    2021 Jaguar F-TYPE Heritage1

Jaguar is marking the 60th anniversary of the E-type sports car in 2021 with the introduction of a new limited-edition 575PS V8 Supercharged F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition. Just 60 examples of these all-wheel drive sports cars will be available for sale worldwide*, each one hand-finished by the personalisation experts at SV Bespoke.

A specially curated commemorative specification includes solid Sherwood Green paintwork, an original E-type colour that hasn’t been offered on a new Jaguar since the 1960s, and extended duo-tone Caraway and Ebony Windsor leather interior trim which isn’t normally available on F-TYPE.

The new limited-run model also features a unique aluminum console finisher inspired by the E-type’s rear-view mirror casing, the E-type 60th anniversary logo embossed on the headrests of the lightweight Performance seats and E-type 60 badging shared with the limited-edition E-type 60 Collection vehicles announced by Jaguar Classic earlier this year. Commemorative treadplates, an SV Bespoke commissioning plaque and Caraway-edged carpet mats provide finishing touches.

Mark Turner, Commercial Director, Jaguar SV Bespoke, said: “Celebrating 60 years of the iconic Jaguar E-type is the perfect moment to create our first-ever SV Bespoke limited edition – and the rarest F-TYPE, with just 60 cars available globally. We’ve worked closely with Jaguar Design to develop a theme for the F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition that pays homage to the E-type in a contemporary way. It’s testament to Jaguar’s sports car design lineage that the 1960s Sherwood Green colour looks as though it was designed for today’s F-TYPE.”

The F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition is available in both Coupé and Convertible body styles with exclusive Diamond-Turned Gloss Black 20-inch forged alloy wheels, Gloss Black and Chrome exterior accents and black brake calipers.

    Supercharged Performance

Launched in December 2019, the new F-TYPE R – which forms the basis of the new F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition – is exclusively all-wheel drive and features revised dampers, anti-roll bars and rear suspension knuckles for heightened driver engagement. Power is from Jaguar’s 575PS supercharged V8, which produces 700Nm of torque for outstanding pace in all conditions.

Performance is exceptional: the sprint from 0-60mph takes just 3.5 seconds, while maximum speed is an electronically-limited 186mph.

The F-TYPE also provides a suite of advanced driver-focused technologies, including a reconfigurable, high-definition, 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, Touch Pro Infotainment system and Smartphone Pack with Apple CarPlay® as standard.

  • Renault Clio 30 years

    2021 Renault Clio 30 years1

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the iconic Renault Clio supermini, the company’s most successful model and best-selling French car of all time.

The Clio was first shown in 1990 at the Paris Motor Show as the replacement to the successful and popular Renault 5. Light, efficient, spacious and comfortable, the Clio’s arrival marked a pivotal moment for Renault and would go on to become a multiple award-winner spanning five generations. More than 15 million Clios have left production lines around the world over the last 30 years, with more than 1.2 million making their way to UK roads and into the hearts of drivers and passengers alike.

The Clio has caught the attention of buyers over the years through a series of emotive, exciting and sensitive advertising campaigns – the iconic Papa and Nicole story for Clio I, Thierry Henry’s ‘Va Va Voom’ campaign for the second-generation car and the most recent advert for Clio V that details the story of the Clio over 30 years on sale, depicting a relationship story with a tone and message that reflects the times. It proved to be an award-winning viral hit that tugged at the heartstrings of the viewing public.

It’s not just the UK, though – the Clio is the second best-selling car in Europe and has been France’s most popular car for 21 of its years on sale.  Over the last 30 years, the Clio has been enhanced with every generation delivering greater comfort, more space, stronger performance, improved efficiency and the latest advanced technology. What’s remained consistent is the Clio’s identity. It provides the kind of refinement and appeal of a larger car but delivered in a small package that represents impressive value.

The model line-up has also expanded with each version, with a range of distinct models offering something for everyone. From great-value entry level models and luxurious variants to racers for the road engineered by the experts at Renault Sport and practical estate body styles, there’s been a Clio to suit all tastes throughout the last three decades.

    Clio I

Introduced in 1990, the first-generation immediately stood out. Officially presented as a small, versatile car designed and manufactured following the exact same stringent criteria as a ‘big little car’ as it was referred to at its launch at the Paris Motor Show in October of that year.

The Clio I was the replacement for the beloved and iconic Renault 5. It ushered in a new naming convention for the brand, replacing numbers with more emotive and memorable names.

The move from 5 to Clio also brought with it a significant step change in overall quality and refinement with a noticeable shift upmarket. It was a successful move as the Clio topped the sales rankings in France and achieved eight consecutive years of sales growth until it was replaced by the second-generation version.

It also went on to win European Car of the Year in 1991 where it was recognised for its “remarkable styling, strong quality levels, generous cabin space and unprecedented equipment for a model of this size.”

Following its triumphant win, the Clio clocked up 21,124 sales in the UK in 1991, increasing to 34,701 in 1992. The first full year on sale saw a 1.8-litre 16v RSi hot hatch and 1.9-litre diesel join the RL 1.2-litre 3-door and RT 1.4-litre 5-door models. RT models boasted electric front windows, remote central locking and a stereo radio/cassette – keeping Renault’s promise of offering big car equipment and refinements in a much smaller vehicle. The Clio I was also available as a two-seat van variant.

By 1994, the Clio made up 49% of all Renault UK sales, and a ‘phase 2’ arrived featuring subtle styling tweaks for a freshened look. A further ‘phase 3’ model came in 1996 with improved safety, design enhancements and mechanical changes to keep it in the UK top ten best sellers’ lists. 1997 was the final production year for the first-generation Clio but also its best sales year – notching up 58,033 sales in the UK for a total of more than 300,000 in its time on sale.

