  • Cadillac LYRIQ

    2023-Cadillac-LYRIQ

Cadillac’s introduction of its electric portfolio begins today with the debut of the LYRIQ show car — a dynamic, modern, and fully electric luxury crossover.

The propulsion system and supporting technologies position Cadillac to be a leader in electrification, connectivity, and automated driving, all delivered with thrilling performance and a new threshold in technology integration.

“Led by LYRIQ, Cadillac will redefine American luxury over the next decade with a new portfolio of transformative EVs,” said Steve Carlisle, executive vice president and president, GM North America. “We will deliver experiences that engage the senses, anticipate desires, and enable our customers to go on extraordinary journeys.”

The LYRIQ is based on GM’s next-generation, modular electric vehicle platform and driven by the Ultium propulsion system, allowing Cadillac to deliver customers a variety of range and performance options. With range being one of the biggest factors when it comes to selecting an EV, we’re designing LYRIQ to offer beyond 300 miles of range on a full charge, based on internal testing1. Performance and technology highlights include:

    • Charging options that fit a variety of preferences for home, the workplace, and on the road — including DC fast charging rates over 150 kilowatts and Level 2 charging rates up to 19 kW2.
    • Rear-wheel drive and performance all-wheel-drive configurations.
    • The latest version of Super Cruise3, the industry’s first truly hands-free driver assistance feature, available on more than 200,000 miles of compatible highways and recently enhanced to include automated lane change.
    • New technologies such as dual-plane augmented reality-enhanced head-up display and remote self-parking.
    • The brand’s most seamless and adaptive technology interaction with the driver and passengers, including the latest Cadillac user experience, which is showcased in a 33-inch-diagonal advanced LED screen the spans the entire viewing area of the driver.

“LYRIQ was conceived to make every journey exhilarating and leverages more than a century of innovation to drive the brand into a new era, while rewarding passengers with a more personal, connected and immersive experience,” said Jamie Brewer, Cadillac LYRIQ chief engineer. “To do this we developed an architecture specifically for EVs.  It is not only an exceptional EV but first and foremost a Cadillac.”

    LIBERATING PERFORMANCE
Some luxury EVs today feature adapted traditional internal combustion engine architecture, that is not the case with LYRIQ. Cadillac’s all-new, modular EV platform on which the LYRIQ is based is the foundation for its liberating performance. With a dedicated EV architecture, its design eliminates significant physical constraints associated with adapting electric propulsion within a conventional vehicle architecture, for an optimized design that supports greater driving range, engaging driving experience, and a new interpretation of passenger space.

Within the LYRIQ, the Ultium battery system is a structural element of the architecture, integrated in ways that contribute to ride and handling, as well as safety. In fact, the lower center of gravity and near 50/50 weight distribution enabled by the placement of the battery pack results in a vehicle that’s sporty, responsive, and allows for spirited driving.

Additionally, the LYRIQ is driven primarily by the rear wheels, with a performance all-wheel-drive option available. The placement of the drive motor at the rear of the vehicle contributes an even greater feeling of balance and agility — attributes that affirm Cadillac’s longstanding commitment to satisfying performance. It also enables the system to channel more torque to the pavement without wheelspin for exhilarating acceleration and greater cornering capability. Vehicles equipped with performance all-wheel drive go a step further, with a second drive unit placed at the front of the vehicle, which allows for a significant amount of tuning flexibility, enhancing vehicle dynamics and performance for drivers.

    2023-Cadillac-LYRIQ1

    ALL-NEW ULTIUM BATTERY SYSTEM
The Cadillac LYRIQ is powered by GM’s new Ultium battery system, which offers approximately 100 kilowatt-hours of energy to deliver stirring performance.

Ultium’s state-of-the-art NCMA (nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum) chemistry uses aluminum in the cathode to help reduce the need for rare-earth materials such as cobalt. In fact, GM engineers reduced the cobalt content by more than 70 percent, compared to current GM batteries.

The advanced battery chemistry is packed in large, flat pouch cells that enable smart module construction to reduce complexity and simplify cooling needs. Additionally, the battery electronics are incorporated directly into the modules, eliminating nearly 90 percent of the battery pack wiring, compared to GM’s current electric vehicles.

When it comes to charging, LYRIQ offers quick and convenient charging options whether at home or on the go. With DC fast charging, the LYRIQ can charge at rates over 150 kW.

