning thanks to online services in the Mercedes me app that can be activated. The system gets to know the driver and remembers their typical settings or routes. At the appropriate moment, it suggests personalised infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions – precisely tailored to the respective driving situation. The driver can, of course, reject this suggestion with the “Do not suggest now” function, or permanently delete it with “Do not suggest again”. The vehicle will remember these wishes. Certain actions can thus be triggered without having to say “Hey Mercedes,” and the voice assistant can now also explain vehicle functions. As part of the “MBUX Voice Assistant” from Mercedes me, the audio “Tourguide” adds an exciting feature to travel information – initially only available in Germany. When the voice command “Hey Mercedes, start Tourguide” is given, MBUX reads out interesting facts about places of interest along the route, responding to the approximately 3,400 brown signs along German motorways.

The optional Burmester® surround sound system now features the immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience in conjunction with the latest MBUX generation, giving music more space, clarity and depth. The system also adapts to any playback environment, meaning fans can listen to music with unparalleled clarity that matches the artist’s original vision from the studio.

    Mini-games as digital extras

A new digital extra has made its way into the GLB with the optional individualisation package for Mercedes me connect services. A selection of mini-games designed especially for the touchscreens and the touch-control buttons on the steering wheel turn the compact SUV into a mobile game console. Games can be played alone or with fellow passengers. Currently, classic games such as Sudoku, Shuffle Puck, Pairs and Match 3 as well as a quiz are available.

Safety assistance is another area in which the new GLB shines. Through Active Steering Control, an upgrade of the Driving Assistance Package enables more comfortable control of Lane Keeping Assist. The next generation of the Parking Package also supports longitudinal parking with 360-degree visualisation for camera-assisted parking. For the first time, the GLB also offers Trailer Manoeuvring Assist, which facilitates reverse manoeuvring with camera support. The prerequisite is the trailer hitch with ESP® trailer stabilisation in conjunction with the Parking Package with 360-degree camera.

    Even more electrified drive options

The new GLB is available in Europe with four petrol and four diesel engine options. The range includes four‑cylinder units with seven- or eight-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission as standard. The two most powerful petrol engines come with variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard.

To reduce consumption and emissions, all petrol units are electrified. These mild hybrids are equipped with an additional 48-volt electrical system for the belt-driven starter generator. Its briefly available additional power of 10 kW supports agile starting and is used for faster acceleration via boost. The starter-generator also increases comfort: in addition to low-vibration and low-noise engine starting, it enables coasting with the combustion engine switched off. In addition, it recuperates during braking and acceleration – and in this way supplies the 12-volt on-board network and the 48-volt battery with electrical energy.

Smooth operation and superior power delivery with contemporary efficiency are hallmarks of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. It is available in three power and torque levels from 85 kW (280 Nm) to 140 kW (400 Nm) and features single-stage turbocharging with variable turbine geometry. The cylinder head and crankcase are made of lightweight aluminium. The NANOSLIDE® coating developed by Mercedes-Benz reduces friction between the cylinder wall and the steel piston and thereby reduces consumption and emissions.

  • Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz is significantly upgrading the compact GLA SUV with numerous innovations and more extensive standard equipment. The new radiator grille with vertical louvres and horizontal fin enhances the powerful character. In addition, the bonnet with discreetly suggested power domes underlines the self-confident appearance. The redesigned front bumper with visual underride protection points to the GLA’s off‑road genes.

Added to this is the modernised light signature in the standard LED High Performance front headlights and the LED rear lights. Mercedes-Benz is expanding the range of options with the new Spectral Blue paint colour and four additional wheel designs. In the basic trim, the new GLA stands on 17-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels in high-gloss black with high-gloss turned surfaces. Optional 18- to 20-inch wheels are also available.

The free-standing double screen is one of the highlights of the significantly upgraded interior. It now includes a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch display as standard for the instrument cluster and multimedia screen respectively. Two 10.25-inch wide-screen displays are optionally available. They offer a holistic high-tech experience and enhance the open-plan architecture. The steering wheel of the current generation is upholstered in leather as standard; ARTICO imitation leather is available as an alternative. For the first time, a heated steering wheel rim is also available for the AMG Line.

Simplified offer logic with extensive standard equipment

The new GLA is equipped with comfort seats as standard. They are upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and three-dimensionally embossed fabric in black. They are also optionally available in the trendy sagegrey colour. The Progressive equipment variant offers three interior colours: black, macchiato beige and sagegrey. In the AMG Line, the standard seat cover in ARTICO man-made leather/microfibre MICROCUT is now also available in bahia brown. A total of four upholstery colours are available in the AMG Line: black, bahia brown, sagegrey and the new shade red pepper combined with black. The fabric covering of the comfort seat is made of 100% recycled materials. In the case of the ARTICO/MICROCUT seat cover, this proportion is 65% in the seat mirror and 85% in the bottom fabric.

Mercedes-Benz has significantly upgraded the standard equipment of the GLA and tailored the offer logic even more precisely to specific customer wishes. For example, in addition to the leather steering wheel and LED front headlights, the basic equipment already includes Highbeam Assist, a backup camera and the USB package. From the Progressive equipment variant onwards, customers also receive the Parking Package and the Mirror Package. Further functional equipment is bundled into packages based on real customer behaviour. In terms of design features such as colours, upholstery, trim and wheels, those interested can configure the vehicles individually.

Latest MBUX generation with intuitive operation and adaptive software

The GLA now also features the latest generation of MBUX – with newly designed display styles: while “Classic” provides all relevant driver information, “Sporty” impresses with the dynamic rev counter. “Discreet” reduces the displays to the essential content. In combination with the three Navigation, Assistance and Services modes plus the 10 colour worlds of Ambient Light, there are numerous individualisation options. All previous functions such as Media, Phone, Vehicle etc. are still available. They can be conveniently operated via the touchscreen or the finger pads on the steering wheel.

The revision of the telematics system focused on a new design and improved performance. A new feature is the ability to connect wirelessly with smartphones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto Wireless. For further connectivity, the GLA now has an additional USB-C port and increased USB charging power. All USB ports are now illuminated.

By activating online services in the Mercedes me app, the intelligent voice assistant becomes even more capable of dialogue and learning. Certain actions can be triggered even without saying “Hey Mercedes”. In addition, the voice assistant can explain vehicle functions. The audio “Tourguide” adds an exciting feature to the travel information as part of the “MBUX Voice Assistant” from Mercedes me – initially exclusively in Germany. When the “Hey Mercedes, start Tourguide” voice command is given, MBUX reads out interesting facts about places of interest along the route. The system responds to the approximately 3,400 brown signs along German motorways.

The optional Burmester® surround sound system, in conjunction with the latest MBUX generation, now features the immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience, which gives music more space, clarity and depth. In addition, Dolby Atmos adapts to any playback environment, meaning fans can listen to music with unparalleled clarity that matches the artist’s original vision from the studio.