    Clio II

The Clio II would have big shoes to fill – the first-generation Clio was a sales hit and was found in the top 10 best sellers’ list for five years in a row before it went out of production. Launched in 1998, the Clio II debuted a curvy new look and a small increase in overall length, resulting in a more spacious and accommodating interior with an increase in the comfort thanks to larger seats and suspension engineered for comfort and refinement.

The Clio II was also the subject of a focused weight-saving regime, with the introduction of several advanced engineering solutions to help reduce the weight of the car. An aluminium bonnet featured on some models, while there were polycarbonate headlamp covers and composite front wings also available.

Safety was key to the Clio II’s appeal, with a suite of features available for the first time. ABS was fitted on 50 per cent of the Clio range or could be specified as an option, and front side airbags were available too. Both were firsts in the supermini segment. Up to four airbags in total could be specified, as could seatbelt pretensioners, while fingertip control for the stereo and power steering upped the convenience stakes.

At launch, the engine line-up was similar to the Clio I, with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrols and a 1.9-litre diesel. In 2000, a 16V
1.6-litre petrol was introduced, and the rest of the line-up was upgraded to 16V engines for enhanced performance and economy.

The Clio II received its first set of minor updates in 2000, including a revised instrument cluster and standard passenger airbag. This contributed to a class-leading four-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating, while a ‘phase 2’ version debuted in 2001 with changes to the front and rear styling for a sharper look, upgraded interior quality and a new 1.5-litre common rail injection turbo diesel engine.

Alongside the more angular front end and revised bumpers, the ‘phase 2’ Clio debuted further luxuries like digital climate control, xenon headlights and satellite navigation on the options list, equipment that was also available on the unique mid-engined, rear-wheel drive 3.0-litre V6 model and the lightweight Clio Renault Sport 172.

In 2002, the Clio achieved its highest sales ever, finding 86,335 homes in the UK.

By 2004 the Clio II benefitted from another update, with minor styling tweaks and specification changes to the interior. The Clio Renault Sport became the 182 thanks to an increase in power, while a choice of chassis options was available for the first time – standard and Cup.

    Clio III

Unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Clio III represented a significant change over its hugely successful predecessor – a car that carried on life in various forms, living on in the UK for a few years as the Clio Campus. The new third-generation car brought in some big changes for the Clio name. Interior quality stepped up once again, with more finesse, more space and more equipment.

Familiar Expression, Dynamique and Privilege trim levels were the core models available to customers, with a host of unique special edition derivatives joining the range throughout the car’s life cycle, ranging trendy Rip Curl and I-Music to luxurious Initiale and warm GT hatch.

For the first time, the Clio was available with Renault’s handsfree key card and starter button, an advanced GPS system and cruise control with speed limiter. The choice of specifications was broad as well, with a comprehensive selection of engines and trim levels, including Renault Sport versions available in several forms throughout its production.

The Renault Sport version of the Clio III boasted 197hp and was made available in a variety of forms, with a dedicated Cup chassis and specification for enthusiasts, or Lux models for added everyday refinement.

The Clio III was the first car in the supermini category to be awarded a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating, scoring top marks in active and passive safety. It was available with up to eight airbags throughout.

A practical Estate version was also available for the first time, boasting a versatile load area and generous interior space making full use of the Clio III’s longer wheelbase and larger footprint.

In 2006 – its first full year of sales – the Clio III was awarded the European Car of the Year award, making it the first time a vehicle had ever been awarded the prestigious title twice.

    Clio IV

The fourth-generation Clio made its debut in 2012 featuring a striking new design by Laurens van den Acker, inspired by the stunning DeZir concept car – a model that previewed Renault’s future design direction with a more emotive look.

The Clio IV introduced a range of new technologies, including Renault’s R-LINK media system which made a touchscreen system available for the first time, with a range of advanced settings and customisations features. The theme of customisation was also key with a total of four different interior design schemes available alongside a broad choice of exterior design components to giving owners more choice than ever –  a theme which has continued to later vehicles in the form of exterior and interior colour packs.

The Clio IV was powered by a range of TCe petrol and dCi diesel engines all majoring on economy, while the first automatic Clio R.S. was introduced with paddle shifters and a powerful turbocharged petrol engine.

The Clio IV was enhanced over time with the addition of a range of new technologies, including handsfree parking and full LED front lighting. The appeal of Clio IV’s desirable exterior style is evident in the Clio V – a subtle yet sophisticated evolution of its predecessor’s concept car style.

    Clio V

Ahead of its 30th year, Renault introduced the All-New Clio – its most advanced, premium and accomplished Clio ever. As with all new versions of Clio, the fifth-generation model represents a remarkable advance in its capabilities while retaining the characteristics that have ensured its enduring popularity with each generation. For Clio V, the exterior evolved from the previous generation, while the interior design and quality received a revolutionary change, featuring more technology and innovative features than ever.

The All-New Clio boasts technology and features found on larger and more expensive models in the Renault line-up, bringing the very best of the brand to a wider range of buyers, with advanced driver assistance systems, the very latest infotainment systems and the most accomplished driving experience, backed up by a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating.

Clio hallmarks of high standards of comfort and interior space are found in the All-New Clio, with the largest boot in its class at 391 litres, a spacious interior compartment and supremely comfortable seats.

The revolutionary interior has delivered exceptional progress, not only for Renault, but across the entire supermini class, offering a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and up to 10-inch TFT Driver Information Display, wrapped up in a high-quality design engineered to be as refined, ergonomic and engaging for the driver and passengers as possible.