    ARTFULLY INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY
Envisioned to make interaction with its technologies more intuitive and rewarding, the LYRIQ’s partnership with the driver and passengers is simultaneously energizing and artful.

Upon approach, the LYRIQ recognizes the driver and initiates a “greeting” with a choreographed lighting sequence, while also preparing the cabin for the journey, including seat, mirror, and climate system adjustments. Once inside, the LYRIQ offers Cadillac’s highest level of driver information, infotainment and connectivity integration, for a more seamless and rewarding experience.

A 33-inch-diagonal advanced LED display artfully integrates a single, large screen that spans the viewing area for the driver and incorporates driver information details, infotainment controls, and camera views. This new display has the highest pixel density available in the automotive industry today and can display over one billion colors, 64 times more than any other vehicle in the automotive industry, providing a stunning in-vehicle experience unlike anything seen before from Cadillac.

Additional technology and interactive highlights include:

    • Battery and charging monitoring conveyed by easy, at-a-glance graphics. The system identifies the vehicle’s energy needs at home and on the go, according to owner preferences, while also monitoring and forecasting energy consumption and providing charging suggestions.
    • A new dual-plane augmented reality-enhanced head-up display employs two planes: a near plane indicating speed, direction, and more, and a far plane displaying transparent navigation signals and other important alerts.
    • The latest version of Super Cruise, the hands-free driver assistance feature, including automated lane change.3
    • Supervised remote parking that uses ultrasonic sensors to help the LYRIQ park itself in parallel or perpendicular parking spaces — whether the driver is inside or outside of the vehicle.4

    2023-Cadillac-LYRIQ2

    SENSE OF SOUND
LYRIQ’s technology also addresses sound in two important ways: Blocking unwanted sounds and making the most of the sounds passengers want to hear.

For the first time, Cadillac will introduce a new road noise cancellation technology, which takes active noise cancellation to the next level by introducing more microphones and accelerometers, which improve noise cancellation abilities. With this new system, Cadillac’s performance and audio engineers can target the frequency range of tire cavity noise, reducing the noise level in the vehicle and allowing for a quieter in-cabin experience.

The Cadillac LYRIQ builds on the brand’s exclusive partnership with AKG. “With LYRIQ we wanted to deliver a sound experience that would transport the driver from a vehicle into a recording studio,” said Hussein Khalil, Cadillac lead audio design release engineer. “With the AKG sound system, we are able to deliver this experience along with the quality and reliability of luxury customers expect.”

At launch, LYRIQ will offer a 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system that delivers exceptionally crisp and precise sound reproduction, enabling drivers and passengers to enjoy their favorite music.

    NEW FACE OF CADILLAC
Cadillac’s first electric SUV makes a bold design statement that introduces a new face, proportion, and presence for the brand’s new generation of EVs. It’s a forward-looking vision unconstrained by the needs of a traditional internal combustion engine and driveline.

“The LYRIQ represents the next iteration of the iconic brand’s styling, enabled by electrification, as only Cadillac can express,” said Andrew Smith, executive director, Global Cadillac Design. “Inside and out, LYRIQ is a thoughtful integration of design and technology and is intended to make every drive an occasion.”

Defined by taut lines and clean surfaces, LYRIQ is assertive and modern, characterized with a low, fast roofline and wide stance that emphasize agility and convey confidence. Additional details such as a flow-through roof spoiler express the careful attention paid to aerodynamics to optimize efficiency on the highway.

A distinctive “black crystal” grille in the front is one of the LYRIQ’s most unique and expressive design elements. It is also a dynamic feature, as it is part of a dramatic lighting choreography that — along with bold vertical, slim LED signature lighting — greets the owner upon approach. At the rear, a split taillamp design incorporates slim LEDs that are also integrated into the lighting choreography.

Inside, the LYRIQ’s new electric vehicle architecture opens up possibilities in vehicle spaciousness and design; and Cadillac designers used this as an opportunity to rethink how to use the space and where to locate various interior elements.

The result is a more airy, minimalistic design that does more to involve the driver and passengers in the driving experience while offering exceptional functionality when it comes to storage solutions. It is also brimming with subtle yet obsessive details such as backlit speaker grilles, curved screens with hidden storage, and, like the exterior, orchestrated lighting features.