    Digital extra: new mini-games

With the optional individualisation package for Mercedes me connect services, a new digital extra is also making its way into the GLA. A selection of mini-games specially developed for the touchscreens and the touch control buttons on the steering wheel turn the compact SUV into a mobile games console: those who have a charging stop or want to pass time waiting can play alone or compete with fellow passengers. Currently, classic games such as Sudoku, Shuffle Puck, Pairs, Match 3 and a quiz are available.

The new GLA models also step up in terms of safety assistance. An upgrade of the Driving Assistance package enables more comfortable control of the Lane Keeping Assist through the Active Steering Control. The next generation of the Parking package also supports longitudinal parking. And it offers 360-degree visualisation for camera-assisted parking. The Trailer Manoeuvring Assist is also available for the GLA for the first time. It facilitates reverse manoeuvring with camera support. The prerequisite is the trailer hitch with ESP® trailer stabilisation in conjunction with the Parking Package with 360-degree camera.

Expanded range of electrified drive options

To further reduce consumption and emissions, the petrol engines in the new GLA are electrified throughout. The range includes four-cylinder units with seven- or eight-speed DCT dual-clutch transmissions as standard equipment. The mild hybrids are equipped with an additional 48-volt on-board power supply for the belt-driven starter-generator. Its briefly available additional power of 10 kW supports agility when starting or is used for quick boosting. The starter-generator also increases comfort: in addition to low-vibration and low-noise engine starting, it also enables coasting with the combustion engine switched off. In addition, it recuperates during braking and acceleration processes – and thus supplies the 12-volt on-board network as well as the 48-volt battery with electrical energy.

More power and range for the plug-in hybrid

The further developed plug-in hybrid drive of the GLA 250 e (preliminary figures: fuel consumption combined, weighted: 1.4-1.1 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined, weighted: 31-24 g/km; electricity consumption combined, weighted: 23.8-21.1 kWh/100 km) scores above all with increased performance. The higher usable energy content of the improved high-voltage battery also leads to a longer electric range. The output of the electric motor has increased by 5 kW to 80 kW while the system power remains the same. On the charging side, three options are still available: in addition to the 3.7 kW standard, the battery can now optionally be charged with alternating current and up to 11 kW. Furthermore, it is possible to charge the battery with direct current and up to 22 kW. This further reduces charging times. Mercedes-Benz has also updated the visualisation of the hybrid functions in the head unit.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine combines smooth running and superior power delivery with contemporary efficiency. It is available in three power and torque levels. Its features include single-stage turbocharging with variable turbine geometry. The cylinder head and crankcase are made of lightweight aluminium. The NANOSLIDE® coating developed by Mercedes-Benz reduces friction between the cylinder wall and the steel piston. This reduces consumption and emissions.

  • Ferrari Roma Spider

The Ferrari Roma Spider, the latest model from the Maranello marque, was presented to clients today at an exclusive event at the El Badi Palace in Marrakesh. This timelessly elegant, high-performance car is a contemporary take on the chic, pleasure-seeking Italian lifestyle of the 1950s and 60s. This spider carries over the proportions, volumes and specifications of the Ferrari Roma’s hugely successful V8 2+ concept, but what makes it so striking is the adoption of a soft top, a solution making a welcome return to the Prancing Horse range on a front-engined car 54 years after the 1969 365 GTS4.

There’s a novel and modern take on the soft-top design that underlines the Ferrari Roma Spider’s exuberant character, with extensive personalisation options that include sophisticated, bespoke fabrics and contrasting stitching. On a functional level, the soft top deploys in just 13.5 seconds and can be actioned at up to 60 km/h. The fact that it is so compact also yields a larger boot and boosts the car’s versatility. A new, patented wind deflector integrated into the backrest of the rear bench can be deployed by a button on the central tunnel, guaranteeing exceptional in-car occupant comfort without taking up any space in the car.

The Ferrari Roma Spider retains the Ferrari Roma’s excellent dynamic characteristics: it boasts a best-in-class weight/power ratio thanks not only to its soft top, but also to its all-aluminium chassis and 620 cv V8 from the engine family that was heralded as the International Engine of the Year on four consecutive occasions. The engine is coupled with Ferrari’s universally-acclaimed 8-speed DCT known for its incredibly fast shift times as well as excellent standards of comfort and mechanical efficiency.

The Ferrari Roma Spider is not just rewardingly easy to drive, it is also extremely dynamic and responsive: this makes it the perfect companion on out-of-town weekends and longer journeys alike. Always, of course, with the exhilarating Ferrari V8 soundtrack playing in the background. A number of features are designed to make this car superbly versatile, including a category-topping boot size which includes a hatch via the rear seat backrests to allow larger items to be carried, and standard wireless connectivity by Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® Wi-Fi. Not forgetting, of course, 18-way-adjustable heated ergonomic seats that are also available with an optional neck warmer for colder days.

    STYLE

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre headed by Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Roma Spider aims to move the “La Nuova Dolce Vita” concept beyond city limits for elegant, carefree driving ‘en plein air’. This 2+ spider boasts a sophisticated fabric soft top, which is designed not just to maintain, but to enhance the flawless proportions of the coupé on which it is based without modifying that car’s elegantly flowing silhouette.

Redesigning the coupé’s tapering, fastback roofline meant modifying the rear screen to incorporate it into the soft top so that it can fold below the tonneau cover when open. On the Ferrari Roma Spider, the original styling theme has become a body-colour band running across the base of the roof that divides the carbon-fibre active spoiler from the roof and rear screen, creating a seamlessly integrated tonneau cover. When the soft top is lowered, the active spoiler visually connects with the rear bench and head rests.

Unlike the more usual basic fabrics seen on most convertibles, a new material has been used for the Ferrari Roma Spider’s soft-top, giving it a sophisticated air. Special fabric weaves were selected and developed in colour combinations that highlight the car’s twin souls, one more elegant and the other sportier. The bespoke finish with two-tone weave draws on a palette of four colours highlighting the refined, haute couture nature of the fabric. The optional technical fabric developed specifically for this car gives it a sporty yet very sophisticated allure with an innovative weave creating an extremely striking iridescent red finish that further enhances the roof’s 3D surface.

    EXTERIOR

The stylistic approach taken for the Ferrari Roma Spider’s exterior centres around a clean design and absolute symbiosis between its various elements. Its harmonious proportions and pure, elegant volumes are very much in line with Ferrari’s front-engined GT tradition. That said, the designers have created a modern take on those classic proportions, giving the car a sophisticated, contemporary stylishness.

The long front bonnet underscores the spare silhouette of the flanks, lending a sense of sleekness to the entire body and a dynamic look. The sober, spare front of the car looks as if it were sculpted from single block of metal, creating an overhanging, sharknose effect.

The bonnet and sinuous wings flow into one another yet also effortlessly harmonise with Ferrari’s traditional styling cues. The designers sought to preserve the minimalist elegance of the car’s forms by removing any vents or superfluous decorative features. In fact, the launch configuration does not even include the Scuderia Ferrari side shields, reflecting the approach taken with the road cars of the 1950s.