Following Renault’s line-up of Play, Iconic, S Edition and R.S. Line models, the All-New Clio boasts the most expansive range of engine options than ever before, with efficient TCe and dCi powertrains bolstered by the advanced new E-TECH hybrid powertrain.

The All-New Clio E-TECH Hybrid uses advanced technologically inspired by engineering used in Formula 1 race cars, utilising high-tech energy optimisation systems, brake regeneration and clutchless multimode automatic transmissions. These advanced features contribute to the All-New Clio E-TECH Hybrid’s ability to travel up to 80 per cent of urban journeys in zero tailpipe emissions electric mode.

The latest Clio is available to order now via a range of Renault’s latest online sales tools or in retailers. The Renault Virtual Showroom allows customers to view a particular car in a one-to-one tour with a Renault guru, while the Online Stock Reservation tool and Select & Collect enable customers to reserve and their car all from the comfort of their home before collecting from their chosen retailer.

The striking Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition has been created by the marque’s personalisation service, Q by Aston Martin, in celebration of the partnership between the two British luxury brands. Just 18 special edition Bowmore DBX’s will be built before they are delivered to customers at a private lifestyle experience in Scotland.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President & Chief Creative Officer said: “Aston Martin DBX has provided the perfect canvas for the highest level of Q by Aston Martin customisation. The Aston Martin and Bowmore brands share the same vision of creating timeless beauty and a lasting legacy, loyal to their heritage but also embracing new methods and this is reflected in the DBX Bowmore edition. Strips from the copper whiskey stills are inlayed into the side strakes and Bowmore Tweed accents the interior, Q by Aston Martin has once again created a beautiful, limited edition Aston Martin.”

The Bowmore DBX is enrobed in a striking paint colour, named Bowmore Blue, an existing archive colour which has been brought back exclusively by Q by Aston Martin for this car. Customers will have the option to choose an alternative exterior paint colour should they so wish. Xenon Grey paint, which displays a blue metallic fleck throughout, will be offered as an additional exterior option. Bowmore-branded copper inlays using copper from the original whisky still have been used to accent the side strakes of the DBX, as a nod to the traditions maintained by the company.

Optional black brake calipers provide a subtlety to the smoked wheels and the overall elegance of the exterior is highlighted by both script and wing Aston Martin badges and Q by Aston Martin fender badges.

Customers can choose either the Obsidian Monotone or Copper Tan Metallic/Obsidian Duotone interior, both choices accented throughout by flashes of Bowmore Tweed, reflecting the company’s Islay ancestry. Created by the world-renowned Islay Woollen Mill, which was first established in 1883, the subtle and sophisticated design, incorporates copper and blue inspired by the island’s terroir and lochs, making it inherently unique to Bowmore and its island home.

In addition, the interior holds many Q by Aston Martin design details such as polished copper cupholders, and sill plaques, made of recycled copper from the original Bowmore still. Aston Martin’s unique partnership with Bowmore has already created ‘Black Bowmore DB5 1964’, bringing together an exceptional single malt and a genuine piston from the legendary Aston Martin DB5. As the two iconic brands continue to collaborate, further luxury products and incredible lifestyle experiences will follow.

The Q by Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition is on sale globally now and customer deliveries will take place in Q4 2021.

  • Polestar vehicles

    2021 Polestar vehicles1

Polestar, the electric performance car brand, has collaborated with luxury fashion house Balenciaga to help showcase its latest fall collection.

The new fashion collection will debut in “Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow”, afuturistic video game set in the year 2031. The team at Balenciaga approached Polestar to help add depth to the virtual environment by placing Polestar cars on the streets in the game.

Inspired by the Polestar Design Contest, the gamified city will feature futuristic vehicles designed by the Polestar Community, as well as Polestar’s own Precept. Vehicles from designers including Konrad Cholewka, Arthur Martins, Charlie Nghiem, Rash Tagirov, Mattias Waltz and John McInnis were all chosen.

Balenciaga comments: “Balenciaga’s first video game, Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow, is set in a near and hopeful future. To make the setting more realistic and exciting, Balenciaga chose to work with other forward-thinking companies, populating the game with their newest designs. The innovative electric vehicles, including the 3x Moto, the MMXL, the 0, the Pickup, and the Polestar Precept, compliment Balenciaga’s ideas on luxury and sustainability, and so made a great addition to the project.”

Polestar believes that open collaborations lead to innovation, and the brand is building a reputation for identifying and working with so-called kindred spirits. On this occasion though, it was the other way round and Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia was so intrigued he reached out to see if Polestar wanted to be part of the project.

“At Polestar, our aim is to be a leader in the shift to sustainable mobility, as we design towards zero. When Balenciaga reached out and explained the Afterworld project, inspired by the slow return to a healthier balance of nature and industry, we felt it was a perfect match for us,”says Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar.

  • Volvo XC60

    ??????????

Volvo’s award-winning XC60 mid-size SUV is now available with a full range of electrified powertrains. The former World Car of the Year is offered purely with hybrid power, from mild-hybrid petrols and diesels to petrol-electric plug-in hybrids.

    Mild-hybrid powertrains

Every mild-hybrid powertrain in the XC60 range combines a powerful 2.0-litre engine with a 48-volt battery and a KERS kinetic energy recovery system to reduce fuel consumption and improve driveability and response, especially at low speeds. An integrated starter generator also provides faster, quieter restarting of the engine.

This mild-hybrid set-up can be combined with front-wheel drive in the 197hp B4 diesel and 250hp B5 petrol for optimum efficiency, or with all-wheel-drive for extra stability and security, especially in slippery conditions. The 235hp B5 diesel and 300hp B6 petrol mild-hybrids are offered exclusively with all-wheel drive.