  • Kia Stonic Mild Hybrid

    2021-Kia-Stonic-Mild-Hybrid
Kia Motors has introduced significant upgrades to the Kia Stonic compact SUV, strengthening the car’s position in the European B-SUV segment.

The upgraded Stonic offers drivers a range of efficient new ‘Smartstream’ powertrains, with innovations that enhance efficiency. Among these, the Stonic is now available with Kia’s new petrol 48V mild-hybrid ‘EcoDynamics+’ powertrain, and is also equipped with the company’s new ‘clutch-by-wire’ intelligent Manual Transmission.

The interior and exterior design of the Stonic remains largely unchanged, however, owners have an even greater scope of color options than before, with new body and roof colors and combinations, and a new wheel choice. Inside, larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system can be specified with Kia’s new ‘Phase II’ UVO Connect telematics features. Safety and driver support are further enhanced with the adoption of a range of new high-tech advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Introduced to the European market at the end of 2017, the Stonic has since become Kia’s fourth best-selling model annually in the region (following the Ceed model family, Sportage, and Picanto). Total European sales to-date come to more than 150,000 units.*

The upgraded Kia Stonic goes on sale in Europe during the third quarter of 2020, with Kia’s industry-leading 7-Year, 100,000-mile warranty included as standard on all models.

The UK on-sale date, pricing, and specification will be announced nearer to the on-sale date in Q4 2020.

New EcoDynamics+ petrol mild-hybrid with new intelligent Manual Transmission
The upgraded Kia Stonic will offer the brand’s new petrol mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) ‘EcoDynamics+’ powertrain. Pairing a new ‘Smartstream’ 1.0-litre T-GDi (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct injection) engine with a 48V MHEV system, the EcoDynamics+ powertrain delivers greater efficiency by seamlessly deploying and recuperating electric power. A compact 48-volt lithium-ion polymer battery supplements the engine’s torque output with electric power, and extends engine ‘off time’ with a new Mild-Hybrid Starter-Generator (MHSG) unit.

The MHSG is connected by belt to the engine’s crankshaft and switches seamlessly between ‘motor’ and ‘generator’ modes. In ‘motor’ mode, under acceleration, the MHSG provides electric power assistance to reduce engine load and emissions. As the car decelerates, the MHSG has the ability under certain conditions to switch to ‘generator’ mode, recuperating energy from the crankshaft to recharge the battery.

The new Smartstream engine replaces the Stonic’s earlier ‘Kappa’-generation 1.0-litre T-GDi and is equipped with Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology. CVVD enables the engine to switch seamlessly between different combustion cycles depending on load, maximizing efficiency in all driving situations. The Smartstream engine produces the same power as the previous Kappa engine – 100 ps or 120 ps – but enables slightly higher peak torque output, depending on transmission. For instance, peak torque output from 120 ps models with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) is 16 percent higher, at 200 Nm.

The new EcoDynamics+ powertrain is offered on both 100 ps and 120 ps versions of the new engine, with a Drive Mode Select system letting drivers of each version customize their drive with ‘Eco’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Normal’ modes.

EcoDynamics+ models are also available with Kia’s new intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). The ‘clutch-by-wire’ system contributes to the MHEV system’s greater fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions while retaining the driver engagement of a conventional manual transmission. Instead of a mechanical linkage, the iMT’s clutch is actuated electronically. It integrates seamlessly with the MHSG to switch off the engine earlier than Kia’s Idle Stop & Go start-stop system when coasting to a halt.

Both transmissions, iMT and 7DCT, enable periods of engine-off ‘sailing’ to improve fuel efficiency. This operates at speeds of up to 77 mph (125 km/h), and the engine reactivates when the driver pushes the accelerator, brake or clutch pedals.

    New Smartstream petrol powertrains
The upgraded Kia Stonic also features major revisions to its existing range of petrol engine options, maximizing efficiency, lowering CO2 emissions, and improving driveability. As well as EcoDynamics+ models, the line-up is now offered in Europe with a choice of non-hybrid Smartstream petrol engines – the new 100 ps 1.0-litre T-GDi engine, and a new version of Kia’s naturally aspirated 1.2-liter engine, with innovative Dual Port Injection technology and a power output of 84 ps.