Engine cooling is guaranteed by the perforated surfaces, only where strictly necessary, creating a new interpretation of the grille concept: this distinctive solution is finished in the same colour as the bodywork, rendering it seamless with the styling. The edges of the front grille flow into two linear, full-LED headlights which lend the front of the car a distinctive character all of its own. They are traversed by a horizontal DRL strip that hints at the structure beneath the car’s skin, an element that brings a sense of tension to the entire circumference of the car.

The fastback cabin volume is compact and set back, ending in a subtle nolder beneath which the designers have created a modern take on the signature Ferrari tail. The Ferrari Roma Spider’s long rear overhang, which is a characteristic of the Ferraris of the 1950s and 60s, has been re-proportioned here, resulting in a low, compact volume which hugs the rear axle. The wraparound tail of the car is characterised by the purity and modernity of the transom styling. Technological advances made it possible to reduce the dimensions of the tail light assembly, resulting in a minimalist and iconic design. The rear is completed by a compact aerodynamic diffuser that incorporates the fence and exhaust tailpipes.

    CABIN

For the Ferrari Roma Spider’s cabin, the Ferrari Styling Centre designers took the same approach to volumes and forms introduced on the Ferrari Roma. Two separate spaces, one each for driver and passenger, were created in an evolution of the dual cockpit concept, which has its roots deep in the marque’s history with cars from the 1970s. The innovative look of this dual cockpit was achieved by extending the philosophy applied to the dash to the entire cabin. Hence, the vision of two modules that wrap around driver and passenger and that extend and integrate with the two rear seats.

The Ferrari Roma Spider’s cabin has an almost symmetrical layout which produces a more organic distribution of both spaces and functional elements. The result is that the passenger will feel very involved in the driving experience – almost like a co-driver, in fact. The forms have been crafted to create a sculptural volume in which there is a sense of textural continuity between all the various cabin elements.

Created by paring back the volumes and underscored by piping along their edges, the two cockpits are cocooned in a wraparound volume and extend from the dashboard all the way back to the rear seats, organically incorporating the dash, doors, rear bench and tunnel. Thus, the cabin is not designed as a collection of separate sub-assemblies, but defined by elements that develop organically.

The technology adopted is derived from the Ferrari Roma: the digital instrument cluster is integrated with the volumes around it and protected by an anti-glare binnacle which extends out naturally from the dash. The passenger has an optional display that allows them to share the driving information. An 8.4” central display set between the two cockpits and partly floating between the dashboard and tunnel incorporates the other infotainment and climate control functions.

The F1 gearbox controls have been set into a modern metal plate which references the iconic gear lever gate. In the Ferrari Roma Spider, this is in the centre of the tunnel and inclined to make it easier for the driver to reach and see.

The steering wheel’s HMI is a further honed and refined version of that seen on the Ferrari Roma with touch controls on its spokes. The left-hand spoke has indents corresponding to the touch controls to ensure the driver can feel which one to use. The track pad on the right-hand spoke has been improved – there is now an indent that makes it easier to swipe. These solutions help the driver know where the controls are, in line with the “Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” philosophy Ferrari has been adopting for quite some time. The Engine Start button is now also backlit in red to underscore the thrill of the moment the iconic Ferrari twin-turbo springs to life.

    POWERTRAIN

The Ferrari Roma Spider is powered by an engine belonging to the V8 turbo family named “International Engine of the Year” for four consecutive years and also voted “Best Engine of the Last 20 Years” in 2018. The 3,855 cc power unit can punch out 620 cv at 7,500 rpm, the equivalent of 161 cv/l, which it combines with the flexibility of low-end pick-up, thanks to 80% of the torque being available at just 1900 rpm.

The Ferrari Roma Spider also sees the introduction of an important evolution of the oil pump which reduces time-to-pressure in cold starts by 70%, as well as increasing the flow rate at medium revs. The same modification has also been introduced on the Ferrari Roma, demonstrating the company’s commitment to continual research and development.

Like all Ferraris in the range, the Ferrari Roma Spider delivers instantaneous throttle response. This is the direct result of the adoption of specific solutions, such as a flat-plane crankshaft, which is more compact in size with lower rotating masses to improve fluid-dynamics; compact turbines which have a lower moment of inertia; twin-scroll technology that directs the exhaust gases from each cylinder through separate scrolls and increases the pressure of the exhaust pulses for maximum power; and a single-piece, cast exhaust manifold with equal length pipes to optimise pressure waves in the turbine and reduce losses.

The Ferrari Roma Spider boasts Variable Boost Management, a control software developed by Ferrari that adjusts torque delivery to suit the gear selected, delivering increasingly powerful pick-up as revs rise, whilst optimising fuel consumption. As the car goes up through the gears, the amount of torque delivered by the engine increases, continuing all the way up to 760 Nm in 7th and 8th gear. This allowed the use of longer gear ratios in the higher gears, which helps keep fuel consumption and emissions down, while adopting a steeper torque curve through the rev range in the lower gears for a feeling of smooth, consistent pick-up.

The gearbox is based on a dual-clutch oil bath architecture and is derived from the 8-speed gearbox first introduced on the SF90 Stradale. The main modifications made with respect to the latter are longer gear ratios and the introduction of a reverse gear. The new layout and component integration thus optimised the gearbox’s size and its installation in the car.

With eight gears and optimum transmission efficiency, fuel consumption in urban and motorway contexts has been reduced without compromising on performance. In fact, there is a noticeable improvement even in sporty driving. The main technical features that have guaranteed this result are the use of low-viscosity oil and a dry sump configuration to minimise fluid-dynamic efficiency losses (oil splashing) in addition to the use of a specially-designed differential (with the input pinion axis not offset to reduce slip speed.

The clutch module is 20% smaller than the previous 7-speed, but delivers 35% more torque, with up to a maximum 1,200 Nm of dynamic torque transmitted when gear shifting. The transmission software strategy has been evolved thanks to a more powerful ECU and better integration with the engine management software. Particular attention was also lavished on the strategies designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, particularly when the Start&Stop function is in use.

Every single Ferrari engine has its own particular soundtrack that makes it unique and, of course, the Ferrari Roma Spider is no exception to that rule. In addition to the flat-plane crankshaft, which synchronises engine firing, and equal-length exhaust headers, which equalise the sound, the spider adopted the Ferrari Roma’s entire exhaust line that eliminated the two rear silencers in favour of new geometry for the by-pass valves. The continuous and progressive by-pass valve control underscores the engine sound and performance depending on the driving situation.

    AERODYNAMICS

The adoption of a fabric soft top and its indirect impact on the car’s bodywork geometries provided the starting point for the aero development. To retain the Ferrari Roma’s low drag, combined with the possibility of generating efficient downforce, the line of the roof and its curvature over the frontal section were subjected to in-depth numerical analysis and guided by the work of the Aerodynamic Department to ensure the project target was reached.