    Extensive plug-in hybrid range

The XC60 is available with three plug-in hybrid powertrains. These combine a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that drives the front wheels and an electric motor that powers the rears, ensuring the plug-in hybrid’s exceptional efficiency is twinned with the reassurance of all-wheel drive.

Recently introduced to the XC60 range, the entry-level plug-in is the Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T6. Despite having a total of 340hp from its petrol engine and electric motor for stirring performance when needed, its high-voltage battery enables it to travel up to 32 miles on electric power alone, with no tailpipe emissions and without using a drop of petrol. Its CO2 emissions from 55g/km are the lowest of any XC60, while WLTP Combined fuel economy is up to 113.0mpg. It also sits in the 14% BIK band for company car tax, making it a cost-effective choice for company car drivers.

The Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T6 is available in popular R-Design and Inscription trim levels, along with keenly priced Inscription Expression (£50,695 on-the-road), which makes a plug-in hybrid XC60 more accessible than ever.

Sitting above the T6 is the 390hp Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8, which is available in highly specified R-Design Pro and Inscription Pro form. The range-topper is the 405hp Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8 Polestar Engineered, which has a series of powertrain, suspension and brake upgrades to make it the most dynamic of all XC60s.

Every plug-in hybrid XC60 has a 11.6kWh high-voltage battery that can be completely recharged in as little as two and a half hours.

    An XC60 for all tastes

Steve Beattie, Volvo Car UK Head of Sales, said: “The XC60 has always had the perfect blend of luxury, technology and safety, and now, thanks to the latest advanced hybrid powertrains, it has broader appeal for both private buyers and company car drivers.

  • BMW Motorsport SIM Racing

    2021 BMW Motorsport SIM Racing1

BMW Motorsport is expanding its sim racing activities in the coming year. As well as various different BMW SIM Cup formats, it will focus on new partnerships with four top teams and founding a “BMW Motorsport SIM Academy”. A “BMW SIM World Tour” is also planned, and is scheduled to start with a roadshow in Austria in 2021. Even more virtual BMW race cars will be available on the most important sim racing platforms, and the development of innovative sim racing hardware with BMW Motorsport know-how will also continue. The goal is to incorporate the sim racing community as an equal partner in all programmes and, together, to continue the boom that virtual motor racing in Esports has enjoyed in 2020.

“In recent months, we have experienced an incredible dynamic in sim racing,” said Rudolf Dittrich, Head of BMW Motorsport SIM Racing. “At BMW Motorsport, we have learned a lot this year and are determined to put what we have learned into practice, with regard to our 2021 programme. The area of hardware development will also focus on technological innovations and new developments next year. Our BMW SIM Cups will once again play an important role, but in an adapted form. Our cooperations with four of the best sim racing teams in the world, and our new academy, see us continue our approach of promoting sim racing as part of the community through mutual dialogue. Together, we will continue to fuel the growth in this exciting Esports sector. The BMW Motorsport sim racing programme provides the ideal basis for this.”

    BMW SIM Cups.

Last year’s successful Cup formats on various sim racing platforms will be continued and expanded in 2021. This allows the best sim racers in the world to continue to compete in the BMW M8 GTE on the iRacing platform within the BMW SIM GT Cup. Over the course of the year, the BMW M4 GT3 will also be introduced. The virtual version of this car is currently being developed by iRacing at the same time as the real car is being developed. The BMW SIM M2 CS Racing Cup will also offer spectacular racing again. However, it will no longer take place exclusively on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, but at various racetracks within the support programme for the GT Pro Series on rFactor 2. New to the programme is the BMW SIM Time Attack by Assetto Corsa Competizione. This sees drivers race against the clock with the BMW M4 GT4 in monthly competitions. All participants have the same goal: to compete at the BMW SIM Live event, which will once again provide the stage for the grand finales of all the BMW SIM Cups in 2021.

BMW Motorsport cooperates with top sim racing teams.

The partnerships with four of the best sim racing teams in the world underline the fact that BMW Motorsport is very ambitious and determined to celebrate victories in Esports. Team Redline, Williams Esports, G2 Esports and BS+COMPETITION will compete with BMW cars and represent BMW Motorsport at many top-class sim racing events on the biggest platforms in 2021. Each team brings its own specific strengths and different focusses to the partnership. Team Redline can look back on a unique success story in sim racing and is one of the favourites in every race that features a Redline car. The Williams Esports team is positioned very broadly in sim racing and regularly challenges for victories and titles on many different platforms – with the same name as the Formula 1 team. BS+COMPETITION has a big squad of so-called hybrid racers, who are successful in real and virtual motor racing. BMW and G2 Esports already cooperate successfully in other areas of Esports. Sim racing is now being added to this cooperation. The focus of G2 Esports Sim Racing is on outings in the Assetto Corsa Competizione simulation.

    BMW Motorsport SIM Academy.

With the construction of its own academy, sim racing is being given a physical home at BMW Motorsport. At the “Home of BMW Motorsport SIM Racing”, ambitious and inexperienced sim racers will be given the opportunity to call on the extensive range of training opportunities and motor racing expertise at BMW Motorsport. This begins with coaching from professional sim racers in the BMW Motorsport SIM Racing partner teams, and continues through to mental training courses, which BMW works drivers have been attending regularly for many years, in order to optimise their concentration during races. The training sessions at the BMW Motorsport SIM Academy are available streamed online and – as soon as it is possible again – in person. The academy is currently being set up. Further details of this programme will be announced during the first half of 2021.

    BMW SIM World Tour.

Also new for 2021 is the BMW SIM World Tour. This will – if the pandemic situation allows it – kick off in April 2021 with an innovative roadshow through Austria, under the motto “From Showroom to Racetrack”. Mobile BMW racing simulators offer customers and interested parties the opportunity to enjoy an immersive motorsport experience, with the prospect of winning attractive prizes and a place in the national final. A total of 40 event days throughout Austria are planned for the pilot project. The car of choice for the virtual heats will be the entry-level model in the BMW M Customer Racing range – the BMW M2 CS Racing.