The 100 ps 1.0-litre T-GDi engine is now offered with a choice of a six-speed manual transmission, replacing the earlier five-speed manual, and a seven-speed DCT.

Official performance and efficiency figures for every new Stonic powertrain – including EcoDynamics+ models – will be announced nearer to the car’s on-sale date.

Upgraded infotainment with innovative UVO Connect ‘Phase II’ telematics
The Stonic features an upgraded touchscreen navigation system offering Kia’s innovative ‘Phase II’ UVO Connect telematics system, enhancing vehicle connectivity and control.

A larger 8.0-inch touchscreen display is offered as standard, with Display Audio or Satellite Navigation depending on vehicle specification. The new system features Bluetooth multi-connection, enabling users to connect up to two mobile devices at the same time – one for hands-free phone and media use; the other for media use only. The system offers wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ on models equipped with the new 8.0-inch Display Audio system, negating the need for many owners to connect their smartphones via a cable.

The upgraded Stonic offers Kia’s new ‘Phase II’ UVO Connect telematics features, with a range of On-Board Services including live traffic information, weather forecasts, points of interest (POIs), fuel prices, and details of potential on- and off-street parking – including price, location, and availability. Online Voice Recognition lets users search for POIs, addresses, weather updates, or send text messages with voice commands. A new ‘Online Navigation’ routing service uses cloud-based real-time and historical traffic data to predict time-efficient routes more accurately than ever before.

The UVO App, compatible with Android™ and Apple™ smartphones, also offers a range of new ‘Phase II’ features, including Last Mile Navigation. This helps customers continue navigating to their journey’s final destination, even after they have parked and left the car behind. It helps Kia customers navigate in towns and cities where parking hubs are often some distance away from shops, cafés, and restaurants.

A new ‘User Profile Transfer’ feature enables users to back-up their in-vehicle UVO preferences via the cloud and transfer settings from one vehicle to the next. This is designed for customers who often switch between different UVO Connect-equipped Kia cars, such as fleet drivers who use pool cars or families with more than one UVO Connect-equipped Kia in their household.

New color and wheel options for added customization potential
Inside and out, the design of the upgraded Stonic remains largely unchanged, with the latest model boasting newly designed full-LED headlamps with a striking new design. With the car’s compact crossover styling still looking fresh since its launch, Kia is instead giving customers new ways to customize their Stonic.

On the outside, a new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheel choice is available, as well as two new exterior paint colors – Storm Grey and Azure Blue. The color palette offers customers a choice of up to nine paint finishes. In addition, the new body and roof colors on offer creates the opportunity for a wider choice of color contrast paint colors. With the roof now available in a Zest Yellow paint finish, the total number of two-tone color options has risen to 20, depending on market and vehicle specification. The two-tone roof is popular with Stonic customers, with 33 percent of all European customers specifying this stand-out option.

Inside, in addition to the new larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, the driver is also rewarded with a new higher-resolution 4.2-inch digital display in the instrument cluster. New interior customization options are also available for the cabin, with new blue and yellow color packs bringing the total choice to four, depending on vehicle specification and market. These add a dash of color and flair to the cabin, with bright color highlights on the dashboard and center console.

    New ADAS safety technologies available
The upgraded Stonic features several of Kia’s latest Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), depending on specification. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with the pedestrian, vehicle and newly introduced cyclist recognition, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), and Lane Following Assist (LFA).

LFA in collaboration with SCC controls acceleration, braking, and steering depending on the vehicles in front and road conditions. Operating at speeds below 180 kph, it uses camera and radar sensors to maintain a safe distance from the car in front, while monitoring road markings to keep the Stonic in the center of its lane. Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and front and rear parking sensors are available, as well as a new Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system, which alerts the driver if they inadvertently leave a passenger or pet in the car.

The upgraded model is fitted with six airbags throughout the cabin, as well as ISOFIX child-seat tether and anchor points.

The new Stonic in the UK
Each market in Europe will specify their Stonic line-up according to national market requirements and consumer preferences. The new Stonic will come to the UK in Q4 of 2020, UK specification, line-up, pricing, engine options, and color choices will be announced at this time.

  • AMG reveals new E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet family members! Check ’em out!