The modifications to the Ferrari Roma Spider’s bodywork also required new mobile spoiler geometry. In fact, the design of the latter has been meticulously honed to reflect the car’s styling and new roof line. Similar to the Ferrari Roma, this element is designed to extend and retract in a calibrated way specific to the spider as a function of the car’s speed, and the longitudinal and transverse acceleration acting on the body. This guarantees three different spoiler positions, specifically calibrated for top-down driving.

The result is that the Ferrari Roma Spider has downforce in handling situations and at high speeds comparable with the Ferrari Roma, ensuring the car is always aerodynamically balanced and able to deliver the same driving exhilaration. Huge attention was lavished on aerodynamic comfort on board with the top down, with particular focus on minimising both turbulence and wind noise in the cabin.

The solutions selected were driven by the need to simplify the transition from top-up to top-down driving, by introducing automatic movements for the surfaces tasked with creating an aerodynamic ‘bubble’ effect over the cockpit for comfort. The first was the addition of a 5mm nolder on the new windscreen header rail in the area of the flow separation. The second was the development of an automatic patented wind deflector that can be deployed by the driver without any need to stop the car. If the client wants to deploy the wind deflector, they simply press a button on the tunnel and the backrest of the rear seats (in the absence of rear passengers) will rotate into position behind the front occupants’ heads.

In this configuration, the air flow that would normally be drawn into the cabin from the rear of the car is deflected, creating an area of relatively still air around the occupants and reducing still further the turbulence around the heads of taller drivers by around 30% compared to previous 2+ spider applications. The deployable wind stop’s permeability was optimised by a transverse aperture at its centre which, thanks to its calibrated angle, acts as a real aerodynamic duct, while its shape in the plan view is tapered at the sides. These two geometric characteristics combine to deflect the most highly energised flow entering the cabin well away from the occupants.

The duct at the centre of the wind stop ensures that part of the flow entering the cabin is deflected downwards towards the rear seat, forcing it to mix with a slower flow. This means it loses most of its energy, effectively reducing turbulence in the cabin. The result is an extension of the bubble around the occupants and particularly their heads, guaranteeing unparalleled en plein air comfort. The shape, angle and permeability of the deployable wind stop are all crucial to achieving this objective, and were developed thanks to a combination of CFD simulation and many wind tunnel sessions.

There is no doubt that the most visually striking downforce generation feature is the active spoiler at the rear of the car’s upper body. A mobile spoiler is cleverly concealed in the rear lid, not interfering in the least the car’s line. However, thanks to a special mechanism, it can deploy into three different positions (Low drag – LD, Medium Downforce – MD, High Downforce – HD).

In low speed situations, when downforce has only a modest impact on the car’s performance, the spoiler goes into low drag position. This configuration is maintained until the car hits a speed of 100 km/h. At speeds of over 300 km/h, the spoiler is in MD mode. This choice was made because in these conditions, the preference is for a better balanced car, in part because of the minimal impact on drag. In speed ranges in which downforce plays a pivotal role in performance, the spoiler is in MD position and its movement to the HD position depends on the car’s longitudinal and lateral acceleration. The threshold value is variable and linked to the Manettino position.

In medium downforce mode (MD), the mobile element is at a 150-degree angle to the rear screen. In this configuration, it can generate around 30% of maximum downforce with an increase in drag of under 1%. In high-performance handling or braking situations, the mobile element automatically moves to HD configuration, generating maximum downforce and readying the car to provide the driving thrills that all Ferraris deliver. When deployed to its maximum height (HD), the mobile element creates a 135 degree angle with the surface of the rear screen, thus generating around 95 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, yet increasing drag by a mere 4%.

The increase in front downforce is due for the most part to a pair of vortex generators, which have been optimised for this particular model. They create a ground effect by introducing concentrated and coherent vortices into the area whilst simultaneously managing the wake from the front wheels with the ultimate aim of guaranteeing very efficient downforce generation.

    VEHICLE DYNAMICS

The goal of the Ferrari Roma Spider’s vehicle dynamics development was to deliver superior driving thrills and handling precision on a par with the Ferrari Roma, thanks to the Side Slip Control concept which uses an algorithm developed by Ferrari that provides an instantaneous estimate of side slip to all the various on-board control systems. This data is then used to coordinate and implement interventions in a rapid, timely and accurate manner.

The Side Slip Control System (SSC), version 6.0 of which is used here, integrates all the car’s vehicle dynamics systems, most notably the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, active solely in the Manettino’s ‘Race’ position. The FDE is a lateral dynamics control system that rapidly adjusts the hydraulic brake pressure at the callipers on all four wheels consistent with the dynamic situation requiring control. It is designed to make the evolution of the car’s lateral dynamics more predictable through and exiting corners, ensuring the driver’s control of the steering wheel and throttle are simpler and more intuitive. The system flanks the traditional Electronic Stability Control system.

Like the Ferrari Roma, the Ferrari Roma Spider’s Manettino has five positions to make its handling and traction performance even more accessible with the introduction of the Race position. Supported by the introduction of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, this position is designed to boost fun behind the wheel.

    CHASSIS AND BODYWORK

The Ferrari Roma Spider’s chassis is derived from the Ferrari Roma, but features new components, with the rear section inspired by the solution used on the Ferrari Portofino M. The sill, a fundamentally important structural element, was developed specifically for the Ferrari Roma Spider, as were some elements required to install the soft top, and the A-pillar/windscreen surround.

The bodyshell retains the fundamental elements of the Ferrari Roma’s design: the modifications made focused mainly on the rear and on harmonising the Ferrari Roma Spider’s lines so that they retain their elegance with the top down. Exceptional torsional rigidity and beam stiffness figures for the bodyshell and chassis have been achieved despite an increase in weight of just 84 kg for a weight/power ratio of 2.5 kg/cv, which remains at the very top of the high-performance 2+ spider category. This impressive result also ensures that the Ferrari Roma Spider benefits from the same excellent handling and performance as the Ferrari Roma.

This increase was due in part to two factors. Firstly, the addition of the unique integrated wind deflector, which significantly improves occupant comfort. Secondly, the addition of headrests for the rear seats that visually integrate into the tonneau cover design.

The automatic fabric soft top guarantees occupant comfort on a par with the retractable hard top system equipping the other spider models in the range. The large rear glass screen is fully integrated into the soft-top geometry. The five-layer fabric dampens wind and road noise, making it quiet even at high speeds. During development, special attention was also paid to reducing the ballooning effect typical of soft tops. The technical solutions adopted by Ferrari’s engineers have thus guaranteed class-leading performance in these areas.

The soft-top mechanism was designed to be light yet resilient: it pushes technical performance limits to new heights thanks to a Z-shaped movement that folds the soft top away in a mere 13.5 seconds and up to a maximum speed of 60 km/h. When stowed, the roof occupies a height of just 220mm, which is the lowest in the category, and that, in turn, ensures a roomy boot (a class-leading 255 litres with the top up).