  • Revealed: Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged

    2021 Aston Martin Vantage V121

R-Reforged has revealed the first brace of cars created to celebrate Zagato’s centenary, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged. Making their debut are the first pair of TWINS, which are prototypes specified by Andrea and Marella Zagato and reserved for the private Zagato collection. Exclusively available as a pair, in Coupé and Speedster form, just 19 customer sets of the desirable Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged will be sold. Each pair will be hand assembled in R-Reforged’s new 2,800 square metre premises in Warwick, UK.

Styled at Zagato’s Milan headquarters, the iconic Italian design house has evolved the 2011 Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Coupé form and created a new, pure Speedster twin. Sharper, cleaner and highly collectible – thanks to their limited run and significance in Zagato’s history – both are now fully clothed in carbon fibre. The design changes run from the nose, which incorporates a new splitter and front wings, through to the sleeker tail, now with active aero that transforms the cars’ balance but retains the defined Zagato lines whilst at rest. The TWINS can be specified as matching or individual designs, with owners already benefitting from one-to-one time with the car’s designers and engineers to personalise virtually every element.

“The essence of this project was to create a perfect ‘garage’, comprising two desirable and collectable cars; Coupé and Roadster,” says Andrea Zagato. “Limited to just 19 pairs, a significant number, recalling the year Zagato was formed, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged mark a remarkable milestone for the Milanese atelier. Despite having created over 450 models since our formation, we chose Aston Martin, which has surely been our most prestigious partner over the last 50 years, to mark this celebration. The cooperation with R-Reforged ensured that we could create an instant classic.”

The 19 owners of this rare and special series, licenced by Aston Martin, will also experience the significant transformation to vehicle performance delivered through a series of meaningful engine and dynamic improvements. Pure and aggressive, the potent 5.9-litre V12 now packs close to 600bhp, up 80bhp over standard, thanks to R-Reforged’s engineers opting for the performance aluminium air intake and Titanium exhaust, accentuating arguably one of the world’s greatest engine soundtracks. The lean stance of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged is enhanced by the 10 mm ride height reduction and 20 mm stretched track. At each corner sit 19” centre lock wheels forged by Formula One supplier APP Tech, with an increased offset, wrapped in Michelin’s revered Pilot Sport 4S rubber.

A comprehensive CFD programme led engineers to develop a new front splitter and active aero wing that will significantly improve balance and poise.

The superior quality of materials and attention to detail are evident in every facet of the car’s build with
R-Reforged’s team leaving no stone unturned in its ambition to create cars truly worthy of marking Zagato’s centenary. R-Reforged is now able to offer a full body ‘visual carbon’ finish as a further option. The 400-hour process requires extensive and careful preparation so as not to disturb the carbon weave, before the subsequent application of a bespoke lacquer providing UV stability prior to tuning both the colour and density of the tint to any shade requested. Alternatively, the body paint colour can be matched to any sample, whether matt, satin or gloss. Ultimately, each TWIN is truly individual and bespoke for each owner.

Inside are sensory rich materials, including Bridge of Weir’s finest Grade A leather with an almost infinite range of colours, bespoke patterns and textures. Choices to-date include a mottled surface texture, just like that of a pebble, and gloss leather to complement the exterior body finish.

A closer look inside reveals further touches that underline R-Reforged’s forensic approach to the build. These include colour matching the horn push button on the steering wheel, the first time in the Vantage’s history that has been done. Other examples include a sleeker, longer windscreen for the Speedster and retooling the entire carpet boot moulding, which required a significant investment, purely because the original material and form did not meet R-Reforged’s stringent standards.

Assembled with pride in Warwick, UK, at R-Reforged’s newly expanded 2,800 square metre facility, each car takes a team of 12 craftspeople 16 weeks to assemble. All cars are extensively stripped, analysed and thoroughly refreshed before receiving over 500 new components to ensure the finished car is both aesthetically and performance wise pin sharp.

“Revealing these cars marks an incredibly special moment in both Zagato’s long history and in our own, very short journey of just three years,” says R-Universe’s CEO Thomas Mayer. “We have brought together an incredible team of engineers and craftspeople to develop and produce these beautiful, exquisitely detailed cars that amplify the design, craftsmanship, performance and ownership experience of the original.”

Underlining that ownership is about more than just buying the cars: owners will also receive a series of incredibly special tailored gifts that starts with a TWINS carbon fibre presentation case, cataloguing specification details using scale models and samples. Customers will continue to receive a stream of themed gifts, invitations and experiences throughout their ownership.

Ensuring the cars’ performance matches the build quality and finish, the prototype cars will be used to determine final geometry, damper settings and spring settings at Spain’s IDIADA test facility early in 2021. Before then, these TWINS, which are ultimately destined to reside in Zagato’s private collection, will be on display at flagship dealership Aston Martin St. Gallen in Switzerland until early in the New Year before embarking on a global tour including the US and Europe.

  • Hybrid drive finds another new home at Audi as Q3 SUV joins the TFSI e family

    Audi Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e / Audi Q3 45 TFSI e

Another convert to the zero local emissions movement is confirmed today as the new Q3 45 TFSI e stakes its claim as the first ever plug-in hybrid Audi model in the compact SUV class. The eighth member of the flourishing electrified TFSI e family will be available to order in the UK next spring in Q3 and coupé-inspired Q3 Sportback forms, the former featuring Technik, S line, Black Edition and particularly sumptuous Vorsprung specification options and the latter starting at S line level. In both a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and an 85 kW electric motor generate a system output of 245PS to enable travel without tailpipe emisions for up to 31 miles* between charges.