2021 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Mercedes-AMG continues to expand its distinctive range. Now, the team reveals new E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet models. Both of these feature the iconic AMG radiator grille, A-shaped design, and new, flatter all-LED headlamps. Furthermore, the vehicle features an entirely revised interior and showcases large displays, AMG Performance steering wheel, and a revolutionary MBUX infotainment system with AMG-specific functions.

    Exterior design

The front-end design is completely revised and now resembles the AMG DNA more strongly. As mentioned, the key feature here is the AMG-specific radiator grille, which both new vehicles receive. Additionally, the A-shaped design of the front is now broader towards the bottom and somehow flatter, makes an extremely strong impression when accompanied by the all-LED headlamps.

At the rear, key features are the round twin tailpipe trim elements, which are available in silver chrome or high-gloss black finish. These pipes are neatly integrated into the revised rear bumper. Also, there’s a set of new wheel arches which improve the overall aerodynamic features of the vehicles: the result is improved airflow around the wheel arches. Neat! Also, the spoiler lip on the trunk lid is painted to match the vehicle color, but can optionally be replaced with a carbon-fiber one.

As for the sides, there’s a set of standard 19-inch light-alloy wheels in an aerodynamically optimized 5-twin-spoke design. As an option, customers can specify their AMG E 53 with larger 20-inch alloys in a 5-twin-spoke design.

    Interior design

    2021 Mercedes-AMG E 53

The cabin welcomes everyone to a place with luxurious materials and advanced technologies. The standard seats upholstered in MB-Tex with DINAMICA microfiber in an exclusive AMG design and with red contrasting stitching and AMG badges are a new notable characteristic for the new models, and blend sporty design with strong lateral support and comfort for long journeys.

With a futuristic design and seamlessly integrated buttons, the new AMG Performance steering wheel is specially designed to create an even closer connection between driver and machine. The wheel can be specified in leather, in DICAMICA microfiber or in a blend between the two. Also, the steering wheel also features a new sensor mat, which recognizes the “hands-on” feel on the wheel. This new technology is especially incorporated in order to prompt drivers to hold their hands on the wheel. If they manage to do something else, a warning beep sequence is started, which, if continues for a certain period of time, autonomously activates the Emergency Brake Assist system.

    Drivetrain system

    2021 Mercedes-AMG E 53

As expected, new AMG E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet machines are geared with the most advanced and refined engineering systems that both Mercedes-Benz and AMG can deliver. The choice for the new family members is an AMG-revised 3.0-liter inline-6 power unit with an electric auxiliary compressor. This setup allows for both vehicles to generate a total of 429hp and a peak torque of 384lb-ft. The setup also features an EQ Boost starter-generator, which provides an additional 21hp and 184lb-ft of torque, while also feeding the 48V onboard electrical system. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed is the gearbox choice for these particular models. This transmission can be operated by hand, via the galvanized shift paddles.

In terms of brakes, engineers have included a dedicated AMG brake system, which is further fine-tuned for enhanced sporty performance. The front axle features cross-drilled and internally vented discs, sized 14.6×1.4 in, with four-piston fixed calipers and AMG lettering, while the rear axle features internally vented discs sized 14.2 x 1.0 in with single-piston floating calipers.

As it comes to the suspension system, AMG engineers have managed to achieve enhanced agility, neutral cornering performance, and greater traction by incorporating the AMG RIDE CONTROL PLUS air suspension by Affalterbach. This multi-chamber suspension comes with adjustable damping Adaptive Damping System and blends outstanding driving dynamics and high levels of comfort.

Additionally, the standard equipment blends the optimized traction for dynamic driving with a high level of safety in a variety of conditions: dry surface, wet and slippery roads, and numerous more.

  • Acura shares further details for new TLX prior to unveiling date

2020 Acura TLX 2021 Acura TLX, which will be digitally revealed on Thursday, May, 28, is based on a new Acura-exclusive sports sedan platform. The new TLX features a dedicated architecture especially molded by the Type S vehicles. Such a system includes a highly rigid body and performance-focused chassis highlighted by the return of double-wishbone front suspension.

This new TLX suspension system is comprised of two wishbone-shaped control arms, in place of the more common Macpherson strut setup in numerous competing sports sedans, which delivers more precise control of wheel camber, caster and toe angles, and also maximizes tire-to-ground contact, which ensures exceptional handling precision and cornering stability. Because of its inherent performance-enhancing attributes, double-wishbone suspension underpins the second-gen NSX supercar and was a staple of Acura performance products of the past, including Legend (1986-1995), Integra (1990-2001), TL and TL Type S (1996-2014), and first-generation NSX (1991-2005).