The gas springs used to extend the wind deflector were meticulously designed and developed to deliver controlled, smooth action at all stages of movement and in all conditions. The wind deflector can be opened at up to 170 km/h. The chance of opening the mechanism is automatically speed-limited to ensure that it can be deployed in safety. Once in place, the wind deflector can be used at any speed in open configuration.

The wind deflector retains all the features unique to a real backrest: the surface the rear occupants rest on is padded for comfort, while it is shaped to open even when the front seats are pushed back. The central duct compensates for the air pressure acting either side, improving the efficiency of its movement. The system’s kinematic points are the result of an in-depth study of the entire back seat and boot area, optimising their position in relation to movement and weight.

  • Audi RS e-tron GT project 513-2

Audi of America announced a limited offering of just 75 units of the 2023 Audi RS e-tron GT project_513/2. Developed in collaboration between Audi of America and Audi exclusive, customers now have the opportunity to drive a version of the e-tron GT that most closely resembles the prototype car. This limited edition leverages the original design used for global prototype testing with “e-tron” camouflage script on both the exterior and interior, and is exclusive to the U.S. market.

    Exterior design

The RS e-tron GT project_513/2 is the first Audi to offer a camouflage graphics-skinned and wrapped exterior from the factory. Camouflage graphics are often used by Audi for initial testing, and are designed to create confusion for onlookers that may be looking to capture the latest glimpse into automotive exterior design and technology before it is made public.

The exclusivity of the project is underlined by leveraging the internal code name as a special edition.

The project_513/2 represents the project naming convention which defines the product’s segment, generation, and body style. This naming is crafted early in the development process and is typically kept internal.

Audi exclusive leveraged the red and black color theme from the original prototype test mules, and presents for the first time “red” Audi rings on the front and rear of the exterior. Unique 21-inch aero wheels finished in black are framed with both front and rear ceramic brakes painted in red. Furthermore, the rear quarter glass is etched with the “project_513/2” logo that underlines its exclusivity.

    Interior Design

The interior is inspired by its exterior colors and design elements using red and black colored accents as well as Audi exclusive interior elements unique to the edition. The air vents have been painted in the exact red color used for the exterior Audi rings, while red also appears on other details such as the steering wheel, floor mats, and the Fine Nappa leather honeycomb stitched seats.

The dashboard introduces an Audi design first – Carbon fiber inlays with camo graphics that mimic the exterior design. These graphics include an innovative “partial matting” patented process, which is just a few thousandths of a millimeter deep, all primarily created by hand. The overall process includes the first component to be masked with a special foil, followed by glass media material that is pulled over the component using a suction jet method creating a distinctive, consistent look.

For the first time on an Audi, the center armrest leather is embossed with the name of a special edition with “project_513/2”. In addition, the RS e-tron GT project_513/2 introduces an innovative e-tron background on the standard 10.1” MMI infotainment screen that includes an exclusive “project_513/2” logo in the bottom corner.

Additionally, the RS e-tron GT project_513/2 presents an extensive list of standard equipment:

    • Fine Nappa leather seats with honeycomb stitching

    Pure performance

The Audi RS e-tron GT project_513/2 leverages the thrilling performance of the RS e-tron GT – Audi’s fastest 0-60 mph accelerating production model. Performance comes from two different motors (one on the front axle, and one on the rear axle) producing a combined 637 horsepower – making acceleration to 60 mph possible in just 3.1 seconds.

Enhancing performance and precision handling at all speeds, the project_513/2 comes with standard rear wheel steering. This unique system allows the rear wheels to turn up to 2.8 degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels at speeds up to about 30 mph for a tighter turning radius, while above 30 mph they turn in the same direction for greater stability and dynamics.

Already have an e-tron GT? Audi has you covered

Last year, Audi of America introduced the e-tron GT camouflage Indoor car cover for sale at audi-collection.com. The Indoor car cover holds the same camouflage wrap available on the RS e-tron GT project_513/2 made from a breathable and anti-static material, tailored specifically to fit your e-tron GT. The e-tron GT camouflage cover features black and white “e-tron” nomenclature underlined with elements of red and black color just like the limited edition model. For those customers that may not be fortunate enough to get one of the 75 limited edition units, the car cover will make anyone’s e-tron GT or RS e-tron GT look like they have the prototype in their garage.

To further celebrate the exclusivity of each individual project_513/2, customers will receive a never before offered special edition VIN art. The design: Sensual purity, intelligence and emotion

The defining feature of the new GLC Coupe is its sporty silhouette. It is immediately recognizable as a member of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family. Accentuating the width of the vehicle is the seamless transition from the headlights to the radiator grille. The Mercedes-Benz pattern is standard on the radiator grille cover.

The dramatic surfaces continue to define the exterior design, which is enhanced with precisely shaped edges that accentuate the proportions and the muscular wheel arches. They also strike a balance between elegance and power. The AMG Line package is fitted standard on the new GLC Coupe and features 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels, as well as wheel arch liners in body color. Customers can also personalize the vehicle”s exterior with the available Night package and running boards. Accentuating the width of the vehicle are the two-part tail lights with black and dark red connecting elements, closed off below by the simulated chrome underguard.

    The interior: Modern and sporty

The interior of the new GLC Coupe is equipped with the sporty AMG Line as standard, and showcases a dashboard that is clearly structured. The upper section has a wing-like profile with new, flattened vent outlets. The lower section has a generous trim area that flows seamlessly into the curved center console. The 12.3-inch high-resolution driver display appears to float freely above the wing profile and trim surface. The 11.9-inch central display rises from the center console and likewise appears to float above the trim surface. Like the dashboard, the screen surface is slightly angled towards the driver.

The modern, reductive design of the door panels frames both ends of the dashboard. The door center panel with integrated armrest transitions from a vertical to a horizontal surface. Reflecting the design of the center console, the front section takes the form of a metallic high-tech element. It can be used as a grab or closing handle and houses the power window controls. A new feature is the floating control cluster, into which the door opener and seat adjustment controls are integrated.

The seat design in the new GLC Coupe plays with layers and contoured surfaces, lending them visual lightness. The head restraints and their connection to the backrest with an enclosed cover is redesigned. The interior now also features a standard leather-lined dashboard with Nappa-look. Available trim elements include elegant interpretations of open-pore wood veneers in Natural Grain Walnut, Fineline Anthracite and Natural Grain Black with Aluminum inlays.

Dimensional concept and practical details for day-to-day operating convenience

The dimensions underscore the dynamic and muscular look of the new GLC Coupe. With a length of 187.5 inches (4,763 mm), it is 1.2 inches (31 mm) longer and 0.2 inches (5 mm) higher than its predecessor. The track widths are larger, by 0.2 inches (6 mm) at the front (now 64.1 inches / 1,627 mm) and 0.9 inches (23 mm) at the rear (now 64.6 inches / 1,640 mm). The longer vehicle length benefits the wheelbase and the front and rear overhangs. The width has remained the same at 74.4 inches (1,890 mm).