“TFSI e models are a perfect stepping stone on the path to electrification for Audi customers who are keen to play their part in the decarbonisation of our environment, but who are perhaps delaying making the leap of faith to a full EV due to lingering concerns about charging and range,“ says Director of Audi UK Andrew Doyle. “Like our other PHEV models, the new Q3 TFSI e can help to allay those concerns by proving how easily an EV can be assimilated into life, while also offering the safety net of an economical combustion engine which can greatly expand its range and refuelling possibilities if required. It’s a great way to begin gradually embracing the future of mobility.“

245 PS of system output, 13 kWh of energy capacity: the drive and the battery
The four-cylinder 1.4 TFSI petrol engine powering both new Q3 models contributes a healthy 150PS output, and this is supplemented by the 85 kW of power delivered by the permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM). Together, they generate 180 kW of system power (245 PS) and system torque of 400 Nm (295.02 lb-ft), on the strength of which both variants can reach 62mph from a standing start in 7.3 seconds and top out at 130mph.

The PSM is integrated into the housing of the six-speed S tronic transmission together with the separating clutch. This dual-clutch transmission transfers the power to the front wheels, and integrates an electric oil pump which maintains supply even when the TFSI engine is switched off to enable normal functioning and gear selection to continue.

The high-voltage battery is located under the vehicle floor in front of the rear axle and belongs to a new generation of compact and relatively lightweight units with enhanced storage capacity. Its 96 prismatic cells store 13.0 kWh of energy and maintain optimal performance with help from their own cooling circuit, which can also be coupled to the circuit used by the air conditioning system to ensure effective cooling even when requirements are at their highest.

Focus on efficiency: the drive management system
Optimal efficiency at every stage of a journey and in every scenario is naturally the overriding aim of the drive management system, so both new SUVs are always started in electric mode, except in extremely cold conditions.  At low speeds, their AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) emits an e-sound to warn other road users of their presence. Both versions can cover up to 31 miles* at speeds of up to 87mph in electric-only mode with zero local emissions according to the WLTP test.

In “Auto-Hybrid” mode, the main operating mode, the drive management system divides the tasks between the 1.4 TFSI and the electric motor intelligently and efficiently. The electric motor supports the four-cylinder engine in a wide range of situations, such as when overtaking or when accelerating from low speeds, when it uses its strong and rapidly produced torque to imperceptibly bridge the few tenths of a second needed by the turbocharger to build up pressure.

Drivers can prioritise electric drive at a touch of the EV button. The drive management system constantly evaluates data from numerous sources, including the route information from the navigation system and feedback on the immediate surroundings from the vehicle sensors, to enable it to identify when the car is approaching a town sign, a speed limit or a roundabout, or is getting too close to the vehicle ahead. When the accelerator pedal is released, the Audi Q3 45 TFSI e and the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e start to coast with the TFSI engine switched off in most situations.

The right mode for the right requirements: “Hold”, “Charge” and dynamic
While the drive management system intelligently exerts its influence in the background, the driver always remains in control. Pushing the EV button determines which of the auto hybrid and electric-powered driving modes is active, and at the same time provides access to others  –  “Battery Hold” and “Battery Charge” – offered by menus that open up in the MMI operating system at the same time. These serve to keep the battery charge at the current level or to increase the state of charge. The driver can also fine tune the response of elements including the steering, engine and transmission using the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. It offers Comfort, Auto , Dynamic and Individual profiles, and in the Dynamic setting can make the full 330Nm (243.4 lb-ft) torque reserve of the electric motor available to the driver for up to 10 seconds if the S tronic is set to “S” mode and the accelerator is fully depressed. As soon as the pedal is released again, the electric motor switches to recuperation and recovers energy in generator mode. In this way, the vehicle can also decelerate quickly thanks to its electric motor.

Irrespective of the driving profile, both models always recuperate when the driver applies the brakes. Up to around 0.3 g – i.e. in the vast majority of braking situations encountered in everyday driving – the electric motor performs the deceleration alone. It is only when the brake pedal is applied more heavily that the hydraulic wheel brakes come into play, activated by an electric brake servo. Thanks to the precise blending, the transition is practically undetectable, and the recuperation remains active. During braking, the system can recover up to 40 kW of power through the electric motor and store this in the battery.

Conveniently versatile: charging at home and on the go
The Audi Q3 45 TFSI e and the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e can be charged using alternating current via a domestic AC wallbox using the Type 2 cable supplied. The process can be completed in 3h 45 minutes, and can be remotely controlled using the free myAudi app, which enables the driver to define activation and deactivation times and also to remotely activate the climate control via a smartphone or tablet to pre-heat or cool the cabin before a journey begins. A mode 3 cable is also supplied for charging at public AC charging terminals, a process which can be expedited through the use of the e-tron Charging Service, which gives TFSI e drivers the opportunity to recharge at more than 155,000 charging points across Europe with just a tap of a single RFID card that generates one convenient monthly invoice.

To make light work of long journeys the comfort suspension that is standard for Technik (Q3 only), S line and Black Edition versions of the Q3 45 TFSI e and Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e provides suppleness and absorbency for smooth, serene electric-only travel but also a good degree of agility for more press-on driving. Vorsprung versions are equipped with an electronically controlled suspension system with adaptive damping which smoothes surfaces and straightens out corners even more impressively. The standalone Q3 Technik model rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the SUV and Sportback move up to 19-inch rims when equipped to S line and Black Edition level, and to a 20-inch design in Vorsprung form.