  • Classic Recreations’ team reveals world’s first carbon-fiber bodied Shelby machine

2020 Classic Recreations FordClassic Recreations, the Oklahoma-based builder of licensed Ford and Shelby American continuation vehicles and restorations has enlisted SpeedKore Performance Group, the Winsconsin-based carbon-fiber manufacturer, to produce carbon-fiber bodies for its Shelby GT500CR models. The first of its kind, the plan is part of an initiative by Classic Recreations in order to create the next generation of contemporary high-performance vehicles with iconic classic American Styling, followed by a Shelby-licensed all-carbon fiber-bodied Cobra.

Classic Recreations’ stock Shelby GT500CR has been launched back in 1967 and has undergone a comprehensive restoration that took hundreds of man-hours of labor. The carbon-fiber GT500CR also begins with a restored donor steel tub, which is then fitted with all-new carbon-fiber body panels. Starting with a 3D model, a five-axis CNC machine cuts the molds, and then plugs and panels are pulled using aerospace-grade prepreg carbon-fiber. The molded carbon-fiber body panels are then cured using a massive in-house autoclave. The result is the world’s first officially-licensed Shelby Mustang vehicle that is lighter and sturdier than its all-steel siblings.

Under the hood, the revised GT500CR can be specified with numerous engine options, ranging from a 490hp Ford Performance Gen 3.5-liter Coyote crate that generates up to a 900hp hand-made 427-cubic-inch power unit with an intercooler ProCharger supercharger. All power units are mated to a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox and a stainless MagnaFlow performance exhaust.

  • British drivers love to give names to their vehicles – check the names out!

2020 SKODA LineupA peculiar survey in the UK reveals that drivers give names to their vehicles. Something more, some Brits admit that they name their beloved car after a family member or a loved one, according to new research conducted by SKODA.

The research took participation about 2,000 drivers of which 32 percent revealed that they had named at least one of their vehicles, and a quarter of those 2,000 admitted to naming at least three or more vehicles during their lifetime.

SKODA’s research has also acknowledged the individual relationship that people have with their cars, with over 450 unique names given by drivers. Some of the more common include Betty, Freddie, Daisy and Rosie, Harrison Ford, and Elvis. However, there are also vehicles by the name of Bubbles, Beast, The Brussel Spout, Zorro, and even Ketchup.

As it seems, the majority of Brits who name their vehicles have done it solely out of humor. However, there are owners who have given a particular name to their cars because they believe it looks like this particular name, while others give a specific name, because it reminds them of someone else.

Additionally, the findings from SKODA, whose in-car voice assistant is called Laura, also found out that the female drivers were almost twice as likely as making drivers name their vehicles, while men were much more to use a name of a loved one, compared to women.

This fun tendency extends beyond simply naming cars – SKODA’s research also found out that Brits had an incredibly strong affection for their vehicles, with 10 percent of drivers admitting they loved their cars more than their spouse or partner.

  • New Volvo Cars will come with Speed Limit and Care Key technologies

2020 Volvo Cars Safety FeaturesFrom now on every new Volvo model will come with a limited top speed of 112mph (180km/h), as Volvo Cars team delivers its promise to introduce such limitation and goes beyond regulation and legislation in order to help to reduce the injuries and fatalities in traffic incidents.

Along with the speed cap, every Volvo machine will also feature a Care Key, which allows setting additional limitations on vehicle’s top speed, for example before lending their car to other family members and friends, especially young ones.

Blended together, the speed limitation feature and the Care Key send a strong signal about the dangers of speeding, underlining Volvo Cars’ position as a leader in safety. Both systems illustrate how vehicle makers can take active responsibility for striving to achieve zero traffic fatalities by supporting better driver behavior.

Although the top speed limiter has led to some technical controversies, the Volvo team has decided to use it within its vehicles as part of the brand’s dedication towards technical innovation and the goal of reducing fatal incidents to zero.

Furthermore, as it seems, Volvo engineers have decided that the issues with the speed-limiting technologies are no longer enough severe in order not to be included in a standard list of features within a contemporary vehicle.