With even more trunk space than before, the GLC Coupe is ready for road trips. The new model features 19.2 cu ft of trunk space behind the second row seats (1.6 cu ft more than the preceding model) and 52.6 cu ft of trunk space with the second row seats folded down (an increase of 3.1 cu ft from the preceding model). The standard EASY-PACK tailgate opens or closes conveniently at the touch of a button using the ignition key, the switch in the driver”s door or the unlocking handle on the tailgate.

    Significantly improved aerodynamics

In its aerodynamically most favorable configuration, the minimal drag coefficient of the new GLC Coupe is as low as Cd = 0.27. This makes it three hundredths better than its predecessor (Cd = 0.30). The developers optimized the vehicle with respect to aerodynamic drag and wind noise with the help of extensive digital flow simulations (CFD – computational fluid dynamics) as well as tests in the aeroacoustic wind tunnel.

The new GLC Coupe is a pleasantly quiet vehicle with a serene sound signature and low rolling and wind noise. This is achieved with acoustic optimization of the bodyshell and sophisticated sound insulation. An acoustic membrane in the windshield is standard equipment. Heat and noise insulating glass, included in the optional Pinnacle Line package, meets even higher comfort expectations.

A panoramic sunroof is fitted standard, offering a significantly increased opening area – 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor. If necessary, the sunroof can be covered with the standard roller blind.

    Significant upgrades to standard equipment

The standard equipment of the new GLC Coupe now includes the AMG Line package, among a broad range of other new features. This includes large displays, the latest MBUX infotainment system, inductive wireless smartphone charging, heated seats for drivers and passengers, and Burmester® 3D Surround System with Sound Personalization and Music Streaming. In addition, the package logic has been considerably simplified. Features frequently combined by customers in the past are now offered as packages. Where design options such as paint finish, upholstery, trim and wheels are concerned, customers can configure their vehicles individually as before.

    Engine: Systematically electrified

The new GLC Coupe is available as a mild hybrid with a second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG) and 48-volt on-board electrical system. The integrated starter-generator supports the combustion engine especially at low engine speeds and complemented by the turbocharger, delivers outstanding power. The 48- volt on-board electrical system supports hybrid functions such as coasting, boost and energy recovery, for increased efficiency. The engine also starts quickly and comfortably with the help of the ISG, with the start/stop function barely perceptible to the driver.

    Suspension: Agility and safety

The dynamically designed suspension system of the new GLC Coupe is based on a new four-link front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension mounted to a subframe. The standard sport suspension and variable steering ratio also contribute to the vehicle”s agile handling.

    Assistance systems: Comfort and safety

The latest generation of the Driver”s Assistance2 package contains additional and improved functions and is available as an option. These reduce driver workload in day-to-day situations for more comfortable and safer driving and are able to respond to impending collisions as the situation demands. For example, the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC can maintain a pre-set distance to vehicles ahead on all road types. The current speed limit can be selected as the speed setting at the push of a button. The Active Brake Assist uses the sensors installed in the vehicle to detect imminent collisions with crossing or oncoming traffic or rear-end collisions. When a dangerous situation is detected, the system can issue an acoustic and visual alert. If the driver fails to brake hard enough, it can also assist by appropriately increasing the braking force or initiating an emergency stop. One of the new features of Active Steering Assist is lane detection with an additional 360-degree camera, which offers advantages especially at low speeds. The stop sign and red traffic light warning functions of the Traffic Sign Assist are new.

Sophisticated parking systems for support during slow maneuvers

Thanks to more powerful environment sensors, the parking systems can better support drivers when maneuvering. The integration of the sensors into MBUX makes operation more intuitive and provides support through the central display. Emergency braking functions also serve to protect other road users for improved road safety.

The Surround View system with 360-degree camera is available as standard. It also includes the “transparent hood” and Active Parking Assist functions with PARKTRONIC. The all-round visibility and parking assistance make it easier to maneuver during the parking process. The central display clearly shows the immediate surroundings. Four cameras (front, rear, both sides) provide the images, which are combined in a virtual bird”s-eye view. In addition, the display shows different viewing angles such as front or rear. The driver decides whether to use the displays to park the vehicle or to let the Active Parking Assist take control.

DIGITAL LIGHT: extremely bright with optional projection functions

The new GLC Coupe has LED High Performance headlamps as standard. DIGITAL LIGHT with projections is available as an optional extra. This technology uses a matrix of LEDs in the headlight unit that can be individually controlled to deliver a targeted and dynamic distribution and control of light in response to conditions. The result is excellent visibility for the driver without impairing that of other road users. The projections function offers extra safety for the driver by projecting guiding lines, symbols and animations and allows communication with other road users.

    Off-road with the GLC Coupe

The new GLC Coupe is also suitable for off-road driving and has several new features and systems designed for use off-road. Standard equipment includes an off-road driving mode and DSR (Downhill Speed Regulation).

In off-road mode, the GLC Coupe with the standard Surround View offers a “transparent hood.” The central display shows a virtual view under the front of the vehicle, including the front wheels and their steering position. This enables the driver to recognize obstacles in their path such as large rocks or deep potholes sooner and more easily.

The off-road screen mode uses the two displays for clear presentation of information, controls and key functions for off-road conditions. Among other things, the driver display shows inclination, gradient, topographical altitude, geo-coordinates and a compass, as well as vehicle speed and engine speed. The central display shows the vehicle”s current position on the terrain as well as the steering angle of the front wheels. All the driving functions relevant for off-road operation can be controlled easily on one screen.

    High level of passive safety

When it comes to crash safety, the new GLC Coupe meets the stringent Mercedes safety standards.

Together with the familiar PRE-SAFE® protection concepts for frontal and rear impacts, the PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side function forms a virtual crumple zone around the vehicle. It is optionally available with Driver”s Assistance package. As only a limited crumple zone is available in the case of a side impact, it pushes the affected driver or front-seat passenger towards the middle of the vehicle and away from the acute danger zone when the system detects a side collision is immediately imminent. To accomplish this, the system inflates air chambers in the side bolsters of the front-seat backrests in a fraction of a second.

All in all, the safety concept of the GLC Coupe is based on an intelligently designed body with a particularly rigid passenger cell, selectively deformable crash structures and situational interaction between the seat belts, belt tensioners and airbag systems. In addition to legal requirements, the vehicle also fulfils internal Mercedes-Benz test requirements and test criteria derived from real accidents.

The occupants are particularly well-protected by the vehicle structure in the event of a crash. The bodyshell concept incorporates all areas – front structure, passenger cell, side walls and floor assembly. All structural elements and body parts are designed to withstand stresses through the material mix and appropriate wall thicknesses. The overall concept leads to homogeneous load distributions and high energy absorption with moderate deceleration acting on the occupants. In addition, sufficient protective space is provided for them.