From S line level upwards all models benefit from privacy glass and the exclusive S line design for the bumpers, sill trims and diffuser, while Black Edition and Vorsprung versions add a black styling pack which darkens elements such as the grille surround, window cappings, roof rails (SUV only) and door mirror housings. LED lighting is standard across the board, with Vorsprung versions upgrading to Matrix LED units for even more precisely targeted illumination. S line interior detailing is common to all specification options bar the entry level Technik, with Piano Black inlays and a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel setting apart the Black Editions.

True to form in the Q3 range the seats offer excellent comfort, and the rear bench is notable for offering forward and backward adjustability to prioritise luggage or passengers. Its backrests are also divided into three sections and recline at seven different angles. The luggage compartment has a basic volume of 380 litres which increases to 1,375 litres in the Q3 45 TFSI e and 1,250 litres in the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e when the seats are folded down.

Experts in networking: Infotainment and Connectivity
Two displays form the basis of the operating and display concept in the new TFSI e models. Centrally positioned in the instrument panel, the MMI touch unit with its 10.1 inch screen shows the operating status of the hybrid drive system and is the access point for the top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus, which is a standard feature of all UK versions. Its functions are displayed on the MMI Touch display and in the instrument binnacle by the Audi virtual cockpit with its 10.25-inch screen, which is also standard. An expanded version with additional functions – the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus – is fitted to Vorsprung models. In both formats a powermeter can be called up to show the drive system’s operating status, output and recuperation phases, the battery’s state of charge, and the range. Functions can be activated via the central touch screen, through the multi-function steering wheel or using natural-language voice control, which can source information stored in the cloud when formulating its responses to commands.

Access to the Audi connect portfolio is included for all versions on a three-year subscription basis and supplements the navigation with Google Earth mapping, traffic information online, points-of-interest search functionality and Car-to-X services based on the principle of swarm intelligence. These include updates on available roadside parking spaces in the vicinity and notifications of upcoming hazards and speed limits sourced through the networking of the Audi fleet. Audi connect also includes media streaming, online news and access to e-mail.

The Audi smartphone interface is standard, and enables a handset‘s Apple Car Play or Android Auto environment to be reproduced on the MMI display. Vorsprung versions also feature upgrades including the Audi phone box for inductive wireless charging of mobile handsets and the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound, as well as enhancements such as a panoramic glass sunroof, Alcantara and Twin leather-upholstery, front electric seat adjustment and heating and a host of additional driver assistance aids. A particular highlight among these is adaptive cruise assist, which supports the driver with acceleration, steering and braking within the limits of what is currently legally permissible, substantially enhancing comfort on long journeys in particular. These features add to a core package of assistance features for all models that includes Audi pre sense basic, pre sense front, Audi side assist blindspot monitoring and lane departure warning.

2021 Bentley Continental Pikes Peak GT1

The 15 striking Pikes Peak Continental GT by Mulliner limited edition cars have made their way around the world to their new owners. Celebrating Bentley’s record-breaking run up the world-renowned Pikes Peak course in Colorado, USA, this unique and exclusive run has already sold out, with buyers across four different continents testament to its truly global appeal.

The Pikes Peak Continental GT Limited Edition is part of Bentley Mulliner’s new ‘Collections’ portfolio and is restricted to just 15 vehicles, hand-built at Bentley’s carbon-neutral factory in Crewe, England.

Owners are spread around the world, in locations as far apart as Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, New Zealand, Latvia and the United Kingdom. Five of the new owners come from the USA, home to the world-renowned course in Colorado, with cars arriving across the country – from New York (Manhattan), to Florida (Fort Lauderdale), to Michigan (Troy), California (Rancho Mirage) and Nebraska (Omaha).

Eighteen months ago, a race-prepared version of a standard W12-powered Continental GT beat the coveted time for a production car by more than eight seconds, climbing almost 5,000 ft through Pikes Peak’s 156 bends in just 10 minutes, 18.4 seconds. The world’s finest Grand Tourer was driven on that occasion by three-time Pikes Peak champion, former ‘King of the Mountain’, Rhys Millen.

To match the look of the record-breaking car, a third of customers have opted for the Mountain Decal Event Livery for their Limited Edition Continental GTs, whilst three owners have chosen a subtle gloss black exterior paint finish.

All 15 Pikes Peak Continental GT by Mulliner cars honour Bentley’s achievements on the world’s most demanding hill climb. Bentley first achieved the record for fastest production SUV with the Bentyaga in 2018, and then the outright production car record with the Continental GT the following year.

    Eye-Catching Detail

The Pikes Peak Continental GT Limited Edition is distinguished by exclusive Radium by Mulliner paintwork, complemented by a lightweight, carbon fibre body kit. Acid Green brake calipers and Pirelli P Zero Colour Edition tyres add to the eye-catching detail.

The front, lower bumper inserts are enhanced with gloss black detailing, mirrored on the roof panel, wing mirrors and rear surfaces. Combined with a Pikes Peak decal on the front fender, the distinctive appearance hints at the Limited Edition’s record-breaking lineage.

Mulliner’s 22-inch Driving Specification wheels in Gloss Black are standard, while an optional ‘100’ grille celebrates the fact that the record-breaking Pikes Peak run took place in Bentley’s centenary year.

The sporting theme continues inside the luxurious cabin, where Alcantara with contrasting Radium thread stitching adorns much of the soft trim areas. A honeycomb Radium stitching design to the steering wheel is complemented by a radium strip across the middle, matching the Pikes Peak race car.

The fascia design on the passenger side sports a graphic design showing a section of the famous Pikes Peak track itself, with five different graphics being used across the 15-car run, along with the record-breaking time of 10:18.488.