  • Ford Puma ST Powershift

Responsive, rewarding, fun-to-drive Ford Performance dynamics are now set to be enjoyed by even greater numbers of SUV customers as Ford today revealed the new Puma ST Powershift – introducing the most powerful version of Ford’s multi-award-winning 1.0‑litre EcoBoost engine ever.

Enhanced using 48-volt mild hybrid technology to deliver up to 170 PS peak power and 248 Nm peak torque, the multi-award-winning 1.0-litre engine is combined with a paddle-shift-operable, seven-speed, dual-clutch Ford Powershift transmission – seamlessly fusing energised driving experiences and everyday usability.

The new powertrain fully embraces the Sports Technologies moniker alongside existing performance-enhancing features from the optimised chassis of the 1.5-litre EcoBoost Puma ST – launched in 2020 – including bespoke twist-beam and anti-roll bar settings, and patented force vectoring springs.

Coupled with the compact SUV’s comfort, uncompromised interior space and innovative practical solutions including the Ford MegaBox, the versatile new Puma ST Powershift brings Ford Performance driving experiences within reach for even greater numbers of enthusiasts – delivering responsive 7.4-second 0-62 mph acceleration alongside 44.8 mpg fuel efficiency and 144 g/km CO2.

“The Ford Performance team called on all of its experience developing the original Puma ST to deliver ST signature fun-to-drive without losing the practicality of our compact SUV, and our new Powershift derivative is even more versatile. We’re using 48-volt mild hybrid technology not just to improve efficiency but also to enhance peak power and torque,” said Stefan Muenzinger, Ford Performance manager, Europe. “The multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is combined with a paddle-shift-operable, seven-speed, dual-clutch Ford Powershift transmission – fusing an energised driving experience and everyday usability.”

True ST Performance, mild hybrid efficiency

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid 48-volt mild hybrid technology offered to Puma customers since the SUV’s launch in 2019 is enhanced to deliver even greater performance for Puma ST Powershift.

The mild hybrid system engages energy recovery more quickly than in other applications for faster recharging of the 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. This enables the belt-driven integrated starter/generator (BISG) to offer a longer boost period of torque supplementation for enhanced performance at lower engine rpm. In addition, the increased energy recuperation allows a further 10 PS of electric assist from the BISG to boost peak power.

Combined with unique software tuning for the turbocharged, direct injected, three-cylinder petrol engine, the result is an almost 10 per cent increase in peak power compared with the 155 PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engine. Delivering up to 170 PS at 5,750 rpm and up to 248 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, the Puma ST Powershift produces exactly twice the power-per-litre of a 2002 Focus ST170.

Puma ST Powershift benefits from the same active exhaust valve technology as Puma ST for increased performance and a distinctive ST engine note under acceleration. Controlled by the selectable Drive Modes, the active exhaust valve remains closed in Normal and Eco modes for everyday refinement, but opens in Sport mode to intensify the sporty sound.

“The combination of a downsized engine and electrified technology helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions while providing accessible, everyday performance. Together with the recalibrated Powershift transmission, this package delivers smart performance and emotional ST fun-to-drive,” Muenzinger said.

Powershift to give the driver control

Developed to work seamlessly with Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engines, the seven-speed Ford Powershift transmission is optimised with revised software strategies that can maximise performance and efficiency for Puma ST Powershift customers.

In fully automatic mode, the dual-clutch gearbox provides smooth-shifting, effortless convenience and comfort – particularly stop-start traffic – and helps to keep the mild hybrid powertrain at the optimum rpm for efficiency. However, for truly exploiting the engine’s performance, triple downshifts enable faster overtaking when drivers request maximum acceleration. With Sport Drive Mode engaged, the transmission also holds lower gears for longer, for sportier responses. In addition, steering wheel paddle shifters allow manual control of shift points for full driver engagement.

The Powershift automatic also enables Stop & Go functionality for the available Adaptive Cruise Control, which can bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than three seconds, or resume after three seconds with the touch of a button or the accelerator. The transmission also enables a Remote Start function via the FordPass app.

    High specification ST chassis

A Puma ST Powershift chassis shared with the award-winning Puma ST sharpens responses using a rear suspension twist-beam rated at 2,000 Nm/deg torsional stiffness – an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the standard Puma – with a 28 mm anti-roll bar integrated into the U‑section and a 24 mm front anti-roll bar.

Ford’s patented force vectoring springs also improve the Puma ST Powershift’s stability, agility and responsiveness. The non-uniform, non-interchangeable, directionally-wound springs apply vectoring forces to the rear suspension and enable cornering forces to travel directly into the spring, for increased lateral stiffness.

This advanced spring technology is combined with Hitachi twin-tube frequency-reactive dampers at the front and rear, delivering the stiffness needed for enhanced body control alongside the compliance to isolate smaller road imperfections for high-speed refinement.

An 11.4:1 steering ratio – almost 25 per cent faster than the standard Puma – uses a combination of ST-specification front knuckles, steering arm and steering rack gearing, for heightened response during turn-in compared to the standard Puma, further supported by Torque Vectoring Control.

Enhanced braking performance is provided by 325 mm front discs – 17 per cent larger in diameter than the standard Puma specification. Puma ST Powershift’s brake booster is tuned for modulation, feel and feedback that supports performance driving, and the powertrain’s optimised energy recuperation also supports increased engine braking.

Design that combines form and function

A Ford Performance-embossed splitter integrated into the front bumper not only makes the Puma ST Powershift’s sports credentials immediately clear, but also increases front end downforce by almost 80 per cent versus the standard Puma. A large rear roof spoiler and distinctive rear diffuser also feature, while signature ST upper and lower front grilles are designed to maximise engine cooling capability and efficiency.

Puma ST Powershift introduces a new ST-exclusive Azura Blue signature colour among six exterior paint options. Complemented by an available gloss black finish for the roof and standard black grille surrounds, side spears, door mirror caps and rear roof spoiler, the SUV also offers a Magnetite finish on the standard 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, standard highlights include Ford Performance-developed sports seats finished in premium Sensico synthetic leather-effect material, a wireless charging pad, Quickclear heated windscreen, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, FordPass Connect modem, and Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™. Available driver assistance technologies include Pre-Collision Assist with Active Braking, Active Park Assist, Cross Traffic Alert with Active Braking, and Intelligent Speed Limiter.

Underlining the Ford Performance model’s versatility, Puma ST Powershift retains full Puma space and practicality, offering 456 litres of loadspace with the rear seats in place as well as the innovative Ford MegaBox that provides an 80-litre storage space beneath the boot floor – capable of comfortably accommodating two golf bags in an upright position.

“And, of course, the new Puma ST Powershift also delivers on the award-winning dynamic ability that our customers love,” Muenzinger said.

  • NOVITEC Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica

The body of the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica is designed for high downforce already ex-factory. The NOVITEC designers round out this concept with tailor-made aerodynamic-enhancement components.