Pikes Peak Radium embroidery continues on the headrest stitching, contrast binding on the overmats, with Pikes Peak treadplates and exclusive B&O speaker covers in Black Anodised and Radium finish. The superlative cabin includes the Continental GT’s innovative Bentley Rotating Display.

The Pikes Peak Continental GT by Mulliner is equipped with the same, advanced 12-cylinder petrol engine as the car that broke the record last year. The twin-turbocharged Bentley W12 develops 626 bhp and 900 Nm of torque, accelerating the Continental GT from 1-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds) with a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph).

  • Most powerful Golf R to date opens for order alongside agile new Golf GTI Clubsport

    2021 Volkswgen Golf R1

With three performance Golfs already on sale in the form of the GTI, GTD and GTE, the arrival of these two flagship models gives fans of performance Golfs more choice than ever before. Both newcomers offer greater levels of focus and driver involvement. In addition, each model features a raft of equipment and driver assistance systems, including IQ.Light matrix LED headlights, keyless entry, Lane Assist and Travel Assist, which facilitates Level 2 assisted driving up to speeds of 130 mph (where legal). Car2X is also fitted, as per the rest of the Golf range, allowing communication between Car2X-equipped cars and infrastructure, to warn road users of hazards ahead.

    The new Golf GTI Clubsport

The first of these new cars is the Golf GTI Clubsport. This model builds upon the already award-winning formula offered by the 245 PS/370 Nm Golf GTI, but dials the power output of its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine up to 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque for a 0-62 mph time of just 5.6 seconds. This makes it the fastest-accelerating production Golf GTI in history. Special features for the new car include a driving mode developed especially for the demands of the Nürburgring, a large two-part rear spoiler resulting in a reduction in lift over the rear axle, and an exclusive front bumper, offering not only augmented styling, but incorporating a new front splitter for greater downforce on the front axle. The rear of the Clubsport is also distinguishable from the GTI, with oval tailpipes, rather than the GTI’s circular pipes, which sit further apart either side of an enhanced diffuser.

In addition to exterior and performance upgrades, the Golf GTI Clubsport also benefits from the standard fitment of Clubsport-specific ArtVelours seats alongside the acclaimed Digital Cockpit Pro and Discover Media navigation system, offering greater convenience and style. The Golf GTI Clubsport starts at £37,215 RRP OTR.

The Vehicle Dynamics Manager system works in combination with all the electronically controlled running gear including the electromechanical front-axle locking differential and XDS electronic differential lock to eliminate the understeer often associated with front-wheel drive cars. This focus is complemented by a larger braking system, and can be further optimised with the addition of the optional Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive damper system.

    The new Golf R

Meanwhile, the Golf R returns as the Golf’s outright flagship in terms of performance and positioning, now with 320 PS and 420 Nm on tap from its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, equating to a top speed of 155 mph (increasing to 168 mph with the optional R-Performance Pack), where permitted. The 0 to 62 mph sprint is dispatched in just 4.7 seconds – making it the fastest-accelerating Volkswagen on sale.

The powerful and advanced EA888 evo4 engine is installed with a 7-speed DSG transmission, and, like all vehicles from Volkswagen R, 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The system has been comprehensively uprated for the latest generation of Golf R, with the introduction of R-Performance Torque Vectoring that distributes the engine output to all four wheels. The new differential on the rear axle distributes the drive power not just between the front and rear axles, but also variably between the two rear wheels. Up to 100% of torque can be directed to the wheel on the outside of a bend if necessary. This, working in conjunction with the all-new Vehicle Dynamics Manager and XDS electromechanical differential locks, allows a higher level of agility and a reduction in understeer, which in turn contributes to even greater driver involvement and dynamics.

An optional R-Performance Package is available on the Golf R for £2,000. It brings upgraded 19-inch ‘Estoril’ alloy wheels, a performance rear spoiler for added downforce, and an increased top speed of 168 mph (where permitted). The pack also adds two new driver modes; Drift and Special. Drift mode is entirely focused upon driver enjoyment away from public highways. This mode uses the full potential of the new R-Performance Torque Vectoring and enables the driver to drift the new Golf R on private tracks. The pack also introduces a Special mode that provides the car with the perfect setup to tackle the famously challenging Nürburgring. This is an extension of the standard Race driving mode, in which the engine sound is increased, while the DSG, optional DCC, progressive steering and the all-wheel drive system are adjusted to a sportier setup.

The Golf R is priced from £39,270 RRP OTR, and sits atop the new Golf range. It is identifiable by its attractive 18-inch ‘Jerez’ alloy wheels, full R body kit, roof spoiler and quad exhaust pipes – a feature that subtly hints at the model’s potency compared with other Golf models. A bespoke, heated R steering wheel features, with a new R button which allows the driver direct access to the car’s newly enhanced range of drive modes without needing to take their hands away from the wheel. Extended paddle shifters also add to the driver-focused convenience of the model’s cockpit. Sports seats with integrated head restraints feature a ‘Sardegna’ design in black-blue cloth, unique to the new R models, while the outer areas are in ArtVelours. The model’s brake callipers are finished in the hallmark shade of Volkswagen R blue, and feature the R division’s logo, while the car’s door mirrors are finished in a matt chrome effect – another identifier of the powerful and enthusiast-focused Golf R.

Several accessories are available for the Golf R including an Akrapovič titanium exhaust, panoramic sunroof, Harmon/Kardon sound system and a head up display.

Sarah Cox, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen UK, said: “Christmas has come early for fast Volkswagen fans, with not just one performance hero opening to UK customers today, but two.

“The Golf GTI Clubsport takes the iconic GTI with its winning formula and turns the dial up for even more driver involvement and focus, while the Golf R maintains its all-round appeal, with a fantastic new version of our 4MOTION system providing even more fun behind the wheel.