While the front fascia remains stock, the production trunk lid is replaced with a special component from NOVITEC, which is also available in a naked carbon variant. The slits on the left and right direct the air through the hood via integrated ducts, which helps to further optimize the handling stability at high speeds.

The NOVITEC rocker panels, which of course are likewise available in a naked carbon variant, add some sporty highlights to the sides of the vehicle. They give the two-seater an even lower visual stance and thanks to their integrated air intakes also improve cooling of the rear brakes. The NOVITEC carbon covers for the side mirrors complete the racing looks.

In order to make the wedge shape of the Tecnica stand out even more prominently, NOVITEC swaps the standard 20-inch rims for NOVITEC NL4 wheels with diameters of 20 inches at the front and 21 inches on the rear axle. These wheels were tailored precisely to the available space under the wheel arches. And because this sports car can be ordered with a choice of centerlock or conventional five-bolt pattern, the tuning specialist’s rims are naturally also available in both variants.

Vossen produces these wheels with their particularly spectacular design using state-of-the-art forging and machining technology. Their six spokes taper off into the shape of a Y at the rim flange and thereby make these wheels look even larger than they already are. The front axle features size 9Jx20 wheels with 245/30 ZR 20 high-performance tires. Tires of size 325/25/ZR 21 mounted on 12.5Jx21 rims on the rear axle provide outstanding traction.

However, these NOVITEC wheels offer yet another advantage: With a palette of 72 colors plus a choice of brushed or polished surface finishes, Vossen fulfills even unusual customer requests.

The rear tires, which are wider than those of the production car, are not the only thing to make the handling of the rear-wheel drive Huracán even sportier and more direct. To this end, NOVITEC also offers professional suspension tuning for the Tecnica models with MAGNETO suspension.

The NOVITEC sports springs lower the ride height of the Lamborghini by about 35 millimeters. As an alternative, there is the NOVITEC aluminum coilover suspension, which was developed in cooperation with KW. It features 14 selectable settings for the damping behavior both in the low-speed and in the high-speed range. In addition, it allows lowering the ride height of the Lamborghini seamlessly by up to 35 millimeters.

NOVITEC also offers precision-tuned high-performance exhaust systems for optimizing the performance of the ten-cylinder engine that ex-factory produces 470 kW / 640 hp. They are available with or without active sound management by means of butterfly valves in the exhaust system. Both systems can be ordered either made from stainless steel or from even lighter INCONEL, a material also used in Formula 1 racing.

NOVITEC exhaust systems always feature thermal insulation to reduce the temperatures in the engine bay and thus optimize the performance and durability. The INCONEL version is optionally available with 999 fine gold plating, which has even more of a positive impact on the temperatures under the hood. All NOVITEC systems are designed so that they can be combined with the hallmark hexagonal tailpipes of the Tecnica.

Huracán owners wishing for a particularly exclusive interior find a huge variety of leather and Alcantara colors at NOVITEC, which the company masterfully transforms into a myriad of perfectly finished designs.

  • Maserati GT2 Racecar

Maserati is back. The Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari was the setting for the track debut of the high-performance GT2, the car that epitomizes the House of the Trident’s return to racing. The shakedown at the Parma circuit is the precursor to a series of events marking the run-up to the official unveiling of the car at the end of June in Belgium, at the 24 Hours of Spa.

Maserati is ready to reawaken the memories that saw it feature in the exciting GT championships, with a hungry new car designed to evoke the exploits of its forerunner, the glorious and victorious MC12.
The Trident’s history in motorsport is a story of successes spanning almost a century, of a unique and distinctive DNA, and of a passion being rekindled by the brand’s link with the potent legacy from the past and its drive towards the future, in which racing is an essential component.

Maserati GT2 is speed, elegance, style, and innovation incarnate. A car designed to be a masterpiece of performance: extraordinary and breathtaking between the kerbs, created to celebrate Maserati’s return to the circuits. A new chapter begun in late 2022 with the announcement of its participation in the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, complemented by its inclusion in the GT2 European Series, as part of the strategy developed to bring the Trident back on track.

Conceived and designed by Maserati engineering in tandem with the Centro Stile Maserati, to ensure the aesthetic quality standards typical of the brand, the Maserati GT2 inherits the extraordinary 463kW/630CV Nettuno V6 engine from the Maserati MC20, taking it to a higher level.

The most appealing technical specifications include the all-new patented MTC (Maserati Twin Combustion) technology based on F1 engines, the ultra-light carbon fiber central monocoque – an excellent solution to have a good weight-power ratio – and the lightweight full composite bodywork, where the aerodynamic features are exploited to the limit to improve the vertical load but at the same time ensuring the best efficiency in terms of drag. Much attention has been given to the development of the correct balance of the aerodynamic load, whereas the bottom has been developed specifically to work best in synergy with the front splitter and rear wing (adjustable); it has quick-release removable bodywork for optimized component replacement; the chassis features high torsional and bending stiffness.

The power steering is full-electric. All suspension components of the car are specific racing components – there will be adjustable shock absorbers and adjustable anti roll bars in both the front and rear. Likewise, the electronics. The 6-speed sequential racing gearbox and steering wheel paddle shift with electrical rotary gearshift actuator evoke adrenaline-fueled emotions.

The carbon fiber dashboard and the 10” display integrated into the dashboard result in a futuristic, intuitive cabin, complemented in the bodywork by the Maserati Corse-specific painting and livery option (Blu Infinito).

A gem of mechanics and engineering, the spearhead of innovative technical solutions, with futuristic, minimalist, and sculptural interiors referring to the extreme lines of the body, the Maserati GT2 is dedicated to the racing teams and gentleman drivers due to take part in the GT2 Championships.

The Trident single-seater with covered wheels is the result of a winning synergy between Maserati men and women and the avant-garde design and style that has always distinguished the creations of the Italian brand, complemented by its unmistakable flair of luxury, even when the road becomes a track. The fierce GT2 is therefore getting ready to explore new horizons, to consolidate and define Maserati’s racing future in the world of motorsport.

Andrea Bertolini, Maserati test driver, commented: “The first few days are always quite unique, even more so for me when I was fortunate enough to bring Maserati to success at the GT1 World Championships, where I won four titles. We are now about to get back on track with yet another wonderful car. We’ve done lots of trial runs and early feedback is positive. Getting back behind the wheel of a GT was really exciting, and I could see everyone involved was very enthusiastic and motivated. We’ve focused on developing a product that not only stands up to its competitors but is also an ideal car for our gentleman drivers in terms of handling, comfort, and performance. We want them to experience a unique feeling in this car. In the last few months, we’ve been working intensively in the simulator, courtesy of the commitment of a fantastic team. I’d like to thank them, and the most positive aspect is that to follow these first few days, we’re making it all a reality is to the very greatest extent. We have an intense series of test days ahead of us, to get us ready to get back on track.”
